I was wondering if you would share your favorite background moment from the movie that you think I should watch for, and any head canon you associate with it? Just if you feel like it, no pressure!

And ügh I don't even know where to begin; Cats in general lives off its background moments, especially since almost all of the cats are efficiently ensemble characters! I will try and list some, anyway. :)

Firstly: basically all of Pekes and Pollicles. Here a few hand-picked screenshots:

(Plato confidently walking into the wrong direction and needing uh.. re-directing through Alonzo)

(Mungojerrie and Coricopat are so very good dogs. Pouncival has acquired a rifle, apparently)

(This isn't even a background moment, but I LOVE how all the cats have their "default stance". Skimbleshanks with his orderly folded paws, Mistoffelees with his performative tendu, Cassandra with her aloof cross-legged position, Munkustrap with his legs 509403 meters apart... we love to see it)

Also, always keep your eyes on Pouncival in the background, because the editing of the 98 movie is.. questionable at many parts, which causes him to teleport around quite a lot XD

Also worth staring at a look: the Bombademestrap action on the tire during Mr. Mistoffelees.

Demeter is surrounded by love and so, so happy ;U; ♥♥♥ Bombalurina is trying to set up a world record in smiling and she's succeeding. Munkustrap is trying very hard to catch the sparkles.

All of the Mr. Mistoffelees background action is extremely fun to look at, tbh.

🎤 singing mistoffelees or quiet mistoffelees? quiet mistoffelees!!! my favorite replica production of cats is zurich 1991 where lindsay chambers plays a COMPLETELY mute misto and so he puts more emphasis on body movement and facial expressions - and since misto is primarily a dancer and only a singer depending on the production i think that's a great way to portray him. also, it can paint him as more of an outcast in the tribe which idk. i just kinda think is neat!!!! zurich my beloved. quiet/mute misto my beloved.

however fellas i wont lie. tim scott's misto singing mungojerrie & rumpleteazer will always be a highlight of the original broadway cast for meeeeee

🎦 act one or act two? ok this is literally so hard. but the jellicle ball AND the rum tum tugger AND mungojerrie & rumpleteazer are in the first act and honestly when watching 98 my stopping point is macavity.. so act 1!!!!!! but ugh its so hard to choose :-(

😻 song cats or ensemble cats? ALL about that ensemble babyyyy... alonzo and cassandra and etcetera my beloveds!! all my favorite cats are ensemble so this wasnt really hard to choose XD they're the ones with the fun shenanigans going on in the background during the songs too

im a huge cats the musical and ds9 fan please tell me everything about the AU

hehehe thank u for enabling me I will do so ! (pls bear in mind that in building this around elecetera I have largely disregarded the canon relationships in ds9 simply because I think it is more fun that way and also I LOVE to talk so this is so god damn long)

this started with the thought that electra and etcetera doing the nojay consortium plot would be unbearably cute, so of course Etcetera is cast as Nog (excitable accidental mischief maker who grows into a brave little champ and joins starfleet!) and Electra is cast as Jake (still silly but much more levelheaded/quieter than her counterpart, a worrier, and grows into a writer! a little reference to my own hc of electra as a library cat).

"why would pollicles steal your homework?" "[head tilt] because they don't have ethics?" PRECIOUS

so then building out from there you get Bombalurina as Benjamin (which I think is REALLY cool also visually I think she suits that part and I think it's such a cool thought to cast her as captain and emissary over anyone else. I love her I'm gay). and then obviously you need Demeter as Kasidy (the obvious choice for dem would be kira but I think this is much more fun for her. hot and in charge cargo ship captain! (and of course this makes her Bomba's gf :3 and Jemima their as-yet-unborn baby who I'm not technically meant to know about cause I haven't finished ds9 yet but hey) aslo. just really super hot. I'm gay. got stuck thinking about int tour dem in kasidy's boiler suit lookin outfits and ceased functioning.). as I mentioned I also cast Munkustrap as Jennifer just cause u know. makes sense. and obvs Deuteronomy as Joseph Sisko! (honestly my favourite characterisation of deut always has that little flavour of grandpa sisko I love him)

then on Etcetera!Nog's side of this family tree we have Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer taking over hybridised roles of Quark and Rom! (neither of them are her parents they're her older siblings/cousins/idk but she's theirs to raise. I've kind of been mixing and matching what narrative roles each of them take so it's sort of a. they run the bar together, jerrie is the one to become an engineer, teazer is the one to date the Leeta, they take bits and pieces of each of the ferengis plots u kno). speaking of, Victoria is cast as Leeta (because victeazer 4eva but also beautiful but kind and deceptively intelligent is literally her. also that shot of cet and vic hugging from 98 but it's rom/leeta stepmom moment Yes). also I love Ishka and originally I cast Jenny as her because YES but now that role goes to Skimbleshanks just for the utter nonsense! (I know moogie's plot is mostly about stuff that can't be reflected to skimble but I'm again thinking more of the relationship to etcetera here and I think this gives the best dynamic! also teazer as the mommas boy and jerrie with the rough relationship Yeah)

this is getting ridiculously long so I'll try to be more brief with the rest! Tugger as Kira (bomba's right hand man!), Mistoffelees as Jadzia (bestie!), Cassandra as Julian (Electra and Cass's roadtrips to disaster!), Asparagus as Worf (look at me and tell me that humour/grumpiness isn't familiar), Alonzo as Odo (elecetera hijinks to cause him to sigh grumpily as Much as possible), Jennyanydots as Miles O'Brien (this one feels kind of out of left field but 1. I love her as cettie's mentor and 2. I would LOVE to see her in the kind of irritated distress obrien lives in. I adore her let me put her in the torture machine just a little), and of couuuuurse Jellylorum as Keiko! (mentor to electra! deeply sweet and caring but also strict and kind and oooooh!), which means Tumble and Pouncival fall into Molly and Kirayoshi's places (makes them even littler than elecetera as revenge for [thing productions do that irritates me that I won't get into here cause we're having fun]), Tantomile and Coricopat as Morn (but instead of silence to the viewers and annoying chatter offscreen it's eerie staring to the viewers and referenced ominious statements they make offscreen. this is deeply funny to me), then Macavity as Dukat obviously (boos and hisses), Grizabella as Lwaxana (beloved), finally Plato as Alexander (my favourite star trek character the ds9 writers Don't understand him like I understand him but this makes so much sense), and Bustopher as the klingon chef!!!!!

So, was just re reading your fic and like, making some theories and stuff, and I was wondering (since the king, so far, is anonymous) is the king Lonnie? Because of the description of the wine/alcohol calming his anger, and your recent response to an anon about the king maybe being the main villain-ish character as the town doesn’t really like him, and was wondering if it was Lonnie OR it’s a big reveal later within the story.

AHHHHHH!!!!! my point was to sort of keep the king anonymous for the first part of chapter one so when the reader finds out that will is actually a prince, the king is revealed!! so yeah, lonnie is the king in this, and he is CERTAINLY a villain.

good eye !!! i was trying to drop subtle hints that parallel the so little personality traits/characteristics we get about him in the show. as king, lonnie (called alonzo), is rather absent. he prefers to spend his time hunting and drinking his life away while his hand, lord theodore, does all of the actual kingly work. don’t get me wrong, lonnie is still horrible, ted is just the one causing most of the political issues while lonnie overall is disliked by the general populous of hawks nest.

R = Risk (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.) He's definitely up for experimenting, but he also has some fairly firm boundaries. Alonzo doesn't like being marked or being left with bruises, especially ones he cannot easily hide. He's willing to engage in public sex if he knows there's a next to no chance of him being caught.

When he tops, he's a bit more willing to experiment such as tying his partners up, etc. He likes to see how far he can push his partners until they are a whining mess.

U = Unfair (how much they like to tease) When he tops, Alonzo doesn't really tease much. He's a very serious top and is solely focused on his partner's pleasure and is easily swayed to immediately give his partners what they want, especially when they beg.

However, when he bottoms, he loves being the one teased. He loves being teased about how needy he is. But on the other hand, he also likes to see how fast he can get his teasing partner to crumble and give him what he wants, usually by hotly moaning and begging right into his partner's ear.

like i mentioned in the mistoffelees ramble post alonzo has trouble physically expressing emotions

his tone is flat and he doesnt really make facial expressions so people cant tell if hes being genuine or sarcastic

he tends to over explain himself a lot because of this, esp to older cats bcuz he probably has like a strong moral code to be nice to his elders and not disappoint them

he doesnt tend to over explain to misto and victoria though, cause they get him :3

he also technically doesnt have to overexplain to munku bcuz theyve been friends long enough for munkustrap to understand what hes tryna get across, but its a force of habit and munk doesnt stop him he just listens

theres a obvious change in alonzo’s masking level and general openness when hes with people hes comfortable with, like hes probably a lot more talkative with loved ones

the few times he does show emotions is during stressful or awkward situations and its probably like, not the appropriate reaction either

something bad will happen maybe he breaks his arm and his immediate reaction is to start laughing even though hes in boatloads of agony or something bad happens to someone else and he’ll smile but not cause hes happy ykwim cause hes panicking

hes also pretty ‘immediately forgetful’ where he’ll put something down and not even a moment later he forgets where he put it so he just spends 10 minutes frantically walking around the general area flipping things over to try and figure out where he left it

i definitely think hes got a big aversion to like “screechy” noises, like nails on a chalkboard, spoons scraping on plates, and things skidding across the floor, he also does not like loud noises to me which is unfortunate when your younger brother has lightning powers.
