for real! (from kadji amin)
[Image description: Screenshot of text:
What I've realized is that I believe that the matter of gender is practical and relational. It's not about who you are inside, it's more about how you would feel most comfortable in the world. It's not 'Who are you?' but 'How do you want to live?'
Had that been the discourse when I was coming up, I would have breathed a sigh of relief. I don't have to figure out who I am on the inside, I just have to figure out how I want to live.

here’s the thing. the absolute joy and wonder i feel whenever someone tells me they came across ahb! and are now taking an art history course / majoring in art next year / went to their local art museum for the first time in ages is exponential. when yall send me your favorite artworks and tell me about them or tell me you went to x museum to see x painting mentioned in ahb??? it’s just so so wonderful. because never did i think something i wrote out of love for art and love for art history would lead anyone else to research art or talk about it or seek it out for themselves and that’s so much more than i could ever imagine would come out of a very timid first attempt at creative writing/fandom involvement.
i wrote it out of love and y’all have all reciprocated that love tenfold and ran with it to talk about art and explore it and share it with me and those around you. and it’s just been a very special incredible thing that makes me emosh. :,)

Hey i hope it's okay to ask this, but it's a genuine question of mine, I'm Not trying to ask you to distance yourself from hamas or anything!! I just find it really Hard to grasp whether hamas is Bad for Palestine or not. For me, I think violent resistance is necessary in times of colonisation and opresión, which is why I usually dont really like this conversación, as it mostly turns into "what Israel is doing is Bad, but hamas is just as Bad" and thats just completely ignorant to whats been happening. From friends involved in the pro Palestine movement I Heard that hamas' ideology is kinda questionable, but ultímately Israel killed all other resistance groups and what hamas did was necessary. Another friend now told me that hamas is really Bad and needs to be criticized as well, and that her friends who are involved in the kurdish resistance are even aftaid of them. I know this is a really sensitive topic and im sorry for sending such a long text, but im just wondering if you know more about this. Im just confused whether or not I need to be more critical with hamas, and if so, in what ways?
I understand why you're asking this, and I believe that you asked this question in good faith, but I just think that it's not the right question, nor is it the proper conversation to be having at this point in time. Right now, Palestinians in Gaza are being massacred by: the Israeli government. They have been under siege for 17 years, every aspect of their lives controlled by: the Israeli government. The biggest threat to their livelihood, safety, autonomy is: the Israeli government.
All this is to say that the focus right now, while Palestine is being violently occupied by Israel not just in Gaza but across all of Falasteen, should 100% be on the liberation of the Falasteeni people. Discussing whether Hamas is good or bad or their policies at this point in time, when they are actively fighting for the liberation of the Falasteeni people, is totally unproductive. This isn't to say that everything Hamas does is wonderful and they're beyond reproach--in fact I think that no governmental bodies (and they are the governmental body within Gaza) are beyond reproach and all should be viewed critically. But right now, 100 days into a genocide, over 30,000 people killed (this includes those presumed missing under the rubble), almost half of whom are children, this isn't the conversation that we should be having, and I especially don't think it's something non-Palestinians should be concerning themselves with. I think it derails and detracts attention from the main and imminent threat to Palestinian safety across Falasteen, which is Israeli apartheid.
There was a really well-written post that said something along the lines of: we can worry about the policies of groups like Hamas after Falasteen has been liberated but until then, the focus cannot be on whether or not a group is "good" or "bad" but instead needs to be on Palestinian's right to resistance and self-determination, and I agree with that whole-heartedly. Again, this isn't to say that they are exempt from criticism, but to direct our focus on the fight for Falasteeni liberation. I'm not sure who wrote the post I was referring to, but if you (or anyone reading this) can send it my way I would really appreciate you sharing it!

it was watching this for the first time that mcr tipped over from "awesome band i really fucking dig" to an all-time hyperfixation for me. ray's enthusiasm, the way they wordlessly jump into exactly the part ray's thinking about, the way those parts work together and sound so fucking wonderfully insane...like these are two very talented guys but they could only get as good as they are through dedication to their instrument of choice and their band could only sound as good as it does because of their dedication to working with each other and that's what it's all about baby

hey it's nanowrimo. i have tips bc i've done it about 34 times.
Don't edit. Ever. Stop it. If you just decide to start a new project half thru this one with all new characters, no problem. pick up and keep writing as if you'd already written the first half of that.
"but i spelled it wrong" whatever. "but the grammar" whatever. make it exist first. no time for sense. think like you're working on a typewriter. no backspace. only forward go.
Don't re-read further than a paragraph or two backwards. "did i mention the gun before?" listen - it doesn't matter. if you need there to be a gun there, the gun is there. put it back in once you finish the book.
"i forgot the specifics of X thing i already wrote" whatever. change it, make a note/comment to figure it out later, and just write what makes sense for the moment. "no raquel it's legit the characters name and origin" idc that character is now reborn as Claudius from Elsewhere. it's fine.
only you see your mistakes. nobody else knows. one of the ways writing and dance overlap - only you know the choreography. nobody else will know if you miss a step, so just keep dancing and pretend you meant to do it like that.
it's an illusion that you need to write linearly - from point A to point B to point C. Nah; that's just timeline propaganda. I've written a LOT of books out of order and just reordered them once i've finished. if you have a scene you'd LOVE to write but can't get there yet because of plot, just fuckin write the scene. I've always found its easier to establish "point F" "point J" and "Point A" and then wiggle my way between those scenes.
write what you WANT to write. 230 pages of smut? of well-researched discussion on bread? whatever. the point is to strengthen muscles however you can.
if you miss a day, a week, whatever. not the end of the world. we all have dry days. also time is a myth so u can do this challenge whenever u want.
as soon as you try to write for a specific audience, you kill your voice. you are writing for yourself. stop thinking about how people will take ur book. it don't matter. what matter is u, enjoying writing. i luv u.
play to your strengths. i have characters talk so much because i don't know how to write a plot if it kills me but i'm really good at dialogue so.
i love a flight of fancy. write a poem in there. shift tactics and write in code. keep it fun for yourself.
see what happens if you shift something major about ur main characters - gender, wealth, superpowers. or if you change point-of-view. or if you kill everyone in a big explosion. do NOT edit anything before this or after it. often these little weird one-off exercises teach me what interests me about what i'm working on. it is never what i thought. plus it is a fun way to add like 1k words.
stretch.
it's for fun and for practice. stop doing that project if it's giving you anxiety. once my nano was literally 50k words of half-started stories. just things i tried and tried and tried and wasn't able to flesh out. oops. but i am now 50k words of a better writer.
add dragons?
read books/listen to books on tape/etc. people often make the mistake of "buckling down" to just write. you need inspiration. you need to like. fill up on words. you need to remember how it feels to lose yourself in a story.
i don't have the time or space to really talk about this in this post but a lot of creative people turn to drugs/alcohol because it can help you be more creative. this is harmful, and walking a blade that only cuts deep. if you notice you and your loved ones are turning more to substances, please know i love you and i hope you are able to get help soon. i feel like this almost never gets mentioned because it's kind of a hazy underbelly to art. you are always more important than the work.
on that note. drink your fukin. water.
don't talk about a story until you've finished it. once you tell the story, it exists already, and isn't about discovery. i usually have a very canned "haha we'll see" response.
grapes :) tasty snack.
i love you be free.
