star beast thoughts
Deeply enjoyed it. I've been worried that I only liked original RTD because it was my first Doctor Who, and now that I'm an adult with critical thinking skills, I won't enjoy his stuff half as much. It might just be the return of Ten and Donna, but everything came rushing back.
lots of very funny moments that made me laugh out loud
Not sure how I feel about the opening credits, but I love the theme music
love shirley, p sure she's a recurring character now, very happy for that. Her dynamic with the Doctor was immediately Great.
i like the quiet acknowledgement that sylvia and wilf are fucking Traumatised and have been terrified every time aliens happen for 15 years
Shaun seems very nice! Love the reference to Nerys too, Nerys was great, I love her frenemies thing with Donna.
I gotta apologise for misgendering the Meep for years. Beep the Meep's pronouns are the/Meep, thank u rose.
the scene abt wilf landed Oddly though considering bernard cribbins Is dead now. idk reshooting it might have been difficult but it left a bad taste when they're going "lol he's not dead why would you think that dumbass"
Love Donna's family. Love the scene of Sylvia trying to be Supportive of her trans granddaughter while Struggling bc yeah she's trying but she's not perfect. Love that Sylvia in general is still abrasive but no longer straight up emotionally abusive (which I think was true of The End of Time too, but she's in this one a lot more)
Not sure why they bothered to include Fudge since he didn't do anything?? it felt like fanservice but like…. they aged him down and took out his mum, who was one of the funniest characters in the comic, so what's the point of keeping him?? Would have liked to see him interact with Rose more.
I did like that they went to an effort to make the wrarth warriors actually sympathetic in this one though, pointing out they use painless stun guns, rather than "oh well they're policemen so they're automatically Good" and also not having them plant a bomb in the doctor's stomach. That was fucked up.
The stuff leading up to Donna fully remembering was Very Good. Her mentioning giving away the money feels like something He would do and everyone just being silent because they Can't Bring It Up etc. I liked that a lot.
I liked Rose being explicitly transfemme but I feel they should have actually set up her being non binary earlier???? as it is it feels kind of like it's saying trans automatically equals non binary??? I do love that she saved the world by being trans though.
The metacrisis going into Rose worked really well too, good resolution to All That. I am less sure about "well we can just Let The Power Go, obviously you never thought of that because you're a man"
New TARDIS console is Perfect i love her sm
Also love Donna lampshading "going inside Just To Look means an adventure will accidentally happen"
Love the coffee thing also. Oh No an adventure is accidentally going to happen

okay but do u hate moffat more or chibnall and why? (im just bored and curious so u r more thank welcomed to infodump if u want to jhjnbc)
Hi Sky! Thanks for the ask! <3
Ok, so I've mostly seen Moffat's work from Doctor Who, and Chibnall's from Doctor Who and Broadchurch.
In terms of DW, I can't stand Moffat, it's true, but Chibnall was more of a disappointment - seems like maybe he can write or run things, but not both? I think he at least tried to do the right things. But I think he lost his way.
This has been said before better than I can, but since you asked.... Imho, Moffat is great at writing one-liners and two-dimensional female characters that exist for the important male characters, but have no character development or, really, personality or even existence of their own. (Also, he's an arrogant, misogynistic and homophobic dickwad.) But I can't watch shows he produced, or most of his oc's, because he's almost incapable of writing characters I care about, and when he finally does create one (Bill) he kills her in the worst, most dehumanizing way - or so I've read about, I actually haven't seen that one to this day.
Besides which, his shows tend to rely on the cinematography and special effects to tell the story, which is something I am not at all keen on. I do enjoy those things when they're good, I just don't like it when they're there to distract from the story, not add to it.
I'm glad RTD is back in charge of DW, because for all his shortcomings, he understands the importance of character development. (And his female characters talk to each other! Sometimes about things that aren't even men!) Plus he's bringing Julie Gardner back and I love her. And of course David Tennant and Catherine Tate are back, and Bernard Cribbins in what may be his final performance. I couldn't ask for a better team than that.

(Warning: contains spoilers for current/recent Doctor Who filming.)
So I've been driving myself slightly insane over the last few days trying to codify my thoughts as to what might be happening in the centenary special and how it relates to the recent filming in Camden with David Tennant, Catherine Tate, and Yasmin Finney (Also, Bernard Cribbins and Jacqueline King have apparently been seen there), and how all of this will eventually lead to Ncuti Gatwa becoming the new Doctor.
And since I'm the kinda guy who tends to keep mental flowcharts in his head and come up with a many variations as possible as to what might happen...here we go.
(BTW let me know your own thoughts about what you think is gonna happen, thanks.)
1. 13 (Jodie) regenerates into 14 (David) who later regenerates into 15 (Ncuti).
2. 13 (Jodie) DEgenerates back into 10 (David) who later regenerates into 14 (Ncuti).
3. 13 (Jodie) is somehow physically split into two or more versions; one regenerates into David, another regenerates into Ncuti. (Numbering them doesn't matter in this version as they exist concurrently.) If there's a third version, that one remains as 13 with Yaz.
4. 13 (Jodie) is somehow split across dimensions/universes into two or more versions; one in one universe (our own) regenerates into Ncuti, another in another universe (alternate) regenerates into David. (Numbering them doesn't matter in this version as they exist concurrently.) If there's a third version, that one remains as 13 with Yaz but in another alternate universe.
5. Same as 4 except all versions of the Doctor exist in this universe. May or may not be "reunited" back into one Doctor at some point in the future.
This is making my head hurt...🤕
I might think of some other variations later.
And ofc if other former Doctors turn up that'll completely throw this out of whack.

For the ship ask game: M, U, R, Y
(For this ask game here.)
Thank you so much for the Ask, Kim. <3 I had fun with these!
M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.
Oh, this is an easy pick. X from Mega Man for sure (specifically the X series incarnation). He's seen as a genuinely friendly character no matter what species you are, and honestly, would easily keep me in check if for some stupid reason I did something dumb.
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
Ooh, a multi-fandom question! The funny thing is all three of these characters are involved in time travel shenanigans and are very tragic characters. Nope, no pattern there, nope.
Quint (Mega Man Classic): I bet no one is surprised by this, given that a ZX version of him is technically my Tumblr avatar. My OG favorite, Quint was actually the first character of any fandom that I completely fell in love with, and a lot of my early Mega Man fanfics were about him. There are still Mega Man fans that, to this day, recognize my old username of RandyPandy and think, "Oh, the Quint fan!" The games didn't explore him much, but the moment that I found out about his backstory, all I could think of was "Wow, that's an incredibly tragic character that can be interpreted in so many different ways."
Inigo (Fire Emblem): I actually played Fates first, so that means I fell in love with Inigo's older self, Laslow, first (my Corrin married him because I liked him the most out of the possible candidates). Then I played the Hidden Fates DLC and Awakening, and learned his backstory. His policy of "Smile so that no one knows you're hurting and so you can make others happy" really struck with me during a time where I tended to hide how I felt about a lot of things (I was in an abusive job when I discovered FE), and it really endeared me to him even more than his Fates self had.
Bruno (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds): This pick I had to think about, given that my two main fandoms are Mega Man and Fire Emblem, and every other fandom that I'm into, I tend to rotate around in my head (thanks, ADHD). But Bruno was my wallpaper on my old Windows 7 desktop until it died. Beyond that, he really brings up the question of what personhood is given that he's an android mimicking a dead human, and was probably one of the most interesting characters in the season that he was in -- he was a full-on mystery (and if you only watched the dub, he remained a mystery), though there were plenty of clues that he wasn't quite what he appeared to be (he really demonstrates the trope "Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass", and really, after he got his memories back, it's a question of "How much of his dumbassery was just an act so the others didn't get suspicious, and how much of it was his true personality, without the stressors of having to make sure the world survives?")
R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?
Ooh, a question about platonic relationships, there definitely aren't enough of those. If we're going with a canon friendship, then I'm going to have to go with the Doctor and Wilfred Mott from Doctor Who (though X and Zero from Mega Man were a close second, I went with these two because I absolutely adore them AND in honor of Bernard Cribbins). I've enjoyed every single interaction with Wilf and the Doctor in every episode that they've been in together (especially the ones in The End of Time), and their relationship really did strike me as very parent/child, and honestly? The Doctor needs that parent/grandparent-like figure that he can just go and hide from the world with.
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?
Oh boy, where to even begin with this. XD Well, for one, I've seen enough Jujutsu Kaisen, Twisted Wonderland, and Danganronpa from you that I see that and my first thought is, "Oh, Kim's fandom!" Other fandoms that I've noticed that several of my friends/mutuals follow are My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Terraria, Final Fantasy XIV, and more. XD
Kirby used to be on that list, but that changed when I did research, watched the anime, played a few games, and then wrote Lucid Dreaming.

Holiday Special 7: The End of Time Part 1
Heyy everyone, it’s time for 10’s swan song as The Doctor, The End of Time. Sadly, due to me being a busy bee today I’ve only got enough time to cover Part 1, so let’s talk about it.
So if you thought Last of the Time Lords didn’t make sense, ohhh boyyyy are you in for a treat with this one. Turns out The Master gets resurrected by dark magic? And then his wife throws a death potion at him that fucks it up and makes him into a skeleton monster. Right… And then he goes on a hungry rampage shoving food into his mouth and zapping anything that moves. This is then stopped by a rich family wanting to employ him to help build an immortality machine, which he then proceeds to use to turn EVERYONE ON EARTH into The Master. This is actually too much, I’m sorry dslfkgj. When you’re using dark magic, death potions, etc. alongside overly drawn out action sequences of The Doc and The Master chasing each other around the place, it just isn’t what I expect from Doctor Who. It comes off a lot more fantasy action than science fiction for the most part, and it’s not even good fantasy action. I can see why fans of that kinda genre would enjoy the runaround but I just find it to be a bit too much for me.
The Master’s character is also at his most obnoxious here imo. I already voiced in my series 3 finale reviews that I wasn’t a huge fan of this incarnation of the character, but having a crazy prime minister is such a good premise that you can’t help but love it. This time around though, it is just more manic Master times with way less intrigue. This Master is a lot more scary/thrilling when he’s in control and for most of this episode, he’s just not. And when he does get control, RTD does it again and creates an absurd level of stakes around a Master story. The *whole world* is The Master like how is this even supposed to be solved? What’s the impact of this story gonna be? It just feels absurd, much like a lot of this story.
Luckily though, despite the madness happening in this story, there is one shining beacon of hope that saves it, and that’s Wilf. What an amazing, heartwarming performance he gives. Every time Wilf is on screen he lights up the place, and he and The Doctor get to have some great moments together. Wilf’s character adds a charm to this episode that cannot be denied, and that’s in no small part thanks to the legend that is Bernard Cribbins. The Doctor’s character is also handled pretty well for the most part, his heart-to-heart with Wilf being the highlight of the whole episode as he explains his regrets to him. There’s good stuff in here.
TL:DR/Overview: Sadly, despite great performances from Tennant and Cribbins, the sheer absurdity of this story is just too much for me to take seriously. Voodoo magic, a skeletal version of The Master with lightning powers, and an entire world made up of Masters. It’s madness. It gets a C off of the back of some bright sparks, but it’s mostly just chaos. Let's see if Part 2 can make sense of all this tomorrow.

Wilfred Mott appreciation post. This man is a brilliant companion to the Doctor and the father we all need (I’d be proud if you were my dad).
“ I’ll look up on her behalf. I’ll look up at the sky, and think of you. “ After Ten is alone again, drenched in dramatic rain, Wilf recites, in one of the most bittersweet moments, that the Doctor is will always be in his thoughts and never forgotten. its a form of domesticity that Ten hadn’t gotten since the exit of his companions, and, in a way, a more fatherly figure. And shoot me, ‘cus every moment Wilf exists the entirely atmosphere of the show gets lifted. Ten sacrificed himself for Wilfred, even though Wilfred is genuinely ready to die for him. In conclusion, all the companions are so important and deserve so much love, but none as much as Wilfred Mott!

Remembering George Martin, Jan. 3 1926-March 8, 2016.
The first photo is the one Paul used on his website in 2016, and the second is from Stella McCartney’s “Stella Loves Liverpool” show at LIPA in 2008. Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison, George Martin, Giles Martin, and Judy Martin attended, though Judy isn’t pictured here.
I recently re-read Paul’s tribute to George Martin from March 2016, but hadn’t been aware until this year that he’d also said this in December 2016:
Paul: The George Martin tribute, that was very moving. It was at St. Martin-in-the-Fields and was sort of funny, and it was sad. So you know, it’s the old one, "We laughed, we cried". But it was a great chance to just remember things about George.
Obviously, you can’t get all the memories in one tribute like that, but there were a lot of great things. There were a lot of great speakers. There was an old Australian pal of George’s, who was very emotional and very moving and he was clever – because everyone was sort of eulogising – and he said: “But George wasn’t all good! You know, he could get pretty nasty if he was losing at cricket!" Which was funny, you know. But then he got really emotional, you could see he was a real buddy of George’s. I didn’t know him, but that was nice just seeing all the sides of George’s life. It was very moving. And it just gave you a chance to say, "Oh my gosh, I knew this guy".  I worked with him so much. He was like a father figure to me, really.
And he was such a self-made man. He was brought up working class and then sort of scrabbled his way to the top. He was brought up in Hoxton. So I think he was a bit “Landon!” at first, like. And then he went to the Guildhall School of Music, so, very much improved. But he was a joy to work with. A really nice man.
And it’s funny because I always used to treasure his thank you letters. Each year, I would send him a bottle of wine: "Birthday greetings, bottle of wine!", from the lyrics of 'When I’m Sixty-Four'. He loved his wine so I would always send him a great red wine. And he would send me the most lovely handwritten thank you letter. And it was always kind of funny, appreciative. I loved his writing. You know how you get to sort of love someone’s writing? I came across one recently actually, in a drawer. And it was like, I love that about him. That he took the bother. He was old school. He took the bother to write a nice, little handwritten thing.
So yeah, all these kind of things were at the tribute. And it was well done musically. Giles, his son, oversaw the music and there were things like Bernard Cribbins, who is a comedy actor that George produced. And he sang one of the comedy songs George produced that was a hit for him. He sang it very well. And like I say loads of great speakers. It was a lovely afternoon. Very emotional. I looked over and there’s Stella and Mary in tears, because they knew him very well. That’s the nice thing, our families have grown up together. It was a lovely, lovely ceremony.
In the Lyrics, Paul also remembers George Martin as “one of the best at making the complex seem simple. That’s why he was always my arranger of choice. I’d known him a long time--most of my professional life, in fact--since The Beatles did our artist test with him for EMI when I was a few days shy of my twentieth birthday. I’d worked with him so much that I knew if I wanted a nice arrangement on something, it would be a delight to ring him up and say, ‘Hey, George, are you interested in doing a thing together?’ He was a true gentleman, and like a second father to me, and always the grown-up in the room, with that delightfully plummy English accent of his. If I had the opportunity to work with him rather than anyone else, I always would--until it came to classical stuff like the Liverpool Oratorio, when I worked with people who had a bit more knowledge in that field. But from that June day in 1962 when he gave us our first recording contract, right up to the last time we saw each other, George was just the most generous, intelligent, and musical person I’ve had the pleasure to know.” 681-82
Paul also talks about how he still has “most of” George’s letters to him and says that Judy Martin still is a letter writer (854). He talks about him plenty of other places in the book too, but those stood out!

Best Holiday Gifts for Geeks in 2020
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
To quote indie rock legends The Mountain Goats, 2020’s mantra seems to be “I’m going to make it through this year if it kills me.” We will all collectively breathe a sigh of relief once New Year’s Day hits, and a side effect of wanting the calendar to change is the desire to just get the holidays over with as soon as possible. Reality being what it currently is, most of us can’t (nor should we) see our friends and family right now. But that doesn’t mean we have to humbug our way through the next month. Small seasonal commemorations, even if it is just you and a tree straight out of A Charlie Brown Christmas, will be the norm this Yuletide. And that’s not ideal, but it’s okay given our circumstances.
Online shopping makes the arduous task of gift-purchasing, for those who can this year, easier—and safer—than ever before. Taking all of these factors into account, we’ve compiled the following geeky gift guide of largely inexpensive items that will make anyone’s holiday a bit brighter. Whether you are shopping for loved ones or just treating yourself (you deserve it, especially this year), these nerdy items will bring a smile to your face as we endure the end of 2020 together, with thoughts of better days to come at the forefront of our minds.
Star Wars: The Child: Animatronic Edition
Price: $59.00
The breakout star of this year’s Toy Fair (whoa, February feels like a million years ago), Hasbro’s animatronic replica of The Child exists somewhere in that uncanny valley between Furby dolls and Disney park professionalism. In other words, this is as close as you’ll ever get to having your own Baby Yoda to hug, and the character’s inherent cuteness is absolutely on display here. A terrific value for its reasonable price tag, The Child features screen accurate sounds and movement that somehow avoids the clunky creepiness that far too often bogs down these types of toys. (Remember the animatronic E.T. from a few years back? Shudder). There’s also fun features build into the bebe, including one that puts him to sleep when you lie him on his back. Love him or loathe him, and if it’s the latter you are a monster, Baby Yoda is here to stay. This toy is a loving tribute to the mysterious asset, and a must own this holiday season.
Buy the Star Wars: The Child Animatronic Edition here
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Gremlins Countdown Calendar
Price: $39.96
Over the past couple of years, Advent calendars have become more popular than ever with licenses from Star Wars to Harry Potter offering up a fun way to countdown to Christmas. Jakks Pacific has done these one better, by presenting a Gremlins calendar that covers through New Year’s Eve. This monster of a product features 31 collectibles—everything from Gizmo wearing a Santa hat to the Electricity Gremlin from Gremlins 2: The New Batch to slime packets because gross. Better still, the packaging folds out to recreate the movie theater from the original film in which you can seat your new Gremlin pals as they plot their next bout of chaos.
Buy the Gremlins Countdown Calendar here
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back: From a Certain Point of View
Price: $22.70
If you’re the type of person who revels in Star Wars Expanded Universe minutiae, and if you are reading these words you probably are, The Empire Strikes Back: From a Certain Point of View is the book for you. Del-Ray’s second volume of stories that tell stories on the fringes of what we witnessed on screen in the original trilogy has gathered a jaw-dropping assortment of writers (among them Amy Ratliffe, Kate Cook, Charles Yu and original Rogue One screenwriter Gary Whitta) for this anniversary collection of 40 stories — one for each year since the film hit theaters. Weaving together familiar events and characters with the larger Star Wars mythos, these stories aim to present new perspectives on familar events in Empire. An audacious task that would seem blasphemous were it in less talented hands.
Buy Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back: From a Certain Point of View here
Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.
Price: $17.99
The second of two non-canon Doctor Who films released in the 1960s, this adventure sees the Doctor, his niece Louise and granddaughter Susan, and an unwilling policeman named Tom who stumbled upon the Tardis while trying to catch some jewel thieves, thrust into a future where the Daleks have ravaged the Earth. This being Doctor Who, 2150 London looks nearly identical to its 1966 counterpart—right down to its hilariously incongruous product placement. Peter Cushing delivers a charming performance as the Doctor, even though the heavy lifting action wise is left to Bernard Cribbins as Tom. (Cribbins would return to the franchise in the revival series as Donna Noble’s lovable grandfather Wilf). Unlike its predecessor, 1965’s Dr. Who and the Daleks, this film moves along at a swift pace, with some fun betrayals and story developments that are better than they have any right to be. The real stars of the show here though are the Daleks—louder and more inept than we’ve seen them before or since. This movie is an absolute oddity, mostly disconnected from Who lore at large yet campy and fun enough to please the most finicky Whovian. For a stocking stuffer this year, you can do no better.

Back to the Future: The Official Hill Valley Cookbook
Price: $22.95
Featuring recipes for Hoverboard Cookies, Maggie McFly’s Biscuits and Cider Jelly, and Doc Brown’s Time-Altering Chicken Pot Pie, Insight Edition’s Back to the Future cookbook aims to bring you the best dishes and cocktails in history. This one is perfect for a movie marathon of all of Marty and Doc’s time travel adventures!
Buy the Back the the Future: The Official Hill Valley Cookbook here
Red Dwarf: The Promised Land
Price: $29.39
Unpopular opinion alert: This year’s best sci-fi revival wasn’t Star Trek: Picard but Red Dwarf: The Promised Land. Airing in the U.K. on the appropriately named Dave channel, this new feature-length special brought back Lister, Rimmer, Kryten, and The Cat for an adventure that contained (future) echoes of classic Red Dwarf installments like “Queeg” and “Dimension Jump” while telling an entirely new story—one about what happened to the rest of the feline race that spawned from Lister’s smuggled cat from the show’s pilot. Unlike recent iterations of the show, this standalone tale mostly focuses on new bits instead of rehashing the past. As a result, Red Dwarf hasn’t been this good since original co-creator Rob Grant left in 1993 following the show’s epic sixth season.
Buy Red Dwarf: The Promised Land here
Aliens Bishop Reaction Figure
Price: $14.99
Part of Super7’s retro-inspired Aliens line (all of which is worthy of your attention), this 3 3/4 Bishop figure lets you recreate the moment when the Alien Queen ripped the poor android in two. Truly a fun toy for the entire family.

The Child Chia Pet
Price: $19.99
Is this Baby Yoda-inspired Chia Pet the only good thing that happened this year? Because it certainly feels that way.

Japanese Spider-Man T-Shirt
Price: $25.84 – $28.19
Thanks to Disney+’s Marvel 616 documentary series, the world is finally discovering the magic of Toei’s Supaidaman series. Otherwise known as Japanese Spider-Man, the tokusatsu show featured a very different version of Spider-Man fighting monsters and the sinister Iron Cross Army with the help of his giant robot and Spider-Car. Seriously. It’s amazing. While vintage merchandise from the show goes for a small fortune and a Blu-ray release weirdly doesn’t exist, the best way to show off your love for this unique take on Spidey is the above T-shirt, available in sizes from small to 2XL. Yeah yeah yeah, wow!
Buy the Japanese Spider-Man T-Shirt here
The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian
Price: $31.99
From Abrams Books comes a lavish behind-the-scenes visual tour of the world of The Mandalorian. Writer Phil Szostak’s fascinating, matter-of-fact writing style gives this hefty tome most of the weight here, but it is the production art and model work by Doug Chiang and associates that will take your breath away. Yes, there are early concept designs and insights into Baby Yoda (which is what this book primarily refers to the character as), but equally interesting are the little details— from costume facts to detailing the creation of the series’ creatures. Since this release only covers the first season, we can expect future volumes. Endlessly merchandising Star Wars, that is the way.

17 - 3
Today is St Patricks day, and there are only a small group of clients in daycare, even for a Sunday. We spent the morning doing a music reminiscence class, the playlist as follows:
Harry Secombe - I Believe
Abba - Thank You For The Music
John Denver - Annie’s Song
Dolly Parton - Islands In The Stream
Johnny Ray - When I Met My Sweet Lorraine
Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds
Nat King Cole - Sweet Lorraine
Bernard Cribbins - Hole In The Ground
As always it was nice to see some of the clients getting into the music, especially Wendy One who always sings along and dances in her chair. She was meant to go out for a cigarette but quickly returned when she heard her song come on, which is always Johnny Ray.
After the chosen songs had been played we listened to some Irish songs to celebrate St Patricks day. No one really seemed that interested in it but some of the clients did know a bit about its history. Lunch today was an Irish stew and pudding was an Irish Apple and Guinness cake. Whilst everyone ate I started a crossword puzzle, most of which I was able to complete, but as soon as Mick had finished eating I asked for his help. He insisted he wasn’t very good at crossword puzzles but I explained that because he is good at quizzes, he should be able to help me. He was able to answer a number of the clues and eventually more people started joining in trying to help me finish it.
Once everyone had been seated after lunch, Gary introduced an Irish quiz. The clients were asked different Ireland themed questions. Mick, as usual, knew most of the answers.
After the Quiz we started a discussion about getting older. Sally read some humorous quotes from a book called ‘Wrinkles, Wit and Wisdom’. Most of the clients really enjoyed hearing the jokes, but some were already napping. Mick says that he doesn’t feel old at all. Joyce says that she has felt old ever since she had a stroke. She says that she doesn’t know where she is or what is she is doing here. Sally comforts her. She reads some more of the book and says that it is important to be able to laugh at the loss of our memories as we mature. We then go on to read some jokes about old age and sex, which Wendy One really enjoys. I notice that Anne is fiddling with her woolen trousers and knitted cardigan, quickly rubbing her fingers in circles on the material. Herta is also fiddling with the edge of her sleeves.
We go on to discuss Honeymoons. Joyce went to London just for the evening and spent hers in a very posh hotel. Wendy Two went to Blackpool but had a stomach ache for most of her trip, remembering that her husband had to go to the front desk and get her a hot water bottle. Ceela cannot remember her honeymoon at all. It makes me sad that she has lost this important memory. She doesn’t seem that bothered by it.
