The Masked Singer Season 3 Episode 16: The Finale/The Winner is Announced (Commentary & Reveals)

Hello fellow lovers of the Masked Singer. Welcome to the last Ana’s Masked Recap of Season 3 (don’t worry I will be back for season 4 in the fall... hopefully, depending on how busy I am). In the meantime, I am probably going to do more recaps of other shows (maybe AGT or World of Dance since they are starting up next week, let me know if you want to see that, I have no idea how I will do it but I will give it a shot) Anyways, for the last time *sheds a tear*, let’s freaking do this: (P.S. they are spoilers just a warning for y’all & I will be revealing them as I go similarly to the format of when eliminated contestants are revealed episode by episode, oh & we are still doing PANEL SPOTLIGHTS woohoo but this time we are gonna give all the judges’ guesses & reward them with a 🏆 or give them the 💩 emoji)

Alright, first & foremost, we have the mask that came in 3rd place, who was:

THE FROG 

Performance: To be honest, his performance of “Bad Boy For Life” by P. Diddy was probably the worst performance of the night, only because there wasn’t any improvement. It was the same kind of performances that he has been doing, which makes sense why he got 3rd place. However, I do gotta give him credit because rapping ain’t easy & he is a great dancer so congrats to him on being in the finals. 

Having said that, the frog was revealed to be:

BOW WOW (AKA SHAD MOSS) 

Yup, guessed it since his first performance! It was pretty obvious due to the clues & here are the latest set of clues:

THE TURTLE 🥺😢

Performance: OK I am so upset about this one, because I feel (and a lot of people I saw on social media felt the same way as me so I don’t feel as dumb for feeling this) that he had the best performance of the night with Before You Go by Lewis Capaldi and he should’ve won honestly. He was the most vocally diverse on the show, he legit gave me chills & if it were based on talent, he would’ve won. This is genuinely the first season in which I don’t agree with who the winner is. In my heart, Turtle won but he didn’t get the trophy. Actually never mind let me give him a trophy: 🏆, here ya go, you deserve all the love in the world & I genuinely am a big fan of you with or without the mask. 

Having said that, let’s get into who he was unmasked (someone who I am still a huge fan of... the same feeling I have towards Astronaut I have towards him):

JESSE FREAKING MCCARTNEY 

(Yes I said freaking because I am hyping him up, btw he came out with a new single, it’s called Friends & it slaps, I 100% recommend it if you are a fan of the Turtle like myself)

THE NIGHT ANGEL

Performance: Ok, yes, she’s the first female to ever win The Masked Singer & congrats to her for that, that’s amazing, girl power (I am a girl myself so I love that). However, her performance of River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner wasn’t anything groundbreaking nor was it enough to beat the Turtle. I can say that about her performances in general. They are great, but they aren’t anything spectacular. Not saying that she sucks by any means, she is a great singer, I just don’t think she won based on talent alone, but probably because she is a female & they wanted a woman to win the show this season since men have won twice before. I am a bit disappointed, this is the first time I don’t agree with the winner of the show & it makes me sad because I am the first person to want a woman to win, but this time I don’t feel like it was deserved. It is what it is though, no hate towards her by any means. 

Having said that, the winner of the Golden Mask trophy was revealed to be:

It has been such a long time since my last blog update in May and many things have happened since then so I thought it was about time I wrote a bit about my recent exchange life here in Austria!

At the end of June our school finished and the holidays started just in time for summer and the beautiful weather. On the last day of school I was put on the boys football team and we played in a tournament against other classes in front of the school. I am really bad at football but it was a lot of fun and we ended up winning all the games so that was a bonus! Also at the start of the holidays I changed host families and I absolutely love them, they have become like my real family! I am now living in a town called Gmunden - the next town over from where I used to live.

The highlight of my holidays was completing a ‘segelwoche’ (sailing week) with my friend Teisha from Australia, my two young host sisters and around 40 other kids. We were all split up into groups based on our ages and everyday we completed about 8 hours sailing on the lake. I think as I am from New Zealand everyone expected me to be a natural at sailing which proved to be far from the truth as my boat capsized many times and I fell into the middle of the lake a lot but that was all apart of the fun! Throughout the week we all learned how to tie proper sailing knots, how to drive the boat and change the sails and how to adjust the boat to the gradient of the wind. Not only did I learn a lot about sailing but throughout the week I also improved my German a lot as nobody spoke English. On the last day of the week we got taken out in the morning on a really big sail boat which we drove to the base of the mountain Traunstein. Me and two others jumped off the boat and were able to swim into caves underneath the mountain which was incredible. The water was absolutely freezing but the experience was well worth it.

Besides the sailing week I have also gone on many excursions and trips around Austria including visiting Mathausen concentration camp situated about an hour away from where I live. This experience was absolutely surreal and although it was a very sad emotional place, it is definitely a life changing experience and a place I would recommend to anyone to visit. 

I also went on a few day trips to Vienna just to explore the city a bit more. I visited Schonbrunn - a famous and (arguably) the most beautiful palace in Austria - and also went inside all of the museums and art galleries and I even got treated to a tour around the famous Spanish riding school which was incredible!! I am now also able to successfully navigate the underground trains around Vienna which is a rather big accomplishment for me as I have no sense of direction or map reading skills whatsoever. 

My host families and I have been on many adventures together including going up Dachstein - the tallest mountain in the region of Upper Austria, going snorkelling, visiting the Franz Josef house where the document that declared the 1st World War was signed, going on the Sound of music tour around the Salzburg region, going to an amusement park and on ALL of the rides (twice) and many many more amazing adventures. Even going to the grocery store with my host mum was always made a good time. I am so thankful to my amazing host family and it is incredible how quickly strangers can become like a real family to you. I think this is something only exchange students truly understand as one year ago the people that are the most important to me now were strangers to me, and now they are my family and will remain the most significant people in my life.

This innocent student stopped going to school and was putting on weight very quickly. Within a month things changed pretty rapidly. He was a JR in High School and weighed about 120 pounds when he came over. We were told he was kind and a hard worker. When I was in High School, my family decided to house a foreign exchange student named, ‘Pocktee'. Thailand scared me a bit and I think it was from the foreign exchange student we had in our house when I was growing up. Stand on the Thailand river bank, and you can look across to Burma /Myanmar and Laos , or hire a boat for a closer look. Another must see is Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, which is stunning from a distance and intriguing close up, with its mosaic detailing, as you climb to the top. While you're there, don't miss the Emerald Buddha and nearby Wat Pho, which is home to the largest reclining Buddha in Thailand. There are also several dances that take place here. If you want a mostly free experience, learn about the history before you visit. You will have to get the hang of it if you don't want to end up in the water, but it's a great thing to do there. The market at Chiang Mai in particular is a great place to head as you can get some great bargain deals there. It was one of my favorite places to travel to. Teisha Ann Putnam

Teisha Ann Putnam, 33, passed away at Stonecreek Nursing and Rehabilitation facility on June 29, 2017. Teisha faced many health issues from birth, but always found a way to make lemonade from lemons, even when life gave her way too many lemons! Her sense of humor and positive attitude were gifts she shared with all. She had a heart of gold and was always thinking of others. Teisha is survived by her mother, Donna Jones and her husband, Bill of Canton, NC, her father, Tony Putnam and his wife, Jackie of Spartanburg, SC, grandmothers, Sarah Mease and Judy Putnam, both of Canton, NC, stepbrothers Christopher Geiss of Spartanburg, SC and Andrew Geiss of Charlotte, NC. She is preceded in death by her beloved sister, Tonya Putnam, grandfathers, Guy Mease and J.L. Putnam, all of Canton, NC, and stepbrother, Hunter Geiss, of Spartanburg, SC. We send a special thank you to Teisha’s physicians and caregivers who helped her through many challenges and to her friends at Stonecreek. A Memorial service will be 4:00 PM Monday, July 3, 2017 at Spring Hill Baptist Church, 1918 Murray Road, Canton, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
