Wait, wait, wait: I saw you had to block people for hating Joey and I’m like: Who the fuck hates Joey? HOW can anyone hate Joey-motherfuckin’-Wheeler?

Like ESPECIALLY from Kaiba-lovers, how can one not appreciate the dynamic between he and Joey? Not only does it set up some funny-ass scenes, but they develop the themes so perfectly? Yugi, Yami, Joey, and Kaiba all foil one another in these intricate ways that highlight the different reactions to trauma. All of them have experienced a loss of control, safety, or sense of self. Yet each character copes a little differently: Yugi leans on his friends, Yami falls back on his strong sense of justice (even if it’s not always very just), Joey puts his faith in the odds, and Kaiba meticulously plans everything to maintain tight control. But what REALLY makes the dynamic interesting is that all of these characters often disagree with each other’s strategies, sometimes vehemently, without realizing that they all, ALSO USE EACH OTHER STRATEGIES but to smaller extents. At some point: All of them have relied on help from others, all of them have defended their morals, all of them have needed to put their faith in luck, and all of them have needed to buckle down and put in the work to create a calculated plan.

And guess what? The show NEVER says that have of these approaches are WRONG, just that you need to balance. These characters have all taught each other how to hone each approach and THAT has made them all stronger.

Plus, Joey is a loveable, happy-go-lucky, scrappy dork. People who hate him are just mad ‘cause they’re crabby Kaibas 🦀 .

i just finished watching the last episode and oh my lord. jesus fucking christ. this show seems so cute and innocent and whatever but all the characters are so well fleshed out.

tamakis backstory??? he got sold to his father in order to financially support his sick mother and is constantly mistreated by his evil grandma. hes an illegitimate child and because of this he is hated and shunned by his grandmother and forced away from his mother forever. he seems so rich and privileged and monetarily? yeah, he is. but emotionally? familially?? he has been so lonely his entire life :[[[[[ . AND HE DOESNT EVEN GET TO SEE HIS MOM AGAIN AT THE END he gets to stay in japan and not get married off for financial gain but he still doesnt get reunited with his mom :[

then theres kyoya who is looked down upon by his father for no reason??? hes just vibing why are you attacking him. and for ages he thinks that all he is is a pawn in his fathers chessgame, hell never get the recognition his brothers get and so he has to be perfect. logical. emotionless. robotic. and then he meets tamaki and gains a newfound appreciation for life and being nice to people and stuff.

i could talk for hours about how much i love kyoya and tamakis friendship holy shit. i wont, not today, but i could.
