judy time :D to be honest vesperia unfortunately is not a sapphic story but the character interactions in the game are still one of the top reasons the game is enjoyed to begin with!
tales of vesperia is a 2008 jrpg that got a remaster on all modern platforms in 2019! by tales of franchise Themes, the theme for this one is "Enforcing One's Justice RPG". the story follows yuri lowell who through a series of wild events ends up going from a trip to saving the water source of his home (the poorest part of the capital) to stumbling into a world-wide corruption and people who suffer as a result of inequality and injustice placed upon them by those who abuse their power. he has a childhood friend who is in the knights, and through that association he meets estelle (moon girl who i like to ship with judith) and makes more friends and expands his world horizon! judith takes some time before making her first formal appearance but she is genuine fun to witness.
People tend to say that the last third of the story isnt like The Best writing and all but in my heart i think its perfect as is especially in the Grand scheme of what the game is trying to say. THAT being said there is a thing abt the game that bothers me a lot that comes with judith sadly :(
a lot of gags with her are also like Haha Sexy Lady gags. while i could Mostly manage through those and enjoy the game despite them, its still a frustrating thing to see especially when you have a guy in the party who is the one enforcing these jokes (literally unfortunate writing choices with him too. hes fine when those jokes are not there)
but when that isnt a thing, judy does end up functioning as a catalyst to helping the party expand their horizons on what truly goes on in the world and all. and of course it goes without saying that her meeting everyone was a very positive thing to happen in her life :)
the game is near and dear to me so when i notice any of these blorbos in a poll i go wild. hence why i was happy to see judy do so well in your poll! whether or not you end up checking out vesperia, i am happy to have piqued your interest! i am always ready to answer any questions
ALSO!!! judy has light novels dedicated to her childhood/growing up before the games events that are translated (dont recall if everything is translated by now though) so this is probably the best way to witness her train of thought as otherwise you see her through yuris perspective
have a good day and thank you for letting me gush :D
oh wow okay, there's a lot to respond here but that makes me all the more happy to see it lsdkjf
It's a bit of a stretch/general thing that a lot of things have, but in fairness the major focus on inequality yet playing up a character for haha sexy laughs (therefore lessening the impact of the focus on inequality) honestly doesn't feel disimilar to the persona series (or at least 5, and its a series I'm a very big fan of,) so my point is that I get it at least and don't judge slkdfj
I'm not really sure what else to comment on tbh but yeah it does pique my interest!! I'm not sure what I'll do about said interest yet but worse comes to worse you might see me contact you off of this account to ask for advice :'D (assuming that's ok!) I do think that if I end up getting super invested in it, I'll probably start with the games before focusing on Judith specifically, to at least get an overview and stuff?

Lenora Reyes’s Not-So-Secret Diary, Entry 5: Parting from Gloom and Expanding to New Horizons [Warcraft Conquest Intro - Tempest's Fury]
April 19, 632 K.C.
Dear Diary,
It's been some time since I last gave your pages some attention. The matters of Duskwood continue to become more shambolic and ominous. No matter what strides we make in ensuring the peace of the Crown, it seems not only our enemies are at odds with us, but also sometimes the people in town.
Tumblr media
I have come to meet a few of those known as Dracthyr, dragon-like creatures with an uncanny similarity to Dragons in general. And like the other beings of the world, they too are susceptible to provocation and anger. Sir Adamar had dealt with one occasion just 4 days ago. And let me say, I didn't agree with how he let the words roll over him. The outright criticism, disdain, and entitlement this Dracthyr expressed was just... enough to make my blood hot. I wanted to hate this person for what they had said, but Sir Adamar had said something that resonated with me.
"How easy it is for you to be riled by a few choice words, I feel sorry for you that you would be so vulnerable to such criticism when knights like myself often do a job without thanks or acknowledgement."
Then it happened again with me last night. While it would be easier in being pulled into the spiral of violence, I wanted to follow my Mentor's example. I had a choice. The words that the Dracthyr could have incited me to act, especially given the hostility towards Sir Jonathan, or... I could let go of the anger and let it slip from me.
If... I let her words speak to me, then I'd be making her words into weapons. And while they were sharp and without a lick of kindness, there was no further incident. But it is only the beginning of a resolution. A means to find a middle ground for her, a creature that insulted my people based on a wrong-doing.
It's sad how one can overlook the perpetual cycle of hatred and become that which they are labeled if not given a break to breathe. It's going to be an arduous task, but I didn't become a Squire to forsake my oath again. I must do more. I have to.
Tumblr media
And of the atrocities in Duskwood? The Worgen are growing more agitated and feral. Their territories no longer have boundaries and they attack without hesitation. They have been spotted closer and closer to Darkshire's heart and have attacked Sir Melek and Sir Adamar within the same week. Not to mention their abilities are becoming more dangerous as well. Ranging from shadow magic to insidious carrion insects with some plague. We have been lucky so far.
Tumblr media
But speaking of insects, even the Spiders have grown increasingly problematic. Mr. Greer thinks that they are being modified by magic or enhanced to display these symptoms. I'm personally not a fan of indulging the idea, but I can't ignore the possibility. It's notions like these that enable us to survive. To regard every situation from all the angles and see clearly to what may be lurking beneath our noses.
Tumblr media
And lastly there is the matter of Blackscale. He has been acknowledged by myself and the Borderland Coalition for his aid against the dangers of Duskwood. But he clutches to the past like he's shackled by it. His soul is tarnished by the loss of his family and he's died only to revisit memories of a life he would have left likely lost if he didn't return as he is. I don't know the nature of his conversation with Lord Sunshield or that of Lady Rosemarri. But the animosity was present the other night when I was returning to Southwatch. I was asked to hold my tongue when he asked for assurance in his safety. Like a chessboard, he feels like a pawn that can never seem to out strategize the enemy King. Perhaps wisdom from Lady Alisena would impart some clarity to him. But I think at this rate, only time can really tell if peace can return to one who is plagued by internal conflict.
But with this going on... I must leave it ALL behind. And trust that where I'm going will not lead me into an even worse scenario. The Dragon Isles is our destination - a group consensus that was voted on just a month or two ago. I, myself, felt inclined to honor the call and already it is here. Our time to venture into a place of unknown and dangers unfamiliar to us. I can say that as much as I wanted good signs, seeing Sir Adamar get seasick just after his first step onto the boat is not a welcoming notion. Not to mention I haven't seen Finn for some time... If the enemies don't kill me, my worry will.
A side note, I am writing a lot of missives while I'm out here. I still have yet to compile my report for Lord Sunshield from the last Worgen attack and that of the Dracthyr aggression. But maybe he will have some sage advice to offer back.
Until next time, Diary.

Fishy, my dear, you might darn well be the only person besides me who exists in the middle of this venn diagram, but I am torn between two options here. In the AU where Jason Todd has a decent career as a YA/children's author, he needs a penname for obvious reasons.
I am torn between "Peter Something," (Peter Al-Ghul? Peter Kane? Idk I need to read more Jason) and using his middle name for simplicity's sake, or going full niche dork and using "Spencer Elliott."
I can't be the only one who sees a similarity between Jason and Eliot, right? Like. Jason's more patient, more wily, more of a mastermind. But other than that... *gestures* Similar vibes??? Idk I'm tired and slightly tipsy I hope I'm being coherent
empress, darling, i’ve got to say i’m more dangling my feet in the dc/batfam circle and floating along in the leverage circle, i simply like reading fanfic from the people i follow even if it's not entirely the fandom i followed them for; it expands my horizons when i read things with half an understanding, and dc is a convoluted classic i haven't much devoted time to detangling.
in terms of jason todd, i primarily know him as tire-stealing kid that bats takes under his wing and resurrected red hood pissed at the joker and bats/until he does the 'kill me or i kill him' thing (+ the fanfic ideal of batfam)
i appreciate you thinking of me!!!! so i’ll give a couple cents best i can:
for the first option i wouldn't have much of a clue bc i don't have too great a grasp on jason as a character, but for last names i think Robinson would be slightly funny and idk why Crowe popped into my head when thinking about it
_
as for the second option, i'm completely, always, totally On Board with the "reference that's kinda unnecessary, kinda not at all related to this, but it's here Bc I Said So"
but i am kinda seeing where you could go with their comparison…
theyʻve both got that anger and went down the way of solving their problems with some ass kicking for their own means. to the point of Jason’s masterminding, agreed, you don't just take control over multiple gangs for funsies— similarly, Eliot has the ability to see the bigger picture, I think— like, it’s been said that he’s 80% con-man/grifter, 20% hitter, and while he doesn’t mastermind his cons, he does take care in whose cons he’s apart of (prefering to work alone pre-leverage) and what is happening in those cons
imo, eliot is more of a passive power and jason is more of an aggressive power, but their vibes for the kind of power they wield / how they wield it are so so similar
also i think it'd be worth comparing them with the distinction of their characters in different parts of their timeline?? like pre-Leverage Eliot and post/during-Leverage Eliot are two very different people, and during-batman/robin Jason and post-batman/red hood Jason are different; there's a distinct shift.
idk i was just thinking about both of their issues/subsequent anger, and what they end up doing with it + how their methods of handling it change (now i'm sort of feeling like a 'you could've been This if you had This Circumstance' could sort of fit in their comparison of where they start and where they end up?)
i whittled this down from all kinds of tangents that were mostly barely related and i was looking for that second link for a hot min but hopefully this was a little worth the wait ? (kala mai/sorry)
thanks for this ask empress!! 💗💗

NEW HORIZONS
~ Dear Taylor ~
I'm a 75-year-old Swiftie, as are my daughter & granddaughters. I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks to you for expanding my horizons.
After reading about university courses inspired by you, I checked Harvard's website to read a course description. It's not there yet, but I followed links to their online courses. Lo and behold, Harvard offers some free courses! I already enrolled in a few and started one on the Giza Pyramids. I never dreamt I'd be taking a course at Harvard. Just to expand my knowledge since we're never too old to do so.
But mostly Taylor, I want to thank you for your goodness. You are a bright light for humanity when we truly need it. I know from my own experience that your wonderful empathy is more far-reaching than most people realize. It's your benevolent life's work...your legacy. Thank you so much, Taylor!
Sincerely, Fred Marlowe :)

"Did you get the flowers?" Mary asked as she sat on the couch flipping through the tv.
Frank patted his chest and then his jeans in search of his keys.
"What?"
Mary kept changing the channels without a beat,"Frank. You're supposed to buy a girl flowers on the date."
Frank furrowed his brow, "Uh...no. Have you seen my keys? Really?"
Mary rolled her eyes, "She's not gonna kiss you goodnight."
He searched on the kitchen table and rummaged through old mail when a knock at the door interrupted his concentration. As he bee-lined to the door, Mary turned off the tv and hopped off the couch to grab her latest book she'd chiseled her way through for the week.
Frank swung the door open abruptly and started you as you stood at their doorstep.
"Hey! You made it, great!" Frank exclaimed. "Sorry, my head's a mess."
Mary now situated herself at the kitchen table and shouted over her shoulder, "It's because he hasn't been on a real date in over six months."
Frank turned red," What? No...I mean yes, but jeez, Mary. Remember we talked about how to read a room?"
He turned back to you, "Come in, come in. I'm just trying to find my keys."
You chuckled and nodded to the doorknob which held his set of keys and he smacked his forehead.
As you walked into the house, you noticed little knickknacks here and there on shelves. And books. Mountains of books everywhere. Piling on top of each other.
"Hi Mary," you smiled as she kept her back to you, nose deep in her book.
"Mary…" Frank scolded as he put his hands on his hips.
"Hi, Ms. Y/N."
You smiled as you approached her, "May I sit?"
She nodded in agreement and you pulled out a chair.
"I brought you something…" you say as you rummage through your canvas bag for your book on crabs. "Well, actually I was hoping you could help me...see…"
Frank smiled as he saw the two of you bonding. He caught himself admiring you more than he'd like to admit as he needed to head off to his date soon. He appreciated your assistance with babysitting Mary as the two of you first met at the local library. His date, Justine, was a waitress at the bar he would visit from time to time. While there was a chemistry between them, it was really just through vanity. With you, he had come to know you at a deeper level: the way you’d squint or furrow your brow when reviewing your clipboard. Or how adorable you’d look chewing on the cap of your pen when trying to finalize an email at your desk. He saw that you loved the color yellow, considering how many skirts and cardigans you’d paired together. And that you were a romantic at heart - the classics were your fave to read and how’d you get lost in historical facts when he had first asked you what your hobbies were. Seeing how a beautiful person you were, inside and out, he now regretted asking Justine out with you on his mind.
Tumblr media
Mary's eyes scanned the books of quantum physics and mathematics. At first you thought perhaps she had another book instead, but as you watched her day in and day out, you were astounded at the tiny prodigy and her ability to ascertain such knowledge at her age. You'd correct the cataloging errors for the day and find her reading for enjoyment it seemed.
Then one day Frank arrived. Mary had always left on her own, but as if it were any old regular day, the handsome uncle came to retrieve his stellar niece. He had a warmness to him. His dark brown hair and beard complemented his face, one that was obvious in an overall attractiveness. And he was kind, he showed that by adopting his niece after her mother had passed away and truly nurturing her gifted talent. You learned he fixed boats for a living and lived not too far from the library. You smiled at the odd pair together, they somehow seemed to work however.
As you checked their books out, Mary tiptoed over the large walnut desk and glanced at you.
"You're pretty," she stated.
"Mary. What did we say?" Frank tsked, embarrassed, but didn't disagree with her observation.
"What? Frank, you told me that I need to state facts, rather than assumptions. And I am stating a fact that Ms. Y/LN is pretty. Do you think she's pretty, Frank?"
Frank coughed into his fist and blushed, you smirked, half wanting to know his answer, half laughing inside of how Mary was so blunt.
"Yes, Ms. Y/LN is very pretty," he replied and gazed at your eyes. He licked his lips and you had to turn away feeling flushed. You closed the last book and placed it in Mary's backpack.
"All set," you replied. "These are due on the 23rd."
Frank zipped up the backpack and slung it over his broad shoulder. "Thanks, we'll see you tomorrow."
"Oh?" You replied as Mary looked at you both attempting to assess the flirtation occuring before her eyes.
"Well, yeah, she loves it here, I mean. And we have a few other books to return."
"Yes, we'll see you tomorrow. Bye, Mary."
"Bye," Mary replied and skipped off.
Tumblr media
Frank showed up every day after that. You found it endearing, but not wanting to read into something that wasn't there, you focused your attention on Mary. That only seemed to peak his interest further. While he had a knack for attracting women, his heart was never in it for the long haul since the minute they found out about Mary, they'd either run away from the possible responsibility, or Mary would run them off herself. But with you it was different. You were genuine and kind to Mary. Knowing quite well of her mathematical abilities, you would challenge her in other areas: art, zoology, history. You found that while she could read more college level books than any person you met in the small town, she still was a child wanting to learn about all other aspects of life. You'd sit together at a table: you, reviewing inventory spreadsheets for the latest book fair and her, immersed in some book that would put you to sleep at night.
"Frank, you should ask Ms. Y/LN out," Mary stated one day as the three of you sat at a table together. Frank practically choked and you shook your head, secretly wanting to say yes.
"Aw, Mary. Well, I bet Ms. Y/LN has guys lined up at her door every night."
"No, she doesn't," Mary replied as she turned a page of her book. Frank laughed and placed his hand on Mary's shoulder, pretending to shake her.
"Well, actually Ms. Y/LN…" he said as your heart skipped a beat.
"Y/N," you interrupted. "You can call me Y/N. I feel we're on a first name basis now considering you're here everyday."
“Y/N,” he smiled. His hair was more combed today. You had noticed that he seemed to be disheveled when you first met him, however either Mary’s tactics were rubbing off on him, or it was your pure imagination.
“Yes?” you piped. You haven't been regularly dating lately. There just weren’t many prospects these days. Not ones that could keep up with conversation, let alone intellect. So instead, you found yourself immersed with your favorite fictional characters in the sea of books you’d grown to know and love.
His brow furrowed, he seemed nervous and he picked at the edge of a book as he attempted to gather his thoughts.
“Do you have a favorite book?” Mary interrupted as Frank turned to her, but seemingly glad she saved him from embarrassment.
“Do I have a favorite book? Hmmm...” you thought and a childish smile appeared on your face. “I have many favorite books, Mary...The Velveteen Rabbit, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe…”
“Yeah, but what’s like your most favorite book?”
You extended your hand out to her and she willingly accepted. Frank perked up his interest as he watched the two of you scamper off into the fiction area. Curious, he stood up and decided to follow. The two of you giggled quietly as you made your way around the columns, your free hand lightly ghosting over the spines of the books. The subtle scent of paper and dust permeated Frank’s sense of smell. He was more of an outdoorsy person nowadays as he had left behind his scholarly days teaching in Boston. It’s where Mary learned most from, his appetite to keep learning, vernacular, and wit . You slowed down and perused a row until you found your favorite book.
“Aha!” you exclaim and hid the book behind your back as Mary jumped up and down with excitement. “Now, I’m not sure if this is something you’d be interested in, it’s more for ten year olds in my opinion. However, I know you’re a very mature young lady and I find that you’d quite enjoy the story if you give it a chance.”
Frank smiled, perplexed as to what book could possibly be your favorite. You pulled the book from behind and showed Mary.
“Little Women,” she stated. “By Louisa May Alcott.”
“Yes. It’s a beautiful story, really. About sisters and the trials they endure during the American Civil War. There’s friendship, love, and growth.”
Mary bunched her nose, you could tell she was on the fence about whether she’d enjoy a story about fictional sisters and yucky love stuff. You started to pull it away, however she grabbed it from your hands. You laughed and looked at Frank who leaned onto the columns and folded his arms.
“Seems someone is wanting to expand their horizons,” he chuckled.
“So it seems,” you smiled back as Mary skipped off to return to the table leaving the two of you behind.
“I’m more of a Lord of the Rings man myself.”
“Really?” you responded playfully. “The Hobbit included, right?”
“Of course,” he scoffed. “I think I actually just read that one to be honest, I just wanted to impress you. I spent my time reading Calvin and Hobbes more, probably how Mary learned my sarcasm.”
You laugh and touch his forearm as a reflex, but quickly realize and pull away. The spark that you felt when you connected was undeniable. You felt butterflies with him standing next to you and you hoped he hadn’t noticed your inability to remain calm.
“Y/N…” he started to say nervously. “Would it be alright if I called ya? Maybe we can get together sometime?”
“Oh, umm,” you replied, caught off guard. While you definitely had caught feelings for the handsome man, you never would have thought it’d be reciprocated. You stuttered, trying to gather your response.
Your hesitation threw him off, and he quickly replied, “I mean...like to sit for Mary or whatever. She really likes you.”
“Of course...yes,” you reply defeated in hopes that he would have asked you out. Instead of asking why he didn’t, you started to walk back to Mary. Frank scrunched his face in frustration in knowing he missed his shot with you and blurted out the most platonic question instead. He realized as well and quickly shoved his hands into his jeans pockets and followed your lead.
Tumblr media
Frank watched as you comfortably plopped yourself next to Mary on the couch, dreading that he had to meet up with Justine. He’d much rather relax on the couch with you and the rugrat, enjoying some silly kids movie together.
You peered over the couch, “Is it okay if she has popcorn?”
“What? Yes,” Mary said flatly and jumped off the couch to the kitchen.
“Okay, miss. But not too much sugar. Bedtime is still at 9,” Frank replied as you shrugged your shoulders.
“It’s the weekend, Frank,” Mary called out from the kitchen.
“Yes, but-“
“Will you be late?” you asked.
He looked at you in surprise, “Um, no. Probably before ten?”
“Okay, have fun.”
“It’s Y/N’s birthday,” Mary replied, carrying two coke bottles and a bag of jelly beans.
You shook your head in regret of ever telling the child when your birthday was. She was so inquisitive that day, asking about all your favorites: food, animals, books, and now birthday.
“It’s your birthday?!” Frank asked.
“Yeah, no big deal.”
“How old are you?” Mary asked as she set the drinks on the coffee table and then remembered how Frank would scold her about leaving water rings. She grabbed the coasters and placed them under the bottles.
“Mary!” Frank detested and placed his hands on his hips.
“How old do you think I am?” You tease, waving off to Frank that it was okay.
“Older than Justine, that’s for sure. She said she was 24, but looks 34. But she acts like she's 12. She hasn't even read anything on quantum physics, she thought wave mechanics was something Frank was working on with a boat,” she said coolly and popped a few jelly beans into her mouth. She nestled herself back into the couch cushions and wiggled her feet.
“Mary Elizabeth!” Frank’s voice boomed as he entered the living room.
Mary leaned over to whisper to you, “Frank says I'm not supposed to correct older people. Nobody likes a smart-ass.”
“And a busy body,” he huffed.
You nodded and laughed quietly, entertained at his expense.
“Well I am 32,” you smiled and looked at your watch, “As of one hour ago as a matter of fact.”
“That’s good. You’re much more mature than Justine and a better fit for him. Happy Birthday.”
“Thank you.”
“Mary…that’s it. You’re on your last warning,” Frank bellowed. “Don’t make me let Y/N go home and then you’re stuck with me tonight.”
“What? No! Okay. I’m sorry,” she lamented and folded her arms.
Frank’s demeanor changed as he turned to you, “I hadn’t known it was your birthday. Don’t feel pressured to sit for her tonight if you have other plans.” Secretly he wanted to cancel on Justine and spend the night celebrating you instead.
“Oh it’s okay! It kind of appeared out of nowhere. I usually go back home and celebrate with friends and family, but my schedule didn’t permit it this year. Next year, perhaps.”
“What’s your favorite dessert?” Mary asked as she chewed on another handful of jelly beans.
“Red velvet cheesecake,” you smiled. “I have a sweet tooth.”
Tumblr media
Frank couldn’t concentrate on his date with Justine. His mind was elsewhere. On you. Justine grazed her hand as they sat next to each other at the bar. He seemed unfazed by her gesture and looked at his watch, 9:14pm. Would it be too obvious if he cut the date short that he was into you? He coughed and took a swig of his beer.
“Do you wanna come back to my place?” She cooed and bit her lip in anticipation.
“What? Oh actually I was gonna head out. The sitter needed me home by 9:30,” he lied.
“Oh, sitter?”
“Yeah, Mary. Remember? My niece?”
“That’s right. How old is she again?”
“Seven,” He said, annoyed. He recalled they had met once before. The bartender approached them and handed Frank the receipt.
“Hey, do you have any desserts on the menu?”
Justine’s ears perked in curiosity of where he was going with asking about dessert.
The bartender grunted slightly and threw a mangled tri-fold menu and Frank grabbed it quickly.
“Buddy, ring me up for the red velvet cupcake.”

what does date night look like for y’all? *chinhands*
"And you, dear heart-- what did you think of the performance?"
Cloud looks up from his meal and sets his fork down. When he glances over briefly at Vincent, who had given his opinions on Genesis's show first, the man simply watches him back, red eyes warm. Even now, after so long, he feels his own cheeks warming under his penetrating gaze as he ducks his head and turns back to Genesis to give his answer.
"I liked it. It was... lively," he settles on saying, not sure how else to phrase it. He really means that Genesis had been lively, bright and effusive as he'd filled the stage with his presence, despite not playing the main role this time. He’d said he’d wanted to ‘expand his horizons’, but Cloud has a suspicion Genesis had decided the roles given to him initially had been because of his identity and not his ability, and, as prideful as ever, now works to ‘earn them for real’.
"Ah, a tough critic. I’ll pull words of praise from you one day yet, Cloud Strife." Genesis looks more than satisfied with his meager response, though, settling back to begin working at his own plate of food, although he continues to regale them with the finer intricacies of the scenes he’d been involved in, as well as his own criticisms of other aspects of the performance. Vincent catches Cloud’s gaze once more, amused but still warm, and Cloud rolls his eyes slightly in return.
After they finish their meal, they exit the restaurant with Genesis sandwiched in the middle, Cloud on the left and Vincent on the right. Their linked hands sway as they walk, and Genesis squeezes Cloud’s hand lightly to draw his attention.
"Thank you for joining us tonight, little bird. I know this is rather outside your interests."
Cloud gives him a bemused smile. "You say thanks every time."
"Why, of course I do. I want to assure you of my appreciation towards your presence each and every time."
"Well, of course I come," he mumbles under his breath. "It's for you."
"I'm sorry, what was that?" Genesis looks entirely too gleeful. "Could you perhaps repeat yourself?"
"Well, I just-- I mean. What kind of boyfriend would I be," Cloud says, "if I didn't... y'know..."
He starts out perhaps a bit too loudly, but his put-upon confidence trails off with his sentence, and he looks away, mumbling again. He only realizes they stand still in the middle of the sidewalk when a gentle hand tips his face back up, and he finds himself staring up at Vincent's eyes again.
"As much as we know the both of us enjoy hearing Genesis speak," Vincent says, mouth quirking up, “I believe it’s about time we did something a tad more your speed, don’t you think?”
“My sp--” He huffs a quiet laugh when he realizes what Vincent means, and it takes only the barest of nods before Vincent curls a strong arm around his waist, cloak whipping around them before they hurtle up into the air.
Genesis squawks something below them, indignant words lost to the wind, and Vincent murmurs in Cloud’s ear, “He’s upset because it was his turn to ferry you to our spot.”
Cloud laughs again. Now, if they’d really wanted a race, he should have brought Fenrir, but there’s no helping it after one of Genesis’s shows, so he’ll have to settle for being carried to ‘their spot’, a very particular skyscraper overlooking Midgar’s ruins. Still, he calls down, “Race you there!”
Genesis says something indignant again, but in the next breath a dark wing unfurls from his back as he leaps to follow, and together they disappear into the night sky.

Today is my third Call me by your Name anniversary.
I’ve probably told the story a million times, in parts or in its whole and in different places but it’s a story I love, so I’m going to tell it again, because I’m a rambling grand ma.
I used to be someone who didn’t like cinema. I love stories but I don’t like cinema, that’s what I was always saying. I couldn’t wrap my mind around how one could come to care about something that was 2 hour long. I had always needed hundreds of pages or dozens of episodes to start caring and to fall in love. Movies weren’t for me. Yet cinema lovers are everywhere and movies do tell stories. It was frustrating for me: certainly I was missing something extraordinary. But since I didn’t like movies, I never watched them (or rarely and often chosen by someone else) and I had been stuck in that vicious circle for quite a while, where I couldn’t have a chance to fall in love with movies.
But I can be persistent and sometimes I know I have to fight fire with fire so I took a cinema subscription card (or whatever it’s called in English) in April 2017. I’m not even kidding you, I was actually looking for *my* movie. That one I could answer without missing a bit to the question : ‘what’s your favorite movie?’
In the following months, I’ve seen a lot of things. There were good things but I still couldn’t quite understand why people could be so passionate about movies.
Come that Tuesday. It’s the 6th of March, 2018. It’s my movie day of the week. I’ve planned to see The Shape of Water and I’m excited about it. From what I’ve seen about it, it’s a movie that has the potential to be *my* movie. On my movie days, I usually stayed the whole afternoon in the theater. At that point, I’m still not sure what I’m going to see after The Shape of Water. When I leave the first screening room, I’m lowkey disappointed. TSoW was good but I didn’t fall in love with anything. When I’m about to choose the second movie, the one that is the closest to start in time is that movie with a lot of blue on the poster. I’m pretty sure there is a 17 years old in it and maybe a student (or is the 17yo the student?) and that’s about all I know.
Two hours later, watching snow fall on the large screen, I’m crossing fingers, silently begging and praying for that Oliver guy to show up. To walk down the stairs, to knock on that door, I don’t know. He just has to be there.
He’s not.
But I cared.
I still do.
I remember walking back home. The sun is coming down and I’m tweeting that, if you can only see one movie in theaters at the moment, you have to choose Call me by your name over The Shape of Water. I’m tweeting about the pain, about the loss, about my heart being broken but most of all about the softness. I swear I couldn’t shut up about the softness. I’m already positively sure that I’m going to see that movie again the next week. I’ve never done that before.
In the following months, I’ve watched this movie, read that book and listened to that soundtrack one too many times. I’ve soon realized that I was mourning a love story that wasn’t mine because I couldn’t listen to love song. Because I was bursting into tears at random time without reason. Sometimes I still do. I was melancholic all the time. Sometimes I still am. I’ve watched the summer of 2018 come and go with wet eyes and an heavy heart.
The mourning took me around six months. There is an album that will be forever linked to that time for me and that will remain one of my all times favorites. Any music from this artist is very dear to me.
I had to write Elio and Oliver back together so I could move on.
Three years later, I can still feel and see the snowball effects this story had on my life. It didn’t turn it upside down but it gave me a key to open so many doors I would have never even looked at before many years without it. I’ve grown more mature, more emphatic, more skilled, more sensible to art, to everything, more so many things thanks to this story. I finally learned how to understand movies. It’s amazing to feel yourself grow, to see your horizons expand and to know the starting point of all of this amazingness is this little story.
It didn’t turn my life upside down but it has touched and enriched so many aspects of it. So many things I’ve watched, listened, created, learned, visited, talked about over the past 3 years were thanks to CMBYN even if they weren’t linked to the story or the fandom itself.
But more than that, I feel like it changed something of me. Thinking about it while writing this post, I couldn’t decide if it feels more like it has shifted something in my brain/memory or in my DNA. Probably both. I’m pretty sure my brain will always process the memories of that summer as they are as much my own than Elio’s and Oliver’s. Every summer day has acquired a sense of nostalgia for me. I’m not sure if it will make sense for anyone else but, it really feels that way. This story is written somewhere in my DNA.
I would never be able to express how grateful I am for knowing I’ll have the most precious gift to cherish and protect forever. For knowing I’ll carry it with me for the rest of my life. Stories are my favorite everything in life. Three years ago, I have welcomed the most perfect one for me as a part of myself. I couldn’t feel more fulfilled.
💙💛

hi! i was just wondering if you have any dc blog recs? (or even a blogroll? i know it's not 2015 anymore but lol) trying to expand my dc horizons. thank you so much!
i'm glad to hear you're expanding your horizons! it's always good to read a variety of books! unfortunately, i honestly don't follow that many comic blogs that aren't source blogs (justiceleague, dcmultiverse, magicblazersource, lgbtincomics, + a bunch of x-men source blogs). the only individual person who i follow that is primarily a dc blog is my dear @hood-ex. she mostly posts about nightwing, the rest of the bat family, and the new teen titans.
there is the @nonbatdcu blog that is exactly what it says on the tin, and posts about all the other dc ip's that are not bat-related, including some reading recommendation lists. i bring that up because i think a very vocal majority of dc tumblr is bat-related, so i wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason you were looking to branch out lol

unintended | part four
| part four - don’t waste your time or time will waste you |
Pairings: king!bucky x reader | king!steve x twin!sister
Summary: The moment you have come of age, you are being ripped out of the place you call home and into the kingdom of Cydonia ruled by King James, your betrothed. Neither of you pleased with the situation, neither of you being honest. Between fights, snarky remarks and glaring, do you find time to breathe? Is it possible to reconcile or even love one another?
Warnings: slow burn, inaccuracies in term of royal affairs and such,
A/N: i am so so sorry for the delay, but this is pretty long so I hope that makes it ok. this is my entry for @sillyqt 1k writing challenge!! hope you all enjoy!
Dividers by @whimsicalrogers
Tumblr media
A few days, that’s all you had until you would officially be the wife of King James and the Queen of Cydonia. There was a part of you that screamed and shouted at you for not enjoying your time unwed. For letting (as they call him) Bucky take your thoughts away from more important things.
The only thing keeping you steady is the fact that your sister would be arriving for the wedding. Her and Steve will attend the ceremony and you can finally have your family together in one place again.
As for today, Bucky has arranged a ride through the woods, but you were sure his mother set it up.
An entourage of guards were riding behind you and Bucky, alongside Sam and Clint. It was the same route you rode through with Clint and you were excited to see the flower field again.
The fresh air bit at your cheeks, leaves rustling above you. Bucky was chatting happily with Sam and Clint looked at you from the corner of his eyes. You knew that he wanted to talk about the ball, about what happened. You were confused.
The trees thinned before you and the flowers peaked through, flowers of every colour. Your chest fell and you breathed through your nose. The scent filling your senses. As soon as you rose through the tall field, sun falling from the sky, slowly, a smile spread across your face.
Bucky came to a stop and a blanket was laid out. You sat next to Clint, reaching forward to pick some flowers and bind them together.
Bucky sat looking at you, sun shining orange and yellow across your figure. You looked peaceful. Flowers laid out before you, eyes fixated on your hands as they connected the different flowers together in your delicate fingers.
You smiled as you finished the flower crown, but instead of putting it atop your head, you turned to Clint placing the flowers on top of his hair. Clint laughed striking poses with the crown making you laugh. You missed it but Bucky couldn’t help but laugh.
Tumblr media
You and the others mounted your horses again, taking the cobbled path back to the palace. You were sure that you could never get tired of the sunsets here in Cydonia. For some reason thy are even better than at home.
As the little house came to view a smile broke out on your face, seeing the family out on the front. You saw the girl from a few days ago sitting on the grass. You got off your horse walking towards the house.
You greeted the family, two boys standing off to a distance shyly and with their mouths agape. You were sure that this didn’t happen often, seeing the King so casually riding by. You dismounted your horse, walking up to the little girl. Her smile was unmatched from the first time you’d seen her, the admiration warming your heart.
“When I grow up I want to be a princess!” The little girl exclaimed with excitement.
You smiled, but within you, you were glad that she wasn’t.
You sunk down to your knees, turning the girl around by her shoulders. “You see that?” You pointed to the line of trees cutting the sky, orange and red painting the blue. She nodded her head. “That’s the horizon. Do you know what’s beyond it?” The little girl shook her head ‘no’ and you giggled. “It is your duty to find that out. To ride to the horizons of the world, sail the sea where the sky meets the water, to leave no part undiscovered and to learn what has not yet been learned and protect what needs protecting. To welcome everyone to follow you on your quest who wishes to, and lead them with care and love.”
You turned the girl to face you, tears welling up in your eyes. You ushered to Clint to hand you the flower crown, holding it above her head. “I hereby announce you the princess of the horizon. May you choose your path and widen your horizon.” With that you lowered the flower crown on her head, cheers erupting around you and you bit back the tears threatening to fall. If you could not do it yourself, then you would inspire someone else to do it.
Bucky watched with adoration. He was sure of it, the fact that you tried to give the girl what you don’t have. The freedom to run to the edge of the world with no one chasing after you. To chose your path amongst many and never slow down. Without the heaviness of the crown crushing your weight. Bucky realized that maybe, just maybe you weren’t so different from him, that your dreams sync up in a way.
But there was the tiny problem that you felt nothing for him, you’ve made that very clear Bucky thought.
You rose from your knees, walking to your horse. A tear escaped from yur eyes, but you were quick to catch it. A look back on the family and you saw the girl swirling, a big smile on her face.
Soon. Soon you’ll have Julia to confine in.
Tumblr media
While you were wrapped up in preparations for the wedding, Bucky was struggling to wrap his mind around the different sides you’ve shown him. He was trying to puzzle together the pieces to get a clear picture of the woman he’d be married to by tomorrow. The one who he’ll build a family with.
Bucky asked himself if that would be possible though. For the past days he’d had this strange feeling every time he’d seen you. The was you walk, talk or laugh with your family. The way you behaved when you’re parents were around was something he’d not seen ever since you arrived.
He walked through the corridors, his shoes echoing through the space. Servants carrying candles and golden candle sticks for the wedding. He roamed these halls like every other day. Bucky wasn’t nervous when he became King. His father ensured that he was well prepared for the day he would take on the throne.
Bucky reached the oak wood doors of his mother’s chambers. As soon as he stepped into the room, his mother embraced him in a hug, her face bright and glowing. There aren’t a lot of times where Winnifred, the Queen mother, looked this gradient. It was said she had the same expression when Bucky was born, her wedding and Bucky’s coronation.
“My Bucky, I’m so proud of you.” Winnifred beamed with excitement. “I’ve been waiting for this day for, oh god, way too long.” She cupped his cheeks with her gloved hands.
“I know, mother.” Bucky smiled weakly, his mothers face falling. She took his hands and guided him to the velvet sofa.
“What’s wrong?”
Bucky exhaled, scrambling his brain for the right words to say. “Why did you chose Y/n?”
Winnifred stared at Bucky, eyebrows furrowed together. “She’s perfect, that’s why.”
“I don’t understand.” Bucky tilted his head, rubbing circles on the back of her hands to soothe her.
Her face relaxed. “On my search of a suitable wife and Queen, I met a lot of princesses. A lot of them from finer families than you could imagine, ones with more wealth than the last, education from the most knowledgeable men, princesses who have been trained to perfection. I even considered her sister Julia.”
Bucky’s lips parted. The thought of marrying your sister was odd.
“But when I spoke to their father, I knew that Y/n was the only choice for you. Sure, they’re not the finest family, or the richest, but Y/n loves to travel just like you. The people love her because of her nature, the way she presents herself. Her knowledge expands beyond textbooks, she lives with a sort of freedom that reminded me a lot of you, dear.” His mother caressed his cheek.
Bucky was running her words in his head again and again. If only he wasn’t such an asshole the fist time he met her, maybe she would’ve fallen in love with him. His mother had all the right reasons to chose you and his big head got in the way.
“Mother, I made a big mistake.”
Tumblr media
Your brain was going a mile per hour. Between trying the dress on and deciding what jewellery to chose, you barely got the chance to breathe. You were so wrapped up in your head, you didn’t even notice your mother walking through the door. With your head hanging low to look at the different necklaces, you examined every stone, getting lost in the different colours of the rainbows.
“You look beautiful, darling.” Pepper spoke quietly behind you and you looked over your shoulder. Pepper held her hands over her chest, glossy eyed.
You wrapped your arms around her, afraid that she might disappear. “Thank you.” You drew back, Pepper’s eyes roaming the dress until her eyes met yours again.
“I’m so glad you’re happy. You are, aren’t you?”
“Yes, yes I am.” You said, but you weren’t sure if it was for your reassurance or hers.
“Good, because I brought a special guest for you.”
You heard the door to your chambers close and as soon as you saw the figure moving towards you, you knew it was Julia.
You let go of our mother, throwing yourself in Julia’s arms. Immediately the forset stared running and your cheeks were wet from tears. You never thought you could miss a person this much. Feeling Julia’s body pressed to yours, the scent of her flowery perfume and the satin of her dress brought a sort of comfort to you like nothing else.
With a shaky sob you pulled apart, taking a good look at your twin. Her hair nicely pinned up, a gold crown sitting atop her head and she already looked like the Queen she would soon be.
“Y/n, you have to idea how much I’ve missed you.” Julia spoke, with teary eyes.
“I’ve missed you more.”
Your mother’s cough interrupted your sweet sisterly moment and you followed her eyes to the person standing at the door.
Steve, the King of Thaumasia, smiling brightly at the two of you, but you were suddenly afraid you had disrespected him by not addressing him first. You lowered yourself in a deep curtsy. “King Steve, I apologise.”
“Princess Y/n, no apology needed, I know you were just as eager to see Julia as she was to see you.” He kissed the back of your hand and upon further inspection, you noticed that he was just as handsome as in the portrait, but he could not compare to Bucky. Wait what? “I heard there will be an archery competition later today?”
Your face lit up as soon as the words left Steve’s mouth. “Yes! I will be participating, of course.” Your smile reached your ears at the thought of it. It is tradition in Cydonia to hold a competition in archery. The winner will choose who will be given the title ‘woman of orchids’. In Cydonia it is a great honour to be chosen, as she will represent the love and fertility of the King and Queen.
“No one will stand a chance!” Julia chimed in, making Steve laugh loudly.
“I look forward to it. Now if you excuse me, I’ll see what Bucky’s been up to.” Steve bowed again before taking his leave.
Tumblr media
You changed into a ruby coloured dress made by Natasha’s request and you could tell just by the heaviness that shooting for a target will be a disadvantage for you. The pearls around your neck are a nice addition to the deep red, but not exactly something you would pick for archery.
“Nat, do you think I could wear something less extravagant?” You turned on the spot to look at Natasha.
“No, absolutely not! You look fantastic in this dress and I can’t stand seeing you walk around in those striped dresses any longer.” Nat scrunched her nose, waving her hand in front of her face.
“But I know for a fact that I won’t be able to shoot arrows with this on.” You pointed to the skirt of the dress.
Her eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Shoot arrows? You know you won’t participate, do you?”
Your mouth opened and closed. You knew things were different in different kingdoms, but everyone was allowed to participate in tornaments. “Oh, ok.”
You walked off next to Natasha and Clint to the courtyard. From the distance you could see the masses and Bucky, Julia, Winnifred and your parents to the side. You were just as dolled up as they are, but that would stop you from trying to enter.
As you greeted everyone, you sat next to Bucky on the raised platform on cushioned chairs, overlooking the lawn where ten targets were stood a few feet away. All the participants stood on their designated places, getting ready. Your leg was shaking in anticipation and you glanced over to Clint who stood off to the side. The guests from all kinds of backgrounds stood behind the participates, waiting eagerly with their champagne flutes.
There was just one question in your mind and when you turned to Bucky you blurted it right out. “Can I participate, too?”
Bucky was taken aback by your question, but one look to you and he knew that he couldn’t refuse. He could say to just to annoy her, but Bucky knew that that would be counterproductive to his plan, so without hesitation he ordered one of the participants to step down from the competition and gestured for you to take his place.
He watched as you descended the stairs, walking passt all the men staring at you as if they’ve never seen a woman before. It was amusing to Bucky, seeing you walking so confidently and he enjoyed it. Bucky leaned forward watching as you took the bow in your hands as the tournament started.
As soon as the first few arrows flew towards their targets, you knew nobody else stood a chance. Every round after that you proved to the men next to you that you were the best, hitting bullseye every time no matter how far away it was. With the last bow fired, cutting through the air, you knew you had won, but the faces of the guests were still priceless.
“Congratulations to Princess Y/n!” The words left Sam’s mouth and you turned to look at Bucky, your face hurting from the extensive smiling, but you still lowered yourself to curtsy. Sam came forward handing you a flower crown made of different colours and plants. “You may chose you woman of orchids.”
With a few strides you reached the wooden platform, standing in front of Julia. “I hereby chose you, Princess Julia, to be my woman of orchids.” You lowered the flowers on her head. Julia jumped up, hugging you while the people around you erupted in cheers.
From the corner of your eye you saw Bucky standing, clapping, with the biggest smile you’ve ever seen. You untangled your arms from around your sister and turned to Bucky. Maybe it was his smile, the proud look on his face, or the feeling of victory, but the urge to kiss that smile off his face was unnerving. Your heart hammered in your chest, taking a step forward. Without thinking much, you got on your tiptoes, placing a gentle and light kiss on his cheek. The look on Bucky’s face was worth the heat crawling up your cheeks as he blinked frantically.
Tumblr media
Bucky slowly took the crown from his head, placing it on the cushion with distance in his eyes. Maybe you didn’t resent him as much as he thought. Maybe in the middle of all this you saw what he saw, a partner. Bucky couldn’t make a lot of sense of your sudden affection towards him since you’ve been fairly distant since the ball. Maybe it’s all a show.
A knock on his door pulled him out of the trance like stante and as soon as he saw Steve, relieve washed over him. “Steve, good to see you.”
“Yeah, I feel like now more than ever we have less time for each other.” Steve laughed as he hugged Bucky.
“especially since both of us are getting married.” Bucky poured wine in two goblets, offering Steve one.
“Tomorrow is you big day!” Steve beamed as he sat down on one of the velvet chairs opposite Bucky.
Bucky sighted, turning to look at a portrait of his father. “I just with my bride would be excited too.”
“What do you mean?” Steve scrunched his face. “She seemed pretty happy by your side to me.”
“Well, the thing is we had some... issues.” Bucky looked at his friend, finding nothing but confusion, so he explained everything from the start.
“Bucky, I know you’ve had some issues in the past and with your fathers passing ruling became your number one priority, but you have to understand that it’s not her fault. She has to face the same fate as you.”
Bucky looked down in shame, taking a big swig of wine. “I know. I talked to my mother.”
“That’s not enough.” Steve interrupted him. “You have to talk to Y/n, too. Explain the situation and confess your affection. You have affection for her, do you?” Steve grinned.
“I do, yes. But I’m afraid she doesn’t.
“The only way to find that out is by talking to her. Go to her tomorrow first thing in the morning and clear the air.”
Bucky smiled weakly. “Ok, I will.”
It wasn’t like Bucky was afraid to talk to you, he was afraid of what you would say. The feelings that have manifested were scary to him and to have his heart broken by the one he will marry would only mean unhappiness. And Bucky wasn’t ready to have his heart broken again.

New Words
Asra and the Apprentice (during their rehabilitation) take a day trip. The events leave the Apprentice feeling insecure of their speech problems. At this point, the Apprentice can speak only a few words and can walk but does so with a cane. This is the said fic prompt that was keeping me awake at night lol.
Quick warning: Minor assault scene but nothing major or graphic
Word Count:  4560
AsraXGen Neutral Apprentice/Reader
My eyes flutter open as the sun shines through the window, shielding my eyes from the bright warm light, I sit up. I can hear Asra idly humming in the other room. He must’ve woken up early cause he knew how excited I am. Last night Asra asked me if I wanted to go to the beach. Although I could not physically voice my excitement I enthusiastically nodded telling him I would very much like to go. Ever since I awoke to Asra and Faust not too long ago, nearing a year, give or take, I have struggled to do basic tasks. Since then I have learned to walk, although I use a cane to keep me balanced. And I can speak a few words but I’m still struggling. Asra will read to me some days so I can expand my vocabulary until I can read and speak for myself. It's not easy but I’m eager to learn. I reach over and grab my cane to help me stand, Asra walks in and gives me a smile.
“Well good morning,”
“Hello,” I respond. I can pronounce good, but morning is what always gets me, so we opted that hello can be a place holder for many words. Good morning, hey look over here, welcome back and even goodbye sometimes. I remove the kettle from the stove and carefully pour the hot water into the cups preparing the morning tea Asra and I always have. Once I was strong enough to hold the kettle Asra was always conveniently away when I woke, so that I was the one to make the tea. We both grab our cups and Asra puts out his arm so I can steady myself as we walk to the table. Sitting down I take in the aroma of my drink.
“Tea,” I mumble to myself as I raise the cup to take a sip. Although my vocabulary is short I try to say the few words I can as often as possible as a way to practice.
“So are you sure you still want to go to the beach? The sand might be tricky for you to walk on,” Asra looks at me over the rim of his cup. Although he’s already dressed I can tell he would willingly change back into regular clothes and stay home.
“Asra,” I give him a glare. I spend the majority of my time upstairs alone and engaging in “physical therapy” as Asra calls it. It's boring and I hate it, I want to see more of the city but I can't leave without Asra. If I were to get lost I wouldn’t even be able to ask someone for directions.
“Okay, okay. Beach today it is,” He gives me a quick smile before looking into his cup smile disappearing into the empty mug. I scrunch my brows in worry but before I can call his name, getting his attention he starts. “I’m going to grab some things to bring with us, you go ahead and get dressed,” he then stands and leaves to find some beach-worthy supplies. After putting our cups in the sink, I grab my beach clothes and change behind the partition in the corner. Our home above the shop is small but Asra makes sure I have the privacy I need. Once I'm dressed I put on my cover-up and do up the buttons. I poke my head around the partition but my vision is blocked by.. straw? I hear Asra let out a giggle.
“I got you a hat, it’s a sunny day and we can't do with you getting a sunburn,” I fix the hat so it’s sitting properly on my head and give Asra a look. I’ve never burned while going out, although whether it is due to the fact that I simply don't burn or Asra mothering me I will never know. Asra picks up a bag and I can see a few items poking out. A blanket, a canteen, and what looks like to be some sandwiches. He probably prepared them while I was still asleep.
“Ready to go?” Asra gives me a smile. To which I respond with a nod.
—- As my apprentice and I steadily make our way down the stairs I can't help the impending nervousness that boils in me. Their hands are placed on both my shoulders as I walk in front of them. Their motor skills have improved immensely but walking is still sometimes a struggle for them. We sometimes go to the market but we can only ever be out for about an hour. This is why I make them stay home and do exercises to build their strength. But I could tell being home all day was getting to them. Large crowds make them nervous but one can only spend so long alone especially when they can barely speak or read for entertainment. My nerves begin to grow until I hear their quiet voice in my ear.
“Asra,” I look over my shoulder at them, flushing slightly when I realized we’ve reached the end of the stairs and have been standing there for an awkward amount of time.
“Ah sorry, I was a little lost in thought” I move out of the way so they can walk ahead of me out the door. I follow behind silently.
“Friend okay?” Faust pokes her head from my bag and looks up at me. I give her a short nod and turn around to lock the door of our shop.
“Ok, time to find a gondola,” I turn to walk toward the town square where most of the gondola drivers park but I feel a hand grip my arm stopping me in my tracks.
“Walk?” My apprentice gives me a confused look. I thought I told them last night but I guess it slipped my mind.
“Well, walking on sand is hard enough and I didn't want you to tire yourself out before we got there so taking a gondola most of the way makes sense,” they scrunch their eyebrows and I see their bottom lip poke out slightly. They’re pouting, I could so easily tease them but opt not to.
“Walk!” They wave their cane in the air slightly, signifying they can walk just fine with their cane. But that doesn’t convince me otherwise, I worry theyll get too tired and we’ll have to take a gondola anyways. I rub my hand on the back on my neck and think for a second.
“How about we take a ride there, but on the way back we can walk, sound good?” They scrunch their nose as they think about my proposition, making a grunted thinking noise before they huff in finality. They give me a distinguished nod acting as though they were not just pouting a second ago.
“Ok, sounds good to me,” they give me a smile and we walk towards the town square. I find a gondola man and drop a few miscellaneous shiny items in their hand, then requesting they take us to the East Docs. The ride is peaceful and quiet, Faust makes her way around my shoulders so she can watch the sights go by just as my apprentice is. Their wide eyes scanning everything we pass by with awe. The East Docs and beach areas are used the most so the lingering ash from the Lazaret was cleaned up, unlike Ash Beach. The east beaches are small but people usually stay away because it's so close to the south end. Hopefully, my apprentice and I can enjoy a peaceful day alone.
Once we reach our destination and exit the gondola my apprentice's face lights up, I rarely see their genuine smile, and when I do it's always a treat. We approach the shore and I scan the area. There are only a few people here, perfect beach day scenario. I see my apprentice step onto the sand and wobble a little, leaning on their cane for stability and I reach out and grab their arm to help. They give me an embarrassed look, it takes every muscle in my body not to make an I told you so face. We back onto the cobblestone and I place my bag down, removing Faust from my shoulders and placing her onto my apprentice's shoulder. Both of them tilt their heads in confusion. I crouch down slightly my back facing my apprentice.
“Get on, I’ll carry you,” I hear a short squeak come from their mouth but before long I feel them climb onto my back. Arms around my neck and legs around my sides, I place my hands on their legs to hold them up. Once I know they're secure I stand up straight feeling them cling to me for dear life, retrieving my bag I waltz out onto the sand carrying my oh-so-precious cargo. —- The last thing I expected out of today was to be on Asra's back. I also did not expect the sand to be so slippery and full of rocks making it hard to balance let alone walk on. I was silently praying thanks that Asra offered to carry me, maybe for more reason than just the one. I'm used to being in such close quarters with him but being on his back I’m realizing how good he smells. He smells like the tea we had this morning and sage with a hint of cinnamon. It’s almost addicting. I poke my head out from his right and I look around. We’re actually at the beach! My heart flutters in excitement as we near closer to the shore.
“Getting excited are we?” I suck in my breath flushing, oh dear, Asra must be able to feel my heart thumping on his back. I nod slowly, the brim of my hat dancing on top of Asra's fluffy curls. He stops walking and looks around. “This spot seems good.” He crouches down again allowing me to climb off his back, his scent leaving with him. I angle my cane to help me standstill as I observe the shore. Asra reaches into his bag and pulls out the blanket, spreading it out onto the ground. Taking my hand he helps me sit and promptly plops himself down next to me. We both let out a sigh as we look out onto the horizon. Asra reaches into his bag and pulls out two sandwiches handing one to me. I put my cane behind us and open my sandwich taking a bite. We sit in silence eating and drinking in our view of the Vesuvian shores. After swallowing my last bite, I lay down on the blanket and stretch my arms above my head. My hand swipes over something other than sand though. I grab it to get a better look, it's a seashell. Or at least part of one, its broken in half but it’s still beautiful regardless. The brown stripes running across remind me of a ribbon I saw once in the market place.
“Found a seashell?” Asra leans over observing my find. I nod and hand it to him. “Yknow we can go look for some more, ahh I don't know if I can carry you and look for seashells at the same time though,” I flush at the thought, I can imagine how ridiculous it would look. “I am also not fond of leaving you alone to go look for some myself...” Asra trails off when an idea strikes me.
“Faust,” I say looking at her as she pokes her head from the sand. Asra looks to her and then me and nods.
“Alright,” he pulls Faust from the sand and holds her up to his face so she can look at him while he speaks. “Ok Faust, I'm giving you an important task, stay here with MC while I look for seashells, protect them from harm,” I chuckle at Asra's theatrics as he hands Faust to me. What could possibly be dangerous about a beach? Asra gets up and jogs down to the shore and I wave as he leaves.
Once Asra leaves I undo my cover-up to let the sun hit my skin, setting it to the side and watching Faust turn it into her bed. I begin to scan the beach, there aren't many people here. I see a small family, two parents, and two children. They run about the shore squealing with excitement. I find myself thinking about family and whether I have one when I feel a headache creep up on me. I shake my head trying to will the pain away. Asra taught me to meditate when I feel a headache coming but sometimes they get too intense and I need Asra's help, and he’s not here right now. I look around the beach again trying to distract my thoughts until my eyes fall upon an island in the distance. I’ve heard people talk about this island, the name escapes me but I know people are scared of it. I can't remember why though. I continue to stare at this island, feeling utterly enamored with it, almost like I can't take my eyes off of it. My headache starts to slowly crawl up the nape of my neck but I can't manage to look away.
“Hey! I'm talking to you!” The voice breaks me from my trance and I look up at the man standing above me. I don’t recognize him. He’s standing very close to me, and he doesn’t seem to be dressed for the beach so what is he doing here?
“H-hello,” I stutter out. He has a nasty look on his face. Something about this man makes me uncomfortable.
“So you can talk, What's a pretty thing like you doing alone here?” He bends down slightly leaning over me even more. My heart starts to pound as I realize, he wants to talk with me. But I can't, I start to frantically look around for Asra until I see him. He’s further down the beach leaning in the water digging in the sand.
“Asra,” I try to shout but my voice is hoarse and quiet.
“Asra?” The man follows my eyes and sees Asra in the distance. “Oh, what is he your boyfriend? Well, he's not a very good one for leaving you all alone,” the man crouches down to my level getting closer to me. “Why don't you ditch him and come with me?” I lean away from the man and slowly shake my head. “What you’re too good for me or something?” The man's voice starts to become more hostile as he leans closer to me. I continue to lean away trying to will my voice into appearing, if I could speak I would tell this man to leave, but I can't and he isn't leaving me alone. I need help. Suddenly he grips my shoulder.
“C’mon can't you speak or something? Don't you know you have to answer someone when they ask you a question?” His grip on my shoulder becomes tighter and it starts to hurt the panic in me starts to swell and I act suddenly.
“No!” I scream and shove him away from me sending him onto his back. The man quickly scrambles to his feet and looks down at me once again. His face is red and his breathing is harsh and heaving.
“Little shit!” In that moment he kicks sand into my face. I start spluttering wiping the sand from my eyes. I feel something cool and silky run over my leg and I hear a scream. I manage to open my eyes and see the man thrashing at Faust who is wrapped around the man's leg, squeezing. My heart starts to race, this man could hurt Faust, my friend, and more importantly Asra's friend. I grab my cane from behind me and sit upon my knees swinging my cane at the man nailing him in the side.
“NO!” I yell once again, I’ve never said that word but my fear trumped any other emotions at that moment. The man falls onto the ground.
—- The waves are cool as they wash over my legs. I’ve managed to find quite a few seashells I'm sure my apprentice will love. I pick up a purple one and place it in my pocket. I look around at the ground again and see possibly the biggest seashell I've seen so far. It's similar to the one they found, white with brown stripes. I'm sure they’d love a complete version. I lean down to grab it but the wave beats me to it bringing it away with the current. At that moment I think I hear something.
“NO!” I stop in my tracks. That wasn’t who I thought it was... was it? No, it wasn’t MC they haven’t been able to pronounce their own name let alone “no”. When they get annoyed they usually say my name in an annoyed tone. I look back at the sand trying to find the shell the wave washed away but then I hear Faust’s voice.
“Friend! Help!” I whip my head around and scan for our spot and I see it. My dear, shy, friendly apprentice, swinging their cane? Onto a man? Are they beating a man up? Panic swells in me and I race up the beach. I can hear them yelling and sobbing “no” as they whack the screaming man senseless, Faust unravels from the man's leg and approaches me, I grab her placing her on my shoulders, and approach the scene.
“Hey, hey!” I grab their cane mid-swing and they flinch facing me. The moment their eyes meet mine however they relax, their eyes red from crying and their breath heaving from swinging. I ignore the man groaning on the ground and keep my apprentice's attention. “What happened,” tears swell their eyes and their voice comes out croaking.
“Faust.... Asra” they point to the man's leg and then point out to where I was standing. Their breathing is heavy and their voice is hoarse. My heart aches to see them so distressed. They grab their shoulder mimic someone tightening their grip. They then grab sand and point to their face with their other hand. I don't know what happened but I think I understand, I hand Faust back to them and look at the man who has now recovered and stands. I glare at him and he stumbles back slightly.
“Don’t you know when someone says no it means no? Get out of here before I call the attention of the guards,” there are no guards in sight but the notion strikes fear in the man who leaves without a word. I crouch down and catch my apprentice by the hand, the moment we meet eyes the tears start flowing, I pull them into an embrace and rub their back shushing comforts into their ear. I watch the man approach the street and flick magic his way, causing him to trip into a large burly man walking in the street. I think he still needs to learn his lesson. I look back at my apprentice pulling away before witnessing the man's unruly fate. They sniffle and look down at Faust who is wrapped around their hand.
“Faust,” they give her chin scratches and look up at me.
“You’re safe now, well maybe you were never in danger, who knew you could swing that cane so hard, maybe you don't need as much physical therapy as much as I thought you did” a snort comes out of them and they try to hide their laughter behind their hand. “Let's go home now” my apprentice nods back at me grabbing my hand as I help them to their feet.
—- Asra folds up the blanket and packs our belongings as I button my coverup. I recount the events that just happened. I may have been able to defend myself but this never would’ve happened if I could just tell that man to piss off. I feel the lump in my throat return. Squeezing the handle of my cane in my hand as I try to bite back my tears.
“All packed up” Asra's voice catches me off guard. He lightly places his hand on my arm and gives me a warm smile. “Hey, you didn't do anything wrong, that man had it coming it was unfortunate he had to face the wrath of MC the mighty warrior equipped with a cane and a fearless snake," Faust pokes her head out from my should and bleps her tongue out at me. I smile at Asra's encouraging words, but I don’t think he understands why I'm really upset. He leans down again so I can climb onto his back and he walks back to the streets setting me down once were on stable ground. Faust climbs from my shoulders and onto Asra's as I walk close to the docs looking for a gondola.
“Hey, I said we could walk home didn't I?” Asra smiles at me reminding me of our deal from this morning. I nod and follow him towards our shop. Our trek back home is quiet, it’s usually quiet due to my lack of speech ability, but it’s especially quiet as we walk along the cobblestone streets. The afternoon sun still illuminates the streets but it slowly falls behind the buildings as we go through the city.
“So you learned a new word today,” Asra catches my attention. Yea I guess I did, and with this new word comes me repeating it whenever possible so it sticks in my brain. I take a deep breath and stop in my tracks. Asra gives me a confused look.
“NOOO-” I yell as loud it as I can. My new word. Asra jumps and puts his hand over my mouth trying to stifle his laughter”
“Mc, please! People are gonna think you're being attacked” he whispers, laughing between words.
“Asra,” I muffle under his hand, poking him in the shoulder. We then hear feet rushing towards us.
“Guards!” Asra picks me uplifting me by the legs, practically throwing me over his shoulder, and my arms find his shoulders, anchoring me in place. He takes off running both of us giggling. Asra runs behind a building and sets me down, peeking around the corner to make sure we weren't followed. I don't understand why he ran, he simply could've explained the situation but I guess his mischievous nature got the best of him. He laughs between breaths. Turning to face me Asra puts his hands on his hips to scold me but his smiles betrays his stern persona.
“Why would you do that? You really are just attracting trouble wherever you go,” Asra's smile is warm. But he’s right. My inability to speak has now become a danger. If Asra could use magic to make me speak I would request it in an instant. But this is something I had to do for myself. I have to be determined and try my hardest. I fiddle with a loose button on my coverup, trying not to recount the panic that swelled in me because I couldn't ask the man to leave. Asra is now giving me a concerned look, I can see the sadness behind his eyes when he looks at me like that.
“I was only kidding MC, I don't think your THAT much of a trouble maker," his attempt at a joke makes the corners of my mouth upturn ever so slightly. "hey how about we get something to eat, maybe soooome” my heart flutters, is he gonna say what I think he is. He taps a finger to his chin pretending to ponder, smirking at the look I give him. “Pumpkin bread?” I nearly jump, nodding so quickly my head may roll off my shoulders. “Well then,” Asra puts his arm out for me to take “shall we?” I grab his arm and we walk toward the marketplace. —- My apprentice and I waltz through our neighborhood arms linked together, and I’m able to carry their weight and keep them balanced, so they rest their cane’s handle on their arm. I would be lying if I didn’t admit I was utterly terrified when I saw the event that took place. I also would be lying if I said I wasn’t proud that they defended themself, especially Faust. When I left them alone I exaggerated my instructions to her but she knew there was a sense of seriousness in my speech. We approach the stand of our favorite baker.
“Well if it isn't Asra and- oh you look a little worse for wear,” I look at our appearance, I guess we do look a little disheveled after our day, scaring off creeps and running from guards. Especially my friend on my arm, sand coating parts of their skin from earlier in the day. Their face still a little puffy from all their crying.
“I think we’re deserving of some tea and pumpkin bread,” the baker gives me a knowing look and turns to fetch us our treats, my apprentice lets go on my arm and steadies their stance with their cane.
“Tea,” they nod and walk over to their usual seat. I sit on the stairs next to their stool. The baker approaches us with two cups and hands us our own respective drinks. I take a sniff of the warm brew. It smells of berries and mint. Taking a long sip I feel my whole body relax. I see my apprentice let the stiffness of their body ease from the corner of my eye as well. The baker returns with two loaves of our favorite pumpkin bread and leans on a table looking us up and down.
“Seems you visited the beaches? Fun day?” My apprentice tenses once again. Taking a slow bite of their bread and nodding slowly. I quickly think of ways to change the subject.
“Yes, ahh yes I actually found quite a few seashells if you’d like to see,” I stand and reach into my pockets pulling out all the shells I collected from the beach and placing them on the table for the baker to peruse. We converse back and forth trying to determine which shell belongs to which sea creature. I can see my apprentice from the corner of my eye, they continue to eat their bread in silence looking down. I can tell they don’t want to be asked about our day. I won't dare ask them to tell me what exactly happened today, but I feel that they are shaken up about more than just what happened. That's when I hear it though. Their small voice uttering something. The baker and I turn towards them in awe as they attempt to speak.
“Puh... pump... kin brrr... brrread,” they look up at us beaming eyes misty. Then they open their mouth again. “Thhh... hank.... yyy- yyyou” I look over at the baker, we come here often so he knows of my apprentice's situation, he wipes a stray tear from his eye and smiles back at them.
“You are very welcome,” the warmness in my heart flutters. Seeing them improve fills me with pride, and it brings me even more joy to see them smile, my dear, kind, friendly apprentice.

————————————————
The late October day looked perfect for a walk along the beach, collecting seashells and watching seagulls soar the sky in the distance. Solitary boats broke the horizon, far far away, the lighthouse culminating the long walk and protecting the bay a few kilometres ahead of you. The sun was coming through the clouds here and there, creating amusing patterns on the sand just barely slightly moved by the wind. A man was playing fetch with a golden retriever and along the seashore you could see more people making good use of one of the last good days before autumn finally started giving way to winter.
The scenery was relaxing, liberating your mind from all the stress your job continuously put you through. Some days you even dared ask yourself if the slightly fatter paycheck was really worth your mental health.
Spending your health on earning money sounded stupid most of the days. Nevertheless, you somehow managed to keep loving your job, even when the cons heavily outweigh the pros.
A chill song was playing through your earbuds, and with a cloud momentarily hiding the sun, the lightest raindrops began to fall. You didn’t let the thin drizzle scare you and decided to keep walking, the lighthouse too tempting in its romantic solitude.
Stubborn and maybe ignorant, you persevered, though most people had already run to the middle of the bay, where most people had parked their cars or had found refuge in one of the local pubs and cafés. Only a couple people walked ahead of you, going all the way to the end of the walk, where the pier led to your destination.
You followed it like a compass, like the North Star, even when the drizzle turned in rain, even when you had to hold your coat over your head for the last two hundred metres, running desperately once the rain turned in an autumn shower.
You thanked all the gods once you reached the small awning protecting the entrance to the lighthouse, a lovely bell announcing the opening of the door.
“Hold on, wait there!” A man called from the counter. “Lemme grab something for you!” he mumbled, disappearing behind the dark wood countertop and reemerging with a plaid blanket. “Wait there,” he said, walking towards you quickly and taking your raincoat with a kind smile, hanging it out of harm’s way, where it could drip on the floor without causing anyone to slip and fall.
“Welcome to The Bow, you brave traveller!” the barman greeted you, immediately warming up your soul before offering you the blanket and letting you warm your body. “Please, sit where you prefer, I’ll let you take a look at the menu and then I’ll come collect your order.”
He bowed his head slightly, your eyes suddenly focusing on how low the wooden ceiling was, and how lean his physique was, heavily contrasted by his large shoulders, emphasised by the white and blue stripes of his sweater.
You walked to a table beside the counter, near the window that ran all around the circular room. The sky was clear in the distance, the boats still navigating peacefully while the coast had become hostage to the sudden storm, which had crept in slowly and then swiftly attacked.
You stared in the distance for a while longer, the man at the counter waiting patiently and cheerfully for you to get comfortable, leaf through the menu and close it before turning to him with a kind smile — which you eventually did, causing an unexpected effect, an entire flock of butterflies taking flight in his stomach.
He was drawn to you immediately.
“So what can I bring you?” he asked with the most courteous of smiles.
You giggled. The man was very handsome, but something in the air that surrounded him made him even warmer and more fascinating, as if compelling you to be kind and keep your eyes on him. “First, let me thank you for the blanket,” you said, holding it tighter around you.
“Oh, it’s okay. We keep those for old couples who come here for fall and winter walks. They tend to get cold on their legs. And some ladies want to wear pretty clothes on dates but then get cold once the sun goes down. Don’t worry, I wash them after use!” he clarified before you could get uncomfortable.
“That’s so considerate!” you exclaimed, honestly touched at such a kind thought.
“What can I say, I care about customer care,” he chuckled embarrassed, his laugh so unique and funny that you couldn’t help but join.
“I’m ____, by the way.”
“I’m Seokjin,” he introduced himself politely.
“Happy to meet you,” you replied with an interested smile. “May I order an Orange Spiced Hot Chocolate?”
“Yes, sure. Would you like some cinnamon on it?” he asked, twice as interested in pleasing his special customer.
“Uhm… No, just a plain one, thanks,” you confirmed, watching him leave with a quick step.
“Do you have many people coming all the way here?” you asked, your table close enough to the counter that you could chat with the man without having to disturb the other customers.
“Normally we do. There’s always a big rush in summer. Some people go to the beach and come all the way here to have lunch or grab a cold drink before going back. It’s mostly couples, or families with kids. On a summer day you’d have to wait for a table and book one for lunch or dinner. When it gets colder, some people still come here, but it’s slower. I prefer it. Winter weekends are the ideal match of calm and good money.”
You nodded. “I think it’s my first time here. I visited the town four or five years ago but I don’t remember this place.”
Seokjin nodded, the cocoa maker making a bit of a ruckus as it warmed up the milk. It lasted around two or three minutes before the café went quiet again “Yes, that’s because I opened the café two years ago, almost three.”
“This is your place?” You asked, quite amused.
“Indeed. My grandpa loved it here. He always came here with my grandma for walks. He didn’t have the money to buy the place but he wanted to open a restaurant here. My grandmother loved cooking.” Seokjin gave a gentle but sad smile. “When she left us, he gave up. He always says it was their dreams, together, and he would never do it by himself. So I made it my dream.”
The blue vibe faded and a radiant expression sparked up his features. “I must say that for now it’s been going pretty well.”
He walked to your table, your drink, sugar and a couple smaller bottles all balanced on a tray on his hand.
As he stood beside you, his head slightly lowered to avoid the lamp above, he placed down a cup coaster with a vintage lifebuoy ring drawn on it, protecting the beautiful wooden table below.
On the small placemat running across the table, he placed three tiny bottles. “Sugar, cinnamon and cocoa. To your liking.” He offered you a soft grin.
Hesitantly, you looked around again. He had only four or five people around and your table was close to the counter.
You licked your lips as you gathered all your courage and spoke. “Would you like to sit down and chat? I’d like to get to know you, you seem a very interesting person.” You felt heat radiate from your cheeks in stark contrast with the cold crawling through your bones.
Seokjin’s reaction was lovely.
His mouth curled up in a lovely pout, a small surprised ‘o’. His eyes went impossibly wide and so, so round and adorable before his suddenly pale face exploded in a technicoloured blush that expanded all the way to his ears.
And then he smiled the tiniest, most innocent smile. He didn’t show his teeth, just his rosy, plush lips curving up in an expression that was half hamster, half alpaca.
And the apples of his cheeks became impossibly round and squishable.
You felt your heart shot across your chest like a crazy bouncy ball, playing pinball inside your rib cage.
Joy filled your every blood vessel.
“Sure, I’d love to sit down and chat for a bit.”

hello!! i hope ur having a good day :)
my initials are s.f and i’m a cancer sun and aquarius rising!
1. will i accomplish my dreams and goals i have set for the next year?
2. am i on this journey of my dreams and goals by myself or with others?
3. am i on the right path with singing and dancing, will i be successful and get opportunities that will benefit me?
thank you sm for this i have been having a hard time recently so hopefully this can give me the motivation and clarity to keep going!
Hello dear and thank you both for asking me to read for you and for your patience. It's my honor to be able to provide you with answers.
First of all, there is a calm, protective energy around you, or already in your energy field right now, it's very soothing and warm. I don't know who or what it's there, but blue, in light shades and the sea, might be relevant either to you or this presence. For your reading, I've chosen the Silver witchcraft tarot deck and the Energy oracle cards.
Let's start with your first question. I'm using one of my pendulums for this: your answer is yes but it will take some time. The pendulum was unsure at first, I think there are things that you have to ponder very well before springing into action but a positive outcome is sure to be if you keep moving like you are right now. I don't feel any particular obstacles either but I'm sensing a very action-oriented person and that needs to incorporate also a bit of thinking before going out there.
For your second question we are going to hear about my tarot deck, your cards are:
0, The Fool and 9, The Hermit.
It might seem that you are journey solo and that's all about it. To tell you the truth I feel a very refreshing energy in those cards, there is a part of your journey to be walked just by yourself, alone, because it will lead to a beautiful beginning, in which you will find souls that are just like you and your bright light will almost attract them to you, then your road will welcome many others, I feel from different walks of life and countries, and somehow, you will find yourself a chosen family, someone who will support and walk with you. There is a period of solitude involved at the beginning of this big adventure and you are asked to not feel like it's a punishment rather to be a moment to really get to know yourself and appreciate your time. Find safety in the little domestic things, in the everyday life, it's another tip that I'm channeling for you. Have some rituals for yourself only, a cup of coffee or tea, time to look outside the window in the morning, a walk around the block, things like that will make you in tune with your own rhythm and make this period of waiting, solitude and deep transformation more light and easy. Remember that you already have all that you need to take the "road", don't worry about the rest, and be yourself as much as possible. Your authenticity is now the most important thing to work on.
For your last question, we will hear from the Energy Oracle deck:
6, Contract, 24, Adjacent possibilities and 35, first chakra, Archangel Michael.
Do you have your eyes set on a particular academy, or planning to audition for a label? If so, do it, the contract card is quite a positive answer to your overall question. You seem to have found your way, your biggest passions and by following this path you will open up so many possibilities for yourself! There might be a proposition of a different kind after you made your mind on your career, I'm feeling that this will be more likely a test but it will bring you much respect and a very good reputation in your field. There is much grace in how you will be able to handle this big proposition, your stability, both material, physical and mental is tied to how determined you will be in the near future to grasp the opportunities that are coming to you. They will come and are a handful too! Deepen your craft and at the same time expand your horizons. Why I am feeling that someone is scared to try new styles or tackle a different song, that might not be in their vocal range? Do it, challenge yourself, it's a breakthrough waiting for you to do the first step. There is so much waiting for you, please don't doubt yourself anymore! If anything a little advice for you: read very well your contracts and don't be afraid to stand up for yourself if something doesn't seem right, this too will contribute to giving you a very good name in your chosen career. I feel that you already are thinking to spring into action and that you just need a little push, so be it: take that first leap of faith, it's worthy.
Once again I'm deeply sorry for sending this reading so late, but I hope that it will find you in a better situation and help you in some way. Thank you again for trusting me!

I’m relieved beyond words to see that the current drama hasn’t affected you! You and the other writer involved are my two favorite people on here! I can’t wait to be a cheerleader for whatever story you post next! 🖤
Thank you so much, that's really encouraging and delightful to hear ❤️❤️
It's affected me in the sense that I'm truly saddened that some of my dear friends have been hurt by the setting of the fic. I completely understand and support their feelings and their right to express what they and others are experiencing. It's the minimum of human decency and compassion, I would say. Not to mention that some of these people are incredibly dear and important to me.
However, I cannot participate in the persecution and vilifying of another friend.
Any positive outcome in the form of building bridges, educating and expanding horizons is defeated when the loudest voices and the heaviest emphasis is on decrying a person, attributing motive even after they provide clarification and offer an apology, and issuing strict steps to follow to atone for the situation in the right way, with the right words before their authority sanctions their return to the community.
I don't personally think that is a productive way to communicate.
It's not easy to react when on the one hand, important issues are brought up and you want to stand up for what you believe is right, but the way this specific situation was framed and handled was profoundly disingenuous and unfair on the part of the people doing the callouts. To be clear, not any of the people who expressed their hurt and dismay, which they are in the right to feel.
Meanwhile, when the dust settles and all the social brownie points for reblogging the right thing at the right time are scooped up, the fandom falls back on the same patterns and continues to do the same things that hurt the same people who are trying to communicate their feelings and experiences now. Which is something that I and other people who pay attention to what our friends say know very well and work to rectify with the content we share.
And that content will continue to come, and my friendship will remain offered to anyone who communicates in good faith.
