“So… you’re really breaking up with me?” Zuko asked again.
“I mean, I guess. We don’t need this anymore, don’t you think?”
Zuko was more confused than upset. And wasn’t ‘we don’t need this anymore’ an odd thing to say about ending a relationship?
He looked back at Mai across the sofa they sat on, confusion still showing on his face. He could see a hint of exasperation beginning to make its way into her expression. They’d been having this conversation for a while already.
“I just… aren’t things going well?”
“Zuko,” Mai sighed and placed a hand on his shoulder, “You’re like my best friend.”
“Right, so..?”
“Not. A boyfriend?” She raised an eyebrow, hoping Zuko would be able to fill in the blanks.
Zuko knew his relationship with Mai wasn’t… typical. They didn’t kiss much anymore and had never even thought of doing anything beyond that, but it… worked… He valued their companionship.
“I just… why now?” He thought it was a fair question.
Mai huffed and stood up, turning to face him.
“Honestly, Zuko. I didn’t think this was going to be such a big deal. I just thought maybe we were both ready to move on. The world’s changed since you became Fire Lord, and I thought maybe it would be safe now for us to…”
Zuko blinked at her, still making it quite clear he had no idea what was going on.
“Look,” Mai sighed, sitting down to face Zuko on the sofa opposite his, “We aren’t in love, Zuko. We never have been.”
He sputtered, wanting desperately to protest, but finding he needed a moment to think about it. He did love Mai, definitely. He always would, just like he loved Azula. Being with Mai had always made sense…
“Zuko,” Mai pushed, “We’ve never been in love, right?”
“Maybe not…?” he admitted.
“It’s fine,” she waved her hand. “I don’t take it personally. I know you’re not interested in women.”
Zuko sputtered again. What? Of course he was… why wouldn’t he…?
“What?” he whispered. The truth was he’d never really thought about it.
“Zu. It’s fine. In case you haven’t figured it out, I’m not into guys either. That’s what I thought this whole relationship was about, actually.”
Zuko didn’t say anything. This was a lot to process.
Mai seemed to understand, sitting quietly until he was ready to talk.
“So…” he finally managed, “You’ve always…?”
“Yeah. It took me a while to figure it out, but definitely.”
“So you think if we break up now we could…?”
“No offense Zuko, but I’d much rather be with Ty Lee than stuck in whatever this is with you. I think we’re ready for it now. And you and Sokka—“
“WHAT?”
Mai sighed and put her head into her hands, staying like that for a moment while Zuko tried to figure out what the fuck was going on.
“Agni, Zuko. Sorry. I didn’t think any of this was new information to you,” she sat up and looked directly into Zuko’s eyes, “Yes, dumbass. The whole Nation knows at this point that boy is in love with you. He’s not exactly subtle about it. And everyone besides you seems to have the idea that you love him back.”
“But I’m not even…” Zuko was learning a lot about himself tonight, apparently. Could he be in love with Sokka?
He thought about it.
They were just friends, right?
Thought about the happiness that filled his heart every time he entered a room Sokka was in.
Good friends…
About the natural ease with which they spoke with and spent time together.
Close friends…
How he thought of his friendship with Sokka very similarly to how he thought of his relationship with Mai.
…Best… friends?
The desire that had crossed his mind on more than one occasion, which he’d tryed and failed to lock away completely, to grab, caress, kiss Sokka. But thoughts like that were normal every once in a while, right? Everyone had them. Except… he had them for Sokka more than he ever had with Mai…
“Oh shit…” he whispered, “I’m…”
“An idiot,” Mai finished for him.
That was not was Zuko was going to say, but he let it slide.
“I think we gotta break up,” he said instead.

I'm thinking about Azula's attempt at tricking Zuko and Iroh to come back home and the horrible things she says to him in the episode. And like, I obviously don't have to say that Zuko didn't deserve that shit before I continue my next thoughts
But I personally, Azula's aggression makes me think "resentment"
I don't buy into the "she's evil so she said it to be evil"
It didn't seem like the kind of moment she'd look back on to laugh about, because while Azula definitely enjoys messing with Zuko, I don't feel it ever really looked like that unless she was slipping (much like after Mai and Ty Lee betrayed her)
I just headcanon she resented Zuko for being banished because Ozai had both them convinced it was Zukos fault. With Zuko not around to take the brunt of their fathers negative attention, Azula got it more often
And I wouldn't even say that Ozai blew off steam at her. Because it would be far more calculating than that, he just made her think that's what he was doing. Really, Ozai would've been breaking her down from just the favourite child who needs his praise, to the only child, who will be discarded and all affection withdrawn from her if she falls short of any standards he sets
Zuko being banished marked the acceleration of her adultification and isolation. Zuko still acted like a kid when he was 13, but Azula doesn't at 14, that tells you a lot
And of course maybe it started when Ursa was banished and Zuko was left with no one on his side in the Palace while Ozai groomed Azula into his mini me
But I do headcanon that Zukos banishment was the big push to isolating Azula fully and focusing on bending her to being only a weapon
And Ozai has Azula resenting Zuko, because while she's so smart and cunning, she's only been fed the stories she can imagine
That's my headcanon anyway. Azula resents Zuko for being banished because she ended up alone, and deep down, she knew something was very dark and off about her life at that point. There was just a cognitive disconnect on why it was all so miserable because she was getting all their fathers attention, and that's what Azula thought she wanted

Hey, I really love your observations about the post war order the Gaang developed. I always thought that it would have made a lot more sense, and have made a much better story, had Azula acted as a key shaper of said order. Like, maybe after the war she was set free and became one of Zuko's key advisors, working to secure Fire Nation interests and ensure her nation avoid all responsibility for their part in the war, recasting herself as a champion of Republic City's independence.
okay well i know we love to joke about how dumb zuko is but in what world would zuko allow that. his whole thing (in canon at least, we ignore the c*mics) is that he, as a symbol of the harm both done by and to him, must become firelord to directly take responsibility for the fire nation’s crimes, and his role postwar is to atone for his family’s sins. there’s no way he would just allow azula to undo that work??? obviously she’s a lot more manipulative than he is, but he’s also predisposed to be antagonistic towards her so there’s no way he’d fall for that shit. and there’s especially no way that sokka, toph, suki, aang, or katara, mai, or ty lee would fall for that shit!!! azula is probably the last person who could’ve gotten away with securing the fire nation’s privileges after the war.
I also don’t think that she should, but im also a proponent of zuzu redemption 2: electric boogaloo, the long grueling road towards undoing her cognitive dissonance. like i honestly think that one theory going around while lok book 2 was airing, that she becomes a fire nation shaman and healer who tends to herds of sky bison on a remote island, is actually really sweet. sure, it would take a very long time for her to get there, but even just in spirit, i want her to rest and heal and spend her life helping people in peace and tranquility. the idea that she grows up to help the avatar is really cute to me. but actually, your question isn’t really about azula at all.
here’s the thing. if you do buy the state of the avatar-world is as lok implies, i think its easiest to assume that although they had good intentions, the gaang failed in their vision of postwar reconstruction rather than made it that way. a confluence of material forces shaped the world in such a way that was out of aang&co’s control. but also, taking a materialist-pessimist approach is kind of bleak to me, because i like to think that the avatar would have more influence in such a world, especially considering his role in ending the war. not that he can control everything (the fc yee novels do a great job of illustrating the lack of control any one figure has over the state of the world, even provided they’re the avatar). so ultimately i think that assessing lok as an extension of atla must necessarily require acknowledging the ways in which the canon conflicts both politically and thematically, and not attempting to explain every inconsistency through in-universe justifications, but rather to simply admit that the writing was flawed.

Hi @juniperhillpatient !
I wanted to give a brief review of chapter IX in “the devil you know”.
Welp, if there was ever any doubt that Katara was just as insane as her girlfriend, that has officially been laid to rest… those two are perfect for each other. I’m also hoping we get to see Azula dawn the ghost face mask and save Katara’s life in turn. She deserves it for all the shit she’s been through! Then the two them can ride off into the sunset. Maybe, more probably if they survive that might be allowed to share the same jail cell by the police.
I love those two. Oddly, the ending of the chapter lightened my heart. Though that’s in preparation for the rollercoaster of darkness next chapter. Only Azula and Katara would be crazy enough to make out, outside a police station where Katara had just killed the sheriff. I’m also glad to see the glimpse into how much the girls love/obsess over one another. Azula contemplating killing Zuko and then herself if she is truly involved In the murders. While Katara won’t even entertain that thought of Azula’s guilt and decided to kill to free her. An overwhelming obsessive love. You love to see it!
Of the killers, I think I like either Sokka or Suki for one of them. Their vibes, are just off. Plus their conversation reminds of a scene in one of the Sam Carpenter films. Where the killer and another character were both pointing fingers at each other…
I think Ty Lee might be the other killer, if my theory about her survival is right. Of course, that might imply that Mai is the other Killer.
I hope the killer isn’t Kiyi, but I guess we’ll see. She been very conveniently spared whenever the killer appears. Or maybe the killer has qualms about killing a kid. You sounds think so, but stranger things have happened. Of course, Jet has also been suspiciously attacked in non-vital areas.
I don’t think either Zuko, or Azula are the killers. It would be too inconvenient.
Which leads me to wonder, Katara offed Zhao in a proficient manner in this chapter, what if this whole time, she has had similar blackouts to Azula. We’re she’s losing time of herself and her doings. Only for Sokka to take advantage of her semi conscious state. What if the Water sibs were the killers the whole time?
Either way, I’m looking forward to the next chapter. It looks to be a blast!
Ps:
But I’m also supremely hoping that Azula and Katara both survive and take down their foes. Kiyi too, her older half sisters would be good… role models for her. And with Azula inheriting Ozai’s fortune, she, Katara, and Kiyi could move anywhere in the country.
And Kiyi’s older half sisters dating In front of her, has got to be less weird to her than before. She’s also “rooting for” Katara to win Azula’s love (I think she said so in Chapter VIII?) me too Kiyi, me too.
Thank you for the ask! ❤️
I’m glad you enjoyed the chapter & the theories on the killers identify & the way chapter 10 will play out… wow! Interesting interesting 🤔
I suppose you’ll see sooner than later if you’re right to be sus of Sokka & or Suki 😉
The scene of the killers accusing each other - you might be thinking of Richie & Amber in the hospital on Scream 5!
I love all the speculation thank you for sharing ☺️

Avatar Ty Lee AU: The Ba Sing Se arc. I really want to hear heroic Azula use her greatest line: Don't flatter yourself. You were never even a player.
Oh boy oh boy.
So like. This. This takes up like half of Book 2 and also just.....
I debated on this for a while. But since in Canon, Azula was Book 2's main antagonist and still a threat in Book 3, but she's a Hero in the AU, I had to figure out how to replace what she does. I debated about generic things of random Fire Nation people and not focusing on any one person...
But in the end it works better if I create an OC to replace Azula as the antagonist.
And said OC got..... she got away from me.
I called her Noriko which is very ironic given that the comics exist and she really is this AU's Harley Quinn and yes that implies things that I am intending to imply.
Noriko: "Capturing the Avatars and my Fiance's traitorous family? What a perfect wedding gift, don't you think? Only thing better would be kicking off the honeymoon with your execution!"
Zuko and Azula: "Hold on you're gonna have to give me a hot minute to process all that what the FUCK?!?!"
Noriko first shows up in 'The Chase', comes back for 'The Drill' and then of course ends up pulling the whole coup situation but that goes slightly different.
I'll come back to that though.
So when everyone first gets to Ba Sing Sae, the Fire Nation kids pick up quick on 'Oh this is some propaganda shit!'. Which means they know to play by the rules and leave the Dai Li alone until they have more to go on.
Iroh still somehow ends up opening the tea shop because I can't have him not do that!
And then there's Jet. Boy....
Ofc they ran into him last book and that was a trainwreck. So he's just jumping right to where he's attacking them and accusing them of shit.
And Toph goes 'who the hell....????' because she is the only one who never met him. And the rest of the Gaang just pulls a gaslight gatekeep girlboss and pretends 'what? we don't know you? Why are you yelling at us?'.
He gets arrested and they /kinda/ feel bad but.... can't really do much.
While our other new characters get their own stories in 'The Tales of Ba Sing Sae', the only one I'll talk about right now is this version of Zuko's because yes he does still go on that date with Jin! And so does Sokka. Because polyship. And they're like 'Hey there's also another girl Suki but she's off doing her own shit right now we'll talk about that later!'. So yeah Zuko/Sokka/Suki/Jin is the endgame ship here.
Speaking of Suki, since Noriko is a grown ass woman and can't disguise herself as the Kyoshi Warriors, Suki does not get captured!
Also while the Gaang gives Jin half-truths about who they are, she figures out some stuff. Like that half of them are Fire Nation. But she assumes they're just defecting from the country not. Ya know. Kinda important.
Anyway! Back to Jet!
THey're all sus as hell when he shows up acting nice and just skip to figuring out the brainwashing. So they figure out the whole Lake Logai thing. They go down and they get Appa back my baby!!!
I am actually letting Jet live in this AU! But this whole situation is a slap to his black-and-white mentality. The Firebenders are the ones who saved him after Earthbenders kidnapped, brainwashed, and tried to kill him. He doesn't join the main Gaang because there's a lot of history there and he needs to sort some shit out. But he does gather his old group again and agree that, no matter what, the War needs to end and the Fire Lord needs to be stopped.
Now! Telling the Earth King about all this shit goes down similar to Canon! But the Gaang all splitting up for a bit happens differently.
Both Sokka and Katara go off to see their dad. Ty Lee and Aang got that info about the Guru and the Avatar State so they go look into that. Mai offers to go with Toph because she knows that no matter how much you say you're fine, confronting your 'shitty yet caring' parents is hard.
Iroh, Zuko and Azula stay in Ba Sing Sae and deal with the Earth King.
Suki actually does show up as she wasn't captured earlier, which means Zuko can introduce her to Jin and they hit it off well!
Of course everything goes to shit. Because Noriko's way into the city was through disguising herself and a handful of her soldiers as refugees being let in. She had laid low for a while, but heard about the drama with the Dai Li and strikes a deal.
While most of the Gaang are elsewhere, she and her group attack the city, with the Dai Li helping her. Zuko, Suki, and Jin do get captured at this point and sent to the Crystal Catacombs and Zuko just has to explain the stuff he left out when talking with Jin before.
Zuko: "So...... you probably noticed I was Firebending during that fight…"
Jin: "I already knew that part. I'm not an idiot. You can't light a bunch of lanterns that quickly without Firebending. But why did the crazy lady ask you where the Avatars are??"
Zuko: "Uh… That'd be Ty Lee and Aang."
Jin: "Okay. Okay you probably should've mentioned that. But I can handle it! Is there anything else I should know?"
Zuko: "..... My father is the Fire Lord? We're going to kick his ass but I think that's relevant."
Jin: "I'm… I'm just going to lay down and contemplate my life. Goodnight!"
Now! Back to Noriko's take over! We have that 'you weren't even a player' scene where the Dai Li is torn between following her or Long Feng. But while Azula is here for intimidating powermoves, Noriko has no issue killing the competition. She might still do the powermove though because that's also fun for her but she does totally kill the fucker.
A lot of the actual fight goes the same. Though no Avatar State is used. Ty Lee does get zapped with lightning thanks to Noriko though, and Iroh lets himself get captured to buy a few minutes for everyone to escape.
On the bright side, Ty Lee is doing a bit better than Canon!Aang had with the lightning thanks to not having been in the Avatar State. And they also have Suki and Jin still with them!

Mai's little "fear" for Azula
Mai's fear for Azula is confusing asf to me. Because it barely exist. Or at the very least it didn't get enough screentime. 1) She was bored out of her mind which is exactly she agreed to join Azula on quest. She was genuinely happy to see her and even showed physical affection. She joined her voluntarily. 2̶̶̶ ̶b̶u̶t̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶l̶l̶y̶)̶̶̶ In "Return to Omashu" episode she showed like no emotion of hesitation to call off the deal and surrender her own brother to the enemy unlike Ty Lee who was actually scared of what Azula might do to her during her performance at the circus. I think it's possible that Mai actually somewhat trusted Azula to handle the situation and to have all Bumi, Tom-tom and the avatar in their hands. But I could be wrong. Regardless, if Azula really scared Mai so much that she cut off the deal of rescuing her own little brother, they should have at least animated a few seconds of doubt on Mai's face. Instead, they animated her frown/being stone-faced as she looked at her brother. IDK if that was supposed to be an actual hesitation/fear/inner conflict within Mai, but just saying that personally when I first watched this scene, I genuinely thought that Mai either didn't give a shit about her brother or believed that the situation would turn to their favor and they would eventually fight off both Bumi and Tom-tom. Did Mai really did that out of fear of what Azula might do to her and her family if she had refused or what? I need someone to tell me. I'll accept being stupid enough not to notice something so obvious if that's the case.
2) In "The Drill" episode she refused to jump down into the muddy pipeline to chase and capture team avatar. And in the end of the episode Mai emerges from one of the hatches completely dry in front of soaked Azula and Ty Lee and casually announces the two that they lost. Like... as if she knew that even if Azula figures out that she disobeyed her and let the gaang get away just becasue she didn't want to get muddy, Azula won't do anything to her. 3) In "The Beach" episode When Azula analyzed the reasons for Mai's lack of emotions, Mai wasn't afraid to call her out on her bs and shout at her to leave her alone. She wasn't just Azula's subordinate but also her friend. So as her friend, not as a subordinate, she basically told her to stfu already 4) And last but not least her famous 'I love Zuko more than I fear you.' I've said it before and I'll say it again. If it was Ty Lee or someone from Mai's family on that gandola, she would have done the same thing, she would betray Azula no questions asked. The sitation with Tom-tom was different. He was in captivity but Mai must have known/trusted Azula that even if they cut off the deal, his life wouldn't be threatened, they would extract him eventually. But if it was her two-year-old brother who could have been boiled to death, trust me when I say Mai would have done everything so that he could escape even if it meant her death. This is not to say that Mai has never feared Azula in her life at all. Their relationship was toxic and far from perfect. I'm just saying that she fears her way less than the fandom likes to believe. And if I was supposed to be conviced that Mai actually canonically fears Azula as much as the fandom thinks she does, then the show did a poor job portraying it.
***
Everything you said is spot on, ESPECIALLY about Mai having joined Azula willingly - the fandom loves to pretend she coerced into it like Ty Lee was even though we see that wasn't what happened (and that Ty only said no because she was happy at the circus, not because she had a problem with war or helping Azula capture her own family).
Honestly, while Mai was obviously afraid of Azula on some level, the emotion I always felt was the ticking bomb that would make their relationship crumble at any second was anger. She was indignant when she was expected to just jump on the mud (and before that she made it cler she was bored out of her mind waiting in the drill, which isn't how one usually talks to royalty when they're afraid of getting killed by them), gave Azula an angry glare in The Headband, straight up yelled at her in The Beach, and finally looked furious at the boiling rock.
She liked Azula, so naturally it must have hurt that there (seemingly) she would always be her princess/a loyal agent of the Fire Lord before being her friend. So again, the fear IS there, but the righteous fury is the evidence that something was wrong with their relationship.

ok so guys, remember that “my father always says azula was born lucky, i was lucky to be born” line? yeah, now explain to me why tf are we even considering OZAIs words?!?! like some people use this line as an argument against azula when its literally what OZAI SAID?!?!!?!!?!
Zuko’s good and bad luck, as well as Azulas. Was either of them lucky? Let’s see.
Please read all of it before drawing assumptions.
Zuko’s luck:
- has mums care and affection
- has irohs care and affection
- can get away with being a softie as a child, because he may get disregarded and called weak but lets be honest, azula wouldnt have been able to get away with his behavior because she didn’t have firstborn privilege (which is a thing while azulon lived) or mummy’s protection like he did.
before anyone comes at me i’ll expand a bit on the firstborn privilege. as first born he was instantly considered more important by the masses since birth, that might’ve changed later but before neither could bend that much was still a fact. which means azula wouldn’t really have any recognition for anything unless she surpassed him in every way, which is what became her goal especially when ozai became the one who spent more time with her rather than ursa, anyways lets continue.
- constantly receiving second chances; iroh, the gaang minus katara, katara, azula (even if not from the “good” side), ozai (no matter the intentions, this much is true), iroh again, mai, the entire fckng world.
- he had a guide and help throughout his long healing and learning process.
Zuko’s bad luck:
- Unloving father
- Mummy disappears
- Doesn’t train that hard and surprise surprise, is worse than azula. Because if he had really trained hard, he would’ve at least known the formations wether he was able to firebend with them or not, but he was just clearly trying to copycat azula while tripping over because he didn’t have that much experience doing it. This is something no one can change my mind about. How tf did he expect to excel if he didn’t train enough. This wasnt about luck but hard work which he didn’t put in, too busy playing with mum and the little turtleducks. And I do not hate Zuko, I really love him but this is just a fact and he’s too fixed on blaming everyone else for his own mistakes and problems (esp Azula). Like, im sorry to break it out to you honey, but Ozai hates you because he’s an asshole, and that’s his own fault, not Azula’s.
- Scar and exile time, we all know this.
- Ugly haircut because of dishonor
- Finally achieving his goal of regaining his “honor” but realizing it wasn’t what he wanted only when he was already at the Fire Nation palace having all the glory from Aang’s presumed death.
- Katara’s distrust after his betrayal (bc who would’ve expected that to happen /s)
- Getting zapped in an attempt to save Katara.
I mean except for the things related to Ozai, most of this was all consequences from his own actions.
And I’m sorry but I don’t understand the fixation he has with having Ozai’s love. Unlike Azula, he has had his mother’s love and his uncle’s love. He knows what real love looks like and he has never really seen anything that could imply Ozai likes him, while he has Iroh treating him like he’s his actual father.
I’m not invalidating his traumas in any way and terrible things did happen to him, but why is he so obsessed with Ozai and why would he choose him over Iroh, he’s 16 and has been with Iroh since age 13, he was also with Ursa for the majority of his childhood, make it make sense.
Azula’s luck:
- Uh she was born rlly smart i guess
- She had some natural talent and knew to train hard to shape it to perfection, as well as studying a lot about war tactics and shit ig
- Ty Lee and Mai loved her and she loved them back
I mean as far as luck goes, that’s it. Everything else was achieved on her own merit and even if she had no scar, her traumas are just as valid as Zuko’s, neither is worse or better, we do not compare traumas in this house and they were both terrible.
Azula’s bad luck:
- Bad mother (i’ll make a post on why Ursa sucks)
- No second chances
- Mum never said goodbye just like she never said “i love you” lol, except in that one hallucination
- Never has had any real help to heal (i’ll make a post on why the asylum was a trash idea that would’ve never worked)
- Can’t fully trust anyone, not even herself, or will be punished for it
- The only people who loved her, Mai and Ty Lee, “betraying” her (check out my post on that, its under #jinta’s commentary)
- Ozai psychologically abusing her all her life
- Some characters may have been lonely, but she was genuinely absolutely alone. And she knew it.
- Hurt and self-hatred channeled through anger like Zuko did sometimes when he had that shame shave ponytail, but with her, its all the time.
- Even his abuser abandons her
- Everyone hates her but forgives Zuko, Mai and Ty Lee. And it’s so annoying because all Mailee did that Azula didn’t was swap sides almost at the end, if the excuse is that they were being manipulated well Ozai was manipulating Azula so what’s the excuse.
- Is always believed to be lying but usually isn’t (check out my azula always lies post)
- Has a mental breakdown and nobody gives a shit?! Like the first think Zuko thought of was “ooh she’s slipping lemme take advantage of that”
- Has nothing and no one, yay
- Gets thrown into a stupid asylum but not rlly because there are no comics in ba sing se
While Zuko had Ursa and Iroh to protect him and stuff, she was victim of Ozai’s manipulation and psychological abuse all her life.
So when we know Ozai said she was lucky, why tf is anyone taking his word for it??!
Plus when Zuko was born they didn’t know how he would be and Azula didn’t exist so there was no way he could’ve been lucky to be born.
Zuko was very unlucky, but he was also lucky.
Azula was just unlucky.
edit: as bellatrixobsessed1 said, azula had the illusion of luck.

warnings: oral (male receiving), jealous Jeno, mentions of drunk sex, Jeno in those tight pants skaters wear 😭
Tumblr media
“Watcha looking at?”
Jeno jolted, his eyes abandoning the pair of skaters practicing in the ice-rink. Just as he stopped watching, he heard a loud thud. You were laying down on your back, your partner sprinting towards your giggly figure.
“Are you alright?” He helped you up, his hand holding your waist naturally. “Stop laughing, you could’ve gotten yourself hurt.”
“I’ve fallen so many times that it doesn’t even hurt anymore, Jaems.” Jeno’s blood boiled at the name. You wouldn’t even call him by his name, while your partner had the privilege of having his very own nickname. “Let’s practice the death spiral.”
Jeno’s partner looked at him with curiosity, she’d never seen that look in his face before.
“Don’t tell me you’re planning on switching partners.” Jeno shook his head, tearing his gaze off You to finish tying his skates.
“Never, I was just studying our competition.” Right after finishing his task, he extended his hand towards his friend. “We need to practice hard, we’re only a few days away from the competition.”
You didn’t even spare him a glance as they entered the rink, too focused on finding the perfect way to hold Jaemin’s hand.
“Okay, we’ve got this.” You high fived him, getting in position to start your routine all over again. “Hey, Lee! Quit staring at us.” Apparently, you had taken notice of his gaze.
“I wasn’t!” The slight blush in his cheeks said otherwise. “Ignore them, Irene.”
As much as Jeno considered training with you in the same rink a blessing, you seemed to despise him. Maybe it was because of that time he called you untalented when he was a teen, or maybe it was because of that time he left the morning after having drunk sex with you, but who knows.
Nationals were held a couple of days later. Thankfully, you didn’t have to travel anywhere this year.
You cheerfully greeted all of the people you’d met during the past competitions, wishing them luck as Jaemin called you out to get ready.
You dressed in the beautiful black dress with small diamonds around your sleeves, Jaemin wearing a matching outfit, the tight shirt making his chest and shoulders look broader. You were both provided with a thick coat to cover you from the ice rink’s cold.
“You ready?” You went out of the dressing rooms, holding his hand tightly.
“We’re gonna do amazing.”
As you waited for another pair to finish their routine, a handsome Lee Jeno approached you.
“Ready to lose?” You scoffed, looking at him in disbelief. “What? There’s no way you’re gonna win against us.”
“May I remind you who won a golden medal last year?” Now it was his turn to scoff, both of your partners looking at the scene unfolding with curiosity.
“Wanna bet?” His face inched closer to your own, breath fanning against your slightly flushed cheeks.
“Deal. If I win, you’ll have to treat me and Jaems dinner.” That damn nickname again.
“Fine, but if I win, you’ll call me Jeno from now on.” It wasn't the deal he'd originally thought of, but the sudden mention of your partner made his blood boil with resentment.
You stared at him, squinting your eyes.
“Fine.” You finally replied as your name was being called through the speakers. “Break a leg.”
You threw your coat at him before entering the ice with Jaemin holding your hand, the crowd cheering loudly for the country's favorite pair. You skated around, warming up your legs as you waited for your music to get started. You stopped at the middle of the rink, placing your hand behind the nape of Jaemin’s neck to start your routine.
The melancholic sound of violins filled the place, your legs moving backward as you started your well-practiced routine.
Jeno watched everything from outside as Jaemin lifted you between his arms, holding your waist tightly as you looked at each other with passion, almost as if thousands of people weren't surrounding you, as if you were the only ones in the room.
Jaemin threw you in the air, your body rotating a few times before you landed in his arms again.
Your routine was filled with emotions, each movement expertly performed, the crowd bursting into cheers as the end of your song approached. You both nailed a triple axel, perfectly synchronized. Jaemin grabbed a hold of your hand, your back slowly bending as he spun your body around, forming the infamous death spiral. Adrenaline pumped through your veins as Jaemin carried you once again, arm between your thighs as he gave a final spin to end your performance. You smiled at each other, proud of your nearly excellent performance.
You skated out of the rink, grabbing a few flowers the crowd had thrown at you. Your trainers waited for you, seating in a bench where you'd receive your final score.
Jeno’s piercing gaze could easily be disguised as a normal competitor's jealousy, but deep down, he knew that wasn't it. He wanted to be the one by your side, he wanted to hold your hand just like Jaemin did. He wanted you to smile at him the way you did with your partner.
As expected, Jeno lost the bet. He was frustrated, to say the least, not only because he didn't get the highest score, but because every single reporter that interviewed the golden medal winners would ask about their relationship.
‘They’re not together.’ Jeno wanted to tell them, but he knew you could handle the situation yourself, telling the reporters you were only friends.
“Just ask her out already.” Irene sat down on a bench beside him, the silver medal hanging from her neck.
“What?”
“Jeno, everyone knows you're head over heels for her. You're not exactly discreet.”
“I really don't want to think about that now.” Irene hummed, staring at Jeno while he closed his eyes, attempting to ease his turbulent mind.
It wasn't until he heard the sound of steps coming his way that he opened them again, his orbs going wide at the sight of you.
“You did amazing today.” Well, that was unexpected.
“Are you mocking me?”
“What? No!” You were suddenly regretted trying to lift his spirits. “Your routine was amazing, Jeno.”
You called him by his name. A small laugh couldn't be helped as his face turned bright red.
“Come, I have a consolation prize for you.” You extended your hand his way, your pretty fingers making a ‘come here’ motion.
“Why are you suddenly being nice to me?” He hesitantly took your hand, letting you drag him all the way to the dressing rooms, away from the curious eyes of reporters.
You didn't answer his question, instead, locking the door behind you. He gave you a puzzled look, his thick eyebrows joining in a small frown.
“I heard you talking to Irene.” You shyly confessed, playing with the hem of your black skirt. “How old are you? 10? Why didn't you just tell me instead of acting like an ass?”
“Okay, first, I acted like an ass once, and I was twelve, what were you even expecting?” He took a step closer to you, hands almost over your waist. “And second, I thought you hated me, why would I confess to someone who clearly doesn't like me?”
“Why would you assume I hate you?”
“You don't?”
“I mean, I don't even know you that well. We've trained together for years but we've barely spoken, except for that time we slept together after drinking.” The distance between your bodies was now null, chests pressing against each other. “But I would've definitely accepted if you’d asked me out. I kinda like that bad boy vibe you give.”
A smile creeped up his lips, hands settling right above the curve of your ass.
“You said you had a consolation prize for me.” You cocked an eyebrow, noticing how the atmosphere had changed in less than a second.
“Oh, really?” Your hands teased the back of his thighs, slightly tugging at the flexible material of his pants.
“Lately I’ve been having trouble remembering that night we shared a year ago, mind helping me freshen up my memory?”
“Well maybe if you hadn’t left the morning after, you wouldn’t have to be reminded, cause it would be a daily thing.” There was a pinch of resentment in your voice as you pulled his pants down, sinking into your knees to caress his growing bulge.
“Don’t tease.” He warned, grabbing a hold of your hair and slightly pulling it back. “I was scared...” he resumed your previous conversation. “Irene and I don’t have the best chemistry, unlike you and that friend of yours, so I feared not being able to skate with her anymore, I didn’t want to lose that small spark that makes us worthy of a medal, even if it’s just silver.”
“But still, you didn’t have to leave me hungover and confused in a hotel room. That was mean.” Jeno chuckled, breath hitching as you pulled out his length from the black boxers.
“I promise to make it up to you...shit.” He groaned as you flattened your tongue against his tip, the pressure driving him insane.
“You better.” You fitted as much as you could inside your mouth, massaging the rest of it with your hands as you bobbed your head.
Jeno could feel himself growing harder inside your wet cavern, length twitching at the feeling of your tongue swirling around it.
“You’re going to be the death of me.” Slowly, his hips started moving back and forth, matching the pace of your head which was now controlled by his hand. “That’s it, I’m close.” His low grunts and moans had your core aching, clenching around nothing in an attempt to relive it. “Just a couple more hours and I’ll take you back to my apartment. I can’t wait to have that pretty cunt around me.” You whimpered, sending vibrations down his cock and causing his cum to spill inside your mouth. The salty liquid painted the back of your throat, involuntarily making you swallow it. “Come on, the reporters must be waiting for you.” With both hands below your elbows, he helped you up, pulling his pants back up before leaving the room with you following closely.
“There You are!” Jaemin spotted you, Jeno immediately running away to avoid rising any suspicions. “What were you doing in that dressing room with our enemy?” He dramatically gasped. “Am I being replaced? Hold me, I might faint.”
“Stop it, you drama queen. We were just...talking.”
“Mhm.” He grabbed your hand, lacing your fingers and shooting a glance at Jeno. His deep frown made Jaemin smile. “Oh, and y/n?” You looked at him. “Wipe that drool off your chin, darling.”

Fire Lord For a Day (Zuko x Reader)
-> There’s a new Fire Lord in town because Zuko lost a bet.
Tumblr media
A few years after Zuko was crowned as the Fire Lord and ushered in a new era of peace and harmony, all is finally well between the 4 nations.
The progress of building the war-torn world back up was hard, but not impossible. Under his rule the Fire Nation work to regain its honor and clean its name, doing whatever they can to help restore what they had destroyed. And having the Avatar on his side definitely doesn’t hurt his chances too.
Besides working on the nation, he has worked hard on bettering himself, becoming a better man, someone more deserving of his title. And I think it’s safe to say that he’s well on his way there, Zuko has always been the sane one in the family, the one with a moral compass although he did get somewhat confused in the past before he found who he’s meant to be. Changing for the better is his watchword now.
That thing with Mai didn’t work out too, for the best perhaps. Although they’re compatible and have known each other since they were little, perhaps it wasn’t meant to be anything more than a simple childhood crush, but it can’t really grow past that. They crave for different things in a relationship, Mai was too emotionless, too closed-off, too cold for his taste. After living a life full of loneliness and rejection, all he needs is warmth and acceptance, a pair of welcoming arms.
Perhaps that’s why he’s immediately hooked to her. Y/N. She’s like the sunshine of his life. Her presence brings him so much joy and unconditional love. It was a chance encounter between them. Zuko was walking around the capital in disguise, watching as the world unfold and ran its course around him, how his people are living their life when he bumped into her. Nearly knocking her onto the ground, thank Agni he didn’t.
She apologized profusely when the impact caused his hood to fall back, revealing his face. She wasn’t sure of this new Fire Lord, well he did promise to be different than his ancestors but she needs actions not words. When she won’t stop repeatedly bowing even though he was clearly the one who got in her way, he frowned, and stop her mid-bow.
“You can stop doing that now, i’m okay, there’s nothing to be worried about” He said softly, assuring the poor girl.
“I’m truly sorry Fire Lord, what can I do to make it up to you?” Face still latched with worries, eyebrows tightly knitted.
“Well I still have to think about that” He pretended to contemplate it in his head, one hand positioned under his chin, “In the meantime, how about we discuss it over tea?”
“O—of course Fire Lord Zuko, anything” He can’t help but grimaced, still was not used to the title.
“Zuko please, just call me Zuko”
“Zuko...” She said, testing the name out, how he loved the sound of it.
“And what can I call you, fair lady?”
“Y/N, just Y/N”
“Okay then just Y/N, should we go now?” Zuko said, offering one of his hands for her to hold, which she took gratefully.
“By all means, lead the way Zuko” Finally letting her worries melt away, giving a way in for a smile.
———————————————————————
That was a few years ago.
Turns out that Y/N’s family is the owner of Zen Dimsum & Tea House, the most famous restaurant in the capital. Even Uncle Iroh always squeeze a visit there everytime he comes home.
“Rival only second to Jasmine Dragon itself!” That’s what he claimed.
And now she is officially his girlfriend, him asking her out was anything but romantic. Spirits know how much he lacks in the wooing department. She doesn’t seem to mind it though and said yes in a heartbeat.
She has met the Gaang on several occasions and they all love her. Even the palace servants and guards adore her too. Zuko came to the conclusion that it’s just impossible not to took a liking to her.
That’s what brought us here today. You see about a week ago Zuko had lost a bet to Y/N, and the price she asked for? being a Fire Lord for a day.
Zuko was skeptical at first of course because everything could go downhill real quick, but she assured him that she wouldn’t do anything that could put a permanent damage to his reputation, not too much anyway.
They agreed on this day for his schedule was pretty much empty, no meetings, no strategizing, no council. It’s as perfect as it can be.
Even the Gaang are here too to witness this hilarious once-in-a-blue-moon occasion. Zuko’s never known for being one to let go of the reign. But this girl somehow manages to pulled it off, oh she’s going to be the death of him for sure.
“All hail Fire Lord Y/N” Sokka said in a booming voice, as he puts the Fire Lord headpiece into her top-knot, crowning her for the day.
“All hail Fire Lord Y/N” Aang, Katara, Toph, Suki, and Ty Lee repeated back solemnly while giving an exaggerated bow.
Zuko can’t help but facepalmed himself at the scene that he’s witnessing, Fire Lord Sozin would no doubt have his head if only he were to see this.
“Ahh it feels good to be king” Y/N said, mustering her voice to be as regal as can be, but her grin definitely ruins it.
Uncle Iroh who has somehow founds himself stumbling onto this scene can’t help but let out a loud laughter.
“Now what do we have here? I must say i’m disappointed to see your reign came to an end so soon dear nephew”
Zuko lets out an exasperated groan to which everyone in the room exploded into a series of laughter, this is just too good to be true.
———————————————————————
“What will be your first decree, Your Majesty?” Sokka asked her.
The Gaang, Ty Lee, and Uncle Iroh surrounded her like an entourage, not wanting to miss out on all the fun while a grumbling Zuko trailed not too far behind them.
“Hey Iroh? do you remember when you reigned as the temporary Fire Lord?” Y/N said.
“Of course dear one, it was short but sweet, what about it?”
“I think it’s about time that we bring back what matters most to the people, I hereby declared that National Tea Appreciation Day would be permanently etched into our calendar!”
The Gaang cheer while Uncle Iroh had almost cried on spot, he shrieked happily, hugging the girl tightly.
“You are a blessing to this nation Y/N”
She smiles back at him, “Anything for you, Iroh”
“National Tea Appreciation Day it is then! Toph, mind giving me a hand on drawing the illustration for the official announcement?” Sokka said asking his poster drawing partner, just like old times in Ba Sing Se.
“You got it, boss” Toph grins back at him, giving a thumbs up.
Looking back and forth between his positively glowing uncle and the happiest the Gaang has ever been for some time, Zuko can’t help but feel the tension leaves his body.
“Maybe this won’t be so bad after all”
———————————————————————
“NO! absolutely not! you can’t change our national color to pink and peach Y/N, what do you think we are?” Zuko nearly lose his shit at this madness.
“But I think it’s brilliant, Zuko! red is sooo last centuries” Ty Lee comes to Y/N defense, sticking her tongue out to her childhood friend.
“You guys are crazy” He’s shaking his head frantically, “This nation is doomed” He dramatically said while pulling at his hair, his top-knot has hair sticking out in all directions.
“Oh knock it off, drama king. It’s just for a day! the people deserve to let loose and have some fun. You know you can always revoke it later” Y/N said, pulling her puppy dog eyes at him, lips pouting slightly.
“Please don’t do that... you’re not playing fair Y/N, you know I can’t say no to that face” Zuko grumbles, he’s trying very hard, but she got him putty in her hands.
“You know what? do what you like, it can’t get any worse than this” He said in defeat.
Oh boy if only he knew how wrong he was.
Zuko cannot recognize what he is seeing in front of his eyes. The proud Fire Nation, his nation, is now a seas of pink and peaches.
To his surprise after the announcement of Y/N’s second decree, the people responded to it giddily. They began to dress up in all sorts of pink and peach, their normal red and black outfit long forgotten. Even the usually reserved and standoffish nobles are participating in this event. Excitement buzzing in the air of the capital.
The people are rejoicing, merrily welcoming the arrival of the new ‘Fire Lord’ amidst them with the sound of cheers and clapping. Petals of flowers are thrown to the air, creating a rain of blooms in a flurry of rainbow shades. It’s nice to see them this light-hearted after living under a tyrant for soo long, the constricting rules don’t help either.
For the first time Zuko sees the people of the Fire Nation becoming one, with no clear lines separating between the nobles and the commoners, together right here and now, they are just human who longs for freedom. Freedom that Y/N just gives them, to do as one’s heart content without having to fear for their status or images.
———————————————————————
“Can we have some music over here? real music not the usual propaganda ones, I wanna hear some beat!” Y/N screamed out into the crowd that has filled the Royal Plaza.
“This one really brings the party with her doesn’t she, Sparky?” Toph said to Zuko, as together their eyes sweep over the continously growing crowd.
“Yeah... that she does” Zuko smiles fondly at his girlfriend and the way she enchants the crowd, it’s like they are gravitating towards her.
“Oh no...” Toph said again with a teasing wicked grin, she pointed her finger at him.
“You are so whipped, Sparky”
“That I am Toph, that I am...”
———————————————————————
“WOHOOOO it’s like the secret cave rave all over again!!!” Aang screamed with happiness as he crowd surf. People of all ages dancing below him.
“Aang! you get down here this instant! you’re gonna fall” Katara freaks out watching the Avatar being passed on from hands to hands. Biting her lip so hard she nearly drew blood.
“Oh let him live, Katara! loosen up, it’s a party” Suki said as she elbows her side lightly.
“Why are we just standing here? COME ON” Ty Lee said as she dragged both girls right to the middle of the crowd.
Katara’s screams of “No no no” was the last thing that can be heard before it’s swallowed by the sound of thrumming beats and off-tune singing.
———————————————————————
As the day come to an end, the party died down and people are returning to their respective home. Worn out but as happy as ever.
The Gaang is beaming, their feet light as they make their way back to the palace. Even after all of the heroic things that they had accomplished, it felt nice just to be a bunch of teenagers again.
“I’m beat you guys, i’m probably gonna sleep for the next 2 days” Aang said, pausing mid sentence to let out a yawn.
“Yup good idea, i’m gonna copy you on that” Sokka replied, entertaining the idea of just passing out on the floor right here right now, it looks so tempting. That is before Suki offers him her shoulders to lean on, shaking her head at his antics.
“Goodnight everyone” Katara said, earning back a chorus of “Goodnight” from everyone in return.
“Thanks for the awesome day Y/N” Ty Lee said as she half hugged Y/N before she too makes her way to her room.
Uncle Iroh gave Zuko and Y/N a warm smile, “Go on and rest you two, you both earned it”
“Goodnight uncle”
“Sleep well, Iroh”
———————————————————————
Back in Zuko’s bedroom, they both have cleaned up and changed into their sleepwear but decided that this is a rare moment to just enjoy each other’s presence without the usual pressure of being chased by time constraint.
“Had fun?” Zuko asked as he approaches her who is currently standing in the balcony that looks over the town below.
He wraps his arms around her as she snuggles into him, enjoying the extra warmth that he provided. Zuko leans down to press a kiss atop the crown of her head.
“I’m kinda sad that this day is over but it’s good while it lasts, I had a good run” She said while chuckling a bit at the ridiculousness of the situation. Never in a million years had she imagined this happening to her.
“You certainly made quite an impression on the people, they all adore you, not that i’m surprised it’s about time they all see you the way that I see you”
Y/N tilted her head a bit so that she can see him better, he looks handsome under the moonlight and stars, some pieces of his hair falling down lazily covering one of his eyes.
He looks at her with an intense look in his eyes, suddenly getting all serious.
“If you like it that much, it doesn’t have to end tonight you know?”
This got her letting out a scoff, “What? you’re gonna resign your position to me now?” she asked incredulously.
Zuko rolls his eyes at her, “No, you silly girl”
“How does Fire Lady sounds to you?”
Y/N swears that her heart stopped beating for a milisecond after hearing the words that just came out of her lover’s mouth.
“Are you really proposing to me right now, Fire Lord Zuko?” She said, feigning out a scandalous gasp.
“Spirits you’re dramatic aren’t you”
“You’re one to talk, Zuko”
She pretends to think about it, eyes looking upward, eyebrows scrunching creating a line in her forehead.
Now Zuko is the one who’s starting to get cold feet, what if she rejected him? what if it’s too much? too soon? how brash of him to just throw around this responsibility so carelessly. Before he can start hyperventilating, she raises her hand to cup his cheek gently, rubbing a soothing finger in a left and right motion to calm down his strung nerve.
“That sounds perfect” Sincerity evident in her voice, “I’ll be honored Zuko, if you’ll have me”
“Oh thank the spirits”
He’s in a state of euphoria, pulling her in even closer, he gently takes her face into his hands and lean down to kiss her. A slow, passionate kiss where they pour as much love as they can muster into it.
As they broke apart, Zuko takes her hand and entertwine their fingers together. Leading her back into his room and walk to the front of the vanity.
He opens one of the drawers, taking out a beautiful box decorated with carvings of dragon and fire lillies. Inside it is a gleaming piece of gold in the shape of a flame, the Fire Lady headpiece.
“May I?” He asks her.
She can only nods, emotions threatening to make her burst.
Zuko takes the headpiece and carefully inserted it into her top-knot, it sits perfectly, right where it should be.
“My Fire Lady” Zuko said as he can’t help but smile as he stares at her reflection in the mirror, leaning down to give a kiss to her cheek.
———————————————————————
The national colors went back to the normal red and black but the smiles on his people’s faces remains. Especially after hearing the official engaged-to-be-married announcement of their Fire Lord to she who has brought happiness not only to him, but to the people as well.
That day as she stood beside him from the top stair of the palace, hands waving to the cheering crowd of people below, proudly adorning the Fire Lady headpiece in her hair, Zuko thought to himself.
Yeah Uncle Iroh is never wrong, she is a blessing to this nation.
“All hail Fire Lord Zuko and Fire Lady Y/N” Uncle Iroh said, giving his salute to the new reigning monarch.
“All hail Fire Lord Zuko and Fire Lady Y/N”
———————————————————————

We need to talk about Mai.
The Avatar: The Last Airbender fandom is one that’s seen better days, that’s for sure. Even in its better days, it was full of ship wars and shit takes. It’s always been like that, despite how near-perfect the show is, and that’s nothing that can be helped. We all consume media differently, and that’s what makes so many movies and TV shows so great. Differing opinions are what create discussion and debate, and we should almost always at least entertain them to help get a better understanding of the thoughts and opinions of others. So… let’s dive into one of my most unpopular opinions.
Mai. We all know her as the knife-wielding goth girl, friend to Azula and girlfriend to Zuko. Many have come to the false conclusion that she’s all surface and no substance, that she never cared enough for Zuko, that she was too passive and uncaring and didn’t cater enough to the emotions of the people around her. She turned on Azula to save Zuko, and Ty Lee turned on Azula to save Mai. It’s one of (in my opinion, at least) the most badass and iconic moments of the show. Mai stealthily pinning down all the prison guards without spilling a single drop of blood, buying Zuko, Sokka, Suki and co. just enough time to escape the Boiling Rock is one of the best action scenes in all of ATLA, that much isn’t up for debate. But it’s also one of the most profound and selfless acts of love in the entire series. Zuko, whose mother poisoned his grandfather to save his life, who betrayed his uncle just as he was going to make a major heel turn as a person, was saved by a girl he broke up with… in a letter. I’ll get into the letter later. But for now, I want to unpack Mai’s sacrifice.
She knew exactly what she would be facing by saving Zuko. Azula was right there. And Mai still did it. She resigned herself to the fact that she would have to face Azula’s fury — and her lightning. Mai’s only defense? Her knives. It was a test of speed and precision. Or at least, it would’ve been, if Ty Lee hadn’t stepped between them and taken Azula down. The important part was that Mai was willing to die to save Zuko’s life. “I love Zuko more than I fear you,” is one of the most powerful lines of dialogue I’ve ever heard in my life. It confirmed two things: Mai loves Zuko (which she said with her actions as much if not more than her words) and Mai has only been friends with Azula as long as she has because she actually feared what Azula would do to her otherwise. It was never any secret who had the true power in the Fire Nation royal family — Mai knew that better than most. And still, even after Zuko ditched her in the middle of an invasion, she would’ve traded her life for his without a second thought.
Which leads me to my next point — the letter. Mai read a portion of it out loud. We saw Zuko write it just a few episodes prior. We know from context and dialogue that he didn’t want to leave her, he tells Sokka as much on their way to the Boiling Rock. In Zuko’s mind, he left Mai behind to protect her. But flipping it and looking at it from Mai’s perspective is so key to understanding why she was so hurt. This wasn’t just a case of a jerk boyfriend breaking up with his girlfriend through a text message. This was two traumatized teenagers who fell in love despite all odds, who were separated for three years, and were finally reunited… just for him to leave again. The first time Zuko left, he didn’t have a choice, as we all know. That’s fair. The second time? He did have a choice. He made the right choice. He knew it. We as the audience know it. But who didn’t know it was Mai — she expresses as much. She doubts herself and her relationship with Zuko because of it. She more or less infers that she feels their relationship has been built on a lie — and in truth, it partially has been. Zuko withheld information from her and withheld his feelings. Remember ‘The Beach’, toward the beginning of book 3? That episode where Mai and Zuko (and Azula and Ty Lee) all addressed their childhood trauma and finally began to be able to work through it? Mai didn’t shut down Zuko’s feelings — she actively encouraged him to share with her how he was feeling. In the same scene, Zuko claimed Mai didn’t care about anything, and at the end of the episode, she affirmed that although she had difficulty expressing her true emotions, she did care about Zuko. And I think it says a whole lot about her that even after having her heart broken by him, after opening up to him and offering a safe place for him and getting hurt as a result of that, she still couldn’t let him die.
What I’m getting at is… would a girl who REALLY didn’t care do that? I see a lot of people claim she didn’t listen to Zuko… when was that? In ‘Nightmares and Daydreams’, when she constantly tried to affirm him, comfort him, reassure him, and was met with silence? In ‘The Beach’ when he dumped all of his trauma on her and she sympathized with him but still held him accountable for his actions? She did nothing wrong in those instances. She was never in the wrong to demand decency from her boyfriend — he accused her of cheating because another man looked at her. In what world doesn’t she have a right to be upset about that?
Circling back to the first episode of book 3 — in a scene that many blow wildly out of proportion — Zuko is being his usual angsty self, having a moment of reflection and self-doubt. He’s afraid his father won’t accept him, that going home to the Fire Nation might be a mistake. It’s easy to forget that Mai wasn’t present for the death of Aang, so she has no idea what happened during that scene. She has no idea that Zuko wasn’t the one that killed Aang. She has no idea what Zuko’s been doing in the three years he’s been gone. So… in her head, she assumes Zuko’s just being his usual dramatic self, and makes a joke about not wanting to know his life story to put his mind at ease and assure him that his worries were misplaced. She wanted the same thing she thought Zuko wanted (and I say thought because, well… he never told her what he really wanted because *he* didn’t even know) and encouraged him to strive toward that. She waited for him for hours outside the war chamber in ‘Nightmares and Daydreams’, and when the meeting finally ended and he came back out, she enthusiastically congratulates him on it, she’s happy for him because with her limited knowledge of what’s actually going on in her boyfriend’s head, this is what he wants. Earlier in the same episode, he’s lamenting about not being invited, and then decides the meeting is dumb and he doesn’t want to go to it. And she agrees with him, again, simply just trying to affirm him and make him feel better. She supports him in all things — all things that she can to the best of her understanding of the things.
At the end of it all, communication is a two-way street — Zuko was shitty at expressing himself and so was Mai. That was something they both needed to work on separately in order to be able to come back together. Their separate and individual personal growth does not hinge on their relationship. Mai was not Zuko’s therapist, nor should she have been. She tried to be supportive and be there for him in the only ways she knew how with her very limited (but expanding) sense of sympathy. Mai was a person who never let herself care, at least not outwardly, lest she get her feelings hurt in the process. She did open up to Zuko, and encouraged him to do the same with her, offered him support, unconditional love, and a safe place, and he needed to do some growing away from her, and that’s fine. He should’ve communicated that to her a little better, and she should’ve tried to be more understanding from the start, but they’re still just teenagers. I don’t know many teenagers who can take what they know they are capable of emotionally handling and applying it to their interpersonal relationships as well as Mai does. I was a hell of a lot farther behind in my own emotional development than Mai was at 15.

You’re doing a LoK rewrite, correct? Would be really interested in hearing how you plan on fixing Suyin’s character and the Lin-Suyin conflict because……. oh boy. Man there’s a lot to unpack there. This is what happens when we don’t let Toph just raise her fucking kids for the sake of pushing a stupid as hell narrative about working women and single motherhood.
I am indeed!
In... you know, the way I'm doing most of my big potential projects, in that I have a folder with some documents that have plot notes and... some day I may actually get full, finished fics out of them (h2o AU is in there, as is my voltron!atla fusion AU, and uhhhh my book 3 atla rewrite, and a few other things), so... but I will say that the docs I have for my LoK rewrite so far amount to roughly 4.2k words of just Plot and Character Notes, which may some day turn into words of Story, hopefully.
ANYWAY, POINT IS: yes, this exists, and I have Many Many Thoughts.
Including how the Gaang kids would shake out! Cause I know I'm doing Zutara, and maybe Tokka???? Although I don't wanna just leave Suki out either... maybe a throuple??? Or Sukka having an amicable breakup before Sokka and Toph get together--maybe she already has Lin by then, and Sokka helps support her through the grief of losing Kanto???? Idk honestly, I haven't actually figured any of that out definitively yet except that Aang was perfectly happy to settle down with an Air Acolyte from one of the rebuilt temples because he grew up and out of his crush on Katara pretty easily once he hit puberty and matured a bit.
UHHH none of which is actually an answer to your question, because it's a valid one! Which is why I've been sitting on this a while (10 days I'm so sorry) bc I haven't made any solid decisions but I've been letting it percolate around my head a bit. And the more I think about it, the more I really like the Sukka -> Tokka idea (and I don't want to kill off Suki since the kids all deserve their awesome Kyoshi warrior auntie in their lives, and also I want a Sukka kid to be besties with Iara [zuko and katara's youngest] so maybe she gets with someone else after she and Sokka split? I could be talked into Ty Lee/Suki actually, the more I think about it....), but obviously having a stable father figure and a Toph who is... not what LoK made her out to be will dramatically change the Beifong family dynamic.
That said, I think I actually have a solution. (I'm so sorry for what I'm about to do.) Toph has Lin with Kanto--and he passes away when Lin is two or three, which is why she has very few memories of her father. (Although none of this 'she doesn't even know his name until she's 50+ cause Toph didn't tell her daughters about their fathers' bullshit.) Sokka is there for her through it all (all of the gaang is, of course, but you know that it sometimes just hits different when it's someone you're also starting to fall in love with, especially when there are older and much more deeply buried feelings there that are now resurfacing, because at least in my version Toph was deeply in love with Sokka when they were teenagers, but he was in love with Suki and she also loved Suki so she didn't want to mess up anything about their family or the group dynamics by making her feelings anyone else's problem), they fall in love, get married and have Suyin.
(Sokka may jokingly refer to it as a shotgun wedding, but the truth is he wanted to propose well before he found out she was pregnant, his attempts just kept getting messed up in increasingly comedic fashion.)
Throughout all of this, Republic City has been established, Sokka is Chancellor, Toph is something of a defacto police chief--mostly because, at the time, no one else was willing to volunteer, and she jokingly offered to whip the law enforcement, but unfortunately everyone else at the meeting took her seriously. However, she is also the founder of the probending league, and basically her feelings about law enforcement are complicated and she actively discouraged her kids from joining the force which is part of why Lin did. How else do you have a teen rebel phase with a parent like Toph? (Which, in this instance, means tough and firm but fair, with a 'you break it, it's up to you to fix it' attitude and very little desire to actually control her daughters and their behavior.)
Ah, but here's the rub.
Suyin is ten years old when Sokka dies, and Lin is sixteen. I'm not sure how he's killed--maybe by Yakone, to tie it into my plans for Amon and book 1. (Note that I'm not sure when the Yakone bloodbending trial happened in canon, but it doesn't matter. The timeline I'm gonna build will be completely different post-comet, and I'll eventually write it all down so that I can keep things straight.) Which would incidentally provide excellent means of having Katara have a very personal stake in the Amon conflict, and perhaps color the fight between him and Iara, but I'm getting off track. And I think Sokka being killed by Yakone, and Toph being unable to protect or save him, or deliver her own brand of justice to avenge him (because Aang is there to stop her and.... shit probably got ugly, I suspect she didn't talk to Aang for at least twenty years after Sokka's death--and this isn't to say I think Toph is particularly violent or murderous, but in that moment, she absolutely wanted to kill the man with her bare hands, and however much she may have regretted it afterwards, she took a very long time to forgive Aang for stopping her in the first place), is what results in Toph stepping down as police chief.
She didn't withdraw from her daughters or fuck off into the swamp or anything (words cannot express how much I hate that part of her canon history), but she did grieve for a very long time. Lin, meanwhile, felt like it was up to her to keep her family together, while also feeling a desperate need to... prove herself, I think. And because her mother was so adamant that she not join the police force, that's exactly what she does. I think Lin completely misread Toph's intentions, too, and believed that the discouragement was because her mother didn't think she had what it takes, when in reality I think Toph was scared of Lin losing herself in the job like she herself had begun to, and eventually coming up on something she couldn't change or fix and making the same mistakes she had.
(I think Toph and Lin have communication issues largely because they are both headstrong and willful, but where Toph thought she was giving her daughters the room they would need to make their own way, what Lin desperately craved was direction and she felt like that was something her mother simply couldn't understand.)
Suyin, on the other hand, fell in with a bad crowd like in canon. I think that what she desperately needed was attention, similar to Lin craving direction, and Toph was trying so hard not to be her own parents that she went a little too far in the other direction and Suyin began to feel like it didn't matter what she did, her mom wouldn't care, or get angry, or discipline her, or anything. Lin and Suyin butted heads a lot growing up, too, especially after Sokka's death, because Lin tried to rein in her sister's behavior and this was met with resistance and derision because Suyin felt like Lin was trying to be both mom and dad and she was neither but her big sister would never admit to being just as lost as she was and it made her furious.
So when Suyin is sixteen, and Lin is twenty-two and new to the force, The Big Rift happens. Lin catches Suyin and her gang, tries to apprehend her, gets a scar on her face in the ensuing conflict. But instead of abusing her power and sending her problem child off to her mother before fucking off to the swamp to avoid the consequences of her actions, Toph tries to actually fix things. Suyin cools her heels in prison for a while, because she was paralyzed by guilt at the time when she hurt her sister (a few inches lower and she could have slit her throat), and was still there when Lin's backup arrived.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh..... I'm so sorry I rambled for so long, BUT THE UPSHOT IS: I think Suyin learned a bit about culpability and taking responsibility for her own actions, Toph realized that her daughters had different needs than she did at their age (and I think a lot of the problem was that grief clouded her own ability to connect with her daughters, and in trying to not be her own parents she lost sight of how to be the parent her own daughters needed), and Lin, I think, had to realize that she had never fully processed the loss of not one but two fathers and had turned to her job in order to avoid actually confronting the grief that had overshadowed her childhood.
However, she did not forgive Suyin, at least not right away--and she wasn't forced or expected to. Suyin understood that she crossed a serious line, she took her lumps and did her time, and no one shamed Lin for her anger. I think, as a result, she had less reason to hold onto that bitterness, and perhaps by the time the story actually begins, she and Suyin are on much better terms, though I haven't worked it out exactly yet.
UHHH yeah I went on for days lmao. All of this is subject to change, too, depending on the needs of the story whenever I get around to actually writing it all down, BUT these are my initial thoughts, at least.

IT'S TIME FOR A ROAD TRIP! Where are they going? Doesn't matter, it's about the journey not the destination! How well do the gaang+extras prepare for the multi-day car ride (van, actually? to fit everyone?), what are the assigned roles (if any), and how long before they go insane from boredom/small space.
before I realized that you were talking about modern au i was like yeah dude they go on road trips all the time...... that’s like actually most of the show....... but you meant like in a car oh ok
suki’s beloved truck can fit all of them. she mostly insists on driving, but sometimes ty lee or mai are allowed to take over (sokka can drive as well, but suki refuses to let him with this many people because she knows that if anything happened to them on his watch even if it wasn’t his fault he’d like. kill himself and she doesn’t need that rn)
sokka packs food & snacks, first aid, clothes, toiletries, portable chargers, physical maps in case all their phones somehow die, and anything else they might possibly need. he manages to fit it all inside one giant backpack with a billion pockets, that he insists on carrying with him at all times.
they take turns with the aux cord, except for ty lee, who was banned after she started playing a recording of a derrida lecture. why does she even have this on her phone??? they all wonder, except for mai, who’s like “bump this shit it’s my jam!!!!!”
zuko gets carsick almost immediately, so he goes to sit in the front with suki. he has nothing to say to her, and would much rather just stare out the window and watch the world roll by. any attempts she makes at conversation immediately get shut down by his terse, one-word responses. suki would be lying if she said this didn’t influence her decision to let mai take the wheel sooner than was strictly necessary.
if you’re wondering, they picked a weekend specifically when azula was busy so that ty lee and mai wouldn’t feel bad about not inviting her (she had a model congress trip).
it goes like this: aang suggests the road trip game, they all agree, only for it to immediately devolve into an argument between katara and toph which aang attempts fruitlessly to mediate. they decide on another road trip game instead, that is perhaps less competitive. rinse & repeat.
aang and katara take tons of pictures for posterity. they’re not so secretly both very proud that they were invited on this roadtrip with the cool older kids and want physical documentation of their achievement, even if said invite came from them begging sokka and sokka being like “sure.” then he also invites toph, because toph is his favorite.
they all take turns singing really obnoxiously and being told to shut the fuck up in turn. katara because she is attempting to hit mariah’s high notes, aang & toph because “99 bottles of beer on the wall” is aggravating as fuck, suki because she has a terrible voice and she’s “ruining the sanctity of mitski by humming along,” sokka because he keeps yelling “ITS BRITNEY BITCH” every time there’s a pause in the music, zuko because at first his singing along to “my heart will go on” was funny but now it sounds like he might actually be crying???, ty lee because she actually managed to do whistle tones and katara is mad now, and mai because she somehow got too loud while showing off that she does indeed know all the lyrics to smash mouth’s “all star.”
at sokka and aang’s insistence, they stop and take pictures at every tourist trap they can find. nobody has the heart to tell aang that sokka’s enthusiasm for these excursions is ironic, because aang seems genuinely excited to see a statue of an ant deemed “the largest sculpture of an ant in the tri-state area” and other such wonderful nonsense like that.
toph gets really hyper from all the snacks she devours, and mai has to keep her still while sokka uses a wet wipe to clean all the cheeto dust off her fingers before any of it gets on suki’s car and she makes all of them walk the rest of the way.
there’s a lull in the car as everyone’s energy wanes. the playlist is currently a chill indie mix, and everyone is content to stare out the window and daydream. then, suddenly, out of nowhere, ty lee asks, “would you make out with the grinch for a million dollars?” to which mai responds, “no, I’d only make out with him for FREE.”
they stop at a small mostly secluded beach and sokka is like “goddammit! beach towels! I forgot beach towels!!!” but it’s fine because suki actually keeps towels in her truck. zuko aang and katara get very into looking for the prettiest shell they can find, and then making the rest of them judge which shell is the prettiest. mai’s just like “congratulations on picking up all that beach trash,” and toph’s like “they all look the same to me,” but sokka gets really into judging each shell based on a rubric divided into color, shape, size, intactness, uniqueness, and overall “aesthetic cohesion.”
meanwhile ty lee and suki have wandered off to go find somewhere nearby that will sell them beer and not look too closely at their fake IDs. after having to nix the nearest store due to the fact that the cashier is clearly a gay man, they do manage to flirt their way into purchasing beer on their next attempt. they return bearing gifts, only for them to find sokka and aang poorly attempting to mediate an argument between katara and zuko over who found the superior shell, while mai and toph are all the way on the other end of the beach, where they’ve found a dead jellyfish being feasted upon by crabs (far cooler than any shell, if you ask them).
after their beach excursion, suki insists that they rid themselves of any and all sand that might find its way back into her baby (ie her truck). katara is like “but your car is a filthy mess already,” and if not for the fact that she’s sokka’s little sister, suki is fully prepared to tackle her into the ground.
due to the combination of twists and turns in the road and his earlier consumption of beer (he’s a massive lightweight) zuko does finally throw up on the side on the road (which mai and toph were definitely not taking bets on thank you very much). luckily, sokka packed mouthwash.
they go to a diner and try to all squeeze into one booth, which ultimately only works because they all agree to sit on each other’s laps. they cause an absolute ruckus like the incorrigible menaces they are, and their waitress resents them very much.
aang finally settles on a road trip game everyone can enjoy: truth or truth (like truth or dare but minus the dares because they are currently in a moving vehicle). zuko opts out because he’s [cough cough] “oh so terribly sick.” toph’s like “okay you’re just a pussy but whatever.”
all of katara’s questions are like “who do you have a crush on” and mai’s questions are like “are you afraid to die” and sokka’s questions are like “do you think morality is relative” and toph’s questions are like “what was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you” and suki’s questions are like “have you ever done anything illegal” (and then she calls you a coward if you say no) and ty lee’s questions are like “would you ever kill someone.” and zuko is asleep.
toph gets banned from the aux cord after she plays classical music (which suki deems unacceptable, and, well, it is her car). zuko gets banned from the aux cord after he plays “three little babes” by joanna newsom, which katara claims is “the worst song about children committing suicide together [she has] ever heard” (sokka and mai strongly disagree, but they also know better than to fight katara on this while in such a cramped space). mai finally gets banned from the aux cord after playing “all star” for the fifth time.
when they finally get back home, they chill in aang’s backyard, and he makes them all a salad, which is the best food they’ve ever tasted after eating nothing but junk for the past however many days. but then toph’s like “are you sure you don’t have steak?” and aang’s like “wtf toph no I don’t have steak” but sokka and mai like “okay steak sounds so good rn” so then the three of them leave to go get a steak...somewhere. suki and ty lee eventually leave too, to go to a party one of the other popular jock girls is throwing. it’s just aang, katara, and zuko left. aang and katara keep going back and forth reminiscing on their road trip like “remember that time when...?” “yeah that was so funny” and zuko’s like “yeah of course I remember that happened like two hours ago???” but they both ignore him, just happy to relive their glory days.

Make It Up | L.Taeyong
Tumblr media
Genre: single parent!au, suggestive content, fluff with a little bit of angst
Pairing: CEO!Taeyong x Secretary!reader
Word count: 11,2k words
Summary: Spending a lot of time with your boss’ daughter was probably a bad decision for you. Before you even realize that you dipped your feet in the water, your body was already drowning. Will you able to escape the maze between your feelings and professionalism?
singledad!ty is a dream periodt
Tumblr media
“Do you want me to bring you coffee, sir?” You asked him calmly. During an intense meeting like this, no one could approach him just to offer him a drink, except you.
“Yes, please. Oh, and this meeting will not be finished until we solve the problem. So, I want you to pick taehee up from her daycare.” He ordered.
“Yes, sir.” You bow politely to your boss before proceeding to leave the room. You sneak a glance at Johnny on your way out, cringing along with him as you cheer on him and the rest of the team with your body language.
You work in a game development company as the main secretary of the CEO, Lee Taeyong. The company stocks were expected to be increased by the end of the month. But someone decided to be a dick and spread some false rumors about one of the game made by the developing team. So the stockholders were complaining against the CEO and now he’s as angry as a hungry lion.
The sound of your heels clicking could be heard all over the hall. You walk at a fast pace in your pencil skirt to the parking lot. Mr. Lee never trusts his daughter to anyone except you, not even his personal driver. You don’t understand why you’re the only woman he could trust his daughter to, even though he has a girlfriend. You spend a lot of time with Lee Taehee, the true heir of your company, more than your family.
You smiled in satisfaction when you reach the luxury daycare. You lock your boss car as you walk into the huge lobby. You greeted the receptionist, smiling politely. “Hello, ms. Y/n. I’ll bring Lee Taehee for you.” The woman greeted you back before calling the teacher from the toddler’s class to bring Taehee.
A minute later, a joyful kid runs towards you. You smile and squat down to welcome her in a hug. “Our beautiful Taehee!” You greeted. “Hi, Y/n!” She inhaled your sweet scent before pulling away. “Where’s daddy?” She asked.
“Well, daddy’s got a meeting and he couldn’t pick you up. He said sorry though,” You explained.
You can feel your heart melted when she pouts, “Uh, did he told you to buy me ice cream though?”
You laughed as you took her arms and bow politely to the staff before walking her out to the car. “Of course, let’s go get ice cream!”
After helping her to put on the seat belts, you start the engine and goes to the little princess’ favorite ice cream parlor.
“Actually, daddy promised to take me and kkoma to the pet park. But I don’t think he’s available tonight.” The little girl pouts. You always feel sad for Taehee. With her dad always got drown in work, she plays alone most of the time. Taeyong never hires a nanny or a babysitter into the big penthouse because he could never trust any stranger to be in the house. You’ve been working for almost two years that he could finally trust his daughter to you.
“It’s okay. I can play with you. You’re gonna show me the book you bought last week, right?” You comforted her before you wipe some ice cream leftovers around her lips. Taehee’s eyes lit in happiness after knowing she’ll have someone to play with tonight. “Really? Yeah, let’s play with the new toys daddy bought me yesterday, too!”
Your phone rings continuously as you unlock the big penthouse in the middle of the frenetic Seoul city. You told Taehee to go into her bedroom while you answer the call. “Good evening, Mr. Lee. What can I help you?”
“You forgot to hand me the rest of the schedule. Well, what am I supposed to do tomorrow? No meetings, right?” He chuckled. You feel relieved when you heard his relaxed tone as an indication that he’s no longer angry like he has been since this morning. “Oh, yeah, I’m very sorry, sir. Well, you got no more team meetings tomorrow. You only need to meet some of our directorates and that’s all.”
You heard Taeyong groans over the phone, “Urgh, those old men again, huh?” You chuckled before you reply, “Actually, you missed a very very important schedule for tonight, boss.”
He furrowed his eyebrow upon hearing your words. “What- Oh shit. Yeah, my god, I’m a terrible dad. Yeah, please tell her I’m sorry and I promise I will take her tomorrow evening.”
You smiled before you reply with a nod, “Already did that.”
“And please be with her for tonight, I will stay in Jennie’s apartment. I need some kind of stress relief.” Taeyong said nonchalantly. You frown because you know he can’t see you. “Alright, good night, boss.”
You sigh, feeling terribly sad for Taehee. For you, Taeyong’s girlfriend is being really selfish. She never wants to stay at the penthouse because she can’t do chores or cook. She barely voluntarily spends any time with Taehee, and she bluntly told Taeyong that she doesn’t really like kids. You can’t believe that your boss chose that kind of girl to be his future second wife but then again, it’s none of your business.
“Y/n? Are you finished with the call? I’m shivering..” Taehee called from her bathroom. You mentally facepalmed yourself as you rushed into her bathroom. “I’m sorry! I’ll bring your squishy ducks!”
“Taehee, I’m staying with you tonight. Daddy said he won’t be able to go home tonight. He said he’s really sorry that he couldn’t take you and kkoma to the pet park and that he promised he will bring you tomorrow evening.”
Taehee sighs, “Another promise... It’s okay, as long as you’re here, I’ll be fine.” You feel a motherly happy feeling when she said that and something inside of you melted from the warmth feeling. “That’s my pretty girl. Come on, show me what daddy bought you yesterday.”
You open your eyes slowly at the ray of the morning sunshine. You look back at Taehee who’s still sleeping soundly in your arms. You gently untangled her hands away from you before pulling up the blanket to cover her more. You get out of bed to prepare breakfast until you stop in your track because of a picture on Taehee’s little study desk.
You recognize your boss’ writing under the picture: “Mommy.” You look longer at the picture, noticing how much resemblance this woman has with Taehee. “She has her nose and lips.” You mumbled. In a brief time, you remembered what Taehee told you about her mother.
“Daddy told me that mommy has gone to heaven. I never got to see her face, but this is the only picture I got from grandma. She said mommy died when she delivered me into this world. I don’t even know what that means.”
You glance back at the sleeping toddler, feeling sorry for her to not having a mom at such a young age. Your boss never tells you anything about his private life but spending a lot of time with his daughter makes you know everything because you know how little kids don’t lie, right?
You put the picture back on the study desk before leaving the bedroom to cook breakfast. You remember Taehee wanting to eat some soup yesterday so you decided to cook a chicken soup for her and also you. You were chopping some onions when you heard the door getting unlocked. You furrowed your eyebrow at how he got home early in the morning.
“Good morning, boss. Did you have breakfast?” You greeted him as he lets himself fall on the couch in the living room. “Hey, and nope. Give me a bowl of whatever of that thing you just cook, please.”
You simply nod even though you badly want to ask him why he didn’t have breakfast at her home but you know exactly what the answer is. “Why don’t you go to her room, sir? She’s still sleeping, I guess.” You suggested. Taeyong nods in agreement before walking wearily to his daughter’s room.
Taeyong crept into the cute kiddy room before jumping down on the bed to wake his little monster up. “Good morning, my princess. It’s time to wake up!” He coos as he cuddles into taehee’s little arms. “Hm,” Taehee groans cutely at his dad who bothers her in her sleep before opening her eyes slowly, “Hi, daddy.”
Taeyong showered the smaller one with kisses, smiling at how she reacts cutely to the kisses. “Where’s Y/n? Did she went home?” Taehee asked before wriggling out of her dad’s arms. “No, she’s cooking. Let’s bath you up before we have breakfast.”
You finished cooking the soup at the same time when your boss has his daughter in his arms, walking together to the kitchen with growling stomachs. “Wow, chicken soup! Thanks, Y/n! you’re the best!” Taehee claps her little hands when she saw the meals you put on her high chair. You nod happily as you see Taeyong digging his food already. “At this point, I may be applicable to be your housemaid, boss.” You smile teasingly. He laughs it off, “Don’t worry, I’ll raise your salary.” He smirked. Oh, that goddamn smirk, you thought.
“No, sir. I’m just joking.” You laugh along with him, before taehee speaks up nonchalantly. “I think, at this point, you may be applicable to be my mom.” She copied your word while chewing on the chicken innocently. You glance awkwardly at your boss who chocked on his soup. You bring him a glass of water before laughing awkwardly.
“Taehee, you can’t just say things like that to Y/n.” Taeyong scold his cute daughter gently. Taehee nods as she grins on you. “Excuse me, sir. I think I have to go home. I will meet you in your office.” You bowed politely to both your boss and the smaller boss. “Bye, taehee.” You wave her goodbye and she waved back. Gosh, that was so awkward.
Tumblr media
“Why can’t we just compensate them with free diamonds or a new special customized weapon? Why do we have to lose millions of stocks just because of some morons?” Taeyong groans with his hands folded in his chest.
His directorial advisor sighs, “No, we can’t just do that, Mr. Lee. The developing team may be able to do that by noon but our directorates will not tolerate that kind of compensation. It’s not fair to our in-app purchasers. And people will just spread more rumors for us to give them more free diamonds and weapons.”
You knocked before you enter the room with CEO Lee’s prepared meeting suits and his proposal papers.
“Excuse me, Mr. Lee. Our directorates are coming in ten minutes. We should be getting ready for your proposal.
Taeyong nods, thanking you mentally for saving him from the frustrating conversation.
You bowed to the middle-aged man before trailing behind your boss to the meeting room.
Being alone with your boss after the awkward conversation with his daughter this morning is killing you softly.
You distract yourself by organizing some papers and preparing drinks on the table. You feel a pair of eyes on you as you pass around the room.
Taeyong cleared his throat before speaking up to you, “Uhm, I remembered you didn’t have breakfast with us earlier, have you eat?” He asked.
You glance at him awkwardly, “Y-yeah, I.. have, thank you for worrying.”
“You don’t have to be all formal and polite to me you know. We’re almost at the same age.”
You smile, “It’s alright, Mr. Lee. You are my boss and this is office hours, also I’m two years younger than you, so this should be my preferable manner to you, sir.”
“Well, that’s understandable. Uh, and about our conversation this morning. You didn’t wholeheartedly take her words, right?” He asked.
Ah, those awkward goosebumps are coming back.
“Of course, no, Mr. Lee.” You fake a smile.
“Good, then, I don’t want you to be uncomfortable around Taehee and I. Afterall, you spend a lot of time with her more than Jennie and I did these past few years.”
You only nod, not wanting to continue the conversation.
You thanked the directorates for coming in a great timing just so you can immediately leave the room. You walked wearily towards your table beside Johnny’s before leaning your head onto the table.
“What’s with the frown, Miss Secretary?” Johnny glance at your table beside him with a teasing smirk.
“Shut up, John. You don’t know what I’ve been through.”
“Tell me, maybe this wise oppa can give you the right answer for every question you have.”
You rolled your eyes before turning into him, “Taehee literally just asked me to be her mom this morning.”
Johnny didn’t show any expected reaction, which makes you furrowed your eyebrow.
“Aren’t you her mom already? You practically live at his penthouse more than his girlfriend does.”
You hit his arms playfully before protesting, “Shut your mouth! You and the developing team are the only people who knew I helped Mr. Lee’s daughter, okay? Don’t be a big mouth..”
Johnny laughs quietly, “Yes, ma’am.”
You keep thinking about Johnny’s words earlier. Every staff in the daycare know how you act motherly towards taehee. Some of her friends’ mom even called you taehee’s mom before you clarified that you’re only her dad’s assistant.
You remember bringing Taehee to your family’s Thanksgiving dinner because Taeyong decided to go to a romantic dinner with his glorious girlfriend instead of spending time with his daughter. Your family loves Taehee, even allowed Taehee to call them family names. You remember Taehee being very happy that night, “this year’s thanksgiving is better than any thanksgiving year with my grandpops and dad.”
Your concern is, does taehee really think of you as her mother, just because you spend time with her more than her future mother did? You don’t exactly think so, but the situation tells you otherwise.
Your thoughts were interrupted by your alarm, reminding you about the meeting. You immediately move from the snack bar, and leave to assist your boss after the meeting.
“How’s the meeting, boss? Did it went well?” You greeted.
He smiled in satisfaction before nodding at you, “Yeah, I managed to convince them about the compensation. We made a great deal. Well, I don’t have any working schedule left, right? Let’s take taehee and kkoma to the pet park.” He suggested cheerfully.
You smile along with him, feeling glad that everything went well. “Alright, sir. I’ll have Mr. Han ready with the car. Have fun, sir.” You bowed politely.
He stopped in his track before he turns back to you, “No, you’re coming with us.”
Your jaw drops. Is he seriously asking you to go with him and his daughter, on a private trip? “Why am I coming with you, Mr. Lee? Perhaps, Miss Kim is not available?” You asked.
“I haven’t asked her yet. I just thought that Taehee would be happy if you tag along.” He explained with a smile. “Well, if you have another plan for today, it’s okay.”
You nod immediately. “No, I’m completely free, Mr. Lee.”
“Aye, you can drop the formalities. It’s past office hours. You can be comfortable around me and Taehee. Just call me Taeyong.”
Tumblr media
“Taehee!” You greeted Taehee as she ran to hug you. So, Taeyong and you decided to pick Taehee up from the daycare before getting kkoma the poodle in the penthouse. She looks at her dad with sparkly eyes, “Is she coming with us?” She asked excitedly. Taeyong nods, smiling at his daughter who seems to like being with his assistant more than him. “Thank you, daddy!” She pulls away from you to hug her daddy’s legs. Taeyong smiled even wilder, before lifting his daughter to give her kisses.
“Now, it’s time for you to get in the car and put the seat belts on.”
You watch as Taeyong puts his daughter on the car seat. You get on the passenger seat in front, putting your own seat belts, listening to the father and daughter playing around.
“Alright, let’s go!”
Fifteen minutes later in the parking lot, Taeyong and you are debating about who’s going up to get kkoma. You insisted to go up so Taehee declared that you win the debate and the three of you laughed.
“I’ll be back with kkoma.” You smiled before closing the car door.
“Bye, Y/n!” Taehee waved at you.
You went to the penthouse, walking towards the only front door on that floor, before stopping upon seeing someone standing in front of the door.
You immediately bow, “Good afternoon, Miss Kim.”
Jennie looks at you with a furrowed eyebrow, “What are you doing here? Where’s your boss? Why are you alone?”
You felt sweaty before trying to explain calmly. “I’m here to get kkoma. Mr. Lee and his daughter are going to the pet park.”
She tilts her head, seems to be astonished by your explanation. “Don’t go in. I’ll get the dog instead.” You bowed politely before she unlocked the door and walk into the house. “Urgh, why didn’t he tell me.” She mumbled.
You were about to leave when you remember that you left your things in the car, and his girlfriend probably doesn’t know where the car is parked. So, you wait until Jennie comes out with kkoma. You noticed that she only brought the dog without the leash.
“Uh, Miss Kim? I’m sorry but you forgot the leash.”
Her jaw drop cockily. “Are you seriously telling me to get a dog’s leash?”
You stutter, “I’m sorry, Miss Kim, but you told me not to go into the house.”
She rolled her eyes in a sassy manner, before walking back into the house, groaning angrily. You bit your lip, trying not to laugh at the situation.
You walk behind your boss’ girlfriend. You were about to lead her to the car but she stopped walking. “You can leave now, I’ll call him.”
You bowed before explaining that you left your things in the car.
She glares at you, “What? Did you come here with him? No way, did you also go to the daycare with him?”
You only nod, not wanting to explain more. She just groans and leaves you in front of the elevator.
Taeyong saw you from an angle and he felt somehow relieved after worrying about what possibly took you so long until he saw his girlfriend. He lifted his eyebrow before getting out of the car to greet his girfriend.
“Jennie, what are you doing here? Why are you holding kkoma?” He asked, glancing at you with a disoriented look. You just bit your lip awkwardly.
“Why didn’t you tell me that you have a date with your daughter? Did you possibly think I wouldn’t want to join? Of course, I would. Why did you bring her? It’s past office hours.” She ranted.
“I’m sorry, okay. Let’s just go. Taehee’s very excited if she comes along.”
Jennie gets in the car immediately, greeting Taehee with a made-up smile and an awkward sentence of, “Hi, did you eat?”
Taeyong looks at you, “Aren’t you going with us?”
“Ah, I’m sorry, Mr. Lee. I think I can’t join you to the pet park. Let me get my things in the back seat.”
Taeyong was about to speak when Taehee opened the window and scream out. “No! Y/n, you said you’re going with us!”
You cringed at how the situation become before glancing at Jennie who’s signaling you to leave immediately.
“Taehee, Y/n said she got something important came up and-”
“No! If Y/n is not coming, then let’s not go. Daddy, this is not what I want!”
Taeyong sighed heavily before opening the back seat door beside his daughter. “Let’s go, Y/n. I know you leave far from here and you didn’t bring your car. Just go with us, I’ll drive you home after we leave the pet park.”
You can’t disobey your boss and after looking at Taehee’s pleading eyes, you decided that you can’t win over the boss’ daughter. You get in the car as Taehee immediately hugs your hand, feeling glad that you finally agreed to join.
Jennie glares at her boyfriend angrily. Taeyong mouths, “What? This is my daughter’s day, not ours.”
You let Taehee out of her car seat and let her play with Jennie and kkoma. Taeyong walks with you behind them, as he smiles in satisfaction upon seeing two of his favorite people get along well. “I’m happy Jennie could play with Taehee like that. I think, going to the pet park today is the best decision I have ever made.”
You agree to what he said, but there’s a part inside of you that feels a little bit heavy upon seeing the strange pair hanging out together. You only smile as you watch Taehee running around chasing kkoma in the field. Jennie gives up running. Well, she’s wearing a 10 cm heels, of course, she can’t run freely like the little toddler.
Taeyong approaches his girlfriend, starting to talk to her and laughing around instead of playing with his daughter. You keep on watching the little girl running around until you heard her crying loudly.
“Taehee!” You scream as you run towards Taehee who just fell into the ground.
Jennie and Taeyong quickly take a look at the screams, and soon Jennie was left with nothing but kkoma’s leash and a groan.
“Hey, it’s okay. You’re gonna be okay, Taehee.” You look at Taehee’s injured knee and you sighed. You managed a smile and told her to only look at you, not the wound. Fortunately, she’s being a good girl.
“Taehee! Daddy’s here. It’s okay, baby girl.”
Taehee was about to cry at the sight of her dad, but as soon as kkoma sit beside her and sympathetically stay in her side, she becomes calm and her sobbing starts to stop.
“Mr. Lee, can you get me the aid kit in your car?” You asked calmly. He nodded and immediately runs off to his car. You glance at Jennie who’s only looking with her phone in her hand, probably not knowing what to do.
A minute later, she tried to walk across to you and Taehee, looking like a tired marathon player when she was only walking.
“I’m sorry but I can’t squat down, I’m wearing a skirt.” She said cockily, which makes you want to puke on the spot.
I’m also wearing a skirt, duh. You thought.
Another minute has passed, and Taehee stops crying and starts to play with kkoma beside her, you tried to cover the wound with your hand, as you saw Taeyong walking closer with the aid kit.
“There you go.” Taeyong watches as you treat his daughter’s wound, feeling embarrassed with his girlfriend only watching and fanning herself.
“Let’s go. We need to talk.” He drags his girlfriend to a spot where no one could see them.
“What are you doing? Did you seriously just stand there, wearing a shade, while my daughter is injured?”
Jennie’s jaw drops, “I’m wearing a skirt, Taeyong! I can’t squat down, are you looking down on me now? Oh, you think I don’t care about your daughter, huh?”
“I was not thinking about that but now I’m kind of convinced that you actually don’t,” He paused, before sighing in disappointment. “really care about my daughter.”
Jennie blinked before reaching out for his hand, asking for forgiveness. “I’m sorry, Taeyong. I just.. I just didn’t know what to do. It’s not like I don’t care about Taehee, really.”
“If you love me, you should have known what to do when one of my favorite people, my child, is injured. You should’ve known that Taehee is important to me, Jen.”
Taeyong decided to bring Jennie home by ordering a taxi for her. He knows that she’s probably not going to talk to him for a few days but he’s trying not to care.
He sighed heavily before going back to the field where you treated taehee’s wound. He smiled softly when he saw you and his daughter laughing together, amazed at how capable you are to make his daughter stop crying.
“Hey, baby!” He carries his daughter and lifts her up, playing with her as he loves to hear her giggles.
You smiled upon the view of the daddy and daughter moment, until you notice the absence of his girlfriend. “Mr. Lee, may I ask but where’s Miss Kim?”
He turns at you after giving his daughter a kiss, “Well, She went home. She’s not used to outdoor activities like this. I’m sorry that she didn’t know what to help earlier. Also, like what I said earlier, please drop the formalities when we’re outside the office like this.” You only nod at him, smiling politely at him.
“Daddy, I’m hungry!” Taehee shouts while rubbing her tummy cutely. “Alright! What do you want to eat, baby?”
So you ended up at an Italian restaurant with the father and daughter. Since Taehee wants to eat pasta, you ordered a creamy fusilli carbonara for her, while Taeyong ordered some dishes for you and him.
“Since we’re eating informally like this, can I ask something that I’ve been curious about?”
“Yeah, go ahead.”
“So, you said you can’t trust your daughter with anyone in her daily life, when you actually could send her to your parents. Why wouldn’t you do that?” You asked him carefully.
He sighs while looking at Taehee who’s playing with the napkin on the table. “I did. There was one time when I sent Taehee to my parents, but as a matter of fact, I’m not that close to my parents and my brothers. I was taught about business since I was in elementary school, so I always have this little thought that there isn’t any real love in my house except from my mother. My brothers’ thirst for money and power disgust me as much as I hate living in my own house.”
You look into his eyes deeply, feeling moved that he’s voluntarily opening up to you. “Too much information, right? Well, the point is I don’t find it comfortable to put my daughter in my parents’ house because she will be lonely there. Besides, my parents didn’t fancy my late wife. We were together without my parents’ permission so it was difficult for me and her until we had Taehee.”
You nod understandingly, feeling so warm inside. “It must be hard for you, Taeyong. It’s a good thing that you endured all of the hard times for Taehee, and now, as you can see, she grew up as a happy kid.”
Taeyong stutters, glancing at how your hand unconsciously reaches for his hand. “Y/n...” You looked at your hand on his, before your eyes widen in embarrassment. You immediately brush your hand away from his. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to...”
He smiled softly, “It’s alright. Thank you for understanding my situation. A lot of my friends say that I’m not being a good father for not spending lot of times with my daughter, but they don’t understand how hard it is to manage a company and taking care of a toddler at the same time, cause they have a wife.”
“Of course, they wouldn’t know. Well, I’ll always be available for Taehee. She’s a sweet baby, I love being near her. I’m always ready whenever you need my help.”
Taeyong never sees someone this dedicated to his daughter except you. He stares in amusement when he saw you feed his daughter delicately. He also noticed how much Taehee feels comfortable around you. This is why he trusted you so much with his daughter. But one thing that bothers his insides like butterflies are flying inside his stomach is your motherly feelings towards Taehee, the one he couldn’t find in anyone besides his late wife, especially Jennie. He finds it odd.
After the pet park ‘date’ with your boss, everything went back to normal, except your relationship with Taeyong. He kept wanting you to be very comfortable around him past office hours. He finds you as a friend, and a literal mom for Taehee. You picked her up from the daycare, it becomes your new routine. Sometimes, when Taeyong has to stay up in the office, you’d bring Taehee to your house and let her play with your twin nephews. Taehee really adores you, and his father weren’t so oblivious about that.
“Hey, Taehee said she wants to visit your nephews tonight, is that possible?” Taeyong asked with a visible pair of eye bags under his eyes. He looks so tired and uneven.
“Yeah, sure. Don’t worry, I’ll pick her up.” You smiled at him. “Mr. Lee, are you alright? You look tired...”
He gives you a soft smile as he replies, “Well, just a few problems with the diva. You know that. By the way, I won’t be able to come home tonight so can she stays in your place tonight? I’m so sorry...”
You nod, “That’s nothing to apologize for.”
His face lit up in delight upon seeing you agreed to help. “Alright, since I’ll be away for a moment, you can’t use my car. I’ll have Jaehyun to drive you and Taehee around, alright?”
So, you ended up waiting for Mr. Jung in front of the office lobby. You were replying to a message from your aunt when a beep from an expensive car chimes in front of you. “Hey, Y/n.”
You smile and bow to Mr. Jung. He’s a childhood friend of Taeyong, and he’s the closest uncle Taehee has among all of her father’s friends. “Good afternoon, Mr. Jung. Thank you for picking me up.”
“Aye, drop the formalities and just get in.”
Tumblr media
“Y/n! I miss you already!” You open your arms widely as the little princess runs towards you.
“Be careful, honey, or you’ll fall.” You uttered gently.
Jaehyun smiles softly behind the both of you as he plays with his car keys, examining you and his friend’s daughter. Jennie could never, he thought.
“Hey, is that uncle Jae?” She lets go of the hug and goes towards the cheeky man. “Yeah, he came with me to pick you up. Say hello to him, please?” Taehee only sighed before waving to Jaehyun weakly, clearly missing his dad more. “Where’s daddy?” She asked while pouting.
Jaehyun scoffs, “Hey, why aren’t you excited to meet me? Aren’t I the coolest uncle you have in the city?” Taehee shakes her head lightly, her head hurts upon seeing the overconfident man. “Let’s go, Y/n. I’m hungry.” She takes your hand and drags you softly to the car, knowing which car to go to for its eccentric color. “Hey, wait for me! Ugh, she really takes after her dad.”
You spoon the rice and pull a nice trick into feeding little Taehee. After five spoons and she nearly finishes her meal, Jaehyun wants to try to do a trick while feeding her. “Let me try,” he said. You nod and give the meal to him, while Taehee focused on her iPad. “Hey, taehee.. look at me. Here goes the airplane~”
The spoon ended up in front of her mouth, but Taehee keeps an unamused face as she eats the food. “What was that, uncle Jae? You’re so lame,” she shakes her head as she continues to focus on her videos. You hold your laugh, but people around the three of you laugh at the silly scene. Jaehyun covered his face in embarrassment, before whining to Taehee playfully. “Oh, taehee, can you at least work with me? Pretty pwease~” Taehee can’t help but leaves her iPad and laughs along with you. “Uncle Jae is so funny, and ugly hahaha,” she clapped happily while chewing on the meat.
Night comes, and you stay in Taeyong’s apartment again since he said he’s going to come home late and you haven’t cleaned up your apartment so you didn’t bring Taehee to your place. After putting her to sleep, you sit quietly on the couch with a snack you bought earlier to keep you up while waiting for your boss to come home. Thirty minutes later, you found yourself flinching at the sound of the door opened by the owner of the penthouse. You quickly tidy up the room and stand up to greet him, but when you do, you were met by a pair of lethargic eyes. “Mr. Lee..” you went up to him before helping him to walk properly.
Jaehyun groans behind him. “It is so tiring to bring him up here, even though they got a rich and pretentious ass elevator here. Today is the most tiring day of my life, and now I still gotta drive you home.” He complained. “Mr. Jung, you might want to rest a little bit. I’ll help Mr. Lee to change and stuff.” You said to him while assisting your boss to his bedroom. After helping him changing his shirt, you walked out of the room for him to change the rest of his clothes.
“Today is rougher for him, he... uh.. he caught his girlfriend cheating on him with his close business partner. I was lucky enough to catch him quickly earlier before he drinks his ninth bottle for the night. He’s a mess right now.” Jaehyun explained.
You sighed, “That’s so horrible. I don’t think I should leave him alone with Taehee. I’ll stay to make him some hangover soup tomorrow. Thank you for taking care of him, please have a good rest.” Jaehyun nodded before leaving the penthouse, sighing in relief that he finally gets to rest at home.
You knocked on his door, “Mr. Lee? Are you ready to sleep? I’ll help you clean your face.” There is no answer from him, so you decided to come in. Taeyong sits on the edge of his bed, his upper half body leaning on his hands, covering his face while small sobs could be heard. You gulped before approaching him. You say nothing but instead, sitting beside him and pulling him into your body, hugging him tightly. “I gave her everything, whatever she wanted, and she chose that bastard,” Taeyong mumbled and you only listen. “I accepted her even though she didn’t get along well with my daughter, but... that was.. man, that was terrible. This hurts more than when I lost taehee’s mom.” He sobs and you, once again, only listen.
“Y/n... can you take care of me tonight?” He asked before pulling away from your arms. You blink in confusion, “How can I do so?” you asked while stuttering. He says nothing but leans down to you, putting his lips on you gently. You close your eyes and reply to the kiss, enjoying the moment he savor you with his tongue. Taeyong’s drunken limb starts to roam around your body, and he found his hand near the hem of your shirt, before pulling away to catch a breath. “Can I?” He asked while panting. You only nodded, before letting him raise your shirt gently as he gives wet kisses around your neck, and you only moan softly.
Later on, you found yourself asleep next to him, hands and legs tangled up with each other. You smiled at the sight of your naked bodies pressed against each other, before falling asleep hearing the sound of his soft breath.
The next morning, you woke up at the sound of your alarm ringing and you know right away that it’s already six in the morning. You try to untangle your arms but the man you called boss won’t let you go. “Mr. Lee, I have to wake up,” you mumble softly. He only groans, “Urgh, five more minutes. My head hurts.” You smiled and put your free hand on his head, running your hand through his hair. “That’s why I need to wake up first, I’ll cook some hangover soup.”
A minute later, he let go of you with kisses and you only giggle to his touch. Taeyong pulls the blanket to cover himself more as he gets some more sleep as you wear his shirt and leave to the kitchen.
After cooking the breakfast with love, you went to Taehee’s room to wake her up, and to your surprise, she was already awake. You greeted her with a tight hug, before carrying her up to give her drink. “Y/n, you smell like daddy.” She mumbled. You chuckled awkwardly before putting her on her high chair, “Really? Maybe it’s because daddy lent me his blanket last night.”
To your surprise, Taehee sighed in relief while putting her hand on her chest cutely, “Finally daddy treat you right, I’m always upset whenever he let you sleep in my room. You know how small my bed is and he only gets to sleep on that big bed alone. But now I’m happy that you get to sleep on that big bed too!” You laughed wholeheartedly at her cute remarks while at the same time feeling relieved that she didn’t find it weird that you’re sleeping with her dad. “Oh, he lent you his shirt as well!”
After the little princess finished the breakfast, you let her take a shower by herself since she insisted that she’s now able to clean herself. By that, you also have time to wash the dishes while you wait for her. You were busy humming like a chirping bird while cleaning the dirty dishes when you felt hands surrounding your waist.
Taeyong leaned his head on your shoulder, before kissing your shoulder blades gently.
“You look good on my shirt.” He mumbled against your skin and you can feel heat surrounding your body. “But you definitely look good without any shirt on.”
You blink in nervousness, “I thought you wouldn’t remember yesterday’s event, since you were heavily drunk.” You feel him shaking his head, “Of course I would, the moment I got to taste your beautiful lips, that was when I sobered up.”
You blushed madly, at the thought of him fully sober when he did things to you last night. “The soup’s on the table, have it before it’s cold.” You stuttered. “No, I prefer you for breakfast.” Taeyong continues to tease you while caressing his thumb against your waist, until a loud cute voice comes from the sub room bathroom, indicating that the little princess has just finished her bath and needs her bathrobe soon.
You let go of Taeyong with a giggle, caressing his cheeks softly, “Your daughter needs me more than you do. Now finish your soup so your head will stop ringing.” He smiled and nodded at you.
“It’s weekend! What should we do today?” You asked taehee as you dry her hair with a towel. “Hm, what about coloring? And also, let’s have watermelon before lunch since it’s summer.” You nod, “such a perfect plan! I’ll inform your dad right away.”
So, you stayed another day in his house, but one thing, he hasn’t made it official yet. You convinced yourself not to expect anything from him but his affection to you convinced you otherwise. But time passes and Taeyong treats you the way he does to you that particular night. He remains professional during office hours but when you stayed at the penthouse for Taehee, he’d get super affectionate with you.
Taeyong hasn’t heard about Jennie nor he wanted to look for her. He let himself forget about her and relies on you, his lovely secretary, instead. He took you on several dates, but he hasn’t confirmed the real thing yet. You wait patiently for the right time he would confess to you, but reality slaps you so hard for you to wake up.
Today, which is Friday, you took a day off to help your family move, and Taeyong gladly let you go with a careful hug, avoiding being caught by the workers. Until you received a call from Jaehyun informing you that Taehee got injured while running around with her friends. It went so bad that she got a cast wrapped around her little arm.
You drove as soon as possible to the hospital, with flowers and a cute teddy bear in your arms, you run towards the room Jaehyun told you. You smiled as soon as you spotted Jaehyun in the hallway, greeting him in a hurry. “Where is she? I brought her-”
Jaehyun cuts you off, “Uh, Y/n. I don’t think you should come in right now, I think they’re busy.” He stuttered so much that you find it suspicious when he covers the door with his body. “What happen?” You asked. Jaehyun blinked before he sighed, “No, Y/n, I think you deserve to know.” He caress your shoulder gently before walking away from the door.
That was when you felt thunder wakes you up loudly, as the clear image of your boss and his ex-girlfriend leans against each other in front of the sleeping toddler, lips brushed against each other. You dropped the flowers and the plushie bear, tears dropping heavily down your cheeks.
“Y/n... are you.. are you alright?” Jaehyun asked you before putting your head up to him, distracting your stormy mind. “No, I... I, have to go.” You leave him and the things you brought for taehee as you run out wiping your tears harshly.
How can you be proud that he touched you so many times you thought he loved you or something. Reality hurts, and now you’re awakened with false hope. You weren’t disappointed with him, but you. How can you dream about being together with him, when in reality he was far away from you to reach him. He only has her in his mind, since she was the one suitable enough to match his class. You downgraded yourself to the point of your big decision today.
Monday comes, and you determined yourself to come to work, and to submit the resignation paper yourself to him. You couldn’t let personal feelings go through your work, so you decided to quit this job and find another one that’ll be easier for you to forget him. The only one who knew about it was Johnny. He tried to make you think about it twice but in the end, he respected your determined decision.
“Good morning, Mr. Lee, do you want to have some coffee?” You greet him formally, leaving him uptight about the awkward tension. “Oh, no, I’m okay. Please do continue your work. Oh, and Y/n, are you okay? You look unusually under the weather.” He asked. “I’m okay, thanks for asking. By the way, Mr. Lee, I’m here to submit a paper.”
He narrowed his eyes, “What paper?” You slowly put the white envelope on his table. “What is this?” His voice changed into a stern one, as he takes the envelope with doubt. “My resignation letter. Please put your signature under the stated letter, so I could apply for another-”
“Wait, no, are you gonna quit? I mean, why?”
“-job at the end of the month.” You finished your words without letting him cutting in.
“Why? Why are you quitting? Your work has been perfect and you never make a mistake, why in the world should you quit?” He is now standing up while putting his fist on the table.
“I made a mistake, and it’s a big fatal mistake.” You uttered. “What? What did you do? Tell me and we can work it out.”
“I made a big mistake by putting my heart and expectations on my own employer without realizing that it would damage my work value and now I will be no longer able to work properly under this company without having my own personal feelings intervene my work so... I chose to quit, and please respect my decision, Mr. Lee.” You try so hard to hold your tears not to come out but you have limits so, you decided to bow and leave the room quietly.
“Y/n, you’re okay-” Johnny passes by but you have no intentions to stop walking so you leave him behind and go forward to the nearest toilet. Now I have 2 weeks to work under his presence, so I gotta withstand everything, you thought.

“No, mom. I will not stay in the company. Besides, it’s a chance for me to try out new things out there. And if I can’t get a new career, I’ve got enough experience and value to apply as a secretary.” You explained to your mother.
“I know you can’t work under his company anymore, but what about his daughter? What about that child, huh?” Your mother’s words hit different, and now you fall into a deep silence. “Mom, I’m sure he can take care of her by himself and that she won’t be needing me that much. Besides, him choosing her shows that he didn’t actually need me to babysit his daughter.”
“Since when do you become this selfish? Are you even my daughter? You said you were the only one she knew and trusted, not even his rich and pretty girlfriend.” Your mother retorted back, and you just groaned in annoyance. “Did you just call her pretty?”
“Did you just roll your eyes on me?” She flicked your head with one hand while the other hand stays kneading the dough. “I’m sorry,” you apologized.
“I’m just telling you that Taehee has become my grandchild too, just like the twins, and the thought of her being lonely like she used to be is terrifying for me. I’m sure despite the pain you felt for her father, you’re feeling the same too. Are you sure to leave her alone as if you never knew her?”
You sighed, I don’t know what to do with that, mom.
And that is true, even though you continue working for the rest of your work hours before your resignation without Taeyong asking you to take care of his daughter, you still think about her. You think of how she might need you since her little hand was cast but there’s nothing you could do about it.
Jaehyun still communicates with you about her condition without her father knowing, so you feel grateful that at least you’d know what’s up with her.
On the day before your farewell, Taeyong got himself wasted on the bar, as much as Jaehyun could reminisce to the day when his best friend was wasted over a breakup. He only sighed upon seeing his drunk friend before paying the bills for him.
“I don’t know a well human being like you could be this wasted, of course, after knowing that spoiled little bitch.” Jaehyun muttered. Taeyong turns to look at him, “you called her what?” He mumbled.
“Yeah, Jennie, the spoiled little bitch, who cheated on you with your best partner.”
“Don’t call my girlfriend that unless you want a punch from me.” Taeyong balled his hand into a fist until his knuckles turn white. “Try to punch me with that weak ass punch, you idiot. Please reflect on what you’ve done.”
Jaehyun holds himself not to order a liquor since he’ll be driving his best friend back to his penthouse, and he praised himself for being a perfect bestie. “Dude, do you even know why Y/n quit her job?”
“No, I don’t understand why she would be that stupid to quit after I paid her million dollars every month.”
Jaehyun closed his eyes, trying hard not to punch his best friend into oblivion, “What an idiot, you slept with her, several times. Took her on a date and make her live with high expectations around you, and in the end, you chose that bitch who cheated on you? I can’t believe you didn’t consider yourself as a jerk by now.”
Taeyong sighed under the influence of alcohol, “Everyone makes mistake, and deserve a second chance. She promised me to get better, and who I am to reject her, a god?”
“I know you’re trying to be saint about it, but don’t let it makes you blind. For this time, please think of your daughter, and consider who has been next to you, and would she break her promise again? You have a lot of things to make sure, bud.”
After bringing Taeyong home, Jaehyun drove again to the hospital, where he asked his girlfriend, Chaeyoung, to stay with the poor little toddler. As soon as he opened the door, a crying baby and a frowning face of his girlfriend was the first thing he saw. “She won’t fall asleep,” she complained.
“Is she still looking for Y/n?” Jaehyun asked and Chaeyoung only nodded.
You rushed towards the hospital as soon as he called you desperately, looking for help. And it mesmerized both him and Chaeyoung that you managed to get her to sleep in only ten minutes.
After jaehyun and his girlfriend left, you caressed taehee’s back gently before you fall asleep next to her. You made sure to text your mom to bring taehee breakfast tomorrow so she’ll get to eat as much as possible.
The next day, you were awakened by the sounds of Taehee crying, and the first thing you saw was Taeyong with his angry-looking girlfriend. “No, just go daddy! I don’t need you! I have Y/n over here and I don’t wanna be with aunt Jennie!” She whines and you only shushed her with soothing words, and she managed to stop.
“Alright, we’re leaving. Y/n, uh... I’m sorry for keeping you busy with her.” Taeyong scratched the nape of his head before leaving with the girl.
After the pair leave, you managed to calm the wailing toddler down, and luckily she was fast enough to stop crying. “Taehee, why wouldn’t you want to be with aunt Jennie?” You asked carefully, while caressing your hand gently on her head as she cuddles into your side. “I don’t like her. She takes daddy from me, and daddy doesn’t care about it either. My arm is hurting every night, but daddy is busy working or playing with aunt Jennie, I hate it.” Taehee pauses as she sniffs, “Maybe daddy hates me.”
You let out a heavy sigh of your mouth as you get a little bit too emotional about the little poor girl. “No, Taehee, daddy loves you so much, but sometimes, he just doesn’t know how to show it.” You wipe her tears gently and make her look up to you. “He really loves you, he prepared a lot of things for your future. And as much as you need his love, daddy needs it too. Daddy needs aunt Jennie as much as you need him. You’re a good baby, Taehee. You’ve been supporting your daddy and he only needs to know that.”
“Does he look happier when he’s with her?” You were tongue-tied when she gives you the sharp but sad question. You don’t know the answer, because to be honest, you’ve been thinking of the same thing too. “I think he’s happier with me, and with you! He’s so happy when the three of us are together. Y/n, why won’t you be my mom?”
You blinked, startled by her sudden request. “Taehee, I am only being a helper-“
She starts to cry again, “Do you hate me too? Do you not want to be with me?” You quickly make her stop by rejecting her remarks. “No, Taehee, I want to be with you. We spent a lot of time together. I love you, baby, and you should never doubt that. Now enough talking about adult stuff, your arm will hurt more if we keep stressing about it. How about watching paw patrols while waiting for my mom to come here with your breakfast?”
Her eyes immediately lit up in delight upon hearing that her ‘grandmother’ will come with food. “Grandma cooked for me?! Yaay! Finally... urgh, The food here sucks.”
“Wait, I think I left my wallet on the sofa,” Taeyong mumbled as he roamed around his body to check every pocket he has in his clothes. “There’s no way I’d walk back again, we’re already in the basement.”
Taeyong sighs, “Alright, just go to the car first,” he handed in the car keys before running back to his daughter’s ward. He was about to open the door when he overheard the conversation going on between his daughter and you. “Does he look happier when he’s with her?” Taeyong furrowed his eyebrow while waiting for your answer, but then he heard nothing from you.
“I think he’s happier with me, and with you! He’s so happy when the three of us are together.” The words quickly ring repetitively in his head, which makes him question the same thing, does he look happier when he’s with you, and his daughter?
He walks back to the parking lot, hands empty without his wallet, but a brand new decision. He goes to the car with no emotion drawn on his face, but so many things in his head.
Where are we heading to? This isn’t the right way to the coex. Are you.. taking me home?”
“Yeah, I didn’t manage to get my wallet back so let’s just eat ramen in your house.”
Jennie narrowed her eyes suspiciously before Taeyong shuts down all of her thoughts with a glare.
“This is weird. I don’t like instant noodles, and you cooked for me right in my own house, are you gonna break up with me?” She joked. But then Taeyong nodded, after slurping his last ramen. “Yeah, after all, I do realize that I’m not exactly happy when I’m with you.”
Jennie loses her smile and she makes sure that she hears wrong from him. “Wait a minute, no, you’re only joking, right? No, yong, not cool. Not funny, you need to learn another joke.”
“No, I’m not joking. You never let me do whatever makes me happy. You always had me listen to you every time, like a puppet. And the most important thing, you never, let alone love my daughter, you never have any interest in her. How could I be with someone like that? You should’ve dated any single man without any kids, like that man you cheated me on with, Kim Jongin.”
Jennie lets out her tears fall like he hurts her intentionally. “I thought we talked about that, yong. You said you forgive me for that.”
“No, Jen. This is not working out anymore. We can’t work it out anymore.” Taeyong was already standing up, ready to leave the house when Jennie pulls his hand back tightly, preventing him to leave. “No, yong. I promise I will make things right, please. Please-”
Taeyong holds her hand for the last time, giving her the best of his smiles, along with his sad glaze over his eyes. “I’m so sorry for being a jerk, Jen. But you really need to meet someone else other than me. Someone who will love you fully for you. Someone who will not ask too much from you, like me. I appreciate all of our times together but we can’t be together, so, goodbye.”
A week after your resignation, you spend your time resting in your apartment. Taehee was discharged from the hospital and now she can move as much as she wants so you no longer stays with her. You never heard of Taeyong or his little daughter, the last time you heard of him was from Johnny, where he said Taeyong got himself drown in work more than usual. You, on the other hand, are the opposites of him.
You spend your days mostly laying on your bed, sometimes splattered on your sofa, stuck with Netflix and tubs of ice cream. Even though you weren’t really adjusted by only lying around sluggishly at home, the feeling of emptiness without your work and Taehee make you feel like doing nothing would be the best option.
You know very well that the moment you lay your application forms on any company mailboxes, acceptances will come to you like a waterfall. No doubt, you have the experience of working in a big and reputable technology company, and your educational background is no joke. But lately, you have no interest in working and trying out new things, like you used to be. It’s like you’ve changed into another person, and you, of course, find it weird.
Like now, in front of your full body mirror, you started to question your whole being the moment you grabbed your old party dress. “Seriously, who are you? You never go into clubs or bars in the past few years, and now you want to get drown in alcohol? That is so not you, Y/n.” You talked to yourself like a madwoman.
“Urgh, fuck it. I’ll get wasted tonight,” you mumbled.
Tumblr media
You engulfed your ninth bottle on the bar chair, eyes getting heavy every second as you put down the empty bottle. You were about to order more bottles when a stranger sits next to you. “I’ll pay her bills. Hey, miss. Even though you’re quite a hot mess right now, your look still being an eye-catcher.”
You narrowed your already blurry eyes at the unfamiliar man. “Uh, I’m sorry. I don’t drink with strangers.” You were about to leave when he holds your wrist tightly. “Where are you going? I’m paying your bills, at least chat with me here.”
You brushed his hand aside weakly, “No, I’ll pay-”
“Let go of her, you trash.” With a sudden force, you were pulled behind someone’s back. At one moment, you quickly notice the man in front of you from his hair color, and especially his peculiar scent. Lee Taeyong?
“I’ll pay her bills. Please be quick.” He brings you along to the cashier and as you watch his back under the influence, you can’t help but adore his familiar figure. “Those back... and those arms, used to hold me every night.”
“Let’s go, Y/n. Oh wow, your cheeks are so red.” He chuckles as he helped you standing properly by holding both of your upper arms. “Really? It’s because Mr. Lee is really handsome tonight,” you mumble sweetly. Taeyong chuckles louder when he heard the compliment out of your own mouth, knowing very well that you won’t exactly say that kind of thing when you’re sober. “No, you’re just really drunk, right now.” He noticed your skimpy dress before taking off his coat to cover your revealing outfit. “Let’s go.”
“Mr. Lee, why are you so perfect that It’s so hard to get on your side?” You mumble in your drunk state, while Taeyong only listens bitterly on his driver seat. “The harder I tried to chase you, you’ll be ahead further, away from me. You’re too far for me, Mr. Lee. I’m scared, about the fact that even though you’re not someone I can reach so easily, it’s hard for me to erase you from my mind.”
Taeyong was about to say something when you continue talking, “You and taehee, has become a part of my life that I can’t just erase so easily. Huh, am I too drunk? Am I dreaming?” You let out a heavy sigh as a drop of tear rolls on your cheek. “Can I actually say these things to you? Whatever, It hurts.”
This time, in his sober state, Taeyong fully understands that you truly had something special for him. Only now that he realizes that the only person he needed all this time was you. The only missing piece to his and taehee’s life was you. He no longer questions why you decided to leave your job. And finally, he understands what Jaehyun meant and he knows what to do.
“No, don’t go. I hate being drunk alone,” you mumble as you put your hand weakly in his, preventing him from leaving. “But, Y/n...”
“Please, I promise I won’t get wasted and be a trouble for you. Just this one night, please.” Taeyong sighs as he leads you back to your bed. “Alright, now let’s change your clothes first.”
He tries so hard not to touch you like he used to do when you sleep in his place. He smiles softly when he sees you shift around in your sleep. When he finished putting your pajamas on, he quickly covers you with a blanket before heading out of your room to check on his daughter.  “Hey, Jae. Thanks for taking care of taehee, is she asleep?”
“Yeah, yeah. I know, you’re gonna sleep there tonight, huh? Don’t worry, Taehee’s already sleeping with Chae in my bedroom. Take care of her, she deserves it. I’m always ready to help you, bro.”
Taeyong laughs when he hears his best friend yawns from the other side. “Alright, thank you so much. And also, I want you to arrange the whole thing we talked about yesterday. Please?”
“Dude, if only I can take back what I said earlier about always being ready to help you, I will. But no, alright, I’ll take care of it by tomorrow. You owe me a lot, dude.”
“I sure do, thank you a lot Jae.”
After hanging up the call, he goes back to your room, only to see you curled up against your pillow, snoring softly like a little baby. He lays down next to you, eyes wide awake while admiring your sleeping figure. “Why only now that I realize, that you were meant for me? I don’t deserve you, Y/n.”
Later on, he fell asleep with his body hugging yours, spooning you cozily and the warm fuzzy feeling makes you feel loved even in your dream.
“Good morning.” A familiar voice greets you the moment you open your eyes. “Oh, it’s Mr. Lee. Why would I hear him, especially on my bed? Oh, and now I can see him. Wow, hallucinations are either real these days.” You rub your eyes to get a better view, but he’s too good to be true. Taeyong stays still with a remaining smile on his face. “Am I still drunk? Ah, my head hurts.” You stretch out your hand to touch his face, and your eyes widen as you feel his cheeks against your palm.
“Mr. Lee?! Wait, you’re real?” You jolts up in shock as he chuckles sweetly. “You’re funny, Y/n. Yeah, I’m real. You’re the one who asked me to stay last night,” he muttered.
Distracted by his raspy morning voice, you think hard about how he ended up on your bed. But you were too drunk to remember everything. His face turns serious when he speaks up, “Don’t ever get drunk like yesterday, someone almost put something in your drink and I can’t even imagine what could’ve happened if I didn’t come sooner.”
You sat on the bar chair as he cooks some hangover soup for you, still confused about what just happened last night. Taeyong smiles upon seeing your puzzled expression. “So one of my business partner were having a celebration in the same bar last night, and he recognized you drinking alone on the bar, he only remembers you as my secretary so he contacted me and I thanked him a lot for that. If I was a little bit late, you could’ve been dragged to anywhere by that bastard.”
“Mr. Lee, we didn’t do anything last night, right?” You asked him bluntly, before covering your mouth out of embarrassment. Shit, I shouldn’t ask him that.
“Haha, no. You only asked me for cuddles. No more than that.” He put the soup on the counter before sitting down next to you. “Eat it before it cools down.” He gives you his sweet smiles as he pats the top of your head gently. You nod before you spoon the warm broth.
“Mr. Lee, is she okay with you being here?” you asked carefully. “Who? Taehee? Uh, I asked Jaehyun to take care of her last night, and I just checked up on her and she just ate her breakfast.”
You smiles bitterly, “That’s good, but I mean Miss Kim, does she know that you’re here?”
Taeyong sighed before licking his lip nervously. “Uhm, I broke up with her, Y/n.”
You tilt your head, how come I never know that...
“I realized that I’m never happy whenever I’m around her, and she was one of the reasons why I can’t spend more time with my daughter, so... I decided to call it off with her.”
“Ah, I’m sorry for you, Mr. Lee.” you bowed politely to him, feeling sorry that he had to end his 3 years relationship. “It’s alright. I’m okay, why would I be with someone who doesn’t cherish my daughter as much as I do, right?”
Seeing you staying still as you stare at nowhere, he takes it as a chance to give you a little bit of clarity. “Y/n, would you listen to what I’m gonna say?”
You turn your vision to him, and right at both of his brown orbs, you decide to listen without any expectations. “What is it?” You muttered. He closes his eyes while you set yours on him still. He gives out a small soothing smile as he speaks up, “What I did to you was unforgivable and shameful. I am very sorry for that. I regret hurting you and not realizing it. While being with her, I was blinded by greed and fraud. And maybe that’s why I couldn’t see what’s in front of me. My true tendency, my happiness.”
You were taken aback as you expected none of those words to come out of his mouth. His eyes wander to yours, looking for any answer from them. “Y/n, do you still love me? Do I... deserve a precious second chance from you?”
You gulped down in nervousness, “If I say I do, will I lose you again, Mr. Lee?”
His lips pull themselves up into a smile automatically at the sounds of your question, “I promise you no promises, Y/n. But I’ll hold onto you forever. Let’s not let go of each other.” He took your hand gently before putting a kiss on your delicate palm. “Don’t let go of me again, yong.”
He nodded as he leaned down to press his lips into yours, and you close your eyes along to the kiss.
Hours later, he brought you to a place where his daughter, along with Jaehyun and Chaeyoung have waited for you both. You feel your tears of happiness flowing like a river when the little girl holds the banner with a growing smile on her face, there written, ‘Will you be my mom?’
“Yes, honey. Yes,” you muttered as you hugged her tightly, before Taeyong joined the hug as well. “Well, our mission here is accomplished, so now please excuse me and my love to go on a nice date, Mr. Lee.”
“Haha, thanks Jae, I owe you a lot.”

hey hey I love your maiko fan art! I’m curious what are your personal maiko headcanons, if you have any, and if you don’t, what’s your favorite maiko scene/interaction (show or comics)? <3
oh my goshh i have some headcanons!
- zuko can be a grump and mai is very stone-faced, and they can both get a bit preoccupied by the negatives in life.. but when the two of them are around each other, they find themselves smiling more often! their pressures and stresses melt away much easier<3
- mai takes no shit, and she still doesnt as fire lady. she is stern and level-headed, balancing zuko’s fiery dedication and clear emotional investment in running the country. the entire nation is now a reflection of themselves and their administration, so they both take their rule very seriously. they work closely together when handling state affairs. whatever zuko lacks in political knowledge thanks to his banishment, mai makes up for (her father was a governor, so she was sure to pick up on some stuff), and whatever mai lacks in perspective, like in foreign affairs, zuko makes up for (since he’s the one whos traveled the world and interacted with people from all nations!) theyre totally a team!!
- mai likes the idea of traveling. its interesting and new-- traveling would definitely keep her from being bored. whenever she can, she accompanies zuko or other diplomats on their trips to boost relations or come to agreements with other nations. if she cant travel, then she settles for zuko’s stories about his wild adventures during banishment. they make whole days out of it, and zuko has her full attention. (”you were the blue spirit? tell me everything.”)
- mai shocks zuko with how quickly she learns how to use his dual blades. its no big deal, she insists, but zuko is huffy because when he tries throwing knives like her, he never gets it right (poor zuko, needing to put in the extra work to get something down-pat, as usual). mai is a patient tutor.
- sometimes, if things aren’t too hectic in the mornings, they help each other prepare for the day. zuko brushes her hair till its smooth, mai helps him into his robes (just like she did during the finale!) and sets his crown on his head. they share either a comfortable silence or quiet conversation about the agenda for that day.
- i read somewhere in the comics that zuko was “reintroducing classic fire nation culture to his people.” (i think it was in the promise). cue zuko trying to incorporate old fire nation slang into his vocabulary and mai finding great amusement in it. (”good morning, fire lord zuko.” “good morning.. [looking at scribbled writing on his palm] ....’hotman.’”)
-  with that being said, as the general fire public rediscovers the wonders of dancing (i like to think the influence of a whole graduated class of dance-crazy students, inspired by a kid from the colonies and his killer cave party, are prominent figures in the cultural revitalization), mai and zuko also discover that they are bad at dancing. ty lee is a natural at it, and secretly, they are envious.(though she would totally try and teach them how to dance if they just asked!!)
that’s all for now!! i wrote way too much omgg
hope you like my headcanons!! though, im pretty sure everyone has thought up something similar to these. its like theres a shared maiko psyche
here’s mai and zuko trying to dance HAHAHA

crush: a noun and a verb // fred weasley
Summary: The reader works at The Three Broomsticks and has a bit of a crush on Fred. Well, more than a bit. Worse still, he knows it and he is one cocky bastard.
Request: Hi I’m not sure if you’re taking requests rn, but if you are, then I have an idea for a Fred Weasley x reader where the reader works at the three broomsticks and has a crush on Fred. He knows this already and purposely goes there (sometimes with George and Lee) to tease and annoy her. Ty, I love your writings x
A/N: this was such a cute request
Reader: unspecified
Warnings: swearing :) and also idk playful hitting I guess? The word abuse + bit of a steamy make out (not too steamy)
Tumblr media
Fred Weasley was a menace to society, The Three Broomsticks, and, on a personal note, your entire existence.
You remembered the first time you met him all too well. You were behind the bar, somewhat overprepared for the influx of Hogwarts students you’d been warned about when two boys in robes sauntered in. They were obviously twins, handsome too and around your age with red hair and freckled skin and a distinct air of trouble. They laughed to each other as they walked over; one of them leaning on the bar to get your attention. What you didn’t realise until you got closer to the boy at the bar was how tall he was, or how lovely his dark eyes were.
“You alright there?” he asked, a charming smile on his face. You could feel your face heat up and whether he could see it or not, something about your bashful side-eye or immediate swallow to dislodge the lump in your throat gave away how nervous you were.
“What? Fine, yeah. Yes. You?” you blurted out. His eyebrows rose in amused surprise and you had to blink a few times before you remembered what you were being paid for. “Sorry, what can I get you today?”
His grin only widened when he saw how flustered you were, clearly enjoying that it was all because of him.
That was only the start of Fred’s monopoly on your attention. The second time he came into the pub, it was a sunny day and most students had gone elsewhere – the cosy atmosphere of The Three Broomsticks not a big seller in the sunshine. Not Fred and George though, they didn’t seem to care.
When they walked in, you couldn’t help but consider how attractive they were. Even after meeting them only once, though, you could tell them apart. You could tell which one had gotten you flustered at the bar and as you sat by the kitchens, ready for table service, it was hard to deny how attracted you were to him. Something about his confidence and the easy way he leant across the bar and the way he’d looked at you stirred something inside of you and whilst it wasn’t unpleasant, per se, you did not enjoy having a crush. You sighed, dropping your head into your hands and groaning in frustration. You had to curse yourself really: you get a new job and the first thing you do is go weak at the knees for a boy? Shameful, you thought.
“Y/N,” your boss said, handing you a plate of chips through the kitchen window. “I don’t pay you to sit there and think about how hard it is to be a teenager. Table twelve.”
Your expression turned dry at his words, but you didn’t say anything, only rolling your eyes when he couldn’t see as you picked up the plate and headed over to table twelve: a table crowded by two red-headed gentlemen with matching coats, butterbeer pints and, well, faces.
“Chips?”
You stood next to them; acutely aware of their eyes on you. The one that you’d spoken to before stared at you for a moment before a spark of recognition lit up his eyes and a smile lifted his features.
“That’s us,” they both said at the same time, moving their pint glasses out of the way. You placed the plate down gently, very much eager to leave without making a fool out of yourself by doing something stupid like throwing chips everywhere.
“You’re new here, aren’t you?”
Somehow, hearing him speak the second time only worsened your reaction. Your face felt like it was on fire and as you opened your mouth, every single word you’d ever known died on your tongue. You nodded. He noticed your stiff jaw and your avoidance of eye contact and he wet his lips, smirking.
“Well, we’re regulars so I think we better introduce ourselves; don’t you?” he stuck his hand out and for a moment, you just stared at his outstretched palm and debated whether it was good for you financially to leg it out of the pub. “I’m Fred.”
With a gulp, you wiped your palm quickly on your apron, hoping he didn’t notice, before you shakily grabbed his hand. His smile widened and you tried not to concentrate on it too much, already far too aware of his warm fingers surrounding yours. When he let go, the colder air of the pub was nice. It would be a lie, though, to say you didn’t miss the contact.
“And I’m George,” his brother said, folding his arms and looking at you with what could only be described as a shit-eating grin, a very different vibe to his brother. He made no movement to shake your hand and you were grateful. Given how completely nervous you were, you were sure it would’ve clammed up again instantly, had he offered.
“Y/N,” you nodded, smiling a little. Your nervous stuttering and sweating were starting to get on your nerves and you were keen to get a grip.
“You look a bit nervous there, Y/N,” Fred said, feigning mock concern. “Are you alright?”
In that second, you’d never been simultaneously more pissed off and attracted to someone. That cheeky bugger, you thought, teasing you for your crush on him. Annoyingly, his brashness only worked in his favour as you found yourself all the more attracted to him for it.
“Of course,” you tried to keep your voice level. You were failing if George’s amused smile was anything to go by. “Nothing to be nervous about, is there?”
You pursed your lips slightly, focusing on Fred for a fraction too long. If you’d looked any longer, though, you would’ve seen interest flicker in his eyes.
“If you’ll excuse me, gents, I’ve got to get back to work.”
As soon as you began to walk back to the kitchen, Fred whipped his head around to watch you with ardent curiosity. When he turned back, George was sending him a very deadpan, very knowing look.
After that, Fred came in every single weekend. Mostly, he came with George, but occasionally he would come alone. Sometimes he brought others with him. Many times, he bustled into the pub with a whole gang of students; one you recognised as Harry Potter, the boy from the papers. One very chilly day in December was no different. The pub was full of students trying to get in from the cold and Fred, one of them, as full of energy, as usual, steered a younger girl to the bar by her shoulders. She was much shorter than him but she had the same red hair and freckles. She was a great deal prettier too, mind you.
“Hello, my dear, dear Y/N,” he said, leaning on the bar as you cleaned a pint glass with a rag.
“Fred, what a pleasure.”
Your tone may have been sarcastic but you couldn’t hide the fondness that leaked through. It had been so long and yet you still couldn’t shake your crush. Of course, it didn’t help, though, that Fred never let you forget it.
“Y/N, this is my sister, Ginny,” Fred pointed at the girl vaguely, barely taking his eyes off of you as his elbows settled on the sticky wood beneath them. “Ginny, this is Y/N – the most beautiful barkeep in the world.”
You rolled your eyes at his words, used to his teasing. He always did this. He always complimented you to try to get a rise and, despite yourself, you couldn’t help your reaction to him. He thrived off your awkwardly shy expressions and shaky movements and your responses to his compliments spurred him on the most.
“I’m so sorry he’s your brother,” you said to Ginny, shooting Fred a dull glance. Her eyebrows, which had been tightly knitted together in a frown, lifted immediately and a smile spread across her lips.
“Me too, don’t worry. You get used to it,” she said. Her voice was surprisingly hardy for such a small girl and you wondered, for a second, what horrors Fred and George had put her through. You both rolled your eyes as Fred mocked hurt and with an awkward but sweet wave, she left the bar, probably in search of her friends.
“How about a free butterbeer for your favourite customer?” Fred asked, smiling cheekily. You bit the inside of your cheek, rolling your eyes again. You played along though, knowing that he enjoyed messing with you and you enjoyed, well, any time you could spend with him. You leant on the opposite side of the bar; eyebrows furrowed as you pretended to look around. You tried to ignore the close proximity between your upper arms.
“I don’t see Hermione Granger anywhere?”
He choked a laugh, unable to contain his toothy grin, obviously pleased at your answer.
“Now that’s just plain cruel.”
“And you deserve it.”
“Here I was, thinking you liked me.”
You narrowed your eyes at his sad puppy dog expression, barely noticing George approach. “And why would I like you?” you replied far too quickly. There was an edge to your voice, but you hoped he didn’t hear it.
“Very defensive. Did you hear that, George?”
“I did indeed, Fred.”
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think Y/N fancied me or something.”
You rolled your eyes, pouring a pint of butterbeer and pushing it over to Fred.
“It’s on the house if you piss off.”
Fred stood up dramatically straight, saluting you and shooting you a wink before walking over to where his sister had disappeared to, somewhere by Harry Potter and an assortment of other faces you recognised. The wink sent your mind into overdrive and with a marginally annoyed huff, you shook your head to try to dispel the heat from your cheeks; you hoped no one noticed it in the warmth of the pub.
“You know he fancies you too, right?” George asked, reminding you he was still there. He leant away from the bar on one of the beams holding the ceiling up.
“Pfft,” you reach for a glass, pouring George a pint. “Yeah, and I’m the seeker for the Holyhead Harpies.”
“Y/N, Fred’s dragged me in here nearly every bloody Hogsmeade trip for the last three years. Do you honestly think he’d do that only for a laugh?”
You shot him a dry look as you placed the pint on the counter.
“Fine, maybe he would. But not for you.”
You watched George fish through his pockets for some coins before offering them to you. You just shook your head, folding his fingers towards him and pushing the money away.
“He really does like you; he’s just a muppet that doesn’t know how to stop taking the piss. Think about it, yeah?”
Your nod as he left was absentminded, and you couldn’t help but stew a little on his words.
It wasn’t until you were ending your shift about a week later that you saw Fred again. He was wearing his Hogwarts uniform when he barrelled through the door and you nearly didn’t recognise him. You couldn’t deny he looked good and even as he stalked towards you, his snow-covered shoes ruining the floor you had just mopped, you had to admire him a little. Something about the rolled-up sleeves of his jumper and the red and gold of his tie was a good look for him and you could barely focus until he stopped right in front of you, almost trampling the mop in your hand.
“You know it’s not just a joke, right?”
It was then that you realised how serious he looked, and – wait, shouldn’t he be wearing a robe?
“Are you not cold?”
“Blood freezing, actually, but let’s not avoid the question, sweetheart.”
Too concerned about the weather and his lack of appropriate attire, you didn’t even register his words. You just grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him over to a seat by the fireplace. Without another word, grateful that everyone else had left for the day, you fetched him a blanket, tossing it around his shoulders before sitting down opposite him.
“What are you doing here? Are you even allowed here? Won’t you get in trouble?”
With the blanket huddled around his head, a boyish grin shaped his features and your insides twisted at how cute he looked.
“So, you care if I’m I get into trouble?”
You rolled your eyes, thumping him with the back of your hand. He rubbed his arm but his smile didn’t budge.
“I wanted to see you,” he admitted, an uncharacteristically shy look on his face.
“You wanted to see me?”
“Blimey, is there an echo in here?”
You went to hit him again but he moved away before you could. He tilted his head from side to side as if debating something.
“We were packing to go back home for the holidays and George told me that you think it’s all just a joke.”
“What’s all just a joke?”
You knew you were probably being dim but you didn’t understand what he was talking about in the slightest – you hadn’t expected to see him again until January and whilst that didn’t particularly fill you with joy, you’d made your peace with it.
“Christ, you are being thick today,” he said, barking a laugh. “Us. You think we’re just a joke. Me and you.”
Us? Your stomach turned inside out at the word. You hadn’t realised Fred thought there was a ‘you and him’. When you didn’t say anything, Fred looked down, messing with hte edges of the blanket between his fingers.
“And I couldn’t have you thinking that could I? So, I came down here-“
“Without a coat.”
“Without a coat,” he rolled his eyes. “Because I had to make sure you knew.”
“Knew what?”
You could feel your heartbeat in your ears and whilst you were partly sure of what he meant, you needed him to say it. Knowing your luck, you’d end up connecting the dots wrong and making a thunderbird out of a bowtruckle.
“That all those jokes and stuff-“ he looked at you then, letting out a humourless laugh. “I fancy you, Y/N, okay. In an actually quite big and honestly quite inconvenient way.  And I realised, thanks to George actually, that you didn’t know that.”
You didn’t speak for a moment, mouth dropping open.
“You what?”
Your voice was much louder and much more incredulous than you’d intended. “You’ve been teasing me for bloody years and what? You actually feel the same?”
“Well,” he said with a small grin. “I wouldn’t say the same, you do have very strong-“
You moved to hit him with the back of your hand again when he caught your wrist and pulled you toward him. The blanket shrugged off his back as you were pulled over him, your faces dangerously close together.
“That’s practically domestic abuse.”
You could feel his breath on your lips.
“You know,” he wet his lips slowly, eyes flicking down to yours. “I’m quite glad I came,” he said, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear with his free hand as you hovered over him. “Means I get to do this.”
His hand moved from behind your ear to your cheek and then he was kissing you. You would’ve been embarrassed at how loudly you sighed into his mouth had he not smiled, his hand abandoning your wrist to grab your waist, pulling you toward him so you were straddling his lap. Then his hands were everywhere, skimming up and down from your waist to your back to your hips; you could barely keep track as he stole your breath. The warmth of it all was perfect. His tongue lapped at your lips and your hands disappeared into his hair, pulling him closer. Against all that’s sane and good in the world, you both pulled away, breathing heavily. His hands settled on your waist as he stared up at you, eyes blown wide.
“Careful now,” he said, a smirk lifting the corner of his swollen lips. “Carry on like that, and I might think you fancy me or something.”
“You’re so fucking lucky I like you.”
And then you kissed him again.

ATLA Modern Au HCs
Aang
appa in this world is a giant shaggy dog, probably a mastiff
aang seems like the type to ride a skateboard, and also wear beanies, that type, he likes taking appa on walks (or well, runs) while riding, and still somehow never manages to fall
Aang is also the type to play a bunch of sports, not exactly competitive, but he just loves having fun, absolutely seems like the type to just be chilling one moment, and then get the ZoomiesTM the next, you know?
Katara
surfer chick, and very good (and competitive)
she seems like the type to be really interested in zodiac signs, you know? like i have absolutely no idea what any of it means, but i feel like she'd definetly know all her friends signs and whatever,
she's interested in nursing, but also takes karate lessons, and not just any regular defense classes, like, the brutal shit.
sokka
was absolutely a fuckboy, then suki broke his jaw, and it was basically night and day (basically just like the show)
it is absolutely not safe to roast him or his friends, he will fucking destroy you, and like, in seconds too (thank god he has strong friends, his tongue has written him some goddamn checks let me tell you)
he is way smarter than he appears, like, you'd be talking to him in lunch, or see him around, and have those expectations of what he's like in class, but no, he's much smarter than he let's on, and usually does really good in class (do NOT ask him to tutor you, though, he seems like he'd be bad at that, Katara is the safer bet)
toph
still blind, still like, a teenager, still an actual professional wrestler. like, seriously, i'm not joking here, she does moonsaults and german suplexs 30 year old men who weight 200 pounds, and you can't stop her.
goes to a public school even though like, her family has a wikipedia page dedicated to them, like she's Rich rich. but low-key about it cause she doesn't give a damn about any of that type of money, she had her documents forged in advanced so the staff and students didn't know who she was (she refuses to wear shoes, the school tried to make her, she wrote them a 500k check and told them to fuck off, the obliged)
for a blind girl, she likes really, really loud music, head thumping heavy metal music, she still somehow hears people when they call for her while she has her earbuds in, nobody knows how, she's like, a goddamn cryptid.
zuko
another Rich rich kid, also pretty chill about it, he also goes to a public school, not out of him rebelling, though, but cause his dad didn't bother to sign him up into any private school, it was azula who rebelled against daddy dearest and went to school with him (i like the idea of zuko and azula actually being like, close, ok?)
fiercely protective of his friends and sister, he has gotten into the Most fights in the school (and several known creeps, along with the weird science teacher, got attacked by a person in a blue demon mask, all ending up in the hospital, said teacher got fired for being...too close with some female students)
he's also skilled in like, tons of shit, he's taken kickboxing, played soccer, knows how to play a guitar, and still for some reasons tells everyone he meets that azula is the smart one.
Azula
she is, EVERYWHERE, smartest girl in the school, the best grades, in basically any and every club, head cheerleader, all of it.
to be clear, in this Au, azula isn't like, That different, she's still snarky, has a silver tongue that cuts like a knife if she wants, can probably kill you (and would) in most ways, and the smartest person in basically any given room, but she's also like, human, and something was different enough in their childhood which made azula realize that "maybe dad is wrong, and i should stick by zuko" and it's done wonders for her, despite their fathers displeasure (she is planning on killing him once she's 16 though, like, honest to god, has a google doc for it and everything, so i mean, the more things change)
she secretly is obsessed with pokemon, the only other person who knows is zuko.
every single one of them is Bi, or at least, very Very comfortable with their sexuality. like, sokka and azula seem very much like the types to lounge about, and cuddle with literally anyone. they also basically flirt with anyone, sokka and zuko have kissed several times, and like, they aren't romantically interested in each-other, it's very much "this is my husband sokka, this is his husband zuko" type situation. aang is the type of person who was like out of the closet at birth like, he never even considered liking boys and girls at the same time wasn't an option. azula and katara also founded their schools LGBTQ+ club, and anyone who tried to stop it's formation, or get it banned, got lit on fire.
there's other characters i wanna do, but can't think of anything for them yet,
ship wise, i'm feeling pretty feral, sokka is probably gonna be with suki (and get pegged) i'm feeling like katara would get a girlfriend in this particular au, who she'd be with idk yet. i'd also pair up toph and aang, but, zuko and azula, is what's troubling me, cause, i could pair azula with katara, i do like that ship, and i could do something interesting, like maybe pair zuko with someone strange like jet, or ty lee, since mai honestly kinda bores me, but i'm feeling...kinda zucest, here? like, i know, I Know. but, azula is the type who doesn't exactly understand right or wrong, and doesn't really get what society may feel as taboo, that's why her sexuality is so clear to her, and she's not afraid to be open about it, so like, she loves her brother, you know? this does not seem like something that'd be unusual for the character. my problem here is, what does this mean for zuko, especially when he learns of these feelings? well, from a very early age, they've relied on each other, dad basically disowned zuko, and mom was convinced azula was the devil, so when they needed comfort, they went to each other, once they realized they're being played against each other, and that's been the story since basically childhood onto high school, she's the one who tutors him if he falls behind on any subject, he's the one who helps her make more friends, even if he himself can be anti-social, they're both equally protective, if i was gonna go the Safe route, i'd say he should turn her down, and they'd have a stronger relationship cause of it, But... the devil on my shoulder is telling me he wouldn't be as against it as he should be, that it's more in character than i'd like to admit. and, while, obviously, the elephant in the room is still prevalent, i can't just, ignore what seems like the natural progression of these two characters given the situation i've put them in,
(please god don't kill me for this, i don't normally ship taboo ships like this, i literally just can't think of a way where i can pair them with anyone in this particular Au)
