Legillimens
Soooo I love the rougher, player Sirius fics, I really do. I have plenty saved in my likes. But I can’t help thinking that when this sweet man falls in love, he becomes the fluffiest and blushiest ever, even more than sweet baby Remus.
So here is some soft and fluffy Sirius, enjoy everyone!
Sirius Black x Legillimens!reader
Summary: Sirius is trying to come up with a way to ask you out, unaware that his thoughts are loud and clear for you to hear...
Sirius found himself to be a nervous mess around you lately, a fact that made you giddy. After all, it wasn’t every day that the school ‘s infamous charmer was reduced to a stuttering, blushing mess.
You and Sirius have been friends for a few years now – just friends – but in the last couple of months both your feelings have changed, taking a romantic turn.
It started slow for you, catching yourself stealing glances at his beautiful face during lessons, finding his jokes genuinely funny and lighting up every time you laid eyes on that gorgeous, radiant smile of his.
Before long, you came to the shocking realization that you have fallen for your best friend – and that you were surely doomed to a life of heartbreak seeing as he only thought of you as a friend and nothing more.
And unlike other girls, you could actually state that fact with full certainty.
You’ve been born with a rare ability : you were a Legillimens, meaning that you could hear other people’s thoughts, and not always intentionally.
It was a strange ability, one you’ve grown accustomed to over the years.
Many times you’ve wandered the corridors of the castle and heard what you thought were people right by your side, yet when you turned to look, no one was there. They were thoughts coming from different Chambers, from various people.
And such was the case with your best friend during your current lesson. You didn’t mean to pry, you actually did your best to avoid his thoughts as much as you possibly could at all times – something you did with all your best friends - in fear that you would intrude on their privacy, but now Sirius‘ were loud enough that you could hear them from the other end of the room you two were in.
‘Y/N, how about you and me an…no, scratch that. It sounds horrible. Come on, Sirius, you can charm every girl in this entire castle with one look, you can ask your best friend on a date!‘
The last comment got an eye roll out of you, but still, a huge, surprised smile tugged at the corners of your lips.
To say that you were taken aback when you heard your name would be an understatement. Did that mean he fancies you too?
You never thought that he would return your feelings, let alone want to date you.
But this shy side of him you were hearing now, this was quite flattering.
‘Hey, Y/N… yes, definitely better’ the voice in his head sounded less frustrated this time around ‘would you… maybe… if you want… uh… go out..on a date…with me?“
You had to physically restrain yourself from awwing out loud and answering his question since you were in the middle of Potions class, but you were beaming.
Sirius Black returned your feelings.
It felt wrong every time you overheard other people’s intimate thoughts, but this time the guilt was a lot smaller in comparison to your happiness.
He wanted to ask you out, but the thought made him nervous.
You chewed on your lower lip, lost in your mind, and didn’t hear the bell announcing the end of the lesson until a tall figure leaned against the wall to your right.
“Ready to go, Y/N? We have a few essays to write for tomorrow, so we’d better get started on them.”
You stirred back to reality and nodded, smiling in Sirius’ direction.
“Yes, of course, let’s.”
You got up and packed your stuff quickly, exiting the class with him and joining the rest of the Marauders on the corridor.
The second he laid eyes on you, James furrowed his brows.
“What’s got you this happy, Y/N/N?“
You shrugged and started walking towards the Library.
“Nothing in particular, Jamie, I’m just excited that the weekend in one day away and that we have a Hogsmeade trip too.”
He grins, one that Remus matched perfectly. You knew exactly what was on their minds without needing to look, they were excited to go to Zonko’s and stock up on prank items.
*
Three hours later, you let out a groan and sprawl yourself all over the library table.
“If I never hear the word ‘war’ again, it would be too soon”
The boys laughed and shook their heads, adding the finishing touches on their own History of Magic essays about the Giant Wars. James finished first and nearly jumped out of his seat when he saw the time.
“Blimey, I’m late again for Quidditch practice! This essay took forever. I’ll see you guys after!“ he yelled the last part on his way out, earning a bunch of giggles from the rest of you and a harsh shushing from Madame Pince.
You sighed and changed your position, your head now resting on your arms, yet this time you stole cheeky glances at Sirius when you were sure he wasn’t looking.
He is most handsome when he’s focusing like that, hair slipping in front of his face, shielding half from sight, tongue sticking out all cute when he’s deep in concentration...
‘Maybe ask her now. She’s right in front of you, come on, this is your chance…’
Sirius tilted his head and glanced at Moony, who was filling his third parchment with his beautiful and neat handwriting.
‘Or after Moony leaves too… or maybe kick him out somehow?'
You started giggling at his last thought and that got weird looks your way from both boys. You blushed bright red and shook your head, waving them off.
“Was trying to set up a plan for a prank on Pince. Though I think I may have gone too far and it’s not doable either“ you replied quick, to cover your mistake.
The boys have known about your gift from day one. After all, you weren’t about to hide from your best friends, were you?
But they were also counting on your promise to stay away from their heads, so they never worried about you reading their minds before, and nothing changed now. Remus shrugged and went back to writing while Sirius chewed on the end of his quill, a habit that you found quite adorable.
They were none the wiser at the cause of your giggle, and you breathed out a sigh of relief. If Sirius knew, this would have turned very awkward insanely fast.
Twenty more minutes have passed before Remus put his quill down and gathered the now four scrolls of parchment and stuffed them in his bag.
“I think I’ll go and catch up on some sleep now, if you don’t mind, I can still feel the last full moon’s effects on me” he said and muffled a yawn “Pads, you coming up too?“
Sirius hummed and looked up from his own essay, now covered in doodles on the edges.
“Hmm? No, I’m good, Moons, I’ll actually stay a bit more and compare some Charms notes with Y/N/N” he said and winked your way, making a faint blush dust your cheeks.
Moony smiled as well and got up.
“Suit yourselves” he said and he was out the door a moment later.
“So… “ you started and fumbled for your Charms notes in your bag, but Sirius’ hand on your wrist stopped you mid movement.
“No, I… the Charms notes were just a pretext, I’m sorry. Truth is, I wanted to ask you something and I wanted you alone for that” he finished in a whisper and his cheeks were now a matching shade of pink to your own.
You stifled a smile and offered him your full attention, raising a brow curious.
“Would you like to… maybe… if you want, I mean, you don’t have to… I mean… “ he groaned and buried his face in his hands “would you want to go with me… maybe tomorrow….“ he stopped again and his blush intensified, increasing your urge to aww and cover him in kisses.
His flustered state, as much as it melted your heart, made up your mind and so you put him out of his misery.
“I would love to go on a date with you, Sirius” you said soft, taking his hand in yours and drawing small circles on the back of it.
He frowned in confusion, which made a guilty expression appear on your face.
“Your thoughts have been pretty loud today, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to pry.”
Although his cheeks were beet red at this point, he couldn’t help but chuckle and pull you to his chest, holding you tight and kissing the top of your head sweet.
“Well, I’m quite glad they were, I don’t know if I’d have been able to properly ask you that question.”
You giggled and buried your face in his chest, inhaling his familiar scent and letting it wash over you, engulfing you in the most pleasant sensation you’ve ever felt.

Wrote this quickly without editing it, so sorry if there are any mistakes. I tried to go fast because I didn’t want to miss Training Prompt Tuesday. This is a classic scenario, done a million times, but I wanted to be a part of the club. Jily are in hiding in Godric’s Hollow, and they dancing in the kitchen, ft Baby Harry. Enjoy! @petalstosarah
Word count: 1253
James Potter had been feeling hollow for quite some time. His whole head felt like cotton, and Harry had been crying all night, the poor boy was still teething (more like seething from the screams he let out). This morning he had spilled his coffee on his favourite shirt, burned his eggs, stubbed his toe on the corner of the bed and then again on the kitchen table. Sirius was supposed to come today, but a scrawny owl had come bearing the bad news in a short note: Got a mission tonight. Last minute. Sorry, mate. S. Dumbledore had come some weeks before and had requested to take a look at his invisibility cloak, which he had agreed to without much difficulty, since he had been in a very good mood that day, but now there was no possibility for him to sneak out at night anymore.
Before giving the cloak away, Lily and him had agreed to one night a week each where they could get out calmly, on different nights only since the cloak wasn’t big enough for both of them. One of his happiest moments of the Godric’s Hollow week night was to crawl out of bed at midnight, well after Lily had fallen asleep and not long before she would be woken up by Harry and going oustide by himself to look up at the immensity of the moon, or the stars, or whatever element of nature catcehd his attention that night. It felt like Hogwarts again, hanging out on the grounds, running in the Forbidden Forest and losing the others behind him, rare stolen moments of true freedom. So, maybe sneaking out of his own house on (human) foot was less exciting, and less free, but it was the closest he got to savour liberty again.
His tea was scalding, and he burned his lips. He knew he should have opted for orange juice, he didn’t even like tea in the morning, and apparently it didn’t like him back!
The thing he liked to do the most to pass the time was slowly remodeling their house, working with spells and sometimes Muggle instruments if he was sufficiently bored. They had repainted Harry’s nursery recently and the paint fumes had stayed for a week, so their son slept in their room with them, and sometimes Lily would place him on her chest or his, and they would all sync up their breathing, happily, serenely. The only times that they were completely safe from their nightmares, from the people they had killed, from the thought of suffering the same fate. Now Harry only slept in their room, since he cried a lot less when his parents were by his side, protecting presences.
He was trapped in here, trapped in the house he was trying to better everyday, but still couldn’t compare to what freedom and exaltation had tasted like. He loved his family, and he would have died for them, he would have, but sometimes, the most horrible part of him, the cruelest, meanest part of him wished that he could run away, go and live his life. Of course, he would never do it, never abandon anybody. The faint taste of wishing it was enough, like a buffet for the mind. Everytime he surprised himself daydreaming about it during the day, it felt like the biggest of betrayals, and had to go in the shower to stop himself from crying. One time, he had been nailing a painting to the wall and his vision had blurred after dreaming of a delicious beach, waves licking the sand, and he had almost nailed his thumb to the wall. Even with the help of magic, the bruise took six days to heal.
Sometimes he was afraid Lily could feel it, could feel his restlessness, his wish of going back to battle, going back to his previous life, he was scared she would think he would ever leave her behind. He loved her too much for that, but he didn’t know how to say it anymore. He could play at being himself all day, play at being happy, play at being funny and charming and bubbly, but before going to bed he would be too tired to act, and he knew she could feel the weight of his shoulders dragging towards the floor, the inherent heaviness of the prison they called home.
He wondered how she could bear it, bear being a mother and a wife and so kind and funny and playful. She didn’t need to act, didn’t need to force herself to do anything; she just was. He envied her for that, but he loved her even more for it. Lily was unbelievably strong and this lack of freedom was his own weakness, not hers.
He watched her in the living room watching tv with Harry, laughing at some truly horrible cartoon jokes. He went and sat with them, sat there stewing in his anguish, his intensity, his melancholy, trying to radiate only the love he had for them and to exorcise all of the worst parts of him. She let her head fall on his shoulder and they sat there, in front of the tv, Mama, Dada, Son. A happy little family who loved each other above all else.
When it was time for Harry nap in the afternoon, James announced he was going to try and get some sleep too, since he had had a terrible night. Lily looked up at him from her book and smiled tenderly.
He got up to the sound of music (not the kind that made the hills come alive, but close enough) (Lily had showed him The Sound of Music last Christmas Eve, tucked up in bed at her parents’ house before Harry had been born.) Some Beatles song floated in the air coing from the radio in the kitchen, and it was like waking up and walking into a totally different dream. The house smelled of cookies, which Lily had made to entertain herself (she was a bit of a stress baker) and she was all dressed up, as well as little Harry. She wore a red dress without sleeves that showed off the freckles on her shoulders, a dress that absolutely clashed with her hair, currently up in an elegant bun on the top of her head. Harry had a shirt on that normally came with a tie gifted to him by his Aunt Petunia, but that Lily had let the tie lie in the back of his wardrobe. There was a bit of chocolate smeared at the corner of his mouth. Everything felt a little bit like magic.
‘Place your hand in mine,’ said Lily softly, holding out her palm for him. ‘Please, hold my hand.’
She twirled him, and he was still in his pajamas, which consisted of a big long-sleeved grey shirt and plaid bottoms, all mussed up hair and hoarse voice. She looked like a princess, and when she turned, the skirt of the dress swished with her every movement. Little Harry could barely stand, but James took his hands in his and tried to get him not to lose his balance, swaying just lightly enough for it to be considered dancing. Finally, he took him in his arms and placed his other hand on Lily’s waist, slow dancing to upbeat and slow songs alike.
There was a bubble, a bubble of magic, but not the kind of magic he was used to. This was different. This was the only kind of magic the Muggles ever knew, but from his perspective it didn’t look all that bad.
And so they danced.

The Prince With A Frozen Heart
“There once a boy. You might even say he was a prince. He lived in a huge, cold castle. His parents were horrible to him. They taught him to hate and to hurt. And when they saw that he wasn’t like them, that he didn’t want to hate and hurt, they turned on him. They treated him like an outsider. And while they used their fists and magic, they also used their words to hurt him. And with every word they used, something happened. His heart froze and hardened. His mother told him that he was a disappointment. And his heart grew a little harder. His father told him that he was worthless. And his heart grew a little harder. His brother told him that he hated him. And his heart grew harder and colder. By the time he was to leave to go to school, his heart was covered in ice. It hardened to protect himself from the bad things. The ice prevented anger, sadness, and hurt from coming in. The only problem is that when you close your heart off to the bad, you also close it off to the good. You can build fences to keep away sadness. But you’re also keeping away joy. So then the boy left for school. Just a lonely prince with a heart of ice. He didn’t laugh. He didn’t smile. And most of all, he didn’t let anyone in. No one. When he got to school, he met two boys. One was loud, laughed too much, and wore glasses. The other was quiet, intelligent, and covered in scars. The prince avoided them. He was young and didn’t feel anything. They made jokes to make him laugh and included him in their games but he refused to let them in. Because when you let people in, it’s easier for them to hurt you. Day after day, night after night, the two boys tried to get the prince to open up. But nothing seemed to work. They decided that he was worth it. He was worth not giving up for. So they didn’t. And eventually, on a cold morning, the boy with the glasses made him laugh. And a little hole appeared in the prince’s heart. A hole so small, he didn’t know it was there. The next day, the prince stayed in bed sick all day. And when the boy with the scars came back from class, he handed him the notes he took. The prince was confused and asked why he would take notes for him. And the boy with scars gave him a shy smile and said “because we’re friends.” The prince was shocked. He had heard of friends but he had never had them before. And the hole in his heart widened a bit more, letting in the tiniest of lights. Then one day, the prince had one of his bad days. It was one of those days where he woke up and didn’t want to leave his bed. He didn’t want to eat. He didn’t want to talk to anyone. He wanted to lay in bed and let the ice inside of him swallow him whole. The boy with the glasses and the boy with the scars asked him what was wrong. But the prince ignored them. The two boys asked him what was wrong. And the prince turned his back on them. But the boys refused to give up on him. So they asked once more. And the prince yelled at them. “Leave me alone.” Both boys were taken aback. He had never raised his voice like this before. His voice was laced with hurt and loneliness. The boy with the glasses, the braver of the two, stepped forward. He planted his feet firmly on the ground, squared his shoulders, and said “no”. The prince looked up at him in confusion through watery eyes. “No?”, the prince repeated. This time, the boy with the scars stepped forward. “No. We’re your friends. Even if you think you’re okay, you’re not. And we’re not leaving you.” The prince scowled and turned away from them. He could feel the tears rising and the old wounds opening. Suddenly the boy with the glasses and the boy with the scars threw their arms around the prince and hugged him. The prince struggled and tried to push them off but the boys just hugged tighter. They whispered words of comfort into his ears and told him everything they thought of him. They told him he was brave. True. Intelligent. Worthy. Valuable. And most of all, he was their friend. They squeezed and squeezed and squeezed. They poured love upon love into him. Until suddenly-“
Sirius slammed his hand on the table.”CRACK”
Harry yelped and jumped out of his chair. Then he looked at the wild grin on Sirius’ face and laughed maniacally.
Harry pushed his arm. “Stop that! Finish the story.”
Sirius let out a loud laugh. “Okay okay. Where was I?”
Harry leaned forward, paying rapt attention. “There was a crack”.
Sirius ruffles his hair. “Yes. There was a crack! The prince’s heart, once covered in ice, cracked open! The ice shattered and left his heart open and bare. Stars and constellations poured out from his heart and there was his love. And he felt everything. He felt the sadness. He felt the anger. He felt the fear. But they were no match for everything else. He felt the joy. He felt himself laugh for all the times he couldn’t find humor. He laughed so hard that tears sprung to his eyes. He felt warmth spread through his limbs as he realized that he had friends. Actual friends that cared about him and loved him for who he was. They loved him and believed in him, even after he pushed them away. They fought for him. And that was the day the prince’s heart broke open and he learned that love is the most powerful force in this world. It is the deepest, most ancient, most primordial force in this world. The prince still had his scars that hadn’t healed. But he learned that you heal a lot faster when you’re surrounded by people that you love.”
Harry looked at him with wide eyes. It didn’t matter that he was 15 years old. He loved listening to his godfathers stories. Sometimes if he was in a good mood, he’d tell stories about his father and mother.
“So the point of the story is that if you close yourself off from the bad things, you’re also closing yourself off from the good things?”
Sirius nodded. “Yeah. A lesson I took years to learn is that life can’t always be happiness. There has to be sadness too. Because if you just have happiness, how will you know how good it is? How will you appreciate it and feel it so much deeper, if it’s all you know? Happiness and sadness balance each other out. You need both. And if you close yourself off from either, you risk losing yourself. And the biggest lesson is that love conquers all. Even death.”
“Did you know that the first Greek God was Aphrodite, goddess of love? She was the first and most ancient goddess. That just proves how powerful love is.”
Sirius grinned and felt a sense of pride rising in him. “I did know that. You’ve been studying the mythology books in the library?”
Harry blushed a little. “Yeah. I liked the mythology behind your name and I thought it would be cool to learn some more.”
“That’s great Harry! James loved mythology too. He wanted Remus’ nickname is be “Romulus” instead of Moony.”
“Since we’re talking about mythology and Aphrodite, did you know that she born from a Ouranos ballsack that fell into sea foam?”
Sirius let out a barking laughter. “Harry?”
“Yeah?”
“Go to bed”
Harry scooted out of his chair. “Yeah! Good night!”
After Harry had trotted up the stairs, Remus poked his head out from the kitchen where he had been eavesdropping.
“Really? You get to be the prince but I’m just the boy with the scars?”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “It was a metaphor Re. It’s just a story.”
Remus raised his eyebrows and smiled. “Yeah? I prefer the version where boy with the scars beats the shit out of the prince with a big head.”

Chapter 1 - The Arrival

A/N: this is set at the start of the marauders 6th year
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With a clap of thunder and a single flash of lightning, four boys fell directly from the sun, slamming onto the concrete ground beneath them.
As their backs hit the pavement, their mind whirled through memories that weren’t their own. A castle up on a rocky cliff, rooms full of magical equipment, a forest with danger at every turn and a fiery redheaded girl that made James blush.
Groaning, they all picked themselves up, dusting their clothes off.  Peter shielded his eyes and looked up at the sun, grumbling “Why did they have to go and drop us from the fucking sky?” Remus opened his mouth to respond but something hot and soft started falling from the clouds.
James held out his palm to the sky and watched as a burning piece of ash floated down onto his open palm. He studied it, visibly confused. “The sky is.. raining fire?”  “Nah mate” Sirius said with his arms outstretched, head tilted towards the sky “The worlds shuddering at the weight of our power” At that, the other boys started to spin in the fiery rain, laughing as they caught the embers on the tip of their tongues.
Unbeknownst to them, an old man had heard their laughter and was walking up to them, smiling softly. “So you must be the fallen gods” he stated bluntly, capturing their attention. A flash of panic flitted across the boys’ faces as they searched for an excuse. “Oh no,” James said quickly, leaning against Remus’ shoulder. The boy in question had just started picking the flowers out of his hair, which was not helping to sell their lie. “We are just four normal boys casually dancing in the burning rain.” The man laughed, looking at them with a twinkle in his eye. “I do not think I am mistaken, Hecate told me you would be coming soon.” Peter scoffed, “Psh Hecate. You should never trust the goddess of…..” He paused at this, looking at James in wonder who was waving his arms around haphazardly. Realising his mistake, he tried his best to backtrack.  “Wait I mean, who's Hecate? She sounds dumb.”
Right at that moment, one too many ashes had landed on Sirius’ skin, activating his flames.  With a big flash, he turned into a humanoid fire. The flames gradually subdued, leaving a sooty boy who looked at his hands in shock before turning his gaze to blood brothers, eyes wide. “That wasn’t supposed to happen..”  James’ shoulders slumped, running a hand down his face as Peter ducked down to hide his grin. Remus finally looked up from picking out the flowers from his hair that now lay in a pile around his feet. Dumbledore raised his eyebrows at him. “That uh.. That doesn’t happen often...” he explained, shaking his head at what a mess they all were.
“Would you like to take a walk?” Dumbledore inquired. They slouch after him, visibly relieved that he didn’t question their insanity further.
They walked in silence for a few minutes before Dumbledore spoke up. “Are you boys familiar with… the tale of the Children of Hecate? It’s an old one.” Sirius laughed harshly at this “dude, we are a thousand years old we know all sorts of tales you couldn’t even dream up.” “You never answered my question young god.” “No… we aren’t” Dumbledore smiled, pulling out his wand. “I thought not.” He waved about his wand and silver mist broke out of the end, morphing into people, animating the story being told.
“A long time ago, there was a woman.  Cast out by the gods from helping out a paranoid mother, she, like you today, fell from the sky in a blaze of burning rain. Filled with hate and grief, she vowed to anger the gods in any way possible. For a hundred years she wandered this earth aimlessly, occasionally accompanied by Thanatos who came to reap the mortal souls. One day, she stumbled across seven mortals, cowering at the feet of Death, begging for life. Now, this woman had traveled among us, watching all our struggles and misery. Listening to our heartbreak and treachery. She took pity on these mortals and stepping from the shadows for the first time in a century, she addressed the seven. Pushing past Thanatos, she knelt to their level and placed a hand on the cheek of the child in front of her. Smiling kindly, she knew what to do to help them and fulfill her vow.  Reaching inside of her core, she drew out seven silver wisps. Weaving it around the mortals in front of her. “Upon you I bestow the power of the gods,” she whispered, transforming into her godly form. “Follow the path this shows you and life will come.” As the mortals scampered away, hands smoking and eyes dancing, Thanatos turned to her furious. From then on, Hecate was forced to spend the rest of her immortality guiding demigods, gods and mortals along the three crossroads. The mortals she blessed, though some may say cursed, used the powers how their minds begged them too, some for good, some for evil. But the magic went on, passed from generation to generation, family to family and will do so forever. Among all these powerful witches and wizards, as we call ourselves, were two men and two women. Born with magic unrivalled by anyone but Hecate herself.  They drew together and formed a school now known as ‘Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’.  From then onwards, magical folk have been taught, honing their abilities to perfection. Carrying out the vow Hecate made many eons ago.”
The boys were speechless. Remus pointed to Dumbledore then his wand and back again. “So you’re…” “Yes” Dumbldore answered, turning towards them and giving a short little bow, “I am a descendant of Hecate.” “And you want us at this school of yours?” “With Hecate's blessing, yes.”
Peter cuts ahead of his friends, raising his hand. “Interjection! How the hell are we supposed to get magic powers?”  Dumbledore smiles at him and holds his hand. “If you four trust me, I will take you to where everything will be revealed.” The godlings look at each other before holding onto the man in question, watching as he whispers something, waving his wand around.
The boys feel a tug on their abdomen and gasped as the world around them blurs, like they are on a moving train. They felt themselves morph, as if they were travelling through time. Their very fibre being pulled and torn. Before long, the scenery around them started to solidify, changing into a strange room with silver instruments and hundreds of portraits everywhere. “What the FUCK was that.” Sirius shouted from a pile of broken items he had staggered into, being vulgar as always.  Dumbledore merely dusted himself off and fixed his robe before moving behind the desk. “That, dear boy, was a form of magical travel called apparition.”  Peter lay on the floor, gasping for breath. “I think I prefer falling from the sky.”  “And I prefer lying on a couch throwing grapes at the nymphs.” James groaned, stretching out his back.
“So magical powers?” Remus asked, walking up to Dumbledore's desk as his friends gazed at him in shock, wondering how he could be fine after that supposed ‘hell’ they just went through. “Ah yes!” Dumbledore clapped his hands together, reaching into a drawer just behind his desk. Out of the drawer he pulled four glasses filled to the brim with grey smoke.  “Within these glasses contain the exact wisps Hecate used to infuse those seven mortals with magic. Take this and it shall do the same.” “I’ll drink to that.” Says Sirius, pushing past Remus and picking up a glass.
In one go he downs it, smiling devilishly. “See men? All fi-” Suddenly, Sirius’ face freezes in a half smile as his hands fly up to throat. He falls to his knees, coughing horribly, eyes glowing silver. His whole body twitching uncontrollably.  As quickly as it started, it was over. He lay there gasping, trying to formulate a sentence. “That was delicious…” he wheezed “110% recommend you give it a go.”
After seeing what happened to Sirius, the other boys were more hesitant to take even a sip.  But one encouraging smile from Dumbledore made them drink it, going through the same process as their blood brother.
When they had finally recovered from the side effects of the potion, Dumbledore was reading through a small scroll covered in glyphs. “I just need to ask your four a question in order to secure your stay here at Hogwarts. Now this may feel extremely unnatural, since I am jogging memories that don’t actually exist.”
He looked up from the paper, his eyes holding that twinkle they had seen before.  “Boys, what house were you sorted into six years ago?” The godlings felt their soul pulse for a second and their mouths fell open of its own accord.  A movie tape started running through their mind, twisted and slightly burning. Back and forth it ran, so fast everything was a blur of colours.  Finally, it landed on a vision of their younger selves sitting on a stool in front of hundreds as a hat screamed out something. The boys on the stools were faceless and the edges of their bodies were blurred, as if someone had edited them into a scene. They felt something invisible reach towards the memory and rip it out of the tape, forming it into words. Speaking together, they all said “Gryffindor.”
Their souls pulsed once more, and they were brought back to reality, grabbing their heads and groaning. “I swear if we have to go through that everytime we remember some pointless memory-” Sirius spat, grabbing at his hair like he was trying to rip the headache out. “No, do not worry, Sirius. This should be the last time it will happen. You will feel dizzy and weird when experiencing a memory though, since they were forcibly planted into your mind.”
“That reminds me,” Remus interrupted, wincing as he stood up “How come we aren’t going dizzy from the sight of you? Something tells me we should know you even though we don’t .”  Dumbledore laughed “My, aren’t you inquisitive?”  “That's Remus for you.” said Peter smiling fondly at the boy in question. “Has to know everything about a subject the moment he finds out about it.”  Remus made a face at him before turning back to Dumbledore, eyes hopeful.  Dumbledore smiled kindly at him and continued. “That’s because I personally asked the gods not to include me in your implanted memories. I would prefer to get to know you as the boys you are now. Not what fake scenarios portray you as.”
The godlings look at each other, questions of trust in their eyes.  Taking the first leap of faith, James extended his hand for Dumbledore to shake. “You have left a good impression on us sir. You have earned our trust.” Delighted, Dumbledore shook his hand, once again smiling kindly at them all. “Now, I must show you to your dormitories…”
“No need Sir.” Sirius said, finally standing up. “We can get there just fine.”  They turned to leave, heading for the office door. Dumbledore cocked an eyebrow at their departing figures. “You may get lost”
James stopped by the door just as the others went through, chuckling.  Turning around he winked at Dumbledore.  “That’s the thing about us chaos gods.” He said, grinning mischievously.  “We have impeccable navigational skills.”
Mistletoe
Day 5 of the holiday prompt list posted by @remus-john-lupin  I also did not read this again for mistakes so pardon those... anyways,
 The plan was christened as Sirius Black’s Five Step Method to Get Remus Lupin to Date Him. Or as James called it, Desperation at its Finest. It came together on a rather ordinary Wednesday evening in the dorm, where Sirius was lazily flicking sparks at James’ feet as the other boy slept. The appeal came from the quiet giggles and words like “Lily, stop that tickles” James would mumble sleepily, delighting Sirius to no end. This was prime blackmail material that Sirius would most definitely use as an advantage in the next coming weeks.
Sirius had to bite his sleeve to keep his laughter from waking him up when James started puckering his lips against his pillow. Though, it turned out to be all for naught when Peter threw the door open with a bang.
“Whazzat?” James sat up on his bed with his wand held out, though he held onto the wrong end. Sirius quickly hid his own under his duvet and turned his attention towards Peter, who was out of breath and full of sweat.
“SIRIUS!” Peter shouted in a way of greeting, dumping his bag on the floor and slamming the door shut once again.
“PETE!” Sirius met his words with equal enthusiasm, though he had no idea what this was about.
“JAMES!” James joined in, always ready to match his friends energy. Peter ignored him.
“Sirius, I just overheard a conversation in the library and Emmeline Vance is planning on asking Remus to the Christmas dance.” Peter let out in one breath as he searched through his trunk, pulling out a piece of parchment and a quill.
“What?” Sirius and James both yelled in a panic, to which Peter explained everything he had overheard in the Library. Emmi’s Hufflepuff roommates had apparently talked her into asking Remus to the dance after Emmi herself complained about not knowing who to go with. Sona Pearce had suggested Remus because he was tall, kind, smart, and most importantly, mysterious as hell. The rest of the Hufflepuff girls had giggled at that, talking excitedly about how quiet and secretive Remus was. It was decided then, and declared by Emmeline that she would ask Remus Lupin to the Christmas dance. Peter had immediately run out of the library all the way to Gryffindor tower.
And so that’s how Sirius Black’s Five Step Method to Get Remus Lupin to Date Him was born. Peter, as the scribe, James as the voice of reason, and Sirius as the anxiety ridden idiot in love. Together, they came up with the perfect plan to squash all of Emmeline Vance’s hopes and dreams. (Though, Sirius didn’t think she’d be too sad in the end, since she apparently didn’t have an actual crush on Remus.)
Sirius Black’s Five Step Method to Get Remus Lupin to Date Him (Desperation at its Finest) ((Shut the fuck up, James))
Step 1: Make sure Remus avoids running into Emmi Vance at all times.
Step 2: Subtly show Remus that I, Sirius Black, am perfect boyfriend material.
Step 3: Ask Remus to the Christmas dance.
Step 4: Get Remus under the charmed mistletoe and kiss him until he forgets his name. (Stick your tongue down his throat) (Gettin’ Jiggy with it) (Peter, for the love of God, please never say that again.)
Step 5: Ask Remus on a date, become boyfriends, fall in love, get married, live happily ever after.
The first steps were surprisingly easy. Sirius managed to execute them without any complications, which was rare for a Marauder’s plan. The map came in handy when the first step was still in motion. All it took was a quick glance at the map after each class to make sure that they wouldn’t run into Emmeline on their way to the next class. A couple of times it was unavoidable, but Sirius would usually engage Remus in a conversation so he wouldn’t notice Emmeline trying to get his attention. And for the one time that Emmeline actually tried to come up to Remus and talk to him, Peter set off a well-timed dung bomb that set everyone running for fresh, clean air. He’d gotten detention for that, but Sirius was grateful enough to finish his potions homework for him for the next week.
Step two was just as easy since Sirius usually complimented Remus on a daily basis and would help him with Transfiguration and Runes (the only classes Remus didn’t have the highest marks). He stepped up the game just a little by giving Remus his favorite sweets from a secret Hogsmeade run and organized his part of the dorm room before and after the full. Remus hadn’t acted like it was out of the ordinary, but he did thank Sirius and even gave him one of those secret smiles the two usually shared, so Sirius counted it as a very successful win.
Sirius was almost sure he failed the whole thing when it came to the third step, though. Actually asking Remus out brought up nerves that he usually only felt right before quidditch games. It ended up being a spur of the moment thing when the two were alone in the dorm, when Remus was getting dressed and Sirius was pretending not to watch. Sirius blurted the question before he could prepare himself for it. He thought the plan was completely fucked when Remus had only stared at him for a moment, confusion and concern evident all over his face. Sirius almost took it back, was about to play it off as a joke when Remus smiled and said “Sure, Pads. That sounds like a lot of fun.”
In the days leading up the the Christmas dance, Sirius learned that the fourth step wasn’t going to be as easy. Regular mistletoe wasn’t proving to be enough, so Sirius had to resort himself to charmed mistletoe, which backfired horribly when Peter had accidentally gotten stuck with him. Much to both of their disappointment, the charmed magic on the stupid plant didn’t settle for any cheek kisses.
The one who the charmed mistletoe was actually meant for had jumped out of the way at the last second, but Peter hadn’t been so lucky. It frustrated Sirius, that Remus seemed to have memorized the layout of all mistletoe decorations around the castle and avoided it well. So far Sirius had been resigned to kissing Both Prewett twins (separate occasions, thank Merlin), Dorcas Meadowes, Sona Pearce, Isaac Ure, and poor Peter all because Remus was apparently afraid of mistletoe.
The actual day of the Christmas dance made Sirius feel excited, nervous, and frustrated in one go, but his hopes were up that tonight would be the night he could get Remus alone and under the damned magical plant.
Remus was getting ready in the boy’s dorm while Sirius was dragged up to Lily’s because apparently it was “more romantic” to wait and see each other until they met up at the common room entrance. At least Sirius got the perk of having Marlene do his eyeliner.
As reluctant as he was to admit it, Lily was actually right about the extra romantic thrill of seeing Remus after walking out of the Fat Lady’s portrait. He cleaned up well, with a set of dark maroon robes that went well with his dirty blonde curls and honey eyes. Merry fucking hippogriffs, Sirius could barely manage from swooning straight to the ground when those eyes met his. And that stupid, beautiful smile that Remus gave him when those honey eyes took in every inch of Sirius. He was completely fucked.
Sirius was fucked when Remus laughed as the teachers took the first dance, he was fucked when Remus ate a sugar quill from the refreshments table, and he was fucked when a hand grabbed his to pull him out on the dance floor for their own dance. The night was one of the best of Sirius’ life, yet he still hadn’t managed to get Remus under the mistletoe. He got distracted by dancing with Remus once the music turned into more upbeat stuff, and then they met up with James, Peter, and their dates and sat around for hours laughing and talking about other couples they could see on the dance floor.
James nudged Sirius at one point, motioning to where Emmeline was dancing with Benjy Fenwick. Apparently Emmi Vance had a type, which was tall and smart bookish boys.
Sirius got so caught up in joking with Remus and Lily that he didn’t hear the announcement for the last song. Lily had been dragged away by her date, leaving Remus and Sirius alone at their table near the refreshments.
“Come on, let’s finish the Christmas dance with a bang.” Remus said, holding out his hand for Sirius to take. Sirius was so excited to dance with Remus that he didn’t even process the fact that this was the end of the night and he still hasn’t kissed Remus.
In the middle of their jumping around and screaming, Remus pulled out his wand and made an unrecognizable motion to Sirius, but before he could ask, Remus put his wand away and continued to dance. The crowd cried for an encore when the song ended, nobody wanted to leave just yet. The band relented, though they announced that this was going to be a slow dance. Sirius shyly took Remus’ offered hand and led them both across the floor in twirls and slow sways.
The night was actually perfect. Even in Sirius didn’t get to kiss Remus, he always had tomorrow, or the next day, or even the next. He just wanted to be in this moment with Remus as they swayed and laughed, completely oblivious to everyone else around them.
“So I found something interesting today.” Remus spoke, jolting Sirius from his thoughts.
“Oh yeah?” Sirius asked, curious as to what Remus found and thought interesting enough to bring up during their dance.
Remus smiled, reaching into the pocket of his maroon dress robes and pulled out a small piece of parchment that was torn at the edges. It sort of looked familiar...
“Sirius Black’s Five Step Method to Get Remus Lupin to Date Him.” Remus read aloud. “I thought it sounded quite interesting, so I picked it up.”
“Moony, no! You weren’t supposed to see that!” Sirius let of Remus’ waist to grab the parchment out of his hands, but Remus was quick at dodging the attempts.
“Oh Merlin...” Sirius groaned, completely embarrassed. He wished that whatever deity was above would just smite him right then and there.
“Well, it has my name on it so I didn’t have any qualms about reading it...” Remus cleared his throat and shook out the parchment to prepare reading the rest.
“Step one, make sure Remus avoids running into Emmi Vance at all times. This one was interesting, since I have no idea what Emmeline has to do with any of this.”
“She was going to ask you to the dance...” Sirius muttered. He was pretty sure this is the reddest his face has ever been, and there was no way to stop this torture.
“Ah, I see. Step two,” Remus continued, “Subtly show that I, Sirius Black, and perfect boyfriend material.”
All Sirius could do was smack his hand to his face and keep wishing that he could somehow disappear from this whole mess.
“Step three, ask Remus to the Christmas dance.” Remus read, sounding more amused as the moment dragged on. “Now, since we’re both here at said dance, I can only assume you deemed the first three steps successful, right?”
Sirius didn’t answer, but Remus apparently wasn’t actually looking for one, he just continued reading.
“Step four, get Remus under the charmed mistletoe and kiss him until he forgets his name.”
They had stopped dancing at this point. Sirius was pretty sure it was because of him being to embarrassed to do anything but cover his face and listen as Remus read his own plan aloud to him. He felt rooted to the spot, no matter how much he wanted to run away and hide until graduation. Maybe the room of requirement would be a good place to live until then...
“I laughed and James’ and Peter’s inputs here. And suddenly, all your mistletoe mishaps made sense. It was hard to watch actually, nearly crushed all my hopes, but when I found this it all started to make sense.” Remus waved the parchment again and Sirius heard it flap.
“Remus, please stop. I’m so sorry, okay? I promise I can just avoid you if you want that, but- wait? Did you say I crushed your hopes?” Sirius finally took his hand off his face, looking at Remus for the first time since he started reading. He expected to find disgust, but instead he saw Remus smiling that same, sweet, secret smile that they shared between the two of them.
“Well, duh.” Remus shrugged, still holding that damned piece of parchment. “I don’t think anyone would like to watch the guy they fancy kiss six other people.”
Sirius could only gape while his brain floundered for words to say.
“You- you fancy me?” It came out as a whisper.
“Of course I do, you daft mutt. Only for the past two years or so. How could I not?” Remus smiled again, and Sirius realized that the way he was looking at him was the same way Sirius would look at Remus when he thought the other boy wasn’t looking. Oh. This revelation brought back all of Sirius’ confidence, it seemed. He put his hand back on Remus’ waist to pull him just a little bit closer and plastered a smirk on his face.
“Well then, what am I going to do about step four? It’s been bloody hard to check that one off, you know.”
Remus laughed, and then pointed at the ceiling above him, revealing a single spot of charmed mistletoe. Well, that explains why Sirius felt so rooted to the ground earlier, then. And it explained Remus’ random wand movement earlier.
Sirius’ thoughts were cut off again, but he was more pleased by the cause this time. The pair of softest lips he’d ever felt were pushed against his own, and he hummed, perfectly content.
Remus was kissing him, Remus was kissing him!
The song ended, and people around them applauded the band for their night of well-played music but Sirius and Remus didn’t even notice. Their own thought were filled with only each other. It was the best night of Sirius’ life.
“Well,” Remus broke away, breathless from their kiss but still smiling, “You’ve already asked me out, and you got your kiss, so what’s next?”
Sirius laughed and pretended to think about it for a moment, head tilting side to side. Remus smacked him on the shoulder to hurry him along.
“I’m pretty sure the next step was to become boyfriends.” Sirius beamed.
“And happily ever after will come later.” Remus agreed, and then his lips were back on Sirius’ while both boys were completely oblivious to the rest of the people around them.
Chapter 101: The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black
99 chapters of AitF, 99 chapters to go! Post one up, read it below, 98 chapters to go!
Okay, I'll stop now.
HPHPHPHPHP
Of all the things he could have landed on, it had to be a bag of dead rats. Peter got to land beside him on the desk. Remus got to stumble over his own feat and smack into Frank Longbottom, James got to bash his head on the doorknob. But no, he got the bag of dead rats!
Which about summed up his whole life experience of still being in this house! And this room in particular. He plucked a tiny little bone from his hair and scowled at the blood in his pants and wondered what he'd done to deserve all this. His eyes landed on the book, propped against the wall at the very bottom of the tapestry. He sighed in resignation but hauled himself up to grab it, anything to hurry up the process of getting them out of here! When he picked it up however, it fell from his slack fingers in shock at what he saw.
He knew this ruddy tapestry as well as Hogwarts castle, it had been imprinted in his mind from youth. In his youngest years, his time-out punishment had consisted of standing in front of this wall until he could recite every name, top to bottom. He knew exactly which two circles the book had been blocking, or rather, used to be. He wasn't there anymore, instead a black smudge was left in its place. Regulus's was marked as complete, the year of death as visible as his shoes.
It was the most jarring thing he ever could have seen in his life, as if his head had actually split in two. He'd done it? Surely he'd been blasted from the tree for doing something that would finally get him free of this place, permanently. But, then Regulus had also done it. He'd stayed here, and died a part of here, and a part of him wilted with that knowledge, he and his brother really never could go back to anything resembling civil, let alone normal. A quick glimpse moving up showed his brother hadn't even outlasted his parents, both had lived for several more years. What Sirius had said in the future was irrevocably true, he was truly the last of his line.
"Sirius?"
He looked up in surprise to see his three friends had moved much closer than he would have expected. He opened, then closed his mouth, and couldn't think of anything to say, so instead wordlessly flipped open the book. The tree said it all anyways, there wasn't anything left for him to say. He didn't want to see their faces when they realized the same, what would be better? Praise, or condolences?
"The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black," he managed to say like a turd had replaced his tongue.
Regulus wasn't sure what had Sirius in such a stuffy mood in particular as he decided to read, this was definitely one of the better rooms in the house. At least the history of their family had always been one of the more fascinating lessons their father taught. The four of them were blocking his favorite part of the tree, probably intentional on his brother's part as he liked to pretend his circle wasn't even there most days, so Regulus instead went over to one of the cupboards and opened it curiously to see if anything there had changed.
He mostly ignored the book as Molly Weasley continued infantilizing the teenagers by thinking they'd go straight off to bed without talking. Instead he smiled in surprise to still see the old dusty bottle of the very first Sirius Black's blood, his brother's namesake. There was an odd locket he didn't recognize and briefly wondered who added that and why, as well as his mother's music box she often used to get herself to go to sleep. It worked wonders, as she wouldn't wake until someone shut it.
Harry and Ron ignored Molly's orders of course, but even when the twins arrived and hashed things out not much was said that couldn't have reasonably been worked out. Regulus was actually quite disappointed in this older version of Sirius, had his brother gone tame?
A part of Regulus, even having witnessed all these changes himself, could hardly imagine the house in such disrepair, and all these virtual strangers in here trying to change it. There was something almost violating in the way they were callously throwing things out that they had no right to, even with Sirius being a more than willing participant. He ran his fingers over the odd locket once more and shut the door back firmly, and locked it. At least nobody was doing it right now and he could still pretend all of this had some bearable answer in the end.
At least Kreacher was still there! He smiled in delight at the idea of his house-elf still the same after all this time, not everyone had to be horribly different or dead in this future. Despite the intriguing information coming from the book, Regulus really just wanted to know what had become of himself. Had his death had something to do with Kreacher's attitude - he'd hardly ever seen him act in this way toward anyone but Sirius, though Regulus supposed he wasn't surprised that this extended to blood traitors and dark creatures and...Muggle-borns.
Frank rubbed nervously at the back of his neck when he found himself next to Lily and Alice having a comfortable chat about house-elves, and what little they both knew of them really, only for Alice to give him a small little frown and not immediately acknowledge his arrival. He'd unconsciously put himself as far away from Lupin, and by subsequence everyone else in the room was now in between them.
He at least tried his best to downplay it by watching the book attentively, and getting the smallest of chuckles when the bag of dead rats was explained as Buckbeak's breakfast. The knowledge that said hippogriff was staying in his own mother's room at least seemed to cause said reader great mirth.
Regulus sighed in exhaustion as Sirius ended up leaning against the wall to support his weight he was laughing too hard. Mum really wasn't that bad! Strict, especially on him for sure, but this just felt uncalled for! Had Sirius ever tried to bother to understand why they had raised them the way they had? Maybe Dad and Mum just didn't know any better about all this, like he was still figuring out?
Yeah, and maybe those doxies will fly out of the curtain and sing carols instead, he scoffed at his childishly clinging mind. His parents did feel what they'd taught their boys was right and he knew it, but that still didn't give him any answers as to why he didn't. Yet he still didn't find what Sirius did funny, there had to be some elusive third path somewhere.
To his delight, Peter came over as a distraction and Regulus welcomed that with a grin. "Those twins are really taking off with this joke shop idea huh?"
"It's really impressive," Peter agreed, "I can't say I'd have done anything near as ambitious with all that gold."
"What would you do with it?" Regulus asked, as the idea only just occurred to him he'd no idea what to do with his family money himself.
"Don't know," Peter looked surprised at the question. "Experiment what I'd want to do with it I guess, blow it all before I even figure it out," he finished with a general enough shrug, but a slight grimace.
Regulus thought he was selling himself short, and would have said so, before the bag of dead rats was mentioned again by Molly sitting on it and Peter made the exact same face. He couldn't help but wonder for the first time how that must feel, to have some part of you be used as a punchline, and a dead one at that. He still didn't know much more than the basics of what being an animagus was like, but surely hearing of the dead animal you could turn into, especially like this, wasn't pleasant.
He was sadly deterred by Kreacher entering the scene. The state his house-elf was described in was so sad. His house-elf was supposed to be a reflection of his home, and yet his companion of so many years seemed to have sunk even farther than the old rotting floorboards. Kreacher certainly didn't mutter like some closed ward patient! And the very idea he had to sneak around their home amongst these strangers to salvage old things that he had far more of a right to just caused a pit in his stomach. Then he winced, for the first time in his life feeling shame at the word Mudblood as Kreacher said it so carelessly, and he watched the very one it affected in this room flinch so openly. He realized for the first time how he'd feel if someone called Peter that, let alone laughing at the word as he once had.
Sirius, neither his brother reading nor the one coming in to break all this up, helped nothing of course as he ordered their house-elf about without even acknowledging he had a name, as usual. Regulus found himself shuffling uncomfortably and trying not to look at the tapestry himself now, he didn't know how he felt about any of it anymore, it made his stomach hurt just thinking about this stuff. So it was to his very great surprise when he caught Sirius's awkward face, and similar shuffling gait as he shot Regulus a rather odd look and read much more softly than he was before, like he was hoping the others had stopped listening.
Which of course only made Regulus focus on him all the more. Since when did he care about saying his visceral feelings for all of this as loudly as possible, what did it matter if he was saying it to Harry and everyone around them? Then his heart did a funny little thump in his chest as he realized Sirius was trying to hide the wrong thing. Not his words, but his placement, of being blown off the tree?!
He rushed forward and immediately tried to shove Sirius out of the way to confirm such a thing, but Sirius stood his ground now, frowning down at Regulus. "Yeah, alright, it's true," he sighed, even as Regulus tried to bend down behind his legs, Sirius raised one boot up and placed it purposely against the wall.
"How!?" Regulus gasped, still pulling fruitlessly at his leg it seemed.
"How should I know, Kreacher isn't muttering the story yet obviously," Sirius rolled his eyes, for all the world sounding as blissful as ever for such an awful thought!
Yet, the shock wasn't really there. Regulus was looking to see it for himself, but not because he didn't believe Sirius. Mum had been threatening it for ages now, and he had no doubts she'd go through with it. Just, the idea it had really happened...
Yet the following passages didn't give much in the way of details. He was sixteen when it happened? So it was likely to be, this very summer then? The much, much older version of his brother lingered mostly on the Potters, and how they'd taken him in, and his disgust with the whole place, as if this hadn't still been his home for sixteen years, like he'd left nothing behind.
Sirius stopped reading there though with a look Regulus didn't understand. He almost did look, guilty? That wasn't quite right, but whatever his eyes were lingering on in the words to come he didn't seem to want to share. Regulus started tapping his foot impatiently and began to scoff at Sirius to stop being dramatic, surely he didn't need to linger on this that much, when he jolted in surprise at Peter putting a hand on his too tense shoulder. Potter had to give Sirius a nudge to get him to spit out the next words, and they still rang in the silent air.
Sirius finally shuffled out of the way, where the glaring black spot shone like a beacon next to Regulus's tiny little circle, earmarking his death. Regulus hadn't needed proof to believe that either.
It had certainly been hinted at in the previous chapter, but even before that, since the Dark Lord's resurrection in the graveyard Regulus had been getting a creeping sensation this was where his life was headed. He just hadn't realized it was, so soon, in three years.
Sirius started reading at lighting speed then, as if the burn of the words wouldn't linger if he rushed through it fast enough. He'd joined the Death Eaters, and his parents had been proud of him. He'd died, because he'd become a coward in the future as well, just much slower than it was starting now apparently. An idle part of him wondered what it was he hadn't been able to do that led to this. Had his parents still been proud when he couldn't murder a Muggle-born on orders? Unable to torture someone while Death Eaters around him laughed?
He wished he could vanish from sight, it felt like a spotlight was on him and he didn't know what any of them expected him to do for the first time in his life, he didn't know what he expected himself to do. Was there even a way out?
"Reggie?" Sirius made to close the book and reach a hand out, and Regulus let him. If anyone knew how this felt, it was definitely him. The two of them just stood there looking at each other for a long time, it all felt so inevitable.
Sirius seemed to be waiting for something, so Regulus finally said the only thing he could. "I don't want that."
"Yeah," Sirius managed a tiny little grin, "at least we can finally agree on something."
Regulus took an uneasy breath before pushing the book back into Sirius's line of sight and stepping out from under his hand, but staying just as close.
Sirius felt like he should maybe apologize, but he had no idea if this was going to last in Regulus. The kid was scared right now sure, but how long until he shook it off and the bravado came back, that he'd find what he did wrong and make it right with the Dark Lord? After all, Sirius had made more than one snide remark over the years Death Eaters didn't exactly have the best mortality rate and nobody in this house had acknowledged him then, but if this was actually the first step in his kid brother finally seeing what he did in all of this, he wasn't going to break off this new line of thought. Nothing else needed to be said for now at least.
Then Molly came and interrupted everything anyway.
Lily carded her fingers through her hair as she watched the whole exchange, for the first time really seeing the Godfather Sirius would become, the little fourteen-year-old kid Regulus Black really was. Even with all the in-depth looks at their home she'd been getting, it hadn't really sunk into her what a number this place had done on these two until now, but it also raised an unpleasant awareness.
Guilt, firstly, as she realized her earlier assumption had been wrong. There was no silver spoon in Sirius Black's mouth like there was in Potter's, he clearly detested this house with every word he spoke of it, and had in fact been banished from his own family for refusing to be like them.
Sev's home life was far from ideal as well, yet he'd seemingly run to the Death Eaters at school no matter how often she begged him to stay away. Regulus was already making the first steps at trying to draw out of such a thing by just saying otherwise, what would it take for her best friend to do the same?
The rest of the chapter went by without incident as Harry and crew cleaned up the house over the passing summer, and then it was the night before his hearing to determine his fate at school. With Dumbledore a no-show in any way, quite the contrary as he'd apparently made an appearance specifically while Harry was asleep.
Was it really possible Harry wouldn't go back to school this year? That he'd remain shut up in here with Sirius for who knew how long? Sirius could barely swallow around the lump in his throat at the idea as he announced the end of the chapter approaching.
what you don't ask that I don't do, right?
@constancezin and @pianistbynight asked me to make a continuation of this fic, and well, here it is.
Thanks for interacting, it cheers me up a lot
Hope you like it
Day 11 part II: First Kiss
‘’Hey, Evans’’ James tried his best to sound normal, not wanting to appear too enthusiastic and nervous, pretending not to be waiting since he realized she had left.
‘’Hi, James’’ Lily didn’t seem like the most lively person in the world, hugging herself as if she were cold and her cheeks were a little flushed. He wondered where she was, and a part of his head imagined that maybe she had gone to meet that ravenclaw who was always flirting with her in Astronomy class. ‘’The party ended early’‘ There was no one else there but him, and Sirius would surely laugh if he knew that James had expected the redhead to know where she went from.
''Minerva discovered us'' shrugged ''I was reading'' He pointed to the book in his lap, hoping she wouldn't ask any questions since not a line had been absorbed ''Erm ... how are you?'' The green eyes didn't look so bright, but James figured it was because she looked cold. ‘’Here’’ He stood up, placing the blanket on the sofa around her icy shoulders, trying to pretend naturally
‘’Thank you .’’ She sat on the couch next to he, putting her legs together against her chest and suddenly looking small and fragile ‘‘Amelia didn’t want to be with you down here?’’
‘’Who?’’ Was it his impression or did Lily look much more bitter than she usually was? ‘’Ah. Amelia. No, she went up’’ James made a face ‘’She is ..’’ It’s not you ‘’Too much .. you know? Just like when you said that Sirius was sometimes too much ... so is she. And I already feel good enough with just him’’ He nodded, feeling a little stupid about his upset stomach and flushed cheeks. Fortunately, Lily seemed oblivious.
‘’She is beautiful’’ James snorted
‘’Trying to get me a girlfriend, Evans?’’ He joked, a little worried if she agreed, because he would never be able to take this out anymore. Not now that they were beginning to understand each other.
''No, just ... erm .. I just said'' She shrugged, blushing the color of fire that crackled in front of them, biting her cheek as she always did when embarrassed / nervous, while pulling her knees closer  "But ... um .. are you looking for a girlfriend?" James stared at the fire, a little confused by all that talk
''No. Actually, I don’t know’’ He told the truth, moving a little uncomfortably on the couch ‘’I didn’t stop to think about it too much’’
The two were silent, James afraid to ask if she was thinking about it, and if the answer was yes, who she wanted to date. He wanted to say that there was already thinking about it, and every time it was Lily who was beside him, smiling lovingly and taking his hand, not caring about his cheesy gestures of love, because James would have many.
But Lily would probably be with another boy, some smarter and less ... James. Her friends didn't like him, Hestia was the kindest, but even so she always looked a bit angry when he and she were going to patrol together, and he didn't blame them, because he would do the same thing to anyone who disturbed the peace of one of his friends.Not that he did that already thinking of annoying her, but lately he thought before doing any nonsense, and was much more mature than in the fourth / fifth year.
At least he think.
‘’You played well’’ She broke the silence ‘‘Even though I don’t understand much.’’
''Thank you'' James smiled, again nervous ''It's nice that you went to see our game ... And I can explain some things to you, if you want'' Lily looked at him finally, blinking a little confused, her eyebrows coming together as she lay down slightly head
‘’Thank you .. It would be nice. I would love to’’ He nodded, controlling himself not to smile
‘’In the next game, which is Ravenclaw against Slytherin, you can sit with all of us and we’ll explain it to you’’ Lily made a face
‘’I don’t know if your friends will like it’’ This time, James made a confused face
''Why? Sirius would love to be able to prove to Peter that he knows more about Quidditch’’ He joked, laughing softly imagining the scene ‘’They’ve been having this discussion about who knows more’’
‘’But Sirius doesn’t like me’’
''Since when? I think he prefers you to me sometimes’’ Lily arched an eyebrow, blushing as she snorted
‘’ He never looks happy when I’m around ’’ James shrugged
‘’He’s going through a bit of a shitty moment ’’ He didn’t want to go into the details of his family having sent him a very horrible and disgusting letter for finding out about the fight between him and Regulus. ‘’But he likes you’’
‘‘I didn’t know ’’ Lily looked really upset ‘’Huh .. anyway.. I need to go to sleep ’’  He shook his head
‘’Me too ’’ James stood up, and then he wanted to bang his head against the coffee table ‘‘It is late ’’
''Yes ... Will Quidditch classes still take place?'' He nodded, a little too hopeful for his own safety ''Ok. Good night, Potter '' Lily didn't seem so cold anymore, and James even thought he saw a little smile be born in her beautiful face
‘’Good night, Lily ’’ He accompanied her to the bottom of the stairs that led to the girls ’dorm, smiling awkwardly as he waited for her to go up.
"Without Evans today?" The redhead stopped walking, looking at him in a whole new way, getting too close and lifting her chin to look at him, her green eyes shining more than Flu, looking much more alive than minutes ago. James let himself be proud to imagine that he had done this
'' Just changing a little bit '' She laughed, lowering her face and letting her hair fall like a frame around herself, and James almost sighed when the smell entered his nostrils, trying to run his fingers through the reddish brown strands , that in that light, shone like gold.
‘’ I like it when you call me Lily ’’ She looked at him again, fixing the bangs that fell over her dark lashes
'' Good, because it's your name '' James joked, taking a snort from her and laughing at her reaction, stuffing his hands in his pockets to stop himself from messing with the threads that fell over her shoulder '' I missed you at the party today ''
''Yes? You seemed amused by Amelia ’’ He rolled his eyes, focusing on anything but her, denying it while he thought of a way to say that without implying that he had been waiting for her since he saw her leave.
‘’ I already said it wasn’t anything’’ He shrugged ‘’And yes, I felt it. Remus danced over one of the tables ’’ The redhead laughed, her green eyes bulging
''I lost it?! Shit! ’’ James nodded, laughing as he remembered his friend
‘’ It was fucking fun. You should have stayed and seen ’’
‘’ I needed to be silent ’’ He nodded, a little nervous and anxious, touching his hair and scratching the back of his neck with the sensation that ran through his body
‘’ We can break some rules to make this happen again ’’ He suggested, looking closely at the most beautiful green eyes he had ever seen in his life
‘’We? ’’ He shrugged
‘’ I’m sure it will be more fun if you’re together ’’ Lily seemed to think, before nodding and going back to silence, looking at him as if she wanted to say something very important but didn’t know how.
Was it now that she was going to break his heart, saying she was dating another?
‘’ I need to go up ’’ But Lily made no move to turn around
''Yes ... me too '' And before he could finish his sentence and wish the second good night, Lily took a step closer and kissed him, much more impulsive than he had ever seen her, seeming to taste a new dessert , still deciding if she liked it
He definitely did.
Lily had soft lips and James didn't even need much to get hooked, besides being close so her scent seemed duplicated, leaving him in the air, lost and happy about it. He could barely contain his hands, not knowing whether to leave them on her waist or her soft face, just as her thin, delicate hands were caressing his cheek.
It was so good that he wouldn't even care that they were glued together forever.
''Finally!" A round of applause came from behind them, along with whistles and cheers. James thought he was ready to curse the noisy idiots behind him.Lily looked just as angry, even if ashamed, arching an eyebrow at her friends.
‘‘ Didn’t I say Mary? ’’ Remus laughingly said ‘‘You can pass the money over here’’ The girl snorted, rolling her eyes and putting her hand inside her pocket.
‘’ Finally, Potter. I don’t know if we could take any more of you waiting for Evans until late, or making up reasons to throw parties ’’ Sirius smiled from ear to ear, looking amused by his friend’s embarrassment. Just like the other five idiots ‘‘ Now Evans .. I hate you !? Honestly woman, have you not noticed my effort to make you always alone with our Jamesy, here? How is it to hate you? Merlin, and I think you were smart! ’’
Reunited: Chapter 4
It was September 1st, 1971, the day Narcissa, Aurora, and Sirius Black are to attend Hogwarts, the first day of September 1st of 1971 will forever change the house of Black. No one knew it just yet, but this day would be the reason The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black will come to its end in 7 years.
The three stood alongside their mums, both mothers carried a disgusted look seeing as half of the wizard and witches on platform 9 3/4 wore muggle clothing, in which Druella would discretely send a hex their way, the two mothers turned their attention to the youngest Blacks, beside them stood the second eldest of the Black sisters who desperately wanted to pull aside her siblings.
" Girls?" Druella looked down at her youngest daughters waiting for an acceptable answer, the girls glanced at each other before smiling brightly at their mother, saying the words which came out so often in the House of Black.
" Toujours Pur," Aurora and Narcissa said in unison bringing a smile to Druella's face, the women made sure to raise her youngest to be respectful pure blood ladies, those words were enough for Druella to be content with herself she decided on to not say her speech about not associating with mudbloods, half-bloods, and blood traitors because it would lead to consequences, though the twins were well aware on what was expected of them and Druella knew that.
" Good, now behave and make mummy and daddy proud," Druella smiled nodding to her youngest before apparating away back to the manor along with Walburga and Regulus.
The three young Blacks turned their attention to Andromeda who seemed nervous as she glanced at each Black, Andromeda pulled the three away from all the pureblooded families getting them to a place on the platform where the four wouldn't be overheard.
" Listen to me carefully, and don't say anything until I'm finished speaking, am I clear?" Andromeda spoke to the young wizard and witches who nodded in agreement.
" Hogwarts is amazing and you'll meet many witches and wizards your age, don't be shy to befriend them even if theirs consequences back at home, what our parents say about muggle-borns, half-bloods, and blood traitors aren't true, we're all the same through and through, us being pureblood doesn't make us any better then those who aren't, I also have someone I want you three to meet," Andromeda grinned at the kids who had an unreadable expression on their faces, Narcissa glanced at Aurora who only sent a wink towards Sirius which he replied with a cheeky grin.
" Ted, you may come out now," Andromeda called out from behind, a man with blonde hair appeared with a charming smile but the Black sisters saw right through their sister's attempts and stepped back from the group.
" It's nice to finally meet you three, Andromeda talks very fondly of you all, especially you two Narcissa and Aurora, I'm Ted Tonks," Ted introduced himself noticing how his fiancé smile alter watching the twins share scared looks.
" I haven't heard of the name Tonks before, and I know each family in the sacred twenty-eight," Aurora stated pushing behind Narcissa blocking her from harm's way, Sirius shared the same confused looked Ted and Andromeda gave the Black haired girl from her action of pushing Narcissa behind her.
" That's because he's not, he's a muggle-born Ara, I wanted to introduce you because he's my fiancée," Andromeda replied which she soon regretted seeing her sisters back away further from her soon to be husband, both sisters had a look of worry as they saw how close Andromeda was to the muggle-born. Though they weren't quite sure what the word muggle-born meant they both decided to keep their distance, Druella taught the twins that it was best to stay away from anything that has to do with muggles, Druella always went on about diseases the muggle world carried in hopes that her daughters wouldn't associate with anything muggle especially those witches and wizards who are muggle-born.
" Muggle-born, what's that?" Aurora asked Andromeda who gulped as Recognition dawned on her, Ted had been confused seeing all the kids stare at his fiancée waiting for an answer.
" Muggle-borns are mudbloods, we shouldn't call them mudbloods because it's considered a slur, it's preferred if you call them muggle-borns instead of that vile name," Andromeda sternly answered furrowing her brows feeling a wash of madness towards her parents for not teaching her siblings any better.
" Andy can you please move away from the muggle-born, he might carry diseases!" Aurora raised her voice with worry laced all over her words, she gave her older sister a pleading looking seeing Andromeda take Ted's hand.
" They don't carry any diseases, mother has been feeding you all lies ever since birth," Andromeda told Aurora who seemed a bit skeptical at first but then gave in to the new information, after seeing her sister come to terms with this new knowledge Narcissa left her sister's tight grip moving to stand next to the shorter girl.
" Your a blood traitor, mum and dad will disown you when they learn of your beliefs," Narcissa gave Ted a disgusted look in which Andromeda took offense and glared at her younger sister, Narcissa had no problem with Andromeda's beliefs but she knew that this could possibly lead to losing a sister and that's what angered her.
" I plan to tell them soon and yes I most likely will be disowned, and I have accepted that," Andromeda told her sisters who glared at the girl, Ted held onto Andromeda's hand squeezing it reassuring her that everything will be just fine, Ted wasn't so sure about meeting Andromeda's sisters because he felt that they would share the same opinions Andromeda's parents have, on the other hand, Andromeda knew her sisters would be accepting and encourage her way of life but she was losing faith in her sisters as she spoke to them.
" You're willing to lose everything, for him?" Aurora pointed at Ted in disbelief with tears daring to spill from her green eyes, Narcissa flared her nostrils glaring at the blonde man in front of her.
" I love him, and if it means leaving such a horrible family then I am more than happy to," Andromeda answered with confidence, at her words both Aurora and Narcissa felt a wave of jealousy as they turned to the blonde man who smiled adoringly at his fiancée.
"You're going to give up your whole world and everyone in it, just for this man? You can't do that Andy, don't leave m...us behind don't leave your sisters behind, don't choose him over us, please Andy," Aurora spoke in disbelief her eyes blazed with hurt as tears swam in them.
" I spent entirely too much of my life worried about what my parents think of me, what my family thinks of me and I'm done, you still have a sister Ara that will never change, my love for my sisters will forever stay bu-" Andromeda began to say but was cut off by her green-eyed sister who was on the verge of crying, Narcissa let go of her sisters grasp walking away from the group not bothering to stay any longer, all Narcissa could feel was betrayal and she could longer stand to be in the presence of the man her sister chose over her.
" But it isn't enough, and that's fine I understand, don't bother saying anymore, I won't stand to hear and listen to the nonsense of you choosing another over family, even if it's the one you love," Aurora stared into her sister's eyes only seeing love and admiration for the man beside her and she put on a small smile that couldn't reach her eyes, she too felt hurt and betrayal just like her twin, but to her, it would all be worth if it meant that Andromeda could truly be happy.
" And as for you Ted treat my sister like she's the world, or else you'll find out why Blacks are known to be deranged," Aurora threatened the blonde man before pulling Sirius away from the two adults and leading her cousin into the bright red train.
Sirius and Aurora looked around the train in awe, Sirius pulled his cousin to the end of the train opening the empty compartment, he turned to the girl who blinked away her tears and gave him the brightest smile she could.
" I have to go check on Cissy, I'll be back soon," Aurora gave the boy a small smile moving to open the compartment door but was stopped when Sirius pulled the shorter girl into a tight embrace.
" It's okay to not be okay, you're allowed to be upset," Sirius whispered into his cousin's ear the girl nodded her head still not allowing for her smile to falter, Sirius let go of Aurora allowing her to finally leave the compartment to find her other half.
After searching through every compartment she stopped at the first compartment that you'd see when entering the train, Aurora found her sister alone with red puffy eyes staring into out the window.
" Cissy," Aurora muttered closing the compartment door and rushing over to her sister who turned her attention away from the scenery, Narcissa grey eyes meet her sister green ones both felt heartbroken though one was better at hiding it.
" We're her sisters, we won't be allowed to speak or see her ever again, and she knows that, she very much knows that earlier will probably be the last time we see her, I feel like an idiot because ... I love Andy with all my well being, but that's not enough, and she's walking away like ... it's the easiest thing in the world to do," Narcissa shook her head aggressively squinting her eyes while her tears came like a river stream her bottom lip jutted out as she cried.
" She's choosing a man's love, but everyone knows love is irrelevant to people like us, why can't she just accept that it's our fate," Narcissa said running her hands over her gold locks in frustration.
" She did what benefited her, I think she's amazing for going after what she wants even though it hurts me, even if it hurts us, I think we should be ... happy for Andy, she's doing what we want to do but are too afraid to act on," Aurora told Narcissa the blonde girl bit her lip with a slight frown when processing her sister's words.
" I guess your right, but I don't like it," Narcissa pouted wiping away her tear-stained cheeks, the raven-haired girl lowly chuckled taking a seat beside her sister.
" Trust me I don't like it either," Aurora replied feeling the weight of her sister's head on her shoulder as she spoke.
" I should probably find Parkinson and Avery, care to join?" Narcissa asked Aurora making the girl scoff with a disgusted look on her face.
" I would never be friends with those scumbags," Aurora rolled her eyes following her sister out the compartment.
After Narcissa and Aurora parted ways she found herself heading back to her and Sirius's compartment, when opening the compartment she was surprised to see three other boys.
" Ara come sit," Sirius patted the empty spot beside him which Aurora gladly took while taking in the appearance of the others, she noticed one boy having deep scars on his face and sandy hair, she mentally questioned how he got them as she took in the scars but quickly looked away not wanting to make him uncomfortable. The next boy was short with blonde hair and beside him was a boy who she noticed hadn't taken his eyes off her, he had messy black hair and he wore circular glasses which she thought was quite cute, at least the way he wore them.
" This is my cousin and best friend Aurora Black," Sirius introduced noticing how his new friend James looked at the girl star-struck, he glared at the messy-haired boy but James hadn't noticed as he was too busy being in trance by Aurora presence.
" I'm Remus Lupin," the scar-faced boy said to Aurora sticking out his hand to shake which she gracefully took, making Sirius roll his eyes he mentally noted to tease the girl about that later, knowing how his cousin gets annoyed with him when he teases her about " her inner pureblood princess coming out."
" And I'm Peter Pettigrew," the short blonde-haired boy waved to the raven-haired girl in an awkward manner making the small girl giggled at his demeanor.
" Saving the best for last I see, I'm James Potter," James brightly grinned at the girl shaking Aurora's hand in excitement, the girl mentally scoffed at his words though unaware of the stupid smile and blush that found her face.
_______
Is there word or right to say Even in this old-fashioned way? Go make your move girl. I'm not coming home. Would things have changed if I could've stayed? Would you have loved me either way? Dressed to the blues Day to day with my collar up. Decision sits so make it quick A breath inhaled from an air so sick I cursed the day that I'd learned Of the web you span You had your hold till bleeding If it was up to me I would've figured you out Way before the year clocked out Oh, I hope you're waiting I hope you're waiting
People change and hurt people hurt other people in return…
That sentence summed up so many things in your life at the moment. Your eyes turned to the Slytherin table where Regulus Black sat with his friends. The boy that you had a crush on since 1st year changed and not in a good way. He had gone from being somewhat kind to downright vicious. After he started making closer friends with Evan Rosier, a few years before Regulus had turned further into his “pure blood nature.” The last thing that he wanted was a “mudblood” like you for a friend. Hearing those words leave his mouth still hurt you to this day and that had been over two years ago. Why you let it both you, you weren’t sure. You were just Lily Evan’s mudblood little sister...nothing impressive (his words, not yours).
You frowned, scowling at Evan Rosier. He sat telling some animated story that had Regulus, Snape, and Barty Crouch Jr laughing. Evan was a topic of rage for you. If Evan hadn’t stuck his nose in your friendship with Regulus then there was a possibility that the two of you would have remained friends to this day.
Screw Evan and everything that he stands for!
It was Snape that looked in your direction. He gave you a polite smile before looking back to his friends. He was the one boy at that table that was kind to you. Granted it had to do with his insane crush on your sister but he was still nice all the same. Now that Lily wouldn’t talk to him after him calling her a mudblood, he used you to get information on Lily. “How is Lily?” “Is she doing okay? What about you?” (Those were Snape’s big questions (when his Slytherin buddies weren’t around).
That whole little table would shit a monkey if they knew that Regulus and I were sleeping together....then.
You thought with a cold glare. Sex was all that there was to it. Regulus liked to play rough and you were glad to go along with it. You were, after all in Regulus’ mind, the little Hufflepuff who he could easily manipulate into whatever he wanted. At first, it was just seeing what all of the hype was about. Was sex really as good as everyone went on about? In short, yes. It was exactly what everyone said and then some. Lovemaking turned into Regulus developing some major kinks.
You longed for the day when Regulus was a sweet quiet boy who enjoyed your company. Now he was something else and you couldn’t put your finger on it.
“My favorite hufflebuddy!”
Your thoughts were interrupted when Sirius plopped down beside you and pulled you into an overdramatic hug. Everything that Sirius did was overdramatic but you didn’t mind. He was getting you out of your head.
“And my favorite gigantic lapdog.”
You said with a smile earring a bigger grin from Sirius as James plopped down on your other side.
“Mini-red, you are looking a little gloomy this fine morning.”
You were used to Sirius and James calling you “mini-red.” It didn’t matter how many times that you told them that neither Lily nor yourself enjoyed being called big and mini-red it never stopped. You learned to accept it as some form of unusual endearment and roll with it.
“Sorry, I just have a lot on my mind with this potions class. Slughorn is going crazy.”
James looked thoughtful as he reached across the table for a cup of juice.
“Why do you think that I bailed out of positions as soon as I could? Lils seems to love him. From what I have heard he adores both Lily and yourself.”
You nodded.
“He does. He also adores Regulus.”
Sirius frowned
“Like my brother, Regulus?”
“How many others are there?”
You questioned. Sirius chuckled before his expression darkened.
“Watch out for him, Y/n. Just go with me on it.”
You couldn’t help but notice the expression on Sirius’ face went from jovial ready to prank someone to dark and depressed.
“What’s going on with him?”
You asked, cautiously. Sirius didn’t respond but instead, James did.
“Sirius believes that Regulus is now a death eater.”
“Believes? I know. I mean look at him! He looks like the perfect death eater. Plus all of his little friends are so why wouldn’t he join the crowd?”
James, Sirius, and yourself turned to look at Regulus who was staring at you three. You were afraid to look at him. The last thing that you wanted to do was meet his dark gaze. Since Regulus started changing you were scared of him. If he was a death eater, you would be someone on his list. Why would he want to be kind to a filthy mudblood?
(Meanwhile)
Regulus’ attention had turned to you when Sirius started hugging you like some kind of stuffed animal. Why that he cared so much he wasn't sure. Regulus didn’t even want to admit to himself that he cared for you. You were everything that his family trained him to despise. Yet here he was having some kind of weird fluttering feelings in his stomach when you were near. He hated you yet he wanted you...it made no sense.
“Why does she have to be so fucking beautiful?”
Regulus thought with a glare. He wanted nothing more than to walk across the great hall and shove you against the wall.
He didn’t want to admit to himself that he was jealous of Sirius’ friendship with you. Regulus was jealous of all the Marauders for their friendship with you. You were their little pet Hufflepuff when you were his first! He was the one that made love to you the first time. You were his lover and now Sirius seemed to be moving in on what was his.
“It’s your own fault that she got scared of you.”
Regulus’ mind supplied. He had taken extra steps to scare you away. Whether it be his unkind words or dark distant stares, you finally edged away. Regulus also didn’t want to admit that it was because he called you a stupid mudblood in front of all of his friends.
“Don’t think on it, Regulus.”
Regulus’ thoughts were interrupted by Snape’s voice. He looked up quickly.
“What are you talking about?”
He questioned. Snape motioned to you.
“Y/n Evans. You don’t need a companion Hufflepuff. I know that she was something to you a few years ago…”
“I was a stupid child. I don’t have any feelings for the mudblood girl. The same could be said about you and Y/n’s sister.”
Snape’s mouth formed a hard line. Regulus knew all about Snape and Lily’s friendship falling apart. He saw it happen.
“I’m not talking about myself. I am talking about you. We have enough duties to the dark lord to perform. If you were to be swayed by the girl, you would both be killed.”
Regulus scowled as he noticed your eyes flicker in his direction before quickly looking away. You were scared of him. Regulus wanted to be thrilled but at the same time, it was gut-wrenching. What Snape nor anyone else seemed to know was after Regulus ruined your friendship; he wrote you letters every day for three months. He sent letters and little gifts that would appeal to your quirky personality in hopes that he could win you back. You ignored everything.
He assumed that it was all for the best but it made the “gentle” side of Regulus sob in fury. What you didn’t know was you were the first person in his life that showed him any form of love. Seeing you shove his letter in the rubbish bin or deep into your bag with little to no expression on your face hurt him horribly!
Regulus swallowed back the rage and made a mental note that he needed to stop being so wishy-washy and focus on everything being for the best. There was no way that Regulus as a death eater could have a muggle-born girlfriend. It would be the biggest crock of shit known to wizardkind!
It's for the best…
Half an hour later you walked into Potions with a book in front of your face. You had been gleefully reading some romance book that Marlene McKinnon recommended to you. This was the closest that you would seemingly get to a healthy and not toxic relationship.
Sitting down you put the book up as Professor Slughorn stood up. He gave all of his favorite students his usual friendly good morning.
“Ms. Evans, you did a wonderful job on the last test. I can see that a wonderful brain is a quality with the Evans family.”
You smiled, happily as Professor Slughorn put your most recent test in front of you. Perfect score.
“I am assigning partners for our next project. I know that I typically let everyone pick partners but I think this time we will be doing something different. It's time to see how other people in the classroom work together.”
You internally muttered “uh oh” under your breath. For projects, you always teamed up with a Ravenclaw girl named Emilia Abbott. The two of you had made a common ground of helping each other keep perfect grades on Potions. Up until now, your plan worked like a charm.
“Okay, Mr. Black, I am putting you with Y/n Evans. The two of you have the highest grade in this class. I want to see what amazing things the two of you can do together.”
WHAT?!
You nearly shrieked the moment that Slughorn made that comment. Was it too late to drop potions? Would you really need this class after all? You could always take double potions next year, right?
After Slughorn paired everyone up, you didn't move to where Regulus was sitting. In fact, you didn’t even look in his direction. If he wanted to be your partner then he could get his ass up and come to you. Maybe he would magically forget who you were. Forget the fact that you spent a lot of time underneath him in the room of requirement with his hand on your ass.
What you didn’t see was Regulus staring at you with a frown on his face. He was waiting for you to get up. Instead, you didn’t move. You sat like a little statue staring dead ahead and trying to hide under your red hair.
Rolling his eyes, Regulus finally stood up. He walked across the room and sat down at the table that you were occupying. You didn’t look up nor meet his face.
“We do have to talk to each other, you know.”
Regulus commented. You finally met his eyes. The expression on your face was wary and your guard was up. No longer were you the happy girl that Regulus considered his Hufflepuff buddy. You weren’t the girl that went to him when someone was giving you a hard time or the girl who would try telling him a joke but giggle the whole time. Now you were silent.
“I suppose we do.”
You replied. Regulus had forgotten how much he missed your voice...your sweet gentle voice that was not loud but instead that remained even and soft even if you were mad.
“What potion do you want to do the report on?”
Regulus asked.
“I don’t know.”
You said, sounding almost lost. Since Regulus had sat down, you tried not to look at him. Your vision had gone from his green tie, to his hands, to his family ring, to his left arm. Was there a dark mark under this dress shirt? You couldn’t help but wonder if Sirius was right.
“Look, I am not going to fail this project because you are acting like a clueless tart.”
Your green eyes immediately met his. Regulus was waiting for you to cuss him out but he knew that it wouldn’t happen. He had barely heard you say the word “fuck.” It didn’t matter how much he tried to get you to step outside of your comfort zone, you wouldn’t say some words.
“What? Have something to say?”
He questioned. You quickly stood and gathered your books before storming out of the class without another word.
Keeping You
Tumblr media
A/N: It’s hard you guys putting an idea ike this in one fic. Do you know how many ideas pop in my head. Like I wanna make it angsty, I wanna make it so you’ll tear up and cry but I can’t do that because well....too much series already. Lmao. This has been in my drafts for far too long. Time to woosh it out.
REQUEST:Can u do one we’re the reader is James’s younger sister and has a thing with regulus black so regulus x reader. If u do regulus
XX
James Potter. Who was that exactly? The Gryffindor, the house Quidditch Chaser, the Head Boy, the popular boy, the smart student, the favorite. He was everything people wanted him to be.
And who were you? You were the complete opposite.
The younger sibling, the other Potter, the black sheep, the outcast, the Slytherin, the trouble... It wasn’t that you were all of this because you simply had to. No. You were those things because you chose to be.
All eleven years  you had to grow up in this house, you had to keep up with your older brother. What he did, you had to do as well. What he became, you had to become that as well but you never wanted to. A rebel since little feet, you couldn’t be pressured into being someone you weren’t comfortable being. They wanted you to be James. They wanted you to be just like their precious first-born but it felt wrong for you. It felt like you were pushed in a costume that was uptight, shoes that were untied and too big. It felt horrible so everything you and your mother always did was fight; Why can’t you be like your older brother!? Why are you making everything harder than already is?! How can James do it?!
Neverending. That’s what it was. You hated your home life just because of your older brother.The older you got, the more distant you became to your own parents and your big brother. You and James never got along because he couldn’t stand someone who stood up for the wrong things he had done. But you couldn’t let him get away with it. You couldn’t always have your mother breathing behind your neck, watching you to slip and seeing your older brother do just that and get away with it.
But no matter what, he was still the favorite.
That’s why you fell in love with the only person who understood that. Regulus Black, he was counted as the favorite but he told you many times, mother always talks about Sirius. Always. Perhaps in a bad way, perhaps she burnt his face from the family tree but then again, he was still her first-born. A mother can never forget the first breath she gave. Never, that’s why no matter how she told him that he’s better than his brother and that he’s the only sane one in the family, he still knew if Sirius came running back, which would never be the case, she would take him and if he was in Sirius shoes, she would tell him to walk away and learn his mistakes. She was always more strict with Regulus and that’s what lead to the only difference the two of you had. He obeyed and you didn’t.
Through all that facade he put on, he was just as angry as you. Holding it in, bottling it up... it wasn’t healthy. Both of you had it but you only showed it to each other. That’s what made everything work. Trust.
You felt yourself wake up from a peaceful, deep sleep. You woke up to the warmth of his body pressed against your back, his heavy yet gentle arms wrapped around you and his lips pressed on your chest. He felt you move and turn around to face him. He woke up but didn’t open his eyes yet because his brain was still trying to get in touch of his surroundings.
Your hand reached to his cheekbone and you let your fintertips wander on it. He was so beautiful. His hair fell above his shoulder-- this dark brown colour, silky and wavy that showed a shade of hickory on the sunlight. They could be completely black most of the times but in the mornings, on the sunlight they show their brown pigment. They were contrast to his eyes that were light olive, reflecting a hurricane and each time he opened his eyes, they made you wonder just how those eyes could exist.
“I love mornings with you.” he observed your face feautres, especially your smile. “I’d wake up to this every morning till death and not once get used to it.”
Your fingers ran through his hair, your lips sealed yet stil spread in a wonderful smile and sometimes that was all the two of you needed. Just each other and it was enough to be happy.
“I don’t want us to hide anymore.” you said quietly meanwhile your thumb traced his lower lip. “I gave you a year but I don’t think I can make it more.” you looked up at those fern eyes but they didn’t change. They didn’t. They still observed you with his adoration for you.
“Are you scared?” he smiled and put his hand over yours, taking it from his cheek and kissing it.
“Not anymore.” you replied. “You?”
“I have no reason to be.”
---
Meanwhile in the dorm of four, there was a different way of waking up.
“Pads?!” James shouted as he ran from the bathroom but the boy sprawled on the bed didn’t budge. James grabbed the pillow from his way to the warderobe and threw it at the pack of black hair. “Padfoot!”
“Aonsojdnsoeiurhgepifd.” Sirius groaned in the pillow. “No.”
“Wake up! We’ll be late.” James was now already in hsi pants and unironed shirt.
“I wanna sleep.”
“You’ll sleep when you’ll be dead now get your lazy arse up and stop being a twat.” he was already tying his tie around his neck and at no sound from his best friend, he grabbed Remus’ trumpet from Remus trumpet case and blew it in Sirius’ ear.
“FUCK YOU!” Sirius jumped awake, grabbing the pillow and throwing it at James, who laughed at his reaction. Sirius grabbed everything in his reach, kept throwing it at James who jumped out of the way, put the trumpet in it’s right place and grabbed Sirius’ clothes.
“Here, mate.” he threw it his way, running back to the mirror and messying his hair.
“You fucking suck.” Sirius pulled on his pants, later his shirt and then his robe. He looked around for his tie and didn’t even bother to tight it up his neck, just let it hang loose. “See. Two bloody minutes.” he slammed his arms against his body.
“You look like shit but I’ll take it.” James winked and ran through the door.
“Likeawise.” Sirius dragged his feet through the door, yawning and stretching all the way until his first class.
He plopped himself on the chair, realizing he didn’t even bother to take his school supplies with him. “Oh, fuck.” he let his head fall on his arms.
“I got you, mate.” James duplicated his school supplies with his magic.
“Thanks.” Sirius didn’t budge from his position, groaning from the lack of sleep.
Remus turned around in his chair, Peter as well, both looking at them. James looked at their grin, the kind that leaded into teasing and making fun of them and that was exactly what Remus intended to do.
“Heard the two of you will be practically family.” he started and Peter snickered beside him.
Sirius and James exchanged almost identical looks, both quirking their left eyebrow at Remus as the curiousity began to dig deeper. “What do you mean?”
“Your sister,” Remus nodded at James.
“And your brother,” continued Peter, nodding at Sirius.
“Are together.” Remus finished and James just watched, Sirius was nothing different.
Silence.
“You’re mad.” Sirius smiled and leaned back on the chair. “Nice one but you can’t mess with us, Moony.”
Remus rolled his eyes, looking at James who was just staring at the emptiness of existance.
“My sister wouldn’t date Regulus Black?” James asked himself but everybody seem to hear him. “He’s- he’s-”
“He’s what?” Sirius sat upstraight and looked at James.
“Well, he’s not her type.” James began to confuse himself even more.
“What do you mean?!” scoffed Sirius. “Not her type.” he mocked.
“I mean- she- I- no.” he looked at Remus. “No. You’re messing with us.”
Remus rolled his eyes once again. “Whatever the two of you say but don’t say I didn’t told you.”
But it was true. As much as James didn’t want to believe it, he saw you and him together. His arm around you, his lips against yours- close- too close.
And he couldn’t figure out what has gotten into him that made him so furious. It’s not that the two of you got along that great. Of course, both of you had good moments when both of you were kids. How he took care of you, had to drag you everywhere with his friends-
Maybe that was it. James realized he took care of you all his life, even if he didn’t want to, he still did. You weren’t easy to handle but you were still his little sister and whatever has been saying about Regulus Black wasn’t really making James joyous about the two of you dating.
“Heard you became a birdie.” he appeared next to you, walking your slow pace with ease. “A love birdie indeed.” he continued but you could feel him clenching his jaw.
“Yes, so?”
“So, are the two of you serious?” he asked, trying to hide his inner emotions.
“Yes, so?”
“So, no.” he continued to walk but you stopped. He stopped as well, walking to you. “What are you thinking, (y/n)? Regulus Black?! Are you bloody mad!”
“What’s wrong with Regulus?” you asked calmly, yet a bit irritated.
“Everything. He’s a Black for once.”
“Isn’t your best friends, who we spent summer with, a Black?”
“That’s different and you know it!”
“No, I really don’t.”
“Sirius had a fucked up life back home, especially with his mother-”
“Well, he can join the club.” you retorted and pushed past him but he stopped you.
“Mom doesn’t hate you, (y/n).” he spoke more calmly. “Your relationship with mom can’t even compare to the one with Sirius and his mom. You know it. I know you do and she loves you, and dad adores you and I care for you but going behind their back and dating Regulus-”
“Regulus isn’t a monster, James.”
“But he can be one.”
“He won’t.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because I know him in a way nobody else does. Just like you know Sirius in the way nobody else does.” you sat on the bench and threw your bag on the ground. “He makes me so happy, James. You don’t even know just how much happy I am with him and at times I just want to hug everybody when I come from him.” you smiled up at him and he sat behind you.
“So let me guess... a year?” he looked at you and you nodded. “I knew something was different around you when you started to actually be nice to me and to mum, dad even Sirius but why does it have to be him? From all of the wizards?”
“Because if it was any other wizard, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. And he made me this.” you put your hand on James’ hand and smiled. “He is amazing James, he truly is.”
“Even if he is, I won’t let him slip in that easy.” he raised his finger and you rolled your eyes. “Just...be careful with him.”
“Since when are you a caring older brother?” you let go of him and started walking away.
“Don’t do anything stupid!”
“Can’t do anything more stupid than you haven’t done!”
---
You jumped through the corridor and made your way to the dungeons. Stomping on the stairs with a wide beam and a few giggles here and there, you entered your boyfriends dorm and jumped on his back. He let go of the book and not even turning around before you kissed him all over his face.
He laughed at your action, laying on his back and holding your cheeks. “What has gotten into you?”
“You and me, Regulus Black, are going to make hella cute babies.” you joked and he laughed.
“Oh will we now?”
“Mhm.” you nodded, all skittish.
“So, I reckon you talked to James?”
“I did.”
“And he’s okay with it?”
“He is.”
“And you’re parents?”
“Don’t worry about my parents. If they accepted your brother, they’ll accept you too.”
He continued to look at you with gentle eyes, just smiling and taking in everything he ever loved. He kissed your forehead softly and hugged you tight. “We’ll get through this, right?”
“You and me? There’s no doubt I’m keeping you.”
My Brother’s Brother is Now Ours
-James was shocked when Regulus approached him in the library, his typical sour expression firmly locked into place. Peter tensed beside him, but James kept his body language relaxed, and continued to work on his essay. He wasn’t afraid of Reg, and he refused to let the younger boy think he was. Regulus stopped about two feet from James and Peter, and seemed to be bracing himself for a verbal assault from the duo for having approached them. When no such attack came he stood up straight and held his head high.
- “Potter, Pettigrew.” Regulus made eye contact with both, waiting until he received an acknowledging nod in return to their name. “I was wondering if I could speak to you alone Potter.” James finally stopped writing, and sat straight in his chair. He looked closely at the younger boy, this was Sirius’s brother, his brother’s brother. The boy looked gaunt, haunted even. His flat grey eyes ringed with heavy bags, were maintaining strong eye contact, but James could see the fear, the doubt, the acceptance that James was going to tell him to go away and never speak to him again. Instead, James set down his quill, told Peter to watch his stuff, and then motioned for Regulus to lead the way.
- The two boys moved to a quiet corner of the library, and when Regulus stood instead of sitting, James rolled his eyes and flopped down on the seat, kicking one closer to Regulus when the stubborn idiot seemed to think that standing was still a good idea. “Oh for Merlin’s beard! Sit Down Reg! Salazar you are a stubborn arse!” Regulus sneered at the bespectacled older boy, but did take the seat. “You’re not one to talk Potter!”
- James snorted, but didn’t deny the accusation. He was an ass sometimes, but he at least admitted it. The Black brother’s were asses if James ever saw one. With a casual looking flick of his wand he constructed a privacy shield, and a small silencing bubble around them. “So, baby snake, what’s up with this unholy meeting of ours?” Regulus looked angry at the nickname but smirked at the name James used for their spontaneous meeting. “Unholy indeed.” Regulus suddenly looked nervous and a little ashamed. “How is he?”
-James sat up straighter, his relaxed, careless demeanor suddenly changing into that of the over protective brother he really was. “You mean after your charming parents beat him within an inch of his life? After he forced his battered and bloody body to apparate to the only safe space he had? Or do you mean after he was patched up by MY mother, and he apologized to her for dripping his blood onto her floors? You’d have to be more specific Reg!” James voice never rose in level, but as he spoke the very temperature of the space around them became colder, a clear indication of how furious James Fleamont Potter really was.
- Regulus Black said nothing in his defense. But he also kept his head held up high. His grey eyes, so similar to Sirius’s but lacking that comforting warmth, that friendliness that made James befriend the fellow dark haired boy in the first place. “ I will not apologize for the actions of others. I have never raised my wand to my own brother. I have never harmed him.” James snorted, relaxing back into his seat, slouching down his arms crossed across his chest, his wand twirling between his long fingers.
- “ Haven’t you? I reckon you may not have hexed, jinxed or cursed Sirius, but you’ve done your own damage to my brother. You know how worthless he feels? How many times after our little encounters, I have to pull him into a hug because all he wants is for his little brother to acknowledge him without anger or hatred marring it? How often he cries when our mother shows him the barest hint of kindness? Or when I put an arm around his shoulder to show him he’s safe and he flinches because no one ever touched him with love? Do you have any clue how often he stepped in between you and them when their anger turned to you, how often he placed himself in harms way just to keep you safe.”
-Regulus flinched back with every accusation. His eyes widening and dulling in shame. Those cursed eyes, so much like Sirius’s but so very different at the same time, were wounded, but after James was done with his little speech, those same eyes lit up with fire. James was glad to see that, maybe Reg was finally seeing what James was getting at.
- “I know. I Know! DAMMIT, I KNOW OKAY!! I KNOW I DON’T DESERVE A BROTHER LIKE HIM! I’M A HORRIBLE BROTHER, I DON’T KNOW HOW TO PROTECT HIM, BECAUSE HE ALWAYS PROTECTED ME. I’VE ONLY EVER CAUSED HIM PAIN, AND IT KILLS ME! HE’S DONE EVERYTHING TO MAKE SURE I DON’T END UP LIKE HIM.”
-James cocked an eyebrow. “What do you mean? “End up like him”” Regulus stopped his chest heaving, but his head snapped up in shock. “Nothing. I mean nothing.” James spun his wand up and aimed it at Regulus, as he stood slowly from his chair, and stalked forward until the wand dug in Regulus’s neck. “What did you mean by that?” James voice, while not high pitched, was definitely not a gravely growl like what had just come out of his throat. Regulus seemed realize that James wasn’t in a mood for secrets.
- “Sirius used to pull their anger away from me. I begged him to stop, to let me take their punishments for me so that he wouldn’t be so hurt and sore all the time. He told me no. Told me that his job as an older brother was to protect me, and that one day he wasn’t going to be around to do it so I had to focus on pleasing them, even if I didn’t agree with them. He used to train me, how to act, how to present myself so that no one ever suspected of me as being anything less than a perfect son. He always acted as if he had to make sure I was trained, because he knew something I didn’t.” Regulus was crying as he spoke, but here he had to stop and let out a choked back sob.
- “I found out a year ago by accident. They’re planning on murdering him. They were waiting for me to reach 17 before they did it. They realized that he was never going to be an heir and were plotting for him to have an accident. The night he came to you, mother lost her temper, she said she couldn’t wait anymore and she was going to end him then and there, claim that he snapped and came after her. I managed to sneak away and warn him enough that he at least had his wand, but when he escaped, mother banished him. Wiped him from the family tapestry. Sirius isn’t a Black any longer, he’s been denounced.”
-James gaped at the younger- only Black heir. “She denounced him? Her eldest son? Are you sure she denounced him? Or did she just wipe him from the tapestry?” Regulus swallowed hard. “ She stated the next day that’s she was going to write to grandfather to have him denounced. I know she removed him from the tapestry, I saw it when I went in the room. His name and face were blasted off just like Andy’s.”
-James let a string of curses fly from his lips. How dare that vile hag try and do that to his brother. She should be the one denounced, shamed and abandoned by the Black family. All of them should be. Except for Sirius, maybe Andromeda too. She had run off with that muggle born wizard, against the family’s wishes.  Sirius’s uncle was a decent bloke too, right damn funny. He could stay. If James ever saw the hag that had birthed his brother not even his father’s warning would prevent him from hexing her with the most vile spell he could find. Maybe he could consult Moony, he knew a lot of good archaic spells. Yes Moony knew lots of good ways to punish people. And he adored Sirius, in more ways then one if James was reading those glances right.
-Regulus Arcturus Black was impressed. For a Lion, James Potter knew a lot of words that would have made even his mother impressed. Where did he learn such vile things? When the boy finally tapered off into dark mutterings about hexes and punishing “disgusting vile gags that should be thrown into the pits of Tartarus and impaled on rusty Muggle spikes” Regulus attempted to move the wand that was still digging into his throat.
- When James allowed the movement, and continued to glare and mutter about his mother, Regulus relaxed. James Potter was a good man. He was a man who saw what his family was, and despite that, had pulled the heir of a dark dark family into his circle of friends, declared them to be brothers, and just accepted that Sirius wasn’t exactly normal. He loved Sirius, completely, unabashed by the fact that they were both males, and such close friendships weren’t typical. James didn’t care. He could be seen hugging, kissing, and laying on all his friends. He truly didn’t care. As long as his friends didn’t’terribly mind he showed his affection and love as easy as breathing.
- If Regulus had to share his brother with anyone, he was glad it was James Potter. The arragont little toe rag. He was probably the only one capable of showing Sirius what it meant to be loved. Too damn stubborn to let his older brother get away with anything else. Speaking of James, the boy was finally settling down. His mutterings fewer and farther apart.
-“ Regulus?” James’s voice was quiet, but calm. Regulus looked at the boy in acknowledgement of his speaking. “They haven’t done anything to you right? Since Sirius left I mean.” Regulus wasn’t shook often, but he couldn’t stop the flush of stunned amazement on his face. Why did Potter care what they did to him? He wasn’t one of Potter’s brothers. Just a snake, a slimy little snake.
- James was watching the other boy closely. Up close, Regulus looked awful. Granted he was a Black, so pale and haunt was a semi-normal look. However, the way he was holding himself made it seem like he was hiding a pain. Especially in the torso area. And the light sheen of perspiration that was beading along his forehead said James was right to question.
- “Show me now.” Regulus snapped his eyes up to older man, but quickly shook his head. “They’ve done nothing Potter. I’m perfectly fine.” James snorted, and then using those blasted lightning fast chaser reflexes, he had backed regulus up against a wall, and had his uniform shirt lifted up to examine his torso.
-Regulus was trying to figure out how he had gotten here. Backed up against a wall, in the secluded corner of the Hogwarts’ library, with Gryffindor James Fucking Potter, molesting him in an effort to determine if Regulus was injured. And he silently cursed the taller boy, as he struggled to get his hands out of James one sterched out above his head. What was the boy, part Mountain Troll, Salazar how was he so strong? Or was Regulus really that weak? His life was awful sometimes. Thankfully Regulus used regular glamours, so none of the bruises and burns were visible to James’ probing. If only it would hide the blush that had burned across his face. Damn his body. Now was not the time, as he realized that James had placed a leg between Regulus’s own to help keep the boy pinned for his examination. Really,really not the time then.
- That relief was short lived however, as with a small twitch of his wand, James had torn the glamours off. Revealing all the bruises, the burns, the small red scars from healed injuries. James reached out to touch the bruises, which littered along his ribs. His touch firm, but not harsh, he prodded and poked the muscles and bones underneath the skin.
- “Nice glamours. Sirius liked to use them too. I know all his lovely tricks to hide bruises and injuries. Well you’ve got at least three broken ribs. And some nice infected cuts.” As he spoke, his hand started to rub against Regulus’s stomach. Small gentle circles, which had very interesting effects of Regulus’s body. On one hand it relaxed him, his body losing some of that tension that had him stiff as a board, but it also made his dick twitch with interest. Damn his anatomy!
- Apparently, Peter, has decided that James and Regulus going off alone together for a longish period of time meant trouble, because he had run off to find Remus, who had been with Sirius, and all three had run to the aid of their friend. And as the three other boys rounded the corner and into the little nook where James and Regulus were, they were greeted with an interesting sight. James was manhandling a blushing and disheveled looking Regulus, who had a battered and bruised torso on display. The three other boys stopped, stunned.
- James having heard his friends arriving, turned calm and collected towards Peter and Remus ignoring Sirius who was torn between stunned and horrified while looking at his best friend and his younger brother. “Great Pete, go fetch my bag for me please? I need my emergency kit out it. Rem, I need you to come over here and take over holding him still. You’re stronger than I am. I need him still while I treat his injuries.”
- No one moved for a second, but then Remus stepped up, sliding his hands over James where he was keeping Regulus’s hands, and shuffled so his leg was between the shorter dark haired boys’ legs. Peter ran off to fetch the required material and to grab his own bag as well. He carried a few pain potions and a small bottle of dittany since some of their pranks could get a little messy and accidents liked to happen.
- Peter returned, quickly handing James the necessary premade kit, and then handing over the extra bottles from his own bag. James rewarded the short blond boy with a large grin, and a quick “Awesome job Pete”, before cleaning out the cuts. Dittany was applied and Remus used his free hand to smother the noises that Regulus made when the solution stung his skin. Cuts were cleaned then wrapped , or covered with plasters that Remus pulled from his own pocket. When the cuts were handled, and the scars that James thought might benefit from a small amount of Dittany were treated, James picked up his wand again, set it against Regulus’s broken ribs, and cast the necessary spell to reset the bones. A small snapping sound was heard as the bones shifted and snapped together again. All the boys winced in sympathy. Sadly their adventures meant that broken bones were all to common. They knew exactly how that spell felt.
- Sirius stood there stunned as his friends set about cleaning and treating his baby brother. His baby brother who was covered in bruises and cuts and scars. His torso looked so much like Sirius’s own. Sirius felt tears start to build in his eyes. How could he have left his baby brother to those, those.... Merlin was there a word bad enough to describe them?
- At James nod, Remus removed his hand from the young Black’s mouth, and James quickly held up a potion vial from Peter’s bag so that he could drink. But Regulus refused to open his mouth. James rolled his eyes. “It’s a pain reliever. Now drink it or I’ll make you, you stubborn ass!” Regulus refused again. He wasn’t weak. He didn’t need that. He wasn’t weak.
- Sirius finally spoke. “Drink the potion Reg, he’s not kidding. He’ll force it down your throat if needed. Trust me, he’s done it damn enough times to me. It’s just a pain potion. I promise you little brother.” Regulus’s looked deeply at Sirius, but didn’t open his mouth. Sirius sighed, took the potion from James hand, and tipped a mouthful down his own throat. “See? I promise Reg. It’s not a trick.”
- Still, the younger Black refused. James apprently got impatient. So he took the potion from Sirius, slid real close to Remus and Regulus and squeezed the younger boy’s jaw hard until his mouth opened. Hooking his fingers into the boy’s mouth, James poured the rest of the potion into his mouth. Quickly he covered his mouth, pinched his nose and leaned in to whisper in Regulus’s ear. “Swallow.”
-If Regulus could have, he would have whimpered. Potter was unfair, Regulus couldn’t not follow that command. And the potion was swallowed with no more fighting. Potter gave him a smile and nodded his head feeling him swallow the potion. “Good boy.” James released Regulus’s mouth, and nose, noddd at Remus to let him go and stepped back. Regulus slid down the wall, into a boneless heap. His shirt a mess, his eyes red rimmed and his mind a confused melted puddle of sexual frustration. Why did Potter have to have that affect on him.
- Sirius joined his brother on the floor. Pulled the younger man against himself and started rocking them. Regulus was crying he realized, and immediately felt ashamed, trying to hide the evidence by wiping the proof away. But Sirius didn’t care, and the other three had settled down into their chairs. Guarding the boys on the floor from sight with their bodies if anyone should pass by. The brothers rocked on the floor both of them crying, for a couple of minutes before Sirius lifted Regulus’s head and made the boy look him in the eye.
- “I’m not letting you go back there. Not now, not ever. If Mr. and Mrs. Potter don’t want to take you in, I’ll find us a flat. You’re not going anywhere again without me. I shouldn’t have ever left you there alone with those... things! I’m so sorry little brother. I’m so so so sorry.” Regulus could do nothing but dive back into his brother’s arms. Sirius apologized to him. Sirius was going to let Regulus stay with him. He wouldn’t have to go back. He could have his big brother back. Merlin, that’s all Regulus has ever wanted. He wanted to be under Sirius’s protective arm again. To not have to fight and sneer at him. He just wanted his brother.
-“Thank you! Thank you!! I’m sorry!! I’m sorry Siri!! I’ll be better I promise!!! I’m not like them I swear! I didn’t want to do any of it! I tried to be strong but I’m not you!! Please don’t make go back to them.” Sirius’s shushed him, rocking him and muttering about how he’s not letting him go. They won’t hurt him anymore. Regulus eventually reached a point where he wasn’t crying anymore, and sat up. His eyes were blood shot but he was lighter looking. No longer haunted by his parent’s abuse and suffering alone.
- After a couple more minutes, when both brothers were decidedly more calm, James spin his chair around to face them and leaned in close. “Now that you’ve had a few minutes to let that out. Sirius Orion Potter-Black! How dare you think Mum and Dad wouldn’t accept Regulus. He’s family! Of course they’ll let him stay. Honestly!! I’ll write mum a letter tonight and let her know, so I’d expect a letter in the morning from her and dad, for each of you. Now. Regulus, you can’t go back down to the dungeons. It’s not safe and I don’t trust those people. No brother of Sirius’s is going anyway dangerous without me trying my best to protect them. So when we leave here, we’ll report to McGonagall. She’ll help us sort you out.”
-Regulus suddenly understood why Sirius was willing to trust this boy. Why he would do anything James asked him. Because James Potter was the kind of man who helped others, long before he thought of himself. Who accepted a second child from the darkest family in their world, and the only thought James had was how to protect those two boys. He adopted Sirius, and looked to be well on his way to adopting Reg as well. Sirius has stated before he would die for James. Regulus understood now, James would do anything for his friends, whether that be fighting the world, or laying down his life for them. Regulus understood now, Sirius didn’t leave him behind for just a friend, he left him for an older brother who loved and protected him. And now he was bringing Reg into that brother’s sphere.
- The five boys gathered there supplies and gear. Remus grabbed Regulus’s bag, and gently batted the boys attempts to take it himself. “No you’re injured. I’ve got it.” It was spoken softly, and with a small grin that melted caramel colored eyes. Remus Lupin was handsome, and just as kind as James. Sirius was right, his friends were amazing. James and Sirius tucked him up under their arms, which were interlaced on his shoulders. Remus took the front, his wand strategically kept in his empty hand. Peter took up the back, his own wand held tightly in his hands. James and Sirius seemed to prefer keeping their wands out of sight, but he had no doubt they were easily accessible.
- They made their way to the deputy’s headmistress office. And immediately Remus provided a password to the portrait of a Scottish guardsman. A minute later, Minerva McGonagall, dresses far more casually then normal, opened the door. She stared at the boys in front of her before stepping aside and ushering them in. “ You know where everything goes, settle down, I’ll make tea.” The four older boys made quick work of removing the outer layer of their ribs, and hanging them in the closet with their bags. Then James and Sirius steered him towards the larger couch, while Peter and Remus settles together on an arm chair. When she returned McGonagall nodded and set about serving their tea. She had to asks Regulus how he took his but otherwise the action was done in silence.
- When they all had their tea and were settled down, she looked to James, her gaze both affectionate and stern. “What did you mauraders do this time?” James and Sirius shared a look before it was apparently decided that James took the lead.
- “As the Gryffindor Prefect, it is my duty to report when I suspect a student is being abused. I am willing, as long as the other three in this room, to provide pensive memories of the bruises and scars and cuts, that I’ve witnessed on one Regulus Arcturus Black. It is my belief that this abuse is from both home and school life. I am reporting this to you as my head of house, and Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts.”
- The second the word “abuse” had come out of James’s mouth, Minerva was all business. The situation was explained, memories collected, and Regulus’s own recounting of the various abuse was put down on paper. Slughorn was contacted to be told that one student would be removed from his house for safety precautions, on the basis of inter house abuse. He was appalled. Two hours after they walked into her office, Regulus was given an emergency bed in Gryffindor tower.
- That night when he was tucked up in the bed, which was placed between James and Sirius’s own beds he noticed. He felt safe for the first time since he was little and had curled up in Sirius’s bed after a particularly bad nightmare. Not only was he not having to cast multiple shields and defenses to feel safe enough to sleep, but he also got his brother back. Sirius has barely taken his arm off of Regulus’s shoulders all night, and had planted no less then 10 kisses to his head. Regulus’s was like a shaking puppy, who was being given love for the first time. Remus and Peter were being so kind as well. Remus has given him an extra blanket, saying that he figured the tower might be a little cold, since Peter liked the wind from the window. Peter has immediately offered to sleep with it closed, not even a twitch of annoyance on his face as he offered. The lions den, was less scary then he thought, and more like a pack of affectionate pups.
-For the first time since Sirius Black had laid down in the Gryffindor tower dorm, he did so with a peace of mind he hadn’t realized was missing. He knew exactly how his brother was being treated and where his brother was, and could easily reach out and touch him if he wanted. Regulus hasn’t made a peep about Sirius being so affectionate, and has leaned into to every touch and kiss. Sirius was the happiest he could ever remembered. He had his three brothers, and his dearest wolf all in the same room, and they were for now, safe. Tomorrow might bring some challenges, but that was tomorrow, tonight? Tonight Sirius was happy.
- James Potter was grinning like a loon as he laid down to sleep. His baby brother was practically bouncing with joy, as his younger was finally in their dorm, safe and relatively unmarked. James was proud of his actions today. He had given Sirius his brother back, and had gained another brother from the same action. Regulus was a cute little brat. Awfully snarky once he forgot to be so nervous around them, and he matched Sirius’s brilliant tactician mind, with practiced ease. Yes, The young Black would make a fine prankster. Maybe they’d introduce him to marauding in the next couple of days. And just as he was falling asleep, James realized that it wasn’t just Lily Evan’s face and laugh that lulled him to sleep, a certain dark haired boy’s flustered face and quiet chuckle had joined in.
PETER PETTIGREW is TWENTY-TWO YEARS OLD and a BARMAN at THE LEAKY CAULDRON in DIAGON ALLEY. He looks remarkably like DAVID LAMBERT and considers himself aligned with THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. He is currently TAKEN.
→ OVERVIEW:
Peter Pettigrew has always been the sort of boy who felt as though he didn’t belong. Growing up in the wizarding village of Chudley with his mother and father, Peter felt out of place. His mother HOLLIE HOLLOW had been born a witch to a fairly notable family with a promising inheritance before she had married his father. An Irish man, EWAN PETTIGREW had hailed from Dublin. A sturdy man and unlike any Hollie had come across prior and was completely swept off her feet from the moment she had laid eyes on him. After the two were married Hollie moved back to Chudley and announced to her family she had fallen pregnant with Peter. She hoped the news of a baby would bring her family closer together despite her choice to marry a Muggle but found herself mistaken. Cast out into the cold, Peter’s father gave up his career as a boxer and bought the local pub in Chudley renaming it The Merrow where Peter was born and raised. The Pettigrew family had a difficult time in Chudley due to Peter’s father who couldn’t quite seem to fit in amongst the witches and wizards who primarily made up the small town. Part of the reason Peter never felt he quite fitted into his own family was due to his father’s internal struggle. As a young man growing up in Ireland he had always wanted a strong boy who would grow to be like him.
When Peter began showing magical ability and showed little interest in boxing, his father tried his best to win him round and persisted in trying to make his life as close to a Muggle one as he could. He sent Peter to primary school outside the village and enrolling him in boxing classes, allowing him to come home battered, bruised and unhappy but still Peter continued to go. Peter had always been a boy who was eager to please with a balanced sense of humour that is often acquired by growing up in a pub. Children would often try and bully him at school, especially when he first began showing signs of becoming a wizard. Peter would be able to do things that other children could not, making items of school work belonging to children who picked on him disappear with a simple thought, or making an extra piece of cake appear on his tray at school after he was told he couldn’t have more than one. Despite it being brilliant magic, he was often called a freak and returned home with bruises not just from his boxing classes but inflicted by others at school he spoke back to. Naturally his father had protested attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, hoping instead he would attend Sacred Heart College, the Catholic school close to the house and begin taking shifts at the pub when he was old enough.
Thankfully his mother had refused and packed him away to school with little help from his father who had refused to even accompany them to Diagon Alley to collect his supplies. Hogwarts felt as though it would be a fresh start for Peter without the worry of being bullied. At this school he was just like everyone else and was excited to be treated as such. JAMES POTTER and SIRIUS BLACK were the first people to notice Peter wasn’t like everyone else, though he liked that about him. Peter had a hardened look about him and seemed older than most of the other students due to a lifetime of bullying and emotional abuse from his father. When LARKIN MULCIBER sneered at him for his tatty robes, Peter’s response was to attempt to have a fist fight with him which certainly caught the attention of the two boys. Both children from notable families, what little he learned of them struck Peter as interesting, particularly Sirius whose family situation sounded even more horrible than his own. Peter had never been around boys like these before. They thought Peter was cool because he lived in a pub and knew how to give someone a right hook which were things Peter had always been ashamed of rather than embraced. Sitting under the hat in his first year, Peter prayed to be placed in Gryffindor alongside Sirius and was overjoyed to get his wish and later be joined by James at the Gryffindor table.
There they all sat, breaking bread and throwing it at one another as Peter sat wondering if in that moment he was the happiest he had ever been. Peter’s school experience was influenced largely by those around him. Not a naturally academic or gifted student, Peter’s value lied in a number of other things. He was a damn good Beater, could drink like a champion, smoke like a chimney, and was the fastest at downing shots at parties and then was able to lie through his teeth about it afterwards to PROFESSOR MINERVA MCGONAGALL. Peter was a fiercely loyal friend and had a reputation as being the most trustworthy of his friendship group. Though he lied often for James and Sirius to teachers, it was REMUS LUPIN who Peter found himself lying for the most during his time at school. Remus had become close with Peter, James and Sirius through sharing a dorm room together but found that as fun as he was he disappeared often without warning for days at a time and made strange excuses after his return. After one evening, curiosity got the better of Peter and Sirius who followed Remus out to The Dark Forest one full moon and saw him shift into a werewolf. When Remus returned the boys alerted Remus to their findings, followed by a master of an idea by Sirius to learn to become Animagi to accompany Remus during his transformations and look after him. It was at that point the four became truly bonded.
Known as the Marauders, they became inseparable and vowed to take the secrets of one another to the grave. Upon leaving school, Peter wasn’t quite sure what he wanted to do with himself. He was a skilled enough Beater to try and pursue a career in Quidditch but he didn’t think that would truly make him happy. Of course his father promptly insisted on him coming back to Chudley to help them run The Merrow, but with all of his friends shacking up together in London, Peter knew moving back home wasn’t an option. Instead he put his skills to good use and got a job working at The Leaky Cauldron as a barman until he figured out what his greater purpose was in life which he found much faster than he thought. Peter had only been out of school less than a year before PROFESSOR ALBUS DUMBLEDORE had reappeared back in his life. The boys had all seen the recent string of disappearances in the news, especially with his other friends working at The Ministry of Magic and all the talk he’d heard in the pub. Dumbledore had attributed the ongoings to one man in particular THE DARK LORD who was suspected to be building an army. Dumbledore needed people like Peter and his friends on his side and quickly brought them into the fold of his new group he called The Order of The Phoenix alongside their friends from school LILY EVANS, MARLENE MCKINNON, MARY MACDONALD and DORCAS MEADOWES.
Although Peter enjoys being part of The Order because it allows them to do what is right, he mostly enjoys being back with his friends. Peter has enjoyed growing closer to other members of their group who previously overlooked him as James and Sirius’ sidekick, Lily Evans being someone in particular Peter has grown very fond of. A talented witch, Lily offered to help Peter improve his potion making and alchemy skills and the two quickly became good friends. A kind yet quick witted witch, Peter simply enjoys her company and can often be found working with Lily around his work at The Leaky Cauldron or slipping her free butterbeers as they catch up after she finishes work. Under Dumbledore’s instructions Peter has continued to work at The Leaky Cauldron to keep a watchful eye on who comes into the alley and do a bit of digging into any suspicious behavior which he finds to be of interest to the group. A charming barman with a sight Irish twang, Peter is somewhat of a hit with a few of the witches who visit the pub, including older wizard and famed journalist RITA SKEETER who he has been known to have the odd romantic liaison with from time to time. Peter has a slight inclination she only gives him the time of day to get some information of him, but since his meetings with her are primarily a fact finding mission for him also he doesn’t mind all that much.
Marauders: the things they love.
For James, it was Quidditch.                                                                           It was the feeling of the wind around you, your mind completely focused on the game as the shouts and screams of the crowd are barely heard over the sound of rushing wind and rising euphoria. The feeling of being the only words you noticed the whole game were “Gryffindor: 685 to Slytherin: 217!!” Watching, as packs of people piled off the bleachers, surrounding his team, yelling themselves hoarse over another victory.
It was also his family.                                                                                         The ones he was born with, but also the one he stuck through thick and thin for. The one he did everything in his power to give them a better life. Yes, James was an arrogant toe rag, but was that all he was?
No one saw the lengths he pushed himself to, the days he spent nagging them on how he could help them until he was finally shoved and told to stop or he’d “look more insane than Evans trying not to be late.”
To the outside world, James was an self-conceited bully, but to his family, to his world, he was their sun, their source of entertainment when their sky turned cold and grey.
Did people see how only James could make that flicker of a smile appear on Sirius’ face after he got a letter from home? How only James could make Peter laugh through tears because another person called him a spare? How only James could make Remus roll his eyes in that exasperated way that lets you know no matter how much he says he hates it, he’s only joking? How only James could make Lily hit him and scold him while trying to hold down a smile? But who was there to comfort him through his worries? No one. Because he soldiered on through with the same mantra “My friend’s needs are more important than my own.” But did anyone tell him that all people’s problems are important? That he needn’t carry everything alone?
The fact is, James did everything for his family. And he’ll be damned if people dare think they could mess with his world and get away with it. But... even the hero must die someday.
For Sirius, he loved feeling the wind rushing through his hair and around him, laughing freely as he ran on, no matter how much that stitch in his side burned because “Damn Moony, I swear if I don’t fucking beat Prongs it’ll be my reputation on the line” A feeling that - sooner than he’d thought - would be a distant memory he oh, so desperately clung onto.
It was watching their pranks be executed properly. Sniggering, as he thought about how much his parents would kill him if they knew what he just did. Hogwarts was his getaway. The place where he felt loved and loved right back. Where he really started his life.
The place where there were no looming parental figures or visits by a mysterious hooded man. Hogwarts was the birthplace of Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs.
Where he could mess about as much as he wanted, he may get detention, but the Marauders were always there too. Joined at the hip. The Inseparable, Invincible, Marauders. Laughing, as he slung his arms around his comrades shoulders, saying “it’s a good life we live, boys.”
He could always count on his family. No matter how deep the pit he dug himself into, he knew he would see James on the edge, silhouetted against the sun, his hand extended, a small smile on his face.
Until that fateful day, the day he fell through the ground, only to scramble back up, himself. Broken. Alone.
For Remus, it was the conversations they held with one another. Ranging from “What do you think is up in the Universe?” to “Now that’s what I call a sex god”. The nights they lay in the Forbidden Forest staring up at the stars through a clearing, Remus pointing out constellations and softly telling them the stories his mother recited to him all those years ago.
What Remus also loved doing was planning pranks. When that vicious little smirk came on, you don’t want to know what is coursing through his head right now. And when the prank goes horribly wrong? He just stares at the professor that caught them with an innocent frown. Shaking his head, as he chokes back a smirk, watching the teacher swivel their gaze to James and Sirius as they sputter and deny. He loved watching James and Sirius’ faces contort into rage as he gave them a sarcastic little wave while Peter conspicuously stuck his tongue out at them as they get escorted to McGonagall’s office.
The hours they spent insulting each other past the point of no return were some of the best moments he had. The best insult to this day was in March, 5th year, when Lily walked in and witnessed them cursing at each other. “Prongs are you sure you don’t have gold in your hair? Because it looks like a hoard of Nifflers ran through it!” “Padfoot, It just shows I’m too expensive for your cheap ass” to which she interrupted with “Potter, if you were rich, maybe you could afford some manners.” And flounced off. Remus laughed so hard, Sirius almost admitted him to St. Mungos.
Since spending time with the Marauders, laughter came so much easier for Remus. A ‘St Mungos enrollment for contagious laughter’ was a constant point brought up between Peter, James and Sirius’ discussions about Remus. He laughed so much that he was “silencioed” more times than he would like to admit.
Until one day he felt like he was hit by the killing curse of ‘silencio’. The day a piece of his heart broke as the rest of the world rejoiced in the ‘Downfall of Voldemort.’ The contagious laughter was forgotten, locked away in his mind, reserved for a world that had fallen down around him.
Peter loved the way he was relied heavily on to get them out of trouble. How, if they get caught doing something suspicious, he’s always the one to shoved in front to create a story to which the marauders all aggressively nod their heads in agreement.
He was named “reigning chess champion of Gryffindor House” and was even given a crown (a christmas hat) for his “absolutely spiffing” skill. He loved the strategy of it and how one move could put all the other pawns lives on line. (A fact, that Peter should have realised more carefully when choosing between family and safety.)
Peter's ideas put the icing on the cake. He thought up the name for their little group, “What about The Talented Pricks? No? Ok, it is a bit rude even if we sorta, you know.. are ones.” He gave them the idea for putting their names on the map. “Why don’t we sign it with our nicknames? I want the world to remember us somehow.” He was the one that decided they should help Moony. He told James in 7th year it was now or never to ask Lily one last time. The way the others' eyes lit up with satisfaction and amazement at his proposals swelled Peter with pride. He wanted to do anything for them.
One thing he wanted the most was their ensured safety. When Voldemort’s plan for Lily and James was revealed, he was already too far in to say no. He was told all information passed to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named would protect his friends. But to no avail. It all came down to how even a traitor can be betrayed.
In the end, you can see what made them happy was the situation they were in with each other, together. Until, in 1981, a wolf, rat, dog and stag became a broken child, traitorous friend, imprisoned innocent and a dead man. Because of each other’s actions.
Remus Lupin
Age: Nineteen
Affiliation: Order Member
Blood Status: Halfblood
Career: Unemployed
Tumblr media
RUMOR HAS IT… This quiet soul is hiding a huge secret. Could even say the secret is as big as the moon. Remus has always been one of the more reserved members of the marauders, but he never is too shy to tell his friends when they are doing something stupid. Definitely the only one with any real brains within the group of boys, this little moon child is sure to keep his distance from people and keep his secret close to his heart. Can he really trust that his secret will never see the light?
Tumblr media
A BRISK SPRING EVENING: born to hope and lyall lupin on march 10th, 1960, remus john lupin was a happy and problem-less child; he hardly cried, never posed his parents any problems and often slept soundly. the family were happy. the lupin household peaceful. for the first four years. barely four years old, remus lupin slept peacefully in his bed, as he often did. the breakage of a window, their childs’ pained cries. the lupins’ awoke, and lyall ran to check on their son. that night, werewolf fenrir greyback broke into the lupin home and attacked their boy, inflicting him with the lycanthropy that he himself had. the werewolf curse. a payback against lyall , for labeling greyback a monster, worthy of only death. now his son was the very monster lyall so hated. a perfect revenge. the family visited healer upon healer, desperate for a cure, for their son back to normal. but coming up empty at every turn.
THE NEXT FULL MOON: still merely a child, four years of age, abandoned alone in the cellar, chained to the wall. confused and afraid. bad emotions for a werewolf to feel before a shift. you see, the wolf harnesses whatever emotions it’s host is feeling, and acts in accordance. negative emotions equate to a bad shift, leaving child remus lupin screaming in agony as bones break and rejoin and the wolf takes over. his parents away from the scene, hope lupin crying, her heartbreak over her broken son evident, wanting nothing more than to help him, but being unable. when he came to in the morning, remus sported fresh scars, cuts and bruises that he knew, even then, would never fade. a constant reminder. his parents had explained it all, the night of the attack, but the boy now understood the severity of his situation. he’d have no friends, no relationships. they were too much of a risk. he wouldn’t go outside of his home to play with the other children, he’d stay inside, read his books and have his schooling from home.
HOGWARTS: remus had thought that he’d have to pass on his hogwarts invitation, posing far too much of a threat to the other poor witches and wizards in attendance and far too afraid to ever hurt anyone. but headmaster dumbledore had reassured him and his parents that precautions were already in place. select teachers were aware of his condition and on the full moon he would be taken to a shack just outside of the hogwarts grounds, with special precautions in place to prevent trespassers an enclosed area with no way out, perfect for keeping the wolf in and away from everyone. his parents had allowed it, after some convincing of his dad on his mothers’ part, and the september following his eleventh birthday saw remus heading off to his first year at hogwarts. sitting in a far off compartment, book in hand and eyes glued to the pages, alone until he was not. accompanied by another boy, shy seeming, but friendly. peter pettigrew. both remus and his new found friend were sorted into gryffindor house, where they caught the attention of two seemingly loud and rambunctious first years. remus easily befriended them, and two quickly became four. remus told his three friends that his mum was deathly ill, explaining his monthly disappearances as visits to his home to see her. but by his second year at hogwarts, they had figured out the truth. afraid and panicked, remus was assured by all three boys that it wouldn’t affect their friendship. he feels indebted to them for not abandoning him, his fear of being abandoned less of one now that he still had them. FIFTH YEAR, james potter, sirius black and peter pettigrew dragged him into the forest, proudly showing off their new animal forms. disbelief struck. they had illegally become animagi in order to help him through his monthly ordeals. james, a stag. sirius, a black dog, and peter a rat. the four quickly adapted their new nicknames, labeling themselves the marauders, and the full moon became less of a chore and more something to look forward to. the pain still unbearable, but easier to deal with thanks to his friends’ company.
THE PRANK: the morning after the full moon was always one filled with pain and remus would often find himself overwhelmed with a wave of exhaustion and aches in his bones. but this time there had been something else, a thought stuck at the forefront of his mind: did i hurt someone ? it felt different, for the first time since he’d began being accompanied by the marauders, he was worried that something had gone wrong. it was a gut feeling, one he couldn’t shake. it had been professor dumbeldore that had informed him of what had happened: severus snape had happened upon the shrieking shack, witnessing the end of remus’ shift into the wolf. his heart dropped into his stomach, but before he could assume the worst, he was assured that snape was fine, sworn to secrecy and wouldn’t be telling anybody, and that he had been saved from any attack by james. though it was the news that followed that shocked him most. that it had been sirius, one of his best friends, that had taken it upon himself to tell snape how he could get into the shack. he felt utterly betrayed. he had never wanted his friends to know the truth about him, he’d tried desperately to keep that part of himself hidden. the part he so despised. yet they had found out, and he had been relieved; relieved to not have to lie to them, to not have to hide anymore. he had been foolish to trust that they would keep it hidden, that they truly thought nothing of it. and yet he had been made to be seen as a monster, like he already feared it was. one of the people he was closest to had treated him like a means for a petty revenge scheme, used him like a wand, all to get to snape for whatever reason. it hurt to think about. he was unconditionally loyal to his friends, grateful to them for not abandoning him and not treating him like the monster he believed himself to be. remus lupin has always had an immense respect towards his friends, even putting up with their incessant bullying when he didn’t agree with it, for them. perhaps that had been a mistake. he finds himself wondering now if they ever truly felt the same for him as he does for them. he’s unsure of what to do now, feeling the heavy tension between the group and knowing he’s part of the reason behind it. but betrayal is a hard thing to forgive and forget.
THE ATTACKER: the ministry fallen, voldemort in control. it’s the worst thing imaginable for anybody with a heart, and given the already terrible attitude against werewolves like himself, remus was terrified. the only werewolves truly safe were the ones on voldemorts’ side; he’d kill any others, his blood purist, racist ideals extending to half-breeds. the only one truly safe, that remus could recall, was one fenrir greyback. the very monster that had turned him into one to, for his petty revenge. there is nobody in the world that remus holds hatred for as much as greyback, tied alongside he who must not be named himself. remus had been an innocent boy when the curse had been inflicted upon him. he had done nothing wrong and wasn’t deserving of such a horrible life-altering change. he had despised his dad for the first few years, blaming lyall for his attack. if he hadn’t lashed out against werewolves fenrir greyback would have felt no need to infect his son, and yet he had. FEAR wasn’t an emotion he felt often in relation to another person, but if there were one person remus was truly afraid of, it would be greyback. and with him in line with the dark lord, who had just taken down the ministry, trouble was most definitely heading his way.
Tumblr media
JAMES POTTER, SIRIUS BLACK, PETER PETTIGREW – His three best friends, his most trusted advisors, there’s nothing that Remus wouldn’t do for his friends. However, their dynamic has been especially estranged since the ‘incident’ at the Whomping Willow. Sirius could have made him a killer in his heated need for getting one-up on Severus, he can’t help but think in the back of his mind that none of the boys respect him as much as he does them.
FENRIR GREYBACK – The man who made him the monster that he is, there’s a loathing for Fenrir that’s unparalleled, the strongest emotion he’s ever felt. If he’d come face to face with the man on the battlefield there’s no telling just how far Remus would go.
SEVERUS SNAPE – There’s no way that Severus could have known it was him in the werewolf body and yet there’s a voice in the back of his mind telling him otherwise. If the man does know his secret he’s yet to spill it but paranoia keeps him on his toes, waiting for something that he hopes never comes.
FURTHER CONNECTIONS - BIOS REMUS LUPIN IS MENTIONED ON.
Remus Lupin is currently a TAKEN character with a FC of Tom Holland. FC SUGGESTIONS: daniel sharman, tom holland, chance perdomo.
