Dani Rambles about COPII.... chapter 9

Okay, firstly I know I am literally behind on everything!!! I'm sorry, the past few days have been crazy so I'm trying to get caught up today but needed to read chapter 9 so that I could make prompts for the book club so here we are.

I actually found this to be one of the most interesting chapters in a while. I feel like we got some information and it felt like we could have a moment with Trystan that wasn't physical and we could see their relationship growing, as well as actually focus on the case!

I'm very disappointed the twins didn't have any actual information, that's just such a tease on PB's part, but revealing that information now would be too easy, so I get it. Well played on their cliff hanger.

I loved seeing Trystan bond with Juli's moms. Seeing that relationship mended has meant more than anything else. Seeing Eliose forgive Trystan and literally cheer on Lilah was such a heartfelt and beautiful moment. I loved it! (and also when Trystan said he wasn't good enough for Juli and the moms said he was 🥹😭❤️

(also the more we learn about Juli, the more wonderful I think she was and I kinda love her)

But the scene in Juli's room!!!

Okay so, I have lots of thoughts, they're not really coherent so I apologize.

The letter's were interesting, I really don't think it's Bas, they've literally been pointing fingers at Bas since we got to Drakovia. If it were him that'd be a huge let down. I chose the option that MC says she thought his letter sounded like a friends vacation trip. I thought it was funny to see that Astrid wrote complaining about her siblings, it could just be a quick funny Astrid moment, of course she would be complaining, but Astrid doesn't seem the type to send letters complaining to just anyone... we've never seen her and Juli mentioned as friends (or am I blanking?) so could there be more to them than that? No letters from Vasili though 🤔 (I still think Vasili is Juli's lover and Eveline knew about it)

The nightingale whistle!!!

ugh, so I've been a bit emotion about Nightingales for a couple weeks now, thanks Neil Gaiman and Good Omens. If you don't know, you're better off, the angst is real and my heart can't take waiting 4+ years for season 3.... 💔😭

But I digress,

So Nightingales are interesting birds especially with the symbolism they carry. And even in the chapter they mention star crossed lovers as part of that symbolism which is totally on point so It could just end there, but then I thought of Romeo and Juliet and their conversation about the bird and whether it's a nightingale or a lark.

In the play Juliet (whose name begins with Juli (like Juliana)), she believes the bird is a lark and represents light/morning (and their time together must end), where Romeo says it's a nightingale so it's still night and they have more time together.

Perhaps in COP, Juli is the lark and her mystery lover is the nightingale (who thought wanted more time with her even after night had past)

What that means, I really don't know, but here we are.

Then the shocking(?) twist that there might be another heir... i mean I think a lot of us probably thought that. I mean you have 9 heirs already, what's one more. But the missing heir might be the queen's?

I don't know if we've met them already, of the background characters we met so far, the only 2 I could think of would be Bird (only because his nickname is bird and he was randomly mentioned in this book, when the crime really didn't fit his mo) and the royal assistant (who just seems awkward around the family. I thought she might be Eveline's secret daughter, but maybe the queens?

Or maybe it's someone we haven't met yet.. or maybe one of the Thornes we know isn't really the King's. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe if the Queen has a child older than Trystan, maybe it's why she is so hard on him. She knows he is destined for the crown but not deserving? But also, why wouldn't she have been more supportive of the bill?

Lots of thoughts, I'm sure I'll be back with more. If you made it this far, you totally deserve a gold star!

Oh, and one more thought... if the Queen does have a lover, that would finally explain Patryk lol that boy does not fit in.

Wouldn't it be fun if Trystan weren't the King's how easily that would tie things off! But I don't get why the queen or anyone would want to stop the act then, if passed it would make any of her children (by the king or anyone else) legitimate so she could get Trystan in without worry if the act went through. So many questions. So little information

Sorry if you have already answered this, but what are your thoughts on the heroes? At the beginning and now. Have you changed your opinion on them?

Don’t worry bout it, I wasn’t asked this question😭.

My opinion of the team did somewhat change?? Maybe??

I enjoyed their personalities and how they were introduced and the dynamic with each other, especially of Ava making a bet with the boys that she would clean the restrooms, it was a cute moment to see. It always felt as if they were an actual friend group without Peter around and I sometimes saw Peter as the odd one out of the group (which could’ve been a good storyline imo).

I wish their fears from S1 Ep13 were given more focus in the season and actually saw signs of them with those fears. I kinda didn’t like how Danny was so calm about watching the team’s fears😭😭 I just hoped he gave more emotion watching them and him and Peter speaking with the team privately about their fears. It could’ve shown that they care for the group on a deeper level and shown more of Danny’s stubborn character of wanting to help the group as a peacemaker, a level of trust could’ve been shown between Peter and Danny on a personal level than just Iron Fist and Spider-Man, I wouldn’t have mind an episode of both of them helping the group as Peter and Danny.

I cared for the group in the beginning but often I saw them as background characters who didn’t seem to care for Peter that much, with the exception of Danny since he actually does show appreciation in Peter and wants him to succeed by giving advice.

When S2 came, they were basically the same as S1 and were pretty disrespectful towards Peter by attempting to start a party in the house without his acknowledgment. Whether they meant the party to be from the heart or not, it’s disrespectful to do that to a friend’s house who was kind enough to allow them to stay in the house and they were so easily forgiven after the house came down😭😭. They weren’t likeable at that episode.

I did enjoy their solo episodes but I like Ava’s episode the most, out of all of them, we recieved the most lore from her and having Peter relate to her and supporting her. We get to actually see more of her character unlike other episodes and saw the boys showing concern of her behavior.

I expected the same treatment to be given to the others but it sucked to be honest 😭. Sam’s episode wasn’t even about him, his family, why he behaves the way that he does, how he got his powers, it felt more like sponsoring the Guardians of the Galaxy than it being a solo episode of Sam.

Danny’s episode is mainly about Peter more than Danny. It could’ve shown a sense of determination in Danny of still participating in the race against Scorpion and hate having to rely on Peter to do the race for him as a sign of insecurity mentioned in S1 Ep13. It could’ve been another episode of both of them revealing their self doubt of themselves and learn from each other such as Peter did for Ava. (Also it could’ve been a cuter spideyfist moment for my heart).

Luke’s solo episode was alright. I don’t like the idea of his parents being SHIELD agents and how he got his powers but it was fine. I would’ve liked it if they gave Luke’s origin the same in the comics of being involved in a gang and being abandoned by his dad and brother after his mom died. It could’ve tied back to his fear in S1 Ep13 of the need to protect everyone and Peter finds it admirable and both can connect about it.

They were more likable in the second season but the next seasons, we never saw them that much anymore💀💀

Spider-Man left the Avengers for them and yet we don’t see them together the next 2 seasons until they became classmates in SHIELD Academy.

I cared immensely for them enough to the point of begging to see them appear again as a team so I was pretty disappointed.

Writing them now, I care heavily for them. I just wish we were given more moments of them as teenagers than as heroes in the show.

It's not a reoccurring dream but why do I see 3 historical characters in my dream

First : I was running ( escaping) then I ended up in my house to see Joseph Stalin sitting across from me scrolling through his smart phone he greeted , I saw my recently dead grandma too in the house then he took his plane which was barked inside my apartment (bizarre ik) and left

Another scene from the same dream : I was in a place where there are some people ( not too crowded ) and saw the physicist Richard Feynman he explained to me a math problem or a concept it clicked very fast and I explained it to another student and Feynman was kinda happy / proud

Dream 2: let me give you a background I am a very big fan of this character I saw him as the only real national hero he was extremely intelligent, disciplined and humble his name is Saad Alshazly

I saw him ( in his older years ) and he offered me traditional coffee ( I am a coffee drinker)

I really hope that I saw him because of a message not because I think too much about him 😭

Since this is all you remember, I guess this is what you needed to understand your message. Now I honestly don't think any of those historical figures wanted to tell you anything directly, they're more of a sign/symbol for you. They represent the type of people you admire (in a way or another) and would like to resemble or would like to get in touch with, whether to find support/help or even validation. We have a revolutionary man (talking historically here), a physician (a man of knowledge) and a military you said yourself you admire and are so fond of for all that he did. I think you are searching for support, maybe also through your grieving process (again my deepest condelences for your loss, take your time) or for comfort about any repressed memory or emotion. Despite these people are no more alive, you're trying to find some kind of support by learning more about them, or something like that. Or trying to see yourself (worth) through them. In the first dream you were probably expressing your will to connect with Stalin for some reason (it depends on what you think of him/how you see him/what trait of him you "like" or sth), maybe also to find comfort or change something in the way you are grieving/confronting your loss or any emotion related with it? Maybe you want to be braver in this, or would like to be free from this asap. Or simply, you'd like to see things from another perspective. As for your exchange with the physician, I guess you were searching for validation, feeling good and smart enough and being seen/appreciated/praised for this (maybe you are/were comparing/compared with others a lot and this has been/is playing with your self confidence). Similarly the third figure: you admire him so much that you'd like to communicate with him, maybe to get guidance about how to change and grow from something. But also to be comforted about yourself and all that's around you and maybe... your inner turmoil? We have two military figures anyway.

your wirting is so descriptive and like emotional in a way it's like entering into the world of the fic, your way with words is just magical!!!! really love it! could you give some tips/advice on how you have managed to build your skills to this good of a level? is there anything specific you do while writing fics that give you inspiration?

Just a disclaimer, I don’t have a literature/creative writing background or anything. But my writing experience is on the analytical side as a political science major but I suppose that helped in writing in general. But at least by personal experience, I can share a few things but pls also check out other sources! Super long post ahead 👇🏽

First of all, I’m an emotional person in general. I feel a lot and looking back, I think journaling as a child helped in my ability to express my emotions. I won’t say I was an avid reader but I would read growing up; Paulo Coelho was a staple. By the time I was in high school, I would write short passages and short stories about what I was experiencing so I really started way before my fanfic era. Secondly, I was going through a tough time from 2021-2022, and that was when I was most prolific, so there was really a lot to say. So in a way, my emotional way of writing was also a coping mechanism. Now for the tips:

Intent. I started reading BTS fanfic right when the pandemic started and I found a lot of comfort in them. And so when I started writing, it was my intention to give comfort as well, and I personally believe that being emotionally vulnerable is one way to do that. I like to balance the rawness with warmth so there will always be supporting characters whose main purpose is to give care and comfort. With that, I'm able to go all out with the emotions without leaving the reader too overwhelmed by them. But it starts with the intention because you have to...

Build it within the story, and not just in scenes or as character traits. You have to be consistent so don't just describe the setting, describe the characters' emotions as well all throughout. I would give my characters specific scenes where they're really just thinking and feeling (it's also a personal practice of mine!) or having moments where they're just taking things in. So it's important to actually let them feel. Which is also why...

You, as a writer, should allow yourself to also feel. Pull from somewhere personal if you can, or from something familiar. One reason I think the stories are as impactful (and this is based off the wonderful messages I've received) is because I let myself be vulnerable through them, which is also why I say that there's a piece of me in everything I write. There's no one story that is my story, but there's at least an experience, a thought, a mindset, a personality trait, a specific fear, and a belief of mine integrated in the characters/stories. It'll feel a lot more natural that way and also more cathartic. To do this, I would literally have moments of just sitting down with my eyes closed. 😂

Play around with the POVs. I do mixed POVs in all my stories and I find that more effective in bringing in the emotions because the reader is able to know (and feel) what all the characters are feeling, especially during a specific scene. There's that omnipotence where you're able to know the narrative of another character as well so the story is basically laid out for you. It may not be the best if you want plot twists or the shock factor, but those aren't really my intent, although the mixed POVs is also a good tool for those. One of my favourite things I've written is when [SPOILER⛔️] in TLA, Amma was talking about Yoongi's letters and you get to read his POV through her. It's the make-your-own-rules-in-fanfiction that makes it fun!

Envision your core scenes and build up to that. Before writing a story, I already know what scenes will drive it. PLM started off as a scene of JK hugging OC from the back and feeling sorry and I thought, what would bring them to that point? Oh, I want them to have a major fight, so [SPOILER⛔️] I had to build up OC being protective of her emotions so when she cried for the first time, it was emotional. I also envisioned Inevitable to have that scene of [SPOILER⛔️] OC breaking down while watching father-and-son bond but I think what added to that was Jungwon wiping her tears, so I made sure to mention that prior. This is also why I describe scenes a lot and why I pay attention to details. I like pulling them out during key moments.

Be patient with yourself. The dialogues could come right away like in the FFY [SPOILER⛔️] scene of JK going to OC in the water, that speech was written before I even finished writing chapter 1 and I had to wait to write the entire story before I could get to that but that was my basis. Or the dialogues could come at a later time and that's also fine. Don't rush it! The perfect line that would usually make your scene will come.

Be inspired by any types of art and immerse yourself in it as you write. I made playlists for PLM, ASDOAH, and Belong that I constantly listened to while writing. Untitled is Indigo in story form for me. TLODS was inspired by the story Dead Stars that I kept reading as well. ASDOAH was inspired by the poem Mouthful of Forevers. Seeing the Tumblr posts about grief and loss helped while writing TLA. Even everyday things can give you inspiration! They help with meaning, feeling, and expression.

TW for suggestive themes and angst i mean...this is doomhead we're talking about

- my backstory headcanons differ slightly from yours (please check out imeldas DH headcanons theyre great!);

- i think he came from a well-off family but was definitely abused and neglected. growing up in the time and place that he did, he had no support and was forced to take his future into his own hands. he probably ran away or estranged himself from his family as early as possible (possibly stealing a few stacks to keep him afloat)

- pre 31 he was most likely a petty criminal who got mixed up in some violence, possibly word got around and he was picked up by Father Murder (i imagine it the same way models are recruited on the street and thats funny)

- i agree that hes been in 31 since its conception, hes definitely the top dog, the most reliable and efficient Head out there. I'd like to think Father taught him a thing or two about hunting numbers down (and how to clean his messier kills) so younger/less experienced Heads definitely aim to be at least acknowledged by him

- i think doomie does many odd jobs just to pass time between 31 ; security at seedy bars, occasional plumbing/installation jobs etc. not only does it help with his small-time acting (being able to play and adapt to many roles) but it also allows him to slip into the background of the community. hes not too important but not too insignificant either

- i think the face paint and theatrics was his idea. i believe Father (and co) are just hardcore snuff/sadists and just wanted to see their victims in fear, but DH really took it upon himself to add character (and subsequently more fear) to his job! slay

- being involved with 31 and all, i think he has a few connections with organized criminals, especially considering he has to obtain fake IDs and alibis. hes grown quite friendly with a few respected mobsters and its rewarded him handsomely

- with all this said! i don't think hes some perfectly suave, totally composed Casanova, i believe hes really scared of feeling vulnerable and that makes it hard for him to form any relationships that arent superficial, simply because he doesnt know how to cope well with feeling exposed and emotional around others.

- i diagnose him with (gay) BPD and i think hes very insecure abt that fact. he was probably taught that his emotions were bad so he puts extensive effort into seeming composed and put together around people. one good thing about 31 is that its a space where his bizarre outbursts or even mania is not only accepted but embraced/rewarded so hes got that going for him i guess??

- i think, deep down, he'd really love a somewhat domestic relationship; having somebody at home to eat with, a partner he can rely on, to be cared for and care for someone else. hes a sap at heart, hes just very scared of showing it

- probably wouldn't want kids, even in an accidental knock-up, he'd slip his baby mama plenty of scratch and encourage her to find a man thatll support them. he can always be the distant but fatherly family friend but thats really it (UNLESS you're his s/o then thats a completely different story-)

- probably neurodivergent in some way, simply because i see him as incredibly observant, analytical and calculated when hes focused/interested, traits i typically see in other ND people lol

- my doomhead is definitely queer, he doesnt use labels but i see him spending time at drag shows (in the corner silently handing the queen a stack of cash LOL) at underground gay bars (and had a few fellas for company ykk😏) hes more than aware of the struggles of having no family to support you and needing to make ends meet no matter what (since hes been there himself) so he has respect for such folks

- hes SO committal, especially because he doesn't have many healthy long term relationships. hookups dont mean much to him and really just give him dopamine boosts during the lull of a lonely life (#bars). if you're his s/o, you're his life partner, he would kill and die for you 100%. even if you guys split he would probably just give up on relationships then and there (as sad as that sounds lmao)

- ik the movie is set in the 70s but in a modern setting, i think he'd listen to some quirky, creepy music. probably genres like glam rock and dark cabaret (think scissor sisters and the dresden dolls)

I have finally finished watching RESET (technically I watched it the other day, but whatever) and wow, I really loved this show.

A little summary: Li Shiqing and Xiao Heyun are stuck in a time loop. They're on a bus that keeps exploding, and they need to find the cause of the explosion so they can stop it from happening – and hopefully put an end to the loop.

The series consists of 15 episodes and they're all available on YouTube and Viki.

Okay, so: I love time loops. There's a lot you can do with this concept, a whole sea of possibilities you can explore. They can get frustrating if you don't handle them well, but it's definitely not the case for this show, which kept my interest from start to finish.

This show has everything: good characters, a good mystery, funny moments, interesting conflicts, good pacing, some twists, and a satisfying ending. I'm so glad I watched it ~

Also wow, the acting is VERY good. Especially one character, but I'm not gonna say who. If you watch the whole thing you'll know who I'm talking about 👀

ABOUT THE CHARACTERS

The main characters are really likeable and relatable, and the secondary and background ones are interesting too. Each passenger has their own story that is explored while Li Shiqing and Xiao Heyun carry on with their investigation, and some of them made me so emotional 🥺

Li Shiqing is amazing. She's smart, she's determined, but above all she's very compassionate. She cares about people and wants to save everyone from their fate, I think she's a very admirable character.

Xiao Heyun is a living meme. I swear his expressions always sent me. He's very relatable to me because he's logical and pragmatic, but he also has a strong moral compass (which is often strengthened by Shiqing's presence) so in the end even when he wants to protect himself he always decides to do the right thing.

Lu (Apostle of Cats, Conqueror of Asthma, Chosen One of the Light) Di is such an awesome character! I love love love him, he's so sweet but also the way he wants to be a hero? To get the chance to save the world? Precious 💖

All of them go through so much, although the ones who suffer the most are Shiqing and Heyun, since they remember everything.

So much trauma, guys 😩

ABOUT THE STORY

The mystery surrounding the explosion is handled very well because there are layers to it. You think you know what's going and on and then nope you don't! There's always something you're missing.

I loved how there were little details sprinkled here and there throughout the series which you could only truly appreciate at the end :)

The ending made me so emotional I cried 😭

ABOUT THE THEMES

This show deals with many themes because of how it's structured. Since we get a glimpse of every passenger and their story, we come in contact with very different backgrounds and situations. Some of them are very poor, others struggle with family issues and guilt.

And then of course there's the theme of justice... and also the questions raised by the loop itself: since no one will remember what we do when the day starts again, does it mean it doesn't matter?

not trying to a hater but sometimes i watch d*** fancams just to see what kind of scenes they have and its mostly just in dan's apartment😭😭 but its the same with every gg ship except chair, the writers were biased and i support them!

Why Blair and Chuck have the most iconic scenes

Hahah the nasty me would say writers were clearly showing who their favorite couple is. They loved writing Chair so they gave them all the amazing scenes.

But if I were to answer it on a more serious note I’d give two options.

One is simply business. Blair and Chuck from mid s1 were and are fan favorite, they were bringing the audience, they were heating up the pages of magazines so they were the ones bringing the numbers. Bigger the scenes, bigger the numbers. Simple math, they weren’t going to waste their budget on couples that caused them 200k viewers in the middle of the episode but more importantly they weren’t going to waste the budget and stories on ships that were just their to prolong the ending, and that’s not just a case with dair it’s a case with many other ships. The only ship that was anywhere close to Chair in terms of iconic moments is Derena which again very popular couple and more importantly a couple writers wanted as an endgame. Iconic romances require iconic scenes, writers want you root for them so they are gonna give scenes that are impossible to forget. 

There’s an another layer to it and that’s what sort of a couple a ship is, what sort of aesthetic writers were going for. Blair and Chuck had the most iconic moments, sort of taken from the old Hollywood movies simply because that was the aesthetic writers were going for. They based them on the classics of the cinema and on iconic great romances, with huge emotional speeches, beautiful gowns and breathtaking backgrounds. They were writing to Chair to be that old school, great romance couple, living in 20’s star crossed lovers. Their scenes are much more cinematic and memorable because that’s what fit their lover story but also them as individual characters. Because as of you may recall my previous post about their interests (a link at the bottom of the post). They both loved old Hollywood, they both loved opera, they both loved the drama so to them those moments were the extension of the passions over which they bonded, those moments were also the love language that they both understood best and love language they desired.

With any other ship those scenes wouldn’t work as they wouldn’t fit other characters but also wouldn’t fit the aesthetic of the ship, it’d seem horribly out of place and out of character.

Now steve jr really is such a son to omega 🥹 The way she feels so happy seeing Steve treat their son so sweetly, like calling him his actual name and ruffling his belly fur, and the fact that seeing this makes her heart melt 🥹 “He’s my baby” PLEASE my heart just exploded, I would give my life for omega to live her life with Steve jr always in it - Bucky end me, not steve jr, I am prepared for this sacrifice 😭

And it didn’t seem ooc for Steve at all!!! He be drunk and it seemed completely fitting that he’d be an affectionate drunk to his omega 🥰, and the other drabbles let us see that he has his soft spot for her, so this drabble really showed that he actually adores her and her cuteness and perfect omeganess, he just wouldn’t dare let his armour down when sober 😌

Omega being happier than she has ever been when Steve was being nice and affectionate toward her and her son was so bittersweet because we know all she ever really wants in life is for her and her alpha and her emotional support stuffie to live happily and nicely 🥺

the number one thing I love about him is that he's such a malewife. and no I'm really not joking, he loves cooking (he's even the team's designated healer!!!), he's an organized kid, is the person to stop arguements and many many more. he even washes sunny's dishes and cleans the house a little bit, we didn't even ask him to do anything... yet he did something! he's truly big brother material and I admire that. he really does care about his friends, and goes out of his way to help them even if he was always the person at the background, I think he deserves a big hug!

I also find it hilarious how the whole world really seems to like hero (it's even a game mechanic that hero charms and smooth talks npcs for the sake of the in-game puzzles), but he's always unsure how to handle such praises and love and I low-key felt that, he's relatable in that aspect. this goes to show that he's an admirable character but he's really hard on himself sometimes and thinking that he's never good enough. this goes on spoiler territory but I'll keep it brief - he feels responsible for all the disaster and bad things that happened to him and his friends, but its not even anyone's fault here, yet he's the one carrying the guilt the heaviest (at least that what he thinks, the other characters had it rough too) and im here crying like... NOOOO YOU YOURE JUST BEING SO SELFLESS STOP IT 😭😭😭

i want to be his emotional support friend because he's always the one by himself to maintain peace and it's always great to have someone to share the pain with because you'll know that you're not alone 😭 and after all the stuff he's been through I honestly just want to hug him and tell him everything's alright :'D i want him to have fun too!! and not always worry for the wellbeing of others!!

I agree with you so much 😭 I am so offended on behalf of Lucy and Tim that the writers are doing this to them. Lucy is my favorite character but I can feel that changing because I just can't stand how immature they've made her. With all she's been through with her kidnapping and Jackson (😭😭), she could have such impactful storylines, but NOOO let's just make her a jealous whiny little girl who doesn't even remember any of her traumas 🤬

I understand how you feel, completely. Lucy and Tim were each introduced as such cool, unique characters with interesting backstories and a clear sense of who they each were as individuals. Both flawed and both complementing one another pretty much perfectly.

And yet, for a couple of characters who've had some really heavy stuff happen to them, they've both become oddly superficial. The show has shied away from the emotional fallout of events and despite including very dark storylines, they rarely follow them through. It feels like the writers are no longer as capable of combining serious drama with comedy as per s1-2 and are more comfortable paddling in the light comedy/slapstick action genre.

The show's become mostly about hammy action sequences, sparkly guest characters, fire and explosions, and jokes. So many attempts at jokes. Even when grim things are ostensibly happening.

Lucy as a character is suffering the consequences the most, for me. She hasn't got a clear role, she's just sort of in the background, and not really as Tim's foil anymore. The beauty of their sunshine/grumpy dynamic has gone because Tim has himself become a flirty, schmoozing ray of sunshine, and Lucy's become a 20 year old college roommate.

She gets paired off with other characters and bumped around mid episode, depending on what either Nolan or Tim is otherwise occupied with, since they generally have actual plot drivers of their own.

She's given occasional action scenes and a lot of jokey dialogue, but if I ask you what her arc / character development has been in the last six episodes, what can we really point to? How many of her lines have been purely in support of other characters' arcs? How many are played for laughs?

I hope the back end does better than this for her, because I still love Lucy so much.

i was on the edge of my seat for today being the last shinflag saturday but it didn’t happen bc no subs yet 😭 so in order to keep myself from going outta my mind i mainlined the rest of mozu s1

this show is crazy, bro... not even sure where to start. so much violent murder and torture... conspiracies on top of conspiracies... but most importantly the atmosphere fucks so hard. love all that neon. the rain. the constant and i mean CONSTANT smoking. epic stuff.

the earlier eps were great but it did start to lose me as it neared the end. the overcomplicated political bs with who’s puppeteering who and why mostly just went in one ear and out the other. and i never really got the main villainous plan? wouldn’t assassinating a foreign president just cause a major international incident more than it would rally people to support police reforms or whatever.... i dunno. shit like that is all beyond my pea brain anyway.

but as for something more oryxcore, mr fruity villain citing the ones that walk away from omelas was a wild experience, like that is NOT the type of literary reference i expect in crime jdramas. he is a fun bitch for sure. the jinga of mozu. was a little disappointed that he didn’t actually have a ton to do here. maybe the 2nd season is more his moment?

i wish our lead guy wasn’t quite so “hollow” as he puts it. like it makes sense for him to be but his lack of emotions (other than occasionally rage) starts to feel kind of dull to watch as it wears on. i would’ve liked him to have broken down from the crushing weight of his repressed feelings at least once.

and the decision to have the crazed murderer character be someone who crossdresses is really. it’s uhh. 😬 like this is no silence of the lambs or anything, this character is portrayed in a semi sympathetic way. nobody else in the cast (other than that traumatized little girl but i guess she can be forgiven) makes any disparaging remarks about him that i can recall. and the show actually does seem to understand the difference between crossdressing and being transgender and seems pretty clear on the fact that this character isn’t trans. but the optics of having a serial killer be a man who wears skirts and wigs and makeup is just so bad regardless...

other than rethinking THAT writing choice my biggest wish for this show would be for it to have leaned into horror more. like supernatural horror. they still haven’t explained their in-universe “have you seen this man in your dreams” but i’m sure it will end up having a real world explanation of some sort whereas i want it to be like. an SCP. i want there to be something paranormally uncanny happening in the background of all these more “realistic” horrors. the directing of this show would be so good for that kind of thing. kind of feels like the vibes are being wasted on plain old shady political dealings.
