had a question that i know you've mentioned but i cannot for the life of me find - what's the general timeline like on each boyish chapter? is it usually a year a semester per chapter?

thank you!! and rip callum and kyle fr it could’ve gone a lot worse but i imagine they were complaining to each other in private. they couldn’t have known exactly what they were getting themselves into when they chose the room assignments…

and each chapter is about a semester! usually i do like the summer to the end of the year (aka logan’s birthday, he’s a new year’s eve baby) then the next chapter is january to like the start of the summer. i started doing it that way when they got to high school iirc so i know the first few chapters are each several years because. writing kids is writing kids. it gets more fun once they’re teenagers lol

but you can do that math on that there’s 6 chapters left as it’s outlined aka 6 semesters of college. it’s college time hehe… i can’t be sure how many of you were around/saw the posts from when i talked about which characters appear now that they’re in college. it will be fun though. smiles

"can you treat a trans woman as an equal if she has visible facial hair, or a trans man who has visible breasts?" is a good starting point but let me ask you some more questions.

could you have a normal conversation with a 50 year old transsexual who still considers himself a mother to his son? can you be in community with retransitioners and genderqueer people with non-normative transition trajectories? can you have a nice chat with someone who was afab and calls themself transfemme, or with someone who was amab and calls themself transmasc?

and even more! do you welcome the guy in a dress who calls himself a transvestite and has been doing drag every saturday for the past 10 years to your pride parade? are you willing to hear out the young woman who had bottom surgery at 18 and now kinda wishes she didn't? do you actually respect the people who decide not to go on hrt or to get surgery due to their family's medical history?

they may be hypothetical to you, but those are the people i have met and hang out with every day.

and you might answer yes to all of these, obviously, but could you actually say that when actually meeting them? because i've seen for myself that, no, the hypothetical and reality don't always align.

so one of the things I was vaguely aware of before reproducing was that people hold a lot of anxiety around the gender of babies and 'wrongly' gendering babies (i.e. failing to guess correctly based on their clothes and appearance what their genital configuration is) and having now had a baby: wow, yes, they really do.

I take an extremely laissez-faire approach to baby clothes because like, they are constantly being thrown up on and grown out of and so on, what matters is that they are clean and easy to put on and I am not spending $$$$$ on them. as long as the colour/design is not directly offensive, it's fine. what this means is that people are quite frequently 'misgendering' the baby and then falling over themselves to apologise about it.

and, like, I haven't even had a chance to dress him in anything pink yet; this is based on rules I didn't expect like 'anything with flowers or sparkly bits on it is for girls only'. equally, I do not care when this happens because it's an irrelevancy, but THEY care to make sure I am not offended. so I have started telling them "look, he's only [x] months old; his gender is baby."

and you know what? you'd be surprised how many otherwise average heterosexual people process this and go "huh, yeah, I guess it is." there is a tiny amount of hope for the future after all.
