through gritted teeth as i reassemble my life again and again: the four most important words are once upon a time the four most important words are once upon a time
2023 was my year of procrastination; I didn't draw very much because I didn't think I was good enough.
2024 will be my year of suck; I will allow myself to be bad, because that is the only way to get good. I will draw terribly. I will post stuff I'm not proud of. I will not self-deprecate or compare myself to others. I will suck, and that will set me free!
You ever do something not thinking much of it, but after you do it you realize it was actually like a genius move?
This happened to me with my story: Started it off with a fairly standard conflict; someone wants what Tuon has. But afterward I was like "Oh shit, this is a prime opportunity to show his unyielding guardianship!" But not only that, I also realized that it did a great job at reflecting his flaws and sort of foreshadowing them to the reader
Oh man THATS SO GOOD!! It is so nifty when things work out like that, I hear you- long story relatively short, you betcha.
I had something like that with Aeonian, my Tav for Baldur's Gate 3. One of their quirks that I put down on paper early on was that the places were their muscles would be are rock hard - mainly because of the fact that they're cramming a monolithically sized form's worth of matter down into a humanoid body thats eight times smaller, hence putting a lot of strain on their body as a whole, but also à la a statue for a physical form.
"Statue for a physical form.... death and rebirth themes*......statue made of rock. wait."
Because I cannot escape my hyperfixations, geology was thrown back in my face in whence I was immediately reminded of the ROCK CYCLE:
-which can be pretty well-applied to the whole death and rebirth thing, not to mention a nifty little guideline as to how their character arc can go as well as Aeonian's place as a story in of themselves (long story, involves statues though) and their tendency to 'erode' themselves per se if it means getting where they need to be. Metamorphosis also links pretty cleanly here too, not only because of the metamorphic rock and its processes but because of parallels between Aeonian (embodiment of death [at sea]) and Thanatos, the greek personification of death, who is usually represented by way of butterflies.
I'm real bad at explaining things so I apologize if none of this made a lick of sense, I promise it's a lot clearer in my head and please feel free to ask for clarity on anything!! this is probably some of my favorite character work I've done so far
*dionysus+being the literal embodiment of death [at sea,] longer story
(Please talk more about Tuon he is SO cool and I talk too much, that's some really good character writing)
… I’m about to bite off waaaaaay more than I can chew with fanfics. I fully blame @homunculus101 for this. (Love you <3)
If you’re following any of my fics on AO3… I apologize for any delays in the current ones. But my Artemis Fowl brainrot just kicked up a notch. Fics are incoming in the next few days, and maybe even an update to the Jon Says No to Fairies AU.
I am allowing my DSMP brainrot to sit for a few days just to give myself a break from the… everything. But there might be some c!DiscDuo angst/fluff coming down the pipeline, plus the fic I’m working on for the gen bigbang event. So I’m not abandoning ship anytime soon.
If I’m found unresponsive in the five to seven business days, just know that I didn’t choose the fanfic life. The fanfic life chose me.
TAIYO: Indryr?
TAIYO: What is this place?
INDRYR: My makeshift laboratory. The clerics lent it to me for my stay.
TAIYO: Really? You’ve gotten on with the elves, then.
INDRYR: I had some spare time while you were all away. Anyways, did you need something?
TAIYO: U-uh, yes, well I wasn’t sure who else to ask. I thought maybe you could help me.
INDRYR: With the blood hex, you mean?
TAIYO: How did you know?
TAIYO: Oh… right…
INDRYR: I imagine that’s been a pain to hide.
TAIYO: I’ve mostly stayed in my room.
INDRYR: I can help you with the mark, but as for the curse, afraid you’re on your own.
TAIYO: Then, there’s nothing I can do?
INDRYR: I’m sure there’s something you can do. The rules of a hex are often set by the caster. It would take an incredibly powerful mage to be able to undo another’s handiwork. But if you want to lift the curse yourself, I’m afraid you’ll have to abide whatever stipulations were given to you. Unless, you don’t know them.
TAIYO: I’m not quite sure. The witch told me I’d have to spread the curse. And if I don’t, I’ll…
INDRYR: Sounds tricky, indeed. Infecting another person could kill you both. Or you could do everyone a favor and just die alone, I suppose.
TAIYO: T-Thanks, for that.
INDRYR: Without speaking to that witch, I can’t be certain. It seems to me like she intended for you to share the load. But don’t take my advice. There are plenty of powerful healers here at the sanctum. Though, surely none are studied in dark magic and will almost certainly be of no use to you.
TAIYO: That’s reassuring.
INDRYR: Everyone knows high elves practice light magic. But dark elves…
TAIYO: Are you saying I should ask him?
INDRYR: Well, why not?
TAIYO: I’m not particularly fond of Lord Tev’us.
INDRYR: I see. Well then, remain petty and perish. Here, this will lighten the mark for a while. You can take it once every two days. Any more than that and it’ll give you terrible indigestion.
TAIYO: I only have six days until the curse takes full effect.
INDRYR: Oh? Goodness. Better work it out quick, then! Good luck.
TAIYO: Thanks, Indryr.
INDRYR: Certainly. Now, what was I doing… I have no idea…
