Thinkin about dnd spell components, and how they could change depending on the campaign. Take for example, revivify - you need some kind of diamond worth 300gp to cast the spell.

But could the spell be cast with any material item worth 300gp? I personally would rule yes, of course. But then I ask the question of what that worth really means. For example, could a widow use her wedding ring she had from a partner who passed on that is not worth 300gp itself, but its worth in her memories and in her heart makes up the difference?

...I wonder what items the Riptide Pirates have that could amount to 300gp in emotional worth. Chip's coin from Arlin, potentially. Jay's pin of the Ferins, perhaps? The potential in how magic and casters view worth for components is endless.

I made a post asking a Certain group of fans a question, and in hindsight I probably shouldn't have bc no matter how nice I was about it, I was gonna get hate for it (that's how it is here). I didn't acknowledge anyone trying to start shit I just blocked them, but one thing irked me that I want to point out, (without giving them any attention), because it's super hypocritical and I hope others can know to Not Do This, and it applies to ALL situations where opinions are involved; not just ships, and not just fandoms.

After a lengthy rant, they asked me if I could be a "decent person" and see their perspective now, or if I'd be "[insert insulting title]" and still think their ship is gross.

First off, being a decent person doesn't mean automatically agreeing with someone just because they used more words than you and their opinion is different than yours. No one should think this way. (Me being a decent person, in this instance, was blocking them, instead of blasting them into the sun like I wanted to do.) I don't have to have the same perspectives as you to be decent with you, and vice versa. Don't ever confuse agreeance with decency, nor submission with morality. That's... Really fucking bad, for many obvious reasons.

Secondly, I could be able to see all of your perspectives, and still disagree with how you put your perspectives into an opinion. I could 100% understand what you're saying, and still disagree with your opinion. And that is okay. That doesn't make either one of us lesser or superior.

I didn't ask the question because I thought my own opinion could be swayed. I asked it because I was genuinely confused, and wanted an explanation to better understand. And it's okay to do that! You're supposed to ask questions when you don't understand things. And it's okay if you still don't change your opinion, even after the question is answered! I'm less confused now, but my opinion stays the same. That's all I needed.

I'm being purposefully vague on the subject because it doesn't matter. I don't want anyone to be thinking this way when it comes to someone else's opinions, and I especially don't want anyone to be made to feel inferior because their opinions are different, even after listening to someone's side. If all it took to change someone's opinions was simply talking about it, we'd be abhorrently homogenous, and extremely shallow minded. The same way you can enjoy a fictional character who's actions you disagree with/don't support irl, you can listen to someone else's perspectives, and still disagree with them.

There’s something so hilarious to me when I think about “there’s only one bed” trope with daemond because I can’t think of a scenario for it they’re literal princes who have whole castles yet daemon is cunning enough to make it work somehow and I trust him with that

I can see them traveling in carriages and a storm breaks, and conveniently they have to stop somewhere for the night. There aren't many places to sleep and they end up in the best possible place (which is still way below their standards). Daemon, such a kind and sacrificial soul, offers to share with Aemond since women and children (and Viserys the Corpse) are the priority for a warm bed.

Or sharing a tent, hm? Aegon shares with them but passes out because he's drunk. He might recall something strange going on in the morning but. . . impossible, he must have been too drunk, time to lay off the wine.

What about Aemond arriving at Dragonstone (visiting, bringing a message from his mother, idc), and ending up staying the night, and Daemon is a little shit so he's like we have no free beds so you'll have to share with me. Aemond takes it as an insult and a sort of wicked powerplay but he has to stay so he ends up sitting in the armchair next to the fireplace, determined to just sit there all night, until uncle daddy entices him to join him on the bed.

Or a Fix-It!AU where the family makes up before the dance and Aemond joins Daemon on some battle campaign and they just have to share, princes or not, there are too many men on the battlefield and all need rest.

OR a disaster - Daemon causes some sort of bug infestation or some other weird shit so that there are not many beds left even if the castle is HUGE. He offers to share with Aemond cuz Aegon and Aemond would kill each other if forced onto one bed. Alicent shares with Haelena.

Seeing that Feinstein finally kicked the bucket, and, her accomplishments aside, I have to agree with the sentiment I'm seeing around.

"Why was a 90 yr old still in Congress?" I legit can't think of a time when she wasn't a congresswoman.

(I just checked, and I see why -- she's literally been a senator almost my entire life, since 1992. I was born in 1988.)

Seriously, that right there is why we honestly need either age limits or term limits, or both. (I'm personally in favor of term limits so that we can stop getting career politicians that are increasingly obviously only in it for the paycheck...)

I saw a take, however, that said that term limits would only "make things worse" as it'd lead to more aggressive lobbying and less getting done (because they'd only have limited time to get motions passed, ie during their term). I say two things to that:

Presidents only have limited terms, and they somehow manage to get shit done (or undone...), so... I'm failing to see the point.

If you're worried about lobbying, then maybe we should, I don't know, finally deal with the lobbying problem? I suggest flaying them, but I'm sure someone more civilized than myself has a better approach.

It just seems like the failings in our "great and wonderful system" keep becoming more and more obvious as time goes on. I wish people would stop going "but this is how it's always been!" and start going "yeah, maybe there's a problem, and we should try fixing it."
