Harry blinked and looked around. It was night and he was alone. “Hermione!?”
“She’s not here, Mr. Potter.”
Harry spun around, wand in hand, and raised high. His heart nearly leaped into his throat at the sight of Dumbledore. Not the Dumbledore he knew, nor the one he saw between life and death, but oddly enough the one diary-Riddle had shown him in second year. Alarm bells went off in Harry’s head.
“You need not worry, though,” Dumbledore continued in his aged, world-weary voice, “she is perfectly safe.”
Harry narrowed his eyes. “Who are you? Show me Hermione.”
Despite the hard edge in the younger wizard’s eyes, Dumbledore did not draw his wand. Hermione had assured him that Harry would ask many questions and probably not hex first.
“I am Albus Dumbledore, Deputy Headmaster of Hogwarts and Transfiguration teacher here.” At Harry’s furrowed brow, Dumbledore explained, “It is 1944, Mr. Potter.”
Harry’s wand dropped a bit. “But… how?”
“The school. Hermione told me there were damages to it in your time. Hogwarts was built on ley lines and other old magics. Built from old magics. When the school was damaged it caused waves of old magic to spread across the grounds and you were both hit by it. Hermione arrived three months ago on a separate pagan holiday.”
Harry had fully dropped his wand by this point, though he did not yet look very trusting of the old wizard.
“And why is Hermione not here to tell me this?”
Dumbledore smiled. “Hermione, as ever, has everything figured out. Apparently, we have some business to attend to regarding a very powerful wand.”
From his robes, Dumbledore drew the Elder wand. Harry sucked in a breath between his teeth.
“Since we are both, technically, its masters, we must duel and leave it with only one. Hermione and I have discussed it at length, and to do it in the privacy of where we are now is best.”
Harry shook his head. “You can have it. We can’t change time.”
Dumbledore gave Harry a sad shake of his head. “I regret to inform you, Mr. Potter, but now that you’ve appeared here your time has gone. Any future yourself and Hermione come from has vanished. You both are all that remains of that timeline.”
Harry grimaced. He looked around the darkened hallway, lit only by small torches along the far wall and the moonlight.
“Just disarm me.”
He didn’t want the Elder wand. He never had.
“You know, as well as I do, that that is not the way this wand works, Mr. Potter.”
Dumbledore watched Harry with curious blue eyes. He knew, despite Hermione’s constant talking about the young man’s arrival, very little of the man himself. Hermione was notoriously tightlipped about her timeline and those she knew from it or what she knew. Dumbledore didn’t know what to make of the young man before him, world-weary at seventeen.
Harry sighed and shook his head. “Fine, but I have one request. When this is all over, no matter who wins, you keep the wand.”
Dumbledore slowly nodded. His mind was racing. Harry Potter was nothing like what he had expected. At the old wizard’s acceptance, Harry sighed with relief.
Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter stood across the darkened hall from one another, wands at the ready. They held one another’s eye for a long moment before-
-The first spell was shot.

neocities guide - why you should build your own html website
do you miss the charm of the 90s/00s web where sites had actual personality instead of the same minimalistic theme? are you feeling drained by social media and the constant corporate monopoly of your data and time? do you want to be excited about the internet again?
try neocities!!
what is neocities?
neocities is a free hosting website that lets you build your own html website from scratch, with total creative control. in their own words:
"we are tired of living in an online world where people are isolated from each other on boring, generic social networks that don't let us truly express ourselves. it's time we took back our personalities from these sterilized, lifeless, monetized, data mined, monitored addiction machines and let our creativity flourish again."
why should I make my own website?
web3 has been overtaken by capitalism & conformity. websites that once were meant to be fun online social spaces now exist solely to steal your data and sell you things. it sucks!!
building a personal site is a great way to express yourself and take control of your online experience.
what would I even put on a website?
the best part about making your own site is that you can do literally whatever the hell you want! focus on a specific subject or make it a wild collection of all your interests. share your art! make a shrine for one of your interests! post a picture of every bird you see when you step outside! make a collection of your favorite blinkies! the world is your oyster !!
