i beg of you, please make nice!sweet!reader hit jason in the head with a lunch tray to defend eddie. then he immediately falls in love with her
I'm ngl this made me laugh out loud when I first read it but I love the idea so much that I couldn't not write it.
Word Count: 1668
A/n: this is not proof read at all so please forgive me if there are any mistakes
The relative calm of the cafeteria didn’t last for long, especially not when Jason and the rest of the basketball squad entered the room and took their seats at their usual table that was pretty much in the centre of the room considering they thought they were school royalty which was ridiculous, or so she thought anyway. Rolling her eyes and focusing back on her food as she listened into the conversation a few of her friends were having about a party at the weekend, one they had asked her to come too but she had refused as parties were not her thing. The loud music she could deal with but the drunk rowdy teenagers on the other hand, well she’d rather stick pins in her eyes than deal with them, no she much preferred to stay at home for a movie marathon or snuggled up under a soft blanket with a new book, both sounded like a better idea to her.
Her focus did not stay on the conversation for long, not when the familiar voice of Eddie Munson rang out through the cafeteria. A small smile worked its way onto her face as she turned to watch him, strutting along the table he and his friends sat at, his arms wildly waving about by his head as he passionately ranted away as his friends laughed along with him. To her, Eddie seemed similar to Jason in the sense that he was confident, loud and brash about things he cared about but there was one main difference. Jason was the cocky, self centred kind, believing that he is better than everyone else because his parents are rich and well-to-do, that he can do no wrong because he’s the captain of the basketball team. Whereas Eddie is confident in himself, he knows who he is, what he likes and doesn’t care if he fits in as long as he’s true to himself. It’s brave and she admires him for it which she thinks is what compels her to do what she does next.
Eddie’s speech doesn’t last long before Jason and a couple of his friends, who she hasn’t bothered to learn the names of, waltz up to him where he’s still standing on the table, now staring down at them with a challenging grin. “What can I do for you boys” he asks, innocently as if he doesn’t know that they’ve only come over to cause trouble and be rude to his friends.
“You know damn well what you’re doing freak” Jason spits and she watches as his hold body straightens as he looks up to Eddie, clearly not liking the power the higher ground gives him. “No one wants to sit here and listen to the shit you’re sprouting” he says matter of factly and the two boys beside him nod in agreement.
That’s all she can stand to listen to, she hates when anyone puts anybody else down but Jason and everybody else in this town for that matter seem to have a personal vendetta against Eddie just because of who his father is and because he refuses to fit in. It also annoys her that no one ever stands up for Eddie, not that he can’t handle himself but it’s always good to know you’ve got someone ready to fight your corner, to know you’re not alone in the world.
Anger bubbling inside her, she grabs her bag and pushes away from the table taking her tray of half eaten lunch with her as she ignores the questions from her friends about her sudden disappearance. She makes her way through the cafeteria without drawing anyones attention, being unnoticeable has its perks sometimes but she also has a feeling that it has something to do with the scene between Eddie and Jason that has captured everyone's attention. As she passes the bin, she dumps the contents of her tray into it but instead of heading in the direction to put her tray back, she heads towards the commotion.
Again no-one notices her approaching them or when she lifts the tray above her head but the resounding crack of it coming down on the top of Jason’s head and his following groan of pain as it hits is hard to miss. Jason’s two friends make no move towards her as she suspected they would but Jason is quick to whip around, arm already raised to throw a punch to the unknown person behind him and she braces herself for its impact. Only it never comes, instead Jaon stands frozen before her looking rather bewildered, it seems that Jason’s parents did at least teach him one good thing that it’s never okay to hit a woman which she’s thankful for as she doesn’t think the adrenaline coursing through her would be enough to numb the pain from a hit from him.
Although there is enough adrenaline left for her to curse Jason out, “You are a fucking asshole” she spits, proding a finger against his chest as if it would enhance her point, “You are insufferable, a jerk and-and” she faulters for more insults as the braveness she felt before wanes as she’s suddenly aware of all eyes in the cafeteria now being on her. She crosses her arms over her chest and takes a step back from him, “and for your information some of us enjoy listening to his shit” she finishes with a curt nod before turning and briskly walking out of there to find somewhere to hide as the reality of what she’s just done hits her.
On her way out what she doesn’t see is the look of awe on Eddie’s face as he watches her leave and he makes up his mind within seconds as he forgets about Jason. He reaches for his lunch box, flashing a grin to the just as bewildered members of Hellfire club before he practically launches himself from the table. He manages the jump pretty well, only landing with a small stumble as he rushes after her.
She’s halfway down the hall when she hears the pounding of feet behind her and she increases her pace thinking that it’s Jason coming for her but the mass of denim, leather and wild hair that appears beside her is answer enough that it’s not Jason. She actually wishes it was Jason for a second when she realises that it’s Eddie because she has no idea how the boy is going to react to what she just did.
“I cannot believe you just did that,so fucking metal honestly” he says as he grabs her arm to stop her from walking any further, “who knew that the shy, quiet, pretty girl would defend the school freak” he adds with a huge grin on his face.
“Don’t call yourself that” she frowns, this was not what she expected at all and she completely skips over the fact he called her pretty because if she focuses on it too much she’s going to do something she’ll probably regret - like kiss him. “You’re not a freak, you’re different sure but there's more to you than that prick in there” she states, placing her hand on top of his that’s still holding onto her arm as she nods her head back towards the cafeteria.
Eddie looks at her suspiciously as she talks, sure he practically fell in love with her the moment the empty tray came crashing down on Jason’s head but even still the kindness she bestows upon him seems too good to be true and he’s not at all sure if this is just some practical joke that Jason somehow orchestrated.
“Ok I’ve made this weird I’ll just go” she sighs as Eddie’s silence seems to stretch on but the moment she tries to walk away his grip on her arm tightens, not enough to be painful but enough to keep her in place. Now it’s her turn to be confused, “Eddie what-” is all she gets out before she’s interrupted.
“You’re serious? You’re not playing games with me?” he asks and it makes her sad that he would even think that she would do that to him, that anyone would do that to him. She shakes her head in response to tell him that no she’s not playing games with him and he relaxes, a smile lighting up his face, “and you like listening to the shit I say?” he asks, eyebrow raised teasingly and she feels her cheeks heat as he repeats back her confession she made earlier but she nods in conformation which only seems to make him happier. “What would you say to grabbing a milkshake at the diner with me after school then I can talk your ears off with nonsense?”
He phrases it like a question but it also seems like a joke to her as well and she’s unsure when she answers, wondering whether or not he’ll just laugh in her face and tell her it was all a joke, that he wouldn’t dream of going on a date with someone like her. Wait, was she getting ahead of herself? Was this a date? She didn’t know but the thought was appealing to her, a date with Eddie Munson, that was something her friends wouldn’t believe if she told them.
When she nodded her consent, Eddie’s already wide smile seemed to get even larger and it was infectious as she felt her own lips pulling up as he nodded almost as if he was surprised she said yes. “Good, great, I mean I’ll meet you out front after last class” he corrected himself as he bounced on the spot just as the bell rang and fellow classmates started filtering out of the cafeteria around them.
“Out front after last class” she repeated in understanding, a giddy feeling bubbling up inside her as she was swept away from him in the crowd of students with a promise of an evening spent getting to know Eddie Munson.

Spoiler warning!
Not gonna lie, at first I was cringing a bit at Lucifer. I was expecting him the have, like, grace and baddie energy. but he's talking to himself pretending to show off rubber ducks to a crowd.
And of all the potential dynamics he and Al could have had, competing father figures was NOT on my mind at all dude. Al? Dad?
Tumblr media
But, I watched these last two episodes a couple (okay maybe several) times over and, it's really growing on me. It was definitely the predeveloped impressions getting in the way of really enjoying these characters. Even the irks I had about Alastor aren't really irks anymore, especially with "Dad beat Dad having much better animation and a banger number for Al (seriously wtf he's horrific in this episode)--
Tumblr media
"Could you butt out of my song?"
"Your song? I started this!"
"I'm singing it, I'll finish it!"
Before, I was seeing it as how well they pull off my (and arguably the long simmering fandom's) idea of these characters instead of how well the characters as they actually are are told. So many people thought this show would be a super serious deep dive on Christianity and commentary on religion itself. But at this point, it really feels like Heavan and Hell are metaphores. They focus a lot more on personal issues like relationships, coping mechanisms, flaws like nievety, displaced senses of self worth, etc.
Charlie's idea of what "gets people into heaven" is naive and brochure-like. Adam gave a literal list of three items that seemed overly simplistic (and turned out to be wrong).
But at least they had some idea about it. The higher angels themselves had no clue whatsoever, their only concern was preserving the status quo. And even when things are called to question they fall back to old ways just bc they're scared to change anything. Sera didn't have any malice toward Hell, she just doesn't want to make things worse, having Angels fall, have Hell attack Earth or Heaven, have more evil spread, by changing things.
Getting a better idea of what all of this is about makes it so much easier to appreciate things I initially was put off by. It just has a context that it fits into now.
Lucifer being this disillusioned depressed dork with "yeaaaah, No." energy fits into what we've seen of heavenly culture (uncanny innocence, annoying teen pop-culture energy, being perfectionist yet blind to their own flaws)
And The "Hell's Great Dad" song really broke the ice, especially when Mimzy busted in singing ITS MEEEEEEE-- like
Tumblr media
Love her. I wasn't expecting to see Mimzy AT ALL since she was removed from the main cast. And after seeing people talk about her and how they were wondering about her, it definitely felt like popping in the way she did was a response to that. Even I was wondering bc you don't just drop a former love interest for a character like Alastor, but still have them show up in the pilot-- I wanted to see Mimzy lol.
like literally:
"It's MEEE, It's MEEE,
I know you were all waiting for MEEEE!
I'm Here, what a GAAAS,
Took a while but I'm here at LAAST"
Like, im sorry but I felt like she was pointing at me personally, not the other characters, and that was hilarious.
It's so random but doesn't feel out of place at all somehow. The tensions were already super high, so a random screaming woman busting in with even higher energy is like-- wtf?? :'D??
She was a blast the entire time tho, and actually tied into the reoccurring theme of only reaching out to someone so they can do something for you.
It also definitely pinched a side of Alastor, irritating that he does apparently NEED to be there, there's some obligation he actually has to the hotel, or at the very least some stakes to not holding things together, not bc he defended the hotel but bc he specifically says "I can't have that here" , he also doesn't refute the claims Mimzy makes about him. Al clearly adores her and isn't surprised by her antics at all yet still tells her to leave. With the mention of Alastor's "leash" in the same episode BC of Mimzy was just such a great way to use her character. A fun entrance, thematic relevance, and a great plot device to reveal more about Alastor's situation and motives.
Like I said, at first the food tasted cold. I was thinking to myself "Eh, nothing really that crazy ig" but the more I watch the episodes and get over whatever my expectations were, the more I enjoy what's there.
Like, at first I was thinking, "Oh no Lucy's another akward dork, a normie, a loooooserr" (not that being an akward dork or a normie is bad but those were the vibes I was giving off, I'm sorry)
But I keep watching "Hell's Greatest Dad" and NOW it's like
Tumblr media
LOOK AT HIM< LOOK AT HIM GO
Like, he's fugghing adorable with the "WAP BAP BOOM"
Tumblr media
the puppets and the circus imagery, and just the innocent unmalicious enthusiasm. He's stumbling around over barely knowing his daughter and is now sprinting to make up for being so absent-- and even that absence is implied to be due to chronic depression and pining, missing heaven and having to live in hell forever, not only being the one who supposedly created it by accident, but tried and failed to fix it, even having his own theme park ripped off by a deadly Sin. The show calls it out bluntly, but despite his cheery tone and, yeaaah, no, yeaaah, no" attitude, they did a great job showing that his depression manifested in detachment and disinterest. It sucks for the people it effects but it also sucks to be the one who dropped the ropes in your relationships.
So seeing him brjghtenup and glow over just helping his Charlie put her hotel together was great. He feels useful and wanted again. And imo it's a double edge sword as well if Lucy feels like he has to be useful to be a decent dad.
So, idk. I guess I do want to see how he handles trying to be in Charlie's life again, especially since, at this point Alastor knows and has supported her more than he ever has-- despite the rough beginning and the mockery. (Also Lilith's face being faded out was sus af)
I'm convinced that in Al's case it's definitely not from a genuine place, at least, we still have no reason to believe it is. He was glaring at Lucy as soon as he walked in, and the nearly every comment on how great his relationship with Charlie is was also a jab to piss off Lucy instead of a genuine expression.
A performance, in short.
Still, the fact that someone who's only just met Charlie has a better relationship with her than her father has got to suck to realize if you're the father.
Also-- the scene at the club-- I was pretty mixed about it, like, doing drugs, itself isn't bad-- it can be unhealthy and it can put others at risk if you're resigning your cognizance and self control for the sake of coping with stress-- so it can very easily enable bad things, especially if you become addicted, so,imo is pretty wreckless and definitely a vice. But it doesn't make you a bad person.
But then again angels also seem to think premarital sex and promiscuity is bad too. (Promiscuity puts you at risk for disease, and like drugs can be driven by vices, but, again, the thing itself isn't bad and can still be a healthy practice when it comes from a healthy place)
I'm genuinely proud of Angel for actually growing though, seeing him take care of Nifty and protect her from Val got me on the "Fuck em up" energy. It's always great to see a group of friends watching out for eachother when they know there's a danger to what they're doing-- ESPECIALLY when one of them is new to it all. That's why if you ARE going to do drugs or drink or whatever, definitely don't do it alone or without someone you trust with your safety.
And also never feel like you have to do those things to maintain relationships, some people feel like it would be an insult to imply they dont trust someone or just for being disinterested in their offer. And, frankly there are people who will prey on that.
That was just a great scene. It had some flaws, but was still great.
Also--
PENTIOUS
I HATE
BROTHERMAN MADE ALL THE MISTAKES.
"Bc I'M HAVING SEX WITH EVERY--"
THATS NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY YOU FUCK
Tumblr media
Also, not gonna lie but Sera's got me like
Tumblr media
Its been a while since I've been down bad for a femenine character.
She is beauty, she is grace~

Law and order svu is very much like ace attorney in the sense that every single character has to be accused of some crime at some point + face charges and go to trial + every few episodes the case/crime of the day just happens to be uncomfortably personal for a member of the main cast + both pieces of media portray tense relationships between lawyers (admittedly aa's focus on lawyers is way more intense than lao's). But also law and order svu is very much unlike ace attorney in the sense that in aa defense attorneys are the heroic carriers of justice who save innocents from the jaws of a corrupt justice system perpetuated by the equally corrupt prosecutors, while in law and order defense attorneys get portrayed as greedy assholes who are willing to do whatever they need to keep their clients (who are more often than not rapists and murderers) out of jail. Prosecutors in lao are of course portrayed as the Good Guys who fight for the victims and true justice. These two pieces of media are quite different in background, target audience, artistic direction etc etc etc but showcase an interesting dichotomy when it comes to portrayals of the legal system in pop culture. Another popular series that has a lawyer as its protagonist is of course, Better Call Saul but i haven't watched that so i don't have much to say about it (although i know that Saul falls under the sleazy "will do anything to get his client declared innocent" defense attorney category). Now of course the law, being a lawyer, being a defense attorney/prosecutor is in and of itself a neutral thing and this polarization portrayed in your average law related piece of media is needlessly dramatic. At the end of the day most lawyers are just doing their job wether they defend perfectly innocent clients, make sure that guilty parties get the representation they deserve in a court of law, or wether they prove guilty people guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and make sure that the victims and their families get the justice they seek. I forgot where i was going with this post.

You make really weird arguments. Especially when you’re supposed to be defending your husband you apparently love?
‘I would never disregard you’ = You literally did by forgetting one of your husband’s main phobias for birds? Nobody is asking you to sit in your therapy session and only think about your husband but the fact it seemingly slipped your mind that you share a space often with someone who is terrified of birds while getting a bird is so? not great?
‘It’s a wonder I’m this empathetic’ = Like that other anon said, you didn’t show any care to Vic sending you images of the same species your support pokémon is getting killed by a joltik? You just comment on how ‘cute the tik is’? I get you’re trying not to feed into her or something, but isn’t she the whole reason you’re getting this support pokémon? to protect you?
How are you both somehow traumatized beyond belief of what happened but also show absolutely no care to her when she’s literally sending you gorey photos? Makes no sense. There’s no compromise in your relationship, you just got a bird and amy now has to deal with you having a bird. What a beautiful marriage.
[Btz. Ok, now that Dave is asleep, I can answer this one. She isn't even supposed to see these types of things. Concidering how bad her mental state is at the moment. She is barely thinking straight...]
[Dave messed up. She is not innocent in this, and she knows it. But it also isn't entirely her fault.]
[Bellamy is strange, especially for a human. They never talk about their fears or worries or anything unless pressed heavily on the topic. To the outside, Bellamys Ornithophobia is a bigger part of their life than it actually is.]
[Dave has memory problems, mostly recalling events and facts. She can be a bit absent-minded at times, too. She wasn't lying about it slipping her mind, I know, I heard the entire thing. She was overjoyed that she got something that is just her own, not shared or in service to anyone else, that she didn't take into account anyone else. She should have, but she didnt.]
[About the empathy, Dave was greatly affected by the photo. But she isn't going to show it in front of the person trying to get a reaction out of her. Saying the tik is cute was her trying to find something other than the death to focus on. She didn't want to show care because that's what Gonzap wanted her to do, to freak out. You can't say what someone is truly feeling from a few Rotumblr posts.]
[Yes, this was a bad decision. But it's done. You dont get to tell anyone how to conduct their marriage. Some days, I wish Dave stayed isolated from humans, but here we are.]
[P.S. Implying Dave doesnt love Bellamy and vice versa is just factually wrong. You are an idiot.]

I have Covid so I'm doing a Mr. Sunshine rewatch because I can't focus on anything else and after finishing ep 1 it's already making me S C R E A M with how good it is.
Everyone is depicted with such nuance, and knowing that the main characters will actually be the children unwillingly carrying on the legacy of what happens in this episode makes me note things that I didn't the first time around.
They have all, in one way or another, been failed by the unjustness of their country and their environment, and the show explores the various ways of trying to deal with it and to make sense of what's going on around them in light of that, and knowing this makes even the mean-spirited, near-cartoonish anger and villainy of the antagonist actually make sense: "My country failed me, it never did anything for me, so I will tear it apart and sell it piece by piece to forcibly take what it never gave me" actually seems almost like a reasonable reaction in light of all the death, injustice, and general callousness going on. But then on the other hand you have the soldiers who pretty much know that they've been sacrificed and left to die by the leadership, but also know that no matter the unjustness of it all there's nobody else standing between them and the innocent civilians.
Basically I really like this show because it doesn't shy away from the shittiness of the situation and the reasonable anger - the victims of colonization are far from perfect and idealized, their social structure was cruel to large swaths of its population - while also having a core of "fighting for what's right is worthwhile even when it's hopeless because there are innocent people worth defending", and "people don't have to be perfect blameless victims to not deserve oppression/colonization" and I like this a lot.

I just don't get why people are ganging up on you when I look on your blog I don't really see that your a hunger games (based) blog. You seem to be like whatever you want (not focused on thg) but I don't know the whole situation, there have been everthorne shippers who act innocent but only want to spread drama and hate. (Same with everlark shippers) but I do hate when people question Susanne for how she wrote the book. Because it makes sense for her to pick peeta. (Just in my opinion and experience) It's never good to date someone who's exactly like you or who matches the same anger as you because nothing gets done and you always fight. (From my experience) but if you enjoy everthorne you have every right to. And neither side should be spreading this much hate.
I've been posting a lot about THG lately, but yeah, it's not my main focus. I'll post when I have thoughts/content to share, I'm not making a day job of it. I'm sure there's always bad apples on both sides, but so far I've received mostly negativity from the everlark side and nothing from support from the few that do like Everthorne. I can say at the very least that neither me nor those people like to spread drama or hate. So.
I'm sorry to disagree, but I criticize Suzanne Collins heavily for certain things in her writing. I don't like the dichotomy of good versus evil she tries to do using Gale and Peeta. I see racist undertones in it. She wrote the book through the lense of a military Catholic white woman writing a commentary on war. Such a perspective will always be flawed.   And on the subject of pairing off Katniss with the most “suitable” partner, you people always use Peeta’s “peace” to defend Peeta/Katniss, which a great part of the sum total of my problems. It’s such a disservice and a skewed moral lesson to try and say “you can only have peace with those people who don’t fight a war to gain a better life.” Also “neither side should be spreadiing hate?” It’s the everlark side sending me death threats, which is what qualifies as hate, not me posting crit on Peeta. Get over yourself.

Fates: was the story as bad as people say?: a response (Conquest 3/3)
Link to the original post here, link to playthrough with english patch here, link to fateswartable here.
> Corrin, you are literally bringing the war to Hoshido.
That line doesn't exist in the original script:
> Kamui: Yes… There’s nowhere to go but forward.
> Even if we must fight.
Also, Odo, you know what they meant by that, even in the localized script; they're convinced that winning the war for Nohr will bring peace to the land. This isn't in any way a contradiction, and you know that.
> Azura, this is your plan. This is on you.
When did she imply it wasn't on her? She just said that they're doing this for good reasons and can't afford to falter now; for the second time, what is this supposed to be a gotcha for, exactly?
> I feel like I should also point out that this "higher purpose" isn't to defeat Garon, but to convince the Nohrian siblings he has to be taken out. Innocents being mercilessly cut down in a senseless war of aggression is not enough to convince them.
They've been fighting in the war for years, if not decades; this is far from new to the Nohrian siblings, and if fighting in a war was enough to make them feel like betraying Garon, they'd have done so (and been executed for trying) years ago.
> Weren't thousands of Hoshidans too much for them earlier, but now they can take an impregnable fort? Corrin's group has yet to meet up with any Nohr reinforcements on screen.
Those same thousands of Hoshidans are currently busy defending the front entrance; the fort is almost certainly short-staffed at this point, if we assume that the Hoshidan army doesn't have an infinite amount of soldiers, which sounds reasonable to me.
> That is what they focus on during a war of aggression and in a battle facing off against their supposed sister's retainer. At this point I'm not even sure Corrin is aware of what they're doing or why.
Hana just went off on a psycho rant about how much she wants to kill Corrin and how she'll never forgive them, while also crying during that same speech; Corrin being confused at this supposed contradiction and wanting to understand why she's crying is a perfectly reasonable reaction.
> Sakura and Yukimura rightly protest, but then the chapter ends and it's time for the next chapter, which starts by informing us that Sakura, her retainers and Yukimura are alive and kept as hostages in their army.
Sakura and Yukimura were the only ones of the four that were kept alive:
> Kamui: We could’ve helped Yukimura and her two retainers if they were prisoners of war, but…
> Have you met with Sakura?
Chapter 25:
> Kamui: Sakura and Yukimura were kept alive properly as prisoners of war.
Corrin never states that Hana and Tsubaki were spared. It even makes sense as to why Sakura and Yukimura were left alive; Sakura's a member of royalty and Yukimura's Hoshido's main strategist. Being able to keep people like that hostage could come in handy, whereas Hana and Tsubaki aren't anyone of real importance.
I don't know what Corrin's talking about when he says that Yukimura wasn't taken as a prisoner of war though; he says the exact opposite just a few chapters later. I don't know if this was the translators's fault (the lines are practically identical between both the fateswartable and english patch translations) or the writers's, but if anyone knows Japanese and wants to double-check, fateswartable has the original kanji on the blog.
> Apparently, despite Garon making a big show of not allowing even his children to disobey, the game explains that Iago and Hans are afraid of Xander which is how he managed to convince them to leave the named characters alive, but...what happened to Garon and his orders?
Xander never ordered that. I looked through both of my sources for where that's stated, and it's nowhere to be found in either, leading me to assume that this was a localization change.
> Apparently some people now target Corrin and the Nohrian royal siblings for wanting to keep Sakura alive.
No they don't:
> Aqua: …You lead an army with Marx and Leon, while King Garon leads a force with Ganz and Macbeth.
> Your ways of suppressing Hoshido are vastly different…
> In this state, it wouldn’t be strange if there was internal strife.
> With Garon’s convenient early arrival, we run the risk of losing his trust and the trust of our allies.
> We have to get him on that throne… we cannot afford not to.
She's just telling Corrin to hurry it up before they lose Garon's trust; nowhere is it mentioned that people are straight-up rebelling and trying to kill Corrin and Azura just because they took Sakura hostage.
> He's also often talking about peace as if Hoshido is just a pesky little roadblock which is throwing a fit over being invaded.
Setting aside that he never mentions peace in the jp script, yeah, he doesn't actively see Hoshido as much more than a roadblock to Garon's recovery at this point; he's been at war with it for years, and thinking of it as if it's innocent won't do much to help his already troubled conscience.
> This is a major support character who the game tries very hard to portray as a sympathetic, older brother figure, despite him being lacking in morals and easily manipulated.
Every FE character is lacking in morals. Good people don't go around killing hundreds if not thousands of people, only to be perfectly mentally stable and be willing to have (possibly humorous) unrelated discussions with their fellow mass-murderers afterwards. If we try to apply any sort of real-life morality into the Fire Emblem verse, there are very few characters in the franchise that wouldn't be classified as sociopaths.
Also, where did the easily manipulated come from, exactly? I guess you could argue that Xander manipulates himself by making himself believe that Garon will go back to being a good guy if he gets what he wants and that, as such, he should serve him, but that particular manipulation vanishes as soon as he gets rid of Garon; he never shows himself to be easily manipulated by other people elsewhere in the game.
Lastly, even if i give you that Xander isn't the best person morally, what does that have to do with him being sympathetic? You can think someone is morally abhorrent while still sympathizing with them.
> At this point, Corrin has led the invasion personally and engaged the Hoshidan forces multiple times already. Hinoka says this line even without knowing that Sakura is still alive. She has no reason to think Corrin is on the Hoshidan side, as she puts it, and should be furious with the protagonist.
Corrin just refused to kill her or her soldiers, in defiance of Garon's orders since he just told her that she needs to hide, meaning Nohr wanted her dead. Her trying to convince Corrin to rejoin Hoshido isn't that far-fetched given that they're clearly in disagreement with Nohr high command.
More importantly, you underestimate how much Hinoka cares about Corrin. She was clearly upset at them when she thought that they were only interested in taking the castle and blew off her attempts to appeal to their sentimentality, and being shown that they do still care about her and want to minimize casualties if possible was what made her go back to liking them; someone can still care about someone who's done bad things to them, especially if they find out that it was done for better reasons than what they originally thought.
> Please note that Hinoka blushes here. She thinks Takumi is dead, that Ryoma will fall, and her people and country are dying all around her, and she's blushing because Camilla flirted with her. This causes a tremendous tonal whiplash and ruins whatever tension the scene was going for.
Moments of levity are allowed in darker stories, and it's not like it doesn't make sense in-universe. This just means that Hinoka's momentarily embarassed about receiving compliments from Camilla, not that she's forgotten about the war raging on around her. Whether or not it causes tonal whisplash is subjective, which would be fine were it not for a certain statement in the last post, but i'll get there later.
> Hinoka at this point is more concerned with Ryoma hurting Corrin than the other way around, despite the latter bringing an army into Ryoma's castle with the intention of conquering it in Nohr's name.
The original script is more ambiguous than this:
> Hinoka: Big brother Ryouma...
> Please, Kamui...
This can just as easily be interpreted as her asking Corrin not to kill Ryoma as it can be the other way around. Again, these posts would have benefitted immensely from comparing the jp script to the localized one before making claims about what characters said or did.
> Taking a break from just describing the events of the chapters, I've got to ask something: why are the Hoshidan royals spread out like this? You face them one at a time for four chapters in a row, and they're just waiting for you to come to them.
It's easier and safer to beat back an invading army when fighting from well-fortified positions instead of trying to engage with them at random.
> Even if Hoshido is fighting an uphill battle, why is their strongest warrior, Ryoma, and his elite ninja retainers, just sitting in a castle and waiting to be challenged?
The king is a pretty important player in a war; as much as i wish more time was spent explaining why and how Ryoma went from being a brash and hot-headed man who went behind enemy lines just at the chance of getting Corrin back, to wisely and patiently waiting at the best defended part of Hoshido as it's last line of defense, lest the Hoshidan army's morale drop if it's leader is taken out, it still makes sense logistically.
> This, and the Yato lighting up for a moment, is all it takes to convince Ryoma that Corrin is on their side, but keep in mind Corrin has personally led armies to take down a fort, a wall leading to the capital, and the forces outside the castle. They have been an active leader in this war and made it easier for Nohr to invade, not more difficult. Corrin's intentions, no matter how noble, should not excuse their actions thus far in Ryoma's eyes.
They've also spared Ryoma, told him to kill them on the spot if he thought they were lying about having spared Hinoka and Sakura, pleaded to his sentimentality by pulling the sibling card, and most importantly of all, the Yato, the sword that only chooses someone who'll save the world one day, is not only still serving Corrin, but has shown signs to Ryoma's face of evolving like the Rainbow Sage said it would when the time was right; i'm iffy on how Ryoma knows about that aspect of the Yato, but the Rainbow Sage could have just told him so when he visited, especially since he can see the future and should know that Ryoma would need some convincing later on. I'm perfectly fine with him believing Corrin's words given all that context.
> Corrin has also stood idly by while innocents were murdered, and regardless of what you think of their ability to do something about it, it rings hollow to hear Corrin be so confident over what they're doing is right. Corrin has done nothing to earn this confidence and there's still no guarantee Garon will sit on the throne or that it'll work.
The bolded line doesn't exist in the jp script, which i assume is what Odo is referring to with this point.
Even if we disregard that and focus on the localization, i'm still fine with Corrin being so confident; the ending of Chapter 19 and pretty much all of Chapter 20 were dedicated to having Corrin convince themselves that what they're doing will have been worth it in the end thanks to their being reassured by Azura, when she tells them not to give up on their chosen path halfway through lest everything they've sacrificed be for naught, and by Fuga, when he tells them that the Yato didn't make any mistakes when it chose them and that they're still destined to save the world. I don't much like the tone of the added line myself, but looking at it objectively, it's just a continuation of Corrin's previous character arc.
> I want to reiterate that: Ryoma is proud that Corrin is conquering Hoshido. What exactly did Ryoma expect of Corrin at this point? With the Nohrians having won the war and the crown prince dead, what part of the plan - which he didn't know about - made him proud of Corrin?
I don't know if this line was added in by the localization or what, but Azura never states that Ryoma was proud of Corrin, in either of the translations i've seen; she just says that he died with a smile and entrusted the future of Hoshido to them. He's not happy that they're conquering Hoshido, he's happy because he believed that Corrin had some sort of plan to fix things after the fact in his dying moments. I already explained why it makes sense for Ryoma to trust Corrin two paragraphs ago.
> Iago tries to attack Corrin from behind because they're a traitor for letting Hinoka live, and he's somehow surprised that the other Nohrian siblings actually defend Corrin.
He's surprised that the Nohrian siblings would commit blatant treason against Garon by attacking and killing his personal strategist, a high-ranking general, and large swathes of the Nohrian army when they've been so afraid of disobeying him before. I don't think it's too weird for him to not have predicted that they'd come up with the “oh some Hoshidan reinforcements arrived and killed all those people in a fight, how unlucky for us” excuse to Garon.
> So, Garon is in the other room, but this is when Corrin chooses to order the death of Iago, Hans, and "the king's army" (likely that bloodthirsty half conveniently gathered in one room),
It's never stated that half of the Nohrian army is loyal to Corrin in the jp script, only an undefined and vague amount of it. I presume that the 50-50 part was added in by the localization. Assuming that Azura meant that most of the army was more loyal to Garon than Corrin in that convo, this is a lot less convenient.
> Could I ask what Iago's role in the game was?
To do Garon's bidding for him when he couldn't/wouldn't, thanks to his magical skills (poisoning Elise and somehow convincing Ryoma to use that as an opportunity to ambush Corrin, for example), and to provide more chapters, scenarios and bosses. I'm not going to pretend he has much depth to speak of, but having a character in a story that mostly serves as a reocurring obstacle that the protagonists aim to overcome eventually is a perfectly fine role, and Iago fulfills that well enough.
> The best answer I can think of is that Iago produces filler chapters, and he's there to be hated by the player for being so unfair to Corrin so it'll feel good when he's taken out, but he's got no character or motivation of his own, and all his authority stems from Garon, so he's not one of those bastards worthy of hating; he's just filler. Padding.
He does start killing the Hoshidan civilians that were bad-mouthing the Nohrian army on a whim; even if we were to excuse the rest of his evil deeds throughout the story as obedience to Garon, that's still a pretty evil thing that he did of his own volition.
> Corrin not even trying to prepare their siblings for this, or find some alternate route which would've involved far fewer dead people, reflects very poorly on their judgement.
I don't think there's much of a way to prepare someone for the revelation that their father's been dead for the last decade and a half. Again, i don't see why it's so hard to believe that the Nohrian siblings wouldn't have just blindly believed Corrin's claim when they don't even have any evidence to back it up.
I adressed the “alternate route” point in my previous post; ditto for the upcoming “why didn't Azura show the rest of the siblings the crystal ball?” point. Anyone reading this can go there to see my responses; I'm not going to rehash myself here.
> Keep in mind that this man has on multiple occasions lauded Corrin's leadership skills,
What does being a good leader have to do with the possibility that they're trying to deceive the siblings into betraying Garon by lying about his state? Wouldn't their being good at leadership be a neccessary component for such deception, if only to gain more power and trust in the Nohrian army?
> saw them turn their back on Hoshido in chapter six,
So they didn't intend on betraying Garon as soon as they left Hoshido; what's stopping Xander from assuming that Corrin's idea was made up during the war instead of at the start?
> and was there to kill Iago, Hans, and half the royal army just last chapter.
After Iago tried to kill them for commiting treason and Xander and the rest of the siblings helped Corrin fight them off more because they liked Corrin, didn't like Iago, and could get away with doing that while Garon was in the throne room. Xander literally knows at this point that Corrin's willing to subvert Garon's orders for their own benefit; wouldn't the entirety of Chapter 26 be even more reason for him to believe that Corrin was up to shady shit, and warn them against it due to the fact that they still stand by Garon and wouldn't let them off the hook like they did Iago if it turned out that they just tried to manipulate the siblings into killing their father?
> 1) Xander says that Garon would never have used his strength to attack his own children, but we've repeatedly seen Garon indulge in unnecessary cruelty. Conquest began with Xander overhearing an evil monologue his "father" held about how much he wanted Corrin to suffer. Yes, he's not personally using his own strength to attack his children but he's using his authority as a king for the explicit purpose of making Corrin's life a living hell.
Where did you get the idea that Xander was referring to start of game Garon when he said that? He's pretty clearly talking about the Garon from a long time ago, prior to him going off the deep end, which Xander now knows happened because he'd been possessed; the fact that possessed Garon wanted to make Corrin suffer has nothing to do with Xander's claim that pre-possession Garon would never have done such a thing.
> 2) Xander admits that the war was meaningless but that he fought just hoping that Garon would return to normal. This is supposed to be a good guy, and who knows how many innocents died because of Xander and Corrin's whims.
Humans are flawed; it's unfortunate that Xander's love for his father led to needless deaths, but that doesn't make him a bad guy for being unwilling to kill his own father in cold blood; there's also something to be said about whether or not he'd even be able to do that, but the game doesn't give enough info on the subject for me to make a strong argument either way.
Besides, i'll repeat myself: what's the standard of morality like in the Fates world? Humans there, and in most of Fire Emblem tbf, are capable of killing hundreds of people at a time, often in very personal ways, and come out of said battles none the worse for wear mentally, and that's not taking into account the differences in culture and behavior that would have to exist in a world that's clearly supposed to parallel our own medieval era but with magic, animal people, concrete evidence of fate existing, and other supernatural shit in it. Whatever makes someone a “good guy” in our world, however vague said definition already is even just in the context of the real world's own wildly inconsistent definitions, is extremely likely to be worthless if applied to Nohrshido, or even just Xander's, likely morality.
> 3) You cannot, I repeat, you cannot base the Nohrian siblings' reluctance to fight Garon on a few hints of how he used to be long before the game began. I feel like this should be obvious, and this is one of the most common excuses to defend the Nohrian siblings for their actions. They're in denial, or abused, or in a state of doublethink. The list can be made long, but here's the problem: that's not how writing a coherent story and characters works. This is "tell, don't show" taken to its absolute extreme, a cardinal sin for this kind of medium.
Explain, with actual arguments this time instead of just this “it's bad because we're only told instead of shown why the siblings care about Garon, and that's bad because you're not supposed to only tell instead of show in a game, and that's bad because we're only told instead of shown why the siblings care about Garon” circular logic bullshit, why i, as an audience member, am not allowed to take pieces of information scattered throughout a story and use them to inform the motivations of characters, even if it's only stated, and why “Tell don't show” is even inherently bad for video games to do. This is phenomenally bad rhetoric, even for these posts.
> The Nohrian siblings adore Corrin; they respect and trust them so much that they praise the protagonist in practically every chapter in one way or another. On the other side of the spectrum, they're consistently shown to be horrified by Garon's cruelty and go out of their way to disobey his orders when possible, according to Leo.
What is this a response to? This just means thay they like Garon more than Corrin, like Garon enough not to be willing to kill him or be killed themselves by disobeying an order in front of him, trying to minimize damage if possible, and doesn't do anything to supplement Odo's previous point of “never tell instead of showing”, a point in desperate need of supporting evidence btw.
> it's as if we're to assume they're loyal to this monster by default no matter how much he goes against everything they stand against. We've already seen Leo execute two people who go against what he thinks should be the Nohrian way, and yet we're expected to believe he can't see why Garon has to go because of some implied, vague memories of how he used to be?
He also disliked both Iago and Zola on a personal level because he didn't like their cowardice, and sparing them would only have caused him and the other siblings to get executed when they inevitably reported back to Garon; he actually likes his father, unlike the other two, and as such won't try to kill him over a perceived flaw of his character, even if it goes against what he believes in. Again, this is demanding that humans be robots who have never-changing belief systems and betray and kill anyone who threatens said beliefs, emotion and history be damned.
> Some people may now say "they were afraid of being executed", to which I say: fine, then don't make them out to be heroes. They just conquered an entire nation and are responsible for a lot of people dying simply because they were afraid.
Firstly, it's not one or the other; it's both. The nohrian siblings still loved Garon too much to up and kill him, AND were afraid for their lives if they disobeyed, probably because they knew they couldn't take him down by themselves. Framing the two choices as if they're mutually exclusive is disingenuous.
Secondly, the game doesn't try to portray them as heroes. Xander all but admits that they were in the wrong for invading Hoshido, even if they tried to minimize some casualties, and vows to do better to stop Nohr from repeating those same mistakes come the ending of Conquest. Does that sound like someone who the game's trying to portray as being on the right side of the conflict to you?
> That's not being a hero, that's being Hetzel from Radiant Dawn except if he personally lit Serenes Forest ablaze because Lekain told him to.
I have no idea what you're referencing, but i assume this Hetzel works for Lekain and is portrayed by RD as being some sort of coward for obeying an immoral command in order to save his own life. Different games can portray loyalty in different ways, so i don't understand the comparison, even if i were to give you, for the sake of the argument, that the nohrian siblings are ONLY doing this out of fear and that the game's trying to portray them as heroes for doing so (which they aren't and which it isn't).
> Even if they were afraid, they were obviously ready to kill Iago, Hans, and half the royal army with Garon in the next room.
After they made it clear that they thought Garon wouldn't be able to see or hear them in there and that they'd make up an excuse to rid themselves of the blame for killing all those people afterwards; this falls firmly on the “obeys orders unless possible to get away with disobeying them without getting themselves killed in the process” clause of their loyalty.
> If you still think the Nohrian siblings are good people, or that they can be excused because they were abused/in denial, let me just ask you one thing: do you think that the game which cannot even get the most basic of logistics right, which manages to make supposed major support characters completely superfluous in the main story, which refuses to answer or even ask the most basic questions characters would have, actually manages to properly convey complex family ties and tackles heavy themes such as family abuse to a satisfactory degree?
Great, the Flora suicide brand of genetic fallacy rears it's ugly head again. “The game has bad writing at certain points, how can you argue that it has good writing at other points?!?!”
I had a long enough rant about this argument in my response to the second part of Odo's Birthright analysis and don't wish to repeat myself; you can see it here if you want.
> Even if you say yes to that, then I hope you at least acknowledge that not nearly enough time was dedicated to portray the siblings' mental states and twisted affection for Garon for it to have the desired impact in the plot.
I'll acknowledge that it would have been nice to have scenes showcasing a pre-possession Garon being nice to the nohrian siblings, but at that point it's just a matter of preference; some people are going to buy the nohrian siblings's affection and loyalty to Garon even with only scattered lines of dialogue throughout the story as to why they care about him, and some aren't. I don't think people should have to claim that something's a problem when said potential problem is so subjective, and they themselves might not even see it as an issue with the story in the first place.
I've already addressed the arguments in the next two paragraphs before, so onto a (relatively) new point:
> This is why Corrin's self-pity rings so hollow, and why all the talk about them bringing about peace sounds more like a parody than anything else. They believe in the path they've chosen, which is absolutely littered with the corpses of the innocent. Not once do they even question the Nohrian siblings' lack of a moral compass either, despite them seemingly thinking that peace can only happen when all other people have been subjugated. Are these really the people who'll bring about world peace?
Peace can, and often does, come at the cost of innocent lives. I don't blame you, or anyone else, for disagreeing with and/or disliking that message, but it isn't contradicting anything when the fact that good people sometimes have to do bad things for the sake of the improvement of the world is a pretty consistent part of Conquest.
> Corrin hasn't known Takumi for, what, more than a day at this point, and after that they've been enemies. I get not wanting to kill the bloke, and in this timeline they still think they're blood related, but this man is still a stranger to them.
Again, Corrin's reaction was toned up by the localization:
> Kamui: That's...!
> Then, you're saying there's no other way than to defeat him!?
> That he's just like Father!
He's just upset that he's going to have to kill Takumi despite the fact that the war's over, which he dislikes because he doesn't normally enjoy killing people. Their bond (or lack thereof) isn't particularly important in this scenario.
> I'm also not sure how Corrin can still call Garon their father. The prologue alone is enough to make Corrin absolutely hate Garon, as evidenced by Birthright, and yet after all the suffering and carnage the slime monster inflicted on the world, the protagonist still calls Garon "father".
It looks weird in the localization, i'll grant you that, but as i've shown in my previous paragraph, it looks more like they call him that out of habit more than out of respect for Garon, or at least the slime version of him.
> Ryoma, you died failing to keep your nation safe from Corrin and you have no reason to call them kind.
He directly stated that he was entrusting Hoshido's safety to whatever plan Corrin had as he was dying from ripping out his own guts; dislike that as much as you want, but that line is perfectly consistent with Ryoma's estabilished character and motivations in his death scene.
He also doesn't call them kind in the jp script, but even i'll concede that that's a nitpick; he still says that they have a strong heart due to all the pain and suffering they endured to get to this point, so the sentiment is basically the same. I'm iffy on how Ryoma knows what Corrin did or didn't do, but the assumption that they didn't like doing it is a safe one given what he knows about their personality and motivation.
> Also, the Yato chose Corrin to conquer your kingdom and kill Takumi?
That, or to kill Garon, or to kill Anankos. Ryoma knows about the Yato and knows that whoever it chooses is destined to save the world one day, so i don't see why he shouldn't be able to put two and two together and realize that Corrin's going to bring peace in the end.
Also, Takumi is right there with Ryoma in the weird pseudo-afterlife place; he could have easily told him and Mikoto that he killed himself due to some demon's possession, not because of Corrin.
> Alright, so, this is just downright character assassination in order to absolve Corrin of the moral dilemma of having agreed to Azura's insane plan. Takumi knew Corrin for a very, very short while, and during that time, Corrin brought the evil sword to Hoshido which killed Mikoto and triggered the war, then they went back to Nohr and helped in the invasion of Hoshido. Takumi didn't even trust Corrin before that; why does he want to look up to Corrin after everything that has happened?
Neither of the bolded lines exist in the jp script:
> Takumi: Thank you. If you and i had fought together, i wonder how reassured i would have been.
> Kamui. The truth is, i really... i wanted to get along as siblings. I wanted to call you sister. I should have said so properly when i was still me...
> But because of my stubbornness, i was determined not to show my true feelings...
> ...I'm sorry.
He never says anything to imply that he still admires Corrin or wants to befriend them after what happened in Conquest, only that he did in the prologue but was too shy to try and reach out to them. We know that Takumi had already started being possessed and having his negative feelings amplified as early as Chapter 10, which not only means that Takumi was genuinely angry at Corrin for their betrayal, otherwise Anankos wouldn't have been able to use his already existing anger and resentment to possess him, but also that, even if we interpret that line as Takumi saying that he still wanted to befriend Corrin even after the route split, that only counts for Chapter 6; he'd already stopped being himself next the two of them meet.
> Conquest, repeatedly and explicitly, excuses Corrin's actions and tries to portray their actions as justified and sensible even though it includes the destruction of Hoshido.
> I'd also expect the game to not be so cowardly as to excuse any and all wrongdoings the protagonist makes. Or, rather, pretend they weren't wrongdoings to begin with.
Give examples. Takumi saying that he wished he wasn't as mean to them during Chapter 5 isn't proof of anything other than the game being consistent with his character.
> I can't help but wonder what he's talking about here, as we've seen nothing of the sort from Hoshido,
The phrasing in the localization is weird, but the jp script makes it pretty clear that Xander's only talking about Nohr at this point:
> Marx: In the last war...
> No, even long before the war began, Nohr soured relations with the people of Hoshido. The king's rule included tyranny and plundering. Rebellions erupted across the land without cease. But i...
> Never again do i want the people - of either country - to see such atrocity.
It's not impossible to interpret it that way in the localization, but it's a lot easier to assume that Xander's talking about both kingdoms due to the way it's phrased there.
> I just want to know what the "misconception about Nohrians" is; Corrin and Xander very much did fight in Hoshido for Nohr.
Hinoka only says she's going to try and clear up misconceptions about Corrin and Xander in the jp script, not the entire Nohrian army.
Besides, do the civilians know why they invaded? Assuming that they did that for personal conquest/glory and knowing that they did so because they believed it'd bring peace to the land (Corrin) or out of fear and/or love (Xander) are two pretty different things, especially when Corrin and Xander tried their hardest to minimize bloodshed.
And even going with the localized version, yeah, it's pretty unfair to judge an entire kingdom's worth of people, even the peasants, because of the actions of it's military and leaders. I don't see any issue with her trying to get her people to stop being racist, even if it's unlikely to work.
> In the real world I think Hinoka's reign would've been a short one with this attitude.
Elaborate. In the real world, assuming everything else that happened in the game remained the same, i genuinely don't see what about Hinoka's attitude would cause her to fail as a leader. I wish there was more here for me to respond to, but this point is way too vague for me to make a response that doesn't require me to guess at what Odo meant by that statement.
> The Ice Tribe, the first battles against Takumi and Ryoma, Azura's performance, the Kitsune, the Wind Tribe, all of Iago's maps...none really altered Corrin's course; there was no direction before chapter 15, and afterwards there was no veering off the path laid out before them.
The ice tribe was the first time that Corrin received evidence that it was possible for them to stay in Nohr without compromising their morals, estabilishing their goal until Chapter 15; the first fight with Takumi set up the fact that there was something wrong with him; the first fight with Ryoma was a show of Corrin's resolve to follow their chosen path to the end, choosing to fight for their right to stay in Nohr over going back to Hoshido; Azura's perfomance led to Garon ordering mass executions on a whim in front of Corrin, causing them to be convinced that Garon couldn't be reasoned with anymore; the Kitsune slaughter serves to make them start doubting whether or not their path will actually lead to peace after they just finished killing dozens of innocent (relatively; the Kitsune attacked first and did so unprovoked, but the team was the one who entered their territory first despite knowing about the rumors, so they're still at fault too) people, only to be reassured after fighting Fuga and putting their trust in the Yato, due to his knowledge on the legendary sword and him claiming that Corrin was indeed worthy to use it, meaning that they were genuinely destined to bring peace to the world one day; Iago's second attempt to kill the team led to the conclusion of Corrin's character arc in Conquest, with Xander reassuring them and telling them to never back down or waver even if they lose a comrade.
I'll give you that Chapter 7 is filler, but every other chapter you mentioned is pretty important to the story and/or characters.
> The developers could've dedicated themselves to a full-blown villain route, but likely didn't because they were afraid the available routes wouldn't been seen as morally equal.
More likely than even that, they didn't do it becuase it wouldn't have made any sense for Corrin's character for that to happen. Unless they did some weird shit with the prologue where, as soon as you picked Conquest, the game rewinded to the start and retconned Corrin into being an evil person, there'd be no way to have a villain route in the game where Corrin's the protagonist.
> Basically, Corrin talks about walking the path of darkness for the greater good, no matter who will end up hating them, but all the important characters excuse, understand, trust and love them regardless.
Eh. The Hoshidan royals (bar maybe Takumi) still like (or liked) them, sure, but pretty much all of their retainers express their distaste for Corrin whenever they fight them personally, Yukimura's last line in the story is him calling Corrin a cowardly monster and that he'll never forgive them, and most of Hoshido hates them for what they did, according to Hinoka. Corrin was completely right in their assessment that people would hate them for choosing this path, looking at it objectively.
The post ends here, so final thoughts:
Surprisingly enough, i actually think this was a step up from the first, and especially the second, part of the Conquest analysis. Many of my issues with these are still present and accounted for, but aside from the attempts at portraying the game as wrong for claiming that Corrin's path wasn't a mistake being especially pronounced this go around, there wasn't anything new for me to complain about!
It's not quite as good as the prologue analysis, but it's probably the second best post so far.
I'll see y'all later.

The outfit for today was picked with care and consideration. Hot, as always- you had forgotten your roots, your hoodie and sweats lay hidden in the bottom of your drawer never to be worn on stream again. You’ve changed. Clout really does that to people. Some viewers, naturally, find your hotness near insulting: how dare you rub your beauty in their faces, and so unabashedly, too?! If only you had a twinge of self-awareness, perhaps you would tone it down. But you don’t, and whether that’s by choice or not is the mystery the whole internet tries to solve (ARMY has been working diligently, and you admire their effort, though in the end their tireless labor brings no tangible results).
You went from hot to hotter. In all truth, the fires eating away at California can be blamed on you. You carry this burden in stride, in your platform overpriced shoes some girl scammed you on Depop with, in your fishnets, in your skirt, in your corset, in your rings and necklaces and chains. You woke up today and chose violence. Decided your existence will be a plague to the rest of the populace, and meant it (that, maybe, you took inspiration from a certain faceless Youtuber that so happens to be your boyfriend or whatever). You feel powerful. Like you could step on the world and the world would let you. You decide that it’s the way it should always be.
The smile on your lips informs of nothing good to your quaint, small audience of 40k. You change the lighting in your room from the soft cherry blossom pink to menacing violet. As fitting for a villain.
Perhaps California’s hellish sun has finally purged you of your bubbly, docile nature (arguably, you had never possessed it to begin with); perhaps it’s the forth mimosa you’re mixing as people slowly trickle into the lobby. Who knows?! Not you, definitely. What do all of those boring dead white European philosophers say? Embrace the unknown? Cheers, you’ll drink to that.
In stark contrast to your appearance, your room is a fucking mess. A war-zone of epic anime scale. Everything is scattered, well, everywhere. A perfect representation on what’s going on in your mind, always. You don’t like how people focus on your surroundings-- you’re the main attraction, hello? Are you not enough to sustain them? Must they beg for more?! Totally ungrateful. You shake your head in disappointment, as if a mother scolding her children.
noooooo! mom pls forgive me i will never ask abt anything ever again T_T
yall looking at the room? lol couldnt be me
feels like im five and my mum just told me i cant eat a pretty rock i found on the pavement:(
You can’t contain your sly grin. Eyes twinkle with a purplish hue, appearing all the more menacing. You tricked them once again, oh how absolutely evil of you. In your blind delight you accidentally spill champagne on your lap.
“-Oop, fuck.” You snort.
why does she sound like goofy
The scandalous drunk Among Us stream is about to start. You had been eerily silent through the greetings, and those that chose to approach you were met with a cold shoulder and minimal replies. All on purpose, of course. You wish to plant a seed of unease within them, and so far, it’s working. There are questions unanswered, jokes unsaid, Quackity unteased. It breaks your heart, but it must be done. You look into the camera, all vulnerable and devout, as if to say: I’m doing this for you, all for you.

“Hey, guys,” Corpse’s voices rings in your headphones, and not a blink later his astronaut appears in the lobby in a cloud of smoke, “Hi, Y/n.”
More sharp, excited hellos follow after. You merely hum, though give no further reply. As Corpse strays to your side, Charlie steps in in front of him, “BDA access only. You have a permit, bitch?”
“Y/n is being quiet-she’s being quiet, guys!” Quackity helpfully informs, as if the rest failed to notice your cryptic silence, “Don’t be sad Corpse, man, Corpse don’t be-she didn’t say shit to me either.”
“Y/n has decided to not waste her breath on the SDS.” Charlie voices, “And you know what? I actually agree with her for once.”
“SD-what now?” Dream questions.
“The Small Dick Society.” Charlie explains, noting Dream’s whine of protest, “Oh no, don’t give me that shit, weren’t you bitching about not being invited and not belonging to exclusive clubs? Congratulations, you’re finally part of one.”
“Wait!” Quackity interjects, “Am I part of it too?”
“Guess, Sherlock.”
“I’ll drink to that.” Corpse says. You nod to your audience, like he just spoke the God honest truth, and follow in his example. Your tentative sip unexpectedly turns into a greedy gulp, but you’re not complaining. The only slightly coherent thought that rings in your mind is drink tasty.
“Ignore them,” Rae chimes, “Y/n’s probably plotting something and using Charlie as a cover up.”
“I’d never.” The words slip past your lips before you can stop them.
“Well you sure are very quick to deny it.” You can hear her smirking, can hear the proud lilt in her voice, like she caught onto your silly little scheme, like she has you all figured out. Your eyes narrow dangerously. The night behind your window pools dark, with far away city lights glimmering before they, too, seem to dim.
Your roommate is back on your shitlist. How her name was missed among the rest.
“I’m defending my honor.” You yelp, the playfulness back in your voice along with your sunny smile, “I can’t have my wifey slandering me online. At least do it in private, geez.”
If Rae’s such a good detective, you’ll give her a good chase. Perhaps you’ve been laying it on too thick. Made her too suspicious. She can’t out you yet--not when your plans are so grand, so fun. It would be a waste.
“Why weren’t you saying anything then?” Quackity questions.
“Do I need a reason not wanting to talk to you?” You shoot back. Your friends laugh and he tries to shriek something past their cackle. You lean back into your chair, the tension from Rae’s confrontation finally easing. You wink at the camera and bring a finger to your lips. The roaches swear to secrecy, elated by your wickedness. As appropriate, they spam devil emojis and various renditions of evil hohohos and hehehes. The apple truly does not fall far from the tree. You had raised them well. You raise your glass in solidarity. A few donations fall into your pocket, easily summed up as: make them suffer.
Muting the discord call, you give a single response, “Oh, I intend to.”
i hope this doesn’t awaken something in me
^already too late for me bro
As caught up in wreaking havoc among your viewers as you are, you miss Sykkuno’s entrance, though from what you can tell, Charlie gave a stern warning to back the fuck off to him, too. He’s playing into your plan so beautifully. Truly, you couldn’t do this without him. Back to stalking the chat you go.
Your eyes flicker to the game upon Bretman’s signature drawl and “Hi, daddy.”. You have no time to get offended at Corpse’s sweet “Hi, honey” back, because the next person to join the discord call and the lobby leaves you speechless. You knew, of course, you had been informed of the line-up, but still, you had never expected yourself to be so close to Jomes Chorles himself. You make a weird gesture with your hands, half wave half excited wiggle, as if you’re telling the audience to calm down, when, in fact, it is you that needs calming.
He goes saying his hello’s like doing a public service, name by name, before, lastly, uttering, “Hi, Miss Y/n. Loooove the vids.”
He’s a roach in disguise, who could’ve known?! Your audience is so diverse and unexpected, gosh, you’d shed a tear if the mascara wasn’t so expensive.
“Hi!” You reply with a grin, and it’s genuine this time, a glimmer of your old self, “Hi, I love your videos, too. It’s like, really cool to finally meet you.”
“Oh my God, you too!” Is his enthusiastic reply, “Okay, the energy in the studio today? Love it.”
“Is this all of us?” Quackity asks.
“Sadly.” James says with a note of disappointment.
“HEY!”
“Okay, guys!” Ash chimes, “Let’s do this! Proximity Among Us, round one, go go go!”

Luck does not shine upon you during the first round- you are stuck as Crew Mate, your life cut short by Bretman who had the audacity to bite your head off. You’re positive Ke$ha wrote her hit single Cannibal about him, and if she didn’t, she definitely had a That’s So Raven moment and predicted it. It’s also insanely suspicious as after you are eliminated he sticks real close to Corpse, feigning innocence (and this is a controversial opinion you do not endorse) better than even you. It wounds your pride, having been picked off so casually, so quickly, and now stuck a ghost you roam the halls of the dying spaceship, lost, confused, heartbroken.
Charlie runs past you, not once even glancing in your direction. “Brother...” You mutter sadly, “Do you not see me here? Do you not feel... the loss of your twin’s heartbeat...?" Damn, these mimosas really are making you emotional. You sniffle and take a sip to calm the storm within you. No rage, just sadness. You are still processing your own tragic demise.
Suddenly, a meeting is called. There’s a horrible red X on your astronaut. You are the only one dead so far, and of course the rest won’t vote out the fucker. How bitterly you sit! With your arms crossed over your chest and your glare sharp enough to cut through glass. Fuck the sad shit, now you’re just angry. At the very least, the second Impostor could’ve given you some company!
“I knew something felt off.” Charlie is first to speak.
“Who the fuck killed Y/n?” Corpse questions, and his voice ignites a whole discussion that lasts much too short. The others skip, having no suspect yet. It’s much too soon to start pointing fingers, but you still feel like they should have at least tried. Pouting, you fix yourself another drink.
“Stop drinking!?” You gasp, exasperated at your chats demands, “I’m dead! What else should I do, the tasks?! Nah, fuck that. I’m done. I’m out. Charlie better employ his fucking detective skills because if the Impostors win, I will literally quit the game--yes I will, no I’m not bullshitting, fucking watch me.”
Thankfully, Bretman was caught venting, and you didn’t have to end the stream prematurely. The second Impostor, your roommate (oh, the betrayal, Rae, how could you?!) was voted out due to Corpse’s suspicion. Victory to the Crew Mates! The game restarts and you find yourself back in the lobby.
“Miss Y/n,” Bretman says, “I am sooo sorry for killing you first, baby. It was just too easy. I couldn’t pass it up.”
Giggling, Quackity chimes, “Sister slaughtered.”
“Oh my God,” James groans, “shut up!”
“Yeah, Y/n.” Charlie speaks, and there’s an accusatory note in his calm voice, “Why the fuck did you allow yourself to be eliminated first? Real noob shit, I expected more of you.”
“HUH?!” You frown, “What’s with the victim blaming?! I literally was doing my task and Bretman snuck up on me. It’s not like I had a weapon to defend myself!”
“You have been avenged,” Corpse states, “and that’s all that matters.”
“Thank you, Corpse!” You say, “At least someone cares.”
“Hey, I helped, too!” Dream pipes up.
“No, you didn’t.” Corpse shoots him down, “I was the only one.”
“You were not--”
“Literally was. Isn’t that right, Sykkuno?”
“Uhhhh-” Sykkuno trails off, “Well, we-we all helped!” You can hear his shy smile, and you just know he’s bobbing his head up and down at this exact moment, “We all helped. Team work!”
“Team work!” The rest echo, save for yourself, Corpse, Charlie, and the two Impostors. Silence speaks more than a thousand words or whatever. You pray to any higher power willing to listen to finally assign you the role of the villain, the one you were born to do.
Sadly, higher powers must have either shitty customer service or are in need of hearing aids, and you almost scream in frustration when your astronaut appears along with the others, the bold CREW MATE title chipping away at your master plan.

“Hey, Y/n, hey! Hey, Y/n!” Rae finds you in Cafeteria, where you, metaphorically, are eating your feelings. Not that she needs to know, of course. She sounds chipper, a bit ditsy, and that must mean she’s sufficiently tipsy. You store that information for later, and forget about it as soon as you notice Dream and Sykkuno, like her very own personal bodyguards, trailing after her, “Wanna play a game?!”
“Is this Saw?” You inquire, somewhat lazy. You’d be lying if you said the alcohol wasn’t affecting you, it’s just instead of making you bubbly, it makes you mellow. This was supposed to be fun, you were supposed to terrorize everyone and laugh as they perished by your hand, yet here you are, wallowing in self-pity. The roaches start worrying. The donation jingle chimes.
BEATINGS & SLUTATIONS yns_fishnets donated 5$ mom just wait it out & dont worry youll get your vengeance soon lead them on!!!!
Your fishnets have a point!
“Saw?--No, no, haa, no it’s a drinking game.” Dream sounds like he has had one too many rounds of this mysterious game, and naturally, you are intrigued.
“Where we drink!” Sykkuno clarifies. Right, well that explains everything! If you had any questions, you surely have none now.
“Okay, so, name a category, and you have to, like, say a word associated with it...Or something along those lines.” You hadn’t even agreed and Rae is explaining the rules already. She knows you too well. It’s both a blessing and a curse, “Can be anything! Okay, Y/n, Y/n, Y/n start!”
“Uhh--” If only your brain computed as fast as she spoke! “Song lyrics! Wait--who drinks?”
“You fail, you drink!” She hurries, “Choke me like you hate me but you love meeeeee. Syk, go, go go!”
“Uhm, ah, I don’t wanna feel like this, uh, fuck?” He laughs--it’s a raspy, embarrassed little sound, “I don’t...wanna look like this? Dream, now you!”
“Wait, we’re singing Corpse’s songs?”
“Any song!” You urge him quickly, “Hurry! Or drink!”
“She say I kill her cat like I'm Luka Magnotta--”
“Hey! That’s cheating! You can’t use my song!” Rae protest.
“That wasn’t in the rules!” He counters.
“Y/n! Time’s running out!” Sykkuno exclaims.
“Oh, uh, will-will the real Slim Shady please stand up!”

“Ra-Ra-Rasputin, Russia’s greatest love machine--”
“All...All the other kids with the pumped up kicks better, uhh, run better run, faster...-faster than my gun?”
“Uhh, shit--fucking hell.” Dream laughs, and Rae practically screams at him to keep going, “Alright! Okay! I’m singing--uh, you’re so golden, na na na na?”
“I tell you what a woman loves most,” You chime gleefully, “it’s a man who can slap but can also stroke.”

“I steal a few breeeeaaaths from the woooorld for a minute--”
“Mitski?!” You question, eyes bulging, “Baby, who hurt you?”
Even if you can’t see her, you know she’s waving her arms around and shaking her head, “Not the point! Sykkuno!”
“Uh, I-I, uhm, I don’t--”
“Drinnnnk!” You all chorus.
“It was a good concert,” You say, “Syk, I’ll drink with you.”
“Thank you, Y/n. That’s very kind of you.” He says softly, with a smile lining his lips. You grin.
“Oh, fine. Everyone, bottoms up!” Rae decides, and no one protest. A moment of silence passes, then, “Well, GG, GG, let’s do some tasks?”
Your enthusiastic Ariana Grande-esque “yuh” is cut short by the second meeting of game two being called. The first one to go had been Ash, voted out during a bathroom break as a joke, and you still feel a bit bad about that. Now, you notice Charlie has been eliminated. A sense of righteousness fills you--while you mourn for your brother from another mother and father and family tree, you feel like this is divine punishment for slandering you before the start of this round. Karma. Nothing much is discussed, and the meeting ends shortly with everyone skipping.
You spend a good ten minutes wandering around with Dream, who’s mission appears to be convincing you to join his Minecraft server, and really, there was no need for him to try so hard. You failed to provide him with a concrete answer only because it would've been to humiliating to admit that you agreed instantly upon hearing the word Minecraft.
That’s when things get fucking weird. Another meeting is called whilst you’re in the middle of fixing lights, and once the board with the members appears you audibly gasp. There had been 8 living, breathing astronauts rushing around the map, and now only 4 remain. You, Corpse, James, and Alex.
“What the fuck--what the fuck?!” You screech alarmed, noting Dream being among the perished crew, “I was just with Dream fixing the lights, I was just with him, what the fuck--”
“Okay, no one panic.” James says, “Let’s figure this out. Okay? Okay. Who else is close to Electrical?”
“I’m at Nav.” Quackity says.
“I’m at Cafeteria, but Y/n--” Corpse starts, “kinda weird that Dream died when you were with him?”
“I didn’t fucking kill him, I swear to God, Corpse, why are you accusing me?”
“Don’t be so defensive.” He says smoothly, “I’m just pointing out the obvious. We all have a reason to be sus, no? Considering you were right with him.”
“...It is suspicious.” James agrees, and a part of you dies inside. You understand their hesitance to trust you, but it doesn’t make it any less frustrating!
“Guys, I didn’t kill him, I swear. He invited me to play Minecraft, I wouldn’t do that to him, not after that!”
Corpse merely hums, and it brings no comfort what’s so ever. The situation is spiraling, and not in your favor. Trying to salvage your chances at freedom, you try again, “Wh-James, James, you called the meeting, right?”
“Yeah, I found Rae’s body near Medical.”
“So I couldn’t have killed her and Dream at the same time!” You latch onto that piece of information, hoping it will save you.
“You could’ve vented.” Corpse points out, “Plus, there’s no telling how old the body is.”
“Killing five fucking people? It’s the work of one person, or else the game would have already ended. As it stands, I am no way sober enough to think all of this out.”
A brief silence hangs in the air; your lungs constrict from tension, from spilling words so hotly. You grasp your glass, as if for emphasis, and take a shy sip. It taste sweet, a bit too sweet for your liking. Must be your nerves. You drink again to wash the taste out of your mouth, which, surprisingly, doesn’t work. You whine a little, stomping your feet like a child about to throw a temper tantrum.
“...I believe her.” Quackity says. You breathe out a sigh of relief.
“Alex, thank youuuuuu!” You gush, batting your lashes as if he could somehow see you and that would somehow portray your innocence, “I knew I liked you for a reason!”
He mutes his mic, his spill of words lost to your ears, but chat helpfully informs that he’s screaming because you don’t hate him.
y/n out here collecting men like pokemon cards
Now all that’s left is to convince the others. You start with the one you know will work, “Corpse,” You address him in your sweetest voice.
“Y/n,” James warns, “don’t you dare--”
“Baby, I didn’t kill anyone, I’m crew mate, you gotta believe me.”
“She's innocent.” Corpse declare, thoroughly convinced.
“Oh my fucking God, you fucking simp!” James laughs, “She’s obviously manipulating you!”
“No, no, she isn’t. She’s innocent, I agree with Quackity. Now, it’s either you or him.”
“Could be you for all we know!” Alex accuses.
“Guys, time’s running out.” You mutter fretfully, noting the seconds tick by from white to red.
“I’m voting Alex.” Corpse says.
“What?! Fucking traitor! Fine, I’m voting for you.” Alex hisses.
“Ugh, hate agreeing with Quackity, but I’m also voting Corpse. Sorry, hon, nothing personal.” James says. The VOTED icons pop up beside their characters and you panic, pressing your mouse idly but it’s too late, there wasn’t enough time, and you cry as Corpse is thrown into lava. The chat spams F, and it feels like salt on a fresh wound.
In a second you’re back in Cafeteria, shell-shocked and trembling, and Quackity cusses because the Impostor is still among you. His frustration doesn’t last long as you watch in horror as Jams Chortles, beauty guru supreme, murders the only other crew mate in cold blood and all you can do is gape and let his cheerful laughter fill your ears. The screen bleeds red, informing of Impostor victory, the second one being Ash. Looks like you voted her off for the right reason, but little difference did it make.
“Corpse!” You yell past the cacophony of voices, all in varying forms of excitement or anger, beelining for his in-game figure, “Corpse, I’m so sorry, I panicked, I tried pressing the button but I wasn’t quick enough--”
“It’s alright, baby. Don’t worry about it.” He’s so calming, so gentle, you might burst into tears again. What did you do to deserve him? You wish he was with you so you could smother him in a hug. Alas, all you can do now is say “I kith you, mwah!” and rush to the other side of the lobby, as if to hide from such a bold display of affection, even if it was a joke (it wasn’t).
yall say corpse simps for y/n but the reality is y/n simps for corpse harder
queen stop its embarrassing
bhaddies can simp!! i wouldnt but its her choice <3
More deliberations, commentary, and short breaks. Once everyone has returned, the countdown starts. You’re still reeling from the chaos of emotions, the five stages of grief you experienced in 1 second upon Corpse’s unjust demise, that it takes you a moment, a single heartbeat to realize what you’re seeing on screen.
The letters IMPOSTOR hang above your astronaut, with Dream standing just behind you as your newly appointed partner in crime. And suddenly, all the sadness and the tenderness and sympathy vanish with a curt exhale. You slowly turn your head to the chat, muting the Discord call, your soft chuckle of disbelief turning into a full blown laugh.

The crew mates go their own ways, rushing to do their tasks like the diligent little workers they are. How adorable. Their grim fate is still miles away from them. The shit you’ll pull will be for the history books. Much like your outfit, which you picked keeping in mind your newfound thirst for blood, you had devised your plan of action with care and consideration. You had been mulling it over all day, drawing on paper like the absolute madwoman you are; hell, you even made sticky notes on who to go for first and what to say. Sure, being moderately drunk hinders your memory slightly (an understatement of the century), but you got a feel for what you’re going to do. It’s nothing short of evil.
Dream and you don’t exchange words, you merely nod at him-- which he, of course, can’t see-- but your criminal bond enables telepathic communication. You can hear his thoughts, ones that strangely sound like drink drink, drink drink. And really, who are you to refuse such an enticing offer?! As he fucks off to stalk his victims, or play pretend, you take a sip. The cocktail is still sweet, but this time it’s not the icky sweet you had tasted prior. You glance at your sticky notes, ones the roaches can’t see, and nearly spill your drink for the second time today as you jerk.
“Fuck!” You exclaim, shoving your headphones off and spinning in your chair. You hastily stand up, wobble -- the world is pleasantly funny right about now -- and giggle. Stepping past the mountains of abandoned clothes and pillows and blankets and anime plushies, you maneuver your way to your bedside table and yank it open, nearly taking out the whole drawer with you. In the mess of old diaries and bad drawings, pencils, jewelry, and stickers, you fish out something you should not be wielding in your inebriated state.
It’s a knife.
In midst of teenage angst you had ordered it off of Amazon with your mom’s credit card, all the while whining that it’s not a phase, mom, and it’s what all of my cool kid friends with fried hair have, and don’t you want me to fit in, don’t you want your daughter to be happy?! You think it’s about that time, the time of too much uneven eyeliner and black eye shadow, that she took to calling you little raccoon. Trash rabbit was your personal favorite, but she used it sparingly. When you presented your Macy’s outfit, holding up a fucking butterfly knife, to your dad, asking if it was a look, he glanced up from some boring business magazine all boring business dads read and said, with a bright smile might you add, “It’s a something!”.
Oh, how it gleams in the lilac light. You used to do tricks with it, back in eight grade maybe, and--what the fuck? Why did you parents allow you to buy it in the first place? Well, because you’re the only child, the only one important, of course they got it for you and clapped enthusiastically at your performances, because why wouldn’t they? The whining they’d face otherwise would’ve been harder to endure than a whole dance number to Panic! At The Disco’s greatest hits. Broadway looked so fucking shabby in comparison. Your mom said so, so it must be true.
Stumbling back to your extremely confused viewers, you take your seat, feeling a bit more grounded now that you’re not standing on your platform shoes anymore. Putting on your headphones, you grin at the chat that starts swimming, and not from too much drinking either. You do a quick flick of your wrist, one that thankfully doesn’t end in injury, and the sharp tip of the exposed knife points upwards, glimmering. It’s a rainbow colored one, because one, it’s pretty, and two, you weren’t hardcore enough for the jet-black or straight up military ones the other emo kids had. Cute and dangerous, just like you.
So you just sit there, holding it up, looking somewhat sly as the roaches capture this momentous moment with screen-caps. Someone definitely clipped you trudging past the obstacle course to obtain a weapon of mass destruction. You must be already trending on Twitter, though you can’t exactly log on and confirm your suspicions. You just feel like you might be, like you should be, because your audience wouldn’t let this slide. Thankfully, your friends don’t have time to check social media, or you’d be outed in an instant.
“Y/n?” Your roommates voice booms from your headphones, and you perk up with a stupid realization that you completely forgot about Among Us. Stuck at the start, at the lobby where Dream had left you, you see her astronaut waddling to you, “What are you doing here? Wait--Have you not moved from the beginning?” She can barely finish the sentence without giggling.
You grin, “I was looking for something.”
Your voice is soft, too calm for your usual frantic spill. You gently set the knife down, hand coming to rest on your mouse, fingers idly, slowly, bouncing on the buttons.
“...What were you looking for?” She’s none the wiser, the numerous drinks consumed tonight numbing her sharp mind. She would have noticed. Your eerie composure would’ve given it away in a heartbeat, or at least hinted at something being objectively wrong. But she sounds curious. Poor girl, hasn’t she heard? Curiosity killed the cat.
“A knife.”
“A knife?!” There’s something about her tone that implies a mental clicking, the puzzle pieces falling together, “You have a knife?!”
“Yes.”
“No!”
You think it would only be appropriate that the random sequence of killing animations renders the backstabbing one. You grin, biting your lower lip with a quiet snicker.
i love women
if evil bad...why seggy?
You take your time leaving her there -- in true serial-killer-to-be fashion, you stick around for a bit longer, admiring your handiwork, or more like the chat singing your praises. You joined today with the intent of making an interesting stream. You have no doubt in your mind that now it will be legendary.
You move down the hallway, and you let your imagination wander: you can almost feel the stuffy air of your helmet, can almost hear your loud footsteps echoing in all this hush, can almost see your reflection in the spotless tile floor. It’s not long before your second victim makes an appearance, running circles in Cafeteria. You hear his voice first before you see him, recognizing Alex by his unhinged screech of “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s goooo!”
“And what’s got you so excited?” How cool and collected you are, gosh, you barely contain the quiver of excitement that threatens to slip out.
“Y/n!” He exclaims, rushing to your side like a lost puppy--he’s really making this easy for you, he’s not even trying, “You just missed--Oh my fucking God, you just missed James, he-he called me tall, he called me fucking tall! Let’s go, let’s gooooo!”
“Well, you are tall, aren’t you?” You chime sweetly, almost as sweet as the drink that lingers on the tip of your tongue, “Real 6′3 energy, no?”
“Yes, yes, exactly! You get it, you fucking get it--” Once again, his mic goes mute, and you glance at the chat for help.
hard to transcribe what hes saying but hes taking shots and yelling that he loves you good job mom
hey, queen! girl, you have done it again, constantly raising the bar for us all and doing it flawlessly
mom plz dont kill alex hes too cute hes all uwu rn
Oh, how you’re about to break his poor little heart. If you had any good left in you, you’d spare him. You don’t, and you’re not taking requests at the moment, so all you do is smile at your chat and they know. They just do. Hive-mind shit, you’re all two-faced little fuckers.
You giggle, and it sounds a tad fake, “You’re so weird, Alex,” You start, and he’s back in the call, a sound of confusion echoing in your ears, “but I get it, you know. You’re weird. You’re a weirdo. You don’t fit it, and you don’t want to fit in. I mean, really, has anyone even seen you without your stupid hat?”
“...Do--” He sputters, bellowing a laugh, “Do you have that whole fucking monologue memorized?!”
“Is it because you’re bald?”
“I’m not fucking bald!” His giddiness is quickly replaced by anger.
You hum, pretend to think, lastly barking a “Liar.” before you kill him. His scream is cut off, leaving only deafening silence at it’s wake. Unlike with Rae, you don’t stick around. You didn’t appreciate how little he enjoyed your recital.
You run into James near Navigation, most likely on his way to Cafeteria. He ends his song mid-note, and you breathe a sigh of relief, “Finally! Someone! I’ve been looking all over, where the hell is everyone?” You question, blocking his way, lest he accidentally stumbles onto the crime scene and easily pins it on you. You’re not done yet.
“Honestly? No clue. I’m searching for them myself, like, everyone’s scattered. I hope no one died.”
You smile. You tried not to, but you can’t contain it, “Me, too.” You echo the sentiment, urging him to join you, and he does. Too trusting. Everyone in this game is too fucking trusting. You lead him back to Nav, feigning that you have a task here. As you pretend to move the spaceship, you can’t help but ask, “Hey, James?”
“Yeah?”
“What’s your favorite scary movie?”
A beat of silence passes, “Oh no, fuck that, I don’t like this at all.” He states, about to spin on his heel and bolt like he should do, but you’re quicker-- killer instincts and all-- and he’s dead before he makes it out the doorway.
“See, after your No More Lies video, I figured you’d only tell the truth.” Yes, this is the part of the anime where the villain monologues, only the hero in this case is an astronaut cut in half, and not exactly alive to listen to you. You hope James’ ghost sticks around, “Case in point, why the fuck did you tell Quackity he’s tall?” You eye the chat, which’s mostly spamming W and comparing you to Ryo from Devilman Crybaby. “Such a shame...” You murmur, pressing the REPORT button.
“What?! How are so many people dead?!” Ash gasps, her kind voice tinted with fear and confusion. Your three kills, like military stars on an uniform of a distinguished officer, are displayed on the board. Dream appears to be slacking, having yet to take a life.
“Someone’s been real fucking busy.” Charlie observes. It’s true, you have been.
“I found James in Nav, but holy shit--” You begin, exasperated, “--what the fuck, guys, how did we miss this shit? Where is everyone?”
“I’m at Electrical.” Corpse voices.
“And I’m with Corpse.” One sentence is all it takes to figure out your next target: Bretman. Revenge for being killed first in the first goddamn round, and for spending so much time with your boyfriend.
Eep!!! Boyfriend boyfriend boyfriend!!! The word even makes you forget your thirst for blood, that’s how whipped you are. Sadly, it’s time to return to reality, to this grave situation.
“And what have the two of you been conspiring?” You keep your tone level, but that alone is enough to set everyone off. The unease you had planted within them before the game started is starting to bloom. However, if they suspect you, they don’t speak up, not yet.
“Fishnets, mostly.” Corpse says.
only partly a lie he was mostly talking abt u queen <3
corpse simping for y/n is the sweetest thing ever
the times corpse used y/ns name when talking abt y/n: 1. the times he used baby or my baby: infinite
“I’m wearing them right nyoooow.” Bretman drawls.
You hum, “What a coincidence. I am, too.”
“Wait--For real?” That seems to catch Corpse’s attention, because of course it does, you picked them with him in mind, after all.
“No peeping.” You tsk, obviously referring to his tendency to hop onto your stream unprompted. Whether he actually listens to your demands is beyond you, “Peeping means cheating.”
“For the love of fuck all, can we get back to the three dead bodies, please? Because I’m about to have a second coming of Christ moment and taste my consumed, digested beer for the second time.” Charlie interjects.
“I mean, anyone have any ideas who’d do this?” Dream takes hold of the conversation. Quiet, disappointed nos greet him. They have nothing to go on, no clues, not even a subliminal message. With everyone scattered, there is no way of locating the actual bodies and drawing a long red trail leading back to you.
You’re too good at lying, and Dream is too good of a publicist. People tend to trust his judgement, which is his main asset (besides his calm demeanor of course). When the Among Us gods chose you as Impostor, they made sure you had every advantage.
“Who-Who do you think it is, Dream?” Ash questions, “I trust you. I do. Just know that.”
“No fucking clue.”
“Y/n?” She tries again.
“Same. I’m a bit worried, though.”
“Let’s, uhhh, let’s skip?” Sykkuno offers. The consensus is to start voting at six. Your new mission is to make sure you dwindle the numbers down drastically before that can happen. You have no qualms about sacrificing Dream in order to meet your goals, either. Absolutely cold blooded.
Back at Cafeteria, there are words exchanged about Quackity’s body just laying there, forgotten. Blame is shifted: how come we didn’t notice sooner? Where’s Rae? And you mindlessly go along with their mourning, not really paying attention. Dream leaves with Charlie and Sykkuno, Corpse requests you stay with him and you sprout fake apologies. Not his time yet. Us girls need to stick together!, you sing, following after Ashley and getting further and further away from him, going deeper and deeper into the labyrinth of the spaceship.
You find yourself in Security with her, her cute astronaut pressed to the cameras, watching the live feed, “Let’s lurk here, okay? Maybe we’ll see something.” If only she saw who was standing behind her.
“Who do you think is the Impostor?” You ask, standing in the doorway, “Or, more like, who are the Impostors?”
“Honestly?” She ends her word with a little sigh, “I think it might be Corpse and Bretman. I haven’t seen them at all this game.”
You smile, raising your brows, tilting your heard, and you sound so kind, like a dear old friend about to deliver a tender message, “...Have you seen me?”
“SHIT!”
Too late. In one smooth motion she joins the afterlife. You cut the lights, venting mindlessly till you spot Corpse and Bretman panicking in Weapons. Your existence is still a mystery to them.
“Fuck fuck fuck fuck--” Corpse mumbles, “Bretman, don’t you dare fucking kill me right now.”
“I’m not Impostor!”
“Okay, I’ll drink to that.”
They rush out of Weapons, most likely on their way to Electrical, and you trail after them like the Grim Reaper itself, biding your time till you can deliver the killing blow.
“Corpse?!” You call out, mild panic ringing in your voice, “Is that you?”
“Shit, Y/n? Where are you?” He questions. Crew vision is so sad, so small, how can he not see you standing almost right next to him? “Where’s Ash?”
“I dunno,” You say, “when the lights went out I ran. Please don’t kill me.”
“I’d never do that, baby.”
Too easy. They’re all too fucking easy. You bite your lower lip, trying to stop the laugh bubbling in your chest, to stop the lightheaded dizziness that overcomes you with a rush of excitement.
“Thanks, pretty boy.” You mutter, and it sounds a bit lower than you intended, a bit darker, something sinister lurking underneath cotton candy words. It instantly clicks in Bretman and he makes a noise, something like a whine, and you see him backing away, “I know I can always trust you.”
Whether Corpse notices the odd shift in tone, he doesn’t show it, “I like it when you call me that.” Is all he says, and you hear the smile in his voice, the appreciation. The trek to Electrical is all but forgotten. You slowly make your way to Bretman, “Where are you? Come here.”
“Just a minute,” You say cheerily, “I just need to kill Bret first.”
“Holy shit.”
“N-” Your victim’s sentence is cut off in a second, and you can’t contain your manic cackle this time, because the screen bleeds red, the words VICTORY splattered on it, depicting yours and Dream’s sneaky astronauts. You’re still laughing as the voices of your fallen friends ring in your ears.
“Y/n, what the fuck, you’re an actual monster.” Dream says, but there’s no actual weight behind his words, each syllable punctured with a laugh.
“I knew the second she asked me about my favorite scary movie that I’d get the chop.” James states.
“Wait, Y/n, did you kill everyone?” Corpse questions.
“She fucking did!” Dream answers for you, “I got Charlie and Sykkuno, and barely at that. What the fuck.”
“I’ve been waiting so fucking long for this.” You admit, giggling, raising you glass, “I toast to you, Dream. My perfect partner in crime.”
“I didn’t really do shit, but cheers.”
Quackity heaves a heavy sigh, “Y/n, Y/n, you don’t actually think I’m weird, right? Right?”
“No, she does.” James chimes.
“WHAT THE FUCK DID I EVER DO TO YOU, DUDE?!”
More commotion, more noise, and you just sit there, buzzed, snickering, reading the chat as the rest agree to play another round. You thank the people who donated that you had accidentally missed among the, you know, murder, reply to a few questions, bow dramatically to the many praises and invisible flowers you receive for such beautiful assassin work. When you look back at the screen, you throw your head back with a maniacal laugh.
Impostor again, only this time it’s with Charlie. Family bonds are often restored when united under a common goal. You’re so happy. So happy. You weren’t done terrorizing your friends yet.

That anaversary aizen looks absolutely fabulous, he looks like a figure skater xd.
I heard along time ago the last arc of the anime was being animated finally bc they pulled a 90s sailor moon were the last season was not either animated or dubbed untill decades later.
I recall near the end of the current 366 episodes there was an episode were the creapy demon ppl woke up in hell and we're all bitter, and there was the other guy who was like, iM cOmEiNg FoR u IChIgO, but then is never mentioned again after and I'm like, why? Why is lt there just plopted randomly into a different arc that seams unrelated.
And locking aizen up underground seems ok, but It deff won't hold, and he will. Escape, and he will kill, you either need that one spell from star, dubbed, the darkest spell of moon the undaunted, a powerfull dark spell that killed immortal beings, that came from best character, eclipsa, the queen of darkness.
We need that.
Or stick him I'm crystal like eclipsa was in star. Is there no one who could trap him in ice or crystal for all eternity.
How about throw him into the centre of a volcano trapped and caged , forverr being killed by heat?
I assume there's space travel, send I'm into a black whole, were a black whole don't fuckin care if your immortal or fat, you will die
:3
Yes, I love anniversary Aizen. His original octopus-butterfly hollow design was ugly so I'm glad he's back to being the fashion icon he is.
Locking Aizen up underground once is one thing, doing it twice after saying he got more powerful by just sitting there, and he escaped to battle the Quincy Soul King God... is another. I think he should have escaped at the end of the Quincy arc. That is the only feasibility.
I heard the anime is coming back for the Quincy arc as well, but because of COVID its probably going to be delayed. (I'm not gonna watch it until the Rain section of the arc then I'm dipping out. I'm only here for Zangetsu)
and funny that you mention that hell scene in the manga :)
-> spoilers for the new BLEACH 73 page anniversary chapter / thoughts/critique on it
So hey you had a premonition! Syazel .... returned? And his hole is outside of his body??? for some reason???
(I didn't understand the explanation or why / how that happens and what that means for the hollow)
And my friend and I were laughing because out of ALL the things. Kubo could do in this anniversary. He gave Syazel his dick back after going to hell. That is iconic. (that's where his hole was located, and now that its not on his body ... well...) This is the funniest thing Kubo has EVER pulled. Kudos to you, sir.
The entire internet is freaking out over Ukitake being in hell. Honestly Kubo has done far worse, and we've established that Soul Society is a corrupt system that hasn't changed, so I'm not surprised he would pull something like this.
At the same time, Kubo 1. cheated his audience. 2. continues to prove me right that he cannot bring himself to kill his characters
1. Hollows who have commit murder in their human life are sent to hell. Syazel and Aaorniero are two of these hollows, and yet, when they are killed, there is NO gates of hell scene. We see them there later in the hell chapter (which was more of a promotion for the fourth movie and I didn't believe it would hold any merit)
But the same goes for Ukitake. We never see the gates of hell take him. What, was hell late? Did hell's gates get lost like an uber before picking him up? It's bull. Withholding such vital information from your audience, not showing the gates of hell when they should pick up this soul IMMEDIATELY is ... I mean its a lie. Kubo lied to his audience.
2. Now we are told powerful shinigami are sent to hell when they die. First of all that sounds like a security threat. Wouldn't shinigami want revenge for that? Or attempt to escape? Why would they still hold loyalty after being sent to a prison of eternal suffering?
Also "Yhwach and Aizen" were the only ones keeping Hell's gates closed is way too convenient and doesn't really make any sense. I feel like Aizen should have deliberately gone to hell to retrieve powerful shinigami / hollows for his army instead of keeping it /closed/.
This is definitely a Kubo-doesn't-know-what-he's-doing-and-is -making- stuff-up-as-he-goes, but it might have a pinch of merit because of previous plot lines.... but either way, there's some big plot holes here, but again, its Kubo, so I expected nothing less.
Again, he can't kill off his characters. He introduced zombification, he introduced immortality through the hougyoku, he has Orihime and Hachigen's reversal / rejection abilities. He brought back Luppi, friggen.... a character who's entire upper half of his body was incinerated. Like.... come on. No. He's dead, you can't bring him back like that. That's a cop out and just weird. You're taking away consequences and grief.
(Also Yamamoto and Unohana deserve to be in hell far over Ukitake, they've done some fcked up stuff in their pasts unlike him)
Also Kubo's favorite character is Mayuri, which.... you're allowed to have a favorite problematic character. But Keeping said character alive and bared from the consequences of abusing his daughter, murdering innocents, and experimenting on your own squad members? Nah. Nope. Kill him, Kubo. Kill this dude.
(his weird attachment to Mayuri is probably why he keeps bringing Syazel back, since Syazel is Mayuri 2.0, but Syazel is the bad guy who does face consequences for his actions while Mayuri is not)
~
Also, I'm certain Kazui and Orihime are going to be THRILLED that their precious husband/dad is going to hell when he dies :)
(I just... Rukia teased Ichigo about leaving Orihime at home. She teased him about having a house wife who he leaves all the chores to. Orihime had two panels. She checks on her son who promised he would be at home and sleep. Kazui fcking breaks his promise like it never mattered to him and JUMPS out the window after pretending to sleep in front of his mother. ... An 8 year old... alone... in the middle of the night.)
Orihime is abandoned. She is not invited to SS, she is not informed of what is going on, her son leaves her.... I...
Orihime is a side character. She doesn't matter anymore. She hasn't mattered for a long, long time.
A part of me is glad she had little screen time, since she tends to waste it, but another part of me is embroiled with rage.
I've even see people try to defend this. "Orihime and Ichigo can't be together ALL the time, that's an unhealthy relationship!" and I'm like guys... that's not the point. The point is Orihime is not part of Ichigo's other life. Any shinigami stuff from now on is none of her business. She's going to stay at home while Kazui and Ichigo go off and save the world. Ichigo is going to be fighting by Rukia and Renji while Orihime watches from the sidelines, or worse, doesn't even know what is going on with her husband and son. Orihime is going to be uninformed and abandoned, because she has not proven she is capable of fighting by their sides(go on, @ me. I will fight this. She's a failure.), and also because she prefers a human life over a dead one. Which is ironic, because she married a dead man. Ichigo is a shinigami, and he will be one forever. god forbid she ever meets his Zanpaktou. She would tremble in fear at the monsters her husband harbors in his soul, especially when she realizes they don't care about her and would rather see her dead. (Zangetsu would absolutely kill Orihime. Not sure about Kazui, but Orihime has not accepted Zangetsu, she does not like either of them, and the feeling is assuredly mutual.) frick now I want to make a comic about this
Also still frustrated over Zangetsu's shikai / bankai regression. Kubo once again lied to his audience. Ichigo has no bankai. How ridiculous is that? The main character of BLEACH doesn't have a bankai. Insulting.
(RIP to Chad. He doesn't exist anymore. He's just gone. No mention, no cameo. Gone.)
Kazui is a demon child. That character from the novels? Hikone? They're the same character. Literally same personality, same power level. Its worse because Kazui is a liar. He constantly goes behind his parents' backs. He can summon creepy fish and creepy eyeballs and open portals like is ANYONE aware of this? How has SS not kidnapped Ichigo's son and experimented on him / locked away his powers yet? All substitute shinigami require a reiatsu controlling / spy badge to keep them in line. Where is Kazui's? Or is he just a weird fullbringer?
I was worried Kubo was gonna try and pull a knock off Boruto but luckily he kept the focus on Ichigo and the others. But that being said, Ichika and Kazui are now just... sort of there? Kazui was kinda just.... having his own adventure that doesn't matter to the plot at hand, and Ichika had some nice characterization at first but she just hid behind her dad the whole time.
I have a feeling Kazui is gonna step in at the last minute or do some major behind the scenes thing that indirectly interferes with the main plot so no one will realize how powerful and dangerous he actually is. Its sad because Ichika is the superior character in personality and likability, but she clearly is not going to have a bigger part in this.
Ichigo having a normal life after everything still feels extremely boring and uncomfortable to me. Everyone's like 'I'm still bLEACH!" but.... BLEACH just... doesn't feel like BLEACH anymore. It hasn't for a while now.
~~~
There's two new shinigami characters. Didn't care for the girl, but the Sign Language kid who talks to animals is adorable ... however... he just reminds me of Chad, and I just... it hurts knowing Chad has essentially been deleted. Chad and Orihime are officially benched. They have chosen the human world, and Orihime has given Ichigo his spawn so she has no more use/purpose to him anymore... ////sigh
~~~
Also. This is claimed to be a new "arc". So is the BLEACH manga coming back? What is happening. I thought Kubo was tired and didn't want to do BLEACH anymore. I thought Shounen Jump cut him off. People made so many excuses for Kubo and why the past two arcs have been so badly written the past 6 years and now almost everything they've attempted to defend him with has been revoked.
BLEACH is going to continue to screw up its plot lines and characters, so Its probably best for it to stay dead but I've seen a lot of Kubo stans drooling over this content, they're desperate for BLEACH's return, but its already given out all its possible revelations. There's really nothing else to top here. It's just going to make things up as it goes along ,and I'm not really here for half-assed writing like that, especially since the damage of rushing the previous manga has already been done. Kubo and Shounen Jump are riding off a money nostalgia. None of this was planned.
Honestly though.... overall feeling of this chapter, not as bad as it could have been.
Syazel stole the spotlight, and he's my friend's favorite character, so that's all that really matters.

Manfred Von Karma Character Essay
Tumblr media
Dear Dakadondon,
Tumblr media
I’m going to give it a go on a character essay on my favorite villain, Manfred Von Karma. I haven’t been able to find any on him and I feel like he’s often overlooked as the nothing-but-evil villain when there is so much more to him than meets the eye.
When we are first introduced to Manfred Von Karma, he both is the final boss of the game and a foil for both Phoenix Wright and his rival, Miles Edgeworth. He represents the karma brought down upon Miles Edgeworth’s shoulders by his actions in the first game, thus his name “karma” or “ Karuma,” which means “karma” in Japanese. This works in the same way with Franziska Von Karma representing Phoenix Wright’s karma in AA2. Since we are focusing on Manfred Von Karma, he will be our main focus.
Tumblr media
We are introduced to Manfred Von Karma as Miles Edgeworth’s mentor, but it is in AA2 we find out he is much more than a mentor. He was also a father figure of sorts to Miles Edgeworth. This relationship is often overlooked, even by the game itself. We are told by Franziska Von Karma how Miles Edgeworth was like her little brother, but nowhere in the game does it ever mention or demonstrate how Miles Edgeworth would be the son of Manfred Von Karma. Even the anime never truly focuses on that portion. As a result, we, as the players, are like Godot in how we miss the obvious red on white part of the case, and instead focus on the mentor and student relationship.  Like anyone, why would we believe someone as twisted and vindictive as Manfred Von Karma would consider Miles Edgeworth as a son? Yet, this same man considered him the student under Von Karma? If Sebastian Debeste’s relationship with his father could be father/son and mentor/student, why wouldn’t the same also apply to Manfred Von Karma and Miles Edgeworth?
Tumblr media
To understand this father/son relationship Miles Edgeworth shares with Manfred Von Karma, we first need to understand why it is overlooked or taken out throughout the game. After losing his father, Miles Edgeworth practically lost everything. If we are to assume his father was the only family he ever had in his life, then this would mean he became an orphan. He was alone without anyone to care for or love him. All of a sudden, this Prosecutor, who had gone up against his father in court, takes him in under his wing. He gives Miles Edgeworth food, a home, a little sister, a family, education and training to become a Prosecutor. Before, Miles Edgeworth only had his father, now under the Von Karmas, he has a family. Manfred Von Karma gave Miles Edgeworth much more than his biological father ever did, when we take into account the mentioned family of Manfred Von Karma than just Franziska: a niece, a possible extra sibling(s) and a mother.
Tumblr media
In the head of Miles Edgeworth, he is not deserving of this. He mentally believes he is responsible for the murder of his own father. He isn’t deserving of a family, a home or any of these things. This is a similar mentality he will eventually have with Phoenix later on after Turnabout Goodbyes. In turn, we have Manfred Von Karma, who is simply using Miles and his genius to have as his own. He knows of his crime of having murdered this boy’s father and yet is willing to provide this boy with a better life. It feels off for Manfred Von Karma, if we were to assume he’s your typical devilish bad guy with no moral compass. Though, if we were to take AAI2 into account in how he praises his wife’s cooking, despite being an amateur, and was willing to defend Delicia Scone’s innocence for no other reason other than, “she is innocent,” we can assume he does have some form of moral compass. At the very least, he is capable of love for those he considers family and will protect those he considers innocent. If we are to assume that he does love his family, or at least is capable of such, we can assume that there was a tiny bit of compassion he had in taking in Miles Edgeworth. Even if we were to reason that Manfred Von Karma was simply using Miles Edgeworth to cover up his own crime, no one can deny that Manfred Von Karma could’ve made him into a Cinderella or killed him under his care.
Tumblr media
Of course, many would disagree this man would have a heart, if only because the game seems to imply that Manfred Von Karma took in Miles Edgeworth to beat the dead horse that was Gregory Edgeworth. Except, that would imply that Manfred Von Karma believes in spirits and was so passionate that he was willing to raise a child with severe trauma, nightmares and phobias. To put it simply, raising Miles Edgeworth, for Manfred Von Karma, would have been a nightmare in itself. Not only because he’d be having sleepless nights from a child, then teenager being up in the middle of the night because of nightmares, but also having to calm him down every time an earthquake hit, perhaps having to deal with Miles Edgeworth’s fear of elevators and there are the effects of DL-6 that took a toll on Miles Edgeworth. Anyone who knows anyone that deals with severe trauma will tell you that each day, minute and second that person is still living is a miracle. This is something Manfred Von Karma would be having to face every morning and night. For Miles Edgeworth, he believes he killed his own father and is not deserving of anything. Perhaps being a Prosecutor is his way of punishing himself, but it is also a goal he strives for that was placed upon him by Manfred Von Karma himself. You could say that Manfred Von Karma gave Miles Edgeworth a reason to live.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knowing this, it makes sense why Manfred Von Karma framed Miles Edgeworth for the murder of Robert Hammond. This wasn’t about him ruining Miles Edgeworth’s life or revenge against Gregory Edgeworth. This was Manfred Von Karma running away from his problems, from his own guilt. We see in Turnabout Reminiscence how quickly Manfred Von Karma was willing to leave an investigation unfinished the moment he loses control. If you were to fail that game, before Manfred Von Karma demands Miles Edgeworth and young Franziska to no longer proceed in the investigation, he will stop the investigation right away or Franziska will win. It’s only after he demands there to be no more investigation that he no longer stops the investigation, but instead it is Calisto Yew or Tyrell Badd, who at one point sends his security to kick Miles Edgeworth and Franziska out. This means that the reason Manfred Von Karma wanted Miles Edgeworth to stop the investigation was because he no longer had control over the outcome. This makes sense for his character, who also left IS-7 after the events of DL-6. He’s the kind of man to run away from his troubles. If Miles Edgeworth’s trauma was trouble for Manfred Von Karma that he can’t ever get rid of, he will proceed to get rid of Miles Edgeworth instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The problem with Manfred Von Karma framing Miles Edgeworth for murder is that this adds another problem. Miles Edgeworth is now the supposed son of Manfred Von Karma. Keep in mind this is a man who obsesses over perfection. To frame his own son for murder goes against being the perfect father. Aside from his own personal problems, Manfred Von Karma has no reason to get rid of Miles Edgeworth. Miles Edgeworth, while did suffer a few losses, is a valuable asset to Manfred Von Karma. He is Manfred Von Karma’s proud disciple and, if we were to assume he only has daughters, the only son he’s got. He is willing to throw away Miles Edgeworth, for what? Because of his own personal problems? Because he knows all of Miles Edgeworth’s troubles are caused by him? Because the only way to fix Miles Edgeworth is to admit that he was and is a terrible murderer and a criminal?
Tumblr media
Much like how Manfred Von Karma represented the karma built upon all the deeds Miles Edgeworth had done, the same can also be said in reverse. For Manfred Von Karma, Miles Edgeworth is the result of his own karma. That karma will never go away and, so long as Miles Edgeworth continues to live in the Prosecutor’s circle, the karma of Manfred Von Karma will haunt him for the rest of his life, unless he decides to find closure. Whether that closure be through death or reconnecting with Miles Edgeworth, unless it is met, Manfred Von Karma will always be troubled by the karma he’s placed upon himself.
Tumblr media
To describe Manfred Von Karma is someone that is obsessed with being perfect in every way to a fault. He has family, friends, people he loves and cares about, but is also a coward to face whatever troubles come his way. He is the opposite of Phoenix Wright, who is willing to face what he’s faulted and try to make things right. Manfred Von Karma represents a side to humanity none of us want to admit. We are very narcissistic and strive to be better than everyone else. Then, the moment we run into trouble where our true colors are shown, we tend to hide or run away like Manfred Von Karma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When you consider the events of IS-7, it’s clear Manfred Von Karma made many mistakes in how he approached the case. He refused help from his detective, he continually tried to fight against the Defense that he was right, he used threatening tactics to force the Defendant to confess to a crime he didn’t commit, he overlooked other crimes that happened such as the two missing boys, and he changed the case file to the Defendant being the culprit - even though he accused him of being an accomplice to the crime. While he didn’t forge the Autopsy Report, he placed the blame of the penalty he received from his boss on the Defense, who didn’t do anything wrong. To add insult to injury, he orphaned and traumatized a child that now is under his care. Manfred Von Karma continually ran away from his issues, the vile acts that he has done. As a result, he refuses to acknowledge Miles Edgeworth as his son. If he can’t acknowledge it, why should the game?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Manfred Von Karma is one of the most morally gray characters in the AA game. He represents the worst of all humanity. He’s definitely not one to sympathize with, but not because we can’t, but because we don’t want to. I consider the best villains as those you could become at any point in time. Someone like Kristoph Gavin or Dahlia Hawthorne would be much harder to see in ourselves, since their circumstances came from other bad circumstances. Manfred Von Karma, I can see in anyone no matter the circumstances or life they live. So long as you believe yourself to be better than anyone else, you will always become another Manfred Von Karma.
Tumblr media
Ironically enough, I do see a redemption arc in Manfred Von Karma, if he was to ever live after Turnabout Goodbyes. The reason is because, believe it or not, I did have issues with Narcissism about ten or so years ago. Of course, I wasn’t as bad as Manfred Von Karma, but I can also relate to him. As such, I also know that it only takes seeing yourself as better than everyone else to void yourself of all empathy or compassion for others. This also includes thinking your opinions are correct or others’ opinions are problematic. All it takes for a redemption arc is realizing where you’re wrong, apologizing, and making things right. Of course, you can’t erase your history, but you can make a better future, especially for those you have hurt. Luckily, we have Franziska Von Karma and Miles Edgeworth to demonstrate what Manfred Von Karma could’ve been.

ok but hear me out: ace attorney au!!!!
hange as young, bright-eyed lawyer fresh out of the law school and erwin as a senior partner at the firm, who teaches hange everything he knows.
the first case hange tackles on her own is the murder of woman. hange's childhood friend mike is the sole suspect and so hange is determined as ever to prove that he's innocent.
despite the lack of other suspects and evidence, hange is sure that she can win this case.
that is until she meets the prosecutor - a young man named levi ackerman, who is one of the best and most ruthless prosecutors. in the three years that he'd been working he had a perfect win record in trials.
but it's not levi's fame that worries hange. no, it's the fact that levi ackerman - ace prosecutor as they call him - was hange's best friend once.
they've been joined at the hip ever since they've met in elementary school. but when levi's mother died, he had to move away. hange lost contact with him after that, but she had never forgotten her best friend. more than that, levi was actually one of the reasons why she chose to go to the law school, since she remembered that he dreamed of becoming a lawyer like his mother.
confusing and conflicting feelings cloud hange's mind as she tries to make sense of levi's cold attitude and his refusal to admit their past friendship. and with a trial awaiting her, hange has to put her personal investment aside and focus on a case, so she could defend her client and save mike.
surprising everyone in court, hange proves mike's innocence. it's her first victory as a lawyer. and levi's first defeat as a prosecutor. after the trial, hange approaches levi, but he refuses to talk with her and shuts down every attempt of rekindling their friendship. he tells hange that his defeat was an accident and that it would never be repeated again. and even though, his words are cruel, his face doesn't show even an ounce of emotion, and hange, who used to be so good at understanding levi, can't read him at all. hange tries to get to him many times after that, but levi is unrelenting.
when hange takes her second case, she's once again pitted against levi, and, again, she wins. after that trial, levi is the one who approaches hange. he tells her to stop this, to stop trying to be friends again. he tells hange that because of her he is "saddled with unnecessary feelings... unease and uncertainty".
hange doesn't want to give up on her friend, but if levi doesn't need her friendship, then she's not going to force it on him.
she tries to forget him and continue with her work. she almost succeeds at that, until one day she turns on the news and finds out that there had been a murder. and the main suspect is none other than prosecutor levi ackerman. she rushes to him and finds out that levi doesn't have a lawyer because no one wants to work for him. hange begs him to let her take his case, and levi who has no other choice and who doesn't trust anyone as much as he trusts hange, agrees.
and in the process of working together, trying to solve the case side by side, hange and levi remember how good does it feel to be together again

and when the seasons change (will you stand by me?)
read on ao3 • main masterlist • law school masterlist
summary: when kang sol's mother has to work late, she has to take care of byeol. it's just her luck that she has an exam the next day, one for professor yang of all people. joon hwi, being the kind classmate he is, offers to study with her.
or: byeol is solhwi mastermind, and she's says everything we wanted to say to the two dummies.
request by anon: hiya! saw that you do solhwi prompts so I was thinking that Sol A has to babysit byeol but there's a big test the next day so she calls joon hwi over to help her w studying. meanwhile byeol(being iconic) tries to set them up in true shipper fashion.
a/n: this is based on a request i got on tumblr, pictured above! i have around 5 (ish) fics that will go out over the week so stay tuned for those lmao! uh yeah, i don't really know what else to say other than im really sad law school ended so i've just been sad and mopey, but still writing to fill that hole. as always, enjoy <333
Although Joon Hwi was the 'star' student of Hankuk Law School, he was never much for studying. It's not because everything came to him that easily, but because finding the strength to concentrate and study when he could be hanging out with his friends or doing anything better with his time was insanely tempting. Finding the effort to get to the library, and read up on his textbooks was arduous and he always found it easier to study by himself, no distractions around. This was, of course, until Kang Sol came along. For Joon Hwi, everything in his life was turned on its axis when she came into his life.
When he first met her, in Professor Yang's class, she was just the poor girl being grilled by the professor. His heart went out to her, watching her pull her hair out of the bun to avoid the question. He didn’t know what possessed him to answer for her, but he assumed it to be a one time thing. But from the moment she crashed into him yelling "Second Round Judicial Exam, save me!", he was stuck on her.
Slowly, she was everywhere in his life, from the study group to the legal clinic to a majority of his classes. Unlike so many of his classmates, who were by the book and generally clinical in personality, she was a fireball of energy and passion. In class, despite not being the best student, she would argue with so much passion and energy that it was impossible to win against her. It was fascinating, watching her connect and jump from case to case. She would throw herself into everything she believed in, which included defending him from the school and his uncle.
Joon Hwi has liked girls before, but he's never been so captivated and head-over-heels for anyone in his life. Love and dating seemed secondary, and he preferred to keep it out of his life until he reached his goals. You could call him selfish but he prefers to call it being focused on his goals. He's always had one goal in life, and it was to work with the law, whether as a judge or working as police or as a prosecutor.
Yet, if Kang Sol was in the room, his eyes were on her. Whether she was frustrated at him or teasing him or gleeful with him, he couldn't help but smile at her. If she was around, he was right by her side, making her laugh or cringe or annoyed.
So there he was, studying in the school library with Kang Sol. Professor Yang’s exam was right around the corner and unlike last time, he cannot miss the comma in the given case. Plus, he doesn’t even have the excuse of being accused of a murder this time, so both Sol and Joon Hwi were hunched over their books, pouring into the texts when Kang Sol’s phone blared loudly from her bag, startling them both.
Sol cringed as she dug around in her cloth bag, the classic dirty looks tossed her way by the sleep deprived students as she stood to leave the library and take the call. He buried himself back into the textbook, but the concentration was lost and he was more interested in the call she’d gotten than ins and outs of defamation laws.
Around 10 minutes later, Sol was speeding back to her chair, the phone clutched firmly in her hand. But Joon hwi could see her frustration from a mile away. Her face held that pout, her eyebrows furrowed and grumbling under her breath. It was adorable.
But he was worried, considering it was the day before the exam, Sol couldn’t afford to be distracted from her studies. He wasn’t blind to her struggles in school, but Joon Hwi never considered her lesser than him for not being able to pick up the concepts with speed.
Unlike him, and a majority of his classmates, she had passion and a heart when dealing with clients. He could see it in her mannerisms with clients in the legal clinic, patiently explaining the clause or the issues they might face to the client. She’s sympathetic to the max, always hearing out the client’s grievances before making a judgement on what they had done. She was exactly what the world needed: a sympathetic, patient lawyer that was willing to fight for the client, someone that they can cling to. He and every professor in the school knew it, but it seemed Sol was the only one who never realized how essential she was.
Suddenly, he felt himself getting up to gather his materials with her without a second thought, despite the confused look Sol shot him. He wasn’t sure what exactly possessed him to do it, but he knew that if she wasn’t there, he didn’t want to study at the library either. Grinning at her, he walked out, side by side until they were outside the quiet library. She paused in her tracks all of a sudden, taking him by surprise and he paused too, looking back at her, tilting his head in confusion.
"My mom needs to work late today, so I need to rush home and take care of Byeol," she looked up at him finally, her face apologetic. "I'm sorry, Joon hwi but I don't think I'll be able to study for the exam with you," she started to walk away, but he couldn't let her go that easily.
"I'll come with you," he offered, surprising himself, "I'll study with you. Plus, it'll be easier to take care of Byeol with two people than one, right?"
She paused, looking back at him, conflicted. Sighing, Joon Hwi stepped closer to her. "Come on, let's not keep her waiting. Shall we?" He was determined to keep her company, especially since she’d have less time to study since she’d have to take care of Byeol. It was easier this way, and I’d do this for any friend he told himself.
The ride there was slow and quiet, but not an uncomfortable one. They both walked in tandem, with their backpacks filled with everything they'd possibly need to study, and even the bus ride was peaceful, the two of them staring out the window, watching the scenery pass by them. Joon hwi sat beside her, rather than across from her like last time, just to save space on the bus. On the very empty bus they were riding together.
Days like this, where the air was heavy and humid, the earth preparing for a heavy rain, were the most comforting types of days. The air was still warm and humid, making Sol’s hair poof out slightly, her naturally wavy hair frizzing out of her bun. The feeling of her beside him, as if this was a regular ritual for both of them, brought a sense of content in his heart. He couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was, whether it was the girl beside him or the past year’s chaos, but watching the trees and the traffic pass by them brought more peace to his life than ever.
The two made their way into the alleyway, where Joon hwi had once stood guard of when Lee Man Ho once lived, threatening her family. He's standing in front of Kang Sol's house behind her, holding her backpack in hand as she struggles with the keys.
Finally, finally, she gets the door open, and a figure zips by, crashing into Sol. Byeol’s arms wrapped Sol's waist, like the adorable sister she is. Sol stumbled back into him slightly at the sudden weight thrown onto her, but nonetheless, crouched to envelop her sister in a bone-crushing hug. Joon hwi couldn’t help but smile at the two sisters, their love for each other enveloping him
"Unnie!" she grinned up at her, "Did you bring him with you?" Her eyes were serious and wide as Sol opened her mouth to answer.
"Byeol-ah!" Joon hwi yelled out from behind Sol, peaking out to see the 8-year old grinning at him, much wider than she did at Sol. Ha!
"Joonhwi-oppa!" the girl squealed out, leaving Sol's grip to run to him. As she ran to him, he picked her up and twirled her in the air, the girl's giggles echoing through the small alleyway as the two greeted each other.
Sol, standing by the door, smiled faintly before calling out, "Come in, before either of you catch a cold!" Both of them filed in, incessantly chattering as if they hadn't seen each other in months, even though it had only been two weeks since Joon hwi had been by to take the two sisters out to the park.
"Oppa! Why did you come with Unnie?" Byeol asked, finally being set down inside the house, looking up at him curiously as Sol
"Ah, we have an exam tomorrow, so I'm here to study with her," Joon hwi replied.
"Good," the girl jumped onto the couch. "Unnie needs a lot of help," the girl quipped back, nodding her head solemnly, making her look a lot older than 8 years.
"Yah Kang Byeol!" Sol exclaimed, indignantly. Joon hwi chuckled at the two as Sol turned to him. "Here, we can work in the dining room," she moved to grab her backpack from him, stepping towards the dining room.
"NO!" Byeol yelled out at the both of them, her hand flying out to stop the two of them, "Unnie, you should work in your room instead! You know I'll be watching TV and obviously, it'd be too loud for you to focus," the girl rushed out, her doe-eyes a bit too wide, her voice a little too innocent. She is definitely plotting something, Joon hwi narrowed his eyes at her but she avoided the look, choosing to jump off the couch and walk towards them instead.
Before either of them could protest, the girl pushed the both of them towards, presumably, Kang Sol's bedroom. Sol awkwardly laughed at him, Joon hwi shooting her an amused look. They awkwardly stood in her room, Joon hwi avoiding her gaze and choosing to look at the walls instead. Her room here looked similar to the one she had back on campus. Her desk was stacked to the max, sticky notes lining the walls with old reminders and little notes of encouragement. It was neat, but brightly colored, which suited Sol so very well.
“Let’s get started shall we?” Sol finally said, clearing her throat, gesturing for him to set down his books. He obliged, sitting at her desk while she chose her bed. They both set up all their materials, the awkward silence shifting into a peaceful one, the two working themselves into a comfortable rhythm.
It had been almost an hour of straight studying, both of them regurgitating criminal codes and case precedents from memory. Joon hwi was sure that by this point that his mind was complete mush, and Sol was starting to wither, her eyes almost glazed over while she started into one of her casefiles. Her hair was a lot puffier than it was when they started. Turns out, Sol had a habit of ruffling her hair with her pencil each time she was confused or working herself too hard, which was often.
“Let’s take a break shall we? I’m going to get a glass of water,” he said, standing up and stretching his arms out, trying to put the two out of their misery. He yawned, the stiffness in his muscles finally noticeable when he stretched out. She nodded back to him, yawning and stretching out in her chair, before she picked up her phone to check some messages.
He walked out of her room and back to the living room, where byeol was still glued to her seat, her eyes on the TV playing some cartoon. Heading over to the dining table, he poured himself a glass of water with the pitcher, before heading back to check on Byeol.
“What’s this show called?” he asked her, taking a sip of the water while watching the show with her.
“Hm?” Byeol turned to him, “Oh, it’s this show about two kids who set out to find a treasure mapped out by their parents,” she explained, gesturing towards him to take a seat beside him. He obliged, opting to sit beside the girl, both their eyes glued to the screen. A few moments passed by, before the little girl turned towards him.
“You know, my sister’s favorite color is dark green. Not like emerald green, but forest green tinted with some dark blue,” Byeol said nonchalantly. Joon Hwi’s eyebrows furrowed, confused as to why the girl is telling this to him. “And, her favorite ice cream is this nutella infused one that you get down the street, closer to the town square. It’s been her favorite since she was little,” she continued, not giving his confusion any heed. The girl rapidly started telling him facts about her dear sister, all the while confusion took over his features.
“Joonhwi-oppa,” she squinted at him, pausing as her face grew serious, “You like my sister, don’t you?” He sputtered, choking and coughing out the water. “I knew it!” she excitedly squealed.
“Byeol, byeol, shh, you can’t let your sister know okay,” he brought a finger to his lips, his eyes alarmed. For an 8 year old, Byeol was surprisingly cunning and observant. She had managed to figure out what he had been struggling with for the past year after just a few short visits. They shared a look of understanding between the two, before the girl turned her attention to the show, leaving Joon Hwi walking back to Sol’s room. The Kang Sisters,  he shook his head, laughing as he thought, what a perfect duo.
bonus
It had been almost 3 hours of studying together before Kang Sol realized that the sun had set outside, and all of a sudden, they were in a rush to clean up. Joon hwi had to leave before the dorms closed entrance and because of their studying, the two of them had their head buried in books since the time they got to her house.
She was glad to have him over though. Despite her hesitation at the school and fears of inconveniencing him, having Joon hwi made the process a lot smoother. With his careful and gentle help, she had a much easier time understanding the concepts and she was eternally grateful, considering Professor Yang’s exams were always some of the toughest.
They were rushing out of the house, his backpack in her hand as he hurriedly put on his shoes and stepped outside the house. But before Joon hwi could turn with a hurried goodbye, she called out to him, her breath suddenly lodged in her throat.
“Thank you,” she quietly told him, the prospect of looking into his eyes as he leaned over her doorstep daunting. “Thank you for helping me, Joon hwi, it was really kind of you,” she beamed at him, trying to convey her gratitude and more in the only way she knew possible.
They both paused, looking at each other as the air got thicker between them, as if a string was drawing him closer to her. She watched as he swallowed slightly, his adam’s apple moving slightly before he let out a soft “You’re welcome,” and a classic smile, before he rushed out, trying to catch his bus.
She sighed, watching him as he rushed off, capturing the bus. Soon, she thought, Soon, I’ll tell him how I feel. She reassured herself, turning around only to find Byeol hiding behind a pillar.
“Byeol? What are you doing, weren’t you watching a show?” she questioned her sister, but Byeol made no response. Suddenly her sister frowned at her, muttering something about how can she possibly be a lawyer and she’s so blind, leaving her in utter confusion at the front steps.

OKAY SO.
The thing is that To Kill a Mockingbird and Fullmetal Alchemist are both fundamentally the story of a kid growing up and realizing the horrors their society is guilty of. (Technically it’s a pair of siblings in both, but Scout and Ed’s perspectives are focused on way more than Jem or Al’s respectively.) In To Kill a Mockingbird it’s the racism of the 1930s South which leads to an innocent Black man being wrongfully convicted and eventually killed, and in Fullmetal Alchemist it’s Ed slowly learning the truth about the Ishvalan genocide.
And a common criticism of both of these works is, why tell it from that perspective? If these are supposed to be stories about racism, or about genocide, why is the main character a privileged white kid? Why do the characters from the actual oppressed group get so little chance to speak for themselves, and why are they handled so arguably problematically in both stories? (I think TKaM seems to get these criticisms far more than FMA, which is perhaps unfair since Harper Lee was writing in the 1950s, and at least didn’t make her main marginalized character a murderous vigilante. The counterpoint would be to say that Scar may be more Problematique(TM) but he’s also more of a fleshed-out character than Calpurnia or Tom Robinson, but I’m not sure it entirely balances out.)
And I think these criticisms are accurate, but I also think they’re an inevitable result of the fact that neither Harper Lee nor Hiromu Arakawa knew what it was like to be part of the victimized group. In the case of TKaM, it’s very literally based on Harper Lee’s childhood in 1930s Alabama, including partially on an actual court case in which her father defended two Black men accused of murdering a white storekeeper, who were both ultimately hanged. FMA is obviously not literally based on Arakawa’s childhood in the same way, but it’s well known that it’s inspired by the history of Japanese imperialism, particularly the treatment of the indigenous Ainu people in Hokkaido, where she grew up. As she notes in this interview “My ancestors were farmers and homesteaders who displaced Ainu and stole their land from them. But ironically enough, some of my own relatives have Ainu blood in them.” (I suspect, given the fantasy-German setting and the obvious Holocaust parallels, that it’s also Arakawa’s way of grappling with the fact that the Japanese were allied with the Nazis in WW2, but I don’t know if she’s ever said as much in an interview.) So it’s not hard to imagine that Edward Elric’s journey of realizing just what his society is guilty of is similar to the one Arakawa must have had as she learned more about the history of imperial Japan.
So both of these authors, I think, are reflecting the journey they went on growing up rather than putting themselves in the shoes of the oppressed. At the end of the day Harper Lee didn’t know what it was like to be a Black person in the 1930s South, and Hiromu Arakawa didn’t know what it was like to be a survivor of genocide. Either of them could, potentially have tried to write from that perspective and do it justice, but I suspect the results would have been even more problematic than what we currently have if they’d tried.
So both works are ultimately flawed and imperfect in how they tackle these issues, because they’re ultimately written from the perspective of someone privileged, and arguably focus far more on the privileged characters than on the oppressed group. And I think both can be criticized for a perhaps overly-idealistic outlook, which (not incorrectly) focuses a lot on the need to treat everyone with equal respect and compassion, but sometimes sugarcoats or glosses over structural inequalities in the process. But at the same time I think showing a privileged kid coming to terms with what it means to live in a society with blood on their hands, and how your privilege in a sense makes you complicit in those horrors, is a necessary story to tell in itself. And it’s perhaps for the best that Harper Lee and Hiromu Arakawa both chose to tell that story (even if they didn’t necessarily tell it perfectly) - the story they lived, the story they knew - and not a story that, had they attempted it, they might well have done far less justice.

ooooh i'd love to hear your thoughts on an rqg and stormlight crossover!
absolutely.
(send me 2+ fandoms and i’ll give you thoughts on crossing them over)
okay so first of all I’ve thought about this just a little already, in that i saw a significant link between zolf’s new ethos, the whole not-hope what-comes-next thing, and the first ideal, especially as presented in Oathbringer. The radiant orders in general actually feel like... especially codified paladins/clerics, where you get powers in exchange for subscribing to a certain set of ideals.
so i cheated a little and consulted a conversation i had on the rqbb server about radiant orders for the party; using that plus this radiant order guide, i came up with the following:
sasha’s an edgedancer. this is the one i’m most sure about; the slid-ey powers fit, but ‘remembering those who’ve been forgotten’ is also very sasha, especially with her Good End being starting an orphanage. plus she just has The Vibe, you know?
grizzop would make sense as a skybreaker, extremely lawful good and focused on justice, defending the innocent and punishing the guilty. also the idea of him being able to fly brings the chaos gremlin in me joy.
I’d make hamid a dustbringer, honestly because the description in the link above fits the narrative i’d like him to have, regarding the importance of responsibility and self-mastery as one’s destructive power grows.
cel i’m less confident on, but i think i’d go with willshaper; there’s a focus on personal freedom and self-expression, liberation from tyranny, and the order also has an association with creators. (if ppl have thoughts on this lmk because i dont have that great of a handle on cel tbh)
sidenote, skraak would definitely be a willshaper too.
azu is... difficult. i want her to have regrowth as a surge because i feel like healing is a really important thing for her, and she does kinda vibe as an edgedancer... but the stonewards’ focus on dependability and team dynamics, their refusal to bend their ideals, and even just the minor bits like interest in athletics just really fits for her, so i’d have to go with that. i guess kaladin has healing as a central part of his character without it being a surge, so... yes. stoneward. go read the description, the more i think about this the more it seems Correct.
and finally, zolf. the source of so many headaches, i do not understand this man. i can kinda see him as a windrunner, stoneward, skybreaker, or bondsmith, but i’m not confident with any of them. i would lean toward bondsmith just because both the source above and the textual evidence we have with dalinar and navani suggest that bondsmiths are hard to categorize, as far as values, other than them being leaders.
but the question of zolf brings me to a big question-- would they all be radiants? i think they would all have the potential, certainly, any one of them has enough bullshit in the backstory to have cracks that would allow a nahel bond, and enough determination to speak the first ideal and mean it. but that doesn’t mean they’d all attract/bond spren, and i havent even decided how, if at all, i’m dealing with the whole humans vs. singers thing.
(adding a readmore discussing where i see zolf going bc it’s getting long)
but, uh, here’s something rough: i think zolf would pull a baby-shallan and kill his first spren. probably, this would be a highspren; early zolf is very strongly dedicated to the idea of an unbendable truth, divine justice. and i think his point of breaking might even be similar to his questioning of poseidon in canon, because stormlight/cosmere actually engages with the question of “how does someone become a god,” and the answer is “by killing the old one” which very much would not qualify them to be an arbiter of justice in zolf’s eyes.
i think stormlight!zolf would find out that honor is dead, along with the revelation about humans being the invaders (if that’s still what’s going on in this crossover), and have a paris-equivalent breakdown about what ‘the right thing’ or ‘justice’ even mean. he wouldn’t believe in his ideals anymore, he’d ‘kill’ his spren, and that would make his spiral a lot worse.
i’m not sure what would happen from there.
it’s possible that he’d wake his highspren again by speaking a higher ideal the way kaladin does, though i’m still not perfectly clear on the mechanics of that; zolf actually does still have the dedication to punishing the guilty, he just doesn’t look for an external code as the source of justice anymore, and that’s actually consistent with some higher skybreaker ideals. but he doesn’t really vibe with the whole ‘order and codified law’ thing.
i can see him returning as a bondsmith, but in an awkward sort of situation similar to navani’s, where the spren isn’t fully comfortable with him and he’s doing it largely out of need. but also i don’t want that for him?? his turn in canon to the new source of power feels like it was good for him, and i’d want to do something equivalent, and this feels like it would be almost self-destructive.
but as i was noodling around on the orders explanation page, i noticed this in the description of bondsmiths: “Beyond that, many of the retinues that protected the Bondsmiths were considered members of the Order–going so far as to swear oaths, even though they didn’t have a spren and never would. Some even called this the most pure form of being a Radiant, because these were oaths sworn not in the name of gaining powers, but simply for the good of the oaths themselves.”
and my brain lit up at that, bc you know whose arc is about growing as a person and dedicating themselves to uniting people and leading? wilde. so i’m imagining wilde becoming a bondsmith, and zolf not bonding a new spren but swearing the first ideal in spirit because that is genuinely what he believes, and just being part of wilde’s team, keeping him safe as a regular human/maybe having some squire powers.
WELL i’ve done a lot of thinking about orders and almost none about plot or even actual character backstories, but I’ve spent a while on this. i’m very likely to come back to this because rqg is definitely my current Main Fandom and (as you can tell from the url) the cosmere is my beloved, so... yes.

ATTWN: A Look at Miss Brent
I keep circling around the idea of writing And Then There Were None meta, like a full, proper analysis of the novel, but I just can't settle down on how to do it, cause I do have many thoughts, but I can't seem to organise them in a way it will make sense. But-
I was thinking about Miss Brent today, and she's not exactly a character I have that many thoughts compared to Vera or Armstrong, but she certainly has my interest. What strikes me stronger about her is her complacency, in a way.
Let's look at the novel first: here's this sixty-something woman, a spinster who takes on girls from local charities/orphanages to train them into proper maids or whatever. It's not an unusual thing for that time based on the rest of Christie's novels, it seemed like a common occurrence for the period. At any rate, she's very righteous, uptight, her belief is almost borderline fanatical, she never hesitates over her "innocence" in front of the accusations, and the thing is: she doesn't deny shunning the girl away.
Unlike the others, who remain resilient on their innocence (Lombard the exception cause he literally confessed right away), Miss Brent never denies that she did refuse to help Beatrice. In her own mind, she didn't do anything wrong - and if we're going there, in its fucked up way, she technically didn't do anything wrong. She had no familial attachment to the girl, she didn't have to do anything for her legally speaking; morally, of course, she should have but we don't arrest people for being morally corrupt lmao Let alone death sentence them. *coughs*
But what gets me it's her complacency. You know, I'm blaming this on the windy day, but thinking about her, sitting by herself almost all the time (including when she died), she never does anything. Unlike the others, Vera included considering how Christie often writes the women isolated, Miss Brent never gets involved in either investigating or helping them to find a way out; she just sits and knits and eventually bosses Vera around or say some mean stuff to someone. She doesn't act, which is odd for us as a reader; I mean, if I was in her spot I would have already made a signal for help, even with the bad weather lmao This book heavily traumatised me anyway--
Miss Brent doesn't act, that's my main point. In her head, I suppose she expects some sort of divine intervention, in its way; not a miracle, but you know, she expected her righteousness guaranteed her safety. She sees the other deaths as punishment, she thinks them all guilty, perhaps not the General or Wargrave, but I've no doubt she considers the rest of them wicked and deserving of the punishment, but never herself. She didn't do anything wrong, she has got nothing to feel sorry for. There is a whole section, where Vera asks Miss Brent if she is not afraid or if she simply doesn't mind dying. To which she reacts exactly like I said before, like she was above them all, like death wouldn't come for her.
Now, I will just vaguely go over the show because I think their choice of handling her was an interesting one. I like most of the choices made by show, except the ending which I'll save for another day of ranting, but Miss Brent in the show behaves similarly, but her background gets deeper. For one there was two key things - I say two because I've seen two different interpretations of this - and they were 1) repressed lesbian and 2) predator. Now, these two could coexist with each other, she could have been taking in girls to take advantage of them, but I don't know, I think it would be hard for her to do that always, so I like to think if repressed lesbian was it, then it makes more sense for her crime and her reaction. It would be related to a feeling of betrayal - "I've given you a home, a job, affection and you still went behind my back to be a whore" - and it's something Miss Brent would probably not acknowledge. She was always too religious, too righteous, so Beatrice probably haunted her more in death than she did in life: no one would believe this ragged girl over any accusations - even if there was consent on her part. But that's just beside the point.
What I mean for the show is, they go in a different direction. Miss Brent's reactions over the murders are a little more in line with her religious dynamic for the show: when Tony dies, she makes a little prayer, she worries about Mrs. Rogers state when she sees her passed out (despite the fact she humiliated her earlier over being meek and weak and so on), she has a judgemental attitude towards Vera, but even that comes from a place of almost understanding? She still judges them harshly, but she is a lot less harsh to the ones she consider less harmful (aka she is absolutely distasteful about Lombard, whose crime is easily the worst crime in the show and she thinks so).
Of course, all of her views and beliefs and behaviours are based on her own lifestyle, so she is a bit blind and biased - when Lombard points out about the missionaries crimes in Africa, after she calls him out; or when she states she couldn't imagine crossing paths with a man like him, despite the fact she knows well enough they're all there because they're guilty - so she is bound to hypocrisy every now and again. But her fanaticism from the book is turned into a proper, religious attitude; she does abide by the Bible, she condemns very little her other companions (I mean, she still judges Vera over her youth and her inertia, she judges Armstrong's lack of calm, she judges Lombard because well, because of his Existence™ lmao) She is, of course, judgmental and vain and arrogant, but this is less cartoony and more realistic. More importantly, because her beliefs are much more ingrained in her life, she is afraid. She is genuinely afraid and that is an important, key change that I genuinely like.
Miss Brent has faith, at first, that they will leave the Island, so she stills acts very coldly at first and of course, she still denies her guilt, she still claims she did the right thing and Beatrice caused her own undoing. But, the show pursues the idea that Miss Brent, upon being reminded of the event, starts to feel guilt: when she is praying she hallucinates Beatrice (hallucionation was a choice they did to convey these feelings, but you could just claim that's a memory in her head); and more importantly, before her death - which happens the day after she hallucinates - her demeanor changes entirely. She goes from trying to stay calm and resolute before the tide, to feeling weary. That's important because unlike Book! Emily, she is fully aware she has committed a sin, and now whether that is her neglect of Beatrice's pleas or her own feelings for her, that's beside the point. The point is this woman realises she is very close to meet her maker and the burden of having sinned wears her down.

Miss Brent also adds "It's only wool" when Vera is pouring her coffee (which I had to crop cause Gif size), which is her redirecting her distress to something mundane (in another scene later, Vera mentions how doing the dishes is a mundane task, which she finds soothing. In fact, seeking a sense of normalcy is a recurring theme for the show, but also for the book) and ordinary. Vera, of course, notices her distress over being hunted; she shares the feeling, and I don't want to focus too much on Vera because I'll talk about her eventually later, but this shows how Miss Brent changes drastically.
On their first conversation after the dinner, Vera's impression of Miss Brent is of an uptight, self-righteous, straight-up cruel woman and she avoids her if she can help it, and truth be told, Miss Brent does act very badly and says bad things, Vera is not being touchy about it. So when Vera lays the coffee tray, she is ready to walk away before Miss Brent addresses her (she even makes a dry remark on "There is no milk, I'm afraid", which is meant to spite Miss Brent's earlier attitude over asking for perfect eggs after Mrs Rogers died and so on), and Miss Brent talks so unlike herself, a weariness that makes Vera reconsider and come back, to pour her coffee. She feels sorry for Miss Brent, because she finally cracked like the others; Miss Brent knows now that no amount of faith might defend her from this killer, because this killer has got nothing to do with a justice kill.
She stays seated, knitting again, but when she reaches for the coffee she hesitates. She realises Vera could have poisoned it (before entering the room, since she watches Vera pouring the coffee), and then she puts it down. There is a sense of danger in her, and she has no desire to die, unlike in the book where she so casually just stays behind, unafraid in her own attitude of superiority. I like this change a lot; I think showing her fear before her God enhances her religious mania a lot more, because she truly fears Divine Judgement, because she understands, deep down, that she did a bad thing; maybe not murder - I mean, it wasn't murder after all - but she still did a morally bad thing. If there is a Heaven, it won't be for her.
