i recently went on a date w a man who is 6'3 and that gavae me new angles to work with.

Its probably a lot of him placing his head on the top of your head

Wrapping his arms around your shoulders or under your arms and interlocking his fingers

As everyone can guess this man is like a radiator, between him just being a bigger guy and the fact he always has some sort of sweat wear (shirt or pants or both) he runs a bit warm.

However his hands are always cold.

He uses this against you at every chance.

for example: Every time you guys are laying on the couch he put his hands under your shirt, claiming that he didn't know how cold his hands were; where in reality he knew how absolutely freezing they were and wanted to see you jump bc he's nice like that.

On that note he absolutely loves when there is some kind of skin to skin contact between the two of you.

Running his finger tips lightly up and down the skin that peaks out from your shirt or lazily drawing shapes against the skin of your thighs

It would be more then acceptable to not speak to each other for hours, as long as he was behind you on couch and you were sat between his legs: he would have one of his arms wrapped around you the other on the side of the couch looking on his phone

When he sleeps he can't help but subconsciously pull you closer, if you shift ever so slightly away from him he just pulls you tighter against him. even if it's the dead heat of the summer time, he doesn't care that's what expensive AC is for

tHis favorite way to wake up is you wrapped in his arms with Jambo laying in front of you and the other cat (which I'm affectionately calling soda) laying on top of Schlatt and your entangled legs.

Is it just me or does shin hati lacks personality?

i think it’s pretty obvious i don’t think of Shin as lacking in personality. i love what i’ve seen of her so far - think Ivanna is absolutely killing it with her performance so far, playing this mixture of intensity and homegrown Jedi calm, of a girl who is very alone and also trying to hold herself away from caring about anyone she might have to kill. i mean, i don’t know why you think she has no personality (i’d be interested in hearing your reasons) but to me she’s a fantastic character. if you know me you know that it takes A LOT for me to write fic for a character or a ship. so if wolfwren has moved me, i can pretty much guarantee i don’t sell out for looks with no personality.

but let me actually explain why i like Shin

firstly, she’s had very little screen time, to the extent i’ve probably got gifs of every frame of her so far on my blog. meanwhile Sabine has all of Rebels, Ahsoka has The Clone Wars, and Huyang is, frankly, a very typical example of a speaking droid. reminds me of c3po (i think he’s great, just not original characterisation). and they’ve all had more screen time in these four eps than Shin, who nonetheless has, in my opinion, demonstrated tremendous presence in every single scene she’s appeared in.

how she shows up on Lothal, stands there and says in her maddeningly calm tone, “we’ve been looking for this.” it’s just… so tongue-in-cheek, and Shin could so easily have sic’d the droid on Sabine and made her escape, could have smacked her against a wall with the Force and strolled away. but she chooses to stay. and the way she dances around Sabine’s blows… grabs the hilt of her saber to manipulate her in the fight, putty in her hands. flips her over her shoulder and plays plays plays with her… the grace and the wildness and the strange fascination of their fight. god she’s just!! so intriguing.

i think people pay too little attention to how much characterisation there is in a fight scene. we have Sabine fighting with a style that’s very much a mesh of form 1 and form 3. it’s defensive, it has hints of Ahsoka in it, her own modified and slightly more useful variation of Soresu (form 3) and then we have Shin. i need to examine her moves more closely to tell what forms (i think definitely forms plural) she’s drawing from - not much makashi, which makes sense since Baylan is Jedi-trained. her movements remind me of Maul’s style in The Phantom Menace, but there’s an element to her style that feels more… joyful, freeform, free verse.

she spins and pirouettes and barely avoids the cut of Sabine’s lightsaber. there’s relish in those movements. she can clearly block blaster bolts magnificently, has the athletic and acrobatic ability for ataru (the form yoda favours, and anakin to an extent). she’s a muddle of contradictions. silent so often but when she fights, when she flies that fighter…she’s golden.

and wry, too. watch for those slight smiles. the “you almost got them” and her hop-skip in the forest on Seatos, the “hello there” energy reminding me so much of Obi-Wan. and then her obvious terror when the Inquisitor falls, spewing green smoke. at the time i thought she was afraid for herself, of Ahsoka, but she was really afraid for Baylan. he’s trying to be a Jedi Master to her - there’s distance in their relationship, and GOD you can see her longing for contact, for touch, for something she can push and feel pushing back.

i think it’s why she antagonizes Morgan, why she waits to duel Sabine. she wants to… touch something and not just in a physical sense but in terms of connection. the light is so much about embracing life and i think of Shin trapped in the middle of that, not good or evil, light or dark, but caught in a terrible silence. her care and her fire is contained but it burns. especially when she fights, when she loses her temper “you have no power”, choking Sabine at the end, and that’s just the fire that creeps out under the door! beware the smoke.

the moments of fear, of guarded concern, of delight and fascination, anger and joy. i mean!! she’s a girl of few words, but when she speaks she SPEAKS. and when she doesn’t you can see so much going on in her body language, her face, her eyes, her actions. i think both of her fight scenes are beautiful examples of character through conflict.

i always use duels and fights for character-building. a fight is boring with nothing behind it - and with Shin we see, at first, fascination. wanting to prove herself, to show she’s the better padawan, but she also… i think she could have killed Sabine very easily. i would have run from Ahsoka too, but she honestly could have murdered Sabine right there. i love how they’re creating this sense that Shin is both… disturbed and intrigued by Sabine in episode 4. angry and also… holding her by the wrist, standing between her and Morgan.

listen, i am going to ship wolfwren whether or not my cows come home, but i really don’t bother with characters who aren’t interesting. so, yeah, i think Shin has plenty of personality! i love what star wars has been doing with the girls who have red(ish) sabers lately. i adore Reva, i am regularly insane about Trilla Suduri, and i think Shin is very different from them but no less fascinating! i’m loving the tentative line she’s walking between dangerous and vulnerable.

and, yeah, i think they should kiss.

i think it’s really weird that there hasn’t been much criticism about lack of ethnic accuracy in asian american screen productions like no one talks about how henry golding is malaysian iban yet was cast in cra, randall park is korean and was in fotb, 90% of the warrior cast isn’t actually chinese, lana condor has been cast as like every asian race except her own, the character magnus bane has been cast twice as non-indonesian, don’t even get me started on miss marvel cast having only like 2 pakistanis plus a million other cases of east asian actors playing southeast asian characters etc etc etc and yeah sure it’s historically been about asian actors grabbing whatever roles they can get and perhaps there is something to say about solidarity and higher-profile asian actors trying to support other productions but when is the bar gonna be raised when are asians going to stop being treated as interchangeable

People always characterize Light as neurotic, do you think that they are ignoring L's neuroses or is he just normal?

this is such a good question and also it gives me a chance to talk about my favourite subject on earth: L being neurotic.

SO the short answer is: no, he’s not normal. (or, well, it’s hard to say how many neuroses are normal to have when your life is constantly being threatened by a faceless god, but probably fewer than these.)

my personal read on L is that he tries very, very hard to pretend he’s deeply unaffected by everything that’s going on around him, but he fairly clearly is not. case in point: we can see him calmly discussing his own death after he’s just collapsed off his chair. his eyes are hidden, which is death note’s main signal that someone is hiding their true feelings. 

to me, his desperation to hide that he’s got any sort of feelings about anything speaks to an underlying terror of being perceived and/or taking up other people’s emotional space. he doesn’t want to be seen as human. he doesn’t want to be dealt with as anything but this faceless creature. he wants to be a tool and a resource before he’s a person. 

he is in a unique situation, but i do feel it goes above and beyond what is necessary and also is not strategically useful, since it infuriates literally everyone in the task force apart from soichiro. even watari tells him off for it. it’s not even a trait he values — after aizawa has his outburst, L tells him he likes people like him. i think it’s something he feels he has to do for nebulous reasons. maybe he knows why! maybe he doesn’t! 

i also (& possibly this is a hot take) think L is a chronic people-pleaser. he’s always extremely polite-verging-on-deferent. with a few exceptions that derive from high emotion and danger, he’s polite to people regardless of how rudely they speak to him. there are several points in death note where people are outright yelling at him, and he always responds quietly and politely.

he also folds to the task force at a few crucial points, most notably when they demands he remove the handcuffs and let light walk free.

it’s clear from both his expression and the fact that he does not in any way give up on light being kira that he thinks this is a terrible idea, but he lets him go anyway and apologizes as he signs his own death warrant.

ALSO ok sorry this is already long but i think i would be remiss to talk about L’s neuroticism without also talking about his ✨trauma.✨ it’s never really clear what happened to L prior to the events of death note, but i think we can logically surmise that it wasn’t ideal. he grew up in an orphanage, which is traumatic in and of itself, and clearly something happened to create a situation where this was possible — either his guardians died, or were in some way incapacitated, or he was removed from them.

then there’s the fact of his job. L’s age is ambiguous in the main canon & 24 if you choose to incorporate htr13 — either way, he’s quite young, and he’s already been solving cases for years. we don’t know what exactly the cases were, but i think it’s fairly safe to say that they weren’t pleasant. i feel very strongly that this would impact the way you see people and what sort of behaviour you expect from them. even people who enter similar fields as adults, with proper support systems and the inculcation of years of seeing people behave compassionately towards one another, often end up jaded and distrustful. it burns you out and wrecks havoc on your empathy. 

also during the course of death note he’s been inside for nearly a year, speaking to a grand total of eleven people, one of whom wants to murder him, which is maybe not like the ideal scenario for one’s mental health. imo this & the constant stress of being murdered do contribute to his increasingly erratic behaviour as the series progresses. which is to say: PROVIDE ENRICHMENT FOR YOUR DETECTIVES if you don't want them to develop codependent relationships with their serial killer bffs.
