Chaol’s kid #1: Daddy... Why is my middle name Aelin?
Chaol: Well when Mommy was younger Queen Aelin saved her life and changed it for the better. Aelin also is one of my good friends and has helped me too. So basically we wouldn’t be here with Aelin.
Kid #2: What about me Daddy?
Chaol: Be quiet Golden Couch Dorian Westfall.

“You must enter where you fear to tread” ... “I was given this gift by Silba. It is not right to charge for what was granted for free” ... “I once lived in fear of other people. I let other people walk all over me just because I was too afraid of the consequences for refusing. I did not know how to refuse.” ... “He didn't understand-how she could be so delicate, so small, when she had overturned his life entirely. Worked miracles with those hands and that soul, this woman who had crossed mountains and seas.”  ... “A gift. A gift from a queen who had seen another woman in hell and thought to reach back a hand. With no thought of it ever being returned. A moment of kindness, a tug on a thread.”

Chicago KOA Event
No spoilers, here’s everything that was talked about at the event last night!
When she had edited it completely, KoA was originally 1008 pages but the glue they use for binding couldn’t hold together a book more than 1000 pages long
Bloomsbury reformatted it all to less than 1000 pages because Sarah didn’t feel like she could delete any of it
She knew what the end would be five years ago while on a trip in Costa Rica at the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Saw the landscape and the final sentence of the series came to her
She ended up crying in front of all of her in-laws
Lysandra’s return in Queen of Shadows was inspired by the song “Smack My Bitch Up” by The Prodigy. Not the title or the lyrics but the background music made Sarah think of Lysandra shifting into a snow leopard and she knew that she would be a shapeshifter
She wanted to make Aelin see other girls as allies and friends and to surround herself with strong women and she realized Lysandra would be the perfect best friend
The scene when Lysandra saved Rowan and Aedion in Queen of Shadows is one of Sarah’s favorites and was inspired by the song in E.T. when the kids are riding their bikes
As soon as Lysandra was there, she couldn’t imagine the series without her and she’s one of Sarah’s favorite characters
Every scene and character is inspired by music
Aelin has a theme song: “Remember Us” from the 300 soundtrack
Sarah listened to it when Chaol found out Celaena was Aelin, when the army arrives at the end of EoS, and throughout writing KoA
As she’s writing books, she makes playlists with songs for scenes and characters
Helps when she’s editing so she can re-listen to songs that inspired that scene/chapter to re-enter the headspace
When writing scenes without music, she worries that they will be ‘emotionally dead’ and it can be a really weird experience
Rowan and Aedion are one of her favorite relationships—especially when they first meet and Aedion is geeking out. Then when Rowan gives Aedion the dagger at the end of QoS and it becomes his most prized possession
Manon and Abraxos are also one of her favorite relationships because he brings out her ‘humanity’ and begins the change that leads to her character arc
Abraxos was inspired by Ferdinand the bull and her aunt’s dog, Buddy, who was rescued from a fighting ring where he was used as a bait dog. He was abused, his teeth were all gone, and they abandoned him on the side of the highway before someone found him. Nevertheless, he was the kindest, sweetest, most trusting dog
She replicated his story in Abraxos
Aelin and Rowan is her favorite pairing
Their journey in Heir of Fire is really special for her
In Queen of Glass, Aelin and Rowan weren’t together because she was in a relationship with someone else but when Sarah wasn’t writing that, she would write fanfic smut where Aelin and Rowan were hooking up on the side
When rewriting the series for publication, she realized that Rowaelin should be together, although Rowan should come in later in the series because she wanted Aelin to have the journey of going through first love [triangle] with Dorian and Chaol
When writing Heir of Fire, she planted the seeds of their romance so when readers reread it, they could understand why he... bit her and stuff lol
She also loves Nesryn and Sartaq
Writing the spiders and ruks and Sartaq was a way for Sarah to live out her fantasies
Chaol and Yrene were destined for each other as soon as Yrene walked in the room in ToD.
When Sarah wrote Yrene in Assassin and the Healer, she knew about the note so when she finally got to write the scene where Chaol reads it, she cried to finally get to reveal it—especially when Chaol sheds some ‘man tears’ (although she joked that he would be an ugly crier)
She knows a lot about the world that we don’t see in the books, like the Western Wastes and the ruins of the Witch Kingdom
World of Throne of Glass (hopefully coming out next year) will be an encyclopedia/chronicle of the entire series written ten years after the series ends, giving us glimpses of where the characters are at that point and the places we didn’t get to see in the original novels
They had a discussion about whether to split KoA into two books but decided against it because the pacing would be off
Question: Who would win the Great British Bake-off?
Aelin would burn her cakes. She would have big plans for a chocolate hazelnut three-tiered cake but when she pulled them out of the oven they’d be small, shrunken, sad disks. She’d throw them in the garbage and storm out of the tent. She would not be seen again, she would not be asked back. She does not have very polite British manners
Rowan would not be into it. he’d be like “I don’t like sweets, they’re bad for your teeth. Where’s my meat on a stick?”
Aedion would be bottom of the barrel every week but he would stay on because he’s so good looking and charming that the judges wouldn't boot him off
Chaol would join Rowan for a drink
Nesryn’s dad is a baker so she would know how to make things so she would have the most amazing creations
Dorian would be Nesryn’s number one rival. He’s a man of such fine tastes. He enjoys reading and red wine and he’ll buy chocolates and go shopping, he likes dogs, he will carry your bags, and he knows how to cook and bake and clean and he will do those gladly for you. Every morning he’ll make pancakes and scones and blueberry compote.
He and Nesryn would be the final two contestants. Nesryn would ultimately win and she would say, “I feel like Dorian deserves it because his life is so sad.” He would reply, “I don’t need your pity, you won, you deserve it” and then Nesryn would accept, so she would win Bake-off and then everyone would enjoy the sweets in the garden
Crescent City is the new series that will be out next.
Adult fantasy - really same level as ACOTAR content wise
Set in an alternate fantasy world where humans were once the dominant species before gates opened and creature invaded and took over. A whole modern society with hierarchies exist now between races with a warring between technology and magic as they are at odds but also working together
Follows Bryce Quinlan - half-fae, half-human
Will contain sexy times, murder, and mayhem—as expected
The idea for Crescent City climax came to Sarah in the middle of a plane ride and she started sobbing
Future of ToG
“Now that throne of glass is *air quotes* over *air quotes*”
“Right now I need a little break *wink*”
There are places in the Throne of Glass world that she would love to one day explore at the right time and right story
The door is not shut on Throne of Glass but just closed a little bit
ACOTAR Spin-off novel
ACOFAS is like a Christmas special bridging the ACOWAR and the next installment
The next book will be full length, about Nesta and Cassian
She’s already written 200 pages of it over the past two years without planning on publishing it
Some spin-offs will take place after ACOWAR, some a really long time before, but each will have their own romantic pairing
The Nessian novel will come out after Crescent City
Then Taran and Josh came out and were so amazingly adorable for a couple minutes
Question: Who would Aelin and Rowan’s children’s godparents be?
If they survive.... and are able to have children... their godparents would be Lysandra and Aedion
But Aelin would want Yrene to be the god-cousin
Really, all of them would be the god-parents
And Rowan and Aelin as parents:
Rowan would try to play it cool
“Yeah, go on your date, have fun”
But then his daughter is holding hands with her date, walking down the street, and she looks up and there’s a hawk on the roof of the building watching her
And then they get to the restaurant and she looks over and at the table next to their’s, Aelin and Lysandra are hiding behind menus
Aelin will be the true terror for her children
Their kid’s dates would walk into the palace and Aelin would be sitting there in a ball of flame like “Hi, it’s so nice to meet you. I’m Aelin, if you hurt my child, I’ll burn you”
Rowan and Aedion and Lorcan dealing with teenage girls would be hilarious
Dealing with a 14-year-old girl who wants to wear pretty dresses and get her hair done…
But Rowan would secretly love it
He would bring her to the fantasy hair salon—to the dry bar that Aelin gifts to the kingdom
Question: What would Aelin and Dorian’s favorite books be?
JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood because it is “action of both varieties”
Karen Marie Moning’s Fever books because Mack and Aelin would be best friends as survivors and badasses and girly-girls
Nalini Singh Gildhunter books and Psy-Changeling books
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
The Alphabet of Thorn by Patricia McKillip
Question: Who would win in a fight, Rhys or Aelin?
Rhys and Aelin are so similar, both snarky, hiding behind sarcasm, both willing to sacrifice themselves to avoid hurting the ones they love
Aelin when she sees Rhys: “Oh my god, he’s so hot and so nice, I’m obsessed with him”
Rhys after he meets Aelin: “Oh my god, I need an Advil. Will someone please go deal with her. Azriel, go deal with her.”
Azriel: “Oh, look at the time, I have to go spy now”
Cassian: “I’ll go hang out with her”
Cut to an hour later and half the city is burning
If Aelin and Rhys were fighting, Aelin would be so upset because she thought she and Rhys had a chance at love and obviously something went really wrong
It would depend on who wanted it more. If Rhys’ court were in danger, he would win. But if the fight is for fun and he didn’t care, Aelin would fight dirty, throwing sand in his eyes, playing the ‘don’t hit me I’m a girl’ card, and then stabbing him
Question: If your characters were in a Disney movie, who would they be?
Aelin: Elsa
Rowan: Shang from Mulan (but kinda Zazu too)
Feyre: Belle
Rhys: Flynn Rider
She really wants fanart of Rhys as Flynn Rider and Rowan as Zazu

Unfriendly reminder
Yrene is gonna see Aelin and remember her from all those years ago
But! Aelin isn’t going to recognize her cause Aelin is actually Lysandra and it’s gonna crush her.
Then they’re all gonna learn what really happened to Aelin and then everyone is gonna be crushed a thousand times more
You’re welcome. Love y’all

Did You Know: After the loss of Uriel V in Akavir, Uriel VI became Emperor at just five years old? The Elder Council and his mother took advantage of this situation to remove most of the powers of the Emperor (except for the Imperial Veto), and continued their regency until he was 22 years old. Uriel VI, upon finally being granted permission to rule the Empire, vigorously employed the Imperial Veto to wrestle back control of the Empire from the Elder Council, and used the few remaining loyal spy networks and bodyguards at his disposal to intimidate Councilors.
Six years later he would die when he "fell off his horse", and he "could not be resuscitated by the finest Imperial healers".

“She could go to Antica, attend the Torre Cesme, go anywhere she wished.
If she dared.”

“I was on my way to Antica to join their healers’ academy and ran out of money.” She dipped the rag into the water, wrung it out, and resumed cleaning the shallow wound. “I got work here to pay for the passage over the ocean, and … Well, I never left. I guess staying here became … easier. Simpler.” A snort. “This place? It’s certainly simple, but easy? I think I’d rather starve in the streets of Antica than live here.” Yrene’s face warmed. “It - I …” She didn’t have an excuse. The girl’s eyes flashed to hers. They were ringed with gold - stunning. Even with the bruises, the girl was alluring. Like wildfire, or a summer storm swept in off the Gulf of Oro. “Let me give you a bit of advice,” the girl said bitterly, “from one working girl to another: Life isn’t easy, no matter where you are. You’ll make choices you think are right, and then suffer for them.” Those remarkable eyes flickered. “So if you’re going to be miserable, you might as well go to Antica and be miserable in the shadow of the Torre Cesme.

I’ve decided to stop being salty about Thaletas and his sidehoe-ing ass and instead focus on the real Love of AC Odyssey. Lykaon is just so fucking cute, sweet, and UGHHHHGGHG. As of this moment I’m gonna try to draw as much as him and Alexios as much as possible to heal others such as myself who are scorned by the hype of how “great” Thalexios” is.
(this being said, we need a ship name for the two. . . Alykaon? Lykios? Alexykaon?)
Also this is my first attempt at using overlay layers and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Imagine getting injured while on some adventure, like BADLY injured. Imagine waking up in Asgard. Imagine learning that Loki carried you to Asgard and turned himself in to Odin in exchange for Asgardian healers saving you.

Just finished The Assassin and the Healer, and oh my god, my heart is breaking because we see so much of Celaena’s pain and barely concealed rage. 😭

So this is my first time reading TAB, and I’m wondering if anyone suspected that Celaena might be a lost princess at the time the novellas and Throne of Glass were first published. Cause I mean, that very first quote seems like a huuuuuge hint. But I really don’t remember coming to that conclusion when I first read Throne of Glass. I guess I’ll find out when I start my reread of that, but I don’t remember there being such an obvious clue as that. And by the time I came around to the series again and started Crown of Midnight, I knew that Celaena was Aelin because Empire of Storms was already out and spoilers were kind of unavoidable at that point. So I never got to come by this discovery naturally.
