Sam Cortland

Beloved—not just by her, but by many.

Sam. Her Sam.”

The Assassin and the Healer

My local library has all the novellas except the fully bound one that contains The Assassin and the Healer.

How do I read it😫 I don’t want to continue with the series without it

“This girl wasn’t like wildfire—she was wildfire. Deadly and uncontrollable. And slightly out of her wits.”

This is the best description of Celaena I’ve ever seen. Thank you, Yrene with a Y

If she dared.”

Just finished The Assassin and the Healer, and oh my god, my heart is breaking because we see so much of Celaena’s pain and barely concealed rage. 😭

So this is my first time reading TAB, and I’m wondering if anyone suspected that Celaena might be a lost princess at the time the novellas and Throne of Glass were first published. Cause I mean, that very first quote seems like a huuuuuge hint. But I really don’t remember coming to that conclusion when I first read Throne of Glass. I guess I’ll find out when I start my reread of that, but I don’t remember there being such an obvious clue as that. And by the time I came around to the series again and started Crown of Midnight, I knew that Celaena was Aelin because Empire of Storms was already out and spoilers were kind of unavoidable at that point. So I never got to come by this discovery naturally.

I’m still working on The Assassin’s Blade and I am high key Emotional™ about Celaena helping Yrene and then Yrene telling her she was going to come back to help someday and knowing that’s exactly what’s gonna happen

Everyone should read The Assassin and the Healer from The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas. There is some damn good advice about how to fight off attackers in a real situation:

  • People dont hunt for women who look like theyre gonna put up a fight, they pick you if you look vunreable or sympathetic
  • Don’t let potential attackers move you to another (more private) location
  • They let you go, you run.
  • Try to surround you with other people
  • Make noise
  • Dont cry about rape or theft. Shout “FIRE!” and there is a bigger chance somoene will come for your aid. Many will cower and ignore the situation otherwise.
  • Always strike for the groin
  • If they want money, throw whatever coins you have on you and run the other way. Usually, they’ll go for the money, not you.
  • “if ever you get a chance, teach it to any female who will take the time to listen”

There are other hints about self-defense in the novella. Pass it on. Celaenas (SJMs) advice really can make a difference.

Celaena living in her apartment

Celaena: *complaning to sam* I’m tired of being the only one who cleans, organizes and paying for the food, the furniture, and everything else in this household!

Sam: Celaena…. you live alone

I don’t usually do fan casts, I prefer to make them up as I go. But when I read about Yrene I could NOT not imagine her as Alicia Vikander! She fits the description beautifully, and her looks really portray the grace and resilience that I’ve come to associate to the wonderful Yrene Towers.
Let me know what you think!

YRENE TOWERS . HEALER . SILBA’S HEIR

“You must enter where you fear to tread”

“I was given this gift by Silba. It is not right to charge for what was granted for free”

“I once lived in fear of other people. I let other people walk all over me just because I was too afraid of the consequences for refusing. I did not know how to refuse.”

“He didn’t understand-how she could be so delicate, so small, when she had overturned his life entirely. Worked miracles with those hands and that soul, this woman who had crossed mountains and seas.”

“A gift.
A gift from a queen who had seen another woman in hell and thought to reach back a hand. With no thought of it ever being returned. A moment of kindness, a tug on a thread.”
