One big thing that gets missed in the conversation about native plants is that when considering a plant, you really should ask two questions:

1. Where, specifically, is it native to?

2. Within that region, what ecosystem conditions does it live in? Will it thrive where you intend to plant it?

I cannot tell you how many times I've come across a plant labeled as native that doesn't even grow in my state. Sure, it's native to the continent, but not this side of the rocky mountains! That's not nearly specific enough if your goal is to support endemic animal species and the overall ecosystem.

You also need to consider what conditions that plant needs to thrive. One example I see a lot of here is planting understory plants in full sun. They're stressed out, they're getting sunburnt, and they're slowly dying. People will also try the reverse, planting praire plants in deep shade, and wonder why they're all floppy and anemic looking. Plants may be native to your area, but they still have specific needs and you will have much greater success if you match the conditions you have to a plant that will thrive there.

A third, extra credit question is a two parter: is it endemic (aka, unique to your region) or does it have a a broader, or even circumpolar distribution? I mean, check out the range maps for Henderson's shooting star & twinflower:

Twinflower is found across the northern portions of Eurasia as well.

The second part is, are any of the vulnerable species in your area depending on it? An example from my area is Viola Adunca, which has a pretty broad range,

But is also host to multiple fritilary butterfly species in my area, some of which are on the decline and some of which are no longer found in my state. Due to habitat loss. Both due to human activity (agriculture, subdivisions, etc) and human inactivity (banning the intentional burns the Native peoples did, that maintained the Oak savanna ecosystem, leading them to be "invaded" by non-fire adapted Douglas firs, another native species. Also at the same time making the region more vulnerable to bigger and more devastating wild fires).

For me, it's about those quiet assurances that we are not the people who raised us.

I wore the hideous shirt my mother bought me for my birthday to dinner, just because I knew it would make her happy to see it. She asked me how my day was and then proceeded to cut me off with, "shut up, for the love of god" not even 5 minutes later.

It's sometimes hard to see ourselves past the shadow of the people who raised us - anyone who has experienced parental abuse knows the gut-clenching sting of being told you're "just like them" - but from you to me: you are there. Even in the smallest of choices. I see you. Don't stop looking for yourself.

since we are all in agreement that zabraks are like, cat-lizard-alien people, then they should have an aversion to water (or some kind of chemical) due to their biology, and an affinity for a different chemical, like how cats love wool and sheep because wool is full of lanolin, an oil produced by nursing cats that induces nursing behavior in kittens and adult cats alike.

sorry to anyone who has wondered where i've been, if that's been anyone at all

i fell out of making art for kingdom hearts, and i was tempted to make this huge post with receipts to explain why, but instead i think it will be easier to just say this: fandom zines suck, and a mod that ran the ienzo/zexion zine i was in harassed me into basically just giving up and not making any art of him or posting about him.

the experience i had in that zine was bad enough that i had to make this decision: from now on, i will not participate in fandom zines run by other people. i love making and helping with zines so this really upsets me, and i hope to get back into the zine scene soon. maybe self-published is the way to go for me, im not sure. i am not even sure i can return to the zine scene at all because the deadline stress is too much for me, personally.

i've also become hesitant to participate in fandom events at all anymore. the exception has been the TWEWY secret santa that's happened the last 2 decembers, and that's because i am comfortable enough with the mod and people involved that i know im not going to be like. Harassed. lol

i lost my drive to create KH stuff at all because interacting with it, and especially making stuff about ienzo, who is my favorite, would have opened me up to furthered harassment, and i just didn't want to deal with it. due to the nature of working on the zine and being sent a copy of it, it's very possible the person who harassed me could make a lot of trouble for me if i say anything at all, which is why i just Haven't until now. they have my name and previous address, which i gave to them before the harassment started. i was required to give it to them to be compensated even slightly for my work. so this being potentially used against me, for what amounts to expressing my own opinions on my own blog, made me hesitant to say anything or involve myself further in the fandom.

all i did was say the very normal and lukewarm opinion of "it makes me uncomfortable when people want to see someone fuck their adoptive parent figures, and i don't want people like that following me", and said mod ended up DMing me to chastise me about it. im not going to name that mod or share the screenshots openly, because that would be taken by them as 'harassment', ironically, and i just would like to move on.

that, combined with a lot of things going on IRL, has made posting difficult for me. tbh, i've barely drawn anything since june of last year. Thank u to everyone who has still enjoyed my art that is already up, and to all the other ienzo/zexion enjoyers who like my art and are understanding. i miss kh and i hope i'll find the drive to be into it again soon. until then, the main things i've been into lately have been (N)TWEWY, omori, and hunter x hunter, so you might see stuff about that if and when i ever get my shit set back up.

i debated just not posting this and acting like it didn't happen. but not saying anything at all would be dishonest, and more importantly, i think people should be aware of the fact that fandom zines are not always a fun experience, and can actually be very stressful and exhausting for very little reward. i want to caution people before joining fandom events to vet the people running it a little bit if possible. you can't control who gets accepted to the zine, but you can control the people whose zines you sign up for. and if it sucks hit the bricks, which i did not do and should have lol

sometimes, you join a zine and put a lot of love and work into it, all you get out of it is being overworked and harassed. and then not all the finished pieces you made for the zine even ends up in it 🙃 did i mention you have to pay to get copies of the merch you yourself designed?

for the sake of my own sanity and to avoid certain people's ire im not gonna tag this in the main tags, and im also going to turn reblogs off. this is just an informational post about where i've been, what's been happening with me, and why it's hard for me to make stuff about ienzo right now. please just take it as such and don't be mean to anyone, regardless of what happened. if anyone is really burning for details i might be open to answering in DMs, but more than anything, i just want to get this out of my system (˚ ; - ; )👍

i hope i can go back to being the "funny ienzo guy" soon. until then i will continue to be the "funny emo boys in general" guy

A sheep in shepherd's clothing.

This phrase came to me a few minutes ago. Journaling about how at different points in the past I have adopted a posture of "knowing" and "teaching" things to others, as though I am not at the same maturity level and on the same journey as they are.

There has been a pattern I am noticing in shows that aggressively push the “childhood friends to lovers” pipeline as being ~one true love~…is that there is a very particular dynamic that is being supported. One that involves the male character disrespecting the female character for years.

Whether this be through

A) straight out verbally insulting (cruelly I might add) her appearance, her opinions, her actions, her interests (the list could go on)

AND/OR

B) taking her for granted. the female counterpart is a exceedingly kind human being and he walks all over her. Never says thank you, never recognizes her value as his friend, never makes her feel special. Never acknowledges her as an important person in his life in public once he gets old enough (because usually said male counterpart becomes part of the popular crowd). Turns a blind eye to her entire life. Expects and assumes for her to always be there (unchanged and perfect) regardless of how he treats her—An emotional servant.

He only realizes his feelings when his “childhood love” starts living a life completely independent of him. When she has found happiness with someone else who treats her well and not like she is a second priority. When she finds hobbies and interests that take her out of his shadow.

When she moves on.

This personal and character growth that she is achieving is then sabotaged by the writers because you know one true love…. The guy she was infatuated with when she was in diapers is the only one meant for her. What is otherwise a healthy relationship gets ruined because of completely manufactured drama (that does not make sense should anyone have paused and taken a second to actually think) that drives her back into Guy 1’s arms. This drama not only is blown completely out of proportion but is not actually how those characters would react based on their growth up until that point.

Guy 1 hasn’t changed at all. He expects things to “go back to normal” except now “she is mine”. Almost as if the girl is an object and the only thing he cared about was making sure no one else “had her”- not truly about her as a person. Her autonomy, her opinion, her wants and desires, are secondary in this discussion. He has barely worked on himself and has enough baggage to sink a ship.

Her life once again revolves around Guy 1. She changes herself once again to fit Guy 1. He maybe uses three less insulting adjectives when describing her and smiles at her a little more. The background characters think they are perfect together (bonus points if you throw in the words destiny and fate). They kiss and live happily ever after.

Why is this being idealized and romanticized?! Why is this held up as the definition of the perfect love story?!

WHY IS THIS SOMETHING THE AUDIENCE IS TOLD WE SHOULD ASPIRE TO HAVE?!

Why is this story arc presented as this is what true love looks like??!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

LET CHARACTERS ROMANTICALLY GROW OUT OF SOMEONE THEY KNEW WHEN THEY WERE FIVE.

Especially when their dynamic IS NOT HEALTHY.

Women are not a prize. Men are not entitled to girls they knew when they were younger simply because of the kindergarten argument of I saw her first. Being disrespected and ignored and taken for granted should not be excused. No one deserves to be with someone who makes them feel like they were a second choice, a lower priority, a charity case. Everyone deserves to feel happy and loved in their relationships from the very beginning.

Healthy relationships should be celebrated!! Character growth should be applauded! Proper communication and conflict resolution should be demonstrated!

If you are going to do childhood friends to lovers, do it right.

Or let the childhood crush be only a stop in the journey and not the end destination.

People can fall in love more than once.

Also, this trend pops up especially in book series that have been translated for television. Book series that themselves were problematic, poorly written, and dated. Book series in which several other elements were changed but this was kept (out of the writers’ “infinite wisdom”). This particular storyline is overdue for a rewrite.

Let’s stop taking our romantic cues from decades old badly written romance novels.
