notes: while the reader in this fic is female, i am well aware not everyone who has a period is a girl, and not everyone who's a girl has a period!

Steve is one attentive boyfriend.
It’s the early stages of your relationship, the golden era, the honeymoon phase. And while you’re a still a bit nervous about it all, you couldn’t be happier, because he does it all right.
He knows your favourite snacks, what music you like, what makes you laugh, what makes you cry. He’s starting to figure out your ins and outs, and it’s almost crazy how quickly he’s catching on. You have no reason to feel judged by him at any point, he truly is comfort poured into the shape of a person.
So then why are you staring at your phone right now, struggling to dial his number and just tell him why you can’t make it to your date?
It’s not usually this bad, at least it hadn’t been for a while, so why now, of all moments, must you be forsaken to be terrorised by your period?
You bite your lip, laying flat onto your bed, hand over your lower stomach. It's right where the pain is just gnawing at you, just like the guilt is. But you know you’d feel even guiltier if you just stood him up, he doesn’t deserve that. You sit up, a tad slowly to save yourself from another cramp, and swallow your nerves for now.
“I’ll just… Tell him I’m sick. Yeah… Yeah I can do that.” You think to yourself.
The combination of his number had started to feel natural to your fingers now, unlike how anxiously you pressed the buttons the first time, triple checking before finally pressing call. You're triple checking again now, more so because you're not sure you can handle hearing the defeat in his voice when you tell him you can't make it.
The phone barely gets a moment to ring before he picks it up, and his all too familiar sweet voice comes through the device.
"Hey babe, everything okay over there?"
You pause a moment before replying. "How did you know it was me calling?"
"Lover's intuition." He chuckles, and it makes your heart flutter. It's not fair how easy it is for him to do that to you, but you enjoy it nonetheless. "So, what's going on?"
"I, uh..." God, getting the words out is like pulling teeth. But you'd rather die than let him think you just got cold feet about your movie date. "I'm really not feeling too well right now, Steve... I'm-- I'm so sorry, I'm gonna have to cancel for tonight." Your eyes are welling up with tears before he even gets a chance to reply, just imagining his pretty face losing its bright expression when hearing your unfortunate news.
"Oh," damnit, he does sound sad, "that's okay, uhm... Is there anything I can do? What kinda sick is it?"
Shit, he's gonna make you say it, isn't he? You know Steve is a mature guy, he knows about periods, knows how they work, but you've been told to suck it up and get on with it before... A part of you is still disappointed that you just can't.
"U-Uhm... It's more like, a stomach thing, I guess?" It's the best way you can put it for now, hoping it'll put his worries to rest.
"Okay, I see..." You can nearly hear him thinking, the subtle noise of bags being moved and a fridge being opened coming through the phone. "Uh, how aboouuut... I come over to yours, and we just watch a movie at home? I still got a couple of tapes we haven't gotten to, and I can bring some light snacks that won't upset your stomach too much."
The thought of Steve caring for you while you're sick sends a warm feeling through your entire body. God, how does he just keep getting better? But you can't lie to him, right? It's not like you're really sick, unless you count the curse of menstruation as a symptom.
Before you get a chance to explain, he's talking again, and by the ruckus in the background you can only guess he's rushing to grab all his stuff. "I'll be heading out in a bit, I'll stop by the corner store too, stay put for me alright? See ya in a bit!"
You're sure he didn't realize he wasn't letting you talk, but frankly, you probably couldn't even come up with a response on time anyways. Right now, you just have to worry about looking somewhat presentable, and maybe figure out a way to tell him you're not actually sick.
By the time you've brushed your hair and brushed some mascara onto your lashes, you're already hearing the doorbell. You just manage to pull a fresh shirt over your head, before stumbling down the stairs and stopping in front of the door. With a deep, loaded, sigh you open it, to reveal your boyfriend.
Hair messed up, plastic bag in hand, jacket haphazardly thrown on. He clearly rushed to be here, still panting a little, but in your eyes, he's the image of your guardian angel, your saviour in need.
Before either of you know it, you're crying again, your freshly applied mascara now leaving thin black streaks over your cheeks. Your hands go up to cover your face, embarrassed, not even sure why you're sobbing all of a sudden. The feelings just hit you like a freight train, rocking you before you even have a time to rationalize.
Steve's expression falters, the bag he had in hand dropping to the floor in an instant, stepping in closer so he can carefully wrap his arms around you and pull you to his chest. Not too tight, he doesn't want to startle you. He's a bit distraught; he's really only seen you cry at a sad movie scene before, so he's a bit unsure as to what's caught you to be so upset right now.
"I-I'm sorry..." you manage to mutter through your incoherent sobs and sniffs, effectively ruining the front of his shirt in the process.
"Hey, hey..." His big hands go up to your face, gently cupping your wettened cheeks as he looks into your teary eyes. Hell, the image of you is almost enough to make him break too. "What're you sorry for? You can't help it that you're sick, right?"
The reminder of your lie makes you want to break eye contact in shame, but it's hard to force yourself to lose sight of that soft, caring gaze of his.
"I," sniff, "I lied, I'm so sorry Steve, I-- I'm not sick, I just... I have..."
He watches you expectedly, not upset, just curious. You'd surely have your reasons if whatever caused you to cancel is making you this upset.
"I'm... I'm just on my period and it-- it hurts really bad, it's not even usually this bad, and I felt like I was overreacting and I feel so bad and--" Your ramble gets cut short by his chuckle, the same one that nearly caused you to melt over the phone earlier.
"W-Wha... Why are you laughing?" You're not sure if you should be happy or worried, you're already experiencing so much at once, it's hard to pick one emotion to feel.
"Nothing, it's just, well," he picks up the bag he dropped, opening it slightly to show the bars of chocolate, candy and your favorite chips inside. "I had a feeling."
The sight of it makes you snap out of your state of distress, and you can’t help but crack a smile through your tears. “Seriously? How?”
He shrugs, a sheepish smile adorning his face. “I told you, lover’s intuition.” He pulls you back to him and kisses your head. “There’s another bag in the car with chicken soup in case I was wrong.”
You both laugh, just hugging on your doorstep for a moment. You have to let it sink in, that maybe Steve just is that sweet and considerate of a guy.
“D’you wanna go inside, or does standing outside help with cramps?” He pulls back a little, and you fight the urge to poke him in the ribs for his sarcasm. You love it either way.
“Yeah, let’s go inside. We can watch When Harry Met Sally and I can cry my eyes out again. Sound good?”
“Sounds perfect.”

Whisper Sweet Nothings
A/N: this one won the vote so here ya go! Probably not quite what everyone imagined 😂
Pairing: Rhea Ripley x Reader
Warnings: teasing, oral (f receiving), choking, good old game of strip wrestling, mentions of using a strap
Part Two
Tumblr media
“You ready, darling?” Rhea asked, fixing up the details of her gear.
You were the newest member of Judgement Day and it was your first live appearance with them. You were nervous but you trusted all of them to take care of you.
“I’m ready,” you nodded, taking a deep breath.
While you were new to JD, you were not new in the WWE universe, and you were no stranger to Rhea. You weren’t best friends, but you had a playful backstage relationship and you were excited to get to work with her. Plus, it didn’t hurt she was pretty easy on the eyes.
“And her opponent, accompanied by the members of The Judgement Day… (your ring name)!”
You all stepped out onto the ramp and people booed. You put on your best sinister smile as you stared down your opponent in the ring.
Rhea leaned down to whisper in your ear like she does with Dom.
“You’ve got this, pretty girl. Easy win,” she said. You tried not to let the fact she called you pretty get to your head but it did give you an extra boost of confidence that allowed you the edge to win your match.
The crowd seemed to accept you as the newest member and you were glad. They especially loved your connection with Rhea. They loved when she was flirtatious and she loved to direct that energy toward you. You did your best to give it back, but you hated to admit that she made you flustered.
Summer Slam was just around the corner and you all decided to train a bit harder than usual. Rhea insisted on training with you so you could both learn from one another. It was more distracting than helpful, having her hands on your body so often.
“You okay, babe? You seemed distracted today,” she commented after your workout.
“Oh yeah, I’m good. Just haven’t been sleeping well is all,” you lied.
“I must not be working you hard enough then; let me know if you ever need me to come over and tire you out,” she said with a wink. Your eyes widened as the implication of her words sunk in. She walked away with a smirk on her face, leaving you speechless.
Her teasing continued in the days leading to the pay-per-view. You were tense, wanting an outlet for your frustration.
“We’re up next, let’s go!” Damian yelled, waiting to go on the ramp. You hurried to his side with Rhea hot on your heels.
“Calm down, we’re ready,” she scoffed, throwing an arm around you.
“If you two weren’t busy making out, we wouldn’t almost be late,” Finn said jokingly.
“We were not,” you retorted. He just rolled his eyes as your theme music came on.
You did your entrance as usual, Rhea coming up behind you and leaning down. You were expecting her usual simple comments but you were taken by surprise.
“Trust me, if we had been making out, we wouldn’t be out here right now. I’d still be between your legs making you scream my name,” she whispered. You had to use every ounce of self control to keep from reacting, your normal sadistic smirk struggling to stay on your face.
Your mind was spinning so fast you almost missed your line. You had to focus extra hard just to finish the segment.
Rhea kept an arm around you the entire time and held you tight against her. Every time you dared to look at her you found she was already looking at you. Her piercing blue eyes sent chills down your spine.
A match was announced for Summer Slam for the women’s tag team championship with you and Rhea competing. Once the bit had ended you rushed backstage to collect your thoughts.
She was just joking with you, right? She hadn't really been thinking about doing…that…with you. Had she?
“Great segment, love. Training tomorrow at 9?” She asked, sneaking up behind you. You nearly jumped out of your skin at the sound of her voice.
“Y-yeah, that works,” you stuttered.
“You okay, babe? You seem tense,” she said, putting her hands on your shoulders. She began to massage them gently but it didn’t help your nerves.
“Never better; I’ll see you tomorrow!” You said, hurrying away.
You didn’t sleep well that night, worried about training with Rhea. You tried not to let your feelings come to the surface, but she was making it difficult with her lingering touches and tempting whispers.
The following morning you had an extra cup of coffee and made your way to the training area. It seemed as if you were the first one there, even beating Rhea.
You took the opportunity to stretch first, trying to loosen yourself up. You tried to get your mind into the right headspace and didn’t even notice the door opening and closing.
You jumped when you felt hands on your hips.
“Need some help warming up?” The accented voice asked from behind you.
“Jesus, Rhea! You gave me a heart attack!”
“Sorry, sweetheart; I did say hello when I walked in. Seems like your mind was somewhere else though,” she said with a hint of a smirk.
“Wonder why that is,” you mumbled, going back to your stretching.
She stood across from you and began stretching as well. You tried not to look at her but you couldn’t help it; she was way too gorgeous.
“I was thinking we could spar today,” she suggested, looking at you up and down.
“Sounds good to me,” you shrugged. You and Rhea had very different styles so it was beneficial to go up against one another.
The first couple rounds she took it easy on you and you could tell which only frustrated you more. You tried your best to get the upper hand but to no avail. Eventually, she pinned you, throwing your legs over her shoulders and grinding her hips into your ass as was her infamous pinning style.
“Are you even trying?” She asked, letting you up.
“Of course I’m trying!” You argued.
“How about we raise the stakes a bit, hm?”
“What did you have in mind?” You asked.
“For every pin, you take off a piece of clothing,” she answered. You must’ve misheard her.
“You can’t be serious; anyone could walk in!”
“I booked it just for us for the next hour. No one’s going to interrupt,” she replied. You thought it over for a minute- why the hell not? Worst case she gets some more material to tease you with.
“Fine, you’re on.”
“Really? I’m surprised you agreed,” she chuckled.
“Why’s that?”
“You always seem so uptight is all,” she said.
“I’m not uptight!” You shrieked. How dare she?
“Really? What is it then? Do I make you nervous?” She asked, stalking toward you. You swallowed hard and tried to stand tall.
“No, no you don’t,” you lied.
“Then let’s go.”
She looked at you like a predator looks at their prey before digging in. You squared up and you were determined to win. You fought harder than before, finding strength deep within. You wanted to prove yourself.
You finally got behind her and rolled her into a pin. It wasn’t the best but it did the trick.
“So do I get to pick what you take off?” You smirked. She rolled her eyes and took off her shirt leaving her in her sports bra. It was nothing new- sometimes she would workout in just that.
She quickly rushed at you, taking you off guard. She folded you in half, pinning your shoulders in under a minute.
“Don’t let yourself get distracted.”
You threw your shirt out of the ring and shook it off. If that’s how she wanted to play then so be it.
You pulled out all of your best moves but she was stronger and got the upper hand. She pinned you again and pointed to your leggings.
“Need any help getting them off?” She said with a smirk.
“I’m fine, thanks,” you mumbled angrily. You were left in your bra and underwear.
“That’s fine; I’ll take the next ones off with my teeth.” Her words set your core on fire, but you couldn’t let her play mind games with you.
You faked her out so you could run to the opposite side and climb the ropes. You jumped off without thinking, your legs landing over her shoulders. Your goal was to take her down, but she caught you easily. She looked up at you from between your thighs and you knew you were in trouble.
“Rhea, no!” You shouted before she slammed you to the mat. Your body bounced once before she was pinning you down.
“Decisions, decisions,” she said, running a finger down the length of your body, snagging on your panties and snapping them back.
You couldn’t move; one- because you were still reeling from that slam and two- because you were nervous now.
“My socks!” You said, remembering they technically counted.
“You’re no fun,” she sighed. “Next one, these are mine.” She grabbed your ass before pulling on your panties.
“If you get that far,” you snapped. She started to reply but you attacked her. You threw out every move you knew and eventually had her on her back. You resorted to sitting on her chest and finally pinned her.
“Pants. Now.”
“Sheesh, you’re bossy when you want something,” she sighed. She took off her pants and threw them at you, taking the distraction to rush you. You dodged her attack, however, and were the one on the offensive.
After minutes of back and forth, you were starting to fall behind. You managed to trip her, not your finest moment, but it allowed you to set up your finisher.
You pinned her with a victorious smile on your face. She scowled at you but wasted no time in pulling off her bra. Your jaw dropped at the sight before you. You certainly didn’t think this through- how could you focus now??
The answer was: you couldn’t. Rhea grabbed you and easily picked you up. She threw you on the ropes and when you bounced off she clotheslined you. She didn’t even bother pinning you, she just yanked off your underwear.
“Hey-“ you were cut off by her lips on yours. The kiss feverish and long overdue. You surrendered to her without a challenge, letting her hands roam your body. You pawed at her underwear, hinting for her to take them off.
“Nah, not so fast. You haven’t earned that yet,” she chuckled. You started to pout and she wrapped a hand around your throat. “You think you deserve my pussy?”
“Please,” you whimpered.
“Poor baby,” she sighed. “Don’t worry, love. You’ll get it. I’ve just been dying to taste you and I can’t wait.”
Her hand left your throat and she wrapped them around your thighs, pulling them open. She sunk down between them and licked her lips.
“I can see how wet you are and I haven’t even done anything,” she chuckled. “Or do you just like it that much when I throw you around?”
You didn’t answer so she slapped your cunt.
“Answer me.”
“Yes! Yes, I like it when you throw me around,” you said.
“Thought so,” she said before turning back to your pussy. She licked a thick strip up your center before focusing her attack on your clit. She had your head spinning and she had barely even begun.
Her fingers were digging into your hips as she held you in place. She ate you like a woman starved. No one had ever made you feel like that before and it had you chasing your high within minutes.
She circled your clit with her tongue before dipping it into you and fucking you with it. You started to grind your face against her and she moaned. She went back to sucking on your clit and it was enough to send you over the edge.
Her name spilled from your lips effortlessly, praising her over and over again. She slowed down, licking through your folds one more time before pulling away.
“Fuck, I wish I had my strap with me. I’d fucking destroy you,” she chuckled, watching you come undone before her. “Maybe that’ll be your reward if we win on Saturday. How does that sound?”
She crawled back up your body and kissed you. She bit down on your lip making you whimper.
“I asked you a question.”
“Yes, that sounds good. Please,” you begged.
“Such a good girl for Mami,” she smiled sweetly. She sat up and pulled her underwear off. “I think you’ve earned this now.”
She sat back and you eagerly laid down in front of her. You got comfortable before teasing your tongue through her folds. You were gentle, barely even touching her. You knew it would piss her off, and you were right.
“We’re not gonna play this game, love,” she growled before fisting a hand in your hair. She pulled you flush with her pussy and began to fuck herself against your face. You lapped at her pussy greedily and you had her a moaning mess almost instantly.
She slowed down and let you take the lead but didn’t loosen her grip on your hair.
You toyed with her clit before dipping into her entrance.
“Fuck, love. You’re doing such a good job,” she moaned. “You like when Mami fucks herself on your tongue?”
“Fuck, yes,” you answered eagerly.
She began to move her hips again in rhythm with your movements. She threw her head back and let herself get lost in the moment. Before you knew it, she was cumming on your tongue. You let her fuck your face as long as she needed to ride out your high. Plus, your name on her lips sounded too good to stop.
When she finally released you, you quickly crawled into her lap and pulled her in for a kiss. The taste of the both of you danced on your tongues. You were grinding on her lap and it made her laugh.
“Such a desperate little thing,” she teased. “I think our time is almost up, how about we take this back to my room?”
You simply nodded before throwing your clothes back on as quickly as possible. Rhea led you back to her room where she proved just how much you loved her throwing you around.
Saturday night came along rather quick, the crowd booing as your entrance played. You stood at the top of the ramp next to Rhea as she leaned down per usual.
“Just remember what your reward is if we win.”

WHAT'S IN A NAME | PART 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing : tara carpenter x fem!reader
summary : you can keep running, but you can't run from who you are. | read part 1 here!
word count : 4.1k
warnings : scream vi spoilers but anika lives here bc she deserves better, violence stab stab stab, mentions of blood, swearing, reader is momentarily athletic, and as usual, shitty non-proofread writing lmao
Tumblr media
Tara drags you back to her apartment with Sam and the rest of her friends that evening.
As you expected, Sam was not on board with you staying with them since you were practically a stranger to everyone. But once she saw Tara beg with the cutest pout on her face, Sam knew there was nothing she could do. She did, however, stick to your side for the entirety of the trip home to ensure you don’t do anything funny which was pretty damn intimidating; after seeing what happened at the frat party, you knew better than to fuck with the older Carpenter. Tara, Mindy, and Chad all snickered at the obvious nervousness that was evident on your face despite your protests of not feeling nervous at all.
At the apartment, Chad and Mindy set the table for dinner while you and Tara prepare the food. The two of you steal quick glances at each other, smiling as you silently check each other out.
“So where’d you learn to cook?” Tara finishes chopping carrots then drops them in the pot and you start stirring, adding a variety of seasoning at the same time to enhance its flavour.
“Self-taught. Ever since I came to the city, I had to learn how to live on my own which meant learning how to cook.”
“Where’d you move from? Do you keep in touch with your parents?”
You halt your movements at the mention of your parents and Tara takes immediate notice of this.
“Sorry, I must have hit a nerve. You don’t need to answer, I get-”
“No, you’re good,” you place the ladle down to the side and face the younger Carpenter to give her your full attention.
“Most of my life I stayed in Cali. I decided to leave for college because I wanted to see what else the world had to offer.”
“And you thought New York was the best place to go?” Tara raises her eyebrow.
You chuckled at Tara’s remark, “well it did lead me to you so yeah, I think it was,” you didn’t mean to come off as flirtatious but it’s the truth. Running away and coming to New York allowed you to meet Tara, who is now all smiles and tries to fight the pink tint that was making its way onto her cheeks, causing you to smile too.
“And your parents?” Her smile fades slightly, knowing she may be treading in dangerous waters. You take a deep breath in before answering her.
“My parents are good people. I have nothing against them.”
“Then why do you get tense when I bring it up?”
“It’s just that we haven’t talked since I came here. I’m sure they didn’t want me to move out but I pushed for it anyway, so I’ve been hesitant to reach out; only because I don’t know if they’d want to talk to me after leaving them,” Tara takes notice in the way your breath hitches slightly, trying to hold back the tears from falling. You really missed your parents; you didn’t want to run away but you couldn’t handle the life you had at home.
Tara walks towards you and grabs your hand that was gripping the counter. You relax at her touch, and she leans her head into your chest.
“I’m sure they miss you as much as you miss them, Y/N. They’re your family and family is always going to be there when you need them to be, whether you like it or not,” Tara then takes a quick look at Sam who was placing extra pillows and blankets down for everyone and a small smile makes its way onto her face. “But just know that you don’t need to contact them right away. Do it when you feel ready.”
“I honestly don’t see that happening anytime soon, but I’m definitely thinking on it.”
She takes her head off your chest and looks at you, eyes darting between the both of yours and you find yourself getting lost in her dark brown orbs once again. But to your surprise, the shorter girl takes a step back, her gaze moving from your eyes to the ground and the hem of her shirt suddenly becomes more interesting.
“I think you should get out of the city, though. Like, the three of you I mean, I wouldn’t blame any of you if you wanted to go. We put you guys in a lot of danger and-”
“That’s very thoughtful of you Tara, but I don’t think I’m going anywhere,” she glances up from her shirt to meet your eyes again but the sudden sound of fake gagging catches the both of you off guard.
“Will you two just make out already?” Mindy complains while setting the cutlery on the table.
“Mindy that is so inappropriate, come on dude!” your face heats up at the embarrassment while Tara and Chad just laugh at the current scene in front of them. But the atmosphere immediately changes when Anika points out the news being reported - Sam was being accused for the killings that took place last year in Woodsboro and they claim she placed the blame on Richie and Amber. When Sam mutes the TV and marches to the dining table, you plant yourself beside Anika while Tara, Mindy, and Chad try to comfort the eldest, deciding that it wasn’t your business to meddle in right now.
“So you and Tara, huh?” Anika asks out of the blue, nudging your arm with her elbow.
“Nah, I think it’s way too early to be saying there’s anything between us.”
“But you like her, don’t you? I mean come on, you look at her the way Mindy and I look at each other.” You simply smile and shake your head. You knew what the truth was anyway and judging by the smile on your face, Anika probably knew the truth now too.
Then multiple phones start going off at once, including yours. Hesitant, you pull out the device from your sweater pocket, and once it’s unlocked, you’re greeted with a picture of Quinn being attacked by Ghostface in her room. First you whip your head towards her door, then turn to the four still sitting at the table before all of you get up and crowd in front of Quinn’s room, grabbing Tara by the arm and pulling her close to you to stop her from doing anything irrational.
The screaming and the banging suddenly stop. The silence is eerie. The six of you stand outside Quinn’s room waiting for any sound or sign of life.
You wait.
And wait.
And wait. Until Mindy finally breaks the silence.
“Run!”
The door opens and Ghostface shoves a butchered Quinn towards all of you. The corpse falls on top of Anika and she lets out a blood curdling scream, leaving you frozen in your spot. Chad grabs Tara and they sprint towards the exit, the younger Carpenter yelling for you to follow but the rest of you couldn’t. Ghostface was right in front of you, and if any of you tried running, he could tackle you immediately.
You’re still frozen. You want to move but your feet are stuck to the ground, and you feel helpless. But you finally gain control of your body when he comes forward and slashes Mindy in the arm. As Sam frantically looks for a knife and you apply pressure to Mindy’s arm, Anika tries to hold onto his legs to stop him from hurting Mindy any more, but it backfires when he wraps his hand around Anika’s neck. She visibly turns red and struggles to get him off of her, but it was no use; he's much stronger than she is. Ghostface effortlessly picks Anika up, hand still tight around her neck, and slams her right against the brick wall where he plunges and twists the knife right into her abdomen causing another scream to escape from her throat. He mercilessly sinks the knife even deeper into the girl, making her scream even louder than she already was.
You glance towards the kitchen to find Sam still trying to find any kind of weapon. Realizing she was taking too long, you release Mindy’s arm and rush towards Ghostface, grasping his shoulder and turning him to face you before swinging a right hook right to his face. With no other option, Sam grabs the knife block and knocks Ghostface in the head making him fall to the ground. You help Anika up while Sam assists Mindy, and the four of you run into Quinn’s bedroom. Meanwhile, Tara realizes none of you were behind her and yells at Chad to go back upstairs, but to her demise, the door was locked and she left her keys inside. She begins to panic, worried about what could happen to her sister, her friends, but most importantly, you. Chad wraps his arm around the girl and starts leading her down the stairs.
You plop Anika down beside Mindy and watch as Sam holds the door closed. The banging stops after a while, but Sam notices the bathroom door was open.
“Y/N, the bathroom door, hurry!” Sam whispers, and you rush to go close it.
“Oh fuck! That guy’s dead,” you cry out loud, frightened by the sight of a carved up man in a literal blood bath. Distracted, you nearly miss Ghostface at the door and you frantically try to shove him out of the bathroom, slamming the door onto him multiple times. He manages to plant his knife into your left shoulder, luckily missing your carotid artery due to the awkward angle. You scream out in pain but still push with all your might to get him out the door. Sam comes to your side to help you push, and when he’s finally outside, you lock the door and help Sam push the dresser to block it. Ghostface doesn’t stop banging and kicking the door so you lean against the dresser to add extra weight. In the corner of her eye, Sam catches sight of Danny in the neighbouring building and he brings out a ladder for the four of you to climb across. With no other choice, Sam reluctantly agrees with his plan.
“You guys go first, Y/N!”
“What? No! Somebody needs to hold the door, let Anika and Mindy go first, then I’ll be right behind you Sam. Go!”
Just as you instructed, you watch as the three of them slowly but safely make their way across the ladder. Once they were all in the safety of Danny’s apartment, they all cry out for you and you look at the door one last time before rushing to the window.
“Come on, Y/N! Slow and steady, you can do this!”
You were never really afraid of heights, but the thought of having to cross a very unstable ladder that was high up in the air just to escape a killer heightened your anxiety by tenfolds. You breathe in deeply before taking your first step, carefully shifting your body weight as needed to avoid making the ladder more than it needed to. The encouraging words that were once spilling from the audience standing at Danny’s window start to become less frequent and eventually stop all together, causing you to stop in your tracks. You look up at them for the first time and find all of them looking like deer caught in headlights.
“What?”
“Y/N, you have to move right now!” Mindy yells almost in desperation.
You turn your head and you find the familiar black and white mask managed to make it into Quinn’s bedroom. You’ve only made it just halfway across and with Ghostface now trying to throw you off the ladder, you tried to pick up your pace.
“Come on Y/N, you gotta move!” Sam yells as Mindy and Anika watch nervously, trying their best to help Danny weigh the ladder down and keep it stable. Despite their efforts, it becomes harder to keep yourself steady. Ghostface repeatedly tosses the ladder up and down and he eventually gets it to turn over on its side so it’s no longer parallel to the ground. Everyone who was watching scream and cry in horror, fearing you'd fall right off but you maintain a solid grip. You looked down and watched how your legs dangled in the air. Your hands were getting sweatier with each moment that passed by and Ghostface clearly wasn’t going to stop until he saw your body smothered on the ground beneath you.
“Y/N you can do this, we got you! Don’t look down!”
Their voices made you look up and you can see the desperation they had to keep you alive. Gathering all the energy you had left, you swing your body to give yourself momentum and cross the remainder of the ladder Tarzan style. You’re finally able to reach for Sam’s hand but you lose your grip on it when Ghostface gives the ladder one last toss, leaving you to hang on the ladder with one hand. The blood and sweat that was on your hand was making you slip more and more until you could no longer hold yourself up. As your hand releases the ladder, Sam, Mindy, and Anika scream at the sight of your body falling in the air. You curl yourself up in attempts to protect your head and break the fall using your left shoulder by making direct contact with the dumpster that was beneath you before rolling off of it and onto the ground. Your entire left shoulder, along with some of your ribs and God knows what other bones in your body, were definitely shattered from the impact and you also felt extremely light headed, but the important thing is you weren’t dead. You deliver that message to Ghostface when you catch him looking out the window, flipping him off with a smirk on your face as the three girls sob and breathe a sigh of relief.
You wake up on a stretcher just outside an ambulance to find Tara, Mindy, and Anika sitting in the back of the vehicle itself with its doors opened. You carefully try to move but pain shoots through your entire body like lightning. The younger Carpenter shoots her head in your direction when she sees you move and she’s quick to grab ahold of your hand.
“Y/N, you’re awake!”
“Hey there daredevil, how you holding up?” Mindy asks.
“I can’t lie, I'm pretty fucking high right now,” you smile and the three of them giggle.
“What you did back there was seriously insane. Like you wouldn’t believe her upper body strength, Tara! She deadass looked like Tarzan or something,” Anika explains excitedly, but it quickly dies down when Mindy starts to talk again.
“Okay but even though it was sort of impressive to watch, you’re still on my suspect list. That could’ve just been a little act to throw us off our tracks. We still don’t know a whole ton about you, other than the fact that you’re part monkey.”
“Hey, I’m no monkey, I'm a human being!” the amount of drugs in your system cause you to slightly slur your words. Mindy smirks and decides to use your woozy state against you all while Anika shoots her girlfriend a knowing smile.
“Hey Y/N, what do you think of Tara?”
“Mindy!” the girl in question protests.
“Tara? Oh golly, she’s an absolute gem!”
“Yeah? Think she’s pretty?”
“Pretty damn gorgeous if ya ask me!” Tara starts to blush at your honesty.
“Okay Mindy that’s enough, let Y/N re-”
“Chad..” Ethan emerges from the crowd and cautiously makes his way towards all of you, worried about the state of his friends at the moment. Chad, however, was unhappy to see his roommate and he slams Ethan against a car to question his whereabouts the previous night. Even after letting him go, Mindy doesn’t allow Ethan to step foot near you.
“Step the fuck back. You’re at the top of my list.”
“I had econ!”
“Ohhhh, econ!! What's econ?” you ask, clearly still in a drugged state.
-
You spend the day in the hospital trying to recover, immense pain still spreading through your body. But when Tara tells you about Gale getting attacked and their plan to try and catch Ghostface, you beg her to let you help out.
“Are you sure you want to be discharged now? You still have a long way to go before you’re anywhere near being fully healed,” the charge nurse asks as she hands you a few papers to sign.
“I wouldn’t do this if it weren’t important. There are lives on the line and I need to help out. Thanks for everything though.”
“Just be sure to take your meds and show up to those follow up appointments, young lady.”
You smile at the lady before making your way down to the hospital lobby where you meet Tara and everyone else.
“You look like absolute shit,” Chad teases.
“Yeah, well you try falling off a ladder then pretty boy” you retort, and he playfully lifts his arms up in surrender.
“Alright captain, where we headed?” you turn to Tara.
“I’ll explain everything along the way.”
“Wait, where’s Anika?”
“I told her it was best if she stayed out of it. She’s safe with her parents,” you nod your head in approval seeing as you definitely didn’t want to see more people getting hurt.
The seven of you travel through the streets of New York City until you’re met with the busy atmosphere of the subway stations. To what you were able to get from Tara’s explanation, there was a massive theatre that held Ghostface memorabilia from over the years, and you were going to try and lure him there so you could all attack him. Although some were protesting against the plan, you thought it was better than just standing around and waiting for his next attack.
The subways were particularly packed with commuters trying to make their way to the different Halloween parties being hosted all over the city. Almost everyone around you was wearing a costume so technically, you were the ones who stood out in the crowd. It was easy to get lost with the amount of people around, so you held onto Tara’s hand as tight as you could but you didn’t miss the glare burning into the back of your head from her sister.
Despite your efforts to stay with them, the number of people made it extremely difficult to keep up. Mindy trails behind you and calls out for Chad to wait up while you call out for Tara, but Danny and other civilians push their way onto the train to force you, Mindy, and Ethan to stay back on the platform and wait for the next one. You watch the train pass by before taking a look at Mindy who lets out a sigh of frustration. The two of you are startled by a hand that touches your shoulder which just turned out to be Ethan.
“Get your Ghostface ass away from us, Ghostface.”
“Wait, so you trust her but not me?”
“I saw Y/N fall off a ladder last night so I know where she was. I can't say the same for you, though.”
“I keep telling you guys I had econ!”
“Just keep your distance, Ghostface,” Mindy pulls you away from Ethan and you two walk further down the platform as you wait for the next train.
“Hey, did you notice his eye?” you ask Mindy while she tried to make him look away from the two of you.
“No, why? Did you see something?” she turns to you.
“It looked like it was starting to bruise. And if I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure I landed a right hook onto Ghostface last night. You think it’s a coincidence?”
“That’d be one hell of a coincidence. He definitely has to be Ghostface, I’m calling it right now. But you’re still not completely off the hook, got it buddy?” you give Mindy a tight lip smile and nod almost immediately, causing her to giggle at your nervous reaction.
-
The train ride was anything but pleasant. With the success of the Stab films, there were a number of Ghostface costumes on the train, causing you and Mindy to be on edge the entire time. Unfortunately, you and Mindy couldn’t stick close together due to the number of people separating you two, but you made sure to keep a close eye on her and to your surroundings.
But thanks to the flickering lights, it was hard to pay attention to your environment when you couldn’t see anything. You frantically turn your head in every direction to ensure you had every space covered and checking on Mindy if she was okay. When you turn your head to the left, you find a Ghostface mask who happened to be staring right at you. You want to think it’s just another random in a costume but the way he keeps his gaze fixed on you gives you the feeling it’s not just a random person.
Anxious, you try and make your way closer to Mindy so you could stay together but as soon as you started to move, he did too. There were a bunch of people in your way, leaving you no choice but to push through them and not even bothering to say sorry. At one point, the lights shut off and it takes a while for them to come back on. You continue your trek to Mindy but it’s no use because people were being bitches stubborn and wouldn’t move out of the way. You look back to see if Ghostface caught up to you, but you can’t make out anything in the dark. The lights finally come back on and Ghostface is nowhere to be seen, confirming your suspicions that it was most likely a stranger.
But when you turn back around to push your way through to Mindy, Ghostface is right in front of you. You attempt to scream but his hand is faster and immediately covers your mouth before pushing his knife right into your stomach. A muffled scream can’t be heard with how loud the train was and the people around you were, so you were left there to struggle and Mindy didn’t even know. He shoves the knife deeper into you and the two of you slowly fall to the ground, yet no one around you seemed to notice what was going on. Ghostface finally pulls the knife out and starts walking towards Mindy but you can’t get up to stop him. The announcer on the train comes on to indicate that the train will be arriving at the platform soon which catches him off guard, and you think he won’t have enough time to attack Mindy, but you were wrong. Ghostface quickly stabs Mindy approximately in the same area as he did with you before he makes a swift exit off the train. The two of you are clutching your stomachs, putting pressure to try and minimize some of the bleeding. Ethan notices both of you and immediately calls for help while he tries to drag both of you out of the train at the same time. He drops you by a nearby post where security guards gather and call for medical services.
“Are you guys okay?!”
“Yeah, we’re so good” Mindy’s sarcasm doesn’t fail to make an appearance despite being in pain.
“Goddammit. I got it wrong again! What the fuck?” she grunts in pain. You, on the other hand, start struggling to keep yourself awake. Your eyelids feel heavy and it’s becoming harder to breathe, the rest of your body feeling limp until your head crashes onto Mindy’s shoulder.
“Y/N, stay with me, come on!”
“I’m just gonna take a nap Min, don’t worry, I’ll be up in no time.” Mindy can feel her heart break hearing the nickname come from you for the first time. Her voice is the last thing you hear before finally letting your eyelids close themselves.
“Fuck this franchise.”

Turns out that impulsiveness looks pretty good on you.
Or so you think to yourself, catching your reflection in the mirror of the men’s room as you leave Jungkook to collect himself after giving him the best blow job of his life (your words - although, based on the look on his face as you’d swallowed, you might not be far off).
You hadn’t planned on dragging him into the bathroom like that, but upon seeing him walk out onto the terrace in that grey belted suit, looking like an absolute dream, well, you simply could not help yourself.
You also hadn’t meant to tell him you missed him last night. But you had, because you did. God, when had you turned into this - this massive simp? It was only yesterday morning that you’d woken up in Jungkook’s embrace. You’d barely spent 24 hours apart - so why were you so desperate to get back into his arms?
Of course, none of this matters right now. There are only minutes to go before the ceremony begins, and you need to pull your head out of the clouds and get back to Jennie and the others. Starting by escaping the men’s room sight unseen.
“YN!”
Or not.
As soon as you close the door, you hear Jin’s voice calling to you. He’s standing at the other end of the little hallway, near the entrance to the reception room.
“Hey,” you reply, trying to be the most nonchalant you’ve ever been in your life, as if you weren’t just gagging on Jungkook’s dick in a public bathroom.
Jin smiles as you approach, but there’s a gleam in his eye that makes you nervous, and you’re so busy trying to come up with a valid excuse for why he saw you emerging from the men’s room that you apparently forget how to walk, trip over the hem of your gown, and crash directly against his chest.
“Easy, tiger!” he laughs, arms locking around your back as he helps you stand back upright. “I’m used to ladies throwing themselves at me, but only you’ve taken it literally.”
You roll your eyes, but you’re pretty sure he’s not lying about fighting off admirers, given that he looks like a supermodel in his crisply tailored tuxedo. His bowtie is a little crooked thanks to being squashed by your face during your ungainly landing, so you gently fix it, and Jin thanks you with a soft grin.
“I left my glasses at home, so tell me - did I just see you leav-” Jin suddenly stops in the middle of his sentence, his gaze drifting over your shoulder. “Oh. Nevermind, I see.” He takes a step back, arms falling from your waist.
Another hand slips into yours.
Jungkook didn’t wait very long before following you out of the restroom. He squeezes your hand as you glance at him, but he stares directly at Jin, nostrils flaring slightly, eyes narrowed, lips pursed tightly as if - as if -
Oh, shit.
“You left this behind, jagiya.” Jungkook turns to you, his face shifting into a softer expression as he produces your clutch like some sort of trophy. You must’ve left it on the counter. “Did you want me to hold it during the ceremony?”
Your brain is lagging severely at the moment, trying to process two major facts at once. Fact one: Jin obviously realized that you were with Jungkook in the bathroom. Fact two: you completely forgot to tell Jungkook that Jin would be at the wedding. Which, given the events of the last 24 hours, it’s understandable that it slipped your mind, but this isn’t how you’d expected to officially introduce them. And he doesn’t exactly look thrilled to run into him now.
On top of that, Jungkook has asked you a question. And is now waiting for an answer, while Jin watches in polite silence.
“Um. Yes. Sorry, yes, can you keep an eye on it for me?”
Jungkook nods, tucking the clutch into his jacket and patting it lightly. “Of course,” he says, nodding solemnly, as if you’d just asked him to protect precious goods and not a cheap bag full of tissues and mints.
Jin clears his throat lightly.
“Oh! I’m sorry, Jin, this is Koo- Jungkook. Jungkook, Jin.”
Of all the ways for these two to meet, this might not be the most embarrassing, but it’s definitely up there. There’s still a bit of Jungkook’s taste lingering on your tongue as the two men shake hands, Jin wincing slightly.
You try to quickly fill Jungkook in. “Jin’s the best man.”
“Sure am.” Jin grins.
“He and Yoongi grew up together,” you add, ignoring Jin’s little interjection, knowing that Jungkook didn’t miss it based on the way his jaw flexes violently, as if he’s gnashing his teeth.
“Nice to meet you, Jungkook. That’s quite a grip you have there.” Jin slides his hands into his pockets. “YN’s told me a little about you.”
“Nice to meet you, too,” Jungkook replies, inclining his head slightly. His hand returns to yours, fingers locking firmly. “Wish I could say the same, but YN never mentions you.”
You try to control your face as you look at Jungkook. What did he just say?
Jin just grins wider. “So… she said you’re a dancer?”
“Yeah, I'm a dancer. But I’m also an artist,” Jungkook replies, chest puffing out slightly.
“Yes! You should see his work, Jin. He’s an incredibly talented painter,” you add, and the corner of Jungkook’s mouth twitches, like he’s holding back a smile. “I might actually have a photo on my phone…”
Jungkook doesn’t give you any time to check. “Y’know, I think I’ve heard of you. You’re a cook, right? I think my halmeoni watches your show.”
If Jungkook intended that as a jab, Jin shows no sign that he felt it. “Well, technically, I’m a chef. And a restaurateur. But yes, I do host a successful cooking program - actually, it’s about to be turned into a series for a major network.”
“Right. So like I said. You cook.”
Jin’s the one twitching now, his eyebrow rising slightly at Jungkook’s blasé tone. But rather than looking annoyed, Jin looks amused. Meanwhile, Jungkook is still glowering. You, though? Your smile feels a little strained as you try not to react to the snarky shots being fired off around you. Jungkook seems more rattled than you’d expected by Jin’s presence. You’ve never heard him talk like this.
“You’re right, I do cook a little,” Jin laughs. “I’d like to think I’m pretty good at it. But YN could tell you, since I’ve cooked for her a few times.” He glances at you, the sparkle in his eye you’d noted earlier back and twinkling a little too merrily for your comfort. “From what I remember, she’s been pretty satisfied every time.”
And you’d thought this couldn’t get any more awkward than running into Jin post-beej. How silly of you.
Jungkook’s fingers grip yours tighter. “And yet not satisfied enough to ever bring it up. Huh. Sounds like it was kinda forgettable.”
Jin’s eyes flicker to yours questioningly and you cringe, still struggling to come up with anything to say that could make this conversation less tense. At this point, you’d be better off wishing for the ground to open up beneath you, as useless as your brain is being.
Jin coughs. “Anyway, YN, Yoongi asked me to tell you to tell Jennie that the officiant is running a little late. Nothing to worry about!” he adds hastily upon seeing your concerned face. “Just caught in traffic. But on his way.”
Great, another thing for Jennie to stress out about. “Okay. I’ll let her know.”
Guests are starting to fill up the rows of chairs on the other side of the glass wall. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Lisa heading towards you, waving your bouquet. Thankful for the interruption, you stretch out your hand.
“Come on, we’re cutting it close on time!” she announces. “Hey, what happened to your lipstick?”
“Uh…” Rather than answer, you opt for escape, tugging on Jungkook’s hand lightly to urge him to follow you. “One sec, Lis. Come on, Jungkook, let’s find you a seat.”
“See you at the altar!” Jin calls behind you, and you wince, feeling Jungkook stiffen momentarily.
There’s an empty chair on the end of a row on the bride’s side. Jungkook folds himself into it, placing your clutch delicately on his lap.
“Um, so, we already took photos earlier, so I’ll just come find you after the ceremony.”
“Okay.” Jungkook chews on his bottom lip, nodding.
An unsettling feeling comes over you. Should you apologize for not telling him about Jin? Or say something about what just happened in the hallway? What did just happen, anyway?
Through the glass, you can see Lisa waving, pointing at her watch. Shit. Whatever happened, you’ll just have to talk about it later.
As you turn to leave, Jungkook grabs your wrist. He threads his fingers through yours, pulling you closer to him, until his lips brush your cheek. “See you soon, jagiya.” He gives you another soft smile, sunlight sparkling in his eyes. The angry scowl from the hallway is nowhere to be seen.
Your head is a mess as you follow Lisa. How had you not mentioned to Jungkook that Jin would be here? Damn, maybe he was right - maybe you really never talk about Jin.
Both men had warned you when you started dating them that they could get competitive. Apparently that meant passive aggressive disses and weirdly possessive behavior. If this is how the two of them are going to behave, you’re in for a long day.
A small room cordoned off from the rest of the rooftop restaurant has been turned into the bride’s waiting room. Jisoo’s doing a last pass on Jennie’s makeup when you arrive. She takes one look at you and reaches for a tube of lipstick sitting on the makeshift vanity.
“Babe, what happened to you? You look stressed.”
Rosé hums in agreement. “I expected you to stumble in here looking more satisfied than that. You dragged Jungkook away at lightning speed!”
“Pucker up,” Jisoo orders you, and you obey, letting her fix your lips.
“Mmm, well, I found her talking to both Jungkook and Jin in the hallway, so maybe that has something to do with it?” Lisa pipes up, eyebrow raised.
“Oh shit, did something go down?” Rosé asks, a little too excited for your taste.
“Well, actually,” you start to say, then shake your head. This is the last thing you need right now. This day is too important to be derailed by your love life. “I’m fine. Everything’s fine. Oh, but Jin did say that the officiant’s running a little late, Jennie. He’s on his way, so there’s no need to panic, but the ceremony might start a few minutes later than planned.”
“Oh, see, Jennie? I told you there was no reason to worry - now you’re not the only one who’s late!”
“Jisoo!” Lisa hisses. Rosé covers her mouth to suppress her giggles.
Jennie, who has been sitting silently since you walked in, inspecting her appearance in the makeup mirror, lets out a strangled sound that’s a cross between a laugh and a wail, and buries her face in her hands.
“Girl, please do not make me fix your makeup again,” Jisoo pleads as she crouches next to Jennie. You pull up a chair next to her and sigh, rubbing Jennie’s arm lightly.
“Ji’s lame attempts at humor aside, how are you feeling?” you ask.
Your best friend is absolutely radiant in her white gown, dark hair tumbling in gentle waves down her back as she turns to you.
“I’m still okay. I know things were a little… dramatic yesterday, but really, I’m okay today. You guys don’t have to keep asking me how I’m feeling.” Jennie clasps your hands, giving you a soft smile. “I’m excited and I’m nervous but more than all of that I’m ready to marry the love of my life.” She pauses. “I think maybe I should use the bathroom again, though. I guess I have some time.”
“I’ll help you,” Lisa volunteers, gathering Jennie’s train and following her out of the room.
You’re quiet until the door closes behind them. “Okay, was anyone else expecting her to freak out about the ceremony starting late?”
“She’s keeping it together, somehow,” Jisoo shrugs. “I think she’s still a bit in shock, honestly. But she’ll be okay.”
“She’s fine, as long as no one mentions anything about the you-know-what,” Rosé informs you, crossing her arms as she glares at Jisoo.
“You don’t have to censor yourself when she’s not in the room.” Jisoo rolls her eyes.
Your friends fall into their usual bickering, but you’re too deep in your thoughts about Jennie to bother telling them to knock it off. Maybe Jisoo’s right and she’s still adjusting. Just another reason to try to stay focused on her and make sure everything goes perfectly for her and Yoongi.
It’s the least you can do for your friend, after the day she had yesterday.
Tumblr media
Yesterday
Friday morning brings you a sweet surprise. You weren’t expecting to wake up with Jungkook in your bed. He spent most of the night making you forget all about Taehyung’s joking offer to drop to his knees at your promise to help him, doing such a good job that you’d almost forgotten your own name, too. You’d figured he’d slip out in the middle of the night after you’d fallen asleep.
You were wrong. He’s still here, all messy bedhead and sleepy eyes, laughing quietly about alarm clocks and wrapping you up in his arms. He follows you like a puppy as you start your morning routine - into the shower, back into your room, and then into your kitchen - and honestly it’s no wonder that you decide to take the day off to spend it with him. The thought of repeating yesterday and hanging out with him all day is too tempting to refuse. Even though you’ll see him pretty much all day tomorrow at the wedding - look, if he’s down for it, then why not?
And then somehow the universe decides that your day has only been maybe a solid eight out of ten so far and decides to kick it up a few more notches, by offering you a possible life boat off the sinking ship that is your job.
Hey YN!
I know this is ridiculously fast, but my company has an opening, and I think you’d be great for the job! Long story short someone unexpectedly quit yesterday, so now we have a position we  need to fill immediately. I hope it’s okay, but I’ve given your name to our VP in charge of hiring and she’d like to bring you in for an interview! She asked me to reach out and see if you’d be all right with coming in next week - I know that’s fast, but this is for a new project that’s being rushed to production so we really need someone to crunch some numbers ASAP!
Let me know if you’re interested!
Best,
Wendy
As if that’s not enough, Jungkook offers to help you practice for the interview, and suddenly you can’t see through the hearts in your eyes. Could he be any sweeter? You thank him, and he kisses you, and you melt, lost in his warmth.
Jungkook’s voice brings you back to reality. “How many more emails do you need to answer?”
“Um…” you stare at your laptop. “Let me just respond to Wendy and then I’m done.”
“Cool.” Jungkook stretches. His t-shirt rises with the motion, his Adonis belt briefly visible, and you know he’s caught your stare when he smirks. You quickly turn back to your computer, but he just wraps his arms around your shoulders, catching you in a back hug.
“I’m gonna go home and take off these dirty clothes,” he murmurs, teeth nipping your earlobe. “Come find me when you’re done. I’ll be waiting.”
“Fuck,” you breath. Jungkook laughs, obviously pleased at the effect he has on you. He’s such a tease sometimes. You’re trying to figure out how to flip the tables on him when your ringtone starts trilling.
Be still, my heaaaaart…
“Oh god, I bet that’s my boss, wanting to talk me out of taking off.” You frown as you check the screen. “Shit, it’s Jisoo. I gotta take this.”
“Hey, do you have a second?” Jisoo’s voice comes through a little strained. And loud. She’s talking over some sort of high-pitched wailing. It takes you a minute to figure out that it’s a person’s voice making that sound.
“Ji! What’s going on? Wait, what’s that sound? Is that Jennie? Is she crying?”
“Yeah, that’s Jennie. She’s - she’s had - well,” Jisoo sighs. “Look, I’m over at her place because I wanted to treat her to a manicure today because I know she’s been too busy to schedule one and you know how she gets about her nails so I thought it would be a nice surprise but when I got here - oh, you know what, this is not important to the story, why am I telling you this?”
“Just get to the point, Ji!”
“I’m trying! I’m sorry, it’s been a big morning and - what?” There’s a muffled conversation happening suddenly, and you stare blankly at your computer as you wait for Jisoo to return. You don’t know what the hell is going on, but you don’t like any of it.
“Just ask her to come over!” you hear Lisa say in the background. Lisa’s at Jennie’s, too?
“I was getting to that!”
With a frustrated sigh, you try to get Jisoo’s attention. “Okay, okay, I’m coming over!”
“Do you mind? I know you have to work-”
“No, I’m not working today, I….” You pause, knowing that Jungkook’s just in the kitchen, likely able to hear everything you’re saying, not wanting to embarrass yourself by admitting that you took the day off just to be with him. “It’s a long story, I’ll explain when I get there.”
You don’t end up explaining anything once you arrive. That’s because as soon as Lisa opens Jennie’s door, she greets you with a tiny white stick bearing two little pink lines. Rosé is right behind her, beaming from ear to ear.
“Oh my god.”
“I know!” Lisa grins, throwing her hands in the air. “Baby Min, coming to you soon!”
You frown, glancing over Lisa’s shoulder. “Where is she?”
The sound of Jennie’s crying gets louder as you approach the master suite. When Lisa stops outside the bedroom closet, you grab her arm.
“Before I go in there - are those happy tears or sad tears?” You’re pretty sure you already know the answer, but you need to know what to expect.
Lisa grimaces. “Somewhere in the middle, I think.”
Jennie’s curled up beneath the hangers of clothing stuffed into the closet that she shares with Yoongi. She’s wearing one of his oversized hoodies, sniffling into the black material as Jisoo, smushed into the corner beside her, carefully untangles herself.
“Tag, you’re in,” she says, taking the hand you offer to pull her to her feet.
There’s not a lot of room for you but you squish yourself in as best you can, and immediately tuck Jennie against you. Jisoo closes the door behind you.
“Hi, babe.”
“Hi,” Jennie’s voice is wavery and small, so far from her usual confident, cheerful tone, that it hurts your heart. “Did they tell you?”
“I saw.”
Jennie settles against you, hiccuping slightly through her tears. “This wasn’t part of the plan.”
“I know.”
Jennie has been mapping out her and Yoongi’s future pretty much since the day they met. They both want to start a family, but Jennie insists that they enjoy their honeymoon period first. And she’s determined to make tenure at the school where she teaches before taking time off to have kids. She wants to have it all, but at her own pace and on her own terms. Which means timing everything out so meticulously. So carefully.
Gently, you brush a lock of hair from her wet cheek. “So… do you know how…”
Jennie sighs. “Pretty sure it was the night of my bachelorette party. I came home and Yoongi asked how it went and um, I kinda couldn’t stop talking about my lap dance.” Your friend’s face flushes at the memory, and you bite back a grin. You’ll have to tell Jungkook he left a lasting impression. “And Yoongi… well, you know how he gets competitive sometimes?”
You can’t help it. You burst into laughter.
“Yoongi gave you a lap dance?!”
“God, I wish I’d seen that,” Jisoo says from the other side of the closet door. “I’d love to know if he’s got moves.”
In all your years of friendship, you’d never known Yoongi to do more than a simple side-shuffle whenever Jennie would drag him onto a dance floor. The thought of him performing an erotic lapdance is too much for even your overactive imagination to conceive.
Jennie just smiles to herself. “Believe me, he does.” She glances at you shyly. “He’d kill me for telling you this but… you don’t think Jin choreographed his routine all by himself, do you?” she laughs, referring to the night Jin danced for you, and your brain breaks a little trying to picture Yoongi doing the same moves.
The closet door flies open.
“I’m gonna need to hear every last detail about that,” Lisa proclaims.
“Same,” Rosé adds, and Jennie laughs for the first time since you arrived. She sits up, dabbing at her face with the sleeves of Yoongi’s hoodie.
“Ugh, my face is going to be so puffy tomorrow.”
“No, it won’t. We’ll take care of you,” Jisoo promises, already on her feet. “I’ll go raid your kitchen for supplies. Do you have any cucumbers?” She’s gone before Jennie can answer, Lisa scrambling behind her.
“Anyway… we always use protection, but you know how they say it’s not 100% foolproof? Yeah, turns out they’re telling the truth.” She stares at her sweater paws, suddenly forlorn again, and you give her a tight squeeze.
“I’m sorry, babe. I know this is… a lot.”
“Yeah. And I just…” You don’t say anything, just wait patiently until she finds the words she’s searching for. “I just feel like a failure. You know? Like, it’s so stupid, but…” She shrugs. “I feel like everything’s ruined now.”
“Oh, Jennie, no!” Wrapping both arms around her, you sigh. “Accidents happen. That’s life! You can make all the plans you want but you can’t control everything. There’s chaos everywhere! And even if you do your best to avoid it, sometimes it gets through. And it’s not always bad! I mean… look at me and Jungkook. He came out of nowhere. I didn’t plan to start dating him and Jin at the same time. I didn’t know it was gonna get serious. I thought…” you trail off, realizing you’re making it about yourself. “Sorry, this is not about me.”
“No, it’s ok, finish your thought. Tangents and diversions are good right now,” Jennie informs you.
You bite your lip, weighing your words. “Back when Jin and I met, when you introduced us, I just thought… this is it. This is my chance to have what Jennie and Yoongi have. Something real. Something safe and steady.”
Jennie nods, encouraging you to continue.
“And then Jungkook… he’d always been so close but I’d never gotten to know him. He came in and opened my eyes to another possibility. To something exciting and different and - and passionate, and, oh god, I sound like a shitty romance novel, don’t I?” Burying your face in your hands, you laugh.
“No, go on!!” Rosé says.
“I’m just trying to say - plans don’t always work out. But that doesn’t mean you’re a failure. And sometimes, the unexpected can be exactly what you want. Or need.”
Jennie sighs, and you can feel her relaxing against you for the first time since you sat down beside her.
“I hear what you’re saying. And I’d like to believe that. It’s just… really difficult for me to accept that I’m not always in control.”
“That’s a fucking mood,” Jisoo says, returning from the kitchen with a mug of tea in her hand. Lisa carries a bowl of some sort of cucumber concoction, and the two of them settle on the floor outside the closet.
Rosé scoots across the carpet until she’s close enough to take one of Jennie’s hands. “Back to your chaos, if that’s what we’re calling it. Is it too soon to ask you what you’re gonna do?”
Jennie groans, pulling the oversized hood over her head.
“I’m gonna take that as a yes.”
“I just want to get through the wedding,” Jennie states, voice muffled by the soft fabric. “I’m getting married tomorrow! And I don’t want anything to - to ruin it. Or make things weird, or more stressful than they already are. I mean, fuck, I think my halmeoni is already upset that we’re not doing a traditional wedding. Imagine if she finds out I got knocked up before marriage!”
“Okay, then we’ll make sure no one finds out tomorrow.” Lisa glances at everyone and you all nod in a wordless pact. “We’ll do whatever it takes to make sure your day is as perfect as you’ve planned. You know we will!”
“Does Yoongi know?”
Jennie peels her hood back to look at you. She shakes her head.
“I took the test this morning, after he left for work. I’ve been so busy lately that I didn’t even realize I was late until today! Ji was the first person to find out when she showed up, and then she called the rest of you.” She pauses, fiddling with her sleeves again. “I think I’m going to wait to tell him until after the wedding. We’ll need to have a serious talk, and there’s too much going on right now.” She glances up. “Is that - do you think that’s okay?”
Once again, she seems lost. This time, when you go in for a hug, Rosé joins you.
“Babe, you can tell him whenever you’re ready! It’s your body.”
“Yeah, but we’re in this together…”
“And you’ll be in it together still, no matter if you tell him today or tomorrow or next week.” Jisoo declares. She holds the mug out to Jennie. “And we’ll be here too.”
“Yes. Maybe this is good chaos. Maybe it’s bad. It’s up to you to decide how to react - how to move forward. Whatever you decide, you know we’ll be by your side the whole time,” you declare, your sentiments echoed by the other girls.
Jennie blows lightly on the steaming drink. “I don’t know what I did to deserve you guys,” she says, choking up slightly, and everyone else starts talking at once.
“You deserve the world!” Rosé coos.
Lisa shakes her head. “We’re the lucky ones, babe, having you in our lives!”
“How’m I gonna depuff your face if you keep crying?” Jisoo tuts.
You just rise to your feet, laughing. “Come on. Ji said something about manicures earlier. Let us pamper you today, so you’re ready to knock Yoongi off his apparently very talented feet tomorrow.”

NOW
The officiant is only a few minutes late, and the ceremony goes off without a single hitch. You and the other bridesmaids join the groomsmen flanking Yoongi at the altar. In addition to Jin, there’s Yoongi’s brother Geum-jae, and two of his friends from work, Yi-jeong and Woosung.
As a string quartet plays the wedding march, Jennie walks down the aisle, beaming more brightly than the sun, and you catch a glimpse of Yoongi’s face, bearing such an openly reverent expression that it makes your eyes flood with tears. The officiant begins his speech, and Jennie and Yoongi stare at one another as if the rest of the world has fallen away, with nothing left but the two of them and their love.
Watching them almost feels like you’re intruding on a private moment, so you turn your face to the rows of guests, searching without thought for Jungkook, smiling when you find him already gazing your way. Your chest nearly buzzes as warmth spreads there, matching the glow in his eyes.
Because Jennie and Yoongi chose to take photos before the ceremony, there’s no cocktail hour after the ceremony. Instead, everyone is seated for dinner. The happy couple sits at a table for two on a small dais in the front of the room.
There are no tables large enough for the entire wedding party. There are also no seating arrangements for all of you, either. Jennie had worked very hard on the seating chart for all of the guests except the wedding party. (“You guys figure it out. I’m tired.”) So you quickly claim a seat at one of the two empty tables left open, with Jungkook taking the spot next to you on one side and Jisoo the other, with Rosé next to her.
As the wait staff brings out the first course, you slide your chair a little closer to Jungkook. “Hey. I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you that Jin would be here.”
Jungkook’s eyes widen slightly. “Oh. Jagi, it’s ok.”
“Yeah, I’m not sure it is,” you reply. “That was not the way I wanted to introduce the two of you. It was, uh, not ideal.”
Jungkook’s silent as he sips his water. He works his bottom lip between his teeth again, and you wish you could see inside his head, could get some sense of what he’s thinking, because sitting here waiting for him to say something makes your stomach churn a bit.
Finally, he sighs, reclining back in his seat as he looks at you. “I’m sorry if I made that uncomfortable. I wasn’t expecting to see him.”
“I know. I’m sorry I didn’t mention he was part of the wedding. Truly, it slipped my mind.” Repeatedly. You bite your lip, struggling to figure out what to say. This doesn’t have to be a thing, but you also don’t want them at each other’s throats all night. “But there’s no reason it has to be weird or ruin the night. Because I’m here with you, Kookie. Not him.”
Your pulse begins to pound. It’s like you’ve just laid your heart on the line. Jungkook’s furrowed brows relax, doe eyes blinking slowly as he absorbs your words.
“Is this seat taken?”
You turn to find Jin standing with a hand on the empty chair across from you.
Jisoo lets out a tiny “Yessss, game on,” and you covertly kick her under the table.
“Uh, I think Lisa is going to -” Glancing around, you don’t finish your sentence as you spy your friend sitting with the groomsmen. Oh, right. Lisa has her eye on Yi-jeong, having basically all but explicitly called dibs that morning when she saw him in his tuxedo. You can’t really blame her. “Nevermind.”
“Please, join us,” Jungkook offers, gesturing to the table. He says it so kindly that you can’t help but gawk at him in surprise. He doesn’t meet your gaze, but his palm rests on your thigh, rubbing lightly. Reassuringly.
Your heartbeat returns to normal as Jin smiles. “Thanks.”
Despite the ceremony being so modern, Jennie and Yoongi opted for more traditional dishes for dinner. For several minutes, there’s mostly an easy silence over the table, as everyone enjoys the janchi guksu and banchan in front of them, only the noise of clinking utensils filling the air. Well, that and the sound of the servers running back and forth to the bar, trying to keep up with drink orders.
Jisoo, as usual, is the first one to break the silence.
“Okay, Jin, professional opinion on the guksu?”
Jin chews thoughtfully for a few minutes. “I think they went a little heavy on the spicy soy sauce in the broth, but the noodles are just as tender as the ones I make. Oh, but you’ve had my noodles, YN, what do you think? Do they compare?”
All eyes focus on you, including Jungkook’s. You swallow quickly. “Um, I think these are just as good! And I really like the broth, to be honest.”
“You do like it spicy,” Jungkook murmurs under his breath, quiet enough that only you can hear him, and when you glance over, you’re met with that teasing smirk of his. It’s back again. For some reason, that’s more comforting to you than Jungkook’s hand on your thigh. Your heart does a somersault. It’s getting a real workout tonight.
“You know, I never really thought about it, but it must be hard for you to eat in public. People are probably always asking you for your opinions on their food, or tips on how to make it better,” Rosé says.
Jin shrugs. “Comes with the territory, I guess. I’m not gonna complain if people value what I think - and I’m always happy to help anyone improve their skills.” He swirls his wine glass before taking a sip. “But I suppose there can be a downside, too. Sometimes I just want to enjoy a meal without being asked to provide a full critique.”
“I can understand that,” Jungkook replies. Again the other heads at the table swivel.
“You can?”
Jungkook nods. “Yeah. Like, right now, I bet you’re all expecting me to be the first on the dance floor, right?” He laughs as everyone suddenly becomes very interested in their meals. “It’s okay. That’s how it is whenever I’m out with friends. I can’t just sit at the bar and have a drink. And I definitely can’t just sway with the crowd. Everyone expects me to show off.”
“I mean, I’m definitely hoping to see you turn up,” Rosé confirms, and Jungkook laughs again, gesturing at his point being proven.
“Sure, that sounds annoying. But outside of going out with your friends, how often are you in a situation where you’re asked to dance? People stop me everywhere. When I’m out shopping. When I’m on a plane. I even once had someone ask me for deglazing tips while I was at a funeral! It’s not quite the same as being asked to do the robot at the club.” Jin shakes his head dismissively.
Rosé mumbles, “I thought you weren’t gonna complain…?”
The two men eye each other for a few seconds as you hold your breath. Then Jungkook huffs out a laugh.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. It’s not the same. That sucks, dude.”
You exhale, settling back in your seat.
Jin just hums, eyes darting back and forth between you and Jungkook before he speaks. “I suppose it’s just a small price to pay for being so successful.” He tips his wine glass back, emptying it. “Where are the servers hiding? I need a refill.”
“See, this is one of the benefits of being a financial analyst - absolutely no one wants to talk to me about what I do,” you grin.
“That’s because no one understands what you do,” Jisoo declares.
“She’s right.”
“Thanks, Rosé.”
Jisoo points her spoon at Jungkook. “Okay, but real talk, you are going to dance tonight, aren’t you? You wouldn’t deny us a show!”
“Ji, we just had an entire conversation about this!” you groan, throwing your hands up. “Can you not?”
“What? I’m just saying! The man is a born performer. Right?”
She looks at Jungkook, who nearly chokes on his wine in his haste to answer.
“Uh. Yes?”
“Right. So there’s no way you’ll leave us disappointed.”
“Let me get this straight - if Jungkook doesn’t dance for you, you’ll be disappointed?” you ask. “Hold on while I call Jimin and Taehyung real quick. Wait, sorry, I mean Min and Tae.”
“All I know is suffering,” Jisoo sighs.
“Oh, relax, Kitty Cat,” Rosé giggles, nearly doubling over at the confused look on Jin’s face.
As Jisoo loudly laments her choice of friends, Jungkook bends towards you, mouth brushing your ear.
“Don’t worry, jagi, whether or not I dance here, you can still have a private performance later. I’d never deny you.”
Heat works its way through your body as you shift in your seat, squirming slightly from the low rumble of his voice and the promise laced within. There’s a sudden prickling at the nape of your neck, that nagging sensation of someone watching you, but when you follow the feeling and glance over at Jin, he’s staring at his empty wine glass.
The tapping of a fork against stemware draws your attention to the married couple’s table. To your immense relief, Yoongi and Jennie had decided to nix the best man and maid of honor toasts, opting to say a few words themselves. Normally, Jennie does all the talking for the pair, but to your surprise, Yoongi rises to his feet, and the room falls silent.
“Jennie and I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for coming. It means the world to us that you took the time out of your busy lives to celebrate with us.” He glances down at his bride, who smiles back, and Yoongi’s gummy grin gets bigger than you’ve ever seen it. “As you all know, Jennie and I have been together since our first year of college. We’ve been through so much together - college, grad school, finding jobs, losing jobs, moving from apartment to apartment - but we weathered it all, because we always had each other.”
Jennie’s cheeks are wet as she smiles at her husband. Yoongi takes her hand.
“Jennie, I don’t know what life has to throw at us yet, but I want you to know that I’m never worried, as long as I have you by my side.” He presses a kiss to the back of her hand, and there’s a chorus of awwww’s from the guests, including yourself. Jisoo rolls her eyes, but they’re already spilling over with tears, and you poke her in the side as she laughs.
“Here’s to you, my love. And to all of you with us here tonight. We can’t thank you enough for your love and support. Geonbae!” He raises his glass.
“Cheers!” his brother shouts, and the cry is echoed around the room as everyone raises their glasses to the couple.
Just when you think you couldn’t be happier, once again you feel a hand slip into yours, pressing palm to palm, fingers threading through. Jungkook doesn’t say a word, too busy clinking his drink against everyone else’s, but his hand tightens around yours when you look at him, and you feel as though you could float right through the ceiling if it weren’t for his strong grip.
To think that you nearly hadn’t asked him to come here with you. What a mistake that would’ve been. Thank god you’d ignored the constant fear and doubt in your head and listened only to the steady sureness of your heart.
You’re getting better at it.

YESTERDAY
After you coax her out of the closet, you and your friends turn Jennie’s apartment into a mini spa, trying to help the bride-to-be relax. By mid-afternoon, as everyone is giving each other manicures, you realize that the window on your day with Jungkook is swiftly closing, so you text him to let him know you won’t be coming home any time soon.
Not long after that, the door to Jennie’s apartment opens, and Yoongi walks in, trailed by Jin.
Jennie greets her fiancé happily, hugging him with her hands held straight out so as not to smudge her pretty new pink tips. “You’re home early!”
“Couldn’t focus. Decided to call it a day.” As ever, Yoongi seems completely unfazed to see you and your friends at his apartment. Sometimes you wonder what it would take to ruffle him. Probably something extreme like the zombie apocalypse. “Figured I’d grab my stuff and then get some dinner with Jin.”
Although they weren’t holding to every tradition, Jennie had insisted that they spend the night before the wedding apart. So Yoongi would be crashing at Jin’s tonight.
Jin nods at the sound of his name. “By ‘get some dinner’, he means ‘take advantage of his friend’s restaurant and score a free meal.’”
“As if you weren’t the one who offered,” Yoongi drawls, ignoring Jin’s squeaky chuckling.
“Sounds good, baby,” Jennie smiles as Yoongi presses a kiss to her cheek before he shuffles down the hallway towards their bedroom. “Do you guys wanna get some takeout?”
While Lisa, Rosé, and Jennie argue about what they feel like eating, Jin catches your eye. “Hey, you got a second?” He jerks his head towards Jennie’s kitchen. Rising from the couch, you follow, closing the door behind you.
“What’s u-oh!” Your question becomes an exclamation when Jin suddenly pulls you in for a hug, long arms wrapping around your waist as he holds you tight.
“Just wanted to get you alone,” he says, nose brushing yours as he smiles. “Hi.”
This is where the butterflies should come in. Standing this close to this incredible specimen of a man, this paragon of perfection, would normally send them flittering through you. Shivers should be running down your spine. Any number of excited reactions should be happening right now.
Right.
Now.
Except… they’re not.
“Hi,” you echo, grinning a bit weakly. Jin doesn’t seem to notice anything wrong with your smile, locking his hands behind your back.
“I heard you got some good news today.”
Your eyes widen as your stomach goes into freefall.
“You know?”
How? How on earth could he know about Jennie being pregnant?? Shit, did Lisa leave the pee stick out somewhere? Jisoo told her to put it -
“Of course I know! It’s my show.”
“It’s your show?” What the fuck does that mean??
Jin honks in delighted laughter at your obvious confusion. “The interview Wendy emailed you about - that’s for my show! The one Nosh picked up?”
The room tilts as gravity returns your stomach to normal. “Oh! Oh, wow!” Of course. The new project Wendy had referenced - it was Jin’s cooking show! “Wait, so we might be working together?”
“Yes! Er, maybe! I don’t know how closely or whatever, but basically, the Nosh execs told me Wendy’s firm is responsible for budgeting and figuring out revenue streams and - and that’s really all I remember, sorry.” He laughs. “Most of what they said went straight over my head, to be honest. But I spoke to her on a conference call today and she told me they had an open position for the team that’s assigned to my show, and she’d asked you to interview.”
“Wow, that’s really…” you trail off, lost in thought. “Isn’t it… the other night at the networking reception, weren’t you saying it might be a travel show?” You have a vague memory of Jin telling you what he wanted to do with his show if it got picked up by a network.
“That’s right. I pitched it as an exploration of local delicacies that often get overlooked by tourists. I’ll be going around the country, visiting tiny, off the beaten path restaurants and bars, and learning how to make their favorite dishes.”
Traveling for work. That was one of the perks Wendy had rattled off when she’d given you the sales pitch for her company. So, if you got this job, did that mean you’d be traveling with Jin?
Your mind is already wandering, thinking about what this new job might entail, when Jin brings a hand up to cup your face. His thumb traces your jawline.
“Wouldn’t it be amazing? You and I, on the road together. Me, discovering new meals to cook for you…” His voice drops, a low murmur meant only for you to hear. “Maybe picking up some new dance moves to show off…”
He rolls his hips slightly, jostling you right out of your tumultuous thoughts.
“Doesn’t that sound good?”
“It does,” you reply, mouth moving on autopilot, not waiting for your head to decide if it agrees.
“I know I haven’t had the time to take you out properly, and I’m sorry for that. But this is my chance to show you that I’m still in this.” He sucks in a deep breath. “I like you. And I’m hoping it’s not too late for me to say that.”
If this were a romantic movie, the music would swell now, strings soaring as he tips your mouth towards his. It’s a perfect moment, lush lips caressing yours, sweet and unhurried, lingering like he doesn’t care if anyone else walks in.
It’s a perfect moment, for sure. Just, not for you.
“Jin,” you begin, stepping out of his embrace, “I need to tell you something.”

The clock strike 11.09 pm when you clicked the shutdown tab on your P.C. sighing in relief as your work for today and this week was finally over, so you can spend your weekend peacefully now. No more calls to answer, files to go through, screen to stare at… just a weekend filled with sleeping in late, Netflix, junk greasy food, and calmness.
It was pretty late at night and way past working hours which meant that almost everyone on your floor had already left and the only source of light on the floor had been previously from your dimly lit screen and the night lights on the ceiling. There wasn’t a single sound on the floor except for your steps hurrying towards the elevator.
“Y/N? You’re working overtime again?” a deep voice from behind you asked. A voice which made your eye roll out of annoyance as if on cue. “Hello to you to Mr. Kim. And yes, I am working overtime again. Are you surprised?” turning around scoffed at his fake concern. Both of you were now waiting for the elevator.
“Amused. I thought after becoming the head of R&D you’ll cut some slack… guess I was wrong.” he whispered the last part right above your ear, heat spreading to your cheeks at this action of his. “You’re becoming quite bold nowadays” chuckling nervously as you took a step away from him. A smirk unbeknownst to you adorning his lips at your nervousness.
“Guess I’m following in your steps. You’re working overtime too.” Your eyes searched his tired face as you waited for a reply, he looked worn out and eye bags under his eyes reflected the lack of sleep in his daily routine. His skin also looked paler than usual and- why the hell am I noticing so much?
“Well…yes but it’s not because of work.” He turned his head to look down at you sideways. The look in his eyes made you even more nervous, you felt like a prey, and he was the predator ready to pounce at you any moment. It was hot, hell he was hot, the hottest man alive…get yourself together y/n!
The safe distance you had created between both of you was intruded by him as shifted closer to you, eyes not leaving for a moment. “What man in his right senses would work overtime without any reason?” opting to sarcasm was your defence mechanism, ever in a situation you can’t escape? Be sarcastic or so you thought because what Doyoung said next made your eyes almost pop out.
“Who said I’m in my senses? For a while now I am going insane because of you-” he was interrupted mid-sentence when the elevator doors opened, and you almost jumped inside. “It’s here!” To say the least, Doyoung was disappointed with the timing of the elevator and how you avoided him in the elevator as if he was a stranger.
“Will you please stop staring?” you had tried your best to ignore him but just couldn’t. “Why? Does it make you nervous when I stare?" A devilish grin made its way to his lips, contented with the effect he had on you. “Doyoung please! What’s gotten into you? Did the work toll on your mental health or what? You weren’t like this before.”
A childish glint appeared in his eyes at the mention of the name. Not Mr. Kim or Sir but Doyoung, he never liked the sound of his name like this before. “I was always like this, it’s just you took time to notice.” again he shifted closer to you making you trapped between him and the wall.
“I’m done okay, do whatever you want.” his laugh reverberated throughout the small space as you scoffed. “Sorry, let’s change the topic.” “Thank you.”
“I liked hanging out with your friends the other day.” he confessed out of the blue. It has been three weeks since that unfortunate event and he just had to bring that up now?
Liked meeting your friends even if you had asked him not to? Accepted he meant no harm and was there just to return the pen drive you left behind but his presence and the tension between both of you had led your friends to assume there way more to the relationship you strictly labelled as coworkers.
“I’ll let them know.” you answered in a monotonous tone. “By the way, that Kiho guy… are you two seeing each other?” baffle would be a predicament to his statement, you were shocked. Firstly, because who was he to ask such a personal question, and secondly how could he think you would date Kiho?
You had better type than Kiho, and thought Doyoung must be aware that he’s someone you’re interested in- what? Is this the moment of realization for me? WHAT!?
“No, we’re just friends, not even best friends.” you explained while trying to not focus on the feelings which were surfacing for the man beside you. “You know he was being very touchy and flirty considering you’re just friends.” maybe you’re being delusional or was Doyoung actually jealous?
“It’s because he’s single and we met for the first time after long that he suddenly found me attractive to be his girlfriend. You know Glow Up.” You chuckled, remembering his behaviour during the hangout. “Didn’t he have eyes to see your beauty?” Doyoung grumbled. “I- did you just call me beautiful?” unable to believe your ears you questioned. “Pretty cannot define your beauty because everything about you is beautiful.”
“Are you doing drugs?” you laughed walking out of the elevator. “Y/n believe me, I saw your college pics, your friend showed them to me while you were away and if I had been there… I would have fallen in love with you way earlier.”
“You can’t be serious right now…” it was happening, Doyoung was confessing his love for you, something –no matter how much you try to deny– you waited for all these days. “Do you trust me?” you nodded your head as he pulled you closer to him, a hand resting on your back while he gently placed the other on your cheek, his breath hot on your face.
“Then trust me in showing you how beautiful you are. I’m so thankful to Kiho and every other guy who didn’t see you the way I do, because I can’t risk losing you. Trust me y/n in worshipping you and loving you. Will you trust me?” he was holding himself from showing you just how much he loved you, how he had loved you all this time, he waited for so many days, but these few seconds felt the longest.
“I trust you.” the moment you said this, Doyoung didn’t even waste a heartbeat before he kissed you, pulling you even closer than before, if that was possible. He kissed you with passion, lips against yours in a heated deep kiss, just perfectly showcasing his undying love for you.
You were the first one to break the kiss in order to breathe but he chased after your lips, laughing as you placed a hand on his chest “Leave something for tomorrow.” He placed a delicate kiss –unlike the previous one– on your forehead before pulling you in a hug.
“I have to make up for all the days I was supposed to be kissing you” he kissed the top of your head as you hid your face in his chest trying to hide the blush. “Are you free tomorrow?” he asked, running his hand through your hair. “Why? Are you gonna kiss me all day?”
“Hmm… doesn’t sound like a bad idea but I was thinking about going on a date.” perking your head up you smiled, “This is the perfect idea.” he leaned down to kiss you again as he whispered, “I love you.”

Viktor x Reader

-You’ve been coming to the lab on and off for months now. You’d been invited over many times by one of your best friends, Jayce - multiple times now, in fact. He’d gone so far as to give you directions, telling you on several occasions to ‘just come by whenever you have time’.
-You hadn’t wanted to intrude, at first, knowing that he had important work he was doing: knowing that if you came to say hello that you’d spend the entire afternoon talking.
-But you’d recently found yourself free from the confines of your crappy old job, and you’d figured you might as well take the time to drop in. You hadn’t wanted to go emptyhanded, though, and had packed up a couple boxes of lunch you knew you’d both enjoy.
-And then you’d set out for the location written on a little scrap of paper.
-Jayce, as expected, had welcomed you with open arms the moment you’d knocked and poked your head in. He’d been even more enthused when you revealed you’d brought food.
-He had, of course, given you the grand tour of everything; explaining where everything was, and what certain tools did. He’d even explained a couple of the little gadgets that were laying about, letting you hold them and turn them over in your hands.
- “And this,” he declared loudly, stopping at the last part of the lab, “Is Viktor!”
-You watch, utterly perplexed, as he lays a hand on the shoulder of a man hunched over a desk. Hard enough that said man -Viktor- winces slightly, and sighs. You certainly feel for him; you, too, have been on the receiving end of Jayce’s strength.
- “I would’ve thought you’d start with the fact that you have a partner,” you gently chastise, before turning your attention towards the stranger. “If I’d known you were here, I would have kept my voice down so you could work. Sorry.”
-Viktor relaxes a little bit, some of the tension easing from his body. “It is no issue,” he says quietly, swiveling in his chair so he can partially face you. “You’re not the first guest that Jayce has brought around unannounced - even if you were, he likes to talk while we work. I’m used to background noise.”
-You poorly hide a snort of laughter at the behest of your friend.
-He’s quite pretty, you think, subtly looking Viktor up and down. Sharp features and warm eyes, not to mention an intriguing accent and a possible sense of humour? You’ve only met him seconds ago, but you’re inclined to believe you’d like to befriend him.
- “Does he still have entire conversations with himself?” you ask, knowing full well you’re going to get complaints about your friendly bullying. “He used to get in trouble for it when we were in class, you know? Anyone who sat near him during exams would be privy to the answers, so everyone was always fighting over who got to be his desk buddy.”
-You lower your voice slightly, barely containing a mischievous grin. “Of course, he usually only got like half the answers right. Smartest person I know - terrible at tests.”
-Jayce groans at the memories, and Viktor looks up at you with amusement. “I feel like there’s more to this story,” he observes, and before you know it, you’ve pulled up a chair beside him to recount as many tales as you can about your school days and the kind of nonsense you’d gotten into.
-Very little gets accomplished that afternoon, thanks to your incessant chattering. But in your defense, Viktor never makes an attempt to dissuade you from talking, whether directly or indirectly. He remains engaged the entire time you’re talking, asking questions and making little quips.
-You still feel bad, though, for keeping them away from their work. Especially once you learn that they’re definitely going to have to stay late in order to catch up.
-As such, you decide to lend them a hand. You don’t know much about their experiments, but you can write well enough. You can run through the more menial and boring tasks, refining their notes and transferring them over into a more tidy format - leaving time for them to work on the things you’re not so versed in.
-It ends up becoming a regular thing. You’ll bother the two of them a couple times a week, talk their ears off throughout the day, and then help them through the annoying paperwork that neither of them like. You’re kind of like an unpaid intern, in your opinion, despite their best efforts to compensate you for your time.
-Over the months, your friendship with Viktor develops. You find yourself really looking forward to your days at the lab: of course, you enjoyed spending time with Jayce, but now?
-Now you’re excited about seeing Viktor.
-There’s something about him that just makes him an enjoyable person to be around. He’s engaged in your conversations, and he makes you feel listened to. Not to mention the fact that he’s immeasurably kind, good-natured, funny, smart, and has a mischievous streak that marvels your own.
-You find yourself confiding in him about more personal things: thoughts and feelings you wouldn’t even tell Jayce. Your fears about not being good enough after being sacked from your dead-end job, your unsureness about where you want to go with your life, the doubt you have of your skills and useful qualities.
-And he’s nothing but sweet throughout all your ranting, offering you comfort when your voice cracks, or a gentle hand on your shoulder when you get too riled up.
-He’s become such a welcome and constant presence in your life - you can’t fathom how you’d ever survived without him! Jayce is your dearest friend, but Viktor?
-You consider Viktor your soulmate.
-Which is why you’re so confused when he suddenly…starts brushing you off. Pulling away from your conversations, and canceling the plans you’d made weeks ago.
-You brush it off at first, thinking that he’s probably just busy, or having an off sort of day. Everything will be back to normal tomorrow, you tell yourself, as you pack up your things to head home for the night.
-But then the next day comes, and Viktor is still…cool.
-He barely even acknowledges you when you traipse into the lab, sending your cheerful greetings off. He keeps his head low while he works on his current project, not even bothering to look up and give you the smallest good morning.
-And then, when you try to ask him about what he’s doing? You know that he loves to talk about his theories and what he’s been making, and you’re so ready to ask him questions and get excited along with him!
-But he brushes you off. Again.
- “It’s not anything particularly interesting,” he says, not sparing you a glance. “I’m sure it would only bore you, if you could even understand it.”
-You don’t know how to describe the way his words hurt. The passiveness, the coldness, the implication that you’re not smart enough? Where had Viktor gone, and who was this stranger wearing his face? Saying something so mean to you, knowing that it’s been such a sore spot in the past?
- “Are…you okay?” you ask hesitantly, fiddling with the edges of your sleeves. “You’re acting kind of…I dunno. Weird. If something is bothering you-”
- “I’m perfectly fine,” he cuts you off, keeping his gaze trained on the little machine in his hands while he picks at the wires spilling out of it. “But if you don’t mind, I’m trying to finish this.”
-You nod wordlessly, turning on your heel to go back to your own workspace.
-You have no idea what you’ve done to upset him.
-At first you thought maybe he was annoyed by something - some event in his life that was bearing down on him and causing him excess stress. You’d thought that Jayce would have surely picked up on it too, on the days you weren’t with them. But…
- “He’s acting the same as usual,” your friend says, around a mouthful of food. The two of you are sat together in the lab, on one of the rare days that Viktor has taken time off (though you’re fairly certain he was forced to). “Why? Did something happen between you guys?”
-You deflate into your chair, hopeless and defeated. “I don’t know,” you admit, sadness creeping into your voice. “One day everything was fine - we were talking and laughing like we usually do, we hugged each other goodnight, went our separate ways, and…the next day it was like I was suddenly the biggest nuisance in his life.”
-You kind of hate how easily tears are brought to your eyes. You’ve only known Viktor for a couple of months - you’d had great conversations, and you’d come to care about him dearly, but…but maybe…
- “Maybe I came on too strong,” you sniffle, swiping your sleeve across your face while Jayce lays a hand on your shoulder. “I know I can be…a lot, sometimes. I’m chatty, and I’m emotional, and I…I get attached so quickly, I just-”
-You sigh.
- “I dunno.”
-Your friend draws you closer then, wrapping you tightly in a hug. It wasn’t often that you found yourselves having a serious enough moment to display your care for one another in such a manner, but at the moment, it’s needed. You sink into his grasp with a hiccup, allowing yourself to be squished.
- “Do you…like him?” Jayce asks then, breaking the comfortable silence between the two of you.
- “And I don’t mean as just a friend,” he clarifies. “You like him like him, don’t you? I see the way you look at him, and how you act around him - the way he acts around you.”
-You freeze.
- “What are you talking about?” you ask, squirming until he releases you. “Viktor doesn’t have feelings for me! He’s mad at me, remember?”
-Jayce finds his seat again, shrugging as he picks up what’s left of his lunch. “I dunno,” he replies, “I’ve never seen him act so soft with anyone else. Like, ever. His eyes get all big when you’re around, and he’s always talking about you when you’re away. He stares after you like a lost puppy, whenever you’re going on about something.”
-Your mind is swimming, with thoughts and anxieties. Going back over every interaction you’ve had since you met him, trying to remember any kind of sign that he’d been flustered, of all things.
-And yes, maybe he had looked at you with the utmost gentleness.
-Maybe he had hung off your every word, and craved your touch. Maybe he did consider you a close friend, as close a friend as you considered him - maybe you were the one who was indifferent to his feelings-
-Oh god, had he been dropping hints the whole time?
-Had you really been so oblivious?
- “Jayce-” you begin, but the man in question holds a hand up to quiet you, grabbing your bag from in between your chairs to hand it to you.
- “Go and talk to him.”
-Forty minutes later, you find yourself standing outside an unfamiliar door, at an unfamiliar apartment complex. You’re cold, and soaked to the bone, and your hands are shaking where you tightly grip at the strap of your bag. Even tucked under the awning while you wait for the door to be answered, the wind is still able to send a chill through you.
-You wait a couple dozen seconds before raising your hand to knock again. He’d taken the day off, and with the weather being so miserable, he had to be at home, right?
-Thankfully, right before you bring your fist down, the door clicks as it’s unlocked, and creaks open.
-A beat of silence.
-And then, “Hi.”
-It’s the most awkward word you’ve ever spoken, made even worse when Viktor doesn’t reply right away. He looks you up and down a couple times, his expression going from bored, to surprised, to concerned, all in the span of about three seconds.
- “What are you…” he begins, but shakes his head quickly, brushing the thought away as he steps aside to let you in. “Never mind. Come on, you look like you’re about to freeze to death.”
-You gratefully step into the narrow hallway that is the front of his home, sighing blissfully as the warmth from within immediately begins to soak into your body.
-It’s awkward again, as you stand there, between him and the door - and him, with a hand hovering over you, as if he’s suddenly not sure if he should touch you. Despite the fact that he’d never had any qualms about casual affection before.
-You track his movements, watching as his fingers flex for an indecisive moment before he balls them into a fist, and shoves his hand down to his side. Your gaze flicking up to his face, where he’s most definitely caught you watching him.
-The light dust of pink that begins to appear over his cheeks.
- “Viktor,” you say, softly, almost breathless after your trek through the city. “What’s been going on between us, lately?”
-His throat bobs when he swallows, remaining silent.
- “We were so open with each other, so happy, and you…you’re my person,” you explain. “And I’ve been going over and over every interaction we’ve had, trying to figure out what I did to make you not want to be around me - and I can’t figure it out. I don’t know what kind of mistake I’ve made, but…but can we please talk about it?”
-You hate the way your eyes well up with tears. “I don’t want to lose you. If there’s something I can do - anything, to fix whatever it is I’ve done…”
-Something in his posture changes, then.
-The stiffness that’s been in his shoulders for the past couple days, held rigid and curt in an attempt to keep you at a distance; it fades. He visibly droops, almost curling in on himself as his expression falls.
-And his hand, previously clenched into a ball, relaxes.
-Raises.
-Finds a tender home against your face.
- “I’m sorry,” he sighs, stroking the pad of his thumb over the curve of your cheek. “You’ve done nothing wrong - that, I promise. I’ve been- I realized- I-”
-He cuts himself off with a frustrated sigh, casting his gaze downwards.
-Oh, you think, watching as his face continually darkens to a rosy hue. So Jayce was right.
- “Jayce was right,” you murmur, catching Viktor’s face in your hands the moment his attention snaps back to you.
-You stay like that for what feels like forever, staring, quietly, holding each other steady while all the little pieces click into place. While his eyes go from sad and guilty, to curious, to hopeful, to content.
-A smile, spreading slowly across your features.
-The two of you, giggling airily at the absurdity of the situation, all former feelings of hurt now beginning to fade. Leaning closer.
-The softness of his lips against your own, miraculously warm on your rain-chilled flesh. Pressing so gently you can barely feel him, his hand slipping to the back of your head to cradle you most precious. It’s innocent, almost sickeningly sweet, and yet you can’t find a single reason to not be entirely elated, your heart nearly beating out of your chest.
-And then he pulls back, both of you grinning at each other like idiots.
- “You’re freezing,” he quips, pulling you closer so he can wrap his arms around you.
-You laugh.

Heyyy first of all I love you works so much, you are such a good writer😭 I saw your requests are closed so feel free to ignore this but I just saw the latest post were anon asked you if you preferred karaoke with strawhats boys or spa with the girls and I found that a beautiful idea. So if you can/want could you please do a karaoke with strawhats (boys and girls) hc please?? Thank youuu💜💜💜
This is a request for my Sleepover Event, send me one too! :)
Okay for starters if you have not heard the groups “Family” song, I’m going to need to you go to Youtube and check it out (they recently re-recorded the japanese version with Jimbei and 🥺🥺)
Most of these are just how everyone would act at a karaoke bar. But I added everyone singing with you, take that as you wish :)
Karaoke Night
Luffy
He’s starting off the night with a song. The first to volunteer without even a drop of alcohol in his body. Literally pulls you up on stage to sing with him.
He’s SOOOOO bad. He’s always offkey but that makes you feel a little better because at least people’s ears already hurt so your voice doesn’t matter too much.
He likes to sing the classic sea shanties and older stuff that everyone can sing along to (if it was our world he would be singing Journey and the old classic country music). He’s big on yelling “You guys know this part, sing along!” and holding out the mic for the crowd to join in.
When he’s not on stage singing, he’s either dancing or running around to all the groups of people mingling, asking if they’re going to sing
He always volunteers to be a partner if people are too nervous to sing along. He’s there to have fun and wants to make sure everyone else is having fun too :)
Zoro
Nope. This man is not singing.
That's what he says. That’s what he promises. No way in hell he’s getting up on that stage.
Until he gets about 10 tankards of ale in him. Then he’s climbing up on the stage ready to sing his HEART out.
He sings loud and proud, and halfway through the song beckons you up to join him. If you don’t go, he’s going to jump down and slowly walk to you and serenade you.
He’s probably going to sing some oldies song that’s deep and slow. Like Frank Sinatra or maybe even Johnny Cash. (I can imagine him absolutely nailing “And I did it….MYYYYYYY WAYYYYYYYYYY”)
At the start of the night he’s sitting in the corner alone, watching everyone carefully to make sure nobody tries to make a move on you or any other crew member, but by the end of the night he’s up, sitting with strangers and laughing and having the best time ever.
Sanji
His eyes are always on whoever is singing…unless it’s a man.
Sanji himself doesn’t sing, and he’s definitely not singing alone, but any time a lady goes up, Sanji’s asking if she needs a duet partner. He can’t let a lady sing alone, afterall.
He’s more of the kind to just sit and enjoy the show, show support when he needs to, heckle when it’s one of the Strawhats up there. If he hears any mumbling or rude comments while a lady is up singing, he’s going to war.
He can tell you kind of want to go sing, but you’re too nervous to go up or initiate asking, so eventually he pops the question and asks you to sing with him.
You guys are definitely singing some kind of duet song. Definitely Troy/Gabriella vibes from that first scene in High School Musical. You both start out kind of nervous but by the end you’re only focused on eachother and you’re both into it. And you sound pretty good too!
Nami
She’s definitely not the kind of person to start the singing, but she’ll do it with enough encouragement.
She’s not singing alone though. Unmless someone pays her to sing alone, she won’t. She doesn’t even like duets (she knows she’s not the strongest vocally and hates when people make fun of her).
She prefers group songs. Usually three or more gets her comfortable singing. Her, Usopp, and you know all the good music, so the three of you can sing some songs without even looking at the words.
Early 2000’s music, especially R&B, are your alls go to. Rich Girl, Umbrella, SOS, all the bops that people that grew up during that time know and love.
She is definitely a heckler when someone is singing badly too. She may not boo them off the stage but she WILL be laughing at them.
Usopp
He’s not singing. He has allergic-to-crowd-itis. No way is he going up on stage.
Unfortunately, he's bad at betting, and Nami makes him go up. You offer to join him so it’s not as scary for him.
He’s picking some random song that nobody has every heard of. If they don’t know what the original sounds like, they don’t know how good or bad it is. Mt. Joy, Portugal, The Man, Go Radio. Music that if you know, you LOVE. Upbeat folky music that’s easy to have a scratchy voice and be offkey.
After the first time, he realizes he actually had a lot of fun, and starts doing it with bigger groups. He even gets Nami and Luffy to join you all and you guys all sing a fun upbeat song.
When he’s not on stage, he’s laughing along with the boys and cheering on for whoever is on stage at the moment. Over-exaggerated screams of support and lots of clapping.
Chopper
Terrified of the thought of being on stage. But he’s a supportive little guy, and he’ll do it if you do it.
He walks up and hides behind you. Looking out at everyone in the crowd is so scary for him! Especially knowing how vicious Nami’s comments have been.
Once the music gets started, his voice is a little shakey, but by the time the chorus rolls around, he’s into it! The whole crew is yelling cheers of encouragement to him and he really starts to get into it.
I could see him really getting into some fun pop music. Katy Perry, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift. He doesn’t get why the songs are so aggressive but he loves scream singing with you
After the first song clears his nerves, it’s hard to keep him off the stage. He’s jumping into every group song there is. He loves the RUSH.
Robin
You’re convicned this woman is not singing. Like she’s just not. I’m sorry. You can beg and plead all you want but shes not-
“Do you want to sing? Sure! I’ll try everything once!” And with that she puts her book down and walks up onto the stage.
You guys are going hard or going home. The slower songs of people like Adele, Miley Cyrus, Billie Ellish, Lizzy McAlpine. Voices that you KNOW you will fail at replicating or sounding better than, but that’s just her vocal range, and she’s actually pretty good!
She enjoys it, but once is enough for her. She might do it again if you or someone else asks, but it’s always going to be those hard to match songs.
She is honestly so fulfilled watching everyone else take the stage and be absolute goofballs. She prefers to watch and laugh along with everyone from the back of the room, a part of the family but then not center of attention.
Franky
Frankie loves pop music and you can’t convince me otherwise. The second he hears a song he likes, he jumps up to be next in line. He’ll sing anything, but his first pick is pump up 2012’s music like One Republic, Tao Cruz, Imagine Dragons.
He’s such a star when he sings too. Dancing around on stage, pulling you up to join him and serenading you. He can really put on a show for the audience.
He definitely made adjustments to body to have little smoke [things] and little sparklers. It definitely starts a small fire.
He’s having a GREAT time and loves loves loves it. He knows it’s important to let everyone have their turn, but he’s almost always in the lineup for karaoke, whether it’s the two of you singing or with a group of people. He’ll sing with just about anybody (and he gets requests for it too)
When he’s not on stage, he’s talking to the other patrons (trying to get in with other groups to sing more)
Brook
Brook…what can I say? He was born for this. And died for this. And came back to life for this. Brook has ALWAYS loved karaoke. It’s what got him into performing.
He asks if you want to sing one of his songs with him (what an honor!), and he does his best not to steal the show. But he’s missed performing and he’s missed the crowd, so he goes overboard a little bit the first time.
The crowd goes freaking insane. He gets so many comments about his voice, and he always does his best to say he only sounded better because you were with him.
He likes to sing his own songs, but after a few rounds, he just lets you (or whoever he’s singing with) pick the music. He’s got a very specific range though and doesn’t like to go outside of it.
He’s surrounded by fans most of the time, and anytime he spends offstage is met by autographs and fans fauning over him, buying him drinks and trying to get him to notice them.
Jinbe
Jinbe does group singing only. He won’t sing alone, and he doesn’t really want to do duets either. Even group songs he doesn’t love. He’s not big on singing or being the center of attention.
He will join people on the stage for a group performance though, but he will only join in for the chorus or moments where everyone is singing.
He can tell you’re nervous about singing, so he stays close and gives you little words of encouragement as you’re singing with everyone.
He’s so supportive from the crowd though when you go up without him! He always tells you how great you did and tells you his favorite part of every songs so you know that he was actually paying attention.
He really just sits and enjoys the vibes. He’ll sing along from the crowd if he knows a song, but he’s just there for the atmosphere and to support his crew.

Leona Kingscholar x Reader: Love Letters (2)
I think I might just start posting stuff on Ao3 before Tumblr? Just because Ao3 is easier to access and post stuff on the go. Also, I’m just more familiar with Ao3 :)
Anyways, here’s the 2nd part!
Hope you enjoy!
No spoilers or warnings for now but this might change in future installments :)
PART 1 | PART 2 [!] | PART 3 | PART 4 | PART 5 | PART 6 | END
SUMMARY: You think about the identity of your possible...admirer. Or is this all a cruel prank? You best keep your guard up at NRC after all!
"Food dazo!" Grim cheerfully leapt forward. He hops onto your desk, tail swaying as he picks up a pouch.
"Uh…" You could only mumble. You weren't quite sure what to do with this information. Was somebody threatening you by sending you these ominous letters or…? Nope, it was a good idea to just shut down that idea completely. Falling for any of the pretty boys here was going to be a bad idea. One that you'd regret so badly.
You really couldn't help yourself though.
"Open it, open it!" Ace urges him excitedly. Grim pulls open the pouch. "Hearts…?" Deuce looks from above, confused. "Haha, somebody's got a secret crush on you!" The red head begins laughing even harder.
"Candy! Don't mind if I do dazo!" Grim pops one in his mouth. "What if it was poisoned, Grim? You can't just put random stuff in your mouth!" You scold him, taking the pouch from him. "Fygaa! You think it's poisoned?! Ack-" Grim's eyes widened in disgust as he tries to cough it out. You try to help to no avail and he simply swallows it.
"Tastes pretty good dazo!"
"Candy hearts for the prefect? I think someone has a little crush on them!" Ace teasingly comments. "Shut up, do we really need everyone to know?" You huff, a blush slightly creeps up your face. It's embarrassing! What did the gifter think they were doing?
You look around the class to stare down any eavesdroppers. As soon as they realized you were looking at them, they quickly looked away. Huh. Usually, they'd snicker in response. They didn't have the decency to even pretend they weren't listening because they knew. What could you even do against them?
Either they finally realized your might or it was the person behind the letter and candy. You don't know if the thought relieved you or just made you more wary of the gifter.
"Hey, you. Did you see who put this here?" You decide to ask a classmate. He's a Savanaclaw member and it's obvious even without the arm band.
He looks like a deer caught in the light for a while before his expression snaps into a glare. "No, I don't have to say anything!" He growls at you. You blink and just turn around.
Your other classmates look jittery and nervous as they try to look anywhere but you.
"Is it just me or is the class acting strange?" Deuce whispers. "I bet they know something about this but we're threatened to keep hush. Ooh, what if your admirer is someone powerful?" Ace theorizes with a grin. "As long as they give me food, they can have [Name] dazo." Grim nodded.
"Grim! I can't believe you'd sell me out like that! If someone gave me stable living conditions and some love, I'd leave you too!" You gasp, pretending to be offended.
You are sweating bullets. You hope Ace isn't right. He's usually not right anyway, right? You reassure yourself.
"Puppies, settle down! Class is starting." With professor Crewel's entrance, everyone quickly takes a seat and the room falls silent. During his lesson, you play with the strings of the pouch in your pocket.
You try to imagine who this admirer could be. Was it somebody you knew? If it wasn't, was this some cruel prank? And if it isn't a prank…there's a certain charm to a random stranger falling in love with you.
Would he be as bold as Ace? As compassionate as Deuce? As cheerful as Cater? Maybe perhaps as strict as Riddle or even as caring as Trey?
You just hoped this admirer didn't have the worst traits of them all. Knowing your luck, they really might. You racked your head, trying to think of more possibilities as to who this could be. You didn't really think it was in line with what you knew them to be to do this.
By the time you start focusing on the lesson again, it's already over. You blink and shake your head. Oh no, you hope you didn't miss anything important. You'd just ask Ace or Deuce later.
You head to your next period after that. It isn't until lunch that you finally get the chance to read that card. It's simplistic but you get the feeling it's quite expensive. You're so confused.
You pass Grim the pouch of candy hearts after you check if it's poisoned or cursed. He munches on them while you all walk to the cafeteria. The halls are weirdly devoid of students, only a few students still loitering around. It made sense since it was lunch time but there tended to be more people outside.
"Ugh, I'm going to get mugged or something while walking home today." You groan. "Don't worry, the Great Grim will protect his henchman dazo!" Grim proclaims proudly with a grin. You smile. "Do you need me to walk you home, [Name]?" Deuce asks, cracking his knuckles with a dark look. "You triggered his bad boy switch." Ace accuses you with a frown.
"Knock it off, you jerk-"
"It's okay, I'll be studying in the library after school anyway. You guys can watch Grim for me, right?"
"Oh, su-" Ace claps a hand over his mouth, leaning forward. Upon seeing his eager face, you sigh and roll your eyes.
"What do you want?"
"So, I heard today there's this super popular bakery in town that comes to promote themselves once every month." Somehow you already have a bad feeling of where this was going.
"Ah, I remember Cater mentioning that! They sell our real quick, right? I saw the picture of the egg salad sandwich he posted." Deuce adds excitedly, pulling Ace's hand away from him.
"So?"
"Get us the deluxe menchi katsu sandwich!"
Ao3: HERE
If you see it posted anywhere or by anyone else, it's not me.

It’s You~ Joseph Quinn
Tumblr media
Author’s Note : Hi! I just wanted to start something new and just write what comes to mind. This has been on my mind for quite a while and I really want to share it out there. I haven’t wrote something like this in ages. I am going to use Halsey as the girl I picture in my head as “ you” or Y/N. She is such a beauty and I just love her.
Summary:  You have feelings for Joseph since you were casted a long side him for Stranger Things as Eddie’s love interest. You were hiding the fact that you had another career, you were a singer but no one knows this. You have not shown your face since you started to sing, not even in music videos or with whom you record with for your albums. You struggle along the lines with feeling acceptance in the world. A new feeling is given to you when you and Joseph became close. Certain friends notice and try to help. Will it though or will it fall through and create chaos?
It’s been difficult juggling a singing career and an acting career together. The fact that you had to hide who you were from the world as your heart sank out around the world made it more difficult than you realized. When casted as part of Stranger Thing you let Matt and Ross Duffer know that you had another life, a career that took half the time as you were putting as being part of Stranger Things.
They understood as long as you were here. On time. Ready for anything.
You became close with Jaime Campbell Bower, he made you laugh and enjoy the world a little more. He became your best friend along with Joseph Quinn, who played your loved interest, Eddie Munson in Stranger Things.
Millie adored you so much looking up at you like an older sister.
But no one knows your secret, the other career. The singing. The late night recording sessions. The albums. Your voice. The beauty of it.
“ Hey darling” Jaime greeted you as he just came back from the trailer, smiling ear to ear. He hasn’t seen you all day and you were just making your way to the set having a long night recording a new song.
“ Hey Jaime” you hugged him as he kissed you on top of your head smiling down at you. His smiled dropped seeing the tired look on your face.
“ Long night?” He asks tilting his head to the side, worry crossing his face. You yawned scrunching up your nose and nodding as you yawned.
“ Is there something on your mind that’s bothering you?” Shaking your head no waving to Mille who has been yelling your name. Jaime chuckled at her.
“ Eager little one, isn’t she?” He asks.
“ I’m her favorite” you answer. He chuckles again. “ You seem to become everyone’s favorite” Shrugging you bid Jaime with “ see you later alligator” and made your way over to her.
Mille pulls you into a big hug rocking you both back and forth with a huge smile on her face.
“ Y/N it’s so nice to see you today, you look beautiful as always”
“ Why thank you, you do too” she pulls away gazing up at you, frowns a little with a pout seeing your taller than usual. “ hey! did you grow?”
Your shoulder shook with laughter as you pointed down to your shoes which were heels and she chuckled, shrugging mumbling that she didn’t see them. Someone calls her name as she says she will see you later before you even had a chance to walk to your trailer, a voice stops you.
It’s Joseph in his Eddie Munson outfit ready to shoot a scene.
“ Hi Joe” you greet him with a small smile. He is biting on his bottom lip standing on one foot and bouncing on the other seeming nervous but you brushed it off thinking it had something to do with the scene.
“ Good afternoon sleeping beauty”
A hint of red appears on your cheeks as you remember after the recording session, Joseph has called you on FaceTime while you were on your way home and could not sleep himself. He wanted to hear your voice.
“ heh..sorry I fell asleep on the phone. I had a long day..” your white heels became more interesting right now than his pretty face finding the words you wanted to say but they weren’t coming out how you thought they would.
You had developed feelings for him and didn’t know how to tell him or if he felt the same. You didn’t dare to tell him because it would cost your friendship with him.
Jaime had found out about these feelings you have for Joseph, always teasing you and Joseph about one another. He was trying to work his magic but you weren’t having it. Jaime wasn’t about to play match maker if the other end didn’t feel the same. Meaning Joe.
“ Everything okay?” The sudden question makes you look up at him into his beautiful brown eyes that make you melt.
You nod feeling your mouth go dry at the sight of him.
He shrugs if off.
“ You need to get ready, we’re going to shoot soon” you nod, not moving from your spot but looking at him and admiring his features. He was such a beautiful man from head to toe. It was unbelievable that he was real. Standing in front of you.
“ Sweetheart, are you listening?”
Breaking your gaze from his face, missing the red color appearing on his cheeks watching you look at him.
“ Yeah, I’m sorry. I am so tired and out of it today. I need coffee or something”
Something. That something appeared in Joseph’s head as images played in his head.
He hid it well that he had butterflies every single time you were around him. Whenever you touch his shoulder or arm to laugh or say something to him, a jolt goes through his body as he feels his heart speed up.
He has feelings for you and he is scared. He doesn’t want to lose you or ruin the friendship. You became one of his best friends and he adores you beyond words.
As you rush to the trailer to get ready, he mumbles to himself running a hand down his face.
“ fuck..” he mumbles. Jaime is on the other side watching his best friend, watching the girl he has feelings for. He hums to himself and thinks of a plan.
Tumblr media
After leaving the Stranger Things set and bidding a goodnight to everyone, you hurried into the studio to finish the song you were working on. Desperately trying to finish the album. The last song made you frustrated as you scribbled new lyrics over new lyrics. You were tired and the only thing on your mind was Joseph and his pretty smile. Damn him.
Suddenly your phone rings, a face time call. You scramble to find it through piles of notebook paper and turning it around to see his name flash. Your heart speed up. Should you answer it? You were trying to work and he had no idea how stressed or what you were doing.
The secret has to stay a secret.
The phone stopped ringing the light no longer flashing and you see your own reflection on the black screen. Well sorta, not fully but you can see the unknown look on your face.
Why was this so hard? Why did you have to have feelings for your best friend? Why now? Why ever?
You ran a hand through your hair to the back of your neck hanging your head closing your eyes as you sighed.
Another ring. You lifted up your head to see he was calling again.
What did he need? Was it an emergency? You took the phone in your hand rushing to the black couch that had been on the corner of the room that a few times you slept on when staying late at the studio.
You answered his call. The small screen went to the corner of the phone and his face appeared, his smiling face. His adorable, cute face
“ Finally!” he beamed with happiness. You playful rolled your eyes leaning back on the couch looking down at the phone waiting for him to tell you what he wanted. You didn’t want to be rude or anything but you had a long night and it wasn’t even close to closing the night.
You still had work to do.
“ You left in such a hurry that I didn’t get to hug you”he frowns, a small pout appears. Chuckling you ran a hand through your hair again ruffling it a bit before answering him.
“ I had other plans that needed attention, I’m sorry Jospeh” He tilts his head as he looks you over. You look exhausted and he notice your make up under your eyes has been smudged. You either were rubbing your eyes or crying or something.
He tried to figure out where you were but was lost as he was looking at a grey wall and the black couch, well the back of it and you.
You dressed in a navy hoodie, hair ruffled, barley any make up on chewing on the hoodie string as a habit.
“ What plans?” his curiosity got the best of him.
“ Stuff, important stuff” was all you answered before adding, “ Look, I love to chat and all but I have some things I need to get done before I catch on some sleep”
Jospeh nodded but it’s a sad nod.
“ Okay” was all he answered. You upset him. Closing your eyes, twitching your nose not knowing what to say to him.
“ I’m sorry but I have to go”
“ whatever” he replies hanging up the call. You sighed once more getting up off the couch going back on working on the song that needs to be finished.
One day he will understand. One day.
Days go by, you haven’t talked to Joseph or anything but have been working on the song and going in to shoot your scenes that you needed.
An award ceremony was coming up soon and you were nominated and due to perform.
This time you were going to show the world it was you. Your face was going make an appearance after years of feeling like an outcast and feeling of not belonging. You were going to shine.
A fear in the back of your head lingers because your costars were going to find out what is it you do on days you were “ working.”
You kept the secret hidden for years but you decided now was the time to shine.
Why? Because you weren’t going to hide anymore. You wanted your voice to mean something. You were scared of Josephs’ reaction because this meant so much to you and he did too.
The days come quicker before you know it. Millie asked if you were coming with them to the award show, you told her you still needed to get ready and it was the truth but you needed time. Time to focus on you.
Joseph hasn’t spoken to you in days feeling like weeks but this was your time.
The award show has been going on and you sat in the back biting your nail, adjusting your outfit and the top of your high knee heels that shined in colorful colors.
“ The time is coming, she is your favorite artist of the year. She stepped on stage for many years now. Her voice is like no other but tonight, things change as we put a face on her beautiful voice. Here she is...ladies and gentlemen put it up for Y/S/N ( your stage name)!!”
Everyone cheered looking up to see who would show up. As you started to sing showing your back to the crowd pulling down the hood revealing your hair and then when the chorus kicked in, you turned around removing your face mask to everyone signing your heart out walking down with your head raised feeling proud.
Shocked faces in the crowd and you catch the glimpse of his face. His mouth drops as he looks at you. He couldn’t believe it. It was you.
You walked past him feeling your heart ready to rip out of your chest and feel as if you were going to throw up.
You felt so seen and heard.
You heard Millie screaming on top of her lungs making you chuckle between the song and seeing Jaime shouting and recording at the same time. He was proud if you and looked over to Joseph next to him.
Joseph’s mouth was still opened but his eyes were glossy. He was so happy for you, he was. He missed you. It was his fault, he didn’t understand why you would hide yourself like this.
You were a beautiful flower.
As the song came to the end, hearing the crowd cheer making you smile and blow kisses to them. You bring the mic to your lips.
“ Surprised?”
Everyone shouted. You laughed.
“ I was too, but thank you so much. This has been such a moment, I love you all and my album drops tomorrow afternoon. It’s finished and I can’t wait for you all to hear. Have a goodnight!” you walked off the stage hurried to leave.
You didn’t want to see anyone. You were overwhelmed and didn’t want to get bombard with questions and just people.
You rushed home turning your phone off.

Tumblr media
The next day you headed to biology with a game plan. You were sure you made a fool of yourself with your behavior yesterday and decided you needed to be way nicer to Kai if you ever wanted to be his friend.
With words of encouragement from your family (and a few teasing comments) you walked into class early and sat in your usual seat. It wasn’t long before Kai was walking in surrounded by the flock of teenagers that were desperately attempting to adopt him into their friend group.
Sensing eyes on him Kai looked up at you and you willed yourself not to immediately look away cursing the childish nerves coursing through your body. You really had to pull yourself together, you couldn’t be giggling and kicking your feet every time he so much as looked at you.
Kai finally sat at the lab bench with you and you wasted no time in setting your plan into action.
“Hello. I’m sorry we didn’t get the chance to talk properly yesterday I wasn’t feeling the best,” you began hoping this was a believable enough excuse for your behavior but knowing Kai likely saw right through it. You continued to introduce yourself feeling more nervous and out of your element than you have in years.
Considering you couldn’t read his thoughts, the lack of instant feedback on how you were handling this left you itching to know just what he really thought of you.
Kai finally looked up after you finished your introduction and after a brief, considering pause replied, “Hi, I’m Kai but I bet you already knew that.” He finished with an awkward laugh and a shy smile that left you kind of speechless.
You noticed him beginning to turn towards the front of the classroom likely expecting this exchange to be over with. Before you could really consider it you began speaking again.
“So, what brings you to Forks all the way from Hawaii? How are you liking it?” you questioned, internally cringing at your awkwardness and the fact that he was probably so tired of being asked the same thing.
He paused in his movements, clearly surprised to hear you addressing him again and looked back at you. “Just family stuff. Forks has been…” he hesitated and shot you a look you truly wished you could decipher, “Its been alright. Everyone has been pretty welcoming, well almost everyone.”
You winced a little at the clear dig towards your actions yesterday. “Sorry about that, you really caught me on a bad day,” you lamely excused knowing you would never be able to truly explain and apologize for your behavior.
He gave you a small shrug with a half smile in response and was about to turn back to the front again before he paused clearly debating asking you something. You gave what you hoped was an encouraging smile and he met your gaze before boldly asking, “Do you wear contacts or something? I swear your eyes were darker yesterday but today they look almost hazel.”
Caught off guard you physically flinched away from him during this line of questioning and scrambled to find a good excuse. Luckily for you, your teacher began to walk in and you briefly replied, “Um, no, maybe it’s the lighting in this room or something.” Finishing this statement with an incredibly awkward laugh and facing to the front, you used the teacher beginning the lesson as a signal of the end of this conversation.
Kai gave you yet another long considering look but dropped the subject simply humming in response and turning to listen to the lecture. You could hear Taehyun mentally cackling at you from across the school. This was not how you wanted this conversation to pan out.
It was just your luck that today's lesson would include working in pairs. You noticed Kai stiffen a bit at this news and felt even worse than you already did. Mustering up some courage (as if you weren’t a literal vampire), you turned to Kai asking if he wanted to get started on the assignment.
After another brief pause on his end (where you swear you saw your entire life flash before your eyes) he nodded in agreement and jokingly added, “Just promise me we’ll win the golden onion.”
Stunned by his sudden playfulness and the small grin he sported you just stared dumbly for a few seconds only responding after noticing his smile start to waver. “I promise, that onion will be yours in no time.”
You could not believe the stupid golden onion, yes an actual onion painted gold, that your teacher offered as a prize today was getting you a positive interaction with Kai. What has your life become?
After that exchange you both settled in and began the assignment. You were impressed by how easily the subject came to Kai with many of your classmates struggling to identify the stages of the cells. It was no surprise when you guys finished first and answered every question correctly.
If yesterday was the longest class has ever felt then today was definitely the shortest. You and Kai mainly focused on the assignment but you were able to briefly squeeze in a few questions throughout the lesson. You learned that he loves penguins, something he excitedly turned to tell you about after you pointed out the penguin pin on his backpack. He also speaks multiple languages which definitely piqued your interest considering how as a vampire you have picked up many languages as well.
Every time you guys talked about something that wasn’t class related he was very bubbly and excited to share but you could tell he was definitely holding back. You supposed he had a right to be wary of you especially after you’ve shown him a total 180 in terms of behavior, but it still bothered you. It made you that much more determined to be on his good side.
You were both crowned the “winners'' of today's lesson and the teacher awarded you with the golden onion and a homework pass. Kai excitedly turned to you shaking the golden onion triumphantly with a huge smile on his face. You couldn’t help the wide smile you gave in response as you both began to pack up for your next class.
“I told you we’d win it, I never break my promises,” you told Kai as you both began to walk out of the room. To your surprise he stayed by your side as you walked towards your locker.
“That’s really good to know. I have to say i’m looking forward to learning more about you,” he replied, back to his more reserved self and offering you a very small smile.
Excited but confused by his bold statement you questioned him on why that was. “You’re not like the other people in Forks. You’re different,” he began giving you that same indecipherable look as always.
He quickly rushed out “In a good way, of course! I just mean I would like to get to know why you are different. Sorry if that didn’t make any sense,” he finished with a mumble, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck and gazing at you from under his bangs.
For a moment you wondered just how perceptive Kai really is and considering how smart you knew him to be you couldn’t help worrying he’d figure out exactly what made you so different. Fear ran ice cold through your veins and you struggled to give him back a smile and a brief reassurance that you understood what he meant.
You weren’t sure you’d ever understand him.
After that you both parted ways to attend the rest of your classes. You briefly saw him at lunch and realized that his eyes were flickering towards where you sat even more than they had yesterday. Something that did not go unnoticed by your siblings either, much to your dismay.
“So when’s the wedding then?” began Yeonjun, giving a pointed look towards where Kai was failing once again to discreetly glance at you. You gave Yeonjun a deadpan stare and didn’t even grace his question with a response.
“Something is up though, you don’t feel as determined or excited as yesterday. What happened?” questioned Soobin confirming that he had felt the shift in your emotions but had been waiting for the best time to bring it up. Before answering you risked a glance at Taehyun in an attempt to gauge whether today's events impacted the “positive” future he kept assuring you of.
Despite his poker face you could easily read his thoughts and confirm for now that it was all still good and this reassured you more than anything he could’ve said. You briefly explained to Soobin and the rest what Kai had said earlier and how it scared you a little bit considering you actually did have a very huge, important secret you were all hiding.
“I doubt he would figure it out. I mean he’s smart and all but what sane person would randomly come to the conclusion of someone being a vampire?” Beomgyu immediately responded in an attempt at comforting you. The rest nodded along and offered similar sentiments about the issue. You sat silently, processing their words and hoping for your sake they were right.
Even with their support, you couldn’t help but feel unnerved by the curious and questioning look you saw in Kai’s eyes every time he looked over at you.
The rest of the day passed in a blur of uneventfulness. Your siblings spent much of the rest of the day trying to cheer you up while also giving you enough space to think, something you were grateful for.
At the end of the day you all walked to the parking lot bickering over what movie to watch today. You couldn’t help but glance over at Kai one last time as he neared his car across the parking lot. He was a bit distracted with headphones in quickly checking his phone before he decided to leave for the day. Even while distracted it seems he senses your present and his eyes briefly left his phone and locked with yours.
Suddenly you heard a loud, screeching sound and your eyes quickly darted over to see another student losing control of their car on the icy road. Your eyes widened as you realized the path the car was going to take would head straight for Kai who had yet to hear the commotion.
Without thinking you used your vampire speed to make it over to Kai in time, shielding his body just as the car came careening towards him. You desperately flung your arm out hoping  to lessen the impact of the car on the both of you. You heard a loud unsatisfying crunch as the bumper made contact with your hands.
Thankfully you had made it just in time and both you and Kai were relatively unharmed, with Kai having merely bumped his head against his own car. “Are you okay?” you frantically questioned, glancing over him to ensure there was no serious damage. He gave you a dazed look in response that had you worrying if that head bump was actually more serious than it looked.
“How did you get to me so fast?” is not the answer you were expecting to get. You froze, staring down at him in shock and, while feeling guilty about it, told him he was confused from hitting his head. He sputtered in disbelief attempting to counter your claim but you quickly cut him off, “I was right by your car and you’re lucky I was too. You should definitely get your head checked to make sure everything’s okay you aren’t making sense right now. I’m worried.”
He sent you a glare about to open his mouth and argue once again but luckily the rest of the students finally made it to where you guys were trapped between the cars. You quickly fixed the dent in the car's bumper to avoid any suspicion from other students. You already had your hands full (literally) with Kai’s questioning gaze.
You helped Kai stand up again and reassured everyone you guys were fine. You also took this chance to restate that you think Kai needs to be checked on since he hit his head, something he immediately began to protest against.
You quickly ushered him towards the approaching ambulance, careful to avoid his accusatory glare. Mentally you heard your family wondering if you were okay but also berating you a bit for being so careless. You definitely had a lot of damage control to do after this.

Her Husband
Fandom: Stranger Things Summary: Robin's a nervous person, everyone knows that. First dates are also a nerve-wracking ordeal for everyone, but more so for her. Warnings: Mentions of period typical homophobia Word Count: 782 Ship(s): Steve Harrington&/Robin Buckley
Archive link!
A/N: So this is the first half of a two-part (or maybe more if I decide there's a need for it) series and it may not make a ton of sense alone. I hope that you all enjoy this part and are prepared for the next one! Stay sissy and bitchy everyone <3
Robin shifted uncomfortably on her chair. This was probably her least favorite part of having a first date with a new romantic interest. She had done it over a dozen times at this point,a ll the way through college and even into her adult career. She thought that it would get easier after a little while but it almost seemed like the world was specifically against her to make her just as anxious about it every single time she did it.
“I have something that I have to confess if we’re going to keep going down this path,” she cleared her throat awkwardly.
“Oh yeah?” her date asked.
Ashley was pretty and kind. She had long red hair that she kept in a braided bun on the back of her head because she worked with animals. Her hands were calloused on her right middle finger and along the base of her thumb. She had fair skin that refused to freckle no matter how long she stayed in the sun. Tonight she had worn a pretty blue dress that kept slipping off of her shoulder to reveal the lacy black bra that she was wearing. The fact that she was kind, worked with animals, and had obviously come to their date with the expectation of the night ending in sex was what was making it so much worse for Robin.
She wiped her hands on her pants and reminded herself that she had faced way worse than this. She would much rather have to tell pretty women who wanted to have sex with her the little secret that she kept tucked into another part of her life than fight Vecna or be tortured by Russians. But it didn’t always feel like it.
“I have a husband,” she explained.
Ashley immediately wrinkled her nose and leaned back in her chair like Robin had just told her that she had the Black Death. “You mean that you led me on to help you cheat on someone?”
“No,” she shook her head. “He knows that I’m here and he supports it wholeheartedly-”
Robin had a whole spiel in her head that she always tried to use when she was telling dates this, but she almost never got it out all the way when they began to freak out. It turned out that it was going to be the same this time as it was every other time. Ashley leaned forward and spoke in a hushed voice so that none of the other patrons in the surrounding tables would be able to hear her as she said, “You know that lesbianism isn’t some gross kink for men, right? Some of us, such as myself, think that we can only be with women. I’m not going to sleep with you so that your husband can watch through your blinds or in your closet or something. That’s fucking disgusting.”
“You don’t understand,” Robin whimpered. She usually dropped it when the person she was talking to obviously wanted the conversation to end, but she had been really invested in the potential relationship she could have with Ashley. “It-it’s not like that. We’re not together romantically or sexually. We’re married and we love each other but he-he’s more like my platonic soulmate. It was like when the gods were making us or whatever he decided that I was going to love my best friend with my entire chest but only be interested in women and-”
Ashley cut her off again, “So he’s a beard? I’ve dated women like that before but it didn’t really work out.”
“No, he’s not a beard! He’s my husband,” Robin objected, frustrated. The idea of her husband only being her beard or something that was totally disposable once she found the right woman made her want to vomit. He was far more important to her than any romantic foray, so she decided that she was just going to take the hit and try again some other time. “I don’t think that this is going to work out. Thanks for trying, sorry for wasting your time.”
She fished out the proper amount of money and then set it on the table before she slung her purse over her shoulder and walked away. It was frustrating to have that happen over and over again, but she would always place her husband above any romantic or sexual encounters that she would have. It was hard to explain to people, especially with the limited vocabulary that still existed for queer people even in the mid-nineties, but it was very important to her that whatever future romantic partner she may have recognize that first and foremost, Steve was her husband.

Cat and Mouse || Felix and Lil
TIMING: Awhile ago, pre goo, night time. LOCATION: The Commons, PARTIES: @recoveringdreamer  & @the-lil-exorcist SUMMARY: Lil gets help from a stranger thinking that theirs a ghost around. Felix is, understandably pretty nervous. CONTENT WARNING: Slight sibling death tw
Lil was looking rough. She’d been up for about two days at this point, and knowing that there was someone trying to hurt her and Jonas out there - it didn’t really make sleeping seem like an option so she figured she’d push them out of hiding. After all, they had come up to her when she’d been alone, they might try again.
So she was taking extra long walks alone. It was stupid, and dangerous, but it felt like something that might end up helping.
Then all of the sudden she felt a ghost stiffening Lil looking around trying to see where the ghost was. It was going to be a pain to trap it, but she really wasn’t looking for a ghost meltdown in the middle of the commons. It might have been night, but she really didn’t need a ghost following her. It would be better to just banish it before it became a problem, and hopefully it wouldn’t mind. After all, if a ghost was bothering her with the guy hot on her tail -well it was easy to kill an exorcist when they were doing a ritual.
“Hey - do you mind helping me for a second?” Lil said her eyes focused on the nearest person, waving them down. While she didn’t know them, they were caporeal and that was pretty much all she needed. “Just for a moment. There’s someone following me and I just need someone to make sure he’s not there why I do something. ”
___
Walking home from work late at night always put Felix a little on edge. The adrenaline from whatever fight they’d been a part of on that particular evening always coursed through them long after the match was called, leaving them wired and on edge at best and jumpy at worst. The streets were usually at least empty as they made their way home, but… not tonight.
Tonight, there was a woman. Felix made their way to pass her, head down and hands shoved in their pockets in a posture that they hoped would communicate that they didn’t really want to speak right now. Which was something they inevitably felt bad about, because they tried to be friendly and kind and open to new people, but… not on nights like this. On nights like this, they just wanted to get home and collapse into their mattress.
Not that any of this seemed to matter. The woman zeroed in on them despite their attempts to look unapproachable, and part of Felix wanted to deny her request, but… she looked desperate and a little afraid, and Felix had always been so bad at saying no, even when they knew they ought to. So they shrugged. “What do you need me to do? Um, I mean… What should I do if he comes around? And what does he — Do you know what he looks like? The guy.”
If Lil was a praying person, she would have said a thank you to God - but well her mom told her not to thank anyone and she kept that as an oath most of the time. Still, when the other stopped she let go of a breath she wasn’t aware she had been holding as she looked around. A chill going through her again, as she could have sworn that she’d cleared this part of the park awhile ago.
Well, it wasn’t like the Reaper couldn’t take one more ghost out of the area. Still, she’d rather not just KO a ghost because she was having a bad day. She might not be a ghostbuster, but she still had some morals around that.
“I appreciate it - Well the guy I’m worried about was in a cloak thingy last time I saw him so I’m not quite sure what his face looked like. Probably punchable if that helps? Like don’t punch him I want to - doesn’t matter. I just need to draw something so I know it’s not a ghost with him telling him where I am,” Lil muttered the last bit as she went for some chalk. “There’s something around here and I don’t need two problems. If you see a dude just let me know.”
___
“I don’t want to punch anyone,” Felix said, blinking. Outside of the ring, they weren’t prone to picking fights. Even inside of it, they fought only because they had to, because there was a contract binding them to a violence they wouldn’t have chosen for themself. They weren’t going to punch a stranger on the street, even if they did have a face deemed ‘probably punchable’ by a separate stranger. Still, they wanted to help. If this woman was being followed, there was probably something wrong. Felix wasn’t one to just turn tail and run at that.
But… they froze as she continued, watching as she pulled chalk out. “A — What do you mean a ghost? Are you — Do you see ghosts?” Already, their heart was pounding in their chest. The run-in with Winter had been scary, but it was clear after a brief conversation that she was new to the medium business, and didn’t entirely understand it. That made her a little less terrifying to deal with, even if some part of Felix was still afraid of her. But this woman? This woman had chalk, knew some kind of ritual to be able to determine if there was a ghost in the area. She had experience. And that was bad.
Would whatever she was doing out Felix, too? Would it hurt the jaguar? Would she want to hurt the jaguar if she became aware of his presence? Their mind was spinning, and they took an uncertain step back. “I, um, I don’t know if I want to be a part of this.”
—
“Oh you don’t have too. Trust me, they won’t get too close if someone else is there,” Lil said not quite sure if that was true. Metzil had been with Jonas when he had been - in any case she wasn’t going to let the stranger actually get hurt.
At the question Lil nodded and said, “ Yeah - can’t you feel the temperature around here is wonky? It's about four degrees lower than it should be - oh that’s rude. If you didn’t feel it, that's perfectly fine. You aren’t wrong for not noticing it or anything I’m just sensitive to it,” Lil realizing that the other might be, what was the correct term? Otherwise alive? In any case she started looking around. To the trees.
Then she saw it, eyes that were too intelligent for the crow that they were inhabiting, a light glow around them that made Lil curse under her breath as she flickered her eyes away quickly. While she hadn’t dealt with them often, she knew well enough what it was as she heard a flutter of wings. She was close to telling the other, that she’d found the ghost and this one had a penchant for hurting people who were murderers so they should be fine just don’t look at the bird - when she heard a caw that sent a chill through her bones.
When the other started to move Lil said, “Wait don’t - Duck!” The shouting came as she saw a flash of dark follow the other as it tried to attack. Immediately trying to get between the stranger and the bird instinctually.
__
“Are you sure?” It seemed like an awfully big gamble to take. So did trusting a stranger to protect her, though. Felix wondered how she knew that they weren’t with whoever was following her if she didn’t know what that person looked like. “Do you, um… Do you know why they’re following you?” Maybe that would help narrow things down, too.
Now that she mentioned it, they had tracked the change in temperature… they just hadn’t realized someone else might feel it, too. The jaguar sometimes made them hyperaware of things that didn’t register at all to humans, and Felix had learned not to bring it up just in case. Her precision was impressive, though — four degrees? Felix never could have settled on something so specific. They shrugged a shoulder. “I guess it is a little cold,” they allowed, still uneasy.
They wanted to run, but that would be suspicious. She’d know there was something going on if they ran, would know that all wasn’t as it should be. And they’d feel bad about it, too. About leaving her to fend for herself, not knowing whether or not she’d be okay. They were afraid of her, but they didn’t want her to be hurt, either. They didn’t want anyone to be hurt. That had always been part of Felix’s problem, according to their father.
They couldn’t help but take another step back, fear clawing at their throat as the jaguar rumbled in their chest. She yelled, and Felix stumbled. Something came diving for their head, and the stranger placed herself between them and it. “Wait —” Felix stammered, grabbing her by the shoulders and pulling them both towards the ground.
Whatever answers Lil had - that she was pretty sure someone wanted her and her brother dead for some fucking unknown reason - to the fact that it was easy for an exorcist who had almost two decades of training to tell when it got cold stopped as soon as the dark bird darted out at the two of them. Her frustration was in her throat at it, annoyed yet again that this town seemed to throw things at her more.
It was instinctual for Lil to get in the way, she always had. When her dad was trying to get to Jonas she did it - when the bullies at school had been picking on a kid she had too. She was used to using her body as a shield, and while probably never her smartest move it was something that she’d never bothered to take out of herself. She might not fix things really, but she could at least prevent someone else from getting hurt. She hadn’t expected the stranger to pull her down with them and it stunned her for a second as she heard the bird caw angry it had missed. Swooping dangerously close to them with a woosh. If she hadn’t been making herself bigger she might have been able to grab it.
Hitting the ground she moved to try and find the bird without looking it in the eye - something that wasn’t going to go too well. Glancing to make sure the other was okay she tried to find something in her bag to catch the bird. She didn’t want to - well she wouldn’t want to kill it if she could avoid it as stupid as that sounded.  “Shit - okay that bird’s not going to stop and it’s pissed. It’s - a murder victim in it and whatever you do don’t look it in the eye okay.” She said quickly as she tried to scramble listening to the rustling of wings grabbing a plastic bag she’d taken from the bakery. “If you run, it’s going to follow you and try to kill you. Stay here and I’ll get it.” She said with the confidence she hadn’t quite earned. She wasn’t sure if this person had killed whoever was in the bird - but it was also equally likely that the spirit was agitated by the crystals that seemed to infect the town. It could have read her and the exorcisms she did and concluded she was a monster.
It wouldn’t be the first time after all.
Besides, they had just pulled her out of the way of getting hurt, and that went a long way with Lil to at least give them a fair shake.
___
The bird swooped down, close enough that Felix could feel the wind from its beating wings, but their quick dive kept both them and the exorcist from meeting the wrong end of the creature’s talons. And there was something terrifying about that, about the fact that they’d just saved an exorcist. Their father, if he were here, would have berated them for it. The exorcist wouldn’t do the same for you, he’d say. She’d kill you in a moment, mijo. She’d rip the jaguar from your body even if it meant tearing your body to shreds. You know this. Except… they didn’t. They didn’t know it. The exorcist didn’t seem nearly as malicious as their father had claimed they all were. Neither did Winter, who was perfectly kind even if she was a medium. Felix knew their father had been wrong about a great many things, and maybe this was one of them.
With the bird out of sight, Felix straightened back up, stepping aside to give the exorcist room to get up as well. Their eyes scanned the skies, looking for the bird even if they weren’t entirely sure what they were looking for. It had looked like a normal bird, hadn’t it? It wasn’t glowing, or monstrously huge, or sporting a mouth full of too many teeth. It was just a bird. An angry bird? Maybe it knew Felix was a cat and was mad about it. Or…
Oh, the exorcist was talking. Felix tuned back in, eyes still scanning the skies. A murder victim? The bird? “Someone murdered a bird?” Being a cat might really get them into trouble here, then. Cats murdered birds all the time! Maybe not jaguars — the one that lived within Felix tended to prefer bigger prey, often to Felix’s dismay — but cats in general, for sure. “I — how are you going to get it? Are you, uh… Are you going to hurt it? Because it’s just a bird. And if somebody’s already murdered it, it seems a little mean to…”
Flapping wings. Felix’s eyes darted instinctively to the sound, brow furrowing as the bird came into sight. His gaze locked onto the creature. Belatedly, they remembered what she’d said — don’t look into its eyes. But it was too late; Felix’s eyes met the bird’s in an instant, a brief glow flashing from the animal’s beady eyes to Felix’s deep brown ones. Their expression slackened for a moment, face going blank before a familiar fire began to burn in their chest.
Felix was well versed in housing a rage that wasn’t entirely their own. Their jaguar’s anger burned hot within them and, in this moment, it mixed well with the anger from that spirit within the bird. Two angry spirits, one host. Felix let out a low growl, eyes darting around for the target. Not the woman. She wasn’t the source of the bird’s ire. There was someone else. Felix could feel them. Bones cracked as the balam began to shift; they’d have better luck stalking their prey in jaguar form, after all.
“No - someone who was murdered is possessing the bird,” Lil said softly although not meanly. She wasn’t making much sense at the moment anyway and she knew the other might not understand everything even as she was trying to hear where the bird went. “I’m not gonna hurt it - I just want to catch it before whoever angers it gets pecked to death. With all the crystal stuff I don’t know if who their attacker is actually a murderer.”
She stalked the bird hearing it flap and keeping an ear out for it. It would be hard for the spirit to possess her but she never took a chance on that. Going to move towards the bird she paused realizing that the other got quiet.
Lil looked and - suddenly saw the other seemingly going blank for a moment cursing under her breath as she realized what was happening. It was bad and for a moment she wondered if it was her. Had she killed someone? Part of her wanted to say yes - she had destroyed spirits who didn’t deserve to be forcibly removed no matter what she said to herself. Still, their eyes seemed to glance over her to someone that she couldn’t see.
“I fucking knew it,” Lil muttered her attention now going towards the bird again with her bag open hoping to catch it before the other got to the person. “Fuck me. Birdy come on, don't make them a murder too. Come where I can see you. You might get me too, yeah? Hey Creep! You just attracted a fucking Valravn. - Holy shit.” Lil said distracted again as - she heard cracking and realized something bad must be happening. That wasn’t the bird.
__
“Oh. Right.” For all the supernatural things their family had taught them, they’d mostly steered clear of the spectral. Better to focus on tangible things — or, as their father had defaulted to later in life, tangible threats. Ghosts could be problems, but not as much as hunters or exorcists. Their mother often said that balam and ghosts had an understanding with one another, anyway. Spirits understand spirits, she’d said. But Felix didn’t understand the bird dive bombing them now.
She was right about one thing — the crystals made murder a lot more complex. “The moon, too,” they added, remembering Samir. “Uh, the blue moon thing. I, um… I heard it made people act different, too.” They hoped they weren’t giving anything away, fear curling around their chest.
But not for long. That bird caught their eye, and the fear melted away. Everything melted away, save for the rage. Rage towards a world too cruel to allow the spirit within the bird to live a full life, rage towards the murderer lurking in the shadows who’d seen to the end of that life. It burned through everything else, leaving the typically mild-mannered balam a host of fury that was hard to contain.
The exorcist was yelling, but she wasn’t important anymore. She held no interest to the spirit, so she held no interest to Felix, either. Their clothes tore and fell away as their body shifted around them, fur rippling over skin and tail and ears pushing through. It was a far faster shift than usual; there was no resistance, unintentional or otherwise. In a matter of seconds, a jaguar stood where Felix had before.
The jaguar’s tail swished from side to side, and he fell back on his haunches as his sharp eyes cut through the shadows. A hooded figure. A murderer. Dinner. The jaguar stalked towards the exorcist’s pursuer, licking his chops.
The moon? Yet another woman out to make Lil’s life harder. Still, it wasn’t something she would dwell on. She liked the moon after all, and had a tattoo of it on the back of her neck.
In any case she had bigger worries, like the person who was now - shifting? She shivered as a cat she wasn’t quite sure what it was suddenly came around as she tried to move back from them. For a moment she wondered if the cat  was after her - and then realized she had been right. Whatever the person was before her, they had been supernatural and were now possessed by a bird. Cursing under her breath and knowing well enough the possessed wouldn’t attack her unless she got in the way she moved to find the bird.
It would be easy to let the other kill her pursuer, and maybe if all else had been equal it would have been nice. Still the stranger was possessed, they didn’t make the choice to help Lil in this way and had been very frightened of having to punch a person let alone kill them. More so, the exorcist couldn’t let someone become a murder just because it would be convenient for her.
It wouldn’t make her any better than the man who had pushed her into the water. Just hoping something would kill her. She would just be a coward and force someone else to do something she didn’t want to do. Lil, for all of her faults couldn’t do that.
So she  moved to find the bird who was now sitting watching the big black cat that had once been a person stalking a person who may have killed the bird’s spirit. She did - almost quickly as a flash a red came out her hands shaking slightly with a chill as she threw her bag over it and muttered. “I’m sorry, I know. I’m sorry but that person shouldn’t have been a murder. Really. They don’t deserve that. You’ll know that when you get out of the bird. I know, it sucks,” Lil said to the bird hoping it understood as she tried to wrestle it to the ground so she could pull the spirit out forcing them to move on. Moving the bird in the back to the circle she had made earlier.
Under normal circumstances, the jaguar would have attacked the woman, too. He was indiscriminate in his rage, after all, angry at the world and what it had been allowed to do to him and to Felix and the body they shared. Were it not for the spirit burning through him, the jaguar would have had no qualms tearing through this exorcist, who scared Felix for reasons he couldn’t grasp. But that wasn’t what he wanted now. Killing the woman might allow the murderer to get away. And, with the murdered spirit whispering in his mind, the jaguar understood that this was unacceptable. The murderer had to die first. The exorcist could be dealt with after the fact.
So he paid no mind to what the exorcist was doing. She was inconsequential, at least until his job was finished. Kill the murderer, then worry about the rest. The jaguar heard the heartbeat nearby, speeding up as he prowled. The world narrowed to that quickened pulse, and the cat stalked into the nearby alley where the shadows moved. There was a flash of a shadow, and he swiped at it. Claws found skin, but not fatally. There was a cry, and then skin found metal as the murderer leaped to a fire escape hanging a few feet off the ground, tugging himself up.
Blood dripped into the alley. The jaguar yowled, balancing itself on its muscular hind legs and swiping at the ladder. It shook. The murderer cried out again. Yes. More of that, and he’d fall, would land in the alley and make the sidewalk a buffet table ripe for the taking. The exorcist was moving, was doing something, but the jaguar continued to ignore her. This was more important now.
Lil moved quickly getting the bird to the circle, where it struggled trying to get out of the bag - although to their credit, didn’t try to hurt the exorcist. It made what she was about to do feel awful, as she heard the yelps of a man who was trying to kill her trying to escape the jaguar. It felt wrong, feeling the bird tremble in the bag knowing that she would inherently mean that they wouldn’t get their justice.
Still, justice wasn’t the business Lil was in and the person who had stopped to help her didn’t deserve a fate like this. So she kept the bird trapped in her bag her foot on the entrance as she moved to keep her mind focused.
“Sorry - I’m sorry,” Lil muttered again before her words turned to ancient Greek - to pull the spirit out as gently as she could and quickly she felt the bird struggle more, feeling the pull out an almost mournful cry that she wasn’t sure wasn’t partially human.
“Spirit, remove yourself from the war path. There is no peace here - no solace in the blood shed. Come, take my hand and move to the River Styx. Leave the murder to his own punishment. Leave the land of the living knowing that I, Lilian Ballard, recognize you. Depart from the Earth and go forth to rest.”  Suddenly the chalk glowed white and for a moment she could see the spirit - a young woman who Lil could have sworn mouthed ‘I’m sorry.’ Before she got anything else though the spirit moved on immediately.
After all, it wasn’t the young woman’s fault. She didn’t mean to be vengeful, and now that Lil had pulled her from the bird there wasn’t anything left for her here. Opening the bag to free the now confused bird  Lil ran trying to find the black cat hoping that they were okay. Hoping she wasn’t too late.
____
The man on the fire escape was crying. It was a funny sight; it always was, when humans got emotional. The way they shook and trembled, the way their eyes dripped and watered, the quivering of their lips. Fear, in humans, looked so different than what the jaguar was used to seeing in his less-human opponents in the ring. He reveled in it all the same, enjoyed the way it tasted. Sweet, tangy, deserved. This man deserved to die. The jaguar would see to it that he did.
The animal was utterly unaware of what the exorcist was doing. He was so focused on the fire escape. He hit it with another swipe, and then another. It shook, it clanged. The sound of it had the beast yowling in quiet satisfaction, the way it vibrated at his touch feeling like a victory all its own. The man screamed, hoarse and terrified. The jaguar let his yowl join in the sound, let their voices become a choir of predator and prey.
And then, something happened. There was a strange pressure building in his chest, like birds flapping their wings. It built up, up, up, until it felt like it exploded, like it was all released from his mouth at once in another yowl. The haze over his vision lifted and, with it, the rage towards the man on the fire escape. The jaguar was still angry, because he always was. But something left him in that moment, and exhaustion settled in. The man on the fire escape, the exorcist… it all seemed inconsequential in that moment.
The beast fell back into a sitting position, and the man on the fire escape took his opportunity to scurry the rest of the way up to the roof, making his leave as quickly as he could, leaving a trail of blood in his wake. The jaguar let out a yawn, his massive jaws expanding and then closing with a snap. Tired. He was tired. Stretching his legs, the jaguar trotted away from the fire escape before retreating back into himself, relinquishing his hold on the body.
The shift was slower without an outside force influencing it. Paws turned to hands, fur to skin, tail vanished. Felix came back to awareness in the alley, naked and a little embarrassed. They spotted the blood on the concrete, the way there was some on their hands to match. Guilt set in, and they looked over towards the exorcist with her circle, heart pounding. “Did I — Fuck. Did I kill someone? I’m — I’m sorry. Please don’t — I didn’t mean to.”
Lil was panting, exhausted running over to see that she had been right. The black cat was slowly fading and the man scrambled up to the roof to move across the buildings. She wouldn’t be able to get to him if she wanted, the other now probably feeling victorious knowing that he’d gotten away. She wanted to scream, at the person that she heard scramble across the roof knowing that he’d tried to make a monster out of both of them. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair and she knew deeply that she’d have to live with that.
Still, her eyes turned to the other who was slowly starting to become human again, and realizing that he didn’t know. Frozen for a moment, feeling a measure of guilt and relief as she started to the other she started pulling off her jacket and then her plaid shirt to give the other it to at least make them feel more human.
“No - no you didn’t. He’s fine. He - murdered that spirit, and because that bird ate their heart and they never got justice they possessed you. She was trying to attack him to kill him but I helped her move on before she could - No you didn’t. Hey - look at me. You aren’t hurt are you?” Lil moved slowly, as if she would spook the other who’s name she didn’t even know. Getting close enough she tossed her shirt and said, “It’s okay. You didn’t do anything wrong. I’m sorry that you got caught up in this. I’m - sorry.”
Her hands were shaking, she could feel that now, realizing how close again she’d been to death and how the stranger almost became a murderer. Still, Lil decided that wasn’t important and instead reached out her hand and said, “I’m so sorry. Please let me take you home and make sure you’re okay. The ghost is gone so she shouldn’t try to possess you again.”
She offered them clothes, and Felix took them gratefully, keeping his gaze locked down on the ground as he did so. He covered himself as best he could, embarrassed at the state of themself, ashamed at what they’d almost done. It was humiliating, it was reprehensible. It was terrifying, too. This was an exorcist, one of the monsters they’d been taught to check for under their bed. She had the power to rip them away from the spirit that had been with them all their life, the ability to turn them into something they didn’t know how to be. Felix didn’t always like the jaguar, but they didn’t know how to live without it, either. And that was assuming they would live. According to what he’d heard, surviving such a thing was rare.
Panic clawed at them, even as she explained. A spirit, but not their spirit. A bird, not a jaguar. The exorcist helped her move on — what did that mean? Felix couldn’t help but wonder if she’d tell herself she was helping the jaguar move on or helping Felix move forward if she tore the spirit from their chest. Did exorcists tell themselves they were helping? It was difficult to align the stories that had terrified them as a child with the woman in front of them now.
“I’m not hurt,” they said quietly, looking down at her hand with their heart in their throat. “I — I’m okay.” What if she realized they were, technically speaking, still possessed? Would she try to ‘save’ Felix, too? “I’m fine. I’m — It’s okay. It’s not your fault. I’m sorry. I’m sorry if I freaked you out. I should — I should go. I should just go. I’m gonna go.” Their hands shook as they put her jacket on the ground, her shirt still being used to cover their more… sensitive parts. They felt a flash of guilt for that, too, but it couldn’t be helped, could it? “Sorry,” they said, unsure which part they were apologizing for now. “I’m sorry. I’m —” They took a step back, and then another. Then they turned, taking off towards home as fast as they could manage on two legs instead of four.

Chapter 1 of God of War "Lore and Legends": (part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Sometimes Father looks at me like I’m a stranger.
He frowns a little bit, and his eyes get dark. When he speaks, it’s usually just “Pass the goat butter, boy,” or something like that. If he ever smiled and asked, “How are you feeling today, Atreus?” I’d have to go check his hunting pouch for spotted mushrooms.
Actually, I have seen Father smile. But only when he’s sitting by the fire with Mother.
One night a few weeks ago they were discussing Leviathan’s balance and heft. The axe used to be hers, but she gave it to him a while ago. Of course, Father’s favorite topic of conversation is always weapons. But his eyes were so bright in the firelight, looking at her.
I could tell she means everything to him. Way more than me, that’s for sure.
Tonight is the best night of my life!
After dinner, Mother told me a bunch of amazing stories about Skaði, the great giant huntress. We talked about hunting for hours.
And then came the surprise!
She pulled something wrapped in oilskin from our weapon locker and told me to unroll it. I did and there it was — she finished the longbow! It’s beautiful! I helped her string it. She grabbed the bow and flexed it herself while I hooked the bowstring to each end.
I was so excited, I started to cough again. I don’t cough as much as I did when I was little, plus Mother has taught me how to breathe so I calm down. She taught me how to think about the animals I love.
Anyway, we’re going out to practice tomorrow, just Mother and me.
I’m so happy I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight.
I was right. I can’t sleep.
I can’t stop starting at my longbow. It looks like a flying bird. A hawk, maybe. When I nock an arrow, it’s a hawk with killer talon. I’ve decided to call it my Talon Bow.
What a day! I am sitting on my fvaorite old log in Wildwoods. Mother’s just down the path, refilling out water flask in the falls.
We’ve been on a practice hunt!
This morning, Father returned from another two-day trek just as we were heading out into the woods. He gave me a nod and hugged Mother. But when he saw the Talon Bow, his eyes got big.
“Very nice,” he said.
I handed it to him and slid an arrow out of my quiver. He notched it, pulled it to full draw, and sighted down the arrow’s shaft.
“Remarkable,” he said, squinting.
But he didn’t shoot. He just eased the string forward and returned the arrow to me. Then he gave Mother a look. He smiled… I think. It’s hard to tell with him.
Mother showed me how to set my feet in a direct line to the target… move them shoulder-width apart… nock the arrow and pull back with three fingers just below it… line up my eye behind the arrow’s spine… slowly let out my breath… relax and aim… shoot.
After an hour, I got pretty good at hitting trees. Hitting rabbits? Not so good. Mother is amazing, though. She never misses.
I wonder how she got so good with weapons.
Why do I still get sick? I don’t get it.
It makes me really mad. Like today, Father was glad to see I’m learning skills that matter to him, so he coiled thick straw into a round target so I could practice with my new bow. I wanted to impress him. My first shots were a little wild… I was nervous. But pretty soon I started hitting the bullseye.
As I drew another arrow, a black-trailed hare suddenly hopped out of a bush near the target! I raised quickly and swung left to aim ahead of him. But just before I released, I felt a weird pulse in my head.
It was the rabbit! I could hear it… like a voice, but not words.
He was really scared.
I felt bad, so I swung away… but the bowstring slipped from my fingers! The arrow shot straight across the yard toward Mother, who sat carving wooden utensils with her special knife. It hit the fence just above her. In that second of flight, I fell to the ground.
I wanted to bash in my own head, I felt so stupid. I could have killed the thing I loved the most! I started yelling at myself.

Wh y did Percy have a panic attack when the group when Artagan asked to be shown a “good time”? Why do you think he did anyway?
You mean in Episode 112? (A note: please give me a rough episode estimate, I can usually figure it out but knowing which transcript to search makes my life a lot easier)
Various reasons, I imagine. To look at the Transcript* directly:
TALIESIN: I am legit out of sheer panic going to take off all of my clothes and dive straight into that lake. That little pond? I’m washing. I have had a nervous breakdown. I am like, yeah, no, we’re naked into the water. MATT: “Well, that is considered good manners, definitely.” LIAM: 11 minutes from now, I’m going to be joining you, Percival. TALIESIN: I’m in there, yelling into the water right now because it’s been too much.
Context wise it seems to me it's not just Artagan and the preceding dialogue - it's that everything as a whole has been an awful lot, he's stressed as hell, and it's kind of worth remembering that Percy pretty canonically dissociated for several years after the Briarwoods - severe stress fucks him up. Further, he doesn't like it when he can't do anything - his love language is gifts and acts of service, he likes to be useful, and there is a grand total of fuck all he can do.
So, the various reasons for his panic attack, in my opinion:
Everything is pretty stressful and the stresses are all things Percy can't do anything about. He doesn't like that.
Adding onto that, Percy is a private person who was tortured. He likely has no interest in being party to whatever "good time" the others suggest to Artagan (Scanlan, Vex and Vax are actively flirting with Artagan at that stage, Scanlan prepping to remove his trousers and Vax making comments about removing his armour). Percy values his bodily autonomy and probably wouldn't want to be roped into it even if he wasn't already committed to Vex.
I repeat. This man has been tortured. The idea of trusting anyone, let alone a relative stranger, with his physical wellbeing, is probably not a fun prospect to him!
And then on top of this, he played a trick on Garmelie/Artagan the last time they met, with the Threshhold Crests, and Percy was familiar with the Feywild and Feywild stories - he's probably wary of retaliation and thus thinks he has even less reason to trust Artagan with his physical wellbeing.
Vax died. Vax is going to die. And at the end of the day, a good part of that is due to firstly, Percy's own recklessness in the tomb and secondly, not stopping the Briarwoods completely in Whitestone. Percy has a massive sense of responsibility. He very likely feels responsible for Vax's fate to some degree, and consequently the fact that his wife and his best friend are going to be losing someone incredibly dear to them. I don't imagine that helps matters any.
Also, he had the knowledge of the Divine Trammels in his head not that long ago and he says himself that he's "Not meant to know that" + not that long ago the whole love potion situation happened.
They are prioritising dealing with Vecna. Percy has had basically no time to process any of this and they are presently outside of time in the Feywild, in a relatively safe, known place - he can have a complete freakout for the first time in a while. They're not in the Mansion which isn't outside of time (and which they just learned isn't wholly safe) - they are on a whole other plane which interacts oddly with the Prime Material.
And... it's notable that after Percy's had his panic freakout, he returns to the group - still speaking to Argatan - dripping wet and naked. To quote!
TALIESIN: Coming back sopping wet and naked I’ll say: And we’ve got this weird thing that we’re not entirely sure about.
So yeah, I think for the most part it's just Everything being Too Much and Overwhelming with the others flirting with Artagan being the trigger that tipped him over the edge and aided by the fact they're finally in a pretty safe space and so he's able to take that needed moment to Screm.
*using the tumblr and not kryogenix because I needed to first find the episode and searching Artagan's name through the old tumblr is faster than filtering through every example turned up in the kryogenix database.

Leaving the Oasis (Part 1)
Something wasn’t right. Jasper noticed it, judging from his fiance's posture and the fact she’d been staring at the thick wedding scrapbook that belonged to Syrina for over half an hour. The page was of different ideas on who could walk the bride down the aisle-Syrina had her brothers do that, in place of her father since he had passed away when she was a child. Yue had mentioned it before one night when they were discussing if she was going to walk down the aisle herself or if Set would do it. Yue wanted to include all of the men who had been a part of her life. Starting obviously with Set, her adopted father, and then to her big brothers, with her twin being the last one.
Now Jasper had at first chalked it up to possibly just the stress of planning their wedding, which is to be held upon the New Lunar Year for both of their sakes. He will officially take on his birth mother’s title as Tsukiyomi, with Yue being his consort and wife. His Moonlight and be recognized as Queen in her own right.
And that begged the question: Why was she hesitating? She was usually excited, though he had noticed a certain pattern in the twins’ talks lately. Still, best he asks it now. “Moonlight?” He called out to her causing her to jump.
“I’m fine.” She answered too quickly and inwardly smacked herself. “Really, I am.” “Then why are you putting off going to see your big brother?” He asked as he returned with her hot tea whilst she sighed softly. “Is it because you’re nervous about his answer?” He needed to tread cautiously but his beloved nodded.
“And…well…” She tucked a long strand of her translucent rose-pink hair behind her pointed ear before facing her lover. “Is it me or have you noticed that Yun has been getting more distant? All we ever seem to talk about is Alli and then he says he has other things that need his attention.” She was annoyed at this but she also didn’t want to lose Yun completely.
Welp, that was part of the answer he expected. Having knowledge and wisdom of prior events, thanks to his transitioning into Tsukiyomi, Jasper has noticed a certain pattern developing between the twins. He could see the love that was still there, otherwise, Yun wouldn’t have bothered to stay within The Oasis and help Yue raise their teenage son. But Yun was holding something back from Yue, something the demigod couldn’t fathom yet he had a bad feeling that if the twins didn’t communicate…
Something tragic was going to happen.
Yue will admit that, yes, she has kinda noticed another pattern between herself and Yun. Ever since Ming Chi came into their lives, things in the house get pretty intense should the rui shi and Yun be in the same room. “Jaz, I’m worried and scared. Yun has nearly become a stranger to me. He’s been distant, hostile a few times-he’s always talking to himself and Castle won’t tell me why either. Says that it’s not his position to tell and even if he had, he asked me if I would still love Yun if I knew the truth-ARGH!”
Tumblr media
She put her hands over her ears and shook her head. Maybe she is overthinking this, maybe she shouldn’t talk to Yun about the wedding today, but then she knew that she had to. This might be the only time she may have to be free to talk to him. “I don’t understand why she is constantly trying to make out my big brother as some kind of monster that I should stay away from.” Yue won’t deny that it is downright frightening whenever she sees them alone. She can tolerate the sniping up to a certain point, but she has witnessed how easily it is for Yun to become so cold and demonic-looking whenever he gives veiled threats at their aunt.
It’s gotten so bad she fears that they will physically assault each other. She had tried on numerous occasions to stop it, but it was nearly impossible; it got to the point where Yun said that so long as Ming Chi lived under her roof, he would not come lest it was for Aladin’s sake. That broke her heart but she respected his decision and tried to at least talk to him within his own house; but, this is where they’ve ended up.
“I keep seeing him standing in the middle of a bridge, me behind him, but he’s too far for me to reach. And then…he vanishes.” A vision, one that she has been dismissing as just overthinking things and that she is stressed to the max, that’s all. Yun loves the kids, he’d never just vanish into thin air. So why is she feeling like something HORRIBLE is going to happen? No, I’m just overwhelmed and nervous because I rarely get to talk to Yun about these things. He’s not a monster, just rough around the edges like Jackal is. And the more she thought about it, the more that thought made sense.
“I just want my big brother to walk me down the last part of the aisle. But a part of me is asking, what if I’m making a mistake in asking him to be in our wedding party? He can only be civil to Aunt Ming Chi for so long and I’ve seen what he’s capable of. I’m scared that one day they are going to get so heated that they’re going to-”
