so i made some sprite edits for an older flora, end result figure 5! design notes beneath the cut

I wanted her to look older and keep the old fashioned layton vibes without looking too... matronly? i put more highlights in her hair, but with how ashy her coloration is i gave them a honeyed hue to avoid a premature greying look and a bit of a tanner skin tone to match. her hair is in a bun to make her a bit more distinct from the rest of our assorted main female characters and also to draw similarities with lady dahlia- who i like to think she reconciled with somewhat- and its lowered from the initial edit to make the angle less harsh and formal. i shortened her lashes and removed the blush marks to make her a bit more grown up looking and added freckles bc i think theyre cute and add to her apple motif. a long sleeveless coat to keep the classic layton family silhouette and put orange back in her color scheme, and red high waisted coulettes to mix up her preference for skirts while letting her be more active. also a greenish black belt that matches her shoes to break up the color a bit and large buttons to match. a white blouse with lantern sleeves to make it more feminine, red cuffs to mimic the canon design, and a long yellow scarf tucked into her pants for disguise purposes and to add some layers since she wears three (red sweater, white underdress(?), peach dress) in her post CV canon sprites. ankle boots bc they pair better with her wide legged pants, with white panels to look similar to spatz as well as make them more visually interesting without overwhelming them due to the color of her coulettes. 5 and 7 are the two finalized designs but the winner is 5 because it keeps the ribbons in her og design and adds a larger area of red to break from the browns and oranges and yellow of her upper half. figure 8 a+b are just simple straw traveling hats that i gave up on since her front curl is so iconic and i couldnt figure out how to fit the hat on top :P she's always brought to mind cinnamon apple rolls for me (bc she literally is one) so i tried a flat boater hat and put a golden swirl on the top.

hey im curious! do you think yheres a specific species of spider hornet and herrah would be or is it too vague to tell?

honestly i have no clue! i pull from different species of spider when im assigning traits to them (hornet especially). neither of them really look like real life spiders that i know of

however i think team cherry pulled inspiration from orb weaver spiders when designing the weavers (irl spider images under the cut). im p sure herrah is meant to be a different species because shes described as a "common beast"
