Headcanons for dating Wally West
Wally West x reader
warnings:
a/n: i was debating whether or not y/n is on the team or not n for this im going for y/n being a regular civilian but now im debating making dating hcs for a hero too 🤭
prompt: anonymous: “But if you're still taking requests (and speaking of fast haha), I would absolutely love if you could do a lil' something about Wally West ♡. I love that track star to bits and we're entering my favorite season ever : spooky season (or autumn for people who aren't chronically online like me). So if you'd be tempted to write some fluff/domestic stuff in autumn with Wally, I would be over the moon! 🦊”
Tumblr media
wally is so annoying (in the best way!!)
you aren’t too used to the whole idea of dating a metahuman, every day is like an adventure
and for a speedster? you’d be surprised how hard it is for him to find the time
but he makes time
*doorbell rings*
“you’re twenty minutes late” -you
“in flash-time that’s early” -wally, holding a half-eaten box of chocolates “i got a little hungry”
on his “days off,” you could usually find the two of you on the couch with a variety of snacks scattered across the coffee table and crumbs peppering the cushions and floor
“the dog will get them” -wally
“hate to break it to you, but i don’t have a dog” -you
“should i get you a dog?” -wally
he was always so goofy
and affectionate, very affectionate!
he loved to give you cheek and forehead kisses, so many so fast
“how many was that?” -you after noticing repeated pressure on your cheeks
“going on a hundred. i’m trying to beat my record!” -wally
it always ended up tickling and you’d laugh until you fell over
“wally!! wally, come on!!” -you
you’d always get bummed whenever he got called for a mission
especially because it always happened in the middle of something (dinner, a movie, study date, etc.)
then when he came home he’d be a wreck and then you’d be a wreck because you’d see him like that
then he’d have to calm you down and you’d have to help him feel better
“you dont have to do that, im fine! i swear!” -wally while you panic and try to take care of him
being invited to the cave!
meeting the team!
“just because youre meeting a half-kryptonian clone, a martian, an atlantean, some girl with a bow and arrow, and batman’s sidekick doesn’t mean you get to think any of them are cooler than me, kapeesh?” -wally
“oh yes, i know you’re the coolest” -you
the team loves you!!!
“wow, wally, thanks for proving your s/o isn’t imaginary” -artemis
“youre welcome” -wally
“do you want to come bake with me?!” -m’gaan
“please say yes, y/n. i’m so hungry. so so hungry” -wally
“let’s do it!” -you
starting to camp out at the cave while wally is on missions
also once some more dangerous people figured out wally’s identity, you got your own access code to the cave. EMERGENCIES ONLY
you used it to surprise wally once and got a stern talking to from batman. never again
you dont really spend too much time with the team, but you get invited to most of their friendly outings!
and you talk up a storm with the others trying to learn about their lives, which sometimes makes wally a liiiittle jealous
but you want to live vicariously through these interesting people bc ur life is a liiiittle boring
“can you tell me what atlantis is like? what it feels like to be underwater and how your fighting style differs on land?” “what’s your favorite dish to make on mars? do you like communicating this way or the telepathic way more?” “why do you always wear sunglasses, man?” (you know this one dick is like wally’s bestie) -all you
seeing wally less than usual when things start to heat up in his hero life :(
causes some strain and you get so so sad :(
but he always calls you when he can and tries to make up for it
and somewhere down the road when he retires you’re able to spend all your time with him and he makes up for lost time like he promised
ok i’ll stop there. happily ever after.

We’re breaking all the rules To find that our home Has long been outgrown Throw me a lifeline Cause honey I’ve got nothing to lose Once in a lifetime
“Why did you settle by the ocean if you’re so afraid of water?” Orm asked, sitting on the back porch with Y/N, watching the waves under the moonlight. She was strumming, singing one of her songs. He was starting to recognize them by now and he knew she sang this one because he liked it. She looked at him and shrugged.
“I used to love the water, felt free and happy in it,” she said. “I told you I was accused of something that I didn’t do. I do bare some responsibility for it though, even though it was an accident. Ever since then, I don’t want to go back into the water, but I can’t let myself forget that day. Part of me wonders if it was my fault.” She stopped strumming and set the guitar aside, wrapping a blanket around herself.
“Did you want someone to get hurt?” he asked. She shook her head. “Not your fault, you shouldn’t stay here feeling guilty. What I did…I wanted to hurt people, all of the pain I caused was because I was angry. You didn’t have that malice.” He looked at the water before looking down at his hands. She reached out and put her hand on his arm, instantly calming him.
“Do you remember feeling like that?” she asked. “Do you ever feel like that now?” He shook his head. “Have you tried to make things right?”
“Yes, I’m trying,” he whispered. She smiled at him and squeezed his arm.
“You’ll get there, let the guilt go, but keep becoming better. I’ll help you, we are better together,” she said.
Orm startled awake, the memory fading from his dream to his waking nightmare. He didn’t know when he had fallen asleep, sometime right before dawn. Last he remembered his mother and Arthur were still there making plans on finding some kind of proof of who tried to kill Orm. The footage was enough to clear Y/N of active treason, but she still could be held for conspiracy. Conspiracy to commit treason was a capital offense in Atlantis and she could still be executed if they didn’t find and get a confession from the culprit.
He was alone now with a note from Arthur that they had left to find proof in Atlantis. Arthur planned to talk to Hendrix and Atlanna was going to talk to Y/N. Orm went over to Y/N’s place. He hated to invade her privacy but maybe she had something. He started searching, trying to ignore that her bed was still unmade from where they had been together, her same clothes from her birthday on the floor around it.
“There has to be something,” he muttered to himself as he went through her closet. He moved some boxes out of the bottom and saw a small door, probably another small storage area behind the wall. He was able to pry it open and inside was a bag. He pulled it out and sat on the floor, looking through it slowly. He pulled out the mosaic of her and her father. It was cheap but well made, a product of the lower city where technology to film wasn’t as widely available. He set it aside carefully. Next came out a flyer for Atlantis for All, listing their goals as equal status, better living conditions, and fairness in the workforce. Orm remembered his father telling him that all those below the nobility were lazy, they just wanted people to hand them money and food without doing anything for it. At the time he had agreed, but this notice listed things that anyone would need to survive and thrive, which is what he thought his father wanted for all Atlantians. He set it aside also and pulled out a stack of papers. This was what he needed, letters to and from different people in AfA.
I work from morning until night, I never see my family, yet they still starve…
My mother died because we couldn’t get her a proper doctor, the nobility never have to worry…
My father died of the sickness King Orvax released when I was a child. King Orvax made me an orphan…
We can fix this. There is a way. King Orm’s coronation is on the first day of the Great Migration…
Here is what he needed. He read through the letter, it laid out a plan to protest, nothing else. They were to have Y/N sing, and Hendrix volunteered to bring the cracker. This was almost enough, but Orm needed something else. Aria was mentioned as one of the leaders of the group. He had to find her; she might have more proof.
Orm wasn’t sure where else to go so he went to the café. It was empty except for Y/N’s friends when he arrived. They were all glaring at him. When he walked in Dean came up and punched him in the face. It didn’t hurt, but Orm wasn’t expecting it and stumbled back a step. Dean was shaking his hand, wincing. He had probably broken a couple fingers. Aria pushed past him.
“Get out tyrant,” she demanded. Orm stood his ground. “We know you did something to her, no one can find her.”
“I didn’t do anything, but Hendrix took her back to Atlantis to face trial for treason,” he said. Aria froze.
“You’re lying, you gave her up,” she said, but her voice lacked conviction.
“If I gave her up I would be on my way to trial too. I’m a fugitive just as much as the two of you,” he said. “We need proof that Hendrix was the one who tried to kill me. I found a letter in her things with the plan for the coronation day, it says Hendrix was to get the cracker, but we need more than that, anything that makes it sound like he alone planned the attempt.” Aria was breathing deep, trying to remain calm.
“How do we know you won’t just take the evidence and destroy it?” Vincent called out. “What if you want to use her to get yourself pardoned?” Orm didn’t have time for this bullshit.
“Because I love her!” he yelled. “Because she is everything to me and I won’t stand by while they execute her. I can’t go back, no one will believe me if I say she is innocent, I’ll just get thrown in a cell next to her, but my brother is king. If I am able to get proof to him he can set this right.”
Aria watched his speech and nodded before motioning for him to come with her. She lived only a few houses down from the café and she also had a bag full of letters. She kept meticulous records and correspondence, including from Hendrix. Hours later she jumped up.
“I found something,” she said, setting the letter down in front of Orm at her kitchen table. By then everyone had joined them, watching. “This is from Hendrix, the day before the coronation. I think I received it by mistake. I never read it because well, I hated Hendrix and anything he had to say was worthless to me.” She pointed to a spot that clearly incriminated him.
“These people are idiots. They’re going to give me the crown and not even realize it. Tomorrow Orm will be dead and I’ll be king,” Orm read. This was perfect.
“Bless that asshole’s giant ego,” muttered Amanda from the couch. Orm stood and hugged Aria.
“I know you hate me but thank you,” he said. He looked between her and Dean. “I am sorry for the tidal wave, for everything. I was wrong and I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself for it.” He left it at that, hurrying out of the house and calling Arthur to tell him he had proof.

For the ask: Did you ever meet the goth mum_TM herself and if not, would you have liked to meet Anne?
I did!! I went to a book signing in LA for Atlantis back in 2016 and they announced the project to make a TV show! And Chris was there and Becket and Eric Shaw Quinn!
she was so nice and they did a Q&A and a lot of the questions were about writing and publishing and like all she wanted to do was gush about writing and encourage everyone to write and she was stressing how the world needs new voices and needs your voice and wants to hear the story you have to tell!
I knew Chris would be there so I’d brought a copy of A Density of Souls with me in case he’d sign it so when I went up to the table I was talking to him as well. I was teasing him bc I had this really old edition and he looks like such a baby in the author photo. He was dying laughing and showing it to everyone and went “MOM LOOK AT THIS, I’M LIKE A GAY LITTLE LOLITA!!” He also got up from the table to take a selfie with me and was just super nice. 🤣
I gave her a letter and if it got shuffled into one of the fan mail boxes at Tulane I will die 🥸 but I wrote her a note about how her writing was so important to me and how much it influenced my creativity. And I wore velvet and a CAMEO NECKLACE LMAO and she was like “oh your necklace is beautiful!” when I came up 😳
and like I knew it would be a quick in and out thing so my one burning question that I asked was if there was a band she based Lestat’s music off. She said The Doors!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Thinking about it more, I wanna expand on my Fallen Angel BBH headcanon, where he fell and became a demon because of Ironmouse questioning if the creator really existed (explained in this video), as well as update my personal headcanons/theories/timeline for q!BBH
Again, this is all my personal thought process, a lot of it is made up/may not makes sense, this is just me making a cool story lol:
Here's where my brain is at-
In her story, Ironmouse became curious in whether or not the creator existed, opening the inner chamber to see for herself. In the end, the image was stripped from her memory and she fell into the abyss below, along with many other angels who wanted to know, and was locked into a box, deprived of all her senses, until Bubi, the then ruler of hell, came along and freed her, wanting her power. She then became the new ruler of hell and.. you can watch her lore videos, they're really well made and she's super interesting
ANYWAYS!... BadBoyHalo :D
Going with the name "Saints of Games", before becoming a demon, Saint was an angelic deity that lived in heaven. He was a deity that revolved around games and luck. Alongside him was Philza, who is the angel of Death (Philza was not there when Mouse opened the chamber)
Being the curious creature he is, of course, he was there to witness Ironmouse opening the chamber, but knew of the dangers and stayed off to the side. So, when he fell down, he was not a part of Bubi's or Mouse's rule (as well as him not liking being ruled over).
Upon becoming a demon, he gained a new name and lost his status of being a deity of games and luck (with luck going to Alpharad and games becoming more like tricks/pranks), but he did not lose his power. Seeing as he resided in the outskirts of hell, most knew to stay away from him, resulting in him becoming very lonely, desperate for any type of interaction.
This desperation turned violent, growing worse as time went on, becoming hungry for food; for power; for soul energy... Until something finally happened.
Seemingly out of no where, he was dragged to the surface, summoned by a group of occultists, BadBoyHalo was pulled to the Earth's crust, against his own will. Unfortunately, they were a few centuries too late, this was not an all powerful demon, ready to make deals and offers- this was an all powerful demon, fuel with rage and hate, disdain for anything and everything that lived.
Atlantis sunk that day. Some random day in 9600 B.C.
Sitting in ash covered, charred ruins of once a thriving civilization, now sat a demon, curled in on himself, crying to no ears but his own. The one thing he wanted, he needed, was gone. And it was because of him.
For the first time in his eternal life, he felt so small; he couldn't stay here. He didn't want to stay here.
Thankfully, he didn't have to.
With the sheer amount of death and destruction he created, it was only a matter of time before one of Death's angel came by.
Philza, surprised to see Saint BadBoyHalo so far from hell, takes him to the Void as a last ditch effort to calm him down. I say "last ditch effort" because Philza tried to handle it there, but BBH was having none of it (they fought, which caused Atlantis to 100% sink)
Reaching the Void, BadBoyHalo was able to meet the Goddess of Death herself, Kristin (we love the goddesses in the household). Taking pity on him, the Goddess of Death, decided to help, healing his shattered soul and giving him purpose. While not fully whole, it was a start. From that moment on, he now serves as one of her highest ranking reapers (one of = there are others -> I see Missa as a grim reaper) BadBoyHalo then has the ability to travel from the Void to the surface, both for fun and for his job.
During this time, after destroying Atlantis, Foolish, a deity who once slept eternally, blessing a lucky few with the ability to come back from the dead, was awakened. He watched Philza and BadBoyHalo leave, but since he could not follow them, he walked the earth to bide the time.
In the background of all this BBH stuff, he is worshiped as a god, feared my many, and more, waiting for cross paths again. Basically, when BBH woke him, it forced a bond between the two that only death could break, but since BBH is immortal... they're kinda stuck with each other...
Eventually, BadBoyHalo finds himself in The War (hunger games), where he meets Cellbit. Instead of killing this small child, they form a pact, a deal-
BadBoyHalo becomes his familiar... temporarily, at least.
Of course, it doesn't last forever, they split paths; Cellbit gets arrested and BadBoyHalo does.. something???
Its during then and now where BBH not only finds Skeppy, but then the two of them manage to get themselves stuck in a timeloop, yet every time it looped, they still managed to find each other.
Skeppy is some sort of gem creature, being said to be made of purely diamond, only killable via extreme heat
To me, Skeppy and BadBoyHalo also form a pact, but it's way stronger than the one Cellbit and BadBoyHalo:
Skeppy is able to live for centuries, able to shift his body into any size and shape he so desires, look through diamonds as if they were his own eyes, shatter into billions of pieces and get back up again.
BadBoyHalo is constantly hungry, but no physical meal could satiate his hunger. No rare meats or pretty plants, rocks or wood, nothing.
Except soul energy.
In simple terms, Skeppy is a constant source of energy of which BadBoyHalo can eat from, without the worry of killing him. BadBoyHalo can consciously eat it, but he also naturally absorbs it, meaning that if he stays near someone for too long, he'll end up accidentally killing them or at least making them weaker. That's why, when he "pretends" to be the grim reaper, he's constantly telling people to drink water, or how he generally tries to keep people alive, healthy and happy- it lessens the chance for him to accidentally kill them.
By creating this deal, Skeppy gains some of BadBoyHalo's immortality, further becoming a constant fountain of soul energy.
With the idea that Skeppy and BadBoyHalo consistently found the other while in the time loop, I'm just gonna call them soulmates lol
Going back on myself, Skeppy being "a constant fountain of soul energy" is not an exaggeration, BadBoyHalo is considerably stronger the closer they are together. But, seeing as they are apart at the moment, BadBoyHalo is very weak; he doesn't want to feed off the other islanders, Cucurucho and the Code are not options he wants to try (looking at q!Slime being corrupted and q!Forever on the happy pills), so its just a waiting game
Things I don't know how to incorporate at the moment are all the references he makes towards Italy, being whatever happened in Venice and Naples, and anything involving Mount Vesuvius; I don't wanna make any guesses right now while cc!BBH is still dropping crumbs. Unfortunately, this includes anything with the Eggpire, not only do I need to rewatch it, but since it was retconned and cc!BBH said he'd reveal some stuff about it, that section is gonna be on hold for me. On top of that, apparently MCC being at least somewhat canon??? that was mentioned at one point
So instead, here are some little headcanons:
BBH hates being summoned, when he was summoned by Foolish, Cellbit, Roier and Jaiden is a perfect example of this; this trait was passed to Dapper, as she seems to also find it annoying to be summoned at random
BBH will pick up and cradle Dapper and/or Pomme while he sings to them, they find immediate comfort in being held by him
Grim Reapers don't kill, not often at least. They collect souls and guide them to the afterlife. It is the angels of Death that actively kill. This can be seen whenever Missa stands back while Philza kills off mobs. BBH, being a fallen angel/powerful deity, differs from this, as he does both the killing and soul gathering
BBH and Ironmouse never really knew each other as angels, nor as demons, but they could sense that the other was a demon, as well as just use their eyes, Mouse doesn't hide it and BBH is bad at hiding it. Tina, on the other hand, is good at hiding it! Since she has no wings and consistently files down her horns
Whilst wondering the mortal world, there have been times where people have tried to jail or contain him. Tried. Just for fun, BBH enjoys to wear some of the chains from their attempts, almost like jewelry! They make a frightening noise, clinking against each other, but it makes him even more terrifying when he appears without making any noise
Foolish and BBH love to fight, but it usually needs to be on a secluded island or a place very far from civilization because of how much destruction they usually cause
If BBH stands in one spot, the plants around him start to die. In contrast, if Foolish were to walk in the same path, they would regrow.
There are very few that BBH cannot eat soul energy from, some being: Death's angels and reapers (Philza, Missa, etc.) Dapper, Pomme, Tallulah and Chayanne. Everyone else would need time far away from him to recover, hence BBH living underground, far from anyone else
^ Foolish and Skeppy are technically in the same category for "infinite soul energy" but for different reasons
^ Very few eggs can withstand it, only the ones that are children of those who can already not be drained: BBH -> Pomme/Dapper; Philza/Missa -> Chayanne/Tallulah
^^ this means that, like Foolish, Leo has infinite soul energy

Elemental (Pixar) Thoughts
Okay so . . . I think I have gathered my thoughts for Elemental after seeing it four (yes really) times over the weekend. Spoilers incoming.
I wasn't expecting much from the movie, hell, I wasn't even going to see it but I had just gotten out of watching Spiderverse 2 for the second time and wanted to watch something cleanse my pallet. The trailers and marketing didn't really get me excited as it just came off as a bland Romano & Juliet esque film with the main hook being the characters were made of elements. Then there were the first few early reviews I've heard that called the film bland and another miss for Pixar.
So you can say i had low expectations going in.
But I was so so wrong.
I came out of my first viewing tearfilled, giddy, and gobsmacked. The film that was being advertised was not the film I had just watched and . . . I loved the film I had just watched . . .
The whole conflict isn't romantic shenanigans between cute Ember and sweet Wade, although that is important part of it . . .
It's about Ember being the child of immigrants, growing up in a city that wasn't built with her people in mind and which can be down right terrible to her just because she was born fire. It's Ember's struggle to live up to her family expectations and trying to be a good daughter all while slowly discovering that thing she spent her whole life preparing to do, wasn't what she wanted to do.
Ember's journey is very touching and relatable, leaving me to think about it hours after the film.
Then there's Wade and by extension, their romance.
Wade is honestly one of the sweetest and most loveable romantic interests I've seen in a long time. He's very attuned to not only his emotions but the emotions of the people around him. He's not afraid to cry and goes out of his way to cheer up those around him. The chemistry between him and Ember felt natural as they slowly fell for one another.
If I hadn't saw the trailer with him trying to help pick up her headphones, I honestly wouldn't have expected him to become her love interest. They start off in conflict with him writing citations for her father's shop but he ends helping her in her quest to get the tickets overturned.
The looks in this film is godtier, like, they were able to make elements so expressable (Wade being my favorite with how they were able to convey that he holds his heart on his sleeve.)
And it felt very refreshing that there wasn't a main villian (cough cough Zootopia cough cough). The main conflict is character driven by the choices and consequences of Ember.
It's genuinely making me sad that this film is being panned by a lot of people as being bland Pixar and boring.
I really hope that the film does do well at the box office. It deserves it.
And just because a film has a simplistic plot, doesn't mean it's going to be bad. It's the execution of it that matters. Pixar is known for this.
For me, film was refreshing drink of water on a pleasant summer's day.
Okay quick fire of my favorite moments and or scenes:
• The soundtrack was really good! I loved the scores that had singing in what I think is suppose to be firish? It provokes Atlantis: The Lost Empire vibes in me and that's my favorite score of all time so I see that as a plus.
• The openning scene of Ember's parents immigrating to Element City really set the tone for the film and was done really well.
• Wade giving his uncle the "that was uncalled for/are you fuckin serious" look whenever the uncle mentioned Ember speaks so well. The rest of the family is AwkwardPartyReactionMeme.exe.
• Yes customers can be that stupid and infuriating in real life. They were able to capture that so well. I feel you Ember, I gotta deal people like that everyday, it sucks.
• Butterfly, Windshield Wiper, Half . . . A Butterfly
• Wade really pulled out all the stops, nearly freaking confessing his love for her infront of his family who had just met her just to win a game. Like damn, you go dude.
• "I made you a painting of a sad man . . ." Uncle gives Wade a painting. It's of Wade crying.
• Ember's mom being able to sniff out love is hilarious to me.
• Kiss me I'm Firish
I CANT BELIEVE I FORGOT TO WRITE THIS ONE! BLUE FLAME FORGIVE ME!
• Act of God or an act of Clooooood.

Namor & Dorma headcanons below the cut, a very long post, lol.
Answering a question on the Namor forum: Okay, lets do this, class. You have a 6 issue mini-series, the goal is to have a dramatic and impactful return of Dorma to 616 and the world of the Sub-Mariner. What do you do?
My reply is going off current continuity where Namor is sitting in a jail cell and combining my own fanfic ideas:
Issue 1 - Namor is in jail, a few panels, or maybe a page to set up history, summary of back story/current situation to get new readers up to speed, his thoughts on his past life, his love for Dorma, his people, his friends like Vashti, his regret over how things ended all those years ago with a teen Attuma, nothing too lore heavy or complex. It ends with a splash page ACTION moment of a loyal set of Atlantean royal guards lead by Andromeda to break him out of jail while explaining that Atlantis needs him. Namor's thought bubble/narration box would be "of course Atlantis needs me, and I will forever answer her call" he stands up and breaks the handcuffs holding him, proving that he could have gotten out at any time if he wanted, a prison guard tries to stop him and Namor makes him back down with a glare as he leaves with his guard following into the waiting Atlantean ship. He takes the seat at the helm and Andromeda gets him up to speed as they race towards Atlantis. The Black Tide has returned and they've been causing havoc in the seas for weeks. Atlantis is in shambles politically and literally. Namor arrives in Atlantis and there's a few panels of him thinking about how many times his people and city have been hurt, before he asks where the council members are, many of them are dead, his cousins Seth and Dara have been trying to hold the line but both are unable to run the kingdom efficiently and mount a offensive against the Black Tide. Namor asks about Vashti and is told he's been kidnapped by Attuma several months ago. He's angry no one came to get him before but ultimately blames himself for having a pity party and trying to placate the humans. He says they are going to get his Vizier back and leads a team to Attuma's last known location via their spy network, it's a trap of course, that Attuma has baited for Namor which Vashti tries to warn them about before Attuma's people emerge, lots of action/fighting, a showdown between Namor and Attuma ends with Namor holding his trident to Attuma's neck who smiles his shark smile and holds up his hands, yielding, Namor is confused, thinking it's another trap but Attuma releases Vashti to Namor to prove his intentions were to ensure that Namor wasn't a weak king because the task ahead needs strength and if he had found Namor lacking then he would have killed him here and now. What is the task? The Stone has been activated, it's warping the waters around it in a vortex of black magic and no one knows what to do to fix it, monsters are emerging from it, and something big is coming. Ends on a cliff hanger.
Issue 2 - We are at the Stone, a huge shadow emerges and Attuma and Namor prepare to face it together, not a happy team up they still insult and snark at each other but they need to face this threat, the shadow comes out and it's Ambrose, the old giant monster goldfish pet of Dorma. Both are stunned bc the creature disappeared decades ago. It indicates that Namor and Attuma should follow him into the vortex, and Namor leaves orders with Vashti to return with Andromeda and help Seth and Dara restabilize Atlantis, and give aid, and Attuma agrees to let his warriors go along to protect everyone from the Black Tide's return. Attuma and Namor buddy road trip into the black darkness of the vortex. Action scenes as they fight twisted sea monsters/people and navigate the other side of the veil they have stepped through. Throughout we get Attuma’s backstory/history of what happened to him after the Chasm people died, basically a way to mix in his other origin of being born into slavery, except he was taken as a teen into slave camps of the whatever sea people, like idk Lemurians or someone else, he spends years getting stronger until he causes a revolt and his loyal followers are the people he liberated from the camps. Attuma of course lays all the blame on the Atlanteans and Namor, and tells him once they finish this task then he will be marching on Atlantis while dragging Namor’s corpse with him as a trophy to show Atlantis their half breed false king is dead and now Attuma is the ruler. There is a presence of Great Power in this vortex world, that they are drawn to. Ends with a cliff hanger of them being confronted by the presence.
Issue 3 - Opens with a action scene as they fight the Great Power which takes the form of a shadow demonic woman, as they do they are given flashes of their pasts, their wrong deeds, their regrets, their happy memories become twisted into nightmares, their souls darken with hate and power, their bodies begin to transform like the other people/creatures who live in the Stone Vortex, cool art of the transformations as they descend into madness and evil caused by the stone/great presence. Through the haze of this corruption, Namor recognizes Dorma is the Great Power and he pulls on memories of happiness with her, their times growing up, their time spent loving each other, fighting side by side as partners, he clings to the memories even as Shadow!Dorma tries to twist them into bad memories, he shows her his mind/memories of her death, and how badly it affected him, how lost he was after she died, how he grieved for her. Namor opens his heart & mind to Dorma knowing that if he cannot reach her then she will corrupt him as Attuma’s corruption is nearly complete. Namor shares his deep love for Dorma who finally breaks free of the Stone’s influence and remembers herself, her past, she recalls all the power of the stone. Namor and Attuma shift back to normal as a swirling vortex of power and lights rotate around Dorma who’s eyes go black as she commands all the power of the stone to be stored inside herself and locks the power away. All is quiet as the vortex world is gone and they are back in the ocean having been transported into the throne room of Atlantis, where Attuma and Namor are kneeling before a newly resurrected Dorma who radiants with power, her eyes are black, and the rest of the court watches in awe at the return of their beloved queen. Namor stands and reaches for her, saying her name “Dorma… you’ve returned.” comic ends there with a to be continued cliff hanger.
Issue 4 - Dorma's issue, it begins with Dorma as a child being raised in Atlantis’s court, her seeing Namor being an outcast and befriending him, her teachings of magic, her history, her father is her only surviving family, basically this issue is a love letter to Dorma and cements her past, her death, and explains how the interaction with the stone when she was a teen created an unbreakable link between it and her soul, how the power was so great she didn't know how to use and she just figured that after the events of King in Black she lost her magic powers but it was just dormant and after Llyra murdered her, her soul was snapped back like a rubber band into the Stone where it was trapped for all these years, how she spent years learning it’s dark magic, and being lost to the darkness until Namor reminded her of who she was and the comic ends with her back in the present, with Namor reaching out to her. She has returned, the stone and her magic resurrecting her body, but she has used much of her power and she does not have the full access as she did in the shadow vortex, which means she has magic but it’s limited bc of her resurrection. Namor and Dorma have a very heavy moment of their reunion where they hug but just before they kiss the news of the Black Tide’s return causes panic in the throne room. Ends on a cliff hanger.
Issue 5 - Namor, Dorma, and Attuma are once again reunited in battle, a call back to their time together from King in Black. Dorma tells Namor her magic is spent but she picks up a sword and is still ready to fight, Namor picks up his trident, and Attuma has his own sword. They are joined by Attuma’s people, Andromeda and the castle guard, Lord’s Seth and Dara, and… Warlord Krang. He steps forward and takes Dorma’s hand, kissing the back of it, slimy as a eel and with a glint of hunger for power in his eyes he compliments Dorma, saying he’s missed her, and how he would lay his life down for her, pledging to be her guard and friend. Namor is not impressed but he has to deal with that later. Dorma is suspicious but accepts his sword arm for now. This will play into later issues/comics where Krang is loyal only to Dorma, and slowly tries to influence her to betray Namor & get with him, but for now he fights alongside them as they go to face the Black Tide. Big showdown page. As the sorceress Sycorax uses her powers to make dead sea people’s skeletons rise and fight against the heroes, each character, Namor, Dorma, Attuma, Seth & Dara, Krang, and Andromeda have close up fight shots as they battle the Black Tide. Andromeda saves AttumaÂ’s life, citing that she only did that because she needs him to help save Namor and not because she thinks of him as her father in a kindly manner, the tension between father and daughter is there but Attuma compliments her strength and says if she had been born a son she would have led his own armies. She is hurt by the rejection even though she thought she was over it but she turns her back on Attuma and gets back into the fight. Cliff hanger on Namor facing the Black Tide’s leader Kharsa.
Issue 6 - The Black Tide wants the Stone that is currently laying dormant in the center of the throne room (later it would be revealed the stone cannot be moved from its place and it becomes a constant reminder and a centerpiece of the throne room, suspended floating in a force field that no one can touch) and they want Lady Dorma because she now the key to controlling the Stone. Namor says they’ll never touch her and he would die to save Dorma because he cannot lose her again. Fight scenes, Fight scenes, and then Dorma is stabbed in the stomach, Namor screams Nooooo, thinking he has lost her after only just finding her again, he gathers her in his arms, and she touches his face, saying that she’s always loved him but she wasn’t ready to die just yet, she had so much to live for, she “dies” her eyes closing and Namor grieves again, but then her eyes shoot open, black power with cool effects fill them and she heals herself, and she cannot control herself, as she directs all her power towards her enemies, but even as she drives away the Black Tide who fear her power and flee, she still cannot stop her destruction, she is floating with a lot of power around her, and she could kill everyone around her if she isn’t stopped. Attuma screams at Namor to kill her, but Namor refuses, instead he throws himself at Dorma’s power, it eats away at his flesh as he swims closer to her, and he yells out for her to remember herself, she sees the harm she is doing to Namor and remembers him and herself. She cries out as she shuts down the power and collapses. As she recovers she states she cannot trust the power within herself but will work towards controlling it. Wrap up the story with Namor, Dorma, and Attuma saying their farewells, Attuma promising Namor that their temporary truce is over and the next time he sees them he will kill him. Dorma is welcomed back by Vashti, Seth, and Dara, and other court members, while Andromeda stands next to Namor and comments on her return, asking Namor if it’s really her, and he says it is. Namor thanks her for being a friend and for for keeping her duties as the captain of his guard, and comments on Attuma, she says that her father will never change no matter how much she might wish for it and she’s given up trying to get his acceptance. Andromeda then asks him if he will kill Dorma if she loses control again and he says nothing. Ends with Namor joining Dorma in the center of the court and taking her hand to lead her up towards his throne where they will take their place as the ocean's rulers, a wide shot on the court, celebrations ensue, and then a pan away to one of the court members slipping away, turning a corner, and transforming into Empress Llyra, she holds up a mirror and speaks into it, saying that her plans are just beginning. The shadow figure in the reflection laughs. Ends with the promise of Court intrigue and drama, Namor and Dorma slowly re establishing their romance, and dark high fantasy adventures.
And that's how Marvel should do it imo. Anyways I will be writing this more in depth for my fic someday.

FrUK hanahaki AU, part 2! (Part 1)
So, Arthur tried a mysterious spell to get rid of his love crush infatuation unfortunate mental affliction for Francis and it’s left him with a good dose of the blooming cough. How does the land of Shakespeare, Milton, and Keats react to this?
Arthur:………………..FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!! *Coughing fit*
Seems about right 👍
Anyway, the writing’s on the wall now. Arthur is a brave nation who likes to solve his problems alone and hates to show weakness, but even he has his limits. Swallowing his pride (and a few petals) he goes to talk to Norway and Romania. Arthur doesn’t admit outright why he’s there (he’s not that desperate yet!) and instead shows them Atlantis’s spell. He hopes his friends might have a way to reverse it, but no luck. The magic looks too old and unstable. Norway says an antidote could take years of study or even decades. Arthur feels his heart sink. He knows he doesn’t have years. As he is now, one year might be pushing it.
Arthur swallows more pride (and petals) and goes to talk to his last hope: Yao. China isn’t a wizard himself, but he is one of the most magically attuned nations (can still see his dragons and the like). He’s also the only remaining nation who met Atlantis. Yao was a fresh faced youth during Plato’s “Single day and night of misfortune” when Atlantis sunk into the sea and was lost forever. They have tea and Arthur relies on a millennia of diplomacy to bring up the subject delicately: nothing gets Yao to shut up like a box faster than mentioning Atlantis. Arthur can’t afford to be kicked out. He needs detail that only Yao can give.
It’s not easy. The moment Yao sees the book and realises what Arthur wants, the atmosphere in the room turns arctic. Yao tells Arthur to drop it. Arthur won’t. Yao angrily tells Arthur to leave. Arthur won’t. Yao is about to try and throw Arthut out, when pain burns Arthur’s throat and chest and he doubles up, coughing. He can’t catch every petal and one flutters down to Yao’s feet. Yao picks it up, hand shaking.
“Oh, England,” he whispers. “Oh, you fool…”
It’s a long time before the fit subsides and Arthur can speak. China helps him to a chair and brings more tea. There’s no point pretending now: Yao knows. Arthur looks at the sheer, crushing pity on his face and is furious, mortified, and terrified all at once. Just from that look, he has his answer he came for: Atlantis cursed himself with hanahaki while trying to get rid of unwanted romantic feelings for someone. The curse won out, and Atlantis was doomed. Arthur asks who it was that Atlantis loved. Yao says it was Ancient Rome, or Grandpa Rome as the young nations knew him. Atlantis fell for the great empire in his early days when he was just a small city state. But the feelings weren’t returned and Atlantis, who was a master sorcerer, took drastic measures. Then all the other ancients could do was watch in horror as the disease consumed his entire being - land, people, culture - body and soul, until the cataclysm.
Now the same will happen to Arthur, to Britain, unless they do something. Arthur says there must be a cure, they just have to find it! He’s been through worse than this. He’s not beaten yet. A reversal of the spell would take too long but, there must be another cure out there. There must be! (Cope, Arthur, cope)
Then Yao sends him into another choking fit by demanding to know why he doesn’t just confess to Francis already
Once he calms down, Arthur asks WTF mate and Yao gives him the biggest “I am four thousand years old are you shitting me” look in existence. Did Arthur think he was being subtle about his feelings for Francis or something? Nope! Nope! So much nope! So just confess already, Arthur! Confess and get cured before it’s too late
Arthur is thunderstruck - he thought he hid his affliction masterfully! - but he recovers and retorts that Yao is wrong, it’s not Francis. It’s totally someone else! Totally absolutely! Someone else. Yao doesn’t know him (he lives in Canada). Yao gives him the look again. Arthur ignores it and says thank you very much for the tea but now he must leave immediately, goodbye forever. Yao calls after him that he can deny as much as he likes, but confessing is his only hope at this point. So don’t be a coward, Arthur! Your people need you. Confess!
Arthur pretends not to hear
Confessing would do no good anyway. Not when Francis doesn’t love him back
No confession! He’ll find a cure instead
When he gets home, the next fit brings up the first full flower
(I’m cutting it here for now, but I hope you’re enjoying my rambles! Stay tuned for part 3 at some point.
Should also mention that just for this AU, Arthur represents the British Isles rather than just England. So this is an alternate history where the Republic of Ireland never split from the United Kingdom. Also, UK bros Wales, Scotty, and N. Ireland don’t exist, like in early Hetalia. I call Arthur “England” a few times just because I’m used to it, but, in reality, he’s either “Britain” or “British Isles.” Otherwise what I have planned wouldn’t work (´ε` )♡)

Things that stuck out to me when rereading The Chronicles of Narnia series (in no particular order — under the cut):
• "And oh, the cry of the seagulls! Have you heard it? Can you remember?" (Chapter 17, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe) — Just a really peculiar part of the narration. The narrator often talks to you as the reader, but usually to draw a comparison that the reader would know, never to ask a question. As far as I can recall, this is the only passage like this in the series!
• "The box was Atlantean; it came from the lost island of Atlantis. [...] For in the very dawn of time Atlantis was already a great city with palaces and temples and learned men. [...] The Atlantean box contained something that had been brought from another world when our world was only beginning." (Chapter 2, The Magician's Nephew) — Atlantis??? Mentioned once and then never again???
• "None of the party except Edmund (and perhaps Trumpkin) was a rock climber." (Chapter 9, Prince Caspian), "Edmund was the sort of person who knows about railways." (Chapter 13, The Last Battle) — The most random details about Edmund, and hereby certifying him as Dork™.
• "'In this bottle,' he said, 'there is a cordial made of the juice of one of the fire-flowers that grow in the mountains of the sun. If you or any of your friends is hurt, a few drops of this will restore them.'" (Chapter 10, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe), "Every morning a bird brings me a fire-berry from the valleys in the Sun, and each fire-berry takes away a little of my age." (Chapter 14, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) — The idea that not only do things grow on Narnia's sun, but a number of them have healing properties, is absolutely wild. Plus these birds either live on the sun or are capable of going there!??
• "It had long been known to the great kings of our race that there was a word which, if spoken with the proper ceremonies, would destroy all living things except the one who spoke it. But the ancient kings were weak and soft-hearted and bound themselves and all who should come after them with great oaths never even to seek after the knowledge of that word. But I learned it in a secret place and paid a terrible price to learn it." (Chapter 5, The Magician's Nephew) — There's a lot of speculation that C. S. Lewis's idea of the Deplorable Word came from the atomic bomb, and while it would be interesting to learn what perhaps he had in mind as the Word itself, but I'm more interested in Jadis's background and what that terrible price she paid was.
• "For my godmother was a very remarkable woman. The truth is, she was one of the last mortals in this country who had fairy blood in her." (Chapter 2, The Magician's Nephew) — I feel like there's a lot to unpack with the fairy godmother just with the few details Lewis gives us. She possessed the Atlantean box, and wanted Digory's uncle to destroy it upon her death with certain ceremonies. She'd been to prison due to unspecified things. And we're actually told her last name was Lefay. To which we can immediately connect her to Morgan le Fay of Avalon in the stories of King Arthur, who was a fairy enchantress. Furthermore, Avalon was known as the island of apples, which had soil that could produce crops of its own accord and was self sustaining without farming, and those who lived there could live for hundreds of years, and King Arthur goes there to be healed of his wounds. Which is such a good layer of detail considering the tree with the apples later in Magician's Nephew that grant the White Witch immortality and heal Digory's mother.

What's the Atlantis Box?
Ahaha....
While Canon has shown us the Chinese Box(the one we usally deal with) and the Native American Box(where the Eagle came from), there is implied to be ones from all over.
So in one of my AUs, Forged, we have another Miracle Box come into play. This one is from Atlantis. It was lost when the city sank, therefore being spared from Feast ravaging the Guardian Temple. But an expedition in 1914 recovered a few artifacts including the Miracle Box. At some point it ended up with Ariel.
In Forged, with things going kinda fucky due to the.... Everything™. Ariel decides to 'lose track of' one of the Miraculous and the Bear ends up with Chloé.

Disney's Atlantis (2001) will have no more sequels, and Intellectual Property is why.
In short: IP law. But not the "make money by writing it off" thingy.
Epistemic status: a memory of a Q&A panel from 2002.
At length:
Atlantis was released in 2001. It had a giant mechanical lobster,
Tumblr media
and some neat steampunk submarines,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These submarines go on a neat adventure through underwater passages past shipwrecks of ages past, break through a big door, and arrive at an underground cavern filled with forgotten machines, which power up when you insert glowing crystals in them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's the whole problem with Walt Disney Animated Series film 41: Atlantis: The Lost Empire, its sequel, and really the entire story and concept.
In 1992, renowned painter James Gurney released the picture-book Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time, which featured a neat little steampunk submarine, the front one in this series of maquettes by Glenn Ludgate:
Tumblr media
In 1995, Gurney published a sequel, Dinotopia: The World Beneath, where a group of intrepid explorers use a steampunk submarine to go on an underwater excursion through the remains of wrecked ships of ages past, through a door, to a cavern full of forgotten machines which power up when you insert glowing crystals in them. Including an evil lobster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1999, Gurney published the prequel, Dinotopia: First Flight, which told the story of where those sunstone-powered mechanical marvels came from: the drowned city of Poseidos. The story included a chase sequence with sunstone-powered flying trilobites.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are, shall we say, certain parallels.
In June 2001, Disney released Atlantis: The Lost Empire. The film allegedly underperformed at the box office, taking in $186.1 million against a budget of $90-120 million. In 2003, Disney released the direct-to-video sequel Atlantis: Milo's Return, which collected content previously intended for a canceled TV series. It competed with Shrek.
During his April-September 2002 exhibition at the Smithsonian National Museum of National History, an audience member asked Gurney about the parallels between the recently-released Atlantis and Gurney's designs for Dinotopia. Gurney replied that he couldn't comment, but that his lawyers had reached an agreeable settlement with Disney.
Because the lawsuit was settled out of court — if it in fact existed, which is what I here allege — it left no records. I have found nothing by search; if you find any documentation of this, you're welcome to publish it. Disney acknowledges that Atlantis drew from Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. For other plagiarism allegations, you will find much more documentation of alleged parallels between Atlantis and Nadia: Secret of Blue Water and Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
In May 2002, Hallmark Entertainment and Walt Disney TV released a three-episode, four-hour Dinotopia miniseries. A sequel series of 13 episodes was released beginning in November 2002, produced by ABC and Hallmark Entertainment. An animated film was released in 2005 by Hallmark Entertainment. There were also a series of Dinotopia video games for PC/MAC GBA, and GC/Xbox in 2002 and 2003. It's this really-tight cluster of activity, right after Atlantis came out.
In 2007, Gurney published the fourth and latest Dinotopia book, Dinotopia: Journey to Chandara. It's very beautiful.
In 2013, Disney remastered and rereleased the Atlantis films in 2013.
------
These Atlantis gifs are hand-cut with ffmpeg in 720p 15fps, straight from the movie, and the Dinotopia images are sourced from James Gurney's blog, "Gurney Journey" which I highly recommend as a source of traditional-media painting advice as well as general art advice. The Dinotopia books are a joy to read, and if you want, there is a YA novel series as well as a pair of novels by Alan Dean Foster. Gurney also wrote several guides to illustration and painting, and in general is a nice old man.
Don't blame James Gurney for stealing Atlantis. Blame Disney for stealing Dinotopia.
------
Reading Comprehension Questions:
What parallels does OP see between Atlantis and Dinotopia?
What sources does OP cite for the core allegations in this essay?
What is OP's stance towards Disney? Towards James Gurney?
Who does OP blame for Atlantis being dead IP?
How would your personal stance on copyright law affect the outcome of a lawsuit between James Gurney and Disney over stolen intellectual property?
Fanfic prompt: The Atlantis expedition wash up on the shore of Dinotopia. The expedition arrives a few years after the Dennisons do, with Will and Sylvia off on their new career, and Arthur having a bit of an empty-nest syndrome. No one knows where Lee Crabb is.

Alright so I'm trying to take my mind off of some horrible stuff rn, so I'm gonna theorize some more about Indigo Disk based on some stuff I just learned
Before we go further, keep in mind that Pokémon does mix and blend some myths and folklore around to get a result, so it could be many things
So let's get talking about it
Tumblr media
Okay so Terapagos. Pretty obviously our Terastilizing source and the hexagon pokemon mentioned by Heath and the professor.
A few popular theories floating around about it is that it's based on World Turtle mythologies- yes, plural, because it's actually a pretty common mythos found in many Asian religions and even some from Indigenous American religions. Yeah I knew it was mentioned in Hindu, but apparently a lot of people looked at these bad boys and said "yeah that could hold us." It's neat
BUT Terapagos itself is neat in that it's name also references Galapagos Islands, famous for Darwin's study of evolution and also home to Galapagos tortoises.
Could be something, could be nothing.
On a different note, you know how everyone figured out that the Teal Mask legendaries are based Momotaro? There's another Japanese folktale that could bear some significance here.
The Tale of Urashima Taro
I am going to paraphrase, but essentially, a guy some kids messing with a sea turtle. The guy stopped them and helped the turtle back to sea. To thank him, the turtle offered to show him a place called Ryugu-Jo- or as it's known to us, the Dragon Palace, an underwater castle at the bottom of the sea, where Taro met a princess named Otohime, and was welcomed and treated handsomely for several days. After a bit, Taro became homesick and wanted to return home. Otohime gave him a box called the tamatebako, warning him to never open it. When Taro came back to land, he found that 300 years had passed. Everyone he knew and loved had died, and everyone basically thought he sank at sea. Taro opened the box thinking it might help him, only for a puff of smoke to transform him into a feeble old man.
Now let's look at what's represented here:
1. Sea turtle
2. Underwater kingdom
3. Taro is warmly welcomed
Obviously Terapagos is the sea turtle here
The underwater kingdom?
Tumblr media
Maybe not so much a kingdom or Dragon Palace, but it is a very fancy underwater school dedicated to battling
And as for the warmly welcomed part: we're exchange students, by this point already Champions of Paldea, and we've met and hung out with Carmine and Kieran in Kitakami- plus given how Pokémon usually is, we're most likely given the welcome wagon.
Now the question is this: given the ending of Urashima Taro, are we to expect something bad to happen to us?
Idk about 300 years passing, but given the history that Heath endured in Area Zero and the madness that eventually took over the professor, it's probably safe to say this turtle may not be so innocent.
Of course, there's another theory floating around that also makes sense: Atlantis. Everyone knows Atlantis, especially modern interpretation that it's a lost, ancient civilization home to all sorts of ancient technology. Blueberry Academy most likely could fit this as well- but... maybe also the Dragon Palace.
Think about this: who makes a damn school underwater? I know mine flooded in heavy rain, but we usually tried to AVOID the water, especially water that could lead to thousands of pounds of pressure breaking in and drowning us all. That and the school specializes in battling- why here?
Unless... this facility is looking and preparing for something.
A place? An object?
Maybe Terapagos IS the object and its being kept there- another reason to be out at sea is to hide. After all, how did it leave Area Zero otherwise? Why the secrecy with the name in the books?
Now let's consider this: who would have knowledge of Terapagos? The professor obviously, but they're dead
At least... one of them.
In Violet, Arven's mother left shortly after he was born. In Scarlet it was Turo. In fact, lots of employees left the original professor.
Theory time: the opposite professor took Terapagos to Blueberry Academy to hide it.
We know that the professor invented Tera Orbs about 10 years ago- that means that they had access to Terapagos that recently.
We also know the AI hated the professor's plan and wanted to stop it at all cost.
What if the deadbeat parent came back for Terapagos? Or eas entrusted with it by the AI at some point?
We also know BBA is a fairly recent build in comparison to N/A Academy, which has been around for hundreds of years.
My theory is that the opposite professor had the school made- or maybe was hired into it- in order to hide Terapagos or use it for their own purposes.
Hell it may not even be the professor. It could be any other of his employees.
Anyway that's enough theorizing. For all we know it's all unrelated and Terapagos just shows up somehow.

Miraculous: Ocean Storm (Tales of Tiger Shark)
Prologue (Rebirth Part 0.1)
How long had it been?
How long had they been stuck in the box? years? decades? Centuries? Millennia? Eons even?
For a Kwami, time was nothing as they were immortal and ageless, born from concepts and aspects as old as the universe, perhaps even older. they would never die, even if one's miraculous jewel was destroyed, they would not die, but phase out of the mortal realm. As they were immortal, Kwami's did have one problem; they got bored. They had been stuck in the miracle box ever since that day, when for some reason, Plagg, Kwami of Destruction, used Cataclysm on the whole of the Island-Continent of Atlantis. The Kwamis hid in the miracle box, which was closed by one of the human priests, hoping to save them from whatever destruction The Feline Kwami had unleashed.
It worked, the box was not destroyed, Thank Gimmi. But they were stuck in the box, unable to get outside and find out what had happened, if the Temple of Poseidon had survived the disaster or were they under a pile of rubble? Over the years, or days or whatever, they had heard voices, and many different languages from many people, but the Kwamis could not see who they were. So it had been for as long as they were in the box and their little picket dimension.
Then came two voices, that sounded very close to the box.
"Hey, Jag! Come look at this!" The young woman yelled to her boyfriend, a young-looking man with messy purple hair and the beginnings of a goatee. He and the young woman with him were walking on the beach on the Island of Bimini, which was one of the islands of the Bahamas.
The man looked at what his girlfriend had found, which was some type of odd-looking chest, dark blue with brass framing, making it look like an old-time Treasure chest, like those seen in movies and books about pirates. this idea got Jag excited.
"Looks like a treasure chest, Nanarky!" Jag said, using the woman's nickname. which got a slight glare from her as Anarka picked the chest up
"Can't tell if this has a lock or not," She said, looking it over. "I don't know if this can be opened."
"Eh, perhaps we might find it on our way back?" Jagged said
:"Perhaps," Anarka said, "Lets hope Customs doesn't stop us."
Soon the two started walking back to their hotel, carrying the unknown chest, not knowing that a few years later, it would change the fate of their home city of Paris forever...

Say it ain't so! Major Disney delays...
The biggest, for me, is Pixar's original sci-fi movie ELIO leaving March 2024...
Not for June 2024, where INSIDE OUT 2 is parked...
But June 2025... Yep... 2025...
For a movie that has teaser poster and a teaser trailer...
The actor's side of the strike is ongoing, yes, but the severity of this delay seems to imply something else is afoot...
This is the biggest delay for a Pixar movie since the time they delayed THE GOOD DINOSAUR, originally set for a late May 2014 debut, all the way to Thanksgiving 2015... Two movies that were to open after it, opened before it. The movie was, of course, delayed because John Lasseter was unsatisfied with director Bob Peterson's work on the movie and had him removed. The plan was to originally have some of the Brain Trust "shepherd" various sections of the incomplete movie and still possibly make the May 2014 release date (as a lot of assets had been rendered, possibly animated even), until it was decided to throw it all out and start over. Peter Sohn was handed the reins, and worked off of some basic core ideas of Peterson's movie/concept. Naturally, they needed about a year to not only turn it around, but make the movie.
I'm not sure if that's happening to ELIO, because it was but a few months away and has a teaser. GOOD DINOSAUR didn't have that before the director removal and subsequent delay, only the footage and concept art people saw at the 2013 D23 Expo.
Maybe some sections need work or need to be redone, without impacting much of the finished movie. Very possible. CG allows those kinds of fixes more so than a hand-drawn film does, so maybe...
Or this could be a dirty tactic on the studio's part. "You're gonna keep striking? Well then! No movies released in the first quarter of next year!" A scare tactic to make SAG-AFTRA cave, but we know SAG-AFTRA... They'll stand firm.
I'm thinking it could also have to do with INSIDE OUT 2 existing. That has the juicy mid-June slot for this year, typically a prime slot for a Pixar. At least, in pre-COVID times. And also, its a sequel to one of their biggest original movies... Which was also a June release in its respective release year (2015). Instead of pushing INSIDE OUT 2 back a full year, Disney figures... Nah, make people wait for the original alien movie, INSIDE OUT 2 is top priority! A surefire hit, too, after years of Pixars either going straight to Disney+ or not being massive at the box office. ELEMENTAL may have just eked out, but Disney probably wants a guaranteed big hit next from Pixar, not a riskier big-budget science fiction animated movie.
Weird coincidence. After INSIDE OUT in 2015 came GOOD DINOSAUR. We went from INSIDE OUT to a Peter Sohn-directed movie. Now, we go from the Peter Sohn-directed ELEMENTAL to an INSIDE OUT sequel. Rhythm and rhyme. Just me? Probably.
We know how those tend to do at the domestic box office... TITAN A.E., ATLANTIS, TREASURE PLANET, LIGHTYEAR, STRANGE WORLD-
So... Yeah... Pixar's slate is now INSIDE OUT 2 in June 2024, ELIO in June 2025... Then two movies set for 2026, one in March, one in June. I reckon TOY STORY 5 is going to be the June 2026 movie, and one of the originals for March.
In addition to these delays, Disney removed the Searchlight movie MAGAZINE DREAMS from the calendar entirely, like they did with THE BIKERIDERS a few weeks back. The live-action SNOW WHITE vacated March 2024 as well. Instead of booting the LION KING prequel MUFASA out of summer 2024, SNOW WHITE has instead been delayed all the way to March 2025...
So, Disney has no big tenptole-type movies - after WISH until the pending May release of DEADPOOL 3.
Outside of POOR THINGS, I don't think they really have anything else, period... Until DEADPOOL 3. Again, in May...
Ya know, if they just... Paid their actors...

Essential Avengers: Avengers #310: DEATH in OLYMPIA!
Tumblr media
November, 1989
The triumph of BLASTAAR!
He's won already? Then what will the rest of the issue be about?
Blastaar is a nothing villain to me but I gotta say. Another good cover. Byrne's run has been good with covers.
Last time in Avengers: the Avengers had some business with some pissed off Lava Men but the only important take away is that Gilgamesh somehow died. Except he's not quite dead, only mostly dead.
The Avengers took him to Sersi to get him looked at, she shrugged and suggested they take him to Olympia. Except they only found a crater where Olympia should be (because Sprite accidentally blew the whole city into the Negative Zone).
Thor uses Mjolnir to track down Olympia and the Avengers explore the strangely empty city. And then Blastaar comes out of nowhere and blows everyone up.
This time: Sudden Odin
Tumblr media
HEY, LISTEN TO THE CAPTION BOX WHEN IT SAYS TO ATTEND.
Odin calls the Warriors Three of Hogun, Fandral, Volstaag because his Odin-Senses have been tingling that Thor has come into the Negative Zone.
There's a bunch of Thor Lore - or Thlore - that I don't want to get into but for reasons Asgard is currently also in the Negative Zone.
But Odin senses Some Kind of Danger. He can't be more specific because he's Odindrowsy and must go into the Odinsleep soon. But he wants the Warriors Three to go, find Thor, and help him with whatever.
Meanwhile, in Olympia, Thor grabs Sersi and shields her from Blastaar.
... Byrne, you're the only one writing Avengers. How are you forgetting stuff issue to issue?
Last issue, Thor couldn't touch Sersi at all because she'd weirdly gone intangible.
Anyway, Blastaar and Thor trade boasts for a bit. Blastaar boasts that surely Thor didn't forget how much of a whallop Blastaar's blaasting packs? And Thor has a much stronger retort that Mjolnir is really cool and he's gonna kick Blastaar's ass.
Thor throws Mjolnir, Blastaar deflects it with his blaasting, and Thor dunks on him some more by saying if Blastaar "hast within thy soul no single shred of nobility... that thou might also be a foe truly worthy of a scion of Asgard."
Blastaar retorts by blowing up Sersi.
Tumblr media
Which Thor does not care for as a rebuttal.
Shooting the hostage is a pretty dumb thing to do when facing a superhero. It just makes them mad and now you have no hostage to threaten.
Ya dumb, Blastaar.
Elsewhere, Nazi-punching pals Captain America and Namor McKenzie emerge from beneath some rubble. Or rather, Namor drags Cap out.
Cap is in bad shape.
Namor only knows that a bolt of pure, concussive force hit them so fast that Namor couldn't tell where it came from.
But there's the pyrotechnics of a big battle happening at the tower, so they know where to look for answers.
Cap tries to tell Namor not to fly off half-cocked since Cap is still too shaky to back him up. But flying off half-cocked is what Namor does.
Namor: "Do not try to stop me, old ally. He that attacked us has besmirched the honor of the avenging son of Atlantis! If he awaits in yonder tower... the waiting shall not be long before he knows my vengeance!"
Cap knows better than to try to stop Namor from flying off half-cocked so he tells him to at least be careful. Y'know, think before he acts. Wait for backup if he can.
Namor has already flown away so fast that Cap might as well be talking to a wall.
Cap speculates to himself that Namor's "manic nature" might be caused by his hybrid nature, being half-Atlantean and half-human.
I think this is foreshadowing a reveal that exactly this. Namor is a jerk sometimes because his body chemistry is weird and spending too much time on land or in the ocean fucks with his moods.
I think later stuff walked back on that and had it be that Namor is a jerk sometimes because he's a jerk sometimes.
Anyway, Byrne sets up retcons with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, huh?
Captain America is interrupted in thinking about what a genetic nightmare a half-human half-Atlantean is when he spots a crater with She-Hulk lying in the center of it.
Tumblr media
She apparently did see what hit her so she's able to tell Cap what the class already knows. Blastaar is the dude that's antagonizing them today.
Since the battle is raging in the tower of the Great Hall that she and Sersi were exploring, She-Hulk comments that she didn't expect Sersi to give such a good fight to Blastaar.
And she's instantly proven right a panel later when, instead, Thor and Blastaar explode out of the tower, locked in combat.
Hey.
She-Hulk.
Every Eternal is a flying brick. Have some respect.
Also, couldn't Sersi just turn Blastaar into a pig? What's the limit on that?
I mean, she can't now. She blew up. But if she did get a chance to fight, doesn't she have a win button for like 90% of fights?
Anyway.
Thor and Blastaar take a really long time to fall out of the tower, punching each other along the way. Then Namor jumps after them and yanks Thor off Blastaar so only Blastaar is plummeting. But Blastaar blaasts the ground to soften his impact.
Meanwhile, a mysterious man in a white suit kirby krackle-ports into an alley, scaring off a homeless man.
Tumblr media
The mysterious man is like good nobody who matters noticed me MY PLAN IS GOING FLAWLESSLY!
Hi, new subplot.
Granted, Avengers East Coast doesn't have nearly as many subplots as Avengers West Coast has. Avengers West Coast is all subplots and Avengers East Coast is all main plots.
Weirdly unbalanced but hey. Maybe that is a-changing.
Back at the plot, the Avengers have all surrounded Blastaar, who is blaasting nowhere near them to keep them at bay.
He says that obviously, they're trying to trick him into targeting one of them so the rest can gang up on him BUT HE IS TOO SMART FOR THAT.
She-Hulk asks him to exposit why he's even here. Last time she saw him (back in Fantastic Four #318), Annihilus blasted him to atoms.
Usually people die when they're killed.
This 100% works to get Blastaar talking because villains love expositing.
So back in that FF issue, Blastaar's own men had turned on him and shot him with a stasis ray. Since he was held in stasis, he couldn't be disintegrated. Which is the opposite of stasis. Obviously.
When Annihilus annihilated everyone else, Blastaar just got sucked into Negative Zone space and floated around for a while. He eventually got sucked into a negative space wedgie and got dropped on Olympia when it was dunked into the Negative Zone.
This all makes perfect sense, insofar as anything in comics ever makes perfect sense. As in, not really but sure.
The Eternals found Blastaar near death and not being dicks, they decided to heal him.
Tumblr media
Blastaar: "I was grateful. To show my thanks, I tried to slay them all as quickly and painlessly as I could. Foolishly, they resisted... And the price of that resistance was utter destruction! I only hope it pained the stupid brutes as much as their stupidity pained Blastaar!"
You're kind of a dick, dude.
Anyway, in a twist, Blastaar was talking to distract the heroes, who were attentively listening.
He blaasts Thor and She-Hulk. Namor jumps right into battle and gets immediately blaasted.
Leaving just Captain America.
Captain America: "Blast it all! What comes over Namor?! Sometimes he acts as if he doesn't have a brain in his head!"
Cap tells Blastaar not to get cocky because he's still standing, which Blastaar scoffs at. Captain America doesn't even have super powers! Depending on the era!
Captain America: "Maybe not. The super-soldier serum that transformed me into Captain America made me a perfect physical specimen, not a super one... But I still have a few aces to play... Such as my legendary shield!"
Really depends on whether you consider peak human to be superpowers or not.
Both Captain America and Black Panther have a thing where a super drug made them about as strong, fast, durable, whatever as it is physically possible for a person to be.
But a comic book's idea of what that is means the two of them do stuff that is blatantly super-human but in the world of a comic, anybody could hypothetically train to do maybe?
I usually just consider it to be a superpower, albeit a low key superpower.
Even if you don't consider peak human a superpower, the super-soldier serum has slowed Cap's aging way the hell down. Which sounds super to me.
Anyway. Cap rushes right at Blastaar but with his shield up, allowing him to deflect the obvious counterattaack.
He manages to tackle Blastaar but the Negative Zonian kicks Cap away and then blaasts the tower of the Great Hall, sending debris raining down on Cap.
But then Cap is saved by the Warriors Three!
Hogun smashes the rubble before it can smash Cap.
Blastaar thinks oh shit more Asgardians. So the instant they turn to look at Thor pulling himself out from under some rubble, Blastaar books it.
He just scarpers.
He decides to exercise the better part of valor until he can turn the situation back to his advantage but then the weather turns against him.
The wind kicks up, the air glows with energy, and Blastaar is lifted off the ground.
It's weird weather but it's not weird Thor weather!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's weird Eternal energy ghost weather!
The energy ghosts bonk Blastaar into the scenery for a bit and then throw him to the ground. They coalesce into the Eternals and then Ikaris does what he does and kicks Blastaar's ass.
Cap asks the question everyone is wondering. Hey, why aren't the Eternals dead?
And Sersi explains it.
Eternals are hard to kill.
They have "complete control of their physical structure, even down to the atomic level."
Blastaar lucked into his blaasts having resonant frequency to disrupt the Eternals' control of their atoms. So they disintegrated. But it just took them time to regain their senses.
Then they pulled themselves back together and kicked Blastaar's ass. There was no reason for the Avengers to even be here! The Eternals would have solved the problem eventually!
Hell, Blastaar blaasting apart the Eternals was a one-time thing. They apparently all adjusted their resonance frequency so he won't be able to stomp them again.
Okay, so what about Gilgamesh?
He was just away from Olympia too long. All the Eternals are bonded to their city but Gilgamesh spent so long in exile that he's bonded with Olympia so much that the city is life-sustaining for him.
Actually, I can't tell whether Gilgamesh was away from the city too long or that Olympia being dunked into the Negative Zone weakened him at the wrong moment and he got hurt in a way that he couldn't heal from without Olympia.
Eh, I guess it doesn't matter.
The take-away is that Gilgamesh is leaving the Avengers and eh. I can't say I'll miss him because the writer shake-ups meant that he never really got a personality or a niche on the team.
Like the Worst Roster, all I can say about Gilgamesh is that damn, he coulda been more.
Thena mentions that it's a pity Gilgamesh has to stay in Olympia.
Thena: "It pleased me to have a member of our race serving side by side with the noble Avengers. It bespoke a day when human and Eternal might stand as one, all ancient fears and jealousies gone forever." Captain America: "A day well worth hoping for, my lady. And perhaps, we should not too soon assume the link between our people has been broken. There are other Eternals. Others who might take the place of Gilgamesh in the ranks of the Avengers."
It's gonna be Sersi.
I don't know how long it's going to take but we're almost in the 90s so it's gonna be any time now.
Hurry up, Sersi.
Cap asks how Olympia wound up in the Negative Zone and, yeah, Sprite did it. He accidentally exploded the city into another dimension.
He apologizes as much as he cares to. The non-apology apology "it was never my intent to cause distress."
It doesn't matter. Thena fixes it with a single button press.
Blastaar gets taken away by the Warriors Three to go to Asgard jail. Thor declines returning to Asgard because he likes hanging out with Avengers on Midgard (Earth).
Tumblr media
As the Warriors Three leave on their space chariot, Olympia fades out back to Earth. And the next time box teases big event Acts of Vengeance.
And I didn't care for this two-parter.
For all the many plans that Byrne seems to have for West Coast Avengers, he seems to be spinning his wheels in this book.
It really feels like this whole two-parter just accomplishes bringing Blastaar back (who cares) and immediately putting him in Limbo again (Asgardian jail).
That's a point B that didn't need to exist between his death that wasn't going to stick permanently and an actual good story that comes after this.
Olympia getting blown into Negative Zone space because Sprite touched a thing he shouldn't have touched, Blastaar conveniently being able to solo the Eternals, the Eternals able to come back and kick his ass without any input from the Avengers, sending Olympia back to Earth taking one button press... It all makes the story feel really pointless.
What changes if the Avengers had just gone to Olympia, it wasn't blown up, and Thena tells them what's wrong with Gilgamesh? Not a lot.
I don't like what Byrne is doing in West Coast Avengers but at least he seems to want to be there. How can you have no ideas already? You've only been writing six issues!
Maybe I'm just grumpy. My cursed future knowledge tells me that Avengers Island gets destroyed in Acts of Vengeance and that's more squandered potential. More writer shake-ups meant that the setting never really got a chance to shine.
Oh, well. Bomber jackets lie in the future. Bright hearts, clear eyes, something something.
Follow @essential-avengers for all these posts but in order and without other stuff. Like, reblog, comment, do stuff, I dunno. I get lonely down here in the italics.
