How Many Hints Does It Take to Change Your Life: a "Take a Hint, Dani Brown" review
Class is in session! Get ready to take some notes (and a hint or two). My review for "Take a Hint, Dani Brown" is here!
Content Warning: Take a Hint, Dani Brown deals with issues related to anxiety, loss of close family, and brief mentions of emotional trauma. It is still a romcom, though, so the heavier topics are balanced out very well. Also, if you’re under 18, I’m once again gonna be your internet elder and advise you to stay in a child’s place. This book isn’t for you. Reader discretion is advised. Spoilers…

Promptlet(!): Chloe Brown and Redford Morgan! I was just wondering the other day if you'd ever done fanart for them. I realise this was not on the list though so please do disregard if you're not feeling it <3
Chloe and Red- she's having a bit of a late afternoon flareup and he's putting up her hair.
If you have not red 'Get A Life Chloe Brown' oooo you should! It's basically a Romione AU, it is adorable and sexy and has fibro representation.
@nagemeikenu rec'd it and boy oh boy did it deliver!

Maybe we should do a book club on the Brown sisters series- because so far I've loved book 1 & 2

Sarah my sweet sweet babe can you do a story where Eddie is a single dad of twins who are maybe in like 5th grade and Reader is Steve’s sister who works at the library and that’s where he meets her? Their names can be whatever you want!❤️❤️❤️
Hiii lovey!! So I am just now noticing you said 5th grade and not them being 5 so I am very sorry about that😂🙈 I went with them being 5 and this is very short but it’s to give you an idea of how a story like this could go? To test the waters if you will? I hope you enjoy💖
*The girl’s names are super random and can change if you have something you like better! It will 10000% not hurt my feelings if you hate the names lol*
*Eddie just wants to take his girls to get some new books but as always they have other ideas*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Daddy is not going to let you get all those.” You place your hand over your mouth to cover your giggle as you see two little girls walk past you, both with their arms full of books.
“He will too they are his favorite.” You slowly follow behind them with your cart full of books to place back in their correct spot on the shelves. You can’t help but notice the section of the library they wondered out of, science fiction, which wouldn’t be an issue if they didn’t seem to be no older than maybe five or six.
“How do you know? You can’t even read.” The blonde one stops in her tracks and turns so she’s glaring at her brunette haired sister.
“Now that’s just rude.” You’re about to ask the little girls if they need help finding their dad when all of a sudden someone rounds the corner and lets out a dramatic sigh when he sees them.
“It’s about time.” He says as he reaches down and fixes the bow in the blonde girl’s hair that’s keeping half of it up while the rest flows freely past her shoulders. “I was about the send out a search party.” The girls laugh as he kneels down so he’s eye level with them. “Let’s see what we’ve got here….Rachel first since she’s the one who asked oh so nicely to visit the library in the first place.” The brunette little girl grins as she hands the man her pile of books.
You lean against your cart as you watch the interaction between the three of them. Rachel is all smiles as the man who you can only assume based on how all three of them have the same curly hair and big brown eyes is their dad, looks over her selection of books putting one in a stack next to his converse covered foot. The other little girl is patently waiting her turn but also smiling as her dad puts another book on the stack next to his foot.
“Excellent choices sweetheart but I say let’s maybe stick with the Harry Potter series for now and let’s save the Hunger Games for another time?” You feel your eyes go wide as he mentions two book series that are usually read by much older kids. Rachel just nods her head and picks up the two books next to his feet, both being Harry Potter books. “Now let’s see what you’ve got going on over here little miss Lydia.” You smile as she proudly hands over her stack of books and the man instantly smiles and nods as he picks up the first book on the stack. “Really? Again? We’ve read it six times already princess.” You see that the book in his hand is the Hobbit and you’re not surprised based on the other little girl’s selections.
“I like Bilbo.” Lydia explains and the man just smiles and puts it on the floor next to his foot, creating another keep pile like he did for Rachel.
“Honey…this is the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy…don’t you want something you haven’t heard before?” Lydia just shakes her head and he just lets out a sigh of defeat as he places the three books on top of the Hobbit. “Okay well let’s help Rachel put her books back that she’s not getting.” With that Lydia grabs one of the books that Rachel picked that didn’t make it to the keep stack as the man picks up the lord of the rings series.
“Told you he’d let me get them all.” Lydia smirks as Rachel just playfully rolls her eyes, you quickly try to act busy so it’s not painfully obvious you just spent the last five minutes watching a man and his little girls pick their next library books.
“Excuse me ma’am,” You turn your head and all of a sudden you’re face too face with the dad and you have to admit he is extremely handsome up close and personal. “Can they give these to you? I’d normally take them back myself but we are running late for someone’s music lessons.” He smiles down as Rachel before looking back up at you with hopeful eyes.
“Oh of course.” Rachel and Lydia each hand you a book and give you kind smiles before they turn and take off towards the front of the library so they can check out their books. “They have great taste.” You joke as you place the first two volumes of the hunger games on your cart full of go backs.
“They do don’t they? At least for two kids who can’t read yet and just make their dad do it all for them.” You laugh making Eddie smile as he moves the books in his arms to one side so he can reach his hand out towards you. “I’m Eddie…Munson.” You make a mental note of his name in your head because you swear you’ve heard it before as you reach your hand out to shake his.
“Nice to meet you Eddie.” You say after you introduce yourself. “I think you’re being summoned.” Eddie raises an eyebrow as he looks over his shoulder and low and behold there’s his two girls waving him down and pointing at their wrists letting him know he needs to hurry because they’re already late, not that they are old enough to tell time but they just are impatient and want to leave the library.
“Ah yes my little timekeepers.” You laugh as he looks back at you and smiles. “Nice meeting you…maybe I’ll see you next time?” You’re not sure if he meant to ask it like a question but you just nod making him grin before he turns and heads off into the directions of his girls who are now visibly showing their annoyance of having to wait for him.

The dynamic and initial characterization of the Archeron family in ACOTAR is…frustrating.
Trying to make sense of the Archeron sister’s backstory in conjunction with their future character development is enough to drive a person to the brink of madness. It’s a straining experience to try to accept the story on Maas’s terms due to how jumbled the continuity becomes as the series progresses. Specifically, the dynamic of the Archeron sisters feels artificial and contrived. It’s a dynamic meant to evoke as much pity as possible from the reader and in doing so, it creates a clash between Maas’s first draft of these characters and their future developments. I find that it makes it difficult for one to immerse themselves in ACOTAR’s world building and characterization because it lacks harmony with the rest of the series. Furthermore, Maas writes a kind of suffering that is indulgent and gratuitous, not seeming to care about how doing so might create problems in her story later on. It makes analyzing the later developments in the story akin to fist fighting the narrative in a Walmart parking lot at 3am.
Example #1 : The Dissonance of Nesta and Elain
The initial characterizations of Nesta and Elain is shallow and although they develop farther along in the series, they can never quite escape the impression of their introductions. In the early chapters, Nesta is a haughty ingrate who staunchly refuses to help Feyre with running the household while Elain is clueless and unhelpful. They behave terribly towards Feyre, but in a manner that feels like something out of a stand-alone story for young children and not the first book of a trilogy.
“Nesta picked at her long, neat nails. “I hate chopping wood. I always get splinters.” She glanced up from beneath her dark lashes. (…) “Besides, Feyre,” she said with a pout, “you’re so much better at it! It takes you half the time it takes me. Your hands are suited for it—they’re already so rough.””
“Her brown eyes--my father's eyes remained pinned on the doe. "Will it take you long to clean it?" Me. Not her, not the others. I'd never once seen their hands sticky with blood and fur.”
They are the embodiments of the “evil stepsister” archetype but are written with no nuance or thought for how their future development might look. They are tools that exist solely to make Feyre’s life as hellish as possible and this is especially apparent with Nesta. Nesta’s initial one-note meanness confounds me, especially when her character is expanded upon later in the trilogy. But here, she acts cartoonishly cruel and spoiled like the sisters in Cinderella and her initial moments do not do enough to suggest her complexity that is eventually used in ACOSF. This dissonance in Nesta reflects the flaws of Maas’s characterization and follow-through. The story indulges in Feyre’s suffering and asks the reader to feel terrible for the plight of this poor and unfortunate soul… but it all feels so gratuitous.
I was never fully convinced by The Archeron family dynamic, how could I be when the characters are not characters but instead are torture devices for the main character? They are elements that converge to make Feyre’s life as miserable and pitiful as humanly possible, but does so in a way that feels utterly shallow and cliche. I can’t become invested in the way Feyre is mistreated because it reads as pain for the sake of pain, it’s shallow and uncompelling.
Example #2 : Feyre’s Non-Existent Relationship to her Unnamed Mother
“My mother. Imperious and cold with her children, joyous and dazzling among the peerage who frequented our former estate, doting on my father the one person whom she truly loved and respected.”
Another example of this relates to Feyre’s relationship to her deceased mother. Feyre is intent on honouring her vow to her mother and yet, it seems like she harbours no positive emotions towards her. Descriptions of her relationship with her Mother are scant and reveal very little about any potential closeness between them. From this passage, a read could surmise that Feyre’s Mother cared more for wealth and status than her children and had little affection for them as a result. It wasn’t as if Feyre and her mother were uniquely close or had a strong bond or something that might justify honouring that promise (especially when she comments on the unfairness of placing that burden on a child very early on in ACOTAR).
“There were times when I hated her for asking that vow of me. Perhaps, delirious with fever, she hadn't even known what she was demanding.”
So what is the narrative purpose of Feyre’s loyalty to a parent she was never that close with and breaking her back to fulfill a promise made in delirium? Her mother is a complete afterthought and yet Feyre for some reason puts herself through the wringer so that she honours that promise? Why? It isn’t compelling for the heroine to sacrifice that much of herself for a family that has no real emotional stakes in the relationship dynamic. THIS does not make a good story, it is so fixated on creating a tragic background for its heroine that it strips the supporting characters of all intrigue and ironically makes the mistreatment Feyre faces feel flimsy and almost comically exaggerated. HER MOTHER AND FATHER DONT EVEN HAVE NAMES!
Example #3 : Feyre’s Father
Feyre says that their family had been impoverished for 8 years, but I fail to grasp how a family of four could subsist on the income from an amateur huntress and her sales of animal pelts. Am I to believe that all of them spent those past 8 years twiddling their thumbs while Feyre did everything on her own? While I’m aware that this is a fantasy series, it seems unrealistic that Nesta nor Elain ever gave Feyre any substantial assistance when it came to running a household. The idea that their prissiness and spoiled attitude prevented them from lifting a finger makes no sense because a mindset like that would never allow them to survive in such an environment. None of them have jobs or bring in any income to support the family and somehow I’m meant to believe that Feyre’s earnings were enough to support all of them. Meanwhile, her father is too ashamed to even attempt to aid his daughters.
Feyre’s father is presented as feckless and an object of resentment for Feyre and Nesta. Although he is given slightly more depth than Nesta and Elain initially, he is never truly expanded upon as a character and is confined to a pathetic characterization.
“What I really wanted to say was: You don't even bother to attempt to leave the house most days. Were it not for me, we would starve. Were it not for me, we'd be dead.”
Oh look! Her father is useless too! Her only living parent who “hadn’t argued when I announced that I was going hunting.”. Although papa Archeron is kind to Feyre, this doesn’t culminate in a meaningful character arc later in the book and his inaction as a father is left to fester. Feyre’s relationship with him is similarly shallow with her relationship to her mother and does not offer the reader anything to latch onto when Feyre leave her family towards the end of the book. I just feel that the story would become so much more emotionally compelling if there were any reasons for Feyre to truly have a connection with her family and if it were not a barrage of misery.
So basically…
I just can’t become invested in Feyre’s plight when it is so indulgent in her suffering (at the expense of some potentially compelling characters). It feels manufactured, it doesn’t feel real (in the sense that it is extremely contrived) and I hate how Maas makes the family dynamic more emotionally nuanced later on in the series, but is constantly at odds with the initial impressions of these characters. The potential is there, but Maas seemed to care more about making the backstory as sad and tragic as possible rather than considering any potentially complex emotional realities the characters would have to grapple with later on.

Ninjago Remastered Designs!
Tumblr media
THEY'RE DONE! After months of work!!! They are DOOOOOOOOOOONE. WOOOOOOOOOOO! Lol! Welp, these are my Ninjago designs! Basically, this is my take on the Ninja if they were in a 2d animated cartoon! And yes! I will be drawing more characters. Tumblr butchered the quality, so close ups and design notes are below the cut. They're pretty detailed, so I highly recommend checking them out. Feel free to ask questions about the designs! ⬇️⬇️⬇️ - ✒️🐉
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When designing these outfits, I tried to take inspiration from the ones in the show. And in terms of art style, drew inspiration from early 2000s cartoons, (Action Adventure ones specifically,) Anime inspired shows, and even a hint of traditional Disney animation. And while I designed them with a 2d cartoon in mind, most of the designs would most likely have to be simplified for them to be used in animation. So let's get started!
Kai: Kai was a pretty fun to work with. I actually didn't plan on giving him a sleeveless outfit. But it happened! And I like it! If you'll notice, the flame pattern on his vest mirrors the pattern on his sister Nya's outfit. I thought that would be a cool detail to include. It was inspired by their March of The Oni outfits. I also made sure to include his scar and bandaid. And gave him reddish brown eyes to signify his elemental power. Him and sister I imagine being Brazilian/Taiwanese. So I hope I captured their ethnicity properly. I'm pretty happy with this design. Especially his hair, which was hard to replicate.
Jay: Jay was a hard one for sure. I wasn't too sure how to vamp up his outfit. So I started by giving him some lightning patterns on his Gi. (At least I think that's what it's called?) And I decided to make it look a little baggy and soft. It just seemed to suit him. I tried something a little more form fitting and didn't look right. Also! A fun detail I included was his half the Yin Yang pendent around his neck! And of course Nya has her half. I imagine him having Irish ancestry, so I gave him pale, freckled skin. And gorgeous curly red hair. (As a fellow red head, I'm very proud.) Overall, I think he turned out pretty adorable. And his face is spot on.
Nya: Nya I pretty much got right on the first try! I just had a really clear vision of her in my head. I gave her a grey outfit with bright, vibrant blue details. The pattern on her Gi is inspired by Koi Scales. And she has her half of the Yin Yang pendent around her neck. I really like this one, because while it is simple, it's beautiful. And I think it reflects her element nicely. The only thing I missed was to give her a symbol like the rest. But overall, I love it! One more thing is that I wanted to give her and Pixal different hair. So when I finally release my Pixal design, you'll see that while they both have ponytails, I gave them different cut and styled ones. Should be neat!
Zane: Zane was the first one of the Ninjas I redesigned! I love how he turned out. I tried to give him a splintered ice effect on his outfit inspired by his Core minifigure and gave him his faithful falcon companion. Falcon has his old greyish purple feathers, but blue icy eyes to match his owner. I also wanted to give Zane flowing sleeves, that would look very majestic waving about in a blizzard wind. He is also incredibly tall. Taller than Cole even! I was inspired by the giant humanoid robots I'd seen in movies. In his cloaking disguise, I imagine him looking German. With blond hair, blue eyes, and light skin. I also like to think Dr Julian was German. (Was this influenced by my German ancestry? Who knows?)
Cole: You would not believe how many times I had to redraw this man's face. Haha! I just could find that sweet spot! That face that perfectly encapsulated his strong, but gentle personality. But I think I did it! His outfit is based on his Oni Trilogy Gi, with orange detailing. And he has his Island ponytail and bandana. I absolutely loved that hair style on him. So I had to use it! And if you'll notice, he has a beautiful tattoo on his right arm, with his symbol in the center. I imagine him being half Maori, from his mother's side. And the tattoo was inspired by Maori tattoos I saw pictures of. I'm not too sure how accurate those images were. But hopefully I hit the mark.
Lloyd: Finally! Our green Ninja Lloyd! His outfit was inspired by two things. Dragons, and his outfit from the Secrets of Forbidden Spinjitsu seasons. I gave him a beautiful golden dragon and cloud pattern on his clothes, a leather arm guard, and shoulder pads. If you look closer, you'll also see he has cat-like dragon eyes which pays homage to his dragon and Oni heritage. I like to think that depending on his emotions, his eyes will go from slits, to big and wide. So they are good indicators for his mood. I also imagine him being Japanese. But his powers give him his classic blond hair and green eyes. I'm very happy with this design. His hair, eyes, and face all look exactly how I see him in my head.
Well, that's all. I hope you enjoyed these designs and notes! I assure you, you will see more of the them.
Bye! - ✒️🐉

still waiting for the brown sisters trilogy by talia hibbert to get a movie or (preferably) series adaptation. so many books being adapted into film and none are by popular Black authors, especially the romance books that are the easiest to adapt without the pressure of turning them into a big franchise. there is a severe lack of adult romcoms for Black women but a huge market for it, it's so frustrating

The Afton kids adoption theory is very dumb. Here’s why.
I never understood the logic behind thinking that William adopted Michael, Elizabeth and the Crying Child for experimenting on them.
Like what makes people think that he took the time of his day to file adoption papers, buy scholarly books, toys, essentials like toothbrushes and clothes and extra food to feed them if the man absolutely despises kids????
People are trying to justify him having kids without putting Mrs. Afton in the picture and that is a load of crap. Just because that woman isn’t around and her name hasn’t been revealed to us, doesn’t mean William adopted three random kids to experiment on them. If he really wanted to experiment on kids without having to go through all the paperwork and human growth process, he would have simply kidnapped three children and kept them in his office. That’s it.
Like, think about it for a second.
The idea of William adopting kids is such a far-fetched theory that it makes William look completely out of character. If he adopted Michael to experiment on him, why would he willingly let him have friends (aka C.C’s bullies) and go outside?
Tumblr media
If he adopted Elizabeth to experiment on her, why would he not let her get close to Baby but let other kids get closer?
Tumblr media
If he adopted C.C to experiment on him, why would he warn him through the golden Freddy plushie to be wary of his surroundings and promise him that he’ll put him back together?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the idea of the Afton children being humanoid robots (like the Charlie from the Silver Eyes book trilogy) doesn’t make any sense either since we see C.C’s head almost getting crushed to death by Fredbear (before he eventually dies from it), Elizabeth’s whole body getting squashed inside of Baby’s and Michael’s organs and insides getting scooped by Ennard.
Tumblr media
But let’s say the Afton children weren’t robots or weren’t being adopted by William to get tested on and used. Let’s say, that William genuinely wanted kids but wasn’t able to get into a relationship with anyone due to him being off-putting (no joke he was described as being a very odd man in the books). If that was true, then how could it have been possible for Michael to have said that the Funtimes mistook him for William if he was only his adoptive son? The Funtimes didn’t know who Michael was at first but once they took a good look at him, they genuinely thought he was his father. If he got adopted by him, then that line of his would have never existed. Since Sister Location confirmed to us that Michael was biologically related to William, that detail also helps us to confirm that C.C is also related to William due to Micheal and C.C having some physical similarities like their iconic brown hair and their skin colour (grown-up Michael’s skin becomes more similar to C.C’s). As for Elizabeth, she has the same accent as her father and oldest brother which confirms that she got her looks from her mother (their accents are very important for this part since they all live in Hurricane Utah so the chances of finding other british accents in the 1980s in that area is very improbable).
The adoption theory is literally one of the worst fnaf theories I have ever heard in the entire community. And that is saying a lot if you’ve been a fan since 2014.
The man simply got married, divorced his wife after the bite of 83 and got to keep his remaining kids due to having won the lawsuit against his wife. (Proof of the lawsuit scene was in the Security Breach retro CDs if you don’t remember) .
It’s as easy as that. William never adopted for experimentations. If he did, his energy and time being wasted on three experiments wouldn’t have made sense if all he wanted from them was remnant. William also never adopted for the faint of heart since his children got his and his wife’s looks. And finally, William never built his children because their deaths proved they were actual humans.
There were no indications, proof or evidence in the games and books that suggested the Afton children were adopted by William. If anything, there were much more to say about the children being biologically related to him rather than the opposite. This theory had way too many plot holes and more questions than answers that it might as well just turn itself into a headcanon for the fans to enjoy.

Portraying Black Female Characters in Sandman Fic
A fanfic may not have the same reach as a published book, but being aware of how we’re portraying the many Black women of the Sandman in our fics and our posts is still imperative. As I am nonblack, the only piece of advice I can offer is this: pay attention to how Black women write about themselves. Read books by and about Black women. Listen to music by Black women and consider their lyrics. Educate yourself on damaging stereotypes Black women face in order to avoid reinforcing them in your writing. Just…see how creators portray people who share their own identities. That’s vital. Absolutely essential, even.
Below the cut I have included a few personal recommendations if you’re interested.

A gorgeously written, emotionally expansive novel beginning with vignettes about two sisters who never met: in 18th century Ghana, one sister marries a white British officer, and the other is sold into slavery and trafficked to the United States. The book then follows the descendents of these sisters through eight generations. We only spend a single chapter with each character, but Gyasi is so, SO gifted at making you care about them as people in the limited time we spend with them.
(She also wrote an article in 2020 that is well worth a read, and raises points that are important to keep in mind as we seek out more diverse media.)
The Brown Sisters Trilogy by Talia Hibbert. These three books are romances (each book is about one of the titular sisters), and they’re fun and flirty with interesting, distinct characters. I was trying to think of a favorite one, but I couldn’t! They’re all enjoyable in different ways.
Music
“Deathless,” “River,” “Creature (Perfect),” “Vale,” and “Juice of Mandarins” by Ibeyi
“Black Woman” by Danielle Brooks
“Protect Your Queen” by Sampa the Great
“She’s Got Her Ticket” by Tracy Chapman
The entirety of Lemonade by Beyoncé + “Brown Skin Girl” and “I Was Here”
Additionally, here are some links to posts or articles that address the “Strong Black Woman” trope. I see undertones or overt representations of this with Lucienne often in this fandom, and I think it’s a stereotype we need to be especially aware of.
