Earthseed verses
"All that you touch, You Change. All that you Change Changes you. The only lasting truth is Change."
This verse would remind the Earthseed community of the interconnection of all life and the significance of responsible management. Members would actively engage in environmentally friendly techniques such as regenerative agriculture, renewable energy generation, and trash reduction. They would recognize that their actions have effects and work to create good changes in their surroundings.
"God is Power--infinite, irresistible, inexorable, indifferent. And yet, God is Pliable--Trickster, Teacher, Chaos, Clay."
The verse stresses power's duality and the importance of adaptation and resilience. Leadership in the Earthseed community would be decentralized, with a collaborative decision-making approach. Emerson (2023) supports that this ensures that authority is divided among community members, giving everyone a say in creating their destiny. The community values diversity and actively fights to destroy oppressive systems while advocating for social justice and equality.
Where to Create the Earth Seed Community to Be Safe
Earthseed will be established in a distant and self-sufficient place with abundant natural resources, fertile land, and safety from external dangers. This might be a remote region surrounded by mountains or a seaside location teeming with fish and plant life. The precise location would be chosen based on environmental appropriateness and the capacity to build a sustainable infrastructure.
Who can Join the Community?
Individuals that share Earthseed's vision and values are welcome to join the Earthseed community. There are no restrictions on membership based on ethnicity, religion, or financial background. Anyone interested in contributing to the community, adhering to its ideals, and actively participating in its growth are invited to join.
Leadership Model
The Earthseed community's leadership approach will be based on consensus and communal decision-making. Every member will have an equal say in decision-making, and significant decisions will be determined via open debate and deliberation. Leadership positions shall be cycled regularly to guarantee a fair distribution of power and to avoid the consolidation of authority.
Future Technology
Vertical agricultural systems. Vertical farming includes growing plants in stacked levels and employing artificial lighting and temperature control technology to achieve ideal growth conditions. This technique allows for year-round food production in controlled conditions, decreasing the demand for enormous land expanses and the environmental effect of agriculture. Vertical farming would increase food security and offer a sustainable source of fresh vegetables for the Earthseed community.
Survival of Earthseed Community
The community will prioritize self-sufficiency by growing food using sustainable agricultural techniques, gathering rainwater, producing renewable energy, and establishing waste management systems. This resilience will lessen the community's reliance on external resources and increase its ability to endure disturbances.
Steps to Build a Better Future
Education will be prioritized for all community members, including children, adults, and older people. The Earthseed community will provide individuals with the information and skills required to contribute effectively to society and follow their passions by offering access to quality education. The Earthseed community will work actively to develop sustainable infrastructure and promote conservation practices. This will involve the construction of energy-efficient structures, the installation of renewable energy systems, the preservation of local ecosystems, and the rule of responsible water management. The neighborhood will try to reduce its environmental impact while acting as an example of sustainable living.

How does Social Media Impact Reality TV Shows?
Tumblr media
The introduction of reality TV has reshaped our world in this new emerging world. With the rise of social media, consumers have the great abilities to participate in this emerging culture compare to others. Participation TV communities has never like before, reality tv show fans are more than just viewers – they are producers of a participatory culture experience (Jenkins 2006).
For today’s topic, I am going to discuss one of my favorite reality TV shows called “Bling Empire” which is available on Netflix. This reality show is an American reality television series that focuses on the lives of wealthy, materialistic East and Southeast Asian Americans, socialites that based in Los Angeles, a real-life Crazy Rich Asians. Since the first released on Netflix 2021, “Bling Empire” has become an Asian American all-time favorite. As such, social media such as Instagram and Twitter were flooded with post discussions and interesting short reels about the content in “Bling Empire.”
I first notice this reality TV through Instagram reels that caught my interest and attention. Without denial, social media gives a major impact on the entertainment, especially on reality TV. The sharing of reels, memes and stickers are used as significant metrics of engagement with audience. Viewers can boost niche interests to relevance, prevent a streaming service from dropping a heavily syndicated show. Viewers on social media can recap highlights or summary through social media platforms which amplifies reach, to create a wider impact and potentially attracts new viewers to the shows.
Apart from that, reality TV casts often gain a significant following on social media during and after their appearances on the shows. They can gain more followers, especially contestant that sparks chaos and extremely famous TV show. Audiences have come to enjoy the crass dialogue and dramatic behavior from reactionary, caricature-like castmates. For instances, one of the cast Kim have reviewed that she felt grateful and excited that filled with loaded messages on Instagram, express their excitement towards Kim (Sun 2022).
With the influence of social media, users can engage in real-time conversation and share their favorite moments in the show, that delivers positive and negative feedbacks to the producer. Therefore, competition for audiences could be competitive where arguably pushed televisions producers to seek new innovative ways to keep their audience engaged. For instances, ‘Bling Empire” season 2 is even more exciting than season 1 where it returned with all the drama, gossip, catfights, and familial friendship that viewers have grown to love. The cast inside “Bling Empire” knows their game, where gossip is almost a form of currency on the show.
In my opinion, “Bling Empire eventually portrays the Asian’s culture. In most Asian families, gossips could spark easily even though with strong relationship bond which makes the reason that audience find this show so alluring. Audience can connect and feel as the show cast members, as part of their family, whispering and gossiping along with them.
To conclude, these developments have coincided with the rise of social media over the last 15 years, resulting in increased individual power and agency due to various social media platforms' communicative and connective capacities. Individuals' ability to connect online more quickly and instantly has engendered a sense of collective power, especially when these individuals can identify and group together around a shared interest, such as the fandom of a television show.

‘Parentese’ Is Truly a Lingua Franca, Global Study Finds (NYT) Regardless of whether it helps to know it, researchers recently determined that sing-songy baby talk—more technically known as “parentese”—seems to be nearly universal to humans around the world. In the most wide-ranging study of its kind, more than 40 scientists helped to gather and analyze 1,615 voice recordings from 410 parents on six continents, in 18 languages from diverse communities: rural and urban, isolated and cosmopolitan, internet savvy and off the grid, from hunter gatherers in Tanzania to urban dwellers in Beijing. The results, published recently in the journal Nature Human Behavior, showed that in every one of these cultures, the way parents spoke and sang to their infants differed from the way they communicated with adults—and that those differences were profoundly similar from group to group. When people tend to produce lullabies or tend to talk to their infants, they tend to do so in the same way.
Historic flooding strands St. Louis residents in their cars and homes (Washington Post) Torrential downpours sparked flash flooding in St. Louis and surrounding areas on Tuesday, stranding residents in their cars and homes as the amount of rain shattered a record set more than a century ago. The city had received more than 8.5 inches of rain as of 10 a.m. local time, the most ever recorded there in a calendar day and more than an inch over the record of 6.85 inches set in August 1915, when remnants of the hurricane in Galveston, Tex., passed through the area. Emergency workers were responding to numerous reports of drivers whose cars were submerged in the flooding. Videos shared on social media showed many roads completely inaccessible.
Deadly shootings in Whistler and Langley rock British Columbia (Washington Post) The slaying of two people in a brazen daylight shooting on Sunday rocked the Canadian resort town of Whistler, British Columbia—only to be followed less than 24 hours later by police alerts that there had been “multiple shooting scenes” in nearby Langley, on the U.S. border with Washington state. Police said that the shooting in Whistler was gang-related, while the victims in the attack in Langley were homeless, local police told Canada’s CBC. Police later confirmed that three people had died in the incident, including the suspect, and that two others were seriously injured. The shootings were a shock in an area not used to the levels of gun violence found below its southern border.
Strikes to snarl travel even more (Bloomberg) Deutsche Lufthansa will cancel almost all flights from its main German hubs in Frankfurt and Munich Wednesday because of a strike by ground crew, exacerbating the chaos that’s snarled Europe’s crucial summer travel season. Waiting lines snaking out of terminals, mountains of stranded luggage and hastily canceled flights have become the scourge of European aviation this summer. In a further disruption for travelers, much of the UK’s train network is set to be shut down on Wednesday by a railway worker strike.
Russia’s Gazprom to slash gas to Germany, as Putin fosters uncertainty in Europe (Washington Post) Russian energy giant Gazprom on Monday said it would halve the natural gas flowing through its main pipeline to Germany, keeping European countries in a state of uncertainty as they scramble to build up energy supplies for winter. Starting Wednesday, the daily gas flow through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline—the biggest between Russia and Western Europe—will be set at 33 million cubic meters, Gazprom said. That amounts to about 20 percent of capacity, down from 40 percent. Gazprom cited problems with a turbine. German officials have accused Russia of using repairs as a pretext to squeeze Europe, causing prices to soar and giving President Vladimir Putin leverage against Western countries backing Ukraine in the war. Germany is still dependent on Russia for around a third of its supplies and has been racing to fill up its gas storage facilities before gas is needed to heat homes this winter. This week’s further reduction will hamper German plans to have storage capacity 75 percent full by September and 95 percent by November. Germany has begun to cut consumption wherever it can. Some landlords are already rationing hot water, which has been turned off in many public buildings, while lights have been dimmed and public fountains lie still.
As Prices Soar in Ukraine, War Adds Economic Havoc to the Human Toll (NYT) At his compact stall in Lviv’s main outdoor food market, Ihor Korpii arranged jars of blueberries that he and his wife had picked from a nearby forest into an attractive display. Fragrant dill and fresh peas harvested from their garden lay in neat piles on a table. But “War has driven up the cost of almost everything, and people are buying much, much less,” Mr. Korpii said, pointing with weather-beaten hands to a heap of unsold carrots. “Everyone, including us, is tightening their belts,” he added. “They’re trying to save money because they don’t know what the future will bring.” Since Russia invaded Ukraine, food, energy and commodity prices have climbed around the world, worsening global inflation and inflicting financial hardship on millions of vulnerable people. Few countries are feeling the bite as much as Ukraine itself, where Russia’s deadly campaign of attrition is piling economic havoc atop a devastating humanitarian toll. Prices here have jumped more than 21 percent from a year ago, as Russian attacks on critical infrastructure and Russian occupation of major industrial and agriculture-producing regions in the southeast sow chaos in supply chains. Fuel prices are up 90 percent from a year ago, while food costs have surged over 35 percent.
Eyeing a City Captured by Russia, Ukraine Prepares an Ambitious Counterattack (NYT) The road to Russian-occupied Kherson in southern Ukraine passes through a no man’s land of charred wheat fields and cratered villages. The tails of rockets stick out of asphalt and the boom of incoming and outgoing artillery ricochets off tidy, abandoned homes. Along a jagged frontline, Ukrainian forces are preparing for what is one of the most ambitious and significant military actions of the war: retaking Kherson. The first city to fall to Russian forces, Kherson and the fertile lands that surround it are a key Russian beachhead, from which its military continuously launches attacks across a broad swath of Ukrainian territory. Regaining control could also help restore momentum to Ukraine, and give its troops a much-needed morale boost after months of vicious fighting. Already, fighting on the western and northern borders of the region is intensifying, as Ukrainian forces—currently about 30 miles from the city at their closest point—lay the groundwork for a large offensive push. For a month, Ukrainian artillery and rocket forces have been softening up Russian positions, using an array of new, Western-supplied weapons like the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, provided by the United States.
Russia to drop out of International Space Station after 2024 (AP) Russia will pull out of the International Space Station after 2024 and focus on building its own orbiting outpost, the country’s new space chief said Tuesday amid high tensions between Moscow and the West over the fighting in Ukraine. The announcement, while not unexpected, throws into question the future of the 24-year-old space station, with experts saying it would be extremely difficult—a “nightmare,” by one reckoning—to keep it running without the Russians. NASA and its partners had hoped to continue operating it until 2030. Russian space officials have long talked about their desire to launch the country’s own space station and have complained that the wear and tear on the aging International Space Station is compromising safety and could make it difficult to extend its lifespan.
Where China Is Changing Its Diplomatic Ways (at Least a Little) (NYT) Whirlwind visits to crisis-riven nations in Africa. A sleek training center for the continent’s up-and-coming politicians. The prospect of major debt forgiveness for a favorite African country. As relations with the United States and Europe plummet, China is starting a new wave of diplomacy in Africa, where it dominates trade with resource-rich nations and keeps friendly ties with mostly authoritarian leaders, unfettered by competition from the West. China’s campaign to cultivate African allegiances is part of a great geopolitical competition, which has intensified since the start of the war in Ukraine. Already fiercely vying for loyalties in Asia, Beijing and Washington are now jockeying broadly for influence, with the United States, Europe and their democratic allies positioned against China, Russia, Iran and other autocracies. Heightening the competition, Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey V. Lavrov, began a tour of Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo Sunday. In Africa, China is adjusting its approach, more closely integrating financial and diplomatic efforts. It’s a recognition that just building new expressways, hydropower dams and skyscrapers—as China has tried to do with the Belt and Road Initiative—isn’t sufficient to secure relations.
China and the rising cost of COVID discrimination (Worldcrunch) On July 9, the story of Afen, a young girl living in the restrooms of Shanghai Hongqiao train station, spread rapidly on Chinese social media. The girl was reported to be jobless and homeless because she had once contracted COVID. In post-lockdown Shanghai, many recruiters refused to give jobs to those who had been infected or who had worked in hospitals. Such demands in Shanghai’s labor market were not just seen in companies and firms but also in manual part-time jobs. And even shelters might not host people who had tested positive for the virus. In Shanghai alone, thousands of workers like Afen were left with no choice but to live on the streets and struggle for their survival. Discrimination against COVID-positive people has been part of the ongoing pandemic in China, visibly or invisibly. Apart from becoming "unemployable," individuals who have recovered from COVID could be barred from public places. Discrimination could also come from neighbors and acquaintances. During mass lockdowns, like the one that took place in Shanghai a few months ago, a whole living unit would go through tough restrictions if there was one positive case. So the "positive" person could be seen as "guilty," taking on tremendous blame and stress.
Zimbabwe goes for the gold—coin, that is—to fight high inflation (Washington Post) With inflation soaring in Zimbabwe and the country’s currency in free fall as people abandon it for the U.S. dollar, the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa is fighting back with a novel strategy: gold coins. Starting Monday, Zimbabwe is selling one-ounce, 22-carat gold coins bearing an image of Victoria Falls, its world-famous natural wonder. Each has a serial number, comes with a certificate and will be sold at a price “based on the prevailing international price of gold and the cost of production,” the central bank said in its announcement on July 4. The coins will be tradable both in Zimbabwe and overseas, the bank said, and can be exchanged for cash. The goal is to reduce the quantity of Zimbabwe dollars in circulation to eventually restore that currency’s value. While gold is traditionally the ideal hedge against inflation and general economic uncertainty, no country has previously tried to tackle a weakening currency by selling gold coins. And with gold trading at $1,710 per troy ounce late last week, institutional investors may be the coins’ principal buyers. “No ordinary person will be able to afford it,” said Prosper Chitambara, a senior researcher at the Labor and Economic Development Research Institute of Zimbabwe. “Right now, Zimbabweans are living hand-to-mouth.”

9 out of 10 Americans take in too much sodium, in response to the American Coronary heart Affiliation (AHA). It makes the gist of her complaint much easier to know. I made a video about this previous heater simply over a 12 months ago. The media described them merely as 'youths', however pictures and video footage showed very clearly that they had been all of one race. As a final pointer in the direction of the gravity of Ms. Powell's case, observe that with only a few exceptions, the mainstream media is completely ignoring her complaints. In this case, many of the travels are those that consume specific items and providers. It might yet be dismissed, or held to be insufficient: however at first glance it appears sturdy enough, and detailed sufficient, that it is prone to be upheld, if not in the original case, then on appeal. 1. The Captain rubbed her face, bleary eyes attempting to adjust enough to the harsh reality of morning enough to locate her private quarters stash of teabags. Her damn alarm hadn’t gone off on time, and too much sleep made waking up harder. In this state, she had trouble even figuring out where her teaspoons were. As she staggered to the tea engine, addled brain attempting to comprehend such intricacies as left and right, she found herself interrupted by the surprise feeling of a mug being forcibly inserted into her hand. “Good morning, Captain Velacruz!” Her gaze managed to focus on the shape of the strange beaming girl, currently pouring a second cup of tea. “Current time is 0800 hours. The Alice is, in accordance with your flight plan, still navigating to plane BF2500 - ‘Lagoona Horrifica’. Breakfast wrapped up 5 minutes ago, most of the ship is currently watching mister Varrik’s ventriloquism show, and a maintenance request has been put in to Lorenzo to have the sand in your alarm glass re-enchanted.” The Captain stared at her visitor, head quickly losing all of its fog as her danger sense clicked on. A glance down at the mug didn’t reveal anything odd, and a dip of her pinky’s nail didn’t show any chemical reaction. Tentatively, she took a sip. “That’s… excellent.” She paused. “Who are you?” The intruder giggled, producing, with a flick of her kandy-dripping wrist, a business card. “Glitter Brando.” The captain squinted, having to look through several layers of sparkly foil to read the actual text. “‘Party girl’.” “That’s me!” “This card is very nice.” “It’s laminated~!” “And… animated.” “.Gif printing is the greatest technomagical advancement of our time.” “What exactly does your profession entail? I think we’ve got a few too many pleasure seekers around already, so I don’t know what a professional can add.” “Oh, no, I’m more on the organizational side of things!” “Oh?” “I can have a venue booked in 2 hours, promotion for the event distributed in 6, and entertainment booked in ten minutes.” “Oh.” A shiver went down the captain’s spine as she recalled faint memories of similar people. Person-shaped blurs that became visible only long enough to dispense paperwork and pleasantries carried away by the doppler effect.
“So… you’re on my ship because?” “A ship at this capacity needs organization for even basic social events. Without someone keeping track of all the disparate personalities, it’s doomed to descend into chaos. For instance, the kitchen’s auto-chef broke down last night when Vix goaded it to combat, and it had to be shot out of the airlock in order to prevent it from killing everyone on the ship.” “What!?” “Soooo, I’ve taken the liberty of organizing a chart that sorts all current passengers and staff into cooperative cooking teams who make ship-size meals on a rotating schedule. This both builds community and saves on the cost of buying a new auto-chef.” “Wow.” The captains gaze steeled for a moment as the information fully sank in. “How much does my business ledger now say I'm paying you?” The pinkette let out a laugh, of the sort that can only be achieved when someone else has realized they are in grave danger.

Neptune in aspect with Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto and Chiron
(Read my other posts 1: Neptune aspecting Sun & Moon, 2: Neptune aspecting Mercury & Venus, 3: Neptune aspecting Mars)
It is always difficult to interpret aspects of generational planets to other generational planets because they are such big forces and encompasses such broad complexity that it would take a genius to accurately convey their impact through the Mercurial function; verbal and written communication. The social and collective planets are describing the bigger picture of what is going on a societal and global scale – but they do matter in the personal natal chart because they indicate the overall collective climate that one was born into and will inevitably color the personal life experience. When I refer to “collective tendencies” in describing these aspects I’m therefore also referring to “personal tendencies”.
Neptune in aspect with Jupiter
With the harmonious aspects this would translate into a time of deep collective faith and belief in the transience of the world as well as a faith in the ability to be redeemed through the correct attitude and positive expectations. This is a typical aspect of “follow your heart and your dreams” which is often considered extremely naïve by more “realistic” people. With this aspect forming at a point in time, there’s a greater collective tendency to take chances and put one’s luck in the hands of the universe. This aspect lends itself to big dreams and visions, a freedom to pursue spirituality and let go of inhibitions, to pursue freedom with complete abandon of boundaries, to enjoy culture and contribute to it in order to feel closer to the divine. In case of the hard aspects, belief systems may be dissolving and reconstructed, the future might seem obscure; the erosion of culture and lost sense purpose might cause people to pursue religion or spiritual doctrine more vigorously than ever. People could attempt to escape from it all through distraction and dissociation, to cling to illusions in order to cope, or take to drugs in order to numb the sense of meaninglessness and desperation that permeates the social-societal fabric. The hard aspects could indicate disillusionment and disappointment in religious doctrine, an abandonment of belief and collective spirit. People could feel betrayed and deceived by thought leaders and visionaries leading them astray instead of enriching their lives. In any case, these two planets together combine the yearning for something sacred and transcendent with the symbolic expressions of meaning in culture and social life.
Neptune in aspect with Saturn
With the harmonious aspects this combination of planets, the collective might try to create a system of protection for the less fortunate, to provide a container for the unformed and passive souls that are helpless in the face of existence. It might also lend itself to collective fantasies of the ideal state with an ideal structure. Hard work and duty might be glorified and seen as the height of goodness. There could even be a great sense of bliss in restricting and depriving in order to chip away at a distant goal. It could also mean that there’s romanticizing and mythologizing of authority, a deep need to idealize paternal figureheads and put faith in tradition. This aspect forming at a specific point in time could generate a tendency to expect to be taken care of by society, for the powers that be to provide and coddle its citizens. There could be an expectancy to be redeemed through putting noses to the grindstone and get rewarded in this (or the next) life for doing the right thing, for believing in the system. With the harmonious aspects this might not be such a disastrous preconception to live by but with the harder aspect it becomes another story. With the hard aspects, Neptune-Saturn might express ad deep guilt and regret in not pursuing worldly goals or becoming successful – there could likewise be a sadness of not being receptive enough to have dreams and longings because of too much realism. There might be great defensiveness collectively against chaos as to make people paranoid to not loose control. Counter to what is desired; this fear might cause more disorder and a collapse of defense systems through the very effort of keeping them intact. Saturn has to do with boundaries and Neptune has to do with dissolution, which might indicate collective experiences of trying to keep things in but being unable to. Avoiding the “swamp” whatever form it comes in, would be the dilemma of these people’s lives and for the greater collective at this specific point in time. Escaping responsibility causes guilt and disorder and taking responsibility will cause guilt and disorder, whether it’s mental or physical or both. There’s dysfunction present at both ends. There would possibly be an undermining of authority taking place and simultaneously a stronger defensiveness around authority in order to not fall prey to the temptation of chaos.
Neptune in aspect with Uranus
With the harmonious aspects, this set of planets will combine themselves to create a common experience of looking to the future for redemption. That which is new is idealized and welcomed with open arms – change might seem like an appealing concept. Dreams of a utopian society where every individual is accepted and harmoniously coexisting without the necessity of rigid rules and structure might be prevalent. Faith in humanity and its capacity for genius to solve all its problems might come with this planetary contact. In fact, Neptune is sextile Uranus at this point in time, pointing to a longing for change and the opportunity to create something new that saves humanity from the “dark” past and elevates it to new heights of spiritual and scientific excellence. This is a highly idealistic combo that can produce genius solutions that are in line with the yearnings of the collective. The hard aspects can create tremendous despair and incapacity to pursue progress, without feeling like there’s an abandonment of the potential for redemption. These are the aspects that will sabotage any new endeavor and model in favor of remaining in a state of nebulous undifferentiated potential. New discoveries and insights made during the time of the hard aspects might produce great hurt and disillusionment in the collective. The new discoveries will seem to threaten that which is perceived as pure and sacred, the romantic ideals of humanity will be crushed in favor of breaking free from the limits of the status quo. The collective might polarize into people who want to jump on the band wagon of more advanced thought and the people who can’t abandon the “way things are” because of sentimentality and feeling ties. Either way, with the hard aspects there will be a conflict of the glamorous, timeless and bittersweet and the push to break out of the confines of old society. Neptune often symbolizes the urge to regress or transcend to reach a state of unity; Uranus symbolizes radical rebellion and revolution. With the hard aspects, there’s no way to have both. Uranus is too aggressive and might push people into emotional chaos, Neptune is too receptive and might consume and confuse people as to what is really going on in terms of thought advancement to ever come outside of their current mental framework.

Neptune in aspect with Pluto
With the harmonious aspects, the Neptune-Pluto dynamic expresses itself through experience of unity through crisis. This might sound scary, but Pluto is after all representative of destruction and rebirth. With this aspect the collective longing for redemption stimulates the impulse to protect something that is necessary for survival. At this point in time Neptune is sextile Pluto, which makes sense considering the state of the world we’re in at the moment. There’s a sense of a need for survival in order to be able to guarantee a blissful destiny of humanity. The collective feeling tone is certainly categorized by fear and paranoia at this time, but also of greater oneness because the whole world is going through this pandemic. With the Neptune-Pluto sextile there’s a need for drastic measures in order to survive the pressure that is felt. The way to Eden is through the darkness. Pluto is in Capricorn, which suggests the desire to protect and control the structure of society at all costs – hard work and endurance is necessary for survival on a collective level. To ensure integrity of the building blocks of society becomes more important than anything else.
With the hard aspects between these planets, the picture becomes less appealing. The urge to merge and retreat into the world of pre/post existence to find healing and peace inevitably causes chaos and violent destruction. The collective would find that the fear and pressure that is experienced is too much to handle. Taking control and exercising power destroys all the hope of beauty and love in the world. This aspect could indicate a time of heart-breaking vulnerability and a lot of fear and need to escape into a dream of how things could be. People born around the years of 1814-1822 seem to have Neptune square Pluto in their charts if you look it up on astrotheme.com. These people would’ve been born into a collective climate of hopelessness and despair to some extent, of power wielded over the weak. There would’ve been a necessity to surrender to the threat of death, to accept the unacceptable and either give up power or use it at the expense of sensitivity and compassion. Karl Marx is a good example of an individual with the square aspect because it falls across two angular houses, Pluto in the 1st  house of self and Neptune in the 10thhouse of public image. The conflict between Neptune-Pluto is consequently evident in his persona. Publicly he’s known for his ideas about how the ideal society should be run (Neptune conjunct Uranus in the 10th). He argued that class tension and antagonism that developed under capitalism was unsustainable – the ruling classes controlling the means of production and the working class offering their labor in exchange for wages would not work in the long run in his opinion. The working class would eventually develop class-consciousness and conquer political power to establish a classless communist society. In this case, Neptune symbolizes the working class and Pluto the ruling class - in Marx’s experience these were at odds with each other (as reflected in his chart). His opinions certainly came from his inner personal tension of needing to identify as powerful (Pluto 1st house) and to offer a recipe of redemption as a part of his life’s work (Neptune in the 10th). I’m sure he felt powerful in himself, yet despairingly at loss when having to contribute to society. Undoubtedly, he felt like he had to give up his power to serve at the feet of the ruling class, to “give himself up”, like Neptune often nudges us to.
Neptune in aspect with Chiron
The harmonious aspects would translate into a peak experience through suffering, a sense of being touched by the sublime through the unintended infliction of pain, whether it’s physical or psychological. Redemption is inextricably linked with the misfortunes and wounding that can’t be cured with current scientific method. Suffering is somehow a vehicle for finding a sense of unity with the remainder of life, it makes for a transcendent experiences that allows for ecstatic bliss in conjunction with permanent damage and disability. At the point in time of the aspect’s formation there might be an unusual acceptance and romanticizing of disability, even to the point of elevating it to something divine and sacred. Knowledge and methods of healing are pursued as a means of redemption, a means of returning to Eden. Technique and skill to remedy the wounds of the collective are sought with a deeper emotional hunger. Compassion and unconditional love might be seen as the key component to healing. Artistry, creativity, music, drug use, alcohol, meditation, hypnosis and emotional surrender might be sought in the name of healing. There could be an effort to collectively spread as much knowledge and insight as possible in order to cure a little bit of the ignorance that causes so much trouble in society. Living with a permanent wound unites people, it connects the souls of the world in mutual longing to go “home”, to return to oneness. The wound stimulates a longing for fusion, which might express itself through a deep understanding of people’s suffering. Princess Diana is a perfect example of someone with the trine; she saw the universality of suffering and wasn’t hesitant to shower “love” on people with severe sickness or disability. She saw herself in people’s pain.
The hard aspects are more gruesome, as always. Personal wounds conflict with the need for fusion and a sense of oneness with existence. At the specific point in time of this aspect there might’ve been feelings in the collective of being fundamentally flawed and damaged to ever be redeemed and brought into the light of the eternal. There would’ve been great struggle to save people from irretrievable damage, yet the longing itself could cause more damage and additional feelings of insufficiency. There could’ve been a tendency to cover up the wound, numb it out and avoid looking at it in order to have a chance at something beautiful, pure and elevated. However, the escape and dissociation from it would only make it worse. The resistance to hope would potentially make the healing journey difficult. Great sympathy could be present yet it would be frequently cancelled out by stone cold realism. Chiron is the wounded healer archetype. He uses the mind and his practical skills to cope. When he’s in hard aspect with Neptune there’s going to be tension in the face of the possibility of redemption. It might only be an illusion after all, and the dark abyss of disillusionment is nothing to gamble with– consequently people would stick to the difficult but nonetheless, real, experience of pain in front of them. However when the pain of life becomes too much and one succumbs to the sweet escape through drugs, alcohol, food, tv, spiritual practices or any other method, it might backfire terribly and cause total disintegration and victimization. A good example of someone with the square is Oprah Winfrey with Chiron in the 1sthouse and Neptune in the 10th house. She’s widely known as a person of great compassion and insight – on a public level she embodies the role of the redeemer to some extent. Her identity however is that of someone who’s been wounded yet has come to terms with the burden and has learnt to live with it. She’s generally perceived to be very wise, similar to Chiron in myth. However, in her need to heal people she makes it into a show and molds the narrative to her liking or preference sometimes. She’s deeply compassionate, yet she can also expect people to live with the permanent burden of certain pains. Her Neptune draws the public in – promises redemption, but in person, she expects people to be realistic and strip their issues down without glamorizing or mythologizing.

“Green New Deal” daydreams fail to draw the whole thing together between private property, wage labor, capital, value, exchange, competition, etc. — that is, give insufficient weight to such premises accounting for how all of this related to the nature of capitalism, commodity production, and the money system connects to planetary destruction. Replacing wish fulfillment with purposeful thought geared toward revolutionary action, one must consider how the forces of production as organized by capitalist economy (i.e. the capitalist quest for ever-increasing accumulation of surplus value) promotes ecological devastation. The characteristic of more developed market economies is that production is commodity production for (maximum) exchange value; not social production to keep the human organism or environment alive. Severing free productive capacity from the possessors of labor power, its continuation of manic levels of production is moving towards the annihilation of all earth’s species.
In our highly industrialized capitalist civilization, the more we work, the more we produce, the more we will be able to purchase, to buy, to have, to enjoy; the more products they sell, the more capital they realize — capitalist production can therefore have no limits (or can only have limits which are permitted within and do not seriously detract from the context of capital accumulation..!) Market competition and other commercial functions invariably promote a tendency towards “overproduction” and increased “output”. Under the way of capitalism, production will always engender this bias. Because it always favors expanding output, it will continue to be, for this reason and to this extent, a destructive economy.
Environmental sustainability is exactly the type of human need which could be satisfied by rational social control — socialization — over the productive process; in the sense that productive forces could be used in accordance with a conscious plan towards satisfying these sorts of needs in an economic system that is not capitalist. Without lacking this degree of consciousness and with an entirely different purpose of production, the socialist mode of production is characterized by order and control rather than anarchy and chaos. Once society gains control of the means of production, communal production holds new implications.

The awesome destructive power of a billionaire
Tumblr media
"Every billionaire is a policy failure": it's a controversial aphorism, but there's an undeniable truth to it.
There's no justifiable rationale for a person to be worth billions: is Jeff Bezos's social value really 14,285,714 times that of his median factory worker?
But moreover, billions of dollars are a force multiplier that magnifies the power of the individual without accountability or check. Everybody makes mistakes and there are crooks everywhere in the social fabric, but billionaire crooks are far more harmful than street muggers.
Woody Guthrie wrote, "Some will rob you with a six-gun, and some with a fountain pen," but as great as that line is, it fails to capture just how much harm the fountain-pen bandits can do - the chaos, death and misery their schemes create.
Think of Ihor Kolomoisky, the Ukrainian oligarch whose government has accused of stealing $5.5B from a bank he ran. I first encountered Kolomoisky in the Fincen Leaks, a collection of official warnings that the US Treasury Department chose to ignore.
https://pluralistic.net/2020/09/21/too-big-to-jail/#fincen
Kolomoisky laundered $240m through Deutsche Bank, who started helping him launder that money *less than one month* after issuing a triumphant press-release announcing that it had cleaned house after its last oligarch money-laundering scandal.
But Deutsche Bank's contribution was a relative trifle. As Michael Sallah and colleagues document in Dirty Dollars, a stunning feature in Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Kolomoisky shuffled billions through the US, destroying factories and laying waste to whole towns.
https://newsinteractive.post-gazette.com/ukraine-money-laundering/
Kolomoisky and his confederate Gennadiy Bogolyubov used compromised bank employees in Ukraine to steal billions by issuing phony loans to shell companies in Cyprus (an EU state and notorious financial secrecy haven) and various Caribbean "treasure islands."
That money came onshore with the help of US enablers like Florida "businessman" Mordechai "Motti" Korf (represented by Trump's personal lawyer Marc Kasowitz). Once in the US, it was used to snap up real-estate and factories across the midwest.
These assets included "13 steel factories, five office towers, a hotel, two office parks, and a shuttered Motorola plant with two heliports." These structures included historically significant US buildings, as well as strategic production facilities.
For example, at one point, Kolomoisky controlled the majority of the US's silico manganese production, a key element in steel production. The fact that he didn't abuse this to deliberately destroy the US's ability to produce steel is somewhat incidental.
Because Kolomoisky destroyed plenty of US productive capacity for other reasons - namely, because he bought giant companies like Warren Steel to use them as money-laundering pass-throughs, running them without regard to their workers or their products.
This resulted in a series of ghastly plant disasters in which workers were killed, maimed, injured and traumatized. After the disasters came waves of closures, which saw plants shuttered and communities shattered by layoffs.
But the force-multiplier effect of Kolomoisky's stolen billions continued to wreak havoc: the shutdown of these plants resulted in environmental devastation, such as dumping waste water directly into Ohio's Mahoning River.
Ohio was particularly brutalized by Kolomoisky's money-laundering: after the 2016 shut-down of Warren Steel, the Ohio AG revealed that the company had illegally dumped vast amounts of "baghouse dust," which causes kidney and liver damage.
The FBI is investigating Kolomoisky's onshore crimes, and Ukrainian authorities are targeting him at home (which could be explosive, as he is closely tied to the lavishly corrupt Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, a former TV comedy actor).
These investigations, as well as the work of the Post-Gazette team, as well as the Fincen Leaks, all throw the meaning of "every billionaire is a policy failure" into stark relief.
The men who rob you with a fountain pen destroy lives, towns, the environment, national resilency, even whole nations.

travis, jeane, and henry are shelter children: the abridged nmh3 headcanon for pals who havent killed the past
(and yeah there’s spoilers)
Tumblr media
Who is Kamui?
In The Silver Case, Kamui Uehara is a legendary serial killer in Japan’s 24th Ward; he was arrested for the killings of several political figures in 1979 and suddenly broke out of prison and resumed activity in 1999. He notably had silver eyes. Plot twist: THIS IS A LIE, the 1979 Kamui and 1999 Kamui are different people (ish), and the No More Heroes Kamui is technically not this Kamui, even if he technically... is.
Danni, what the fuck.
Yeah man I know Kill the Past lore is fucked up.
How is this possible?
It’s a government conspiracy!!! The 1979 Kamui, also known as “Format” Kamui, had a personality type (obedient & with a lot of “criminal power” - aka capacity for chaos/destruction) that the Powers That Be determined would be really good for creating numerous controllable government sleeper agents to shift the balance of political power as they saw fit. This personality base was mass produced by imprinting it onto vulnerable young boys in the Shelters (Kamui Maspro) and later young girls (Ayame Maspro).
What’s a Shelter?
Horrible dystopian toddler reeducation bunker where young children were kidnapped, forced to do menial soul sucking tasks in a sterile environment, and reeducated before being subtly planted back into society as sleeper agents. Thousands of kids from the 24th Ward were taken. 1999 Kamui and NMH Kamui were both products of the Shelter. Specifically, NMH Kamui is the “ultimate” Kamui Uehara, having successfully absorbed the memories of previous Kamui consciousnesses to become a quasi-godlike meta-aware and fourth wall breaking being, in conjunction with the mysterious powers of the silver eye he had implanted into his socket, which also grants functional immortality...
DANNI WHAT THE FUCK
YEAH I KNOW BEAR WITH ME.
Isn’t that kind of like the Coburn Elementary stuff in Killer7?
IT SURE IS! Coburn and the development of Emir Parkreiner as a Japanese sleeper agent in American politics is quite close to Kamui/the Shelters. I also headcanon that Coburn is an American iteration of the 24th Ward’s Shelter Project, as, essentially, the government in both Killer7 and TSC are invested in controlling the population via (often violent) social engineering.
So how do Henry, Jeane, and Travis play into this?
As of NMH3, Henry has revealed that he and his siblings fled from their serial killer father and were captured and brainwashed into believing they had separate lives. In this headcanon, I posit that the three of them have been manipulated and influenced to become assassins due to whatever conditioning they received at this event, possibly at another Coburn-like project or facility. I’m undecided on whether the father who raised Travis / abused Jeane is their blood relative and the same as the serial killer or not, as it’s possible Travis and Jeane were returned to him after conditioning.
first of all HENRY HAS A FUCKED UP GREEN THIRD EYE LIKE EMIR. LIKE, LOOK AT IT.
NMH Kamui, in Travis Strikes Again, notes many similarities between himself and Travis: he has similar fourth-walling abilities to the type of being that Kamui has become and, like him, has a large amount of criminal power. On their own this doesn’t necessarily mean anything except travis fourth wall break kill real good, but combined with all the other heavy Kill the Past stuff we’ve seen and Henry’s backstory reveals, it’s not too tough to read into Travis having unknowingly developed into a being on the same level of existence as Kamui: in other words, a self-aware viewpoint for the player.
“Ayamestock” or “Kamuistock” characters, due to their conditioning, are often found in dangerous careers and think little of bloodshed; they are also usually being moved around like chess pieces by higher outside forces.
We don’t know what the hell the UAA or Sylvia is doing as of NMH3. The UAA was no longer false as of NMH2, but why do we still need this bureaucracy / to have the fights taped and widely circulated on the dark web as of TSA? Not to mention that Travis is an “above-ground” assassin while there’s an underground... tl;dr, I suspect Sylvia of manipulating Travis as a pawn, as she has since NMH1, in a way that might involve the Emerald Order and whatever figures were originally manipulating Travis/Jeane/Henry.
The siblings’ separation also fits neatly into the concept of the Shelters: at least one pair of siblings was separated via the Shelter Project, conditioned, then adopted into different families for the sake of spreading out that influence.
Travis has issues with unearthing suppressed memories (perhaps due to tampering?) in NMH3, plus Henry’s experiences with Mimmy in NMH2 suggest Henry does as well.
We don’t know much about Jeane, but “failed” Ayames and Kamuis -- those who didn’t take up the programming well enough -- are usually people on the fringes of society who aren’t placed anywhere influential and have to reckon with their latent violent tendencies some other way, ie CRIME and MURDERS. With her brothers as possible Kamuis, it’s possible she was an Ayame candidate as well, but remained an outcast due to her lack of compatibility. Ayames are also known for being purer / more given to bloodlust as the Ayame project, taking place after the Kamui one, had perfected the conditioning process-- see: the fact that she nearly took Travis out.
Finally: it would be cool and I like it.

The trust before streets mentality, as currently used, means that the state has to first of all establish buy-in before doing anything. Concretely, if the goal is to make the streets safer for pedestrians, the state must not just build a pop-up bike lane or a pedestrian plaza overnight, the way Janette Sadik-Khan did in New York, because that is insensitive to area residents. Instead, it must conduct extensive public outreach to meet people where they’re at, which involves selling the idea to intermediaries first.
This is always sold as a racial justice or social justice measure, and thus the idea of trust centers low-income areas and majority-minority neighborhoods (and in big American cities they’re usually the same – usually). Thus, the idea of trust before streets is that it is racist to just build a pedestrian plaza or bus lanes – it may not be an improvement, and if it is, it may induce gentrification. I’ve seen people in Boston say trust before streets to caution against the electrification of the Fairmount Line just because of one article asserting there are complaints about gentrification in Dorchester, the low-income diverse neighborhood the line passes through (in reality, the white population share of Dorchester is flat, which is not the case in genuinely gentrifying American neighborhoods like Bushwick).
I’ve equally seen people use the expression generational trauma. In this way, the trust before streets mentality is oppositional to investments in state capacity. The state in a white-majority nation is itself white-majority, and people who think in terms of neighborhood autonomy find it unsettling.
The reality of low-trust politics is about the opposite of what educated Americans think it is. It is incredibly concrete. Abstract ideas like social justice, rights, democracy, and free speech do not exist in that reality, to the point that authoritarian populists have exploited low-trust societies like those of Eastern Europe to produce democratic backsliding. A Swede or a German may care about the value of their institutions and punish parties that run against them, but an Israeli or a Hungarian or a Pole does not.
In Israel, this is visible in the corona crisis: Netanyahu’s popularity, as expressed in election polls, has recently risen and fallen based on how Israel compares with the Western world when it comes to handling corona. In March, there was a rally-around-the-flag effect in Israel as elsewhere, giving Netanyahu cover to refuse to concede even though parties that pledged to replace him as prime minister with Benny Gantz got 62 out of 120 seats, and giving Gantz cover not to respond to hardball with hardball and instead join as a minister in Netanyahu’s government. Then in April and May, as Israel suppressed the first wave and had far better outcomes than nearly every European country, let alone the US, Netanyahu’s popularity surged while that of Gantz and the opposition cratered. The means did not matter – the entire package including voluntary quarantine hotels, Shin Bet surveillance for contact tracing, and a tight lockdown that Netanyahu, President Rivlin, and several ministers violated nonchalantly, was seen to produce results.
In the summer, this went in reverse. The second wave hit Israel earlier than elsewhere, and by late summer, its infection rate per capita was in the global top ten, and Israel had the largest population among those top ten countries. In late September it reached around 6,000 cases a day, around 650 per million people. The popularity of Netanyahu’s coalition was accordingly shot; Gantz himself is being nearly wiped out in the polls, but the opposition was holding steady, and Yamina, a party to the right of Likud led by Naftali Bennett that is not currently in the coalition and is perceived as more competent, Bennett himself having done a lot to moderate the party’s line, surged from its tradition 5-6 seats to 16.
Today the situation is unclear – Israelis have seen the state fight the second wave but it was not nearly as successful as in the spring, and right now there is a lot of chaos with vaccination. On the other hand, Israel is also the world’s vaccination capital, and eventually people will notice that by March Israel is (most likely) fully vaccinated while Germany is less than 10% vaccinated. Low-trust people notice results. If they’re disaffected with Netanyahu’s conduct, which most people are, they can then vote for a right-wing-light satellite party like New Hope, just as many voted Kulanu in 2015, which advertised itself as center, became kingmaker after the results were announced, and immediately joined under Netanyahu without trying to seriously negotiate.
The story of corona in Israel does not exist in isolation. Low trust in many cases exists because people perceive the state to be hostile to their interests, which happens when it does not provide tangible goods. Many years ago, talking about his own history immigrating from the Soviet Union in the 1970s, Shalom Boguslavsky credited the welfare state for his integration, saying that if he’d immigrated in the 1990s he’d probably have ended up in a housing project in Ashdod and voted for Avigdor Lieberman, who at the time was running on Russian resentment more than anything.
In Northern Europe, perhaps trust is high precisely because the state provides things. My total mistrust of the German state in general and Berlin in particular is tempered by the fact that, at queer meetups, people remind me that Berlin’s center-left coalition has passed universal daycare, on a sliding scale ranging from 0 for poor parents to about €100/month for wealthy ones. This more than anything reminds me and others that the state is good for things other than dithering on corona and negatively stereotyping immigrant neighborhoods.
Such provisions of tangible goods cannot happen in a trust before streets environment. This works when the state takes action, and endless public meetings in which every objection must be taken seriously are the death of the state. It says a lot that in contrast with Northern Europe, in the United States even in wealthy left-wing cities it is unthinkable that the municipality can just raise taxes to pay teachers and social workers better. Low trust is downstream of low state capacity. Build the streets and trust will follow.

In a very unexpected moment tonight, I found myself writing something. Yes, some actual fiction. Umm, wow. It’s not particularly-polished, I certainly wouldn’t call it “good”, but nonetheless, here is a thing.
This is a ghost from an old, 2015-era writing project of mine. You probably will have seen bits of it before. This would be the opening portion of the novel, if the novel was still in any way a possibility. The two main characters meet and compare notes on themselves and the confusing mess of the world they live in.
(A passing content note: their world is recovering in some ways and has been worse inside both Tai and Corazon’s lifetimes, but it is not a happy place, and some very bad things have happened. So a measure of reader discretion is advised.)
(Also, yes, the ending is quite abrupt - it’s 2 AM so I should probably consider calling it a night.)
Anyway, have about ~3500 words of fiction...
‘We have arrived at the Corazon residence,’ the car said.
Lieutenant Tai Zhang looked up from her phone. ‘Thank you,’ she said. ‘Lock the doors while I’m out, but don’t drive off. I should only be a few minutes.’
The car said, ‘For insurance purposes I’m instructed to remind you that I have an anti-carjacking protocol-’
‘Yes, yes, of course,’ Tai sighed. ‘If one of the locals tries to put you up on bricks, you’ll zap them with a stun charge and zoom off. And howl for the police. Who may even turn up, who knows. And Dr Corazon and I will have to walk back to the Fleet base. I get it, I get it. Now let me get on with my job.’
The car took the hint and shut up. It wasn’t a full Tech Mind, of course – no way could the Navy afford their contracting rates – but its social simulation unit wasn’t entirely stupid either. The door unfolded upwards. Hot, damp January air flooded in, along with the smells of the city. Vegetation, oil, a hint of sewage and a whiff of something rotten. Actually, compared to the New Dockside area, this wasn’t so bad.
Tai climbed out of the car; the door hissed down behind her. She took a look around herself. She was stood on a cracked and pitted curbside. Amazingly, it looked like pre-Contact concrete. There was certainly no sign that it had experienced any recent maintenance. To judge from the fractured blocks, some of which lay out of place, it may well not have had any repairs since the early 2040s.
‘At least there is a pavement around here,’ Tai muttered. New London had a lot of dirt tracks; the first tsunami had sunk a good chunk of the old city and the quakes had done for a lot of what survived. Rock One, after all, had come down right in the middle of the North Sea. Whilst it had been the smallest of the two impactors, nonetheless it had been big enough. It was fair to say that coastal and near-coastal Europe had had a bad day.
Just as the car had promised, Corazon’s house was right in front of her. Tai was interested to note that it was a treehouse, clearly post-Contact. All bulbous and round, big fat leaves hanging over its top. Windows and a door had been incorporated into the bioengineered wood. The house-tree seemed fully grown, and from the lichen on the bark, it had to be at least a few years old. As she looked around, Tai saw that most of the neighbouring dwellings were also treehouses, though confusingly, there was a surviving pre-Contact apartment block on the corner of the street. The brickwork and the old-style PVC windows looked incredibly out of place, the building equivalent of a fly stuck in amber.
Tai fingered the collar of her uniform jacket. She felt uncomfortably-hot. A glance at her phone revealed that the air temperature was hovering around twenty-five degrees Celsius – not exceptionally hot for the time of year, but certainly enough to be unpleasant. No point wasting any time, then. She needed to go and collect their guest.
Tai opened the little picket-fence gate in front of the house and started down the path. Next to her, an array of solar panels was tracking the Sun. Corazon’s garden also had a backup wind turbine, parked on the opposite side of the path. Apparently the academic didn’t trust the municipal grid. Honestly, Tai couldn’t blame him, though on the other hand it did seem a bit excessive. After all, this was the 2060s, not the ‘50s. Even a chaotic urban mess like New London averaged about six hours’ reliable electricity per day.
Tai reached the door. She lifted her hand and knocked smartly on it, rapping three times. It was an Academy instinct, repeatedly burnt into her brain by the Fleet’s officer candidate school. You always knocked three times and waited before entering, unless of course you really liked doing lots of push-ups. This January morning was, in Tai’s opinion, far too hot for push-ups.
She heard some clattering from inside the house. ‘Wait, wait, I’m on my way!’ a muffled voice said. It was male, with an accent she couldn’t quite place.
The door opened. Tai blinked. ‘Uh,’ she said.
The man looked at her, seeming a bit confused. Then recognition flickered across his face. ‘Oh of course!’ he said. ‘You’re from the Fleet, aren’t you. They said they’d be sending a car, though I did wonder if it would actually turn up.’
Tai managed to recover her surprise. She hadn’t realised that her passenger-to-be was old. From his grey hair and wrinkled face, he couldn’t be under fifty. With a slight shiver, Tai realised what that meant – he’d been born, and had grown up, beforehand. Before all of it happened.
‘Dr Carlos Corazon, I assume?’ she said. He nodded. ‘Lovely to meet you. I’m Lieutenant Tai Zhang, and I’ve been tasked with bringing you to the shuttle-dock. We’ll be going up to the Relentless together, for the shakedown flight.’
Corazon blinked. ‘They’re farming out their officers on taxi duty? The Navy really must be a bit strained.’
Oh great, Corazon was one of those people who thought the Navy was a waste of time. It was certainly a common opinion throughout AU-Earth. Certainly it wasn’t entirely wrong. Even the most powerful human-built warship wouldn’t do much damage to even a small Spiral Fleet cruiser. Still, Tai felt this criticism missed the point somewhat. Even if the AU-E Fleet was mostly an exercise in public relations, it was still important to show that the AU-E had something to offer to the wider Concordium.
Also, Corazon had another point, though she doubted he realised it. Tai had no sooner arrived at the ship then she’d found herself immediately ordered off it again, to go and collect some random civilian. She supposed it reflected the last-minute chaos going on within the ship’s complement as it got ready for its first ever flight as an actual ship of the line. A lot of the ship’s officers hadn’t even arrived until yesterday; Tai wasn’t even the latest assignee to make their way to their birth. They were due to undock in less than twenty-four hours; this was not the best use of her time. Tai should be down in Engineering, meeting with her department, getting to know the crew’s names and faces and getting their shift-schedules and duty rosters finalised.
Instead she was here, stood on a doormat somewhere out in New London’s half-resurrected urban carcass.
‘Well,’ she said, ‘the sooner we’re under way, the better.’
The Relentless was the Fleet’s newest warship; its maiden voyage would also be carrying a complement of notaries. Some of them were journalists, some of them were various apparatchiks linked to the current federal coalition government, and a few were people of note from wider society. Dr Corazon was apparently somewhat known within the astronomical community, presumably hence his invitation.
‘Cool,’ Corazon said. ‘Just let me grab my bag…’
He turned around and disappeared back into the house. Tai fought the urge to roll her eyes at his disorganisation. A few moments later, the academic reappeared, clutching a carry-bag. To Tai’s eyes it didn’t look like he had remotely enough changes of clothes – but, she decided that was his problem and not hers.
‘This way,’ she said, gesturing him toward the car.
He closed the door of the house behind him, locking then double-locking it. ‘Just let me arm the security system,’ he said, pulling out his phone. Tai waited patiently as Corazon fiddled with the keys. Something beeped and he looked satisfied. His phone disappeared back into a pocket. This at least was an urge Tai could understand.
‘Lots of crime around here?’ she asked.
He shrugged. ‘Some. Barnet’s not too bad. There are worse boroughs, it’s actually fairly good around here. Most people on this street have formal jobs, you know?’
‘That might attract the gangs,’ Tai noted. ‘Rich neighbourhood and all that.’
Corazon shrugged. ‘My security system is a licensed Tech Mind unit. Non-sentient, of course, but advanced enough to handle itself.’
‘That and a treehouse,’ Tai observed. ‘Those are triffid products. You clearly like your aliens.’
They started walking toward the car. Corazon said, ‘Might as well get used to it. They’re here to stay, you know. I probably know that better than most.’
‘If you don’t mind me asking,’ Tai said, ‘how old are you?’
Corazon rolled his eyes. ‘I knew that question was coming. I get that a lot. Apparently I’m the first old man some of our undergraduates have ever seen.’
That was unlikely in practise – even today, about twenty percent of the AU-E’s population had been born before 2040 – but it wasn’t entirely-impossible either. People in the mid-to-late 2040s and the ‘50s had produced a lot of kids, and that was probably just as well given how few of them there had been left. The New Baby Boom was showing signs of cooling down, though honestly, that was probably not a bad thing either. The planet wasn’t in a great state, and overshooting its carrying capacity was probably a bad idea.
‘You didn’t answer the question,’ Tai said.
Corazon looked irritated. ‘No, I suppose I didn’t, did I? All right, if you insist, I’m sixty-three. I was born in 2004.’
               Tai blinked. ‘Shit,’ she said.
‘Yeah,’ Corazon agreed. There wasn’t any need to elaborate on that one.
An awkward silence descended as they approached the car. Tai sent the all-clear to the security system. The doors were folding up and quite suddenly, it began to get dark. Tai felt confused – she couldn’t see any clouds and the forecast for the day had been for clear weather.
‘Oh,’ Corazon said. ‘Of course. Right on cue!’ He pointed up at the sky.
Tai glanced quickly upwards. A big bite was eating the side of the Sun. Corazon said, ‘Parasol Two. Bang on time.’
Oh, of course. Tai had completely forgotten about the parasol-satellite’s scheduled appointment with the Sun.
‘Let’s get in the car,’ Tai said. Even though this was a relatively upscale neighbourhood, she didn’t really want to be stood around on the pavement during the parasol-eclipse. There was such a thing as asking for trouble.
Corazon needed no urging. Moments later they were both safely ensconced in the car. Outside, smoothly and without fuss, an artificial night was falling over the city. Lights flickered on inside buildings, stars bloomed across the now-nightfallen heavens and a few of the streetlights even turned on. The rest were either broken or missing their bulbs.
‘Car,’ Tai said, ‘take us to the Fleet’s dockside complex, please.’
‘Acknowledged,’ the vehicle’s electronic voice said.
The electric engine gently purred to life and the headlights came on. The car pulled out from the curb and began its journey through the city.
‘It will rain later, I expect,’ Corazon remarked. ‘Once the Parasol moves over, I mean. The drop in air temperature can drive condensation in the clouds.’
The forecast hadn’t mentioned that, but Tai supposed it wouldn’t be surprising if it was wrong.
‘Do you find the eclipses weird?’ Tai asked. She realised, just a moment too late, that the question was probably too personal and probably too judgemental. Her passenger certainly thought so. Even in the internal lights of the car, his face darkened.
‘Young lady,’ Corazon snapped, ‘I find everything about this world weird. This is nothing like the place I thought I’d grow old in. It’s the same planet, but a different universe. Though I’m sure that won’t make much sense to you. From the looks of you I’m guessing you’re a post-Contact child.’
He was, Tai thought, rather patronising. She wondered if it was deliberate. No, she didn’t think so. It was just how he was. Perhaps this had been normal behaviour, perfectly average for the world prior to June the Eighth, 2040.
‘I was born in 2042,’ Tai said. ‘I never knew my parents. They got Lung Rot and died not long after I was born.’
The academic didn’t appear to have heard her. He was still staring upwards at the sky.
‘No,’ Corazon said, ‘at least the eclipses make sense. Giant mirror-satellites in orbit, blocking out some sunlight, keeping the temperatures down. Stopping a damaged atmosphere from frying the planet. People did have ideas like that, you know, before. The Contact War made it worse, but climate change existed before 2040. Hell, I vaguely remember hearing about it back in the 2000s!’
Tai boggled. ‘You remember back then?’
‘A bit. I was six in 2010, remember? I do recall the family being very upset about something around ‘08, though I didn’t really understand it.’
‘What could it have been?’ Tai asked. ‘There weren’t any problems then!’
‘There was a planet-wide economic collapse,’ Corazon said. ‘Though nothing like as bad as what happened in the Forties – or the Twenties, for that matter. Anyway it hardly matters now. It was something we did to ourselves, without any external help.’ He looked at the sky, and shuddered. A haunted expression flooded across his face. ‘You know, not like that.’
The artificial night had filled the sky with stars. Some of them were moving – spacecraft, on their journeys to and from any number of destinations. A lot of them were concentrated in the direction of the Moon, though there was no surprise there. The Moon was the main reason the Spiral Concordium bothered with Sol and its planets, after all. It was indirectly the source of all this trouble.
But Corazon wasn’t looking at any of that. His eyes were locked on something else, lower down in the sky. It was pitted and cratered, a rough spheroid, greyish in colour. It was currently in crescent phase, hanging low in the sky and close to the artifically-occluded Sun. But there was no mistaking it.
‘Rock Three,’ Corazon said. ‘That fucker. The one that would have ended us.’
It was harmless now, of course. The 3008th Division of the Spiral Fleet had seen to that, stabilising it onto a safe-if-low orbit around the Earth. But the engineers of the New And Bountiful Prosperity Combine had done their work correctly – had Rock Three impacted, it would have been sufficient to end the Earth’s biosphere, and hide all the evidence of New Prosperity’s crimes forever. The Moon would have been theirs, along with all its reserves of precious Lovecraftium, and the uninhabitable neighbouring planet would have been passed off as a tragic cosmic accident.
‘Three hundred miles wide,’ Corazon said. ‘They actually towed it in all the way from the Kuiper Disc. It wasn’t even in our records before they tossed it at us. Not even a tsunami-making rock. An ocean-boiling rock.’
Rock Three was now a de facto second moon and a permanent fixture in the Earth’s skies, but it was also something that had very nearly been the tombstone for an entire planet. For all the horror they had inflicted, for all the hundreds of millions of people they’d killed, Rocks One and Two had merely been the opening salvos.
‘And of course they tossed in Lung Rot,’ Tai said. ‘As a nice little fuck-you parting-shot.’
‘Yeah, had that.’ Corazon looked grim, then he shrugged. ‘Wasn’t fun. It was like doing Covid all over again. Just joyous. Gotta love hacking up fungal slime out of your own alveoli all day.’
He shuddered. It was a whole-body convulsion.
The Contact War and the two Rocks had been bad, but it was Lung Rot that had done the real, lasting damage. During the early Forties, people had been dying fast enough that the survival of the species had seemed in question for a time, though in practise the Spiral Concordium would never have allowed that. Even if it required raising a cloned population somewhere else, in some carefully-sterilised biodome on some other planet, the Concordium would not have allowed an actual extinction-event. The whole point of the galactic union, for all of its many flaws, was preventing exactly that sort of horror. The Contact War itself should never have happened, of course, but once the Concordium had belatedly become aware of what New Prosperity was doing, they had moved to shut it down. New Prosperity no longer existed; the entire organisation had been declared traitors and anyone who survived the Battle of Earth had been mercilessly hunted down. If there were any former Prosperity scions left out there somewhere, they knew better by now then to advertise their survival.
Lung Rot had been a vicious punch in the face, a final little parting-present from New Prosperity, the spores air-dropped into multiple locations across the Earth even as the Combine’s forces crumbled under the Spiral assault. No-one was really sure why they’d done it. It had gained them nothing; if Rock Three had left any questions unanswered, then Lung Rot surely had removed any doubt about the Combine’s intentions. Their fall had been absolute, from one of the oldest, wealthiest and most-celebrated organisations in the Milky Way to one of the most-despised collections of traitors who had ever lived.
Suddenly, Tai had to talk. The urge was abrupt, dominating, complete. It was probably also a bad idea, but you didn’t always get the choice with these things. The words were flowing from her mouth, and like it or not, they weren’t going to just magically turn off.
‘My earliest actual memory is when they sprayed the camps,’ Tai said. ‘I was in one of the refugee ones, just another orphaned toddler. I had a cough by then, of course. Everyone did. There was space in our tent – a lot of people had been taken out. New people weren’t coming in, not anymore. I didn’t really know what it meant then, of course. But then one day people were – excited? It was weird. I’d never seen them like that. There was suddenly not any crying. People were hugging each other and smiling. I remember they pulled me out of the tent. People were coming out of the tents, everywhere. There was an actual crowd. Cheering, even! It was some triffids that came through. They were pulling a spray-tank. They sprayed all of us – one of them even shoved the nozzle in my mouth!’
‘And the retroviral agent re-wrote your lungs,’ Corazon noted. ‘So they now secrete a natural fungicide, keeping the Lung Rot mycelium at subclinical levels. Yeah, something similar happened to me. Kind of crazy, one of the happiest days of my life, you know? The day in 2045, when the aliens came to genetically-engineer all of us.’ He shook his head. ‘Flying saucers spraying the cities with bio-agents, and people dancing in the streets below! Would’ve been unimaginable just ten years before.’
This chatter was, of course, a normal thing. Tai had had lots of conversations like this. It was quite an average event for people to compare their traumas – virtually everyone living in the AU-Earth had some emotional burden that they were carrying around with them. It was true that social conditions were improving – things were merely “bad” now, rather then the “borderline-apocalyptic” of twenty years previously – but an important part of getting to know someone was trying to gently figure out where their personal sore spots and pain-points lay. Triggering someone into a flashback episode was generally considered to be a social faux pas, especially if it was done deliberately. There were also practical concerns too. It was difficult for a workplace to function if half its staff were either lying on the floor sobbing or had been driven to flee the building by their own inner demons.
Corazon sighed, shrugged and opened his bag. Tai read that as his cue to dismiss this topic. He’d said his piece. And so, she supposed, had she. He knew not to mention the camps, she knew not to mention Lung Rot. They’d told each other what they needed to know, and now it was time to move smoothly onwards.
To Tai’s surprise, he pulled out a pair of knitting needles and a ball of wool. Moments later, a pair of half-finished socks emerged. ‘I am glad someone decided to save the sheep,’ he remarked. ‘We lost so many of the others.’
Lung Rot had been aimed at humans, of course, but the mycelium was at home in any warm, enclosed, moist, dark space. There had been extinctions all throughout Class Mammalia. A whole host of species now only existed as captive populations in carefully-maintained bio-domes, and they were the lucky ones. Someone had cared enough to try to rescue them, during the end of the world.
And the less said about that, the better.
‘You like knitting?’ Tai asked.
Corazon nodded. ‘Actually I make sixty percent of my income from it. My lectureship is nice, but academia is more like a hobby with an office.’ He started up on the socks, the needles twisting and twirling through a series of moves that Tai’s eyes struggled to follow.
‘You sell socks?’ Tai asked. It didn’t surprise her that Corazon had a side-hustle – the AU-Earth’s budgetary situation was tight, and that was very visible in public sector salaries. It was just as well that Tai’s role as an officer came with government-subsidised housing, because there was no way she could afford anything minimally-pleasant on the private market.
‘No, scarves, usually,’ Corazon said. ‘They’re mostly bought by ash lizards. I got into it almost by accident, when I went to Nine Shadows And Six Rivers back in ’52. Took my needles and stuff with me, made a scarf on the ship out. It was just something to do, you know? But when we arrived I gave it to one of our liaison team, as a gift – and they loved it. Before I knew it I had a waiting-list of gender-bending alien lizards, who all wanted individual knitted scarves.’ He snorted. ‘I got to live the high life out on Nine Shadows, while the rest of the exchange group had to slum it, down on the cheap floors of the arcology.’
‘Oh of course,’ Tai said. ‘They like decoration, don’t they?’
‘They don’t go in for clothes in quite the way we do – heat retention messes up their metabolisms something chronic. But they do go in for decoration. Necklaces, wrist-sheathes, sashes. Scarves. Natural materials are particularly-prized.’ He shrugged. ‘Who would have known that knitted goods would be a key export from this planet?’

Understanding the Concept of Energy in Our Daily Lives
I consider myself to be an equally spiritual and academic person. It has been of great importance to me to understand how everything is connected, because coming to terms with how the universe works has helped me understand myself and my place in this world better. I will be explaining all that I have seen through my experience, I will be writing on how I see things so far, because I’ve been able to notice a specific pattern.
Energy is everywhere around us- the electricity in our homes, the heat in the air, the sounds of the city, our electronics; energy is already there in so many forms. Yet there is a hidden dimension of energy that’s hiding in plain sight: electromagnetic waves.
The point of saying sight, specifically, was to help you realize that the light and colors that we see are all electromagnetic waves, as you may recall from school:
Tumblr media
This should definitely seem familiar to you.
~
There’s one part of this we’re missing out on. The brain is a complex unit that includes so many functions that fuel our lives: performing chemical reactions necessary to sustain life, sending electric pulses to enable our movements, but above all the brain emits electromagnetic waves:
Tumblr media
The different wavelengths/waves we emit express a specific state that our entire being is in, therefore is “uniformly spread” in our body, skin, limbs, etc.
~
So to recap, we have electricity pulsing through our muscles caused by a certain electromagnetic phenomenon. Does that sound familiar?
Tumblr media
Yes.
Induction.
The process whereby running a current through a wire generates a magnetic field whose magnitude can be calculated through various formulae.
There’s even a group of researchers in the University of California, San Diego that tried using the inductive phenomenon of a coil to produce a wireless healthcare monitoring system, you can check that out here.
We seem to underestimate our capacities in this world by a great order of magnitude, we are a machine so incredibly complicated it is not only comprised of pure physical efficiency and pitch perfect adaptability but also capable of conscious thought and understanding- with a layer of spirituality on top.
What I’d like to say is that consciousness is the exact gateway between the physical and spiritual realms.
It’s as simple as that. Being conscious gives you the ability to understand that you live in a physical world, and your thoughts decide whether you wish to become wrapped in the physical, or if you rise above and find nobler spiritual purpose, possibly the meaning of life.
~
There’s an entire world of intuitively gifted/spiritually gifted people who have already felt these things and are familiar with them. I’m only here to reinforce that, and to remind you of your nature in this world.
You already have an inherent energy in you, called an aura. There are some gifted with the ability to see this haze of energy as a color around your person, similarly to this:
Tumblr media
Not everyone has this gift, it’s rather uncommon. It’s also very overwhelming, as i’ve heard from the people i know. Spiritually gifted people are already attuned to this hidden dimension energy and are extremely sensitive to it. Those who cannot see auras can always feel the aura. Like knowing for example that someone is a bad or good person, you can feel their vibe. Don’t forget that vibe is vibration, referring to frequency and electromagnetic energy.
~
i’d like to point out the fact that literally everything has energy.
Your thoughts? Energy.
You can feel the connotation of certain thoughts, in words like “poor” or “nuance” or “disgusting”- it’s more than what you’ve been taught on what language it’s from or what it means, even if you’ve never heard or seen this word you know its connotation, because you can feel the intention that is carried with it. Language is simply a tool that expresses the forms of energy we’re already familiar with.
We all feel the lightness/heaviness of certain ideas, especially ones that have to do with darker themes (that will not be mentioned, to avoid triggers.)
The quality of our thoughts dictates the quality of our being, and the quality of our environment. Good energy attracts good energy. Bad energy attracts bad energy. Adjusting and filtering our thoughts is the single most powerful way to change our lives. But don’t forget that changing your thoughts should also come with changing your environment too, which could involve social circle, lifestyle, habits, the places you frequent, etc...
~
in more developed spiritual practices like reiki or witchcraft you often learn the power that is inherent in your body. There are concepts that make you realize many things about the world, such as:
-pointing is actually a way to cast out energy into the world. it’s not pure fantasy wizardry.
-cleaning your room and environment actually prevents energy blockages in your life. this gives a deeper meaning to “your space is a reflection of who you are”
-there’s a reason emotions are tied to water. we often try to bury emotions in our subconscious through repression, which forms a sort of dam- an energy blockage. this causes great trouble, and the only healthy way of dealing with emotions is to allow yourself to feel them, let them course through you, and release them- exactly like how water should flow.
-”clicking” with someone is often a result of the superposition of your electromagnetic fields resulting in constructive interference (as you may have seen in various experiments that deal with water ripples or ropes or light)
Tumblr media
If you are spiritually gifted, please do NOT ignore your gift. it has saved me and my friends on many occasions.
Energy runs deep in our lives, please, pay attention to the small details that matter.
You’ll come to realize the hidden dimensions of life and understand the world around you better- that includes the people around you and yourself.
You can check out my other post on chaos and energy patterns here.

“The State/the moral subject aspires to create clarity, legibility, homogeneity: the space or territory that renders law possible. Chaos is disorder, confusion, lawlessness. No State/moral subject can be within its midst, except through exclusion.
The State/the self generates the conditions for the possibility of law by defining and excluding those who lie beyond it: the “dark” Others, the enemy, against which the rule of law/the moral law is illuminated.
The State/the moral self are endless tasks; the perpetuation of either calls upon permanent surveillance, repression and destruction.
Yet the shadows and the cracks remain, wherein lurks the fear and terrors of the sovereign. Haunted and obsessed by that which it has condemned, it is in turn condemned to a conflict without conclusion, to a war without end, against the excluded.
However extensive and intense the apparatuses of control are, they can never – except at the price of the sovereign’s own self-destruction – completely master the heterogeneity of the multitude. And the fissures of society, of the self, if history is to be our judge, have always been assailed.
Whatever the logic and efficacy of the reproduction of social/psychic-somatic relations, “contradictions” within the social/psychic body find paths of expression that if given, or if capable of forcing, space, give birth to new relations: relations that redeem the authority of the past, create new sovereign power, or that break with sovereignty completely. It is this last that we hold to as revolution.
In the shadow world beyond hierarchical power moves a radically different kind of sovereignty, a sovereignty of untameable energy and agency not beholden to State or Self, but that spills out and over the limits of the law and duty. It is that from whence creation drinks and feeds itself, the source of religion, art, myth, the humus of transgression and sacred violence against the violent domestication of State and Self.
As the latter falter in their authority, as the dysfunctions and fractures increase and intensify, a “counter” political sovereignty can grasp for re-doubled authority. Under modern capitalism, as political power loses its hold over social life, over the relations of oppression and exploitation that are its very raison d’être, fascism is a permanent political possibility.
The seduction and sway of fascism lies in its capacity to drink from the same source of creativity as revolution. Erupting from the margins of “legitimate” authority, from the formal, repetitive and impotent tedium of capitalist-parliamentarianism, incapable in itself of responding to crisis except by perpetuating the ground for future or persistent crisis, fascism emerges as a movement, a transgressive movement of mythic re-foundation of political sovereignty. It acts with unrestrained violence where before there was often cowardly hesitation, corruption and ineptitude. The mask is removed, the political war machine is unleashed, and all that stands in the way of the unification of the nation must be enslaved, expelled and/or murdered.
Fascism however is a movement that arises from the heterogeneous multitude only to endeavour to create a more intense form of homogeneity, of hierarchical sovereign power. Passionate (“religious”) in its origins, militaristic in its organisation, it is nevertheless not bereft of reason, as the conquest of political sovereignty demands thought, however uncritical of its final goal. But then herein lies fascism’s failure as a revolutionary movement.
Paladin for the excluded of deterritorialised capitalism, the movement and its leader can only in turn exclude others (through racism, sexism, xenophobia, etc.), while guarding and intensifying the very capitalist social relations that systematically produce marginalisation. The fascist revolution reveals itself then for what it is: a reactionary revanchism.
It would be naive to add, in a celebratory tone, that it is a revolution doomed to failure. If it is, then in its most recent incarnations, its collapse may mean that of the human species. Fascism’s motto could be summarised as “Total power or death!”, or, to cite the spanish falangist slogan, “¡Viva la muerte!”.
(...)
As a child of modern capitalism, fascism may assume different appearances. Black and brown shirts may be unnecessary to announce its coming, when so many “democratic” states openly embrace politics of exception in the face of crisis. As the latter deepens, such states may be capable of keeping society together, or not. Should they fail, then fascism, in some form, can always rear its grotesque face. Fascist government is but government in an explicit, permanent state of exception; something that most “democratic” governments are themselves embracing, without assuming that they are.
If fascism threatens, if its coming heralds the aggravation of crisis, then revolutionary anti-capitalism and anti-fascism must strike out at State sovereignty, the instrument that hitherto has served to secure the conditions for the reproduction of capitalist social relations. But it cannot do so by aspiring to State power, by seeking to create a true “State of Law”, at least if it wishes to avoid the contradictions of fascism (trapped between its source in the heterogeneity of the multitude and its desire for deeper State authority and social homogeneity). But it must as well learn from fascism, assume in part the shared, common source of wild life, and then imagine and live a radically different kind of sovereignty freed from the State and Self-identity.”
