God Put a Smile Upon Your Face (Vanitas no Carte; Roland & Astolfo fanfic)
Title: God Put a Smile Upon Your Face (ongoing)
Rating: Teen and Up
Summary: Immediately following the events of Gévaudan, Astolfo suffers from the fatal side effects of overdosing the injections. His vulnerable state and fixed hatred permits a mysterious, demonic force to invade his body. After a series of strange occurrences, Astolfo disappears in the middle of the night leading Roland and Olivier deep into the forbidden layers of the French catacombs where they must traverse a maze of unmentionable horrors to save Astolfo from what has dragged him below. As Roland and Olivier venture deeper and deeper, they realize the lower catacombs are much more than an ossuary, and that returning to surface may not ever be possible.
Characters: Astolfo Granatum, Roland Fortis, Olivier, Noe Archiviste, Vanitas
Relationships: Olivier/Roland, Astolfo & Roland (platonic/familial)
Warnings/Notes: The vibe is "The Exorcist" plus "As Above, So Below." It's generally creepy, but wanted to take a stab at wtf happens to the chasseurs post-Gevaudan. Also there's some slight spoilers for the recent manga chapters

Note
Hello! I want to request something for the 600 followers thingy. The characters I would like to be matched with are Yuji Itadori, Noé Archiviste, and Winry Rockbell.
I have shoulder-length black hair with bluish highlights, but I wanna get it cut shorter. I’m 5 foot 1, and I have brown eyes. I enjoy wearing casual stuff (esp. anime t-shirts)
I really like science, especially astronomy and biology. I also like stories in all kinds of formats. My dream career is to be an author of some sort, whether it’s a graphic novelist, scriptwriter, or just traditional author. I would like to publish a fantasy story. I enjoy drawing also, but I don’t really have the motivation to finish a lot of drawings.
I dislike responsibilities and homework. I also don’t particularly like the taste of mayonnaise and the smell of mulch. I really dislike people who lie or don’t keep their promises. I also don’t really like drama-filled romance stories.
I think I’m a pretty forgetful person. I sometimes have trouble letting go of the past, and I enjoy acting childish. I don’t like serious discussions, and I prefer to keep things lighthearted. I enjoy rambling on about stuff, but I always try to pay attention to other people to make sure they’re happy as well.
My favorite color is either bluish-purple or teal. My favorite food is sushi. My favorite sport is skiing. My favorite time of day is the afternoon/midnight, and my favorite genre is action/adventure.
I’m kinda in between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, I use all pronouns, and I’m demiromantic and ace. I do not want kids, and my favorite emoji is the sparkle emoji.
I hope I got everything. Thanks!
Hello lovely! I hope you like your request!
Itadori Yuji Request:
Tumblr media
Compatibility: 94%!!
How Did You Meet?: Itadori saves you from a cursed spirit! So you enroll in Jujutsu High after that and become fast friends that become something more after a few years of mutual pining and second-hand embarrassment.
How the Relationship Will Work From Day to Day: In the early stages of your relationship (which starts in your third year of Jujutsu), Itadori is the first one to come to wake you up and greet you in the morning with kisses! Then the two of you attend classes, go on missions—sometimes together, sometimes not—and meet again in the evening. He walks you to your dorm every night and gives you a goodnight kiss :)
Marriage?: Hell yeah! Everyone from Jujutsu attends (Gojo promises to be on his best behavior) :)
Kids?: Itadori respects your decision not to want kids, but the two of you get some pets together!
What Does the Future Hold?: You two are happily married with no thoughts of divorce long into your golden years and long after Sukuna is no longer a threat! You live happily on a large plot of land with a house the two of you built yourselves with your animals!
Noé Archiviste Request:

How Did You Meet?: Noé saved you from some vampires who had lost their true names. While Vanitas dealt with them, Noé ensured you were alright before joining the fight.
How the Relationship Will Work From Day to Day: You travel with Noé, Murr, and Vanitas! Vanitas always groans when you two share affection, but in reality, he’s just happy his friend is happy. Noé keeps you out of the fights unless you can hold your own, but really, you help with deciding where to go next on your adventures. Noé supports your dream of becoming an author wholeheartedly! He can’t give much advice, but he loves to read your writing!
Marriage?: Absolutely! Vanitas begrudgingly attends as best man but is happy for you two nonetheless.
Kids?: You have his cat Murr. Does that count?
What Does the Future Hold?: You two stay together until you both pass away in your sleep, holding hands in your old age.
Winry Rockbell Request:
Tumblr media
Compatibility: 83%
How Did You Meet?: You were a client that she fitted for automail. After your recovery (which took a couple of years, so you two became close friends), you kept coming around her shop, and the two of you ended up dating.
How the Relationship Will Work From Day to Day: You actually picked up on a lot while getting your automail, so Winry lets you help out around her shop! The only thing she doesn’t let you do is the actual operation of attaching the automail to the stump. But she does let you do just about everything else. She tries to pay you for your time but whether or not you accept the money is up to you.
Marriage?: Yes!
Kids?: You two have puppies from Den, who has a couple of litters, but no kids.
What Does the Future Hold?: You two run your own automail shop until you both decide to happily retire and live together for the rest of your lives :)

Can I say smth? No vnc female character was made to appeal the cishet male gaze. “Oh but Jeanne in that one scene-” NO VNC WOMAN I don’t give af what agenda bones was trying to push, it ain’t prevailing.
Any fanservice we get is for no straight cis man. Now Pandora Hearts is a different story, I definitely think she was trying to cater to her male demographic to varying degrees. Vnc though, absolutely not. You cannot convince me Jun “women’s thighs make me feel tingly” Mochizuki did not pull Domi and Jeanne from her fantasies.

Recently, I got back into my vanitas no carte hyper fixation and as a roleplayer I feel the urge to roleplay my favourite ship so would anyone like to roleplay Rolivier with you as Roland and me as Olivier? It'd be Semi-Lit to Literate writing preferably! I'm open to Aus and canon! Feel free to leave a comment or DM me if you want to rp!

So Jeanne's coffin case for her gauntlet is like, okay-
I made a post recently about Vanitas's earring, and how his wearing an hourglass in which the sand has run out represents how he's dead already within the narrative. Like, he's clearly still alive, but his time has already run out, and his death is a forgone conclusion, so on a symbolic level, he's a dead man walking. And though Jeanne's character doesn't revolve around her own death like Vanitas's does, I think she's in a similar state of metaphorically dead, and the case for her gauntlet is the symbol of that. It's just that unlike Vani, Jeanne has the potential to rise from the grave.
On every level but the literal one, Jeanne has been dead since the moment of her parents' execution. "Jeanne" was a fully formed person with feelings and desires and individuality. But the moment her parents were killed, the moment she became a bourreau, all that went away. The Hellfire Witch was a tool, a mindless weapon of the senate, and in becoming her, "Jeanne" had to die.
Furthermore, Jeanne's name is explicitly called out as a reference to Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc), and everything about her bourreau persona ties back into Joan's death. Joan was killed at 19, the same age that our Jeanne appears to be physically frozen at forever. Joan of Arc was burned at the stake, just as Jeanne's parents' heads were burned. Joan was burned for, among other things, accusations of witchcraft, and Jeanne became "The Hellfire Witch." For all intents and purposes, our Jeanne burned on the pyre with her parents' bodies, just like the death of her namesake.
Then, as she begins her life after death, Jeanne is given her crimson gauntlet, and it becomes the Symbol of The Hellfire Witch. It's how people identify her. And she carries it around in a coffin on her back. It is the ultimate emblem of her status of bourreau, of Dead Woman Walking, and it lays in a coffin where her body cannot.
The gauntlet is the Hellfire Witch, and the Witch is already dead.
And to go back to the comparison to Vanitas's earring, it's so interesting to look at what a burden that coffin must be for Jeanne. Vanitas wears a symbol of his death, and he wears it seamlessly. It's a small thing, hooked onto his ear and ever-present. It passes as a natural part of him. But Jeanne's symbol is heavy.
Jeanne carries an object that marks her as already dead, and it is a massive, hulking thing that she has to carry on her back. She's strong enough to manage it, of course, but that doesn't mean that lugging it is pleasant.
Because Vanitas has his own issues to unpack, but unlike him, I don't think Jeanne is particularly suicidal. She doesn't want to die. She's just been pushed into an existence where "my individual self is already dead" is the status quo, and a lot of her arc so far has been about breaking out of that pattern of behavior. (And though she'd rather die than lose control and hurt Luca, I actually think Vani's promise to kill her helps her be more alive and lively in the long run). Vanitas's death symbol is something he presumably put on himself as a reaction to Luna, but Jeanne's was forced upon her.
She could be a vibrant, stunningly alive person if not for the Senate forbidding her to act as such, and we're beginning to see bits of that as her personality comes back to life. Her status as dead is something that she carries, but something outside of the core of who she is. And though the weight is tragic, and she's spent far too long "living" as an undead tool, the other thing about the coffin is that. she can take it off.
She'll be losing a weapon if she does, losing the power of her gauntlet and what little protection being Ruthven's bourreau offers her, but if it's someday made safe for her to do so, Jeanne can come back to life and put the coffin down.

Hey, was Noé from Auvergne? Bc that's where Lestat is from. Mochizuki Jun, señora, I know you watched the IWTV film but did you read the books too? Are you watching the new TV series? Is Louis de Sade name an homage?!?! Just a min.
OK, so yes it's Auveroigne in Altus, which the vampire counterpart to the historical province. In the wiki, in Noé page says:
Averoigne is a fictional counterpart of a historical province in France, detailed in a series of short stories by the American writer Clark Ashton Smith.[1] The province is considered "the most witch-ridden in the entire country. The location is frequently used in Smith's stories as well as his close friends'.
One of the main themes tackled in the stories of Averoigne is vampires. The forests of Averoigne are said to be infested with vampires as well as werewolves.
Which means that Mochijun, who has done her research very well for Case Study of Vanitas, would likely have come across this (which seems to be the kind of stories that also got Anne Rice to choose Auvergne for Lestat???) but given that Mochijun has also said (the translation of that interview is somewhere in my vnc tag) that she watched IWTV and all the multiple references to other vampires and Gothic stories and fairy tales scattered in Vanitas I wouldn't put it pass her to put Auveroigne as a wink.
Also here you have the Wikipedia for Averoigne.
I am obssesed by this btw. The stories and worldbuilding couldn't be more different but Vanitas does occur in France, mainly Paris and has vampires so the association was a bit unavoidable in my mind.
If you have read/watched both case study of vanitas and interview with the vampire I want some crazy talk here.

I don't have a title for this but it's regarding whether Noé will or will not drink Vanitas blood
I'm sure most people in the case study of Vanitas fandom have agreed on the fact that Noé will, most likely, drink Vanitas blood before he will inevitably die. This short post is just me stating "evidence" regarding the matter.
So, as we all know, Vanitas does not want Noé to drink his blood because he is an archiviste. Makes sense. Besides the fact that it's to keep Vanitas mysterious in general, he himself has stated in an extra chapter (they were discussing the Birthdays of the main cast) that he does not like such information to be revealed to strangers, if I remember correctly. Now, I know that Noé and Vanitas are far from strangers, but it's Vanitas we are talking about here, come on.
Now, I know that in some animanga it's just an artistic choice to have the characters speak about the present as if it's the past, but Mochijun never does something without a reason behind it. So far, I think there have been three occasions where Noé spoke in past tense (of which I only have screenshots of two of them.)
Number one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the first chapter. It is revealed that Noé will kill Vanitas, but it spoken about as if it happened in the past. Now I know, artistic choice, but hold on.
Number two:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In chapter eleven (I think??) It happened again. Noé is talking about Vanitas passing.
What I am trying to get at, is that the whole story of case study of Vanitas is portrayed from Noé's point of view and it only (or mostly) contains scenes where Noé was present. Except for a few scenes with domi and flashbacks of Vanitas past. Now what do the two of them have in common based on this post? Both are the people Noé has drank or will drink the blood of.
Dominique is obvious and Vanitas just makes sense.
Maybe during Vanitas's "dying breath", Noé thought of what jean-jacques said here
Tumblr media
and wanted to remember Vani as best as he could, not wanting to forget him but also wanting to understand him, even (or especially) after his passing.
Or Vanitas thought about it and, deep down, wanted someone to remember his story. The complete story.
Now Imagine Vanitas in Noés arms, slowly dying (maybe bleeding out), Noé viewing Vani's memories and during Vanitas dying breath, Noé whisper his real name. Damn now I made myself sad.
So yea, that's about it I think?? I know this is all pretty obvious, but I still wanted to get it out of my system. Also, I apologize for any grammar mistakes or language errors, it is the middle of the night and english is not my native language.

I do wonder from time to time who the intended audience for Case Study of Vanitas even is cuz sure you can slap whatever generic genre labels you want to stick onto it. Supernatural Shounen Action Romance might be the closest you can get to describing it in layman's terms but the four lead characters are literally just a hair short of being explicitly queer, there is a plethora of intertextual callbacks to Mochijun's previous work Pandora Hearts, like 90% of the cast are classic literature and biblical references ahoy, you need to be familiar with french history to even begin dissecting multiple different story arcs, and to top it all off a healthy dose of art history + criticism is pretty crucial to establishing a baseline understanding of the symbolic and thematic aesthetics of VnC's writing. like if you can't jump over even one of those hurdles you're deluding yourself if you think you'd be able to get anything personally meaningful out of that story especially because it puts to liberal use erotic imagery and dramatic theatrics to elicit strong emotions from the reader when often those emotions themselves don't carry much narrative substance. no one is a reliable narrator, no one is a wholly decent person, everyone is going through it all the time and the only thing you're able to speculate on is how the tragic punchline unfolds because you already know how the series will end. like of course something like that would rewire your brain a bit permanently

VnC 58: the case study of astolfo
After a whole year of suspense, the Case Study of Vanitas is back with a bang and so is this tumblr blog. Time isn’t real, so let’s pretend that this analysis came out when I wrote it after reading chapter 58 rather than the day before chapter 59. Let’s go!
As always, although it’s been a while, this post will contain massive spoilers for VnC 58 and is intended for those who have read up to this point in the manga!
Tumblr media
intergalactic tea party
Chapter 58 begins with (an absolutely stunning shot of Vanitas’s tarte tatin) a quick recap of the plot so far and where the main cast is at the moment— Domi and Jeanne tragically finish their conversation offscreen; Domi and Noé have an adorable reunion; and Jeanne leaves the hotel alone, likely to report on her successful mission to a worried Luca. Jeanne looks adorably carefree as she heads out and I pray for a flashback to her conversation with Domi in the near future.
Moving rapidly along, we cut to the Archiviste Noé caught a glimpse of last chapter, traveling through the border between worlds. We learn that she’s familiar with Comte and likely Luna as well, and she and Comte sit down to have a very Pandora Hearts flavored tea break. Comte says that mystery Archiviste hasn’t travelled to the human world in ages, making it very unlikely that she was there explicitly to see Noé, although it’s possible she was (like Comte) waiting in the shadows to intervene if the fair fight reached a certain point.
Mystarchiviste in turn reveals that Comte’s existence is “unstable”. The only context we really have for that term is Vani and Misha, artificial followers of the blue moon lying somewhere between human and vampire… Comte certainly acts like a vampire, but maybe he’s actually something much more in between? My half-theory half-headcanon is that his obsession with Luna stems partially from feeling commonality with another being who doesn’t understand their own existence…
Speaking of Luna, Comte taking their form has interesting lore implications (can he take the form of anyone he’s met, or is there another requirement that has to be met first?) and also interesting fanfic implications but let’s move rapidly onwards to the real meat of chapter 58.
the chasseurs are insane
Tumblr media
A majority of VnC 58 takes place in an extended flashback, as Astolfo reflects on his past. This flashback confirms a lot of what past chapters have implied about Astolfo— he was consumed by self hatred and guilt following the vampire attack, to the point of attempting suicide. The whole flashback could easily read as yet another parallel to Vanitas, who, after finding himself as the sole survivor a second time in a row, turned to a path he knew would culminate in his own death.
We meet two fun new characters during this section of the chapter— a guy wearing an earring (I was half-wondering if this was a younger version of Olivier’s assistant, but their eyebrows and earrings are different, so he’s probably one of Gano’s homeboys) and Charles.
Earring guy is suspicious. He might have some sort of plot relevant past (cough cough, No. 7- [i am escorted off the stage]), he might be an average chasseur with a vampire related incident in his history, or he might just be your standard issue psychopath. My favorite Mochijun Flavored Detail this chapter is the panel where, under the guise of breaking up Mira and Gano’s brawl, he moves to block Olivier’s line of sight and path to Astolfo. It’s just so Mochijun and i missed her so much—-
Charles is neato, but he sort of has this vibe where he’s not meant to be the star of the panels he’s in. It’s like Astolfo isn’t fully looking at him. Even though Charles is trying to inspire faith in Astolfo here, the only light Astolfo sees is Roland. In his double-page introductory panel Charles is exclusively lit by light coming in through the door as Roland opens it. Roland, meanwhile, looks like a savior, the light behind him blinding, and Astolfo bursts into tears when he sees him. I’m so excited to watch their relationship collapse as this flashback continues..!
Through Charles’s conversation with Astolfo, we learn a very interesting piece of lore: when a vampire bites someone they aren’t injecting an aphrodisiac or poison with their fangs— they’re actively rewriting their world formula, and sometimes these effects are permanent. I feel like I should’ve been able to riddle this out, given the whole mark of the blue moon thing, but the fact that this happens so frequently throughout the series, and that Jeanne has rewritten Vanitas, is feckin shocking and feels like it has some very interesting implications for the series. Perhaps Archivistes are unique in that, rather than rewriting with their bite, they read what’s already there.
I honestly don’t have many other thoughts on Charles. He gets carried around and nobody’s allowed see him, possibly implying that he’s become sicker/ his existence has gotten more unstable ;) since he originally became a paladin. Maybe he’s the head honcho Roland and Olivier are working against, maybe he’s actually dead by the time we hit the main plotline. At this point, it feels like he could move in any direction.
interpretation, extrapolation, being wrong, that’s the mochijuncycle
Tumblr media
Vampires rewrite the world formula when they bite others, often leading to devastating and permanent consequences for those they’ve bitten. Misha and Vanitas aren’t the only two unstable beings in existence— while we’ve never heard of VnC vampires turning humans with their bite, maybe once a human has been rewritten enough times they too become unstable. Maybe Comte, in constantly changing his name and shape, has been rewriting himself to the point of instability. Maybe Noé struggles to rewrite because, as an Archiviste, he was born to simply read and record.
But you probably shouldn’t trust me on any of this because, as always, this is 100% my biased initial interpretation of Chapter 58! I hope you’re all as hyped to see this flashback play out as I am, and I’ll see you (hopefully somewhat) soon for VnC 59!

hellsing and the case study of vanitas crossover would be so cool omg i like how blonde hair green eyed monster-hunter priest that is overly enthusiastic, have superhuman strength thanks to medical enhancement, is a big brother to others in his team and is only loyal to god is a universal thing in both of this media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cute short haired vampire girls with big ahh weapons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and a lot of vampires too (basically vanitas no carte is a manga about vampires)
Tumblr media
it would be amusing to see alucard in this setting because according to the vanitas lore vampires are born under red moons and those born under blue moon are cursed, alucard was born in sunrise so hes built different plus that would be interesting to see a new type of vampire being introduced in the vanitas universe
in the vanitas setting there were vampires everywhere but they function and disguise like humans until there is a type of vampire rabbies that make them go bloodlust 🧎‍♂️ i would like to see alucard get sick with this typa rabbies too
and the vampire biology in vanitas universe allowed vampire and human crossbreed into half vampire half human called dhampir 😭 omg alutegra can have kids in this setting
and the difference is that vanitas is set in france while hellsing is set in england, that explain the big difference in attire etiquette (vanitas is set in 19th century and hellsing is set in 20th)
probably it have to be some sort of time travelling shenanigans that get the hellsing cast into vanitas universe where women dressing in breeches is not new but guns like hellsing arms is definitely a refreshing addition to the lack of gun as a weapon choice in vanitas no carte
i like how the vanitas cast are mostly bourgeois and dressed like one while the hellsing cast is also very high status but due to their job requirementsthey dress in uniforms like military force, it is stated in gonzoverse that there are other true vampires besides alucard that fly under the radar and was not exterminated since they did not pose a threat (idk if hellsing knew about helena’s existence but im sure they must had known and with the way helena phrased it there are more than only her and alucard) so despite france in vanitas universe being swarmed with vampires in hiding i dont think the hellsing cast would butcher them all since the vampires in vanitas universe live by vampire’s underground codes and rules forbid them from attacking human to protect their own people from hunters too
also vanitas no carte is a manga i would recommend because the WOMEN

Sweet Blood
Requested by a lovely reader
Chuuya x Reader,in a scenario similar to the scene in The Case Study of Vanitas;(SPOILERS if you haven’t seen the anime/manga).This is inspired by the ball episode but in were Reader is Vanitas in the situation of offering Vampire Chuuya their blood but he can only drink her blood from there on.
Also was requested by one of you lovely readers.
Mentions of Blood!Is slightly suggestive!
Note this is seperate from my vampire Chuuya series!
Semi implied Fem reader
Tumblr media
Chuuya could usually control his thirst for blood but tonight was different, the medication he took wore off quicker than usual. He found it harder to control and what was worse is that he’s stuck having to stay in this ball, watching over the crowd until he spotted you.A simple human merely being here with your vampire friend, Dazai who to his surprise hasn’t taken you to drink your blood and mark you.
To be honest he was kinda of jealous of the man because he smelt your blood before how sweet and desirable it had been.Wanting to gently wrap his black gloves finger around your neck as he sinks his teeth into your skin.Call he shameful for thinking that, not taking his eyes off you and you could surely felt them burn through the back of your head. Not seeing the coy smile daintily forming on your face as you head over to him causing the Ginger the gulp.
“Hey Chuuya, how are things?”You asked and immediately he was in a almost trance like state as he saw you don a elegant light blue dress with hints of gold, cut to reveal your shoulders and collar bone.He had to nearly slap himself out of it.
“Sorry just a bit lost in thought, hey aren’t you with that waste of bandages?”Chuuya peered over your shoulder look for where he was
“He’s busy, convincing some woman to join in on whatever suicide tactic he wants to do next.”
You roll your eyes at the thought of the man
but then averted them back onto the Ginger
seeing how stressed he looked.
“Plus it looks like your about to suffocate in here
so you’re coming to get a breath of air with me.” Taking his black gloved hand in yours dragging him through the crowd of people dancing managing to get you both into the corridor and out onto the balcony area of the palace.
“Thanks for that one.”Chuuya leaned his body over onto the railing as he gazed down at the red night casted over the city, red light hitting every curve of his face perfectly.
“Do you want to talk about what’s wrong?”You asked eyes already set on him when his casted away from the city below and onto you.
“It would be embarrassing for me to plus I rather not ask for your help.”He rubbed the nape of his neck with each breath growing heavier and so did your very concern for the man did as well.
“Chuuya?”You called out softly placing a hand on his shoulder, read the situation clearly
“Get back,I can’t drink your blood like this!”He tried to distance himself away from you.
“Well I’m not forcing you but you also don’t have any other options not unless you want Dazai’s.”You suggested seeing his eyes widen furiously
as he slammed his fists into the stone edging of the balcony causing it to crumble.
“Don’t bring his name up like that.”He huffed slowly getting closer towards you, losing every
control more quickly than he has before.
“No time left until you loose it and go in rage so I keeping my offer up Chuuya, your free to drink.”Snagging a ribbon out of your pocket and tying your hair up,his gloves hands grip onto your shoulders whilst his fangs hovered over the skin of your neck with his breath tickling it slightly.
“You sure about this Y/n because once we start neither of us will stop.”He rasped out heavily
“Please Chuuya.”Practically begging him as he sunk his teeth once he heard the approval into your neck causing a pleasurable groan slip out.
Falling back onto the ground softly, his weight leaning on you with his leg wedged between
your legs.Tilting your head up giving him more
neck room, blush now spreading access your cheeks feeling his hand gently grip your neck and rubbing his thumb soothingly.Wrapping an
arm around his neck, covering your mouth with the other hand holding back the built up pleasure coming from within.Everything was burning as your bodies moulded together perfectly.
He let out muffled groans until finally he retracted his fangs, hands then started to travel slowly down to your sides gently caressing them.Kissing the bite mark on your neck before
pulling his head back up now gazing down into your eyes with his blue ones filled with softness.
“You did so well.”He praised bringing a hand up to cup your jaw as he lowered his head til your noses touch.A chuckle reverberated from him
“Please, kiss me….”You huff not being able to still get enough of him,his touch felt like a blessing
“Desperate now, huh?”He closed the gap between your lips pressing his against yours
passionately.Slowly moving in sync not knowing what it felt like to breathe at all, letting out a stifled moan into the kiss.
Chuuya pulled back as he saw how heavy you were breathing with red spread across your face
“Well aren’t you a work of art darling.”He perched himself up with one arm still being on top of you as he looked down. You tighten your hold around his neck, pulling yourself slightly up to bury your head into his chest.
“Please only drink my blood from now on.”You practically begged not looking up to see his widen eyes that briefly flash until he let out a low laughed and smirked.Moving his hand to hold the small of your back, splaying it out
“How could I deny when you tasted so sweet.”

charmikarma's homestuck fanwork rec list
will be updated as i work my way through more things i like :) check under da cut
notes: parentheses indicate the focus(es) of each work, and works with explicit content are marked [E]. gen means there's no specific ship or character focus.
Canon Compliant or Canon-Adjacent Works
Karkat Goes To A Convention, Act 1 by Cole (gen)
i have two pitches for kgtac. here they are:
if you ever find yourself missing homestuck in the old days before postcanon, or even just the old days of homestuck fandom, you should read karkat goes to a convention immediately.
this is the most homestuck thing i have read since homestuck.
act 1 of kgtac is completed, and is the main draw here. act 2 is currently ongoing and is pretty much completely unrelated to act 1. i think it's alright. but act 1 is absolutely a must-read.
Detective Pony by sonnetstuck (dirk)
do i even need to explain this one? it's detective pony. it's a great character study of dirk. i'm sure you've all heard of it. if you haven't read it, go do that now. please.
Jade Route by SPICYYETI (jade)
jade route is a post-epilogues comic following meat!jade who is trapped in a body controlled by calliope. it's a take on the "ending" that the epilogues don't offer. i think it's pretty clever - it does a great job of using the medium. also, it's about jade :) may or may not have had an impact of some size on how i personally read jade.
AU Fics
Crossfire by HappiKatt (gen; dave)
ok, this series only contains one fic (for now). it's called "the calm is terrifying when the storm is all you've known." ok i literally could not put this fic down. it has the best hook i've ever seen. a proper fucking novel. and some of the best character writing i have EVER seen for the whole strilonde family. augh it's so good. and the art is really good too (YES IT'S ILLUSTRATED).
The Eurydice Suite by callmearcturus [E] (gen; davekat)
inception au. some of the coolest action and plot stuff with an ensemble cast i've ever read followed by the best davekat fic i've ever read. really cool stuff.
Catacombs by oxfordRoulette [E] (jadekat; dirkjohn)
another series. it's a d&d-like au. very tongue in cheek about this fact at times. the real draw here is the third fic in the series, Vanitas Vanitatum, which has stellar dirk and john writing. you could read it on its own, but the first two fics are also QUITE good, are about jadekat, and the second one sets up vanitas beautifully, so... you should read all three??? :3c

Homestuck Made This World by Ranged Touch (analysis)
hsmtw is a readthrough/analysis podcast whose goal is not to analyze homestuck on its own terms, but to challenge it and put it back into its historical context. it's not the easiest to listen to as a homestuck fan - the hosts are very critical at times, and i don't always agree with their opinions on things that happen in homestuck - but i think the analysis about what homestuck does, tries to do, and is responding to is very important, especially for people who weren't there for homestuck's original run. which... includes me! i read homestuck in 2014. i missed most of the most important homestuck historical moments. in any case, hsmtw changed the way i look at homestuck and other media. highly recommend, at the very least for understanding homestuck's historical context
Sugoi Quest for Kokoro by death420 (gen)
well well well well well well. well. 🤔 well. if it isn't ratchet and fuckin CLANK
DORITOS & FRITOS by bb-panzu (davejade)
good video. has davejade. i'm not an artist or anything but i think there's some kind of artistic genius happening here. it scratches my brain just right.

Metallic Rouge Episode 13 Review + Final Thoughts - Their Free World
Well, that was disappointing. What do you mean the anime ends like that? I finally managed to understand what the heck is going on now and it ends. It kind of sucks when one of the animes you were anticipating to watch soon becomes a train wreck.
Tumblr media
To no one’s surprise, Roy Yunghart was the Puppetmaster, but the twist goes even deeper as the Roy in front of them isn’t the real one; the real one died and the one in front of them is a Nean copy. It turns out that he likes to body jump and Cyan is his third body essentially as he jumps to her body once Sylvia stabs him. The fact that he was the one who ordained everything feels like bullcrap. I know it fits with the freedom and will themes but at this point, I don’t care anymore.
The final battle between possessed Cyan and Rouge was pretty cool, though. Naomi deciding to sacrifice her vessel and permanently be fused into Rouge’s body was something I didn’t expect. The fusion form between them was cool; it sort of looks like a Digimon with the pupils and wings. Maybe it’s just me, but it reminds me of a robotic/mecha Digimon.
The surprise twist that Opera was a Usurper and is still out and about feels like a cop out. I feel like this anime was intentionally made to be two cours, but given that it’s an original anime project and those normally don’t get two cours means that everything has to be bunched up and thrown in as much as possible. The fact that the ending of Metallic Rouge ends with Rouge facing off against Opera shows this.
I’m glad the Neans became free, but the ending doesn’t show what happens to them or what happens to the other characters. What happened with Jean? Ash? Noir? Aes/Alice? Is Giallon even alive? What happened with everyone else?
Final Thoughts
Metallic Rouge’s concept and premise was cool. Watching the trailer legit got me inserting this show into my already long watch list for Winter 2024 but as weeks went by, it started dropping in terms of story quality. I feel like Bones had high ambitions for this project, but couldn’t really execute them properly due to time constraints. It’s unfortunate that an anniversary project ends up becoming mediocre since I do like BONES’s works—The Case Study of Vanitas is my favorite anime and they animated that beautifully—but this one was a miss.
I enjoyed the first five episodes but then after episode 6, the episode quality starts dropping. So many unexpected and unnecessary reveals; so many characters were introduced; a sudden liberation plot came into play. It’s really hard to keep up with the story when too many elements spoil the soup.
It also makes it hard to enjoy some of the characters. I did enjoy the characters, but it’s kind of hard to get attached to anyone not named Rouge or Naomi; though, I did like Ash and Noid—I kind of wished they were built up a bit more. For example, Grauphon was an Immortal 9 member but I knew nothing about him to care. The best character and the most underutilized was the drifter granny from Episode 2. She needed to be in the show more.
Though, the writing choices did make it hard to enjoy some characters. Like, why did Naomi have to betray Rouge and then reveal that she’s a Nean created by the Visitors. Like, why is everyone not named Ash a Nean? Jean is half-Nean and we’re not even sure how Neans can reproduce if they’re mass-produced like smart phones.
I did enjoy the animation and music. The dramatic music reminded me of sci-fantasy RPGs like Xenoblade and I feel like some songs here could fit in Xenoblade or Star Ocean given the similar settings. The animation was fluid, especially with the mecha fights. The fights were what made the show shine. I really liked the opening song, though. It felt like listening to 90’s anime openings.
The anime got a great cast of voice actors, but not having a great story or plot sort of ruins it. I liked Tomoyo Kurosawa as Naomi and Yui Ogura and Jill/Sylvia but why did they have to be in this rather mediocre show? They all rocked in terms of performances, but this anime is one of the cases where the voice acting, animation and music are great, but everything else isn’t.
I feel like I’m ranting, which I deserve to after enduring 13 weeks of this show. I heard that there will be a manga adaptation for this show, so I hope that it expands the lore more because the anime fumbled hard with consistency. Would I recommend this show to anyone? Nope. There are better sci-fi/mecha shows out there and with better story, so don’t waste your time with this one.

With a Resounding "Yes", It's Time for Paranormasight VA Headcanons!
I'm going to be an oddball and switch between Japanese & English VAs when I find it relevant. Also my order's gonna be based on how strongly I think the headcanon works. I'll also try to provide examples for the angle I'm going for
let's a go
Tumblr media
Tetsuo Tsutsumi Japanese: Option 1 - Akio Otsuka (Executioner from Akudama Drive). Option 2 - Jouji Nakata (Osvald from Octopath Traveler 2) English: Option 1 - Jamieson Price (Malik Caesar from Tales of Graces F). Option 2 - Jason Douglas (Kishibe from Chainsaw Man)
Middle aged men characters are my specialty so really it depends on the delivery you want. Richard Epcar (Ace from 999) could also work for English as well as Bill Butts (Ciocolotta from Jojo part 5)
Tumblr media
Makoto Ashimiya/Fumichika Nejima Japanese: Kenjiro Tsuda (Ogata from Golden Kamuy...and also Kishibe from Chainsaw Man). Katsuyuki Konishi could also be a good example but I can't really think of an old man character. I guess Takehito Koyasu could also work? But like this is THE most TsudaKen looking motherfucker I've ever seen English: Joe J. Thomas (Nobunaga Hazama from Hunter x Hunter). His "So I did" line really cemented this casting choice tbh.
Tumblr media
Richter Kai Japanese: Shiniciro Miki (Kisuke Urahara from Bleach) English: For this, it depends again on the delivery you want. I originally wanted Doug Erholz (maybe not like Vega from Street Fighter), but upon closer inspection, Ray Chase (Uzui Tengen from Demon Slayer) might be a better pick.
Tumblr media
Harue Shigima English: Laura Post (Empress from A Hat in Time) Japanese: Kikuko Inoue (Rhea from Fire Emblem Three Houses)
It just works, it just works~
Tumblr media
Shogo Okiie English: Chris Hackney (Yuito from Scarlet Nexus) Japanese: Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Noctis from Final Fantasy 15)
Standard older protagonist
Tumblr media
Jun Erio Japanese: Kaito Ishikawa (Noe from Case Study of Vanitas or Iida from My Hero Academia) English: Griffin Burns (Doppio from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure). Zeno Robinson (Akira from Zom 100) would also work great!
An excitable character that I think can work great with the right delivery.
Tumblr media
Takumi Yumioka Japanese: Toshiyuki Morikawa (Yoshikage Kira from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) English: Ben Lepley (Gouto from 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim)
I feel like a flat delivery that still has an air of intimidation would work best for him.
Tumblr media
Mayu Chozawa English: Option 1 - Tara Sands (Sonya from Fire Emblem Echoes); Option 2 - Cristina Vee (Velvet from Tales of Berseria). Amanda C. Miller (Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon) is also a good pick along with Heather Gonzalez (Cherche from Fire Emblem Heroes) Japanese: Miyuki Sawashiro (Kyoko Honda from Fruits Basket). Nana Mizuki could also work, though I sadly can't think of a role off the top of my head
Going for the woman who grew up a punk vibe
Tumblr media
Yutaro Namigaki Japanese: Jun Fukuyama (Draluc from Vampire Dies in No Time) English: It's tempting to put Xander Mobus for the total Joker Persona 5 duology but ehhhhh. It depends on the delivery again. Brian Beacock (Luthier from Fire Emblem Echoes) or Steve Staley (Hubert from Tales of Graces F) could also work tbh. Maybe Lucien Dodge (Waver Velvet from Fate/Zero)
Tumblr media
Ayame Touno English: Faye Mata (Amame from AI: The Somnium Files) Japanese: Rie Kugimiya (Rise from Persona 4)
The voices contrast each other, but I think each one compliments the kind of character Ayame is.
Tumblr media
Storyteller Japanese: Hochu Otsuka (Tsurumi from Golden Kamuy) English: TBD
Here's where I'm starting to think about 1 solid casting and kinda improvising for the second one. I think the Storyteller changes voices depending on the mask they wear, so for this old man mask, an old man they shall sound like.
Tumblr media
Michiyo Shiraishi English: Xanthe Huynh (Marianne from Fire Emblem Three Houses) Japanese: Aya Endo (Miyuki from Lucky Star)
Few lines for such a sweet gal
Tumblr media
Yakko Sakazaki English: Abby Trott (Older Annette from Fire Emblem Three Houses). For some reason I also pictured Cassandra Lee Morris (Tomi Kisaragi from 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim) Japanese: Marina Inoue (Female Protagonist from Persona 3 Portable)
Spunky young lady, ain't she?
Tumblr media
Mio Kurosuzu English: Amber Connor (Faye from Fire Emblem Echoes) Japanese: Rie Murakawa (Est from Fire Emblem Echoes)
Young but calm & sweet
Tumblr media
Yoko Fukunaga English: Cherami Leigh (Patty from Soul Eater) Japanese: Saori Hayami (Yor from Spy x Family)
Not related to casting but I think she and Ayame would be weird girl besties and I love that for them
Tumblr media
Hideiki Araishi English: Patrick Seitz (there's a specific role in mind that sounds similar to Mama from AI: The Somnium Files but naaah that doesn't sound right) Japanese: Tomokazu Sugita (sadly can't think of a role off the top of my head)
He's a bit of a snob so something a bit arrogant works best
Tumblr media
Kohei Jounichi Japanese: Here's where I think Katsuyki Konishi would fit best (Koito from Golden Kamuy comes to mind, oddly). Makoto Furukawa (why did I think Ronaldo from Vampire Dies in No Time??) could also work English: I think this will depend on the delivery. Do you want him more cowardly? I kinda see David Vincent tbh (Henri from Iruma-kun)
Tumblr media
Hajime Yoshimi English: He could be another potential Patrick Seitz role, but I want to avoid double casting as much as possible. Japanese: Subaru Kimura (Todo from Jujutsu Kaisen)
Tumblr media
Hitomi Okuda Japanese: Ai Farouz (Jolyne Kujo from JJBA) English: Option 1 - Laura Stahl (Alear from Fire Emblem Engage); Option 2 - Erica Mendez (can't think of a role off the top of my head)
Once again going for toughness, but from a younger angle
aaaand I think that's all the voiced characters! Some roles I had to think up of on the spot, so I might come back and revisit this, but I'm open for suggestions as well!
