My own country is discouraged from celebrating its own inventions and innovators.
“BuT thEY WEre bRiTisH¡ thEY DOn’t cOunT!”
It’s been drilled into the heads of many Irish people that we’re somehow inherently inept and can’t do anything right. (The British would be SO proud!)
And they believe that shite like it’s holy writ!
Sickening stuff.
It doesn’t help that a lot of stupid British people believe it too thanks to the stereotypes.
“YoU CAN’t inVent ANYthinG eXcEpT exPLOSives aND ALcohoL¿!” Oh do shit off.

i finished reading the book and, no offence, i truly do not understand what people hated to much about zendaya's chani compared to book chani. i'm sorry but the entire time she was giving go girl give us nothing.
it was like...paul had some visions > they met and get to know each other for like three 3 seconds > she kisses his cheek > [time skip] > they now have a son but we do not get any info beyond a name > she miracously knows whats wrong with him and revives him from the water of life > their son is killed andthe only thing she thinks of is how this might negatively impact paul > she's super understanding and fine with the fact that paul is gonna marry another woman

No actually, was anyone gonna say that Zionism is a primarily Jewish movement that started because of how deeply hated Jewish people have been throughout history or was I , a white British woman, meant to just not raise eyebrows at everyone comparing it to Nazism?
(I’m talking about non Jewish people making that comparison to Jewish people and the Zionist movement, not how Israel’s treatment of Palestine is so horrific that holocaust survivors are calling it out to be clear)

so me and Sam FINALLY watched the last season of Capaldi's Who
and tell me how, after literally over a decade and for perhaps the first time in his fucking career, Steven Moffat wrote a not just tolerable but really actually good two-parter and fully stuck the landing. like the editing and pacing were still a bit off but the storyline was original, fun, interesting and emotionally invested, and most importantly, rather than ending on a damp fart or the most furious autofellatio in history, the final part didn't fumble it and ended in a way that felt emotionally satisfying and like it made sense for the characters. like the last time he successfully wrapped up a multiparter in a way that didn't feel cheap and hollowly disappointing to me was literally The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, and a) that was in 2005 and b) tbh The Doctor Dances is about a tenth as compelling and memorable as The Empty Child.
so after 12 years of either hackery or great ideas that fall apart in the second act, Steven Moffat writes what I would genuinely consider to be a memorable Good Doctor Who serial. it ends with bittersweet pathos, a solid closer for all the main characters, and sends Moffat's showrunning career out on a genuine high despite failing ratings and budget cuts (and the fact Doctor Who hasn't been consistently good since about 2009). good job Steve. with grudging respect I admit you pulled it out of the bag on this one.
wait what's this there's one more episode left? and it stars Mark Gatiss? and you literally spend the whole episode inexplicably just shitting all over the legacy of Doctor Who by inventing a version of the First Doctor that bears literally no resemblance to the character that William Hartnell actually played, just so you can spend the whole episode saying misogynistic things to run yourself off to how much more Totally Feminist your version was than the version you made up in your head of what Doctor Who was like in the 60s? and it added literally nothing to the season except to take all the wind out of the sails of the actually good finale you already wrote?
even when he writes a good episode this fucker still finds ways to disappoint me.

so there was this pub, the crooked house or the siden house, where im from that was kinda famous for being the "wonkiest pub in britain". its been there since 1765 (it was originally a farmhouse) and let me tell you, the inside was some of the coolest shit ive seen. it was fucking bostin.
but four days ago, it burnt down. now its nothing but rubble, and its being treated as an arson for the investigation.
and just,,, im so gutted. i have that kind of sadness where you feel empty inside because this was our pub. we're an impoverished area and a lot of our country laughs at us for the way we speak, but we're proud of our local culture and history.
honestly the siden house represented us; we're a little wonky bunch with our dialect the most close to old english and banding together like misfits in a movie.
but now its just gone. its one of the few tranklements of our history we get to hold and its just fucking gone, at someones hand. it was probably new developer who just bought it because its the cheapest way to clear a lot.
and i ay even angry at whoever it was, im just sad. as a brit, i hold no pride for my country and the history of it. but i am a proud yam yam, and right now, it just hurts.

That brendan dipshit always treats geopolitical events as a joke and never shuts the fuck up. I remember him having to leave tumblr for a bit after getting major backlash for linking a rickroll and saying it's a livecam of Russia invading Ukraine because he believed the invasion wouldn't happen. He's a white boy way too obsessed with smugly owning the libs.
what a stupid asshole i honestly just cant imagine how it feels to be an indigenous american right now watching the people who settled YOUR land being so smug and self-righteous because i guess they think what happened to your people is over now and its fine. tbh ive always been saying horseshoe theory isnt real but it is real exclusively for white men lol if youre a white man whose politics are motivated largely by the pursuit of the righteous rush you get from feeling like you have the moral upper hand then whats the difference between u and any other man like that

Hey hey you guys. Did you know that many Egyptians have the genes of blonde hair and blue eyes? Did you know other people in the world from completely different races and continents have blue eyes? Or blonde hair? Did you know associating very specific features to a thing you hate and calling it ugly is mean to not just every person who has it but also every fan who could be looking forward to something exciting?

@allstrangekreachers "the commonwealth is a force for good" Okay explain this picture from 2012 then lol
I am begging you to learn about your own country's history. I don't care if the royals don't have political power (they do. They absolutely do. Queen lizzie had over 160 immunities from various laws including anti-discrimination), they still profit from colonisation and haven't returned any of the art, jewels or artefacts from other countries that they PRIVATELY own. If they are going to happily profit off of blood money and let themselves be carried aloft by subjects of a country they have no right to - they are colonisers. And just shitty in general. Unlearn your country's brainwashing.

my post about the new protest laws in the uk is now at like 6k notes and some things ive noticed from all the notes:
a lot of americans seem to think that theyre the only people who have even thought about revolting against an english/british monarch; the amount of "take notes from us" tags is baffling. please look up bonfire night my guy.
many people seem to think it is only about the coronation and charles; it is not and i state that in the post. its even in italics
many people seem to think i also think that; again, i point out that its not exclusive to the monarchy in the post
there are some interesting people who want to gotcha my informative post by being like "well the technical definition of x is" when its like okay dude youre not wrong, but maybe you should go talk to people irl more djskkdwld
a lot of peoples first reference to successfully overthrowing a monarchy is the french revolution
theres a couple of people who equate the british government with all british people which yeah, theres always that, but its kinda weird to see it on an informative post about laws suppressing the rights of british people?
my definition of long post is very different to many people
to the like three people who tagged stuff like ''throw petrol bombs at him'' ''in minecraft'' or ''as a joke''. you dont need the second part, youre on tumblr, you can just say you want to lob a molotov cocktail at charles.
i want to lob a molotov cocktail at charles.
