"…I think they might be a bit tight on your big hairy mitts. Though Ciara certainly wasn't complaining about them. Oh no, you got quite the five star review, darling. And she's had plenty to compare you with."
Tom Burke, Holliday Grainger, and Kadiff Kirwan as Cormoran Strike, Robin Ellacott, and Guy Somé in The Cuckoo's Calling, Part 3 (2017)
As we’ve been working our way through The Running Grave week by week, we’ve noticed that it can sometimes be a bit tricky to keep track of the huge cast of characters who lived at Chapman Farm over the decades—and we’ve heard from our listeners that many of you have the same problem!
So, we decided to put together a timeline of every important character who resided at Chapman Farm (or Forgeman Farm, as it was previously known) in the time span relevant to The Running Grave. The infographic below shows the complete timeline: who was at Chapman Farm, when, and for how long, as well as the important events that occurred there.
We hope you enjoy - big shoutout to Pools for putting this together!
This is the second part. Link to the first part at the end.
The Cuckoo's Calling - Chapter 2
Holland Park Avenue to Denmark Street
Leaving Holland Park we enter what I imagine Charlotte regards as the slum neighborhood of Notting Hill.
Now. I think it's time we deal with the elephant in the room. We assume Strike decides to walk to his office in Denmark Street as this is the cheapest method of travel and his finances are dire. But ...
Just get on the night bus, Strike, you bloody drama llama! You'll be in Tottenham Court Road quicker than you can say Freedom Pass.
It's good he didn't because it's a beautiful morning and I need a walk. Notting Hill Gate becomes Bayswater Road, which always reminds me of Bella, Max, Honey, Bernie and William squeezed in a car arguing about the route in Notting Hill, while Anna Scott is about to get on an aeroplane and leave forever, and also Rhys Ifans calling Hugh Grant "You daft prick" which I am sure is a sentiment many will share.
There's loads of good stuff along here. A convent, the building that housed the Oranjhaven, a statue of the 12th Earl of Meath, who stuck with the name Reginald even though he was an earl with his own plinth and could presumably have afforded something better.
But we're in character so we can't look at any of that. No, we are heartbroken at the demise of our relationship with a woman, which we ended because she's not apparently pregnant with the child we didn't want (I am being tongue-in-cheek, so don't @ me 🤡).
Actually I did wander off because I wanted to know about the church that was mostly demolished due to the ravages of mould. They don't make mould like they used to.
Strike won't have noticed we've reached a nice-looking pub and sign of better days to come. Chin up, Corm. Nearly Robin-o'clock! 😁
[ID: Cormoran sits in a restaurant, a laden plate with a rice dish in front of him. He’s wearing a light blue shirt and a dark blue blazer. He looks at someone sitting opposite with a mild frown on his beardy face./end ID]
Jago Ross; in every respect the antithesis of Strike: handsome in the manner of an Aryan prince, possessor of a trust fund, born to fulfill a preordained place in his family and the world; a man with all the confidence twelve generations of well-documented lineage can give. He had quit a succession of high-flying jobs, developed a persistent drinking problem, and was vicious in the manner of an overbred, badly disciplined animal.
In this week's episode, we finally get to the chapter that is one of our favorites and contains some of JK Rowling's most beautiful and powerful writing yet.

Recently had a blast in London with some lovely Strikophiles. Took lots of pictures and thought I would share here the ones where I can remember why I took them. 😂 I will add book quotes as time permits. Please correct me if you think I am wrong because it was a full day.
Last few ... and it's "all pubs".
The Ship and Shovell, Craven Passage
Aptly named ... Strike follows Wally Cardew and Thurisaz here and twats the latter in the gents, in The Ink Black Heart.
The Two Chairman, Dartmouth Street
Robin and Strike meet here after Robin successfully bugs Della Winn's office in Lethal White. After the year of frostiness, their relationship is warming, but Robin leaves suddenly when Strike asks, "You're liking Raff, then?"
The Feathers, Broadway, Westminster
Multiple meetings happen at this pub - in The Cuckoo's Calling, Career of Evil and Troubled Blood. There's a neat account of them all here
When when you were reading the cuckoos calling, what the moments that made you go “I love Cormoran Strike”?
I don't think i went full "I love Strike" before Silkworm.
Maybe it's because I saw the adaptation of TCC first (tbh i didn't planned on reading the series before the whole drama around Troubled Blood) but i found it rather formulaic.
Silkworm is really when I got attached to the characters and where JKR's style started to shine. Then with CoE I was hooked (I like serial killer stories lol).
