Following up on this post: If Eric says Nick's call is a ghost signal and leaves him behind, Nick doesn't holds on tight.
For comparison, when Jason tells him to hang tight, Nick does that by securing his legs on the Ancient Warrior. This doesn't happen if Jason doesn't reach out to Nick (If Eric ignores the call). Nor does Nick last as long.
This confirms without Jason, Nick wouldn't have fought so hard to stay alive and allow the group to arrive on time and save him. Which confirms Nick didn't have the fight in him until he heard Jason's voice, assuring Nick that he's coming.

He walks stealthily, watching carefully so as not to be ambushed by the impostor.And then he ends up bumping into someone causing them both to fall...

Jason - Gotcha! Impost-Joey? Are you the impostor?
Joey - Oh? No! Of course not, I was just running because I saw a strange figure and decided to run...
Jason - It makes sense, but it's not good to be separated at a time like this...

Jason - accordingly.
Taking the warning megaphone and placing it on the body before he can do so, a large tongue grabs his arm making him scream and throws him away.
Jason - JOEY! OH SHIT...
??? - Hello Jason. Forgive me for the bad manners of throwing your friend away. But know that now you will die.
Jason - That...isn't... Possible... It's really you... Salim!
Salim - Salim?? I think you forgot one little thing haha... I'm a shapeshifter, remember?

She then throws a knife towards Jason but a shield forces it and throws it away, protecting him.
Rachel - What the fuck?
Ghost Dar -It worked! My shield worked. Urg, I can't believe that this crap actually works... It wasn't as useless as I thought...
Rachel - It won't save you forever...
Her eyes become dark and her nails grow longer, her skin becomes pale and her tongue grows considerably...
RACHEL - Now no one will save you from me!
She holds him by the neck with her wide tongue choking him. But before she can kill him, Salim appears, dropping a load on her head, which ends up throwing Jason to the other side of the map.
Rachel - Are you turning against me after I helped you? Now I will teach you to have good manners!!
Salim - Well... can we solve it in other way?
And with one blow she hits Salim's leg, hurting him,Who stumbles and ends up falling.
Salim - ouch! I don't think so! But it won't be now that we die...
On the other side, Jason is thrown towards the greenhouse, hitting the floor, causing it to crack. Joey who had also been thrown there was waking up from his faint.
Jason - Don't get up! If any of us get up, the greenhouse will collapse!
Joey - Huh? But what are we going to do? Shall we walk on all fours?
Jason - It's a good idea!
Joey - I was just kidding! I don't think this will work...
Jason - But we must try something anyway this will collapse!
Joey - Can we try getting up slowly? I think it might work...
Jason - Okay, let's try, but if we fail here, We're going to fly like chickens!
Joey - I must be laying eggs to be a chicken...
Jason - if the game depended on us everyone would be dead by now.
Joey - Technically everyone is, with the exception of Salim and Nick.
Jason - and you and me!
Joey - Well, in a way we're not alive...
Jason - Be more optimistic! Now enough nonsense and let's finish this bitch!
Joey - I'm already up!
Jason - What?? I just closed my eyes for a second...
Joey - Now that we are up, what will we do?
Rachel - Get on the floor!
Joey - What? I just got up-
Rachel then gives a huge kick making the floor crack completely...
Jason - This can't be good...
Suddenly the floor breaks completely causing Joey and Jason to fall.
Jason Is not the impostor!
Joey is not The impostor!
Rachel - Now let's finish with Salim! WHERE DID HE GO? ahh you can't go that far Salim, with this trail of blood here hahaha...
Salim - Shit that was close... I'm glad she believed, she thinks I'm dumb enough to leave a trail of myself knowing she would chase me...
He slowly gets up for a second to observe his injury and continues walking on the opposite side...He finally arrives at the cafeteria...
Nick - Stop right there!
Salim - Huh? I oh damn...
Nick - Wait, if you're all fucked up then you're not supposed to be the impostor, right? You wouldn't be able to hurt yourself just to play innocent if that's the case then who is the (Real) impostor?
Salim - Oh...Rachel! She killed everyone, she was the one who attacked me! And she attacked Jason and Joey! And she killed the rest of us!, She's the impostor!
Nick - Was I wrong all along then?... I'm sorry then for accusing you...
Salim - Okay, this game is about accusation and execution! We can still save the game!
Nick - You are sure!
before anything happens Rachel appears impaling salim in the belly. Blood starts to flow and he falls on top of Nick, already dead.
Rachel - And I WON!
Nick - No, why?..
Rachel - It wasn't supposed to end, I already killed everyone... Do I have to kill you too??
Nick - I don't know... but calm down!!
rachel - SHUT UP!
the cafeteria windows break with a bang and a knife is thrown at demon Rachel who throws herself back.
RACHEL - HOW ARE YOU ALIVE??
Jason - When you threw us, Joey's leg got caught in a rope. And since I'm not stupid or anything, we used that to get back here!
RACHEL - HOW DARE YOU CHALLENGE ME??? I WILL DESTROY YOU!!
Rachel gets up and jumps close to them, Jason manages to dodge and runs close to the table, Joey jumps into the room with a grenade in his hands...
Jason - Why did you take so long?
Joey - Hey, it takes a while to get up, okay?? my God..
Nick - Guys, she's still here!!
Joey - Relax, I have it here!Take This!
RACHEL - A GRENADE?? Unbelievable...
A big explosion Making Rachel demon catch fire The floor starts to crack and parts of the cafeteria will start to fall.
Nick - Bad idea!!!
Rachel keeps struggling and everything starts to catch fire, and the floor starts to fall.. But before everything falls apart Joey presses the button.
Nick - Everything froze...
Jason - It's because we're in an emergency meeting It's impossible for us to die... brilliant!
Joey - She's fine?

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
RING: Eric King x fem!reader
Summary: The Colonel isn't wearing his ring anymore - she wants to know why.
Notes: English isn't my first language. I apologize for any mistake I made while I wrote this short story.
This story has been in my drafts since December, because for some reason I couldn't find the motivation to finish it. Now it's finally done, and it's my gift to all the people out there who still think about Eric King and House of Ashes - like I do.
Warnings: nothing, just pure fluff

She didn't know when the sudden change happened - not for sure. The only thing she noticed was that last week Eric King was still wearing his wedding ring on a necklace around his neck, but this week it wasn't there. It was missing. No necklace, no ring.
If she wanted to be honest curiousity was slowly eating her away, but she didn't dare to ask the reason for this change. She wanted to and she knew she could calmly ask, because Eric wasn't a man driven by anger. It was just the timing... There wasn't a single moment this week when she could make some small talk with the man and then ask the reason for the missing jewellery.
After Caelus' success came the fuss around the briefing what was about to take place in Camp Slayer a former palace in Iraq. And of course the success made the man happier than ever - and he deserved to be happy, because he was working on the software for years. Therefore it really wasn't the right moment to go and snoop around. The briefing on the other hand made him nervous, but after he made sure she'll be the one to accompany him to Iraq, he seemed to calm down a bit.
Her relationship with the Colonel was not the kind others would expect from the two of them. Their friendship was too close and unprofessional from time to time to be fully accepted - and the military men and women seemed to think she was just trying to climb up higher through the Colonel. So because of that they were professional whenever others were around, but when they were able to get a few minutes for themselves they were happy to call the other by their first name and talk about whatever they wanted to.
When the day to go to Camp Slayer came, they were alone in Eric's office to get everything they'll need. There was still half an hour left until departure so they were looking around the room calmly, not wanting to leave anything important behind.
Now that she was alone with the man she couldn't keep her curiousity to herself. Her palm was itching to know the truth and her throat felt dry as she kept herself back from talking.
"You don't wear your ring anymore." the sentence came out of her mouth before she could stop herself.
"I'm sorry?" Eric asked as he turned around to look at her.
"I'm sorry if it's too personal, but- I noticed that you don't wear the necklace with the- you know, ring on it." she tried to avoid his gaze, but he made sure she looked at him as he walked towards her.
"Yes, I thought it was time to get rid of it."
She looked him in the eye with confusion on her face. "But why?"
"You know about my relationship with Rachel. You know how it is and how rocky it has become." he explained. "I thought it was about time to really put an end to it."
She looked up at him to examine his features, but the attempt was unsuccessful. She completely froze and her mind was trying to answer the question why - why now? -, so she was unable to process what she was seeing.
Did they talk about it? Did he find someone else?
Her heart slightly ached at the thought. He didn't say anything about meeting someone or getting close to someone. They were friends, weren't they? He would have told her, right?
"I see." she said after a while not daring to ask around more, afraid that she'll get an answer what will hurt her deeply.
"I didn't think you'd notice."
"Why wouldn't I?" she asked with a confused expression. "I know you well."
"Yeah, you do."
The silence sat in again and she put a few important documents in Eric's briefcase. As she rearranged the remaining papers on his desk, she noticed that he didn't get back to work.
"Are we ready to go?" she asked and looked up at him again.
"I think we'll get a divorce. Rachel and I." he started, finding his strength to get everything he wanted to say off of his chest.
"Right, that explains the ring I guess."
"Not exactly. I think I found someone who helped me get through Rachel and the accident and-"
"Oh." she looked away from him, doing her best to process what he was saying.
He found someone else. Someone he didn't tell her about. Someone she didn't know. For a moment she had to think about what hurt more: that he found a love interest or that he didn't tell her about it?
Eric has always been her anchor and she was sure he felt the same about her. Even when things got hard to get through, they still had the other to lighten the mood or to say something funny (or in his case - nerdy) what made the sadness in the air disappear. They were great together - great friends, great soldiers... So why can't he be honest with her?
"Well, I'm happy you found someone Colonel."
"- and I was wondering if you'd like to go on a date with me after we come back from the briefing and after we solve everything with Rachel."
Now that was something new and unexpected.
She blinked a few times, trying to process what he just said. Dating? They'll go on a date? They think about the other as something more?
She thought about all the times they spent together, about all the times her friends teased her about the Colonel - maybe they do have something more than pure friendship.
"A date?" she asked and a smiled formed on her face.
She was about to continue, but there was a knock on the door.
"Colonel? Are you ready to go? The chopper is here."
"I'll be out in a moment. Thank you."
Getting back to reality was harsh. She didn't want to go, she wanted to continue this conversation, she wanted to quickly finish the briefing so they can finally go out on that date.
"We should go." Eric said, his voice full of disappointment.
She didn't like how he sounded. She didn't like how his smile disappeared and how his shoulders seemed tense.
"I'd love to." she said quickly. "I'd love to go out on that date- if it's okay..."
"After the briefing?" he asked, not letting her finish what her inner insecurities wanted her to say.
"Sure, after the briefing. And after you and Rachel sorted things out."
Before leaving the room, Eric gently put his hands on her shoulders and pressed a kiss to her forehead. It was careful and unsure, but it was a great promise.
A promise she hoped he won't break.

Hot take: Instead of Nick Kay being Rachel’s side guy, it should’ve been either Jason, Merwin, or Joey
As much as I love the game, the Eric-Rachel-Nick love triangle just didn’t land for me. I get what the game was trying to do, but the conflict itself wasn’t that well thought out. For me, the real conflict was whether or not Rachel would take Eric back, not if she would choose Nick over him. Nick never came off as a serious love interest, especially when you consider they were only dating for a few weeks and Nick’s character arc is more about his PTSD.
And really, the love triangle isn’t even a major plot point in some playthroughs since both Rachel and Eric could die before Act 3. You could literally finish the game without resolving the love triangle in a meaningful way. Unless you consider death a reasonable ending for the triangle?
Personally, I would’ve dropped the love triangle and focused on Eric and Rachel working through their marital problems, as well as Nick coming to terms with his PTSD. But if I HAD to keep the affair storyline in some way, I’d pair Rachel up with either Jason, Merwin, or Joey.
For Jason, I feel the love triangle fits more with him than with Nick. Jason is literally introduced as the stereotypical right wing, alpha male douchebag, it’s easy to imagine someone like him chasing after Rachel. And the thing is, you wouldn’t have to alter his storyline with Salim that much if he’s the side guy. You could say that him starting an affair with Rachel is another example of his douchebaggery, so he gets a chance to grow as a person through his journey with Salim. Of course, Jason is even less believable as a long-term love interest for Rachel, but the point shouldn’t be if Rachel chooses him over Eric in the first place. It should be if Rachel decides to stay with Eric and if Jason grows as a person.
For Merwin and Joey, since both of them are scripted to die, you keep the love triangle storyline but in a way that it’s not that integral to the game. Rachel ends up losing her side guy, but still has to decide whether she’ll stay with Eric. Nick’s arc becomes solely focused on his PTSD, and Jason and Salim stay the same.

You never shy away from reminding him that you have the same exact training and skill set and that he needn't worry about you

He knows that he doesn't need to grow a boulder in the pit of his stomach every time you're out of his sight, he knows you can hold your own better than well
But he can't freaking help it
Oh and God forbid you ever sustain an injury
You'd downplay the hell out of it while he'd lose his goddamn mind, creating a caricature of a sight for the rest of the team
"I'm fine, it's just a scratch."
"Are you crazy? You could die!"
When the tables flip, the roles reverse so you can't blame him for acting the way he does when you're the exact same way if you see as much as a drop of blood on his uniform
Basically, every mission you give the whole team a small comedy show amidst the mess of a mission you've landed yourselves in, earning you and Jason more than a few jokes and teases
The most frequent one being: "You two are married couple without the papers."
It's true
An official marriage would be nothing more than a formality at this point
A couple of signed papers will make no difference
What does matter is all the times you've caught each other's affectionate gazes from across the room or the mission ground; all the times when you'd come to following a nasty injury, asking for the other before you could give a damn about your own state; all the times your heart's sunken at the sight of the other hurt and all the times your heart would start racing when you get reunited after a separation during the expedition
That's what matters - experiencing the truest form of love

Can I just... take my little 5:30 in the morning brain and just... fucking explain how much I viscerally hate the whole 3 way marital dispute going on in HOA?
Don't get it twisted, I know it adds to characters and adds tension that can make or break things or even kill people and all that... fancy shit... There is totally a place for the story line that is not my issue, but my God does it make me want to grind my fucking teeth in to a fine powder that I can snort!!
It is so overdone in my opinion, every other conversation between Eric, Racheal or Nick has something to do with that fucking love triangle and its just not worth it after awhile. It was interesting at the start, I mean our first introduction to Rach and Nick was them trying get down to pound town then OH SHIT Nick the husband is showing up and that was actually kind of interesting and I can partially get behind that... Its when it drags this dead horse down in to the ruins that fucks me up!!!
