2023 Favourites

In no particular order. This is content I've read and watched in 2023, not necessarily content released in 2023.

Books

1. Notorious Sorcerer by Davinia Evans: fantasy with some m/m. The protagonist travels to other planes for alchemical ingredients and ends up having to learn greater workings. I love the Byzantine vibe of the worldbuilding.

2. The Daughters of Izdihar by Hadeer Elsbai: fantasy with some f/f. Two women, a waterweaver and an earthweaver, join a women's rights movement. I love the Egyptian-inspired worldbuilding.

3. Reforged by Seth Haddon: m/m fantasy. This King/Paladin novel has a surprising plot. The magic system is very original as well, I especially like the music part of it.

4. The Buried and the Bound by Rochelle Hassan: urban fantasy with some m/m (YA). The hedgewitch protecting the town teams up with a boy cursed to forget his true love and another one trapped as a bondservant.

5. [Spanish] Lazos de Sangre by LR Jeffers: m/m urban fantasy (erotica). This is a series about werewolves and big cat shifters, usually angsty and hot.

6. [French] Meute by Karine Rennberg: urban fantasy with some m/m + another protagonist is aroace and uses sign language. This is a novel about building your own werewolf pack. I think this is my first time encountering 2nd-person narration in French and it works surprisingly well.

7. Cascade by Rachel A. Rosen: science fantasy with mlm and wlw protagonists + no romance. An ecological disaster has freed magic. In Canada, the Party works with a wizard in order to try and save humanity. I love the intricacies of the plot, which skilfully mixes politics, science and magic.

8. Ocean's Echo by Everina Maxwell: m/m science fiction. Telepathy, my favourite trope, done by one of my fave authors! It was even better than I expected.

9. The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei: science fiction/murder mystery with several non-binary major characters. 80 people from all around the world embark on a one-way interstellar voyage. As they're all required to get pregnant, they're obviously afab, but several are non-binary, with mentions of a trans man.

10. Forget Me Not by Alyson Derrick: f/f romance (YA). This is a very romantic novel about two girls dating in secret until one gets amnesia. I enjoy this trope a lot.

TV shows

1. Good Omens: fantasy with queer protagonists + some f/f. I love the book and I love the adaptation. Season 2 is original content, but it's faithful to the spirit of the novel.

2. Shadow and Bone: fantasy with some m/m (YA). This successfully mixes the Shadow and Bone trilogy (that I haven't read) and the Six of Crows duology (that I have read and enjoyed).

3. Warrior Nun: fantasy with some f/f. Nuns literally fight against demons.

4. The Power: superpower fiction with some f/f + a trans woman and an intersex man. Teenage girls start developing an electrical superpower, which makes them safer from men.

5. Nü Er Hong: GL wuxia. This c-drama is a quick watch, with 27 episodes of 2 minutes. I love that these short webdramas always have more or less the same actresses.

6. The Devil Judge: dystopia/thriller with BL vibes. This k-drama has a tight plot and fascinating characters. There's a girl in a wheelchair and the rep is well done.

7. Naughty Babe: BL romance/murder (attempt) mystery. This Thai drama is the sequel to Cutie Pie, except that they switched up the main pairing and the secondary pairing. I think it's possible to watch it on its own.

8. Wedding Plan: BL + GL romcom. This Thai drama has mlm-wlw solidarity, which I hope to see more of in the future. There are also cameos from the BL couples from Love in the Air.

9. Oh! My Assistant: BL romcom. This hilarious k-drama is about a het porn webtoon creator and his assistant. Despite this topic, the drama is not explicit.

10. Welcome to the Lesbian Bar: GL contemporary fiction. This k-drama is a quick watch, with 5 episodes of 6 minutes. In each episode, 2 customers come have a drink and chat with the owner.

Movies

1. Barbie: fantasy that is so gender! This was such a big surprise coming from Hollywood.

2. Nimona: fantasy with a protagonist who is a trans/enby allegory + some m/m (YA). I haven't read the graphic novel, so this was more depressing than I expected (it deals a lot with discrimination), but still an excellent movie.

3. Wingwomen (Voleuses in the original French): action movie with a sapphic protagonist + f/f vibes between the other two. I love heist movies all about women.

4. Kill Bok-soon: action movie with some f/f. This Korean movie has interesting cinematography. Note that it's very violent, though.

5. Red, White & Royal Blue: m/m romcom. I love the book and I love the adaptation.

6. Anything's Possible: m/f romance with a trans female protagonist (YA). This is a very positive movie, about love, art and nature.

7. Fanfic: m/m romance with a trans male protagonist (YA). This Polish movie is sometimes dark, sometimes fun.

feeling guilty for giving Kane so much trauma that I keep making more people immortal so he doesn’t have to suffer so much and in turn realizing I left behind my only character who was initially supposed to survive in the first draft (so sorry, stitches) so now I have to go write about that whole mess

How the fuck does time even work in the relicverse like obviously ive vaguely worked it out but the demiurge just being able to pluck people from the stream of time as he pleases and characters who persist through multiple series due to immortality really fucks with everything in a way where i have to sit down sometime and properly hash out an ultimately meaningless timeline because i’m not sure any of the relicverse is ever going to get released (bar i am gary. bar alejandro. bar in shadows. bar the insiders youtube shorts. Okay. Maybe some of it will)

i just kind of feel like my cute little universe has turned into something so monstrous it’s impossible to think about anyone else wrangling it so i just keep feeding it more and more to be self indulgent because literally no one is hearing about these stories or characters aside from myself. tell me why the fuck mona and abraxas are working for ninestrike as planewalkers after in shadows with cronus as a provisionary shade attending the savant’s grove ball racing to steal the same relic qiyama and alejandro are after. Isn’t in shadows about some weird kid and a death god. isn’t alejandro a shitpost webtoon about trying to draw funny faces. you aren’t even supposed to know planeswalkers exist until the end of devil’s manner with Father. Until the last act of alejandro’s qiyama arc with Voxel. and why do i have the time to write about Father and his role within hundred nights who aren’t even relevant to any massive story i’ve planned out unless you want to count insiders and heavenless circulation in which they’re pretty much still just glorified set dressing

eventually at some point I’m sure I’ll be able to meet the right person to infodump about the relicverse to over the series of multiple nights and pray they will be so invested in it that we may share in its beauty eternal. that somehow sounds more feasible than actually getting all of this released in a timely manner. i’m only one girl and i’ve somehow made something fit for an entire platoon of staff

trying to focus back up on specifics here i’ve been focusing more on hundred nights lately, which i’m glad about because despite the fact I always come back around to getting super fixated on something i promised myself i eventually would, each time i’m always a little afraid i’ll never get super invested in it and have to force myself to work it out. but thankfully i’ve written enough super interesting (to me) characters into the top positions (bogdana, judge, father, prawn, chacha, etc) and their relation to their opposition who i’m invested in as well who are also fun (agenor and the 6 monsters)

however, i feel like now in contrast the planeswalker association (their main opponent) have started to seem much less exciting and i haven’t gotten around to fleshing them out as much as id like. i really have to tuck in sometime and give one or two of them really traumatic backstories or make their powers cooler. as much as i love characters like ging, metal and indus, i feel like together as a unit they haven’t truly come together enough as i would like. i’ve been thinking about throwing a member of the berezaiti clan in with them or focusing on guan liang and the greater planeswalker society to try and stir up my interest but i’m not ready to try when i’ve got my current opportunity to work on the hundred nights guild.

It’s kind of funny how little i’ve been drawing the insiders despite my undying passion and love for them, but i’ve become really satisfied with where they are right now and can just rotate them in my mind doing their daily shenanigans forever now. but in general, i’ve just been writing so so so so much shit instead of drawing lately. sorry about that. i’m a drawing account, aren’t i? thank you to the one person who reads this shitty indecipherable ramble to the end. i’m sorry you chose to read all of this!!!

I haven't read Yumi's Cells webtoon fully yet

But I know how Yumi and Babi relationship ends in the webtoon

I really wish the writers and director for season 2 handle their storyline well.

I want to enjoy their love story even knowing how they will end. I like that we will be able to fully see jinyoung in a relationship without any outside world messing with them like in his previous dramas.

There will be a time when they will just be a normal happy couple and of course they will have their usual moments of being a new couple and growing love and affection together.

Then the end will come. But it won't be in the tragic way other jinyoung romance happens like in The Devil Judge where spoiler his girl dies.

Or in He is Psychometric jinyoung had to save his girl from dying and also he was in danger. And faced trauma.

This time the love story will be more relatable to what many couples go through. I am excited for that.

– Self Recognition –

Halo perkenalkan aku ofGyuyoung, aku memerankan seorang Aktris asal Korea Selatan bernama Park Gyuyoung yang lahir pada yahun 1993.

Kali ini aku akan menceritakan tentang satu project favoritku berjudul "Sweet Home"

Serial ini bermula dari penggambaran situasi di mana dunia tiba-tiba berubah menjadi mengerikan. Manusia dapat berubah menjadi monster karena hasrat dan ambisi besar dalam diri mereka.

Beberapa gejala ditunjukkan sebelum berubah menjadi monster, mulai dari mimisan parah, perilaku yang liar berapi-api, halusinasi, hilang kesadaran, warna bola mata berubah jadi hitam, hingga akhirnya berubah menjadi monster dan mengancam nyawa manusia.

Hal tersebut bisa menimpa siapapun, baik masyarakat biasa, remaja, hingga para petinggi.

Serial ini pun fokus pada sekelompok masyarakat yang tinggal dalam gedung apartemen Green Home. Salah satunya adalah Cha Hyun-su. Ia merupakan remaja SMA yang baru pindah ke apartemen tersebut karena permasalahan keluarga. Cha Hyun-su kemudian bertemu dengan penghuni apartemen Green Home lainnya dan menghadapi serangkaian situasi pelik. Ia bahkan kini bertekad untuk menyelamatkan penghuni-penghuni lain dari serangan para monster.

Sweet Home merupakan serial hasil adaptasi webtun bertajuk serupa karya Kimcamby (Youngchan Hwang). Webtoon tersebut telah dibaca 1,2 miliar kali secara global dengan lebih dari 6 juta likes.

Sweet Home akan ada season II dan III

Aku berperan sebagai Yoon Jisu

Seorang bassist wanita yang juga tinggal di Green Home. Walau pada awalnya ia sempat shock dengan kehadiran monster yang memenuhi Green House, Yoon Jisoo merupakan sosok wanita yang pemberani yang berusaha untuk bertahan dan tetap hidup walau sekitarnya sudah berubah menjadi monster. Yoon Jisu juga memiliki watak yang keras dan tegas, ia berani mengungkapkan pendapatnya dan apa yang menurutnya benar.

Task 1

Alasan aku memilih "Sweet Home" sebagai drama favoritku. Karena ceritanya sangat menarik, cerita yang tidak umum dan penuh dengan fantasi yang tidak terduga. Monster yang ada di dalam drama ini memiliki makna dan kisah hidup masing-masing yang sebenarnya relate banget dengan kehidupan nyata kita. Pengemasan Fantasi dan dunia nyata digabung menjadi satu dalam satu cerita menurut aku sangat bagus dan berkesan.

Banyak banget pelajaran hidup yang bisa kita ambil dari drama ini. Sebenernya arti dari judul drama ini juga penuh makna banget yang pada intinya. Rumah itu sebenarnya bukan rumah tapi tempat dimana "aku" merasakan nyamannya berada diantara orang-orang yang menganggap "aku" itu keluarga.

Selain itu, aku emang suka banget sama karakterku yaitu Yoon Jisu yang tetap kuat walau terkadang rasa putus asa juga ia rasakan.

Task II

Pesan dan kesan untuk muse aku, Park Gyuyoung. Aku kagum banget sama Gyuyoung karena Gyuyoung ini emang benar-benar pekerja keras dan selalu mau belajar selain itu ia juga cerdas dan berprestasi. Gyuyoung yang awalnya debut sebagai model MV dan terus belajar menjadi aktris, Gyuyoung juga gak pernah pilih-pilih karakter, ia bisa menjadi sosok apapun dan mendalami perannya dengan baik. Aku bangga banget sama Gyuyoung yang sekarang udah semakin dikenal dan menjadi sorotan karena hasil kerja kerasnya 😭😭😭❤️
