Hi! I enjoy your headcanons. Do you have thoughts on what types of animals any of the unnamed chimeras are fused with? I personally think that the one with the gas mask could be something aquatic, blondie is a housecat, and doc is a corvid of some kind, like a magpie, but would love to hear your own thoughts on the matter.

Blondie has claws, (something else with his fingers that looks like it could be fur if you squint?? Or skin?) and sharp canines (but that might not be from the fusion) in the manga, so maybe some type of big cat? I do like the idea of him being a house-cat though :>

Luffy is just naturally very flexibel from his time in the woods/jungle and a kid top that with his Devil Fruit powers it just 20x he’s flexible abilities!!! some general one piece world building headcanons:

there is a universal language (and sign language) that pretty much everyone in the world speaks. however, some islands will also have a native language which children are also taught while growing up. it’s not uncommon for children in the one piece world to grow up multilingual because of this.

different island (and seas) have different accents and dialects, so not everything is exactly the same, but as a rule of thumb everyone can understand each other thanks to this universal language.

sea kings breed and make nests in the calm belt, which is why there is an abundance of them there, more than other seas. the females are the caretakers, so sea kings in other seas are males and sea kings to young or old to breed.

things like the ocean, moon, sun and earth are seen as living beings, something like gods to be revered. it’s believed they are alive, so it’s common practice to ask for permission to fish, give blessings to the moon when out at night, thank the earth before picking flowers etc

following on from that, someone who is seemingly disliked by nature (bad at gardening, disliked by animals) is usually seen as a bad leader and/or person, while someone who naturally very connected to nature is seen as a good leader and/or person.

before the rise of pirates, seafaring was seen as a very important and respectable job, as it was pretty much the only way for islands to be connected and trade with/communicate with other islands. in fact, seafaring has been a huge part of the one piece world since humans could travel, as islands are pretty small and isolated, so it’s the only way to get to others.

thanks to this, common phrases like have been replaced to be more ocean themed. eg: street rat = street urchin as we see sometimes in the series

a young mink’s sulong form is very hard to control, to the point they can become aggressive and even in pain a few days before and after a full moon, so they will often be isolated with only their family during this time, as it is seen as a very vulnerable time for them.

in kinda the same vain as the last one, a fish-man/mermaid’s first swim is seen as something very vulnerable and marks a huge milestone in their growth (kind of like first steps except a level up from that) so only immediate family are usually there to witness it.

devil fruit users have a hard time with any type of water so things like high humidity, rain, storms ect doesn’t negate their powers or make them necessarily weaker… but it does make them feel tired and drained.

non-human genes are mostly over human genes. people that are distant descendants of minks still have animal features like horns and animal ears and decedents of giants are freakishly tall for generations. this is why some humans have seemingly non-human features, like merry with his sheep horns.

Duchess Swan Headcanons

Her full name is Duchess Odelia Swan. Her first name is more of a title, but she’d rather go by Duchess to establish her status as a Royal. 

Duchess was raised by her paternal grandmother and holds a lot of respect for her. Her mother, the Swan Queen, lives with them too. She has a nest near the garden ponds. She doesn’t feel comfortable or worthy to live in the palace and rarely visits her daughter out of shame.

Her father isn’t in the picture. He abandoned her mother shortly after having Duchess. Duchess wanted to think that he felt guilty for dooming her mother to a life of swan-hood, but both her mom and grandmother describe him as a deadbeat. She eventually grew to hate him for not staying with them.

Duchess’s kingdom is one of the northernmost kingdoms. She’s used to colder climates and prefers winter over summer. She loved when the pond froze over so her grandmother could take her ice skating.

She’s very tall, taller than some of the boys. This is something she was always insecure about, until she started dancing. What made her feel clumsy and awkward now makes her feel graceful.

Her and Sparrow’s relationship is purely platonic. The two have vastly different personalities, lifestyles, and goals that would clash, crash, and burn any romance that might happen. 

As dirty as she’s willing to play, she does not condone cheating (That movie date with Daring didn’t count because she didn’t know he went out with Lizzie). She believes in marriage for life and cannot stand the idea of going behind a partner’s back for someone else. 

Duchess can turn into a swan at will, but she knows this is only temporary until she’s cursed to become one during the day.

She became friends with Sparrow because she knew he had resources she didn’t, like connections and semi-bouts of popularity. He went along with it so he could have the opportunity to cause mischief, and because she paid him. Other than that, most people wonder why these two are friends.

Duchess has been waiting for when the next Black Swan will come into her destiny. She doesn’t know who they are or when they’re coming, but she has a score to settle.

She mainly listens to classical music, but she also has a weakness for smooth jazz. 

She’s a pescatarian. 

She takes yoga to help with her flexibility.

(SPOILER ALERT!!!) Her mom and grandmother have been hiding something from her: she is not the Swan Queen’s daughter. The Swan Prince professed his love for the Black Swan knowing who she was and had a daughter with her. Nobody could know that he betrayed his destiny, so he left Duchess in the care of his mother and ex. Duchess grew up thinking the Swan Queen was her mother and that she was supposed to be the next Swan Princess.

My Extensive List of Backstories + Headcanons for the Devil's Nest Gang part 1: Dolcetto!

Born May 4, 1882

At the time of his death in the autumn of 1914, he was 32 years old.

His height is 5'5"

Dolcetto is his last name. He gave up his first when he joined the Nest.

His father is an Aerugonian immigrant and mechanic. His mother is from the islands surrounding Xing. She was a traveler and swordswoman for hire before settling down in South City.

He has 3 sisters-- Two older twins (born 1877) and one younger sister. (born 1887)

He was born in the southeast side of South City and grew up in a slums apartment.

He's always been short-statured and was often bullied for it as a child and teenager. He gets really annoyed when people comment on his height.

He met Martel in June 1890, when he was age 8. She helped defend him from those bullying him and quickly became his best friend. He liked her for protecting him and teaching him how to be stronger.

Upon Martel leaving for the North when he was 14, he stopped attending school as much during a period of depression. He dropped out when he was 16.

Dolcetto was drafted for the Aerugo border war at 19. In training, he met Martel again and they resumed their friendship.

Dolcetto was the one who rescued Martel after she stepped on a landmine. While he was saving her, he was shot in his spine and nearly died, thus leading to his use as a test subject.

He is trilingual, speaking and reading both of his parents' languages as well as Amestrian. He's distinctly bad at reading in Amestrian.

He has dyscalculia which has led him to dislike solving math problems and handling money.

He's trained in both judo and boxing. He hadn't done much training with swords until he'd joined the gang. He likes swords for their extensive history, the skill required to use them, because his mother was a swordswoman, and because one of his older sisters was a fencer. His current katana was a gift from Greed, though he collects additional antique swords.

Cooking is one of his biggest passions, partially thanks to both of his parents having been fantastic cooks who'd taught him. He's especially invested in Aerugonian cuisine and particularly likes hand-making pasta and noodles.

His favorite smells are lavender, sandalwood, rose, and tomatoes. The former two originate from his mother using lots of lavender incense when he was a child.

Martel cuts his hair. She's the only one that he trusts to do it.

He's prone to depression and anxiety, and the main way to alleviate both for him is to constantly stay working. Unfortunately, all of those contribute to his insomnia.

His favorite drink is espresso and his favorite food is udon.

He's a complete snob about tobacco and refuses to smoke cigarettes unless they're his only choice. The first thing that he bought for himself when he got settled into the Nest was his favorite kiseru.

He takes after his father and is very mechanically minded. Whenever anything needs to be fixed in the Nest, they bring it to him and he can fix it very quickly.

He loves cars and working on them, but he also has developed a significant fear of them that's probably caused by the dog genes.

He likes to help Bido with gardening, work out with Martel, dance with Greed, and play shogi with Roa.

He's an incredibly lightweight drinker. He also gets terrible hangovers and has a tendency to be incredibly emotionally volatile when drunk, often crying or ranting to Martel.

He has lots of scars, most notable of which are the ones from knife training with Martel that line his arms and burn scars on his ribs from torture. He also still has scars from being shot in the spine.

He regularly gets overstimulated from sounds and smells, so he's gotten used to figuring out his sensory limits.

He instinctually reacts happily to having his head and neck scratched, and Greed often makes fun of him for that.

He deals with chronic back and joint pain, so his wrist cuffs are for compression. He's also been known to use a cane on particularly bad days.

PIRATE TASHIGI HEADCANONS and INFORMATION

Not a captain by any means but doesn't join a crew either.

Somewhere down her path, she didn't join the marines and instead wanted to look for swords without being tied down to the navy and it's rules.

Still fights with honor and loves justice. Just not the way the people in the WG define the word.

If she did make a crew, they would be named the MEITO pirates because of her love of swords.

Her bounty would be decent enough but no too high and her method of attacking is swords, speed techniques, and Haki.

On her crew, she would be also be the singer as her voice is really good. She mostly sings about swords, coffee and justice though.

Her appearance would be ridiculous like in the Stampede movie but she also sports many swords upon her back and calls herself the 'sword liberator'.

IF SOMEHOW SHE JOINED the STRAW HATS HEADCANONS

In all, she would be reluctant to join but would be willing to come into the crew if Smoker or someone else from the navy joined as well.

She would be the crew's appraisal, knowing how much each and every treasure's value they came across and also would know about any swords they so happen to obtain. Tashigi fights with Zoro over who keeps what sword. lol.

Or she could be the crew's singer, since Brook is only the musician, which has a broader range than just singing.

She gets swept up in dumbs things more than Nami and Robin do when things are either relaxed or a certain captain is bored.

Tashigi is on duty to help the devil fruit users if they fall into water. Although, sometimes she herself needs help because of her clumsiness.

She trains with Brook since they both have the same blade techniques. Tashigi gets annoyed at Brook's questions and sometimes can be seen getting a little upset at the skeleton.

The crewmates that Tashigi gets along with the most are Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Chopper, Franky, and Jinbei. She rarely even goes up in the crow's nest because Zoro is usually there. With Robin, Tashigi still has some unsettled feelings about when the woman was part of the Baroque Works.

However, she goes with Zoro to get things for the ship mainly because she knows he gets lost easily and he will actually let her carry bags instead of Sanji who always insists on carrying them for her. Tashigi likes not getting pampered so when gruff Zoro tells her to carry her own damn bags, she's actually happy.

She happily eats cotton candy with Chopper and Tashigi is the only one on the ship that is allowed to drink coffee. She finds out when Luffy accidently gets his hands on one of her cups for the reason why that is.

Tashigi never steps into the kitchen unless it's time to eat or something. Plus, the more she stays away the better for everyone involved, much to Sanji's chagrin.

She takes her baths separately from Nami and Robin, mainly because of her body issues as in it's covered heavily with scars and hates when people stare at them, even if it's just the two girls.

Her bounty poster is the same as above, giving her the nickname, the 'sword liberator'. Zoro teases her about it, giving that one of his names for her still is 'sword nerd'.

She battles opponents that aren't too strong but aren't too weak either. Uses Yamaoroshi more as the sword is more powerful than Shigure but manages to use all three of her swords equally. And her signature move is Senbonzakura, just like in the Pirate Warriors game.

Edward Elric Headcanons (mostly pertaining to Edling)

I feel like Ed would be an unexpectedly good cook. Like although he's never had a lot of down time, he probably learned a few recipes that he will make when Al gets his body back.

So when he became a fugitive and basically had to survive with anything, he used his cooking skills in the woods. Ling can't cook for shit because he was used to being pampered, same thing with Greed. Anytime they were in the woods Ling, if Greed didn't feel like having control, would hover over Ed's shoulder as he cooked because he was just fascinated by this unexpected skill. Darius didn't seem to be the type to cook, but Heinkel and Ed would switch turns cooking. And if they are crashing at a lowkey motel, Ed would ask to use their kitchen and cook with proper utensils. Which Ling would absolutely be hyped about. Greed also liked Ed's cooking, since the home-like taste was similar to his old comrades from the Devil's Nest bar.
