When I find a actor/actress I like I will go through their IMDB and make a list of the films I think look interesting and watch them. Most of the time that means watching every single movie/ tv show they have been in. Titles with a ✔ at the end are the ones I've seen.

Bethany stands in the middle of the enormous, apparently endless beach surrounded by square miles of damp sand, the surf still some hundred yards off, the light pearly and uniform, the horizon a blurry, darker grey line shading into the clouds. Turning, she sees the black-green jagged stripe of the pines behind the dunes and, beyond that, more unchanging grey sky. A kind of dizziness afflicts her – she senses her insignificance, a small two-legged homunculus in the midst of all this space, a mere speck, a tiny crawling gnat in this elemental simplicity of sand, water and sky.
She squats on her haunches, worried she might fall over, and to distract herself takes out her camera and frames a shot of the beach, the sea and the packed clouds – it looks like an abstract painting. Click. It looks like an abstract painting by – what was his name? Colour-field paintings they are called, the three layers of colour-fields in this case being broad, horizontal bands of dark taupe, slate grey, nebulous tarnished silver. It is rather beautiful. She stands up, feeling equilibrium return – maybe she was hungry, and felt faint for a second or two or maybe, she wonders, maybe she has experienced an actual existential moment – an epiphany – and has seen clearly the reality of her place in the world and has felt the nothingness, the vast indifference of the universe…

I was tagged by the wonderful @junomarlowe to share my 2021 reading plans - thank you!
I optimistically went on a book-buying spree last winter, then lockdown robbed me of a quiet space to unwind and I was only able to read 3.5 books in 12 months; not ideal for my wellbeing or my poor overburdened bookshelves.
So, that leaves me in the middle of:
Battersby’s Fitzjames biography - Fitzjames can’t die if I never finish reading it which I’m really enjoying
Of the five shelves-worth of books I purchased, I’d particularly like to read the following in 2021:
Regeneration by Pat Barker - two friends have recommended it, yet the only progress I’ve actually made is that I now own a copy. But it is very much my kind of thing and I shall read it... this year... probably
The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry - a more recent recommendation. Also gathering dust because *gestures at everything*
So Long, See You Tomorrow by William Maxwell - if you’re seeing this you likely know why. It has already been promoted to the sacred spot beside me on the sofa
The Riders by Tim Winton - for related reasons
William Boyd - I think I have 5 of his novels left (Trio, Stars and Bars, The Blue Afternoon, Waiting for Sunrise, and The Dreams of Bethany Mellmoth). I’m trying to eke them out so I can bask in his genius for as long as possible
South: The Endurance Expedition by Ernest Shackleton - the polar explorer who got me into this mess
Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin series - twice attempted; twice halted by life inconsiderately getting in the way
Persuasion by Jane Austen - because I’ve never read any of her novels (yes, I know)
Tagging @snapewho @thaliatimsh @kami-ships-it and @caravaggiosbrushes - if you’d like to join in!
Also tagging @birdshitisland because we’re reading a lot of the same books!

keaneofficial: It’s eight years since Strangeland came out, and one of the best things about the release for us was that our favourite author William Boyd wrote a short story to accompany the album. William perfectly captured that bittersweet feeling you often get in seaside towns - in one sense you’re at the end of the line with nowhere further to go, but on the other hand as you look out over the sea it somehow feels like there’s a whole world of new horizons and new adventures waiting for you. If you’re interested in reading more of William’s work, this story later appeared in the collection of stories The Dreams of Bethany Mellmoth; or for something piano-themed you could try Love Is Blind; or go for Any Human Heart, possibly my favourite book ever! Tim

I can relate to this Bethany Mellmoth character because I, too, dream about Jack Lowden being my bartender and flirting with me while wearing bright red suspenders
