#the duarte sisters

There is one inconsistency between “the cruel prince” and “the lost sisters”.

In TCP Taryn told Jude:

“Cardan said you were suffering in my place and that if you knew why you’d back down

But Taryn told us something different in TLS. There her conversation with Cardan goes like this:

Cardan: I know what you did. Wicked girl. Yet you let your sister take the brunt of my ire. That wasn’t very nice, was it?

Taryn: I didn’t know. I swear I didn’t.

Cardan: Oh, I see why Locke likes you. You’re aweful. And the worst part is that you believe otherwise.

Taryn: Does that mean you’re going to leave her alone now?

Cardan: It’s much too late for that.

Then their conversation ends as Jude pins Cardan against the tree.

In the first version Taryn said Cardan Jude would back down but in the second version she says that its far too late for him Cardan to back down. So even if Jude would back down it doesn’t matter because Cardan wouldn’t back down.

Which one is it, Taryn?

The real question is did Holly Black mess up a little or did Taryn really lie when she is claiming to tell Jude the whole truth?

Please, I need answers or a Cardan POV. Cardan’s Novella “how the king of Elfhame learned to hate stories” sadly doesn’t even mention this part of the story.

Jude Duarte and Cardan Greenbriar from The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black

“It’s you I love,” he says. “I spent much of my life guarding my heart. I guarded it so well that I could behave as though I didn’t have one at all. Even now, it is a shabby, worm-eaten, and scabrous thing. But it’s yours.”
