have no proof for this but i definitely think the reason the mcu changed bruce banners character into a joke, disrespected & altered his origin story and like obviously doesn’t take him seriously is because he is at his core Very Anti-Military and.. well…you know who funds the mcu

"It's embarrassing. It's a crass generalization. I mean, you can't reduce an entire culture down to a simple diorama." - Loki, s2e3
I can't begin to tell you guys how much I love this bit, for a few reasons:
This scene was a pretty obvious reference to Norse pagans, and generally speaking when pagans show up in a TV show it's almost always a really insulting representation done clearly in bad-faith. Marvel even did this with their references to pagans on Agents of SHIELD in the first season. Only this time around, pagans weren't *really* the butt of the joke here. Loki's consternation isn't really about the statues, it's about the reminder of what he left behind/was taken from him with regards to his family.
For those of us who ARE pagan and very specifically those of us who have had interactions with Loki as a god, he is pretty well known to be really involved in his followers' lives to a point of quite frequently being defensive of them. While the line in-context means something very different, when it's taken out of that very specific context it's so much more than that and I don't believe it was entirely accidental.

i know it's just that multichaper works end up with more hits but it's still kind of wild to me that my "successful" fics about the selfcest pairing are the ones set in AUs where its not selfcest.

I will be honest, I am still scared to watch Echo because I think Maya should have been allowed to keep her photographic reflexes, instead of Disney / marvel making up some random weird chick and calling her Taskmaster. Like, we already had a Taskmaster-like woman. Her name is Maya Lopez.

speaking as a daredevil fan with no investment or personal attachment to the mcu, i gotta say it's been wild seeing daredevil the tv show and matt murdock become somewhat of a symbol in a lower scale (or even still blooming) culture war about the supposed Downfall Of The Artistic Integrity Of The MCU, which may or may not involve Sticking Up To The SJWs depending on if the person peddling it is an outrage obsessed redditor still fresh from Getting Really Mad About Star Wars or a twitter stan with a deranged parasocial relationship to charlie cox
and either way they go, it certainly is something to see again and again people getting really mad about slowly realizing that daredevil is not the main character, or even a supporting character, in the show he cameos in, and was explicitly advertised as a cameo in.

Ten characters from ten fandoms, tagged by @froizetta , this is exciting!!
Tbh I had no idea how to approach this, since you also weren't entirely sure about the criteria, so I just went with 10 blorbos that have given (and might still be giving) me brainworms of kaiju-type proportions at one point or another.
Death, aka thee anthropomorphic personification of all time, from the Discworld book series
Megamind
Puss in Boots, from the SCU (Shrek Cinematic Universe)
Corvo Attano, from Dishonored
Quirrel, from Hollow Knight
Takashi Shirogane, from Voltron: Legendary Defender
Tony Stark, Marvel Comics
Jason Todd, DC
John Gaius, from the Locked Tomb series
Jinx/Powder, from League of Legends lore, but specifically Arcane
I had trouble keeping it to one character per fandom because SOME OF THOSE *side eyes* are chock-full of blorbos and I black out everytime I even think about the franchises. Ehem. Anyway.
Tagging @crowreys-wormstache @intricatecakes @lesbianaloy @unseeleigh @autumnbois @space-lancer @shelbyinmyviola and honestly anyone who wants an excuse to showcase their faves this way.

what IS the equivalent of queerbaiting for “yeah we acknowledge that this character probably has ptsd but we’re never gonna let them heal or even acknowledge that the things that happened to them were indeed bad and that it’s understandable for them to be hurt by it”
..is it just ableism

if one more person tells me Wanda has never faced consequences in the MCU I'm gonna do something illegal
#she literally has nothing left to lose#like a nice lil wanda maximoff life recap:#she lost her parents and her house and her childhood to a bomb as part of a war she had no part in (duh. because she was fucking TEN)#then she lost her brother and her entire fucking country.#then she lost a bunch of friends after Civil War and all she had was Vision#and then she had to KILL HIM???? HER LOVER???? THE ONLY PERSON SHE HAD LEFT?????#WHEN SHE GOT SNAPPED AWAY SHE LOOKED RELIEVED?????#and then she came back and half her friends were dead and the other half just ditched her#and then she created Westview and created and then lost that entire family#and then between WV and MoM she lost her sanity and her sense of self and theN HER LIFE#SHE'S DEAD#SHE FUCKING DIED#WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT#SHE DIED ALONE WITH NO FRIENDS OR FAMILY AS A DIRECT CONSEQUENCE OF HER ACTIONS#ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME#HER LIFE IS ARGUABLY THE MOST TRAGIC IN THE ENTIRE MCU#(except Nebula and Gamora they had it worse)#(you can kinda make a case for loki but he also had a thousand years of just being an unpopular rich kid and anything that happened between#thor 1 and the avengers is purely speculation so i wouldn't put him above wanda tbh)#like other people have had worse things happen but the entire last two-thirds of Wanda's life have been trauma after trauma#and you wanna say she didn't get the punishment she deserved?#i hate the marvel fandom -_-#this is not an argument btw i will ignore any comments/reblogs i don't like

Saw you're doing the emoji fanfic asks :D
😬 , 🤡 , 🌞
😬 Which of your fics would you be most horrified for friends, family, or coworkers to stumble upon?
Listen. I would be mortified beyond reason if they found anything I wrote but especially any of the spicy shit I wrote. If they ever found the capkinkmeme fill set yourself on fire, just set my ass on fire and throw me in a volcano.
🤡 What’s a line, scene, or exchange you’ve written that made you laugh?
I'm gonna not quote Luke from that one exchange in The Storm and instead dig around the cracky Star Trek/MCU fic I wrote called born in a thunderstorm.
"I may not have been entirely honest." Everyone slowly looks at Loki. Pike prods his temple. This latest meeting is off to a fantastic start. "You have ten seconds."
🌞 Do you have a preferred time of day to write?
I used to think I wrote better at night when the world was quiet and didn't make demands on my time, but now that I've been adulting with a full-time job for 3 years, my preferred time of day is time where I'm awake, alert, and with no obligations. It is really hard to find.
Play ask games, win ask prizes!

Okay I finally figured out how to articulate why the Loki ending (and the final costume) is not hitting right (because frankly, it’s more than I expected from the show, and under other circumstances it might actually feel like it fits)
It’s like the writers since TDW looked at Avengers Loki and believed every lying word he said. They believed his god speech. They believed his glorious purpose speech. They believed he wanted to rule the world. And from that, they concluded that his biggest flaw is pride.
Everything in the series(and Ragnarok) is based on Loki being too proud. He needs to be taken down a peg—by the characters, by the story, everything. He needs to learn humility. So by the end, he goes to his finale knowing “what kind of god he needs to be”. Because he needs to be a better god, right? And the costuming reflects this: as a vessel of the story and Loki’s “lesson”, it strips away the armour, the leather, the finery, and shows a more humble god. The costume does its job well.
But humility isn’t Loki’s flaw. It’s Thor’s flaw. Thor’s entire first arc was about humility. But Loki? Loki’s flaw is envy.
Loki’s story was supposed to be about not belonging, about finding his place and finding (and accepting) himself. And tbh, the ending of the series could have worked really well with that! If it had been more about purpose, about finding Loki and where he belongs, it might have been a decent ending. But the path to get there never reflected any of that. It was all about stripping him down instead of putting together his pieces. Being a god was never the problem.
And I still think the mcu’s biggest mistake was separating Thor and Loki in the first place

Round 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under Cut
Pepper Potts
So many fics make her bitchy and controlling for absolutely no reason she deserves better
So for this we have to think back to like... peak Avengers MCU era. I am sorry. Back when Avengers had just come out it was BRUTAL out there for anyone who didn't like Tony/Steve (Tony Stark, Pepper's canon love interest, and Steve Rogers aka Iron Man and Captain America). While the ship itself is like, fine, it got sour so fast because Pepper was demonized SO much. When she wasn't completely sidelined and ignored, she was a cheater or an abuser (??) or what-have-you in fics so the two men could get together. It's much better now and last I heard Pepper gets some of the love she deserves (bc we do love women in this house!) but oh MAN it was bad back then. TBH all MCU women were treated like garbage by the fanbase but she got the brunt of it because she was in the way of The Most Popular Ship. She was just too #girlboss I guess
Frequently villainized for being a canon love interest for Tony Stark. Often portrayed as a Nag, constantly bothering him about doing "work" for his "company" when he could be working on inventions or spending time with his love interest! Sometimes she just Doesn't Understand Him, inconsiderately pressuring him to stay out of being a hero instead of being who he really is; only the m/m love interest really understands him! Or maybe she's the aggressor, who took advantage of the power imbalance between her and her poor innocent *checks notes* boss in order to pressure him into a relationship he didn't really want where he was treated terribly, and only his m/m love interest can save him from her! Pepper deserves better!
Sharon Carter
she “got in the way” of stucky shippers, in the comics she’s like the love of Steve’s life
When she first appeared she was unfairly treated by fans for "getting in the way" of the Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes ship. A shame because she's a really good character. I'd talk more about how unfairly Sharon, and her actress Emily VanCamp, have been treated by the fanbase and the creators, but that's a different story.
She and Steve Rogers were meant to have a romantic relationship, but the entire fandom and many Stucky fans dislike her because it wasn’t a good ship. I think she isn’t the best but she doesn’t deserve so much hate

hi, im new here (not to dd just to the tumblr sphere— why does everyone seem to hate zdarsky/checchetto? i really enjoyed the first part of zdarkys run and i adore checchetto’s art + design, so idk what i missed that makes everyone who comicsposts dislike it so much??
hm. this isn't the easiest question to answer. there's a LOT of different reasons as to why people disliked that run.
tbh I'll admit the first 20 or so issues of v6 are kind of okay. not impossible to read. it goes downhill fast after that, tho. very very downhill.
here's this post by @/xycuro-illuminati that does a good job of explaining why so many people disliked the run. here's my post on the ableism in zdarsky's writing. trust me you aren't the first person who's asked this question before
i'll give you a more general answer of my own opinion, tho
zdarsky's writing misses what most consider to be crucial points of Matt and Elektra's characters. with this, he entirely obliterates their characterization and that really pissed a lot of comics fans off.
i would consider volume 6 to be the beginning of the MCU-ification of dd. it is clear that at that point, some higher-ups were pushing for daredevil comics to become more like the show. the show was a MASSIVE hit and they wanted to cash in on that. so, they had the writers start shifting the comics and the characterization around to fit the show better.
this is where the problem lies. it is insulting, honestly, to ignore the past 50 plus years of writing for matt's character to shift it into something that will be more palatable to live actions fans just so marvel can get a good payday.
the most glaringly noticeable part of this is - the catholicism. the live action show makes a big deal out of matt being catholic when this was never really the case in the comics. while matt being religious and catholic are present in matt's background in the comics, it's not even close to being a big part of the character.
one of the main things that makes matt so compelling as a character is his morality, his integrity. he upholds his moral code relentlessly because he believes it is the right thing to do. he believes everyone deserves a second chance no matter what. in zdarsky's run and in the show, matt's reason for upholding his moral code is tied to his religious beliefs.
here's a good post on the origins of catholicism being related to matt's character and how it differs from the show and why it is such an injustice to tie matt's morality to his religion.
it's really really hard to articulate every single thing that's wrong with zdarsky's run while also giving you a thorough explanation.
i could tell you about how zdarsky's original plot was focused around matt's guilt when he accidentally kills someone but... matt's killed people before. he killed someone in his very first issue. ever. he was chasing after the man who was responsible for his father's murder and scared him so badly the man had a heart attack and died.
all of zdarsky's plots and subplots are all things that have been done over and over, he just writes it worse.
i could tell you about how shitty checchetto's art is. he can't draw women. or fat people (foggy fans deserve reparations). toward the end of the run he gets ESPECIALLY sloppy. he whitewashed kirsten and sam.
i could tell you about how zdarsky wrecked elektra's character. he completely ignored her origins and the character development she's had over the course of decades of writing just to slap some random retconned backstory onto her.
theres so. many. things.
i got into the comics through the show. when I started reading the comics I honestly perceived comics matt and show matt as two entirely different characters because they just felt so incredibly separate from one another. it is not that there are zero similarities, but their reasons for WHY they are the way that they are diverge wildly from each other
i dont know how else to put it except to say this. when I read zdarsky's run, I do not feel like I'm reading about Matt Murdock. it doesn't feel like matt, it doesn't feel like daredevil. it feels like an entirely new character that I do not know.
to fully explain to you why i feel that way would take a damn book. i realize that my answer isn't at all comprehensive and some parts are probably confusing but it is impossible to pick a start and end point. that's just not matt. that's it.
