Wanna know something I LOVE in Supernatural? How Dean and Sam are naturally opposites and end up as the other in some way. Let me explain:

In the beginning of the story, Dean doesn’t have faith. He mocks God and the existence of angels. He doesn’t have a moral code when it comes to killing monsters if it means saving someone else, someone he deems human.

Meanwhile, Sam has faith. Sam prays. He believes in angels at the first mention of them. He has a moral code and tries to save as many people or creatures as he can, up until the events of S3, when he and Dean almost switch.

Dean, a faithless being, corrupted by life, becomes the weapon of the angels.

Sam, a being of faith, holding to his innocence, becomes the weapon of the demons.

And I just love that man 😭

How can you, as a gay man, still be a Mormon, or even a Christian, with all the anti-gay things they teach?

I believe the overarching message God tries to teach is that we are all valued and loved, none are more important or more special. And we are to treat each other as equally prized and worthy.

Anything that veers from this message deserves to be questioned and called out.

Humans like to separate and rank, believing that we are favored and loved and others are lacking.

Hi, yes, ur post about The Trap. Pls o need to talk about it . I just yeah. Yeah. Like. Ok the confession activated my previous brain worms of course it did. That day (nov 5th) I could have ripped the universe in half with that confession. But . But the trap confession is.. like. The universe is ripping apart from the inside out kind of feeling because maybe I’m wrong maybe I am wrong here but I’ve never seen Dean so honest like that before. Not like that. He got on his knees here. This man has always been silent always . He’s always had a layer of disguise even when he’s vulnerable when he’s loud it’s for some passionate justice rooted reason. but not in this scene . Of course he didn’t say it out right but he did. He got on his knees to say it. It’s like Dean was honest for the very first time in his life about someone something HE WANTED. I just get so angry he says of course I forgive u he says while he’s crying. Am I making sense? Like I just can’t get over that scene specifically because Dean got on his knees. This man bows to no one but he got his knees for his faith for his love for his honest to god every thing the being tbat truly believed in him till his very last breath.

That scene truly sunk something in me . God when the Dean coded worms hit huh. Anyway thank u for reading whatever this was

Sooo I’m not new to the fandom, I was around until about S6… and then one day last year a video popped up on my suggested watching on YouTube and it was Dean’s prayer to Cas in purgatory… and I watched it with baited breath like no way, no fucking way they actually did it! They made it cannon, these guys are gonna kiss now. They didn’t kiss…. And then the confession happened….. but I just cannot get past the prayer. From Dean, that was HUGE?! That was his declaration! That was him showing his love! I know it does get talked about but everyone talks so much about the confession but for me the prayer is just so powerful?! You have this guy who rarely says sorry, who rarely expresses his feelings because all his life his wants and needs and feelings have been dismissed or ignored and he doesn’t matter, who has grown up thinking family is everything and nothing comes above it… says he forgives his Angel for killing his mother, “I’m so sorry” “I forgive you, of course I forgive you…” “I don’t know why I get so angry” “I hope you can hear me” “[i hope] it’s not too late” and then he tries to say it out loud, face to face, and for Dean that must be terrifying! Imagine all the times as a child, Dean tried to express himself to his father and was met with anger, dismissal, rejection - at worse physical chastisement. That feelings and emotions are terrifying to him as a result of those early experiences… and when he tries to say out loud his feelings (maybe a repetition of the prayer, maybe more - maybe a love confession) Castiel spares him his terror and embarrassment over feelings and emotions and tells him he heard. He has seen and touched Dean’s soul, he sees Dean, he accepts whatever Dean gives him. How powerful that whole scene and moment is. And THEN! his confession where he says that essentially to Dean and Dean is paralysed by overwhelming emotion and again his fears of emotion and feeling are confirmed when Cas dies for loving him, how loving Cas back destroys him. Emotions are scary. I think Dean is repressed in the sense that he ignores his feelings and tries to push them down and away. If they’re not there, they can’t harm him or the people he loves. Even in him saying he’s angry and he doesn’t know why, that’s repression, because anger is always a secondary emotion and he can’t look at the true causes of his anger because it’s painful.

Anyways that prayer scene brought me back and I can’t leave. I love the content you share and your fics, I’m super excited to read you DCB when my life finally calms enough that I can read in peace! Thank you for being in this fandom! (Sorry for my rambling thoughts, I needed to share with someone I hope you don’t mind)

Ah yes absolutely!! The confession/prayer in 15x09 is one of my favorite scenes in that season (and tbh the show). It shows incredible vulnerability and there's something about a faithless man on his knees asking for angel's forgiveness that is so very. Very powerful; especially when you think about the fact that Bobo wrote both 15x09 and 15x18. They are definitely two sides of the same coin for me. It's the saying it for Cas in 15x18; the self-validation that brings him happiness; and I always go back to what 15x09 IS for Dean, especially in conjunction with 15x18 being written first. Had he said the words out loud, to Cas' face - and had they been the "I love you" - would Cas have been grabbed by the Empty? Was that why he stopped him? And what was Dean thinking during the prayer and after, when Cas told him he didn't need to say it because he had heard his prayer? Additionally, we pray in speech but also in thought and feeling, and Cas can sense it all. What was Dean feeling? Thinking? It was even more powerful than the words he spoke out loud, I think. TBH I was very surprised no one asked Jensen about this particular scene during the last con. I know we tend to focus on Destiel adjacent questions from a Cas centered approach, but I genuinely would enjoy hearing the thoughts and process behind that prayer in 15x09.

it’s that we’ve literally seen dean cry but never from an apology. and this time not only does he cry, but he has a full breakdown over it. and he PRAYS to cas. and it’s the faithless man praying for forgiveness, and yes it’s about faithlessness from years before where he didn’t believe in angels or god but also ‘nothing about our lives is real’ faithlessness. and he’s praying on his knees in the middle of purgatory saying that he believes that this is real, that they’re real. they’re best friends and family and cas is the love of his life and he admits to cas that it’s all real and when they finally reunite, he gears up to tell cas just to be shut down and you can see how defeated he looks HE WAS GOING TO CONFESS FIRST

This scene is unbelievably important:

god himself calls castiel out specifically for his self hatred, a trait he "wrote" into him, but thats not what bothers him here, its the fact castiel grew out of that self hatred. grew out of his rules. grew out of his blind faith.

its a clear parallel that both dean and cas grew out of their father figures orders and rules, dean learning that he had more choices than what john had shown him and castiel learning that his faith in his father wasnt concrete, both learning of their abandonment.

every other version of castiel in every other world followed their orders and went on with Chucks script, because thats what god intended and you cant obey god not without super duper gay love at least

one angel out of the thousands, maybe millions of worlds chuck created broke free of the script, all for love, the self hating angel of thursday broke gods script using the love he had for a "broken" man.

which shows us another parallel of how every version the writers had written out for the show the fans put together castiels unintentionally written love for dean, thats what broke the writers script into giving us destiel.

when we go back to the start, when castiel first starts straying from "gods plan" we get shown so many times that it was dean, dean who "corrupted him" dean who "broke him", but to cas, dean was who freed him.

castiel prays to god, who is actually listening, and thinks hes under control, yet no matter how much chuck re-writes his script to be in line, castiels love for dean overpowers gods word.

the more castiel and dean grow closer with one another the more faithless they become in their corrupt idols, and as the series go by we see that in both of their choices, they become eachothers faith.

we've now seen what cas' love for dean could do, and now its time for the writers to show us what deans love for cas can and will do.

they defeated gods plan with nothing

but love and faith in eachother,

we know damn well they're going to

END him.

everytime i see the tag 'unrequited love' under a 15x18 fic, a part of my heart just shatters and i fight through angry tears and scream internally and feel like punching a wall... in this essay i will-

But if we can take Cas' actions through the seasons as proof that he did what he did because of his love for Dean, then that totally applies to Dean too right? Like he's done stuff on the same level, if not more intense, so really there can't be any argument about Dean's love for Cas, right?

no you’re absolutely right. it’s literally all there it’s all over his face and all in what he does for and because of cas. and when you remember that dean shows his love through actions because he’s not great with words it’s like. wow he was literally in love the whole time. actions including but not limited to:

turning back to look at him in s6

keeping his trench coat AND moving it from car to car

spending an entire year looking for him in purgatory

taking him out to little diner dates

wrapping him in his robe when he was under the attack dog spell

giving him a mixtape

falling to his OLD MAN KNEES beside his dead body

personally wrapping up his body and having to stop out of grief

praying to god for the first time to bring him back

and then when he does use his words it’s shit like goodbye stranger and thee trap which are both basically love confessions in of themselves

it’s frustrating that even after all this they try to be like no deans not gay you’re crazy but if you think about it for longer than three seconds it’s literally all there the faithless man fell in love with the angel. ring ring eric look what we did to your heterosexual male power fantasy

—juxtaposes my perception of him from a few seasons ago. also, i love the dynamic between sam, dean, and cas. it came up last season too, how it’s dean’s job to comfort sam, but when dean is desperate, he lets himself be vulnerable enough to seek out comfort from cas — from an angel. not just because they’re real, but because he found one worth believing in.
