i’m not joking some of the most compelling evidence for chuck won theory is the fact that sam and chuck are both there in 11x23 when dean instructs cas to look after sam when dean dies and says that he wants his funeral to be a giant affair with partying and music but then in the finale sam burns dean’s body by himself. like that’s literally chuck being petty and twisting the knife by making sure dean’s funeral was tiny and quiet and left sam all alone. chuck knew that dean wanted to get cas back, to retire from hunting, and for his funeral to be a rager with all his loved ones and dean was denied every single one of those things.

okay so the thing that melts my brain about atomic monsters is that it's very much in conversation with the finale. this isn't news, we all know how it foreshadowed the planned pre-covid finale with the sam-dean-cas funko pops at the roadhouse and the sam and dean funko pops under the tree. and of course we've dissected at length the way the episode seemingly takes several swipes at the writing of the finale via becky's critiques of chuck's planned ending. atomic monsters is not about atomic monsters, atomic monsters is about carry on. are we all agreed on this point? good.

so now bearing all that in mind, let's think about the way sam and dean, thinking they're finally free from chuck's control (something which they discuss multiple times throughout the episode) go to work an ordinary monster of the week case, while unbeknownst to them, chuck is still writing their story. the episode even ends with sam and dean having a lengthy discussion of the fact that they're free of chuck, only to cut to chuck writing, working towards a grave with the name winchester on it, followed by the shot panning over to sam and dean's funko pops under a tree--an image that we'll later see for real in the finale.

and then the very next episode is lebanon. 14x12 prophet and loss reaffirms what the show has already demonstrated or implied several times--that john winchester routinely abandoned dean as a child when he wasn't fulfilling his role as mediator and second parent adequately enough--and then the next episode is fucking *lebanon*. this is what we're talking about when we say supernatural is fundamentally incoherent and it's impossible to define a single canon because the show blatantly contradicts itself from episode to episode! john winchester was an abusive neglectful obsessed bastard except for when he was a complicated man trying his best who was ultimately always there for his kids when they needed him, except for all those times we saw him not be there for them. he's a terrible father because no he isn't. yes <3
