#the funny part is that bruce actually KIND OF LIKES WALLY

What's funny is how this makes me think of parents shittier than Bruce. It's almost like starting with Marv Wolfman giving us Trigon, Deathstroke, and Myand'r, writers insisted? Chuck Dixon gave us David Cain, someone who literally made me want to reach into the panel and strangle him. Tom King had that whole thing with two sisters at war, and as a bonus, they're related to Kate. That's bats for you.
Comics of the 80s-2000s are obsessed with terrible parents! In the Bat books alone, just off the top of my head, you've got Harvey Dent's parents, the retcon to make Barbara's biological dad an alcoholic, Steph's dad, Helena's whole deal, the retcon to make Catwoman into Falcone's daughter, David Cain (created by Kelley Puckett and Damion Scott, btw), Ra's al Ghul, SHONDRA KINSOLVING DEAR LORD.
(There were of course plenty of bad parents outside of Bat books—this is the era where Wally's relationship with his dad was changed to be much more complicated, for instance.)
It's funny, because I think Wolfman and Perez, at least, understood what they were doing with Bruce. Like, you read through New Teen Titans, you look at all of Dick's interactions with Bruce, and that's not just an abusive father, that's an abusive father written by people who have put some real thought into the exact kind of abusive he is. In NTT, when Bruce hits Dick, it's not out of nowhere, and it doesn't go nowhere. The argument in New Titans #55 is heavily tied into Dick and Bruce's specific history, and after Bruce hits Dick, he immediately starts gaslighting him about a real conversation that we've seen them have previously. In subsequent issues, Dick talks to a therapist about the incident, and it lays the groundwork for the response he's going to have in Batman: Year Three and A Lonely Place of Dying. Like, the one line from Batman: Year Three:
"I feel like the child of an alcoholic—you know the problem isn't yours, but it is."
That's not a line written by someone who thinks that Dick and Bruce's relationship is healthy!
We all love to talk about how the Titans all hate each other's parents, and I think for Wolfman and Perez, that's very much the point of the team. These are young adults who have all been very let down by their parents in one way or another, and so they find each other and become each other's family. So yes, Trigon and Deathstroke and Myand'r and Bruce are all different kinds of bad, but they're all part of the same conversation.
But then you move out of the Titans era and into the solo Nightwing era, and it's the 90s and comics are just getting generally grimmer, and Batman is being written as increasingly violent and isolationist. And all of the behaviors he had under Wolfman and Perez are still there, and sometimes even worse, but he's being written by people who I don't think actually understand that he's abusive. Like, in this post, I don't think either Ed Brubaker or Chuck Dixon noticed or intended that parallel.
As for O'Neil, I honestly think he just leaned towards reconciliation generally, and towards a much less abusive characterization of Bruce specifically, and I guess introducing EXTREMELY TERRIBLE fathers in Nightwing Vol 1 was his way of squaring that circle. I'm thinking about "Snowbirds Don't Fly," and how O'Neil wanted that story to end with Roy and Ollie reconciling—even though there was absolutely no reason they should've! It feels like a similar impulse was at play in his Nightwing mini.

Robin Jason, a friend and ally of the Titans.
PART 1.
Last Friday I was feeling extra rage-y after the news about the Titans mini with the Titans show line-up of heroes. I still think that a) Jason shouldn’t be considered a Titan or be in the team as Red Hood and b) that him going back to wearing a bat symbol on his chest is just bad but as @randomlut said there is a possibility of that book not being set in DC’s current universe and if that’s the case then okay, I will not complain about it anymore.
But this post isn’t about that Titans book it’s about Jason’s Robin’s appearances in volume two of the New Teen Titans!
Now, this won’t be an in-depth review of those issues from a story point of view, it will be a post in which I talk about Jason’s characterization and interactions with the Titans. Maybe I will even dive a little bit into why I think that the interactions that Jason and Roy have in those issues makes the relationship that they had in New52 very out of place.
Let’s begin!
·         NTT (1984) #19
Jason as Robin appears here only in the last page of the issue. After the current team of the Titans appears to be falling apart Donna calls Jason and others to help in a mission, this team that she puts together resembles the “original” line-up with Robin, Speedy, (Kid) Flash, Aqualad and Hawk.
·         NTT (1884) #20-21
Jason appears in the Titans tower along the OG Titans, when Donna finally tells them what the mission is all about (stopping Cheshire from interrupting a meeting) she asks if they are in on the job, Jason is not only excited about being there but about Batman actually letting him come all the way to the tower. A little bit of what Jason thinks or saw in Bruce is shown when Wally says that he “didn’t think the Batman could be thrilled by anything. He is always so grim.”
Tumblr media
Basically, what Jason says is that the Bat isn’t that bad if you get to know him and that he cares about Jason’s education outside of vigilantism. Also, Jason seems to be grateful and very receptive of the things that Bruce taught him, he regards him as a very good mentor.
After everyone decides to help, they get on their jet. Here we have a very important interaction between Jason and Donna, she is telling him how she is feeling about the attitude of the rest of the team and about how she is a little bit lost now that she is in charge of the Titans and then she asks what Robin thinks about the whole thing, Jason is obviously thrilled once more, someone as experienced as Donna is asking him for his opinion? It blows his mind away! Batman never does that, he is always following his lead and never has a say on what they do so, to him, helping the Titans is only getting better and maybe he will ask the Bat to let him join them permanently.
Tumblr media
Because they were talking Donna wasn’t paying much attention while flying and after they barely avoid crashing the jet, she apologizes to everyone and once more looks for reassurance with Jason, this time Jason is caught off guard but after Hawk teases him about his hesitation he tells her that “everything’s okay”.
When they arrive to Switzerland (where the meeting will be held) we have Jason’s first interaction with Roy Harper and him also slowly transforming into a burrito, that boy was cold and pissed off about it!
Tumblr media
It’s really funny to me that Roy talking about Oliver’s pervy arrows is his very first interaction with Jason, who would have thought that a mad man would later make them besties?
They all go inside a building to get warm and for a while Jason is just chilling while the other Titans are all having an existential crisis, because here is the thing, Jason is a kid, he was presumably 14 here while all the other are in their twenties. Donna is having trouble with her new position as leader of the Titans, Wally is trying to live up to Barry, Garth is grieving his love, Roy is still very uncomfortable about being on a mission that involves Cheshire and Hank is just crazy. The others are trying to complete a mission while their real-life problems loom over them and Jason is just on an adventure with cool people.
Its not much later than Cheshire attacks the Titans, she first takes on Wally because he is her biggest threat and then detonates a bomb, now here I will give a little bit of context, Cheshire does not want to kill the Titans as of now, she just wants to incapacitate them because them being there is making her own mission more complicated, all I will say is that she doesn’t truly have villainous intentions and that she has a very weak spot for Roy.
Anyway, the bomb incapacitates Garth and Roy and Cheshire also managed to shoot Wally so only Donna, Hank and Jason are left standing to capture Cheshire, but here is the thing, Hank doesn’t want to capture her, he wants to kill her.
Jason has interacted very few times with Hank so far and it has always been Hank teasing him but now as Jason is going to fight Cheshire Hank interrupts him telling him that he will do “what has to be done”. Cheshire of course wont fall easily and I think that at this very moment she is thinking that killing Hank wouldn’t be a bad idea because he is going to mess her plans up! But not to worry as she is raising her gun Jason comes in to save his ass!
Tumblr media
Jason is not a match for Cheshire and after that she quickly subdues him. But what’s important here is two things, first Jason doesn’t want or consider the idea of killing Jade, he just wants to capture her and bring her to justice, secondly, he doesn’t even want her to kill Hank, who has been violent towards every Titan and rude to Jason every single time that he has interacted with him. What I am trying to say is that this IS Robin Jason, he doesn’t think or act the same as Red Hood will in the future, he has his opinions on what punishments killers should get but he is not there to kill anyone himself.
There is this whole page where Donna beats Hank against a tree so he stops killing, because that’s not what the Titans do, she explains that if they do that then the public (that is already quite afraid of them) will just fear them more and they don’t need that, plus she believes that he is acting that way out of grief after losing his brother, as she is saying all of this though she is putting quite a lot of pressure on his chest and that might have ended up in her actually killing Hank if Jason hasn’t been there to stop her.
Tumblr media
Donna is obviously not having a good time and after this she says that she “has had it” and that from now on Robin should “take command” because “its his group anyway”. Oh man…its clear to the reader that Donna is not having a good time being team leader but she also misses a certain person a lot. She is obviously not seeing Jason there, she is seeing Dick, the person that she is used to take orders from but he is not there.
Jason is aware of this, he might be a kid and might not have as many problems as the other Titans as of now but he is not a fool and he doesn’t want people to see someone else when they look at him, so he confronts Donna about what she just said/did.
Tumblr media
Jason is just great in this scene; he just doesn’t want people that he admires to treat him as if he were someone that he isn’t. Just because Dick isn’t there doesn’t mean that he (because he is Robin) can replace him, they are not the same person and they do not have the same experience. He calls out Donna on her behaviour towards him and Donna being an adult takes responsibly for her actions and understands that ultimately, she was hurting Jason’s feelings. We have a kinda wholesome moment when they hug but because this is written by Marv Wolfman and he just can’t help himself, he proceeds to write Jason as a horny teenager. What a way to ruin the moment Marv…
Back to Cheshire, she is about to kick Wally’s face in when she decides to first tell him what he has to tell the others when they wake up, which is “Cheshire remembers”.
Wally tells the Titans Cheshire’s message but none of them truly understands what it means, Hank says that he doesn’t even understand why they are alive. Donna comes to the conclusion that Cheshire might want something from them and this is where Jason gives his thoughts, he says “Doesn’t matter what she wants. We take care of her. She’s a killer.”, its clear once more than although Jason (as Robin) wouldn’t kill anyone he does feel a certain type of way about criminals and wants them to be locked up.
After yet another verbal fight between Hank and Donna the Titans take a cable car to their next location, Jason is shown as exited about the view and the whole experience once more. When they arrive, they find Faraday (the guy that called Donna for help in #19) and he explains a bit more the situation but Jason once more is having trouble staying warm so he goes to the cable car tunnel nearby, but he doesn’t go alone, Roy goes with him because his “costume wasn’t made for this kind of weather either”, in this second interaction between these two we get to see Jason’s detective skills shine.
Tumblr media
Jason has been watching Roy and he found his reaction to Cheshire’s message quite sus. Not only is he showing his detective skills here but he also said in a previous panel this: “The Batman keeps telling me to watch people’s eyes. And every so often I notice you become awfully agitated…like something was going on you didn’t want to be part of”.  Zdarsky, hey pal, I am talking to you, look at this dude! He read Roy like an open book, this is Robin Jason, he likes being Robin and he is brilliant at it, he is methodical because he learnt from paying attention and working with Batman, so, you sir are wrong, not only did UtRH disprove your dumb narrative but so does this interaction (along all his appearances in this book).
Roy is impressed by the kid, and yeah, he calls him kid because he is a kid…Roy is visibly older than Jason as he should, do you see it Lobdell? Yeah, there is no dubious age gap between those two as you made it seem. Roy is impressed because between both of them he is the one that is most experienced, not the other way around. How did Lobdell manage to make up a whole as run where not only were Roy and Jason close in age and besties but also Jason was better at vigilantism than Roy and Roy was the one being impressed. It’s wild, wild and bad.
Back to the issue, Jason taken out of the fight quite fast once more by Cheshire and she proceeds to talk to Roy, that’s where we find out that they were lovers and that she feels weak when she is around him because he makes her feel feelings but that’s not all, she tells Roy that he is “the man that fathered my child” …Oh and now she does want to kill him. That’s where #20 ends, so let’s see what happens with Jason in #21.
In the beginning of #21 Jason is conscious once more and when he hears Cheshire’s threat, he attacks her so she can’t shoot Roy, he also says this “Sorry ‘cat’ that’s a definite no-no. Don’t you know mommy’s and daddies should never fight” I, I don’t know why he had to say it like that…the 80s were weird. While Jason is being himself Roy is thinking “Don’t be cocky kid, Jade hasn’t got a sense of humour…” but because he wants to talk to Jade, he tells Jason to go, that he will handle Cheshire and he leaves.
Roy and Jade talk, Donna and Hawk are fighting bad guys and each other and at some point, Jason joins Garth and helps him take down a couple of guys, he also tries to make conversation with him but Garth is still not talking to anybody.
Cheshire tells Roy that he will never hear about their child again and that he needs to let her do her thing and stay out of it because he doesn’t understand what’s going on, Roy doesn’t do what she asks and she “poisons” him. Donna saves a guy that Hank was trying to kill. After Cheshire leaves Roy comes to the conclusion that she wasn’t there to kill the people from the meeting or that she poisoned him, but because they were there and everything went to shit now the people that were getting together are blaming the Titans for the interruption. The whole thing is a mess and the news channel are not nice about the Titans as a whole, but I am not interested in exploring that here. All you need to know is that the people that made Cheshire do what she did to the Titans were the Brother Blood people.
It’s on the jet that we see Jason again, he and the others are going back to the tower. Because the news are painting the Titans as bad when they are arriving to the tower Jason sees a lot of people protesting about them and he feels bad. This was his first job with the Titans and he is a kid, imagine how sad it would make you if you wanted to help and after getting the job done people were mad at you. But even though he is sad about that he takes time to ask Roy if he is okay after he sees him almost running away from the tower, he doesn’t get a response but he isn’t mad about it.
Jason’s stay with the Titans comes to and end and he says that he loved hanging out with them and is grateful for having been invited, he is so sweet!
Tumblr media
·         NTT (1884) #24
Here, for some reason, we see Jason saying goodbye to the Titans again and unlike at the end of #21 Roy is there to see him leave.
Tumblr media
I am not going to lie though; I liked this goodbye better it feels like it’s more complete than the other one. Here he says that Batman wants him back in Gotham but that if the Titans ever need him again all they need to do is call. He also mentions Nightwing which is funny because he will be called by Donna again in #26 to help the Titans get Dick back from Brother Bloods Church.
I am going to cut this part here because issues 26 to 31 have a lot of Jason content that I want to explore and I can’t put any more pictures here, also this post is already long as it is now!
I just love Jason’s little moments in these issues, him confronting Donna and reading Roy like and open book in #20 are my absolute favourite, I just think this is a nice way to kinda show how wrong some current characterizations of Robin Jason are and what better way to do that than reading and looking into some good stories.
Oh! Before I forget, in #21 Roy leaves the Titans’ tower to go see Jade and he actually gets to meet his daughter Lian for the first time, so yeah, that was a wholesome moment!

Bart Allen Dating:
Tumblr media
How’s about one for Wally West later??
Superfam kid who was trained by bats and is an engineer? that kinda deal:
Does this child know what to do?
No, the answer is no
You two meet after he does the entire traveling back in time thing
Quickly, you became fast best friends
it was like you two were inseparable
You're the serious and he's the energized 24/7 one
He's getting the don't hurt her look from Bats and Sups all the time
and the crush was inevitable
he'd often come over and see what you were doing when you were at home cause he was bored at the cave
he wants to see everything that you're working on and what it does
Bart is extremely smart so it's great for the two of you to be bouncing ideas and thoughts off of each other
Picks on you when you're getting too into something
It's just his way of telling you that you're stressing yourself over nothing
Goes with you to events and expos since he gets bored and sad without you and wants to see everything he misses out on in the future
You two sometimes just pick a destination to go and leave for the day
You guys have weekly movie nights so that you can get him to watch the movies that were "old" to him
he's already watched a ton of them and loves them but won't give up a chance to be with you
Clark and Lois trust him enough so that he just stays over and sleeps on the couch in your room
It's at one of these movie nights that being by each other was too much and you two ended up reaching to kiss the other at the same time
It was funny but at the same time you were both relieved that the other felt the same way cause that would have been awkward otherwise
You try to go on dates very often like at least one every week
Since the both of you have a lot of energy you're both always training or running or doing something stupid
He does notice that you tend to get extremely serious because of your training with the bats
You're always trying to teach him new things that you've learned from Bruce
He'll just stare at you in admiration whenever you're going off on a tangent about something like a dumb villain, tech, some new thing that the league is doing, classes, something that you're interested in...
Couple goals and you cannot tell me otherwise
He's your ride or die especially when something happens in the field involving a certain green crystal
The first to get it out of the way and you to a safe place since it's super important
Batsilbing:
Bart got lucky when he met you and he knows it
It takes some time for you to start really trusting him since he's from the future and you don't know who he is
It's a family thing
But very quickly you come to be really close friends
To the point that Alfred has all of Bart's favorite foods ready on hand
Which is a big deal considering
You're always very very busy with Wayne Enterprises things and also the hero thing
He has a massive crush on you and wants to hang out whenever possible
so this means that he'll let you train him and everything to the point where he's never been so exhausted
he loves watching you train and fight since it's so rhythmic and always perfectly timed
It looks like you're just flying but you're not
He likes to just pick you up whenever he knows that you're stressed and over working yourself and take you some place else
It might be the middle of nowhere for nothing or some picked location
he's always with you late at night till he falls asleep when you're working at the computers in the cave
Your date to every single event
He likes when you talk about cases and things that you're working on whether they be really stupid or super super complicated
He's always offering different perspectives and ideas for them which really helps
Always wanting to help you with things even if they're difficult
The best moral support out there
Sometimes though he gets a little bit too rambunctious and you take him for training and run him dry
It's pretty hilarious but sometimes you feel bad since he likes to tell you that he's "totally moded" afterwards
Green Lantern:
You're already on the team when he arrives as most of these times you are
The first day you're training and Bart runs into you and you capture him in a green box
"WAIT YOU'RE A GREEN LANTERN?!"
In his defense, there aren't any when he comes from
You're the first one to really accept him since you're both pretty out there for powers and origins
It just makes sense that the two of you would both connect in some way shape or form
Both of you are kind of just the last of your kind that anyone knows about in the future
He's always wanting you to make cool things with your ring or giving ideas for what you should create
It actually really makes you a better lantern because all of the things that you make come from your mind
When you get tired or need a boost he's always there to pick you up
The kind of person that will just sit with you when you feel like you're drowning
he doesn't need to talk, he just sits and runs his fingers through your hair
Always loves weird and sometimes intergalactic dates if you can do them
Gets very sad when you have to leave to go on missions that he can't be a part of since you're so far away and can't be in touch with him
You'd always try and find some way to send some kind of message to him but it's hard since you're very very far away

hey do you think you can write something where Dick is touch starved bc the members of the batfamily are not that into giving or receiving comforting touch like hugs so he's feeling awful and acting kind of distant with the other bats bc he doesn't really want to bug them by asking for a hug and it's Jason that notices something is wrong and ends up giving it to him
Dick being touch starved is my jam. Especially when I get to give him what he needs.
Man, this prompt got away from me a little, I meant to do a small fill but, well, now you can read it here or on Ao3.
--
“What the hell is going on with Dickhead?” Jason grumbled. He’d totally cashed Jason’s case recently, and nearly bit off Jason’s head when he made a sarcastic quip.
Usually, that meant that something had happened, but Jason had dug around after hadn’t found anything other than a slow and steady escalation of violence the last several weeks. Seemingly from no cause.
There had to be something Jason was missing. Not that he cared or anything, but if Golden Boy was falling off the edge he needed to get ready. Or maybe he was just being nosy. Both were Bruce approved approaches.
Jason frowned as on screen Dick let several punches land that he could have avoided and choose to punch back rather than use his sticks.
“Ah, Dick is fasting again?” hummed Kori, coming to curl up next to Jason like a cat, her hair winding and winding itself around them in a way that still a little uncanny as it was soothing.
“Fasting?” Jason asked with a frown, “Like, skipping meals and stuff?”
“From love,” Kori corrected him, “and from touch. He needs it like food, but sometimes he chooses to deprive himself of both for long periods of time. He would get like this from time to time as a Titian. Quick to pick a fight and extra physical when he did… violence is the only touch he allows himself during this time, so he seeks it out constantly.”
That… tracked.
“Yeah… Bruce would have us believe that none of us needed things like that,” Jason murmured, watching Dick wrestle another small time crook to the ground and punching him repeatedly.
“But you know better now, don’t you?”
Sometimes. But other times… Jason could sympathize with Dick’s plight a little too easily, and physical touch wasn’t even his love language.
“How’d you used to get him to snap out of it?” Jason asked.
“Make love to him all night long,” Kori replied, her eyes going distant.
“Ah.” Jason knew he was flushing a bit.
“Or, sometimes Wally or the others would insist on a movie night and coax him into a spot close between everyone’s bodies,” Kori said, a faint, sad smile on her face.
That was probably no little feat when Dick was hellbent on acting like a mini Bruce.
“Sounds nice,” he said, rather than unload all the mean and bitter commentary in his head. It wasn’t like he had someone to do that for him back then.
“This is nice too,” Kori rested her head on his shoulder, “with you and Roy.”
“...Yeah. It is.”
*****
Jason couldn’t stop thinking about it as the week went on. How he ever ended up with nonviolent touch in his life and Dick didn’t, Jason didn’t know.
Maybe that was why he was outside Dick’s doorstep now.
“What?” Dick answered his door. He looked terrible; dark shadows under his eyes, his skin a little pasty.
“No hello? I’m hurt Dickiebird.”
“Hello. What are you doing here?” Dick said, already looking annoyed.
Jason wished he knew.
“Brought over some extra food. You look like you haven’t had anything but takeout in a while, so…. You want it?” Jason held up the bag to show him.
“You brought food,” Dick stated, looking suspicious, “Why?”
“I just said I made extra, keep up Dickhead,” Jason shot back.
He was no good at this. He should have just bothered Wally into visiting. Someone who could get away with a casual hug.
Jason was not much of a hugger, casual or otherwise. He wasn’t too touchy-feely in general and he didn’t know why he was there… but since he was there he wasn’t going to be driven away so easily.
“Did Bruce send you here?” Dick demanded.
“Bold of you to think Bruce can make me do anything,” Jason retorted.
Dick seemed to accept that. As he should.
“Fine, whatever, just… you didn’t drug it, right?” Dick asked as he moved out of the way and let Jason inside.
“Who the fuck do you think I am, Alfred? If I was gonna drug you, I would slip it into your delivery, not some home cooked meal,” Jason scoffed.
It was really messy. It made Jason’s fingers itch for some cleaning supplies, but that wasn’t why he was there.
“Home cooked?” Dick’s eyebrows raised curiously.
“Curry,” Jason said, pulling out the containers from the bag in the little spot on the table not covered in case files, “I always thought it tasted better the day after anyway.”
“Did you make this?” Dick hesitantly came over, curiosity seeming to win out over defensive aggression.
“Who else would have?” Jason rolled his eyes, “here, heat this up will you?”
He passed over a container of rice. Their fingers brushed and Dick’s hand spasmed for a moment.
Jason didn’t comment. He knew what that was like. Going so long without any kind of touch that the slightest brush of skin felt like getting electrocuted.
“Why me?” Dick asked, hurriedly turning his back to him and fiddling with the microwave.
Because you need it.
“Oh, you know, if your ass gets any skinnier, the community will collapse on itself. Can’t have that,” Jason said breezily instead.
“What a saint.”
“Right? They should put me up in the little chapel on 5th St. I’ve already died and everything, I’m totally qualified,” Jason said, then changed the subject, “You have a toaster oven?”
“Why would I have a toaster oven?” Dick grumbled.
“Because they’re damn useful? Never mind, I’ll just use the oven,” Jason said, nudging Dick out of the way so he could reach the nobs. It wouldn’t need too much, it was just to lightly heat the naan.
“Are you eating here too?” Dick asked hesitantly.
“Might as well, it’s dinner time,” Jason shrugged.
Dick didn’t say anything to that. This time when Jason passed him the next container to heat, he didn’t flinch when their hands met, but he pulled away much more hesitantly.
This part felt a little unnatural for Jason, because he… didn’t really let people touch him who weren’t super close to him. And he and Dick- they just weren’t. It wasn’t bad, per-say, just decidedly uncomfortable.
He wasn’t planning to let that show though.
Jason bullied Dick into bantering with him as they prepped the rest of the food, all the while finding reasons to brush up against him. Let their hips touch when he checked the heat on the food, a hand on Dick’s arm to move him out of the way to open the oven, steading his hands as he stacked plates and utensils into his arms.
Dick was mostly past the shockieness and onto the needy phase by the time they got to actually eating the food. It felt a little manipulative to sit down right next to him on the couch while they ate so their legs and arms could casually brush every now and then.
The nice thing was that Jason didn’t have to initiate anymore. Now that Dick had figured out that he wasn’t going to be pushed away and that Jason was pretending not to notice, he was pressing close with every possible excuse. As he did, he chattered away about this and that, a slight nervous jiggle of his leg.
It was strange, like watching someone slowly come alive again. Like a dry plant perking up at the first taste of water. Jason wanted to somehow give him even more, but he didn’t know how. So he just stayed close.
Dick didn’t ask him to leave when they finished their food, so he didn’t.
Jason turned on the TV.
It was funny, Dick’s commentary slowly started to die down as his eyes started to drupe.
“Maybe I really should have drugged you food, when’s the last time you got a full night’s sleep?” Jason noted, reaching over to touch his forehead. He was a little warm, but not too bad.
“When’s the last time you did?” Dick shot back, but his eyes dropped closed under his hand and he didn’t push him away.
It felt a little too intimate for Jason though, so he pulled away. Dick swayed forward a little when he moved, like a part of him want to chase his touch.
He probably did.
Jason looked away and shrugged, trying to remember what they had been talking about. Sleep. Right.
“I actually do these days, Roy or Kori kick my butt if I don’t,” he said.
“They take good care of you,” Dick said softly.
“They do,” Jason agreed, his chest feeling a little warm at the thought.
“Good,” Dick said, his expression distant as he turned back to the TV.
Jason wondered if he missed them, but didn’t ask. Dick couldn’t have burned those bridges any better if he’d tried.
They watched TV silently for a while, Dick’s finger tracing patterns on his own leg, back and forth and back and forth.
Jason felt an impulse to grab his hand, but pushed it down. That wasn’t them. Roy and Kori must have been rubbing off on him.
When Dick’s motions stopped, Jason glanced over and snickered when he found that he had dozed off. When he started to tip, Jason raised his arm so he would settle against his side instead of tipping forward and jerking awake.
He didn’t know why he did it- since it effectively trapped him for however long Dick was asleep- and he told himself that it was because Dick needed the sleep, which he did, but-
Dick made a soft little sound as he positively melted against him, even in sleep. It was such a fragile thing, so relieved, just on the edge of broken… it made Jason’s chest ache.
He let him sleep.
Jason might not be able to bury him in a pile of close friends or make love to him all night or whatever, but… he could do this.
He hesitantly carded his fingers through Dick’s hair and watched him lean into the touch desperately, lips parting in a content sigh.
Maybe for this, Jason could be enough.

The archer - Tim Drake x reader 1/?
Hey guys, how are you doing? I have been working on this story for a while now and decided to finally post it, I am currently still writing the next parts because I decided to change a few ideas I had previously, but this is mainly just me giving Tim Drake some love and incorporating a bit of my love for Arrow too. Hope you guys like it and feel free to request me anything if you'd like, I write for the batboys, Wally and Conner.
Requested: no
Warnings: some swearing
Summary: Y/n Queen will be living in the Wayne Manor for a while, and Dick Grayson decided to be the Cupid between her and his little brother Tim Drake.
Word count: 2.228
Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7
Tumblr media
The Wayne manor was silent that day, Bruce had everyone prepared for the arrival of a guest. The four boys were pissed off as why they had to make sure their rooms were organized, it was not like the guest would sleep in there. Dick and Jason didn't even live there anymore, but they gave up on arguing after one pointed look from Alfred.
When the doorbell finally rung, the boys were all too busy playing around in the cave - somewhere they found out they would have privacy, after all there was no way the guest would get there. So they weren’t there to greet you as you found your way around the house, after being greeted by Bruce and Alfred, letting them take your bags to the room you’d be staying at and showing you around.
You ended up standing in front of the clock, you knew pretty well what that clock meant, your brother had told you about that. You had a vague idea that the boys would be there - you really wanted to meet all of them - but didn’t want to intrude, this wasn’t your house after all and Bruce was already being nice enough to let you stay over while your brother was away in some business. So you went back to your room, deciding to meet them when was the right time.
And it actually didn’t take long for you to run into one of them. You collided with a huge body, making you land in your butt as you looked up to see none other than Jason Todd. He started down at you.
“Who are you?” He asked, frowning "Are you the guest Bruce told us about?"
“Hello to you too, Jason.” You rolled your eyes at the boys antics, pushing yourself up “It’s nice to see you again.”
He started at you for a few seconds before realization drowned on him. You are Y/N Queen, Oliver’s young sister and Roy’s ‘sister’ as well. He hasn’t seen you such a long time he almost didn’t recognize you.
“Y/N?!” He questioned, too surprised, patting your shoulder “Oh, it’s good to see you again. You look so different from the last time I saw you.”
“That’s because the last time you saw me I was sixteen.” You smirked up at him “Which means you’re getting a bit old.”
He narrowed his eyes at you “You’re like eighteen now or something?”
“Nineteen, actually.”
He nodded, leading you downstairs to the kitchen “Well, you’re still underage so you still have to respect me and do what I say.”
“When have I ever done something people tell me to do? I literally went after a serial killer on my own when I was fifteen just because Ollie told me to stay out of it.”
Jason nodded his head, remembering Roy complaining about something like that. He didn’t pay much attention at the story at the time because he thought it was boring and he had better things to think of, such as his revenge on Bruce, but now it seemed amusing a small girl like you trying something like that. He made a mental note to ask you more details about it later.
“I hope none of you are doing anything imprudent, we have a visitor and that would be really bad looking for you all.” Jason exclaimed, entering the kitchen with you by his side
His three brothers were sitting on the counter, fighting over the last cookie Alfred had made earlier. Their heads shot up in curiosity trying to find out who was there with their brother. Hoping it wouldn't be the mysterious guest.
You stood still, pushing some hair from your face and offering them a friendly smile. Oliver has told you about them, even Roy filled you in on who they were, you’ve seen pictures of them, after all they were Bruce’s Wayne kids, but damn, you didn’t expect them to be this good looking in person.
“Todd, who’s this?” A small boy questioned, holding up a knife to point at you
You chuckled at that “I’m y/n, it’s really nice to meet you. Maybe you should let go of that knife, kids shouldn’t hold things that can hurt them.”
“I’m not a kid!” He yelled
His brothers laughed at his face, Tim already taking a liking into you. If you got to bother Damian in less than five minutes into conversation than you were cool. Dick though you were funny and Jason smiled proudly just because he knew you before everyone else.
“This are my brothers, Dick, Tim and Damian.” Jason introduced them to you
You smiled once again, taking a sit across from where they were.
“So...” Dick started “Y/n, when did you and Jason get together?”
“What? You think we’re dating?” You almost gagged, taking a look at the boy beside you. From all the stories you heard about him from Roy, you were 110% sure that you’d never be able to feel something more for him “We’re not together.” You chuckled at the end
Jason narrowed his eyes “Y/n is the guest Bruce told us about, but hold on a second... Why did you sound so disgusted?”
“Because anyone would be disgusted if someone thought they were dating you, Todd.” Damian rolled his eyes, earning a few laughs from his brother and you, and a death glare from Jason
“Roy just tells me so much shit about you, and you guys are glued. It would be like dating Roy, totally weird.”
“Oh, you’re friends with Roy?” Tim asked, leaning in a bit, curious about how much you knew about them all
You smiled directly at him, flipping some hair from your face. He stared at you for a while, mouth slightly open before quickly shutting it close. You were so pretty and what a perfect smile you have.
“Yeah, I’ve known him almost my whole life.” You replied, frowning a bit, thinking back into old memories of when things went down hill, but quickly smiled again at boy in front of you “So I know plenty about all of you.”
That gave him the answer he needed. You knew about their nightly activities, which was better than having to lie all the time. Not like he was expecting to have you around all the time, you were just staying for a while. But he wouldn’t mind staring at your gorgeous e/c eyes, and pretty conquer smile.
Dick’s eyes went wide, looking at his brother and than at you. An idea already popping on his mind, if you weren’t dating Jason, maybe that meant you weren’t dating anyone, since you stated you also weren’t dating Roy. Big chances of you being single. Watching you and Tim interact made him want to play match maker, oh he was desperate to play match maker.
“How old are you, y/n?” He blurted out loudly
“I’m nineteen, why?”
“Oh! Nothing! Just curiosity. Did you know Tim is twenty-one? Only two years older than you! Funny, right?”
You nodded, biting your lower lip to prevent yourself from laughing. Dick didn’t know how to be discreet.
Tumblr media
It had been a couple of days since you’ve been at the manor and you noticed a couple of things:
1. Damian was a very hard person to socialize with, he was very judging and didn’t seem to enjoy your presence at all.
2. Jason was everything Roy told you about him, and that was kind of creepy.
3. Dick was definitely trying to play cupid, asking you random questions out of the blue and then stating facts about Tim.
4. Tim had a very weird sleeping pattern, was coffee addicted and the nicest to talk out of the four of them.
You tried to live your days as normally as possible, but nothing normal is really normal in this family. You thought it was ok their vigilant routine, your brother was one as well, but weren’t they extreme sometimes?! No wonder Oliver said Bruce was uptight. They show zero emotions.
You tried not to get in their way, not really bothering them when they were busy with patrol and cases. You figured your time of the day should be during the night, when the would be out of the manor and on the streets fighting crime.
Going down to the kitchen to get some coffee, maybe something to eat and then you could silently laugh while watching Brooklyn 99. What you didn’t expect was to run into Tim during that.
He was pouring down coffee on his mug when you appeared on the doorway. He glanced up, smiling once he saw you.
“Did I wake you up?” He questioned, leaning down on the counter
“No.” You shook your head, smiling back at him “I came to get some coffee. Shouldn't you be on patrol?"
"It is my day off." Tim replied, watching you as he took a sip of his coffee
"So then... Can't sleep?"
“I normally don’t sleep. What about you?”
You arched your brows at that, pouring some hot coffee in a mug for you. Who normally doesn’t sleep?
“Just wanted to watch some Netflix in the quite of the night.” You shrugged “What do you normally do since you don’t sleep?”
"I just work on some cases."
That seemed unlikely. How could someone stay up all night just working on some cases? He certainly did other things, maybe he had a secret girlfriend and he would sneak her into his room at night and that's just what he told everyone he was doing? Working on some cases.
"But you do that all night? I doubt it's healthy. Don't you like have a secret girlfriend you're sneaking in and you just don't want anyone to find out about?"
Tim laughed at your statement, shaking his head.
"I don't have any secret girlfriend or a real girlfriend for the matter. I like working at night. You could help me sometime, if you'd like?" A dust pink took over his cheeks, maybe he crossed the line by asking you join him in his room in the middle of the night, but you smiled at him
"I'd love to help you on some cases. Shall we start now?"
He nodded, grabbing your hand and pulling you in towards his room. You smiled at the touch of your palms, his hand was way bigger than yours, but you liked how it felt against your skin. His fingers were cold. You could get used to holding hands with him, it felt nice.
You entered his room, looking at the place around you and seeing how it had so much of him in it. It smelled like coffee and his cologne, a nice combination. He closed the door behind you, leading you to his desk.
"So, what do you want me to help you with?" You questioned, leaning on the desk and staring at him
He took a moment to admire you. Your face free of makeup, some natural redness on the skin that made you look cute, your hair down on your shoulders, and your comfy pijamas.
"Have you ever worked on a case before?" You nodded, making him look at you with surprise. You smirked before he kept on talking "I'm trying to track down some of these weapon buyers, there's supposed to be a sale soon, but I can't point out the location yet."
"What are our leads?"
Tim smiled, showing you all the evidence he got before splitting up the job and the both of you starting to work. You sat on his bed with a laptop and he sat beside you with his own. Both clicking at the keyboard, trying to find new clues to find out the place of the weapon sale before it's too late.
At some point of the night, you had decided to take a small break. Laying on your side, looking at Tim while he worked and holding a small conversation with him. But then you were too quiet and when he looked at you again, you had fallen asleep, holding on his shirt sleeve.
He closed his laptop, carefully placing it on his night stand, trying not to disrupt you, and lied down himself. He tried to put some distance between your bodies, but you shifted only getting closer to him once you missed his body warmth, and he found himself trapped when you plopped a leg over his thighs. His cheeks turned red and he was really glad you were asleep so you wouldn't be able to see how flustered he was right now.
Eventually, during the night, Tim wrapped his arms around you as your head was placed on top of his chest. And that's how Alfred found the both of you in the morning, having checked your room to wake you up for breakfast and being frighted to find an empty bed.
"What you're staring at, Alfred?" Dick asked, waking past him on the hallway only to squeaky like a little kid once he saw you two asleep holding each other "I knew it! I knew they'd end up together!"
He grabbed his phone, snapping a couple of pictures before being rushed out of there by Alfred. Tim deserved some sleep, and the both of you looked too adorable together to be disturbed like that.

If it’s ok, could we get a small clip of the next chapter?
Sure!....which story?
Um, here’s one for all of them. It’s long (very, very long) so I’m putting it under “Read More”
(All story segments are not fully edited and may change)
Tooru Oikawa and the Triwizard Tournament
Yamaguchi squinted towards the other side of the Great Hall. “So have they….made up now?”
A few tables down, Kageyama and Hinata seemed to be in the middle of a very loud and very spirited argument on whether condiments could ever count as side dishes. Grievous insults to intelligence had been made and threats of murder were likewise issued.
“I think so.” Ennoshita didn’t sound confident.
Hinata attempted to tackle Kageyama off of his bench.
“But, they’re still not playing together for Quidditch,” Yamaguchi confirmed
Kageyama shoved an apple in Hinata’s face.
Asahi watched wide-eyed. “They said they couldn’t yet.”
A resulting debate over the term 'breakfast fruit’ emerged. It was somehow even more heated.
“But, they’re not fighting?” Yamaguchi had to confirm.
“Suga says they aren’t,” Daichi said.
They had now decided to share the apple. Yachi beamed from beside them. Lev booed.
Yamaguchi decided there and then. “I’m never going to understand their relationship.”
“They’re idiots,’ Tsukishima concluded.
And, thus, the most watched and highly contentious fight of the entire school year--Tournament included--finally came to its baffling end.

After the Fall of Olympus
(Sorry, it’s a depressing one--partly because I can’t take out much from the chapter without giving away a really major spoiler that’s revealed in the first scene)
Dick and Donna have this thing they do.
It started maybe three years after the invasion, before Kory’s ship landed, and when everything was still raw but finally slowly trying to get better.
They’d been in the tower alone, both on monitor duty, when Donna had turned to him and out of the blue asked, “Dick, tell me about Wally West?”
“What,” Dick had asked, too surprised even to feel the pain that sharply.
“You and Roy mention him every now and then. He was your best friend, right? I want to know more about him.”
Dick had just stared. Stared until Donna had admitted in a too quiet voice. “I’m tired of not being able to talk about them.”
So Dick had talked. At the start, it wasn’t even about anything important. Just about what a huge chemistry nerd Wally was. How he flirted with girls non-stop. The time he’d tried to phase through a wall and got half way through before panicking. And then, slowly, Dick moved on to important things. When Dick first told him his secret identity. How Wally had wanted to grow up to be just like his uncle. What Dick had felt when he saw his body.
Donna talked, too. About her sister. About growing up with Diana, about the numb shock watching her death on the news, about wondering if her sister would be proud of her and the a million and one times she was scared of living up to the reputation.
It became a routine. Not every day. Not even every few months. But, now and again, one of them would seek the other out and Donna would talk about Diana or some of her other Amazonian teachers lost in the invasion and Dick would talk about Wally and M’gann and Artemis and Connor and Kaldur and….and Bruce. One time, Dick even talked about Superman.
They talked and the pain didn’t go away--not fully, not ever--but eased until they felt like they could breathe again, until they could remember a past that was colored by more than just the pain of their deaths.

Walking With My Eyes Open
Gen wasn’t a kind man; he was pragmatic.  And he’d long decided he’d do absolutely anything, sink to any kind of low, be however ruthless he needed if it meant saving Senkuu’s life.
So….
Decisions, decisions.
He shredded a petal under his nails and tossed it down.
“Gen?” A blonde head popped up beside him. “What are you doing?”
He smiled, making sure it was a soft one despite his mood. Because he absolutely believed in playing favorites and when it came to the village--to his entire life, actually--it wasn’t hard to guess the people that rested on top.
Suika smiled back, a glimpse of bright blue eyes shining through the shadows of her mask. Then, she tilted her head and lowered her voice. “Are you hiding from work?”
Gen laughed, pressing a finger to his lips. “Maybe a bit. Don’t tell on me, okay?” He winked. “Besides, I was considering some options. Thinking counts as work, too, doesn’t it?”
Suika nodded, glancing down at the growing pile of mangled petals then to the daisy Gen was still steadily demolishing. “And the flowers are helping you think?”
Actually, Gen had just been feeling murderous towards flowers lately. Call it enacting justice vicariously.
“Not particularly.” He picked up another flower from beside him and instead of shredding it, started to fold. “You’re right. I think there’s a better use for these.”
A few more quick movements and he wove a flower bracelet, just small enough to slip over Suika’s wrist.
Her grin brightened, looking at it like it was the next great marvel--so, at least Gen had accomplished one thing today.
“It’s so pretty,” Suika said, looking up to see it closer. “And the flowers are so close together. Can you teach me?”
“Sure, once we get some more flowers.” He picked up the last one, winding his fingers around the stem. “You know, now that you mention it. There is an old game about flowers and decisions. Want to hear it?”
Suika sat patiently in front of him, eyes fixed on the daisy because of course, she wanted to learn. What other village could this be?
“It’s very simple.” Gen counted off with one hand, flower in the other. “Two phrases, you pick a petal on each and the one you land on is your answer.” Gen picked a petal. “He loves me.” Another petal. “He loves me not….”
Suika gave a small gasp. “Flowers can tell you if someone’s in love?”
Gen didn’t laugh because he knew it would be bitter.
“No,” he said quietly. “It’s just a game. Back before--ah, before even me and Senkuu, that is--ladies would play it to see if their beloved would ever return their affections. It’s silly.”
“So…,” Suika thought a bit, “it’s like a wish, then?”
“I think I’m using it more as a hex,” Gen muttered as he got to the last petal and glared.
He loves me.
Well, fuck.
Gen supposed that’s what he deserved for trusting flowers.
He gave his largest, most theatrical sigh for Suika’s sake. “Ahhh, Suika-chan, look at that! It seems like I lost. More’s the pity for me!”
Suika grinned up at him, hopping to her feet and wrapping her arms around his hips. “It’s okay! I still love you.”
Gen patted her head, smiling despite himself.
“Maybe you were using the wrong flower,” Suika told him.
“Could be.”
“I’ll go get more,” Suika promised. “Then, you can find one that’ll work.”
“More flowers is a good idea,” Gen agreed. “But, I think I’m tired of this game. Why don’t I teach you how to make the best flower crowns in the entire stone world? Then, we’ll both have to be the most beloved people in the whole village, won’t we?”
Immediately, Suika ran off to the woods and Gen watched her go.
At least, flowers could do good somewhere.
He looked down at the mangled flowers. A daisy, purity and innocence.
With a shift of his heel, he ground them a little further into the ground..
Flowers were an awfully pointless thing to blame; but, Gen was petty and they were easier than the alternative.
Still. He taught Suika how to make flower crowns and when she pressed one last bloom into his hand, so excited to find the last one of the season, he took it like his heart hadn’t plunged to his feet.
It was hard to look at black nightshade and forget it was a poison.

Call Me Your Home At Night
(Note: very, very subject to edit. Part of the reason this one has taken awhile is rewrites while I work on tone)
Atsumu was shouting--voice tinny over the phone speakers--and Hinata’s blender was doing its best impressions of death throes while Hinata frantically tried to keep both the chord at the one angle it worked and hold the blender’s lid down so the entire kitchen didn’t end up coated in a weird grey mix of protein shake and bananas. Again. For the fifth time.
In other words, it was a normal morning.
From the part of his mind that noticed these things, Hinata thought it was kinda funny that Atsumu had learned to time his complaining to coordinate with the aggressive disaster that was Hinata’s morning routine.
Like the world’s weirdest symphony, the opposite of harmonizing. A disharmony! That was it!
“Seriously, what the fuck is a ward court and how is it different than a family court? Why do we even need two courts for divorce? Huh? Why not just shove a paper at us and have it done!” Atsumu’s voice got increasingly petulant. “Shouyou, it’s like the entire country is trying to keep good, decent people married! Why does it hate us?”
It was a close call; but, in a competition between one aggravated setter on speaker phone and the relentless whirring of the cheapest blender Hinata could find on the internet, Atsumu still managed to fight his way through.
Hinata gave the phone a sympathetic look even if he knew Atsumu couldn’t see it. He turned off the defeated foe and mentally crowned Atsumu the winner of Disharmony 2016: Blender vs. Atsumu edition. Not that he had much doubt.
“Find anything you like with grounds for divorce?”
Atsumu grumbled which meant no.
Then, Atsumu huffed which meant no and the world wasn’t fair!
So, apparently, divorce was harder than it looked. Actually, a lot of things about this “being married” thing were more complicated than they thought and, in the month since they’d been technically married, Hinata had frequently and strongly fantasized about grabbing his past self by the shoulders and shaking him while screaming ‘WHY?!’ right at his face.
Like taxes!
Who knew how to do taxes? Who knew that taxes were apparently due this month? Including married people taxes which apparently were more complicated and had things like joint filing or separate and dependants and a bunch of other words that Hinata still didn’t understand completely. It wasn’t like he could ask his Mom for help after everything or even beg Yachi or Kenma like usual because that would bring up the whole marriage thing and, ugh, no, no, no, no.
Hinata was pretty sure he and Atsumu had figured it out. Enough, at least. Getting arrested for tax evasion seemed like something that only happened on the news so it was probably fine.
Uh, so, yeah, between the whole moving to Brazil thing and figuring out stuff like rent and utilities and meeting the indoor volleyball team he’d be working with plus some of the beach volleyball players and trying to get his new roommate Pedro to talk to him about things other than laundry and groceries and trying to remember the difference between bolo and bola and finding a job and Atsumu dealing with MSBY promotion stuff and interviews and getting ready for pro-volleyball next season and then them both having to deal with stuff like taxes and still being weirded out about all the accidental wedding stuff in general, they…..well, they hadn’t gotten much done about the whole divorce thing.
Okay, more like they’d gotten exactly one thing done and that was figuring out a time to freak out about all the things they hadn’t gotten done. The good news was that the exactly twelve hour time difference was sorta perfect since it meant Hinata got back from his morning jog about the same time Atsumu came home for dinner, which meant that quickly became their agreed time to call with updates.
….which usually tailed off into both of them talking about volleyball instead because volleyball was a whole lot more fun.
Hinata very carefully pushed aside the resulting mental montage of sand scraping along his arms on a missed receive and feet sinking into the ground and landing face first in burning sand that was happening way more than he’d expected.
Hinata shook his head, scraping the not-very-blended protein shake out of his blender. “I’ll try to look some stuff up this afternoon.”
“Isn’t your laptop still being screwy?”
“...Maybe.” It was more like Hinata’s ancient laptop had given a sudden death kneel--complete with hisses and the screen flashing--and Hinata was sorta scared he’d get electrocuted if he even touched it. “I’ll use my phone.”
“I could just buy you a laptop, you know,” Atsumu muttered. It wasn’t the first time; Hinata even knew his next line.
Hinata grinned. “That’s really sweet, Atsumu. Absolutely not, you’re already doing enough of the research anyway.”
“Shut up,” Atsumu grumbled. “I am not sweet, this is a trade. Your laptop’s a piece of crap, like actually the worst and I--like any normal human being--am doing my part in putting it out of its misery. Basic compassion right here.”
“But, I don’t need a new laptop,” Hinata insisted like he always did. “I’ve got my phone. That’ll work until I get a job.”
Which he was totally going to get. Soon, too. It was just a little harder than he thought when he didn’t really have a great grip on the language yet.
“Hinata, I’m begging you as a friend here, please don’t resort to selling your organs on the black market.”
Hinata rolled his eyes. “I would never do that. I need them for volleyball.”
“Is that seriously the only reason?”
“Think about how long surgery recovery would take,” Hinata teased. “I only have two years here.”
“I worry about you. Like fundamentally.”
Hinata tilted his head. “But what if I could get like super organs instead.”
“Like Terminator?”
“Yeah! I’m pretty sure I read a manga where that happened once.” He paused. “Oh my gosh, Atsumu, imagine how amazing volleyball would be with superpowers!”
“There’s no way the V.League would approve that.” Atsumu breathed in. “But, what if…”
“I’d get super speed,” Hinata broke in excitedly, “or maybe flying. Oh, or super strength! Imagine hitting a spike with super strength!”
“Awesome!” Atsumu’s voice was speeding up. “What if I had one of those specialty powers like super precision or something! It could get around so many blockers; Suna would be so pissed off! I could set the ball anywhere!”
Hinata huffed. “You already do that.”
Atsumu broke off, sounding pleased. “Really?”
“Of course,” Hinata said. “Hey, wait, how was practice? You got to meet the new libero, right?”
“Yeah, Inunaki--he’s pretty cool. He was mainly working with--” Atsumu cut off, “Fuck, Shou, I gotta tell you about this thing Barnes and I did!”
Atsumu started rambling--words choppy and quick as he got deeper into the retelling of practice in a way that had Hinata hanging off every word. In an abstract sense, Hinata knew that he himself was a people person; he’d always been good at making friends and deeply appreciated every single one he was able to hang onto.
He’d never had a friend like Atsumu.

Shuffling the Deck
(Since it’s late, have an entire opening scene)
ooooooo- 30 Years Prior -ooooooo
Once there was a girl who grew up with her grandmother in a barely patched house, closed in by cliffs.
She was a quiet girl, a pretty face and delicate hands always kept clean despite the threadbare clothes that hung more like rags. The girl did not like to play with the other children which was fitting as they didn’t much like to play with her either.
Instead, she liked to read.
And, more than that, she liked to watch the garden.
Which is what she chose to do, one day at eight years old on the same morning a prominent merchant staggered in to see her grandmother--a terrible illness spreading through his veins and blood in his cough.
The girl was fine with blood but didn’t care for coughing so she stayed exactly where she was, laying on her stomach with head propped in hands while she took in the delicate threads of a spider web.
She always thought the webs were the prettiest part of the garden. They were so very thin and frail that one could barely notice them until they got up close. And, then, once they saw them, they could see the patterns and shapes so carefully woven as if by an artisan.
Sometimes, she even saw the spider.
Sometimes, she tried to get it to crawl to her hand.
It never did though. No matter what she did. The spider was too cautious, too scared of what it believed had power over it.
That was how spiders worked, really. They spun their masterpieces with so much care and precision and, then, they waited patiently for the art to be observed.
The girl was not the only one who found the spider web this morning.
A fly had come across the threads first--likely by accident but the girl liked to imagine that it was the beauty that had drawn the fly in the same as it had done her.
She wondered if the fly still appreciated the art of the web.
It was still alive.
She watched it struggle. Its wings beat uselessly, its many legs trapped in the delicate threads, and a buzzing cry sounding so frantic for such a small creature.
For a moment, she debated on saving it.
She could, of course.
But, that would mean tearing down the gorgeous web that she adored.
But, that would mean the spider may starve and there would be no new web tomorrow.
And, besides, why did she care about dirtying her hands for the sake of a dying fly.
The door of the cottage opened and the girl glanced up idly.
The merchant was stumbling out, gratitude and lavish promises on his breath and a healthy glow back in his cheeks. Her grandmother was smiling kindly, accepting the praise yet turning down the offers same as she always did until eventually the merchant went away.
The girl looked back to the web.
The fly was dead, quickly being wrapped up by the spider to save for later.
She turned back to her grandmother. “He was rich, you know? I heard the other kids talking about him in town. His shipping business goes all the way up to the wealthy islands in the north. If you let him do even half the things he offered, we could live in a mansion and you wouldn’t have to hurt your fingers so much mending clothes.” The tone wasn’t accusing, merely curious. “Why did you say no?”
“Oh, my dear,” Her grandmother leaned down to kiss her hair and the girl allowed it, “because our powers are a gift. They’re not meant to be hoarded and offered for a price. They’re meant to be shared. Besides,” the woman sighed as she watched the road, “what kind of price would that be? Who would I be to demand it? Those who are desperate--for their lives, for those they love--would pay anything. They’d do anything. Who could ever put a price on such a weight? It’s beyond human measure.”
She smiled down at her granddaughter. “Do you understand, my darling Mimi?”
Maemi frowned before nodding, looking down at the spider web.
“Yes, I understand.”
There was no way to know what would have happened if the old woman took up the merchant’s offer. Likely she never would have. She was not that type of person. All that there was to know is that the grandmother and the little girl remained at the patched up cottage, just like they had the girl’s whole life and her grandmother’s life before hers.
They were there six months later when the oceans swelled and brought the waves into shore.
They were not both there after.
Six months later, a man and a girl waded through water as they searched a broken down cottage for survivors.
Well, the man searched at least.
The girl had stopped beside a tree, tall and strong enough to survive a tsunami.
On the bottom branch, at the lowest hanging twig, was a spider’s web just barely managing not to be swept into the water.
The spider was still alive.
But, it wouldn’t be for long.
It struggled, trying to climb up faster even as the bottom of its beautiful web was destroyed by the current.
For a moment, she debated on saving it.
She could, of course.
So, she did.
She snapped a twig from another branch and held it out for the spider to crawl, too. It did willingly, anything to avoid the water below.
It had never crawled to her hand before.
Not like it did now when it was desperate for life.
Maemi watched her dear spider crawl into her open hand.
And, then, she plunged her hand into the water and watched her dear spider drown.
“Yes, grandmother, I understand completely.”

I’m finally getting hitched Tying The Knot Official Words
Wedding Vows
by roy harper, putting the laughter in manslaughter since 1983
A couple years ago, you asked me why I loved you, and I said “I-I don’t know.” Except you weren’t really happy with that answer, I could tell, so I tried to put it into nicer words. I mean, I’ve loved a lot of people in my life, or at least I thought I did. Look how that turned out. And, you know, I kind of write them off when they leave me, or when I leave them, because obviously that means it couldn’t have been love in the first place. But then I know that’s a big fat fucking lie because I still remember all of them, still remember exactly how it felt to tumble head over heels. So maybe they reason they stayed with me forever, despite one of us leaving, has to do with them and not me? And I was about halfway through this awful explanation when Dick gave us a call, told us that dealer we were tracking had just put his dirty little hands in Bludhaven, so we went to go deal with that.
Both of us were glad that conversation was over, and I’m pretty sure you forgot all about it. But I didn’t. I never forgot about it, and I realized I never really answered your question. So, here goes.
I mean, I thought I was so smart when you met me. Sure, I was at my absolute lowest. But I was 25 and reckless, and the heroin had me feeling like a real person for the first time, you know? A human being, with the kind of secrets a grown-up kept, telling the kind of lies grown-ups told. And I thought I loved the way grown-ups loved. Always on the move, always leaving. Because it was either leave or get left. And I thought that was love. And I thought that was a brilliant idea. I was all dark and tough and had this tragic backstory, and I thought I was fucking irresistible, but only for a night. I thought I was fucking irresistible for a night, and after that I wasn’t worth shit.
Now, I’m looking back at 25 year old me and the only thought going through my head was, what an asshole. Just, everything about me was supremely dickish. But most of all, it was the way I treated relationships. Do you remember that time you, me, and Kori went to that carnival? And Kori won that strength competition and we got free cotton candy? And I just gorged myself on candy floss, man. I was worse that Wally used to be, back in the day. And then we went on all those carnival rides and I thought to myself, I’d be fine. I run around jumping off rooftops with grappling arrows, and I used to practice marital arts with Dick Grayson. Motion sickness doesn’t happen to me. And then like half an hour later I was puking my guts out and you stood there and laughed at me? That. That’s how I treated love. I gobbled up everything I could get, and it was way more than I could handle, and then I’d throw it all up and run away.
I’m not 25 anymore, but it feels like I’m still running. Except I can’t get away with what I used to do, ‘cause Kori can hear my fucking heartbeat and you check my arms for track marks all the time and Dick bribed his way into being my second emergency contact after you. So I hide away in my room and sort of melt onto my sofa. But not the good melting, like the way I melt into your mouth like you snipped all my strings. The gross kind of melting where I’m curled up onto the couch and I just wanna hack all my hair off with a knife and it feels like my brain is leaking all over the sofa and I know you killed most of my old dealers but I wanna bring them back to life because just one more hit, I just need one more hit, and I wanna drink myself into a rage but you locked away all the alcohol with a bat-lock that even I can’t break. Figures. It’s funny. You’ll shoot yourself in the neck before you go to Bruce for anything, but if it’s for me, you’ll swallow your pride in a second and get whatever the hell you need.
I guess I’m just scared. I’m scared that I’m imaginary. I’m scared I’ll always end up reinventing myself every day to spare other people the trouble of having to do that for me. That what I want everyone to see always takes precedent to who I really am. I’m scared that I’ve finally lost it, that I’m crazy, that I’ve finally gone mad. But I’m even more scared that I’m perfectly sane. Because if I’m sane, then what excuse do I have? What excuse do I have for treating people the way I do, like they’re problems that I have to solve or explain or else I’ll just fall behind everyone else.
And that’s where you come in. Fuck, Jay. That’s, that’s when you came in.
I tried to word vomit that last part to you one night when you thought I was drunk and I thought you were drunk but neither of us had had a drop, and we hid behind the curtain of alcohol to have a heart to heart. And you told me people don’t have to be solved or explained. We’re all just ghost stories, and maybe we should just try to stay that way. Because we spend our days doing wonderful things, horrible things, and sometimes there’s no reason behind it. Or, wait, fuck, no. There is a reason. But that reason’s too simple and too straightforward to really be satisfying, you know? And then we keep forgetting the lesson that we learned and re-mystifying these problems that we already solved because deep down we don’t actually want to figure out why we love each other but hurt each other and-
Fuck. Sorry, Jaybird. This was supposed to be a simple answer to a simple question.
I think. Um. No, I don’t think. I know. I know I love you because I have to.
There’s no “why” about it. Any more than there’s a reason why Kori loves the dew drops that gather in the morning grass, or why that old hag in the apartment next to us can’t keep a plant alive for the life of her. I mean, I guess there is a reason. There’s always a reason, there’s always a “why.” I don’t really understand it, though. And you know how much that bothers me, you gotta know how much I hate that. Maybe if I dug around in myself for a bit, really thought some stuff through, talked to some people I thought I was done talking to, I’d figure it out. I’d figure out where all this love comes from. What it’s for.
But then the question would be answered. Why do I love you? Boom, I’d have an explanation. The ghost story would be over. And there’s really no point in telling a ghost story that has an ending, all nice and neat and wrapped up in a little package.
Right now, I think I’m finally at a place where I can just let it be. It’s just you and me. Me sleeping ‘till noon, then waking up to see you in my kitchen, looking like a fucking greek god reincarnated, a smile on your face that I don’t think anyone else but me gets to see, flipping an omelette with the same ease and grace that you flip knives. Me in fiddling with a couple spare parts, adding on to my arrows, and you either sliding up behind me, wrapping your arms around my waist and whispering in my ear how good I look in this old tank top or you throwing a greasy rag at my face and laughing at how it messed up the bun I had my hair put up in and telling me to wash up, dinner’s in 10. The two of us crowding around a set of blueprints, scheming and figuring out how to best hurt this one greedy asshole and send him down the highway to hell. And you honestly know all my secrets, all the dark thoughts I had when I was doped up and hating the world and everyone in it. And I’m the only one who knows what really happened in that funky green goo you call a Lazarus Pit, I’m the only one who knows what you went through under the League. The fact that we don’t have any secrets gives me this feeling in my chest, it’s warm and golden and sorta like how you feel with Dick Grayson smiles at you, except this time I think I caused it.
I just hope to god I’m right when I say “I love you.”
‘Cause I do. Jason. I love you. I just, fuck. I like being around you. And for the first time in a long while, I don’t think I’m going anywhere.
Fuck. That was stupid. This barely even made sense anyway.

🌗 💕 🌍 🎤 for the ask <3 <3
THANK U SO MUCH FOR THE ASK!
🌗 fluff or angst?
why it is always fluff or angst but never hurt/comfort????? i want my hurt/comfort guys that's all i ask,
(angst)
💕 favorite ship to write?
iorhfui honestly i don't think I have a favorite ship to write?? like, in general i like writing ship and i find them all interesting to write odifh it depends how much i like this particular ship i guess????
🌍fave type of au to write?
uuuuuh... any au? no but really, they all can be interesting as long as i have the ideas to go with it odfih
BUT in general i like modern au/no capes au (depending on the fandom), i also like fantasy au veeery much. I recently discovered my love for some fairy tales au (wait, not so recently actually now that i think about that)... like all of that is so much fun to write. AND!!! the worldbuilding!!! i love the worldbuilding!!
so, yeah. i'm staying with these one!
... except if canon divergence works..... i do like writing about it....
🎤fave line in a fic you wrote?
oh seriously i had to go find a fic and a line odufhu
SINCE IT'S LIKE THAT HERE I'LL PUT MORE THAN ONE
“So,” said Ashley, swallowing hardly on her breath. “You have two moms, and a dad. It's nice.” Not what she expected, but not unheard of.
“Five,” corrected Lian.
“... Five?”
“Yes. Five dads.”
I just really like this one bc it's very funny to me. It's from one of my WIP called "titans' babies vs the world", and in this one you have Lian talking about her parents lmao. Talking about that, here's Bobby talking about their parents as well:
“Yeah. The one who was with dad before, the dad who's Mar'i's dad dad and kind of mom's twin – or, well, they tell everyone they are even if they aren't really, I don't know, it's complicated – and now mom is with mom and they love each other very much. Like dad love mom and mom but in another way, you know?”
If it's extra confusing, it's the point LMAO. I just love these kids so much.
Stephanie flourishes on the road, cheeks reds from the wind and smiling, hands calloused under the work, her bag still light on her hips. This curse is turning into a blessing, even if she doesn’t say it out loud, even if she barely allow herself the thought.
But, for the first time since her mother’s death and what she feels is forever, Stephanie is truly happy.
This one is from another WIP!! A Fairy Tale AU with Steph as the main character :D idk, i just really like the way it flows, maybe it's just me lmao
Dick led the way toward the gardens, keeping Kori’s hand in his. The moon reflected on Kori’s hair in a bright, eerie way. He loved it.
It wasn’t too warm outside despite the summer night; a light breeze was creeping around and chilling the air in a pleasant way. The stars were shining.
Dick still had a ring in his pocket.
listen i'm a romantic at heart... i just really like this part. AND YES it's also for another one of my WIP. Well technically not WIP since it's finished but on its way to be betaed lmao
The last time Tim had seen him was years ago, when Jason was still Robin and Tim a stalker following the Batman and his allies. In his death, he somehow managed to grow up to be tall and bulky, towering close to Bruce’s height - and weight. All in all, Jason was terrifying, extremely competent, and there was no way for Tim to beat him in a fight.
After all, Tim knew that fighting wasn’t his strong suit, despite - or in spite - of all the training he had been put through. But, well, everyone said he had one thing for himself, and it was his brain. Or making wonderful plans on the spot, just like Kon told him two hours ago during their tag game. (That they won, for the record.)
Now was the perfect time to discover if Tim Drake could outsmart Jason Todd.
i just love it because it screams that Tim is about to do something very stupid lmao. AND!! this one is actually from a published fic, aka Checkmate :fingerguns:
“Because you’re Robin.” [...] “And Robin was me. My family colors. My name. I created it to honor my family - and by putting on this costume, you became a part of my family. You became mine, Jase. Not Bruce’s. Not anyone else’s. And you still are, will always be. Robins are a family, and Bruce has no say in that.”
Jason - Jason’s heart was breaking and healing at the same time, full of tiny shards of glass and soft bandages.
[...]
Jason never realized the consequences of being Robin, but this - being part of Dick’s family - was probably the best of all. It was worth it - worth everything else.
listen i'm extremely emotional about Jason and Dick and especially this fic. Anyway, it's from A Nest of Love and Robins, this one is posted too!
Wally missed it, sometimes. Missed the thrill of being Kid Flash, of being a Titan, of fighting and having movie nights with his best friends. When he looked at Bart, at Conner, at Cassie, at Cissie, at Tim – Wally wondered whose legacy they're carrying on. Of course, people automatically thought it was the Justice League's ; but Wally watched them and remembered and thought, 'Maybe they got it from us, maybe they're our legacy'. And that was a weird thought – because the Titans had never been about having a legacy or being one, but always been about being a group of friends and becoming a family in between two punches and a slice of pizza.
this one make me emotional too. I honestly don't have anything better to say, i just... really love the whole things. It comes from Watch Your Past!
Okay now last one but i'm really in love with this whole fic and yes i know i'm the one who wrote it and????
But- It was nice, too, in it's own way. They grew up together, faced death and life together. They knew each other so much they couldn't really hide anything, and sometimes it felt like they were an extension of his own soul.
He had thought, once upon a time, that maybe he was a tiny bit in love with his best friends. He loved them more than anything, after all; that didn't really change, he just added more people to this category. Their children. His siblings.
It hadn't been true, though – not entirely. Because if his interest in them wasn't romantic, it didn't mean he couldn't be in love with them. There are a lot of ways to be in love with people. Maybe it was just another one.
It didn't really matter, in the end, as long as they could stay together – in this life and the next.
[...]
They laughed, loud and clear – like all those years ago in Titans Tower or in the middle of a fight or standing proud against their enemies, mentors, whoever would try to go against them. They laughed, freely and with not a care for the world around them, like they still owned it after all these years. They laughed like they were young and innocent, ancient and tired, alive and free.
They laughed, loud and clear, in the same heartbeat and soul.
[...]
(Maybe they were all a little tiny bit in love, in the end.)
idk it's kind of poetic and full of feelz for me, so, yeah. It's from the fic home is where the heart settle, about the Fab Five!
AND THAT'S IT. Thanks again for the ask, ask list here!

The Greatest Miracle
This fandom does not have enough BartAdrien content like, seriously. They're the cutest thing to ever exist. Two sunshine children. Please love them. Please love my greatest creation. Anyway, have some cuteness and fluff and (possible? I have no idea if it is funny) humour for a change! Maribat March day 22, rare pair
Ao3
This is Maribat -- Don’t like; Don’t read
____________________________
“Please don’t.”
“Oh, Adrien. I totally will.”
❋❋❋
“Hey, Bart, give my tablet back! I need it for my speech!”
“Nooopppe! I may not be able to open it but I know what kind of things there are! Kon, catch!”
“Thanks, Bart. Have fun. You forgot I’m also doing the speech. You literally asked me to.”
“Dang it.”
❋❋❋
Marinette snorted as Adrien took one look at her before burying his face in his hands as she stood up, Tim and Conner following suit. She grabbed the microphone from the stand nearby and blew a kiss at Adrien, winking.
“Good afternoon everyone! It’s a beautiful day, even more beautiful than Adrien’s hair, and we all know how beautiful his hair is, soooo… Anyway, before I actually get to any important part, I need to say that I asked Adrien if there was anything that I shouldn’t say in any case, and well. He didn’t say anything in particular, I swear. To everyone else, I’m sorry if this makes your idea of Adrien’s supposed put-togetherness just vanish in front of your eyes. I can promise you, it never existed in the first place.
“I can’t believe this day actually came, seeing Adrien get married to someone,” Marinette said, smiling when she heard the quiet “rude much?” coming from Adrien’s direction. “Oh yeah. In case some of you didn’t know, I’m Marinette, Adrien’s best friend, though I’m pretty sure the only ones who don’t know that are from Bart’s side as Adrien has somehow managed to introduce me to his entire family, all of his few friends — and Adrien, before you say anything, you met most of your friends through me, don’t try — and we went to the same school so there’s that as well. Honestly, I think he’s even dragged me to a few family reunions during the years.”
There was laughter in the crowd but it quieted down as soon as Marinette began talking again.
“Adrien and I have gone through thick and thin. There have been liars, bullies, gold-diggers, over-eager wannabe journalists… Well, we’ve probably seen anything you can imagine. We’re siblings in all but blood, rather literally. My parents even adopted him after Gabitch — I mean, Gabriel, all parents of little children, you did not hear that, and neither did you, Bart, Wally and Dick, but like seriously, if there's anyone that deserves to be called out for being a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad father in a wedding, it's that man —, was arrested. It was easier since that meant he wouldn’t need to transfer schools.”
Marinette tilted her head and bit the inside of her cheek. “Wait a second. Tim, dear, did you have the tablet connected to the projector already? I want the photos, like, five minutes ago.”
Tim laughed at her. “Cuppie, you started the speech less than three minutes ago. But yeah, it’s connected.”
“Shush, you. Thanks! I’ll say when I want the pictures. Anyway. I met Adrien when we were like, 13, and it really didn’t start great. I hated him at first. Like, honest to God hated him. You can imagine how the rest of the day went. Somehow, he cleared the idea I had of him within a few hours though, so we became friends. He’s the best friend I’ve ever had, always been there for me through everything.
“I don’t think I’ve got too much time to speak even though I’d absolutely love to do that for the rest of the day because Adrien’s gonna murder me if I try, so I’ll just tell you one of my favourite things with him. Who everyone knew him on some level when he was 17?”
Maybe a quarter of the room raised their hands.
“Great. How many of you noticed he had a crush then?”
Less than half of those people raised their hands, though rather hesitant.
“Fine, Adrien, you win, but that just means they didn’t spend enough time with you. Anyway. He had a crush on our dear Bart over here though he kept denying it for ages. Tim, the pictures, please? Because I’ve got a compilation of how he looked like when I felt like pointing the fact out to him and after I had actually informed him of his crush. I have no idea how he didn’t realise it right away.”
There were pictures of clearly lovesick Adrien, looking at something (a lot of the time it seemed to be his phone) the same way he had looked at Bart only some time earlier.
Someone in the crowd yelled “he was so whipped oh my god, did he really not realise?” when they got to the fifth photo.
Adrien had hidden his face in Bart’s hair.
He was lucky Bart’s hair was like it was.
Bart, though, he was laughing.
“Yeah, yeah he was, and me neither. He literally had a gay panic after he met Bart for the first time — trust me when I say that he was royally screwed already from day one. And yet. Yet. Considering Adrien had known me for only a day or two when he decided he was in love with me when we were like 13 and actually declared this in front of a whole bunch of people, it’s so funny how it took him actual months to admit he was actually in love with Bart. Fun fact, the three of us—” Marinette pointed at herself and then at Tim and Kon on her left, “still have a group chat full of plans to get those two together because they were so oblivious, especially Adrien, and also idiots. God, do I love them, but I swear they caused me more grey hair than the wild kid I babysat as a teenager ever did.”
Tim snatched the microphone from Marinette’s hands, pecking her cheek quickly. Marinette stuck her tongue out at him but didn’t complain about the interruption. It wasn’t like she had anything important left to say anyway. For now.
“Yes, listen to my beautiful and wonderful wife over here. They were so frustrating, always talking about the other like they had hung the moon and the stars on the night sky but neither realised they liked the other until it was pointed out to them. Well. According to Mari, it took until Kon and I got Bart to realise he liked Adrien, which eventually led to him confessing, that Adrien recognised his own feelings. It’s ridiculous, but oh so amusing to tell now.
“So, hello everyone, I’m Tim, one of Bart’s best friends — the other is over there being a loser. I met Bart through Dick and Wally maybe half a year after Bruce started watching over me because my parents were never there, so we must have been seven or eight. I had troubles with befriending other people back then—”
“You still do, Tim.”
“Mari, this is my speech, yours ended already.”
“Yeah, because you stole the mic.”
“Technicalities, technicalities. Anyhow, I had trouble with getting friends around that time, but it was somehow easy to befriend Bart. He was so open, friendly, positive, full of light and determined to befriend you that it was actually impossible to avoid it. After I befriended him, though, I noticed I started getting other friends as well because he made it easier. That’s actually also how I met Mari, the love of my life and my wife, which has me forever thankful to Bart, but that’s a story for another time. Right now, I’m here to tell you how great Bart is and also make fun of him, because isn’t that what best friends are for.
“So, like Mari already said, we had a group chat just because of those two. Favourite ship ever. Not gonna lie, we all shipped them together since the moment we realised how well they would fit together and the only reason today didn’t happen sooner is because this guy here—” Tim pointed at Adrien, “—refused to admit he liked Bart and scoffed every time we tried to suggest it. Yet, every time he made a terrible pun, and we all know he makes a lot of those, it was Bart he looked at first to see if it made him laugh. Always. Not his best friend, Mari. It was Bart.”
That was when Tim lost the microphone — Kon had walked up to them, now behind Tim, and just took it out of his hands. Tim tilted his head backwards and frowned at Kon.
“And Bart. Bart laughed every. Single. Time. Like, regardless of how horrible the pun was that time, and how it should have not made anyone laugh, Bart laughed because he knew it made Adrien smile, and happy Adrien equalled happy Bart equalled happy Adrien. This is why it was so strange they didn’t realise, and this is why them dancing around one another drove me up the wall. Tim and Mari too, I suppose. By the way. Here’s a list of pictures and videos where the aforementioned situation is shown multiple times so that you’ll understand what I mean.”
The (seemingly endless, if Adrien’s mortification was anything to go by) videos and pictures were projected onto a big screen and it seemed that no matter what Adrien thought, everyone else thought them adorable and heart-warming. Everyone. Especially Bart, who had not been aware of said pictures or videos’ existence and was now beaming and nearly jumping up and down in his seat. Marinette could almost swear he was vibrating.
Once they were done showing them, and the roomful of people had stopped cooing at Adrien like he was still that starry-eyed, adorable, baby-faced fool so very in love with Bart (he was), Kon brought the microphone to his lips again. “So yeah. We all had to suffer. And because of that, now you two had to suffer a little too,” he said, snorting.
Shaking his head fondly at the newlywed couple, he smiled. “You know, I have known Bart for nearly my entire life, and I never thought there would come a day I would meet anyone that was as much of a sunshine child as he was. Then we met Adrien.”
Tim nodded in the background, clearly agreeing. Marinette hummed. Kon handed her the microphone as she tapped her foot against the floor with her heel. “Yeah, same here, though the other way around — I thought there couldn’t be anyone I’d call sunshine incarnate other than Adrien, and then there I was, face to face with Bart who I swear glowed when I met him for the first time.”
Marinette sighed, smiled, and walked to Adrien and Bart. “So, Adrien, Bart, I am so immensely proud of you two. I can’t help but be happy whenever I think about you both overcoming so much and deciding to dedicate yourselves to one another and believe me when I say, I am so glad I got to witness you exchanging vows today. I wish all the best for you, as do those two dorks, and remember that we’re all going to be there for you both. You have two souls but a single thought, and two hearts that beat as one. This is the day that now belongs to one of the most beautiful things I have seen in my life and I could not be happier to have gotten to see it happen.” She raised her glass. “A toast to these two fools and to their union! May you always be satisfied!”
Marinette returned to her seat next to Tim and rested her head against his shoulder as he ran his fingers through her hair.
“I’m happy for them,” Marinette whispered, watching as Adrien danced with Bart, leading him, before Bart grabbed Adrien and picked him up before running around the room, presenting him like the greatest miracle ever granted for the humankind to everyone. Marinette squeezed Tim’s hand, smiling at their best friends.
“Same, Cuppie. Same here.”

the times they are a-changin’
Written for @trichoglossus, merry Christmas Kes!!
Okay, so let me just set the scene: this fic takes place during the first Christmas after Jason died, Tim is training to be Robin but not living with Bruce, and Wally’s in college. I think that’s it? So yeah, enjoy the fic!
(AO3)
“You should’ve called,” Wally says (again). “You could’ve spent Christmas with me; my family would’ve loved to see you.”
“I didn’t want to take over your Christmas,” Dick says (again). “And it was fine. I caught up on sleep, ate some Chinese, and watched an animal doc. I had a great Christmas. Really.” Well, maybe not great. There was plenty of moping and self-pity and wondering how his life had gone to shit sprinkled between those other activities.
Today was better.
“You still shouldn’t have had to spend Christmas alone just because Bruce decided to be an ass.” Dick laughs. “He is! But he still could’ve made an effort. I mean, who can’t put off fighting with their kid for one day?”
Dick sighs, sobering. “It’s a little more complicated than that.” Fights with Bruce always were. Dick says stupid shit and takes things too far, and Bruce. Bruce is an ass. But he’s also grieving, and Dick should’ve known better than to bring up Jason.
“I think my point stands,” Wally scoffs. He’s always been the first to defend Dick, even when he doesn’t deserve it. “Besides, did I mention that it was Christmas?”
“You did. Several times. But to be fair, Bruce has never really been that into Christmas,” Dick points out. And not that Dick is obsessed with the holiday or anything, but there are parts he likes. Used to like. God, how things have changed. “It wouldn’t be shocking if he forgot why I went over there in the first place.” Lies.
“Whatever. I’m heading over in a bit and we can have Christmas 2, so prepare yourself to get festive.”
“Okay.” Dick looks around his apartment. It’s a mess and there aren’t any decorations up. Not that Wally will mind, Wally’s very good at not minding things like that. Still, he should turn on the lights or open the blinds at least. Wally always gets this sad, concerned look on his face when he realizes Dick has just been shuffling around in the dark. “Love you.”
“Love you, too, babe.” And Wally hangs up.
Dick puts his phone back in his pocket and opens the blinds in the living room. He looks around and gathers up the dirty dishes from the past few days and dumps them in the sink, then he collects the empty takeout containers from yesterday and throws them out. He also grabs the throw blanket off of the floor and drapes it over the back of the couch. Finally, Dick goes to the hall closet and pulls out two boxes: one a standard, pre-wrapped box with a bow on top and the other a small, thin box that he wrapped himself. He pockets the smaller box and places the larger one on the newly-cleared coffee table.
Festive—check.
A knock on the door tells him Wally’s here and he feels a smile tug at his lips.
Dick unlocks the door and pulls it open. Wally’s standing there with a box of his own, a paper bag, and a backpack slung loosely over one shoulder.
“Merry Christmas,” Wally greets, kissing Dick for good measure.
When their lips part, Dick gestures for Wally to step inside and offers his own, “Merry Christmas.”
Wally takes off his outerwear and then sets his gift on the table next to Dick’s. He holds up the bag for Dick to see. “Aunt Iris sent me home with a ton of leftovers, so we have a bit of a feast.”
Dick grins. “Awesome.”
“You got your oven fixed, right?” Wally asks, already heading toward the kitchen.
“Uh-huh. A few weeks ago. You can now turn it on without setting off the fire alarm,” Dick says proudly. “But we can just microwave it; it’s not a big deal.”
“Oh, you poor confused child,” Wally sighs. “Leftovers get the deluxe treatment on Christmas 2.” Then Wally mutters in mock disbelief, “Microwave, honestly.”
Dick holds back a laugh. “Sorry, I have no idea what I was thinking.”
“Clearly.”
The two of them work together to figure out how long everything will need to be reheated and plan it so that everything finishes at the same time. Dick’s apartment doesn’t have a dining room, let alone a table to go in one, so they set up their dinner on the kitchen counter, eating it next to each other on stools. It’s delicious, and Wally made a good call by turning down Dick’s microwave suggestion. Still, it reminds Dick of what he missed out on yesterday.
(But it’s not the food really, it’s the family that he would’ve eaten it with.)
With Wally there, they manage to eat all of the leftovers. Wally puts on some Christmas music while they load the dishwasher and clean the pots and pans that aren’t dishwasher safe. It’s funny—little moments like this, but not romantic outings or anniversaries, always make Dick think about how nice it will be to settle down with Wally in a few years. Dick has found plenty of unpleasantries in the adult world, but that is one aspect that he’s still looking forward to.
“What are you planning on doing for New Year’s?” Wally asks, drying off the last pan. “You know, with recent events and all.”
Dick shrugs, taking the pan and putting it back in the cabinet. “I’ll probably still go to the New Year’s party Bruce got roped into hosting. Bruce should be cooled down by then, and if not, he’s in public so he has to pretend to be for appearances. Plus, Babs and Tim will be there, so I won’t be completely alone even if Bruce does decide to avoid me all night. Why?”
“I was just going to say that I talked to Aunt Iris and she said that she’s more than happy to have you over. M’gann is also doing her New Year’s thing with the Team,” Wally reminds him. “Basically, if you decide not to go to Gotham, you have other options. I get sad thinking about you sitting here, all by yourself with the lights off. Especially on a holiday.”
Damn it. “It’s okay, really. And I’m not going to be alone, but thank your aunt for the invitation. Maybe next year.”
“Sure,” Wally says, smiling softly.
“You could still come to the Wayne party for a little bit. It starts at eight.”
“Will I have to rent a tux?” Wally asks.
“Uh-huh, but I can pay for it.”
“I’ll still have to wear it, though.”
“That is usually how it works, yeah.” Dick lets his fingers twirl around Wally’s hair for a second. “I’ll be there. And so will trays and trays of finger foods.”
Wally grabs Dick’s waist and pulls him close. “I do love fancy finger food.”
Dick closes the gap with a quick kiss. “No pressure, just think about it. I’m thinking of spending a few days there if Alfred isn’t too mad at me for ditching Christmas.”
“That’ll be good for you.”
Dick lays his head on Wally’s shoulder. “Yeah?”
Wally nods. “When you and Bruce aren’t at each other’s throats, you always seem lighter after a visit. And you’re always lighter after you talk with Alfred.”
Wally clearly has not been around to see Dick after Alfred’s just reprimanded him, but Dick gets his point anyway.
“Just don’t let this fight between you and Bruce fester. It’s not good for either of you,” Wally tells him.
Dick sighs and pulls away. Wally doesn’t even know what the fight was about; Dick hasn’t shared any of the details and he’s not going to. “I don’t want to talk about this.”
“And I’m not asking you to.” Wally places his hands on Dick’s shoulders and looks at him seriously. “I’m just saying—and look, I’m not defending him at all, you know that—you’ve both had a hard year. You two understand each other in a way no one else can, and I think you need each other to get through this. There’s no reason to make it harder on yourself.”
Wally doesn’t say you’ve been known to do stupid stuff after fights, he doesn’t say I don’t want you to get hurt doing something stupid, he doesn’t say I know you’ve been depressed and I don’t want to lose you.
Dick nods. “You’re right. We’ll work things out.” Wally has always been good at making convincing speeches.
Wally smiles at him.
“So. Any family drama you wanna share?”
“Time for presents?”
oOo
“I have another one for you,” Dick tells Wally. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out the small wrapped box, handing it to Wally.
Wally takes it and tears the paper off. Lifting the lid, he finds one small, metallic object: a key. He picks it up with a smile on his face and turns to Dick.
“I know most people in our business don’t exactly need keys, but—” Dick shrugs.
Wally cups Dick’s face and kisses him. “I love it. It’s very sweet.”
Dick continues, clarifying, “I’m not asking you to move in—I know we’ve talked about it before, and when we’re both ready to be long-term housemates, we’ll pick a place together. Think of this as a kind of stepping stone.”
A stepping stone because as much as Dick wants to live with Wally at some point, he doesn’t think he’s quite ready for that—neither of them are, honestly. But a first step? Wally leaving a toothbrush and some clothes here? He can do that, is thrilled to do that if Wally is willing.
“It’s a great idea,” Wally says, and there’s this sweet emotion behind it that Dick can’t get enough of. “One second.” He stands up and zips to the front door, returning with his keys. Dick watches as Wally works the new key onto the keychain. “How does it look?”
Right. “Definitely one of my top five keychains.”
“Shut up.” But Wally’s smile doesn’t drop and his eyes are still sparkling. He puts the keys away and then he’s back, glued to Dick’s side. Just as he should be.
“So. What else do you do on Christmas 2?”
“Hmm . . . we could watch Home Alone while I beat your ass at Parcheesi?”
And doesn’t that make Dick feel nostalgic? For much of their youth, they spent winter break together, sledding and, of course, watching movies while playing the various board games stashed around the manor. God, how things have changed. But not all for the worse, Dick is starting to realize.
“I’d love to make you eat those words, but I don’t think I have any board games, actually. I have a deck of cards somewhere though. We could play Rummy?” Dick suggests instead.
“You’re on.”
They put the movie on and start out sitting across from each other, Dick’s feet quickly finding their way into Wally’s lap. An hour in, though, round two of Rummy is forgotten on the coffee table and the movie plays to sleeping viewers. Dick and Wally have wormed their way next to each on the couch, Dick’s throw pulled over the two of them. Dick hasn’t felt this peaceful in a long time. This right.
Yes, good changes indeed.

Dance with Me
SpeedDemon first ball! Enjoy!
-----------------------------
Being a part of the Wayne family meant mandatory attendance to all galas and fundraiser balls. While most of them have discovered plenty of ways to stay entertained, they still dread the nights to come. Waiting for Cass and the other girls to come downstairs, the Batbrothers mill around the foyer, all cleaned up.
“Remind me to thank Mar’i again for watching Dali llama.” Jason resists the urge to run a hand through his gelled hair.
“’Course,” Dick chuckles, “She said it’s more fun than schmoozing with rich guys. Plus something about Damian being annoying as hell about it lately.”
The youngest Robin mumbles to himself, not paying attention to his brothers. Damian fiddles with his cufflink for the third time in five minutes.
“Aye, Chaparro, chill.” Jason yawns. “Not like you haven’t been to a thousand of these already.”
“It’s not that.” Damian keeps fiddling. His brothers wouldn’t understand. Tonight’s more than another gala. It’s the first gala that he actually has a proper date to. Well, a date that he wants to go with, not just escorting Mar’i. However, since Mar’i started dating Kent, the super had taken over that duty.
“You know, baby bat,” Dick teases, “It’s ok if you’re nervous.”
Damian’s jade eyes narrow at his older brother, “I don’t do ‘nervous,’ Grayson.”
“Oh, no. The heir doesn’t do nervous,” The teasing in Jason’s voice is undeniable, “No, what he does is sneak around for a few months with a certain—”
“Finish that sentence, Todd, and they won’t find a piece of you big enough to resurrect.” Years ago, there would have been a hell of a lot more venom behind his words. Now, the four brothers manage a bit of a laugh.
“Dami?”
Damian looks up to the top of the stairs, breath catching. The royal blue fabric seems to float off her freckled skin. Her fiery hair, normally tied up and out of the way, has been loosely curled with a small braided crown. As she descends the staircase with soft click-clack of her heels, Damian remains frozen.
Holy shit. This is his girlfriend
“Damian?” Tim snaps his fingers in front of his little brother’s face. “Irey, I think you broke him.”
“-tt-” Damian clicks his tongue, offering a hand to Irey as she steps off the staircase. “Nuri. You look…I feel as if stunning is too small of a word.”
Irey turns red at the compliment but still smiles at him. “Thanks, Dames. Milagro designed it based off a dress Diana Prince wore a long time ago.”
“I think it looks better on you.” Damian brings her hands up, kissing the back of them, before offering her his arm. Irey happily accepts it and lets him escort her out the door to the limo.
“Who is he and what did he do with the pain in the ass kid?” Jason asks his brothers. Dick snorts and claps him on the back.
“C’mon, Jaybird. Don’t want to leave them alone too long.”
The gala is as extravagant as every other one the siblings have been to. Bruce gave them the normal riot act on the way there—ignoring the fact two of his sons are fathers themselves at this point. His kids nod and give noncommittal answers as normal. Irey figdets in her seat, messing with her skirt. Until Damian takes her hand and squeezes it.
Damian can’t help but smile when Irey’s breath catches walking into the venue.
“Oh my gosh…” She looks around at the crowd. “This is… otherworldly.”
Damian notices the slight shake to her voice and slides his arm around her waist, “Just like any other mission. Only tonight we don’t have to worry about dying.”
“Why, Damian, is that you?” A sweet elderly woman approaches the young couple. Damian smiles politely at the stranger. “You’ve grown up so much since I last saw you. Looking more and more like your father.”
“With a bit of my mother as well.” Damian gestures to the woman, “Lady Estella Dubois, might I introduce—”
“Iris.” Irey shakes the older woman’s hand, “I’m Iris West.”
“The reporter?”
“That’s my aunt, Iris West-Allen.” Irey explains. “My father idolized her so when I was born, he gave me her name.”
“And who are your parents, Iris?” Lady Dubois kind tone eases a bit of the tension in Irey’s shoulder.
“My mother’s Linda Park-West, head of sports at Central City Picture News. My father, Dr. Wallace West, works at S.T.A.R. Labs on Theoretical Physics.” The pride for her parents is undeniable. Watching them struggle since she was little to where they are now does that to a kid.
“Well, it’s lovely to meet you.” Lady Dubois glances over at Dick chatting with a rather fat gentleman. “Richard! How’s your daughter?”
“Are you alright, my love?” Damian tucks a stray curl behind her ear. “You seem…on edge?”
“I’m ok, Damian. Promise.” He doesn’t believe the smile she gives him but doesn’t get the chance to argue. He can’t stand the schmoozing all the older socialites or the incessant flirting from the younger women. Never has really, the only difference is he’s much better at hiding the annoyance now.
“How goes it, little brother?” Tim asks as they grab drinks.
“You’d think introducing my girlfriend would deter the suggestions of private meetings.” Damian rolls his eyes, sipping the punch. He notices Irey standing with a group of girls he’s seen at a few other events. That look on her face is familiar, but he can’t place it.
“I’ve introduced my husband before,” Tim snorts. “Just had the other non-straight guys hitting on me for Bruce’s money.”
“You make it sound like Father’s exploting us.”          “Not directly. Just the cost of business.” Tim shrugs. Damian sees Irey heading outside, too fast for her to be ok.
Oh.
She wanted to run. That’s where he knows that look.
“Excuse me.” Weaving through the crowd, Damian makes his way outside. Irey paces back and forth on the balcony, tugging at her dress, messing with her hair. “Nuri?”
“I’msorryiwastryingtobethebestgirlfriendforyouandimfuckingeverythingupandyoutotallyhatemerightbecauseimnotliketheothergirlsherewhoall—”
“Irey.” Damian gently takes her hands. “Breathe, my love. You’re talking too fast.”
“I’m sorry.” Irey can’t meet his eyes. “I’m trying to be the girlfriend you need me to be—”
“Girlfriend I need you to be? What are you talking about?”
“I was trying to be the girl they’d expect you to date. Important, connected, better.” She pulls her hands away, crossing them across her belly. “I heard some of the girls talking. Asking what you saw in me. A few of them guessed why you were with me…”
“Irey…” Damian keeps his hands to himself. “Irey, please look at me.”
It takes her a minute, but she finally looks up at him.
“I’m with you because I love you. I love you because you’re intelligent and funny and kind and charming and a million other things. They don’t see how you make me smile. Or the way the sunlight makes your eyes shine. Or that sleepy pout you get first thing in the morning.” Irey smiles a bit at that. “I’m truly sorry if I made you feel like you had to change.”
“It wasn’t you. The way your dad was talking earlier, about not embarrassing everyone—”
“That’s because Grayson used to jump from chandilers, Todd would get into fist fights, and Drake would take in too much information. Cassandra’s slightly better but she’s still as chaotic as the others.” Damian shrugs. “I was an angry little shit.”
Irey breathes out a laugh, putting her hands on his chest. He covers the one over his heart with one of his own. Irey smiles softly, “How do you always manage to make me feel better?”
“I do believe it’s a part of my job description as boyfriend.” He holds her hips. “May I request something?”
“What?”
“Please stop introducing yourself as Iris. I didn’t fall in love with Iris; I fell in love with Irey.”
“I think I can do that.” With her heels on, it’s easier to kiss him. Even all dressed up, he still tastes like Damian—Tea with a bit of honey. Irey pulls back. “I love you, Damibear.”
“And I you, Nuri.” Damian looks back inside. “I’m not sure if you want to leave yet, but I was hoping to steal you for a dance or two.”
Irey looks inside. The girls from earlier watch them with sharp glares. Part of her wants to run. Run fast, run far, and don’t stop running. No one can hurt her when she runs. No one can catch her. Touch her. That part has always been the one she gives into.
But another part of her looks to Damian.
When her dad told her about lightning rods, she’d scoffed and written it off. But being with Damian, she understood what Wally meant about feeling grounded. It wasn’t a trapped feeling like she’d imagined it being. It’s secure, sure, but just as freeing as running is. Only this time, she has something to run to.
“Promise not to get mad if I step on your toes?”
Damian laughs and kisses her again. “I promise.”
They head back inside, Irey holding onto Damian’s arm. Together they move to the dance floor, heads held high. Irey laughs when Damian bows to her, curtsying in return. Pulling her close, he rests his forehead on hers. The soft music washes over them. Irey picks up the others in the room, watching them dance.
“Be right back,” Irey kisses him, walking away. Damian holds onto her hand until she’s too far and has to let go. He hears a group of girls gossiping nearby. He checks his phone, normally able to tune it out, until a question catches his attention.
“What does she have that we don’t?”
Damian turns to them, which makes them panic because they thought they were being quiet. “You want to know what she has that you don’t? Simple. Me.”
Irey stays the night at the Manor. Even though she could have run home in less than five minutes, she never turns down the chance to share a bed with Damian. His soft cotton sheets and warm arms make it hard to stay awake. “Dami?”
“Yeah?” He looks down at her, rubbing easy circles on her back, moving the t-shirt she’d stolen from him side to side. His dark hair still wet from his shower. Irey presses a kiss over his heart, cuddling closer to him.
“I like nights like this.”
“Why?” Callused fingers brush over her freckled cheeks.
“Because you’re more comfy than my pillows at home.”
He chuckles, pulling the covers up over them. “Go to sleep, habibi…”
“Habibi, huh?” He can hear the sleepy smirk in her voice. “Guess I can expect a very good morning?”
         “Hush.”
Irey hears the smile in his voice though, promising something good to come. That’s enough to let her drift to sleep…

batkids and their relationships with their siblings headcanons. under read more because this got fucking LONGGG
dick
dick is the eldest so he doesnt want to bog down his younger siblings with his problems, but if he DOES, he tends to talk to jason about it
dick and cass start to really begin to bond when Cass shows up to dicks gymnastics class for 3rd-6th graders and then cass shows up all the sixth graders and they get frozen yogurt after lmao
dick and tim are Very much thick as thieves. tim is very much like bruce on the Emotional Suppression scale, so dick just really wants to make sure his little brother is safe and happy ALL the time
Duke and Damian are the only two really permanently at the manor anymore, so when dick drops by he tries to do something with both of them. duke frantically zoom calls dick every other week to help him with his his trig homework. dick shows up to dukes high school graduation with literally the BIGGEST SIGN
everyone insists damian is dicks favorite but he does actually genuinely love all his siblings equally, his relationship with damian is just Very different from the others because of the age gap and being dami's primary caretaker for a year. dick babies dami every chance he gets
jason
would sell Dick to satan for One corn chip
him and cass don't have the greatest start to their relationship because cass is very much Against Killing so it takes a while for jason to warm up to her and earn her trust. now, though, jason is competing with steph by showing cass all the classic American Teenager things she missed out on. steph is currently winning but jason is like 98% positive a crunch wrap from taco bell is going to push him over the edge
tim and jason are currently competing over who can solve the most cases in a month. tim is winning. that won't last long.
jason Loves to Big Brother duke its so embarrassing. duke will get out of school and go to his car and jason is SITTING IN THE FRONT SEAT FRANTICALLY WAVING TO GET DUKES ATTENTION. JASON THAT IS MY CAR. signal has one (1) mission with arsenal and arsenal goes hey did you ask that girl to homecoming yet and duke is like I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU.
Damian is proof that Actually, Little Brothers are Pests. Jason fully believes that he was brought back from the dead PURELY to torment damian and he will fulfill this mission at any cost
cassandra
it actually really upset her when Dick didn't accept her at first. she knows her other siblings really adore dick so his lack of trust was really disheartening. it takes dick a while but once he Actually Accepts that cass is going to be a permanent part of their life and oh, wow, dick you really hurt her feelings he really hyperfocuses on bonding with cass for a couple of months which definitely improves their relationship
she really likes jason!! their relationship doesn't start well but because he's close with steph and tim who are cass's top two favorite people to exist ever, cass is like well i GUESS ill hang out with him more. jason is fun to talk to because he always tries his best to explain jokes and give context to what people are talking about (also tim took her to taco bell already but she didn't tell jason she just wanted to hang out)
cass LOVES tim. they just click okay. tim always seems to know when to give her space and when to push and come closer. Tim's "guest room" is just her room lets be real. tim and cass occasionally get mistaken for twins and Cass Loves it.
duke makes cass listen to metal once and cass loses. her. damn. mind. they bond over music a lot because they both Love Music to a degree the others in their family don't.
damian!! damian is her little brother!!! dami isn't As Hostile to cass at first because he is 100% aware cass has the edge in fighting and respects her. cass likes all of his instagram posts and they have a snapchat streak going
tim
tim Loves dick, dick was his first sibling!! he had Very strong hero worship when he first met dick but it mellowed out when tim got older because wow 17 is really not that cool and mature lol. tim has an open invitation to dick's apartment which he does occasionally take advantage of. tim has more than once scared the shit out of wally when wally comes over and wally is convinced they're being robbed (HA) for half a second. i mean. he's not wrong.
listen. tim understands that forgiving the guy who tried to kill you would be a Struggle for some people and it was! definitely! but also at least he can trust jason to, uh, be open about if he doesn't like tim. which is not an assurance he has with other people. so if the guy who tried to kill him tells him tim is cool now then like. maybe tim isn't that bad or annoying a person? also jason arrested a whole gang and won the cases competition but then it created a power vacuum that the whole batfam had to clean up the rest of the month. thanks, jason.
tim LOVES cass. you know how most of the time theres this empty feeling inside you and you just kind of ignore it because you don't know what will fix it or if you do, you know you can't fix it? cass makes that empty feeling feel a little less empty. they just click. tim always tries to travel with cass whenever she leaves gotham.
tim and duke. Tim is actually the sibling who duke goes to whenever he has questions he doesn't want to ask bruce or alfred about, like, life or vigilante-ing or school or college or whatever and Tim is always like yes!! i love Giving Advice and Solving Problems!! tim and duke and jason fill out their college applications together.
tim and damian. LMAO. ROUGH START THAT'S ALL ILL SAY. at some point alfred goes like fuck it. family therapy. and tim and dami are PISSED. tim and damian get along best when they have a common enemy to work against. their relationship gets much better when damian is older and they actually talk about their feelings like emotionally stunted bats. despite how bad their relationship was, tim will ALWAYS protect damian
duke
very much intimidated by dick at first. dick is so much older and has his own job and friends and life and is very much AN ADULT. dick likes to take duke out to do lots of cool stuff (paintball, lasertag, tech exhibitions, concerts, etc). also, dick PERSONALLY introduced duke to superman and is dating THE FLASH. 10/10 awesome big brother.
was intimidated by jason for 0.5 seconds before jason actually opened his mouth and started speaking. jason is literally. So Embarrassing. which is weird because nobody else really seems to feel that way about jason but duke knows he's 100% in the right here. like yeah jason is also An Adult and does Adult Stuff but he's also at the manor like every other weekend???? and he always complains about bruce but always seems to be in the same room bruce is in????? like okay jason. they bond over literature!! jason and duke and alfred will spend literal hours talking about books and duke loves it. duke is the only one who doesn't think jason is funny and jason gets so upset about it lmao.
cass has this one week where she gets really into photography and by virtue of being nearby (and also not nocturnal), duke becomes her victim subject. duke prints out all the pictures and hangs them up in his room (his favorite is one he took when he stole the camera and took a really bad selfie of them together).
tim is closest in age to duke so duke tends to hang around with him a lot. tim introduced duke to his young justice friends and duke is like yes!!! meta-friends!!!! tim really helps duke out with his powers because tim is always like wow i wonder if your powers would work if we did This? can you see farther than other people? is your visible spectrum of light different than other humans? Bruce does the same thing but bruce is boring about it lol.
damian and duke live in the same house and will be in the same room and just send each other social media posts back and forth. they follow each other on instagram and will, OCCASIONALLY, make tik toks together because they're tik tok fiends. each of his siblings have visited his parents once or twice but damian routinely comes with him.
damian
damian gets a special bullet point to say that it took him. forever to come around to the idea of having siblings. he very much believed that he was Bruce's Blood Son and everyone else were just tagalongs or allies. it took him ages to acknowledge that dick, jason, tim, and cass were his siblings, so when duke came and like a week later damian was like Ah, Yes, this is my brother Thomas everyone else was like dude wtf
listen. LISTEN. Obviously. Richard is very highly skilled. and also Father values him highly. and also Richard will listen to Damian complain about his schoolmates. and also Richard is much more patient with Damian than other members of his family. listen....,,, (all this to say damian kind of fucking adores dick lmaooooo this kid).
Todd is kind of unbearable but damian has been informed this is both a normal feeling when it comes to Todd and also big brothers. damian was an only child for ten years so yes, Father, if Todd attempts to tickle me I WILL break his fucking nose. yes i WILL put money in the swear jar but I want you to know i don't regret it. they always try to sneak up on each other but mostly fail.
DRAKE!!! but no lol once damian grows up and is like I Apologize for attempting to murder you it was wrong and you are just as much a son to Father as I am tim is like UGH i guess its cool since ur being so emotionally mature and all. also im 2 for 5 on siblings trying to murder me so im definitely going to win trauma bingo and damian is like i take it back you are insufferable. When Will My Older Siblings Stop Joking About Their Trauma.
CASS!!! listen. cass is cool. Cass Gets It. They have a special Bond. also damian really likes it whenever cass is home because 1) he gets to hang out and do something cool with cass and 2) he feels significantly safer with cass in the house because Nobody will be able to hurt any of their family if Cass is there. ALSO he tries to call her cain but everyone is like DONT DO THAT and he doesn't want to call her wayne bcus theyre ALL wayne (dick adds it on as a middle name but also Richard John Wayne West-Grayson is just. the lamest name ever so dick needs to reconsider it before his upcoming nuptials)((dick will not reconsider it except maybe whether grayson-west would work better)) and so he tries cassandra but cass is like :) call me cass and damian is like cassandra is more formal and respectful and cass is like :) and finally damian just has to give in.
Duke! him and duke actually live together so they get the Most Bonding Time and have a bunch of inside jokes as a result. (is it bad i wanted to laugh because inside jokes... joker... i'll see myself out). they're eating breakfast together (and also alfred sits with them IM NOT A MONSTER ALFIE'S LIKE 70 NOW OKAY) and duke laughs and bruce is like what are you laughing at, son? and duke is like oh damian just showed me this funny meme and then he shows the phone to bruce and bruce grabs it (both the boys groan) and after WAY TOO LONG is like "i don't get it" and so now duke and damian have to try and explain the comedic intricacy of bob's burgers

The Gala (A BirdFlash flash fic)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/20659985
“A gala?!” Artemis threw her hands up into the air, “I’m going to have to wear a dress?!”
“I think you’ll look hot,” Wally replied with a wink. Artemis blanched at him.
“What even warrants us to being part of the bodyguard staff?” The girl grumbled.
“The sheer abundance of death threats Bruce Wayne and his family has gotten in the past two weeks over the gala, probably,“ Wally replied sarcastically around one of M’gann’s cookies.
“I know, Baywatch, Batman just told us. I was being sarcastic.”
Wally shrugged.
M’gann exited the room in which Black Canary and Agent A were taking measurements for their suits and dresses. “Zatanna’s done, Artemis, you’re up!”
M’gann walked over to check how many cookies were still left and Conner followed her like the lovesick puppy he was.
“Wally, why do you not need your measurements taken? Do you not need a suit as well? Are you not going on the mission?” M’gann asked from across the cookie platter.
Wally shook his head, “I already have one. Need to look sharp to pick up the babes, right?”
Robin’s head popped up from behind the sofa with a snicker, “You always look so uncomfortable in a suit, Wally.” And to M’gann he said, “I’m the one not on the mission, Batman and I will be handling other affairs in Gotham.”
Wally sputtered, not sure if he should be insulted by Robin’s off-handed comment.
Wally was adjusting his royal blue tie when the girls walked out. Their dresses were simple, practical, yet beautiful. Agent A really went all out.
“You all look lovely,” Kaldur, ever the gentleman, greeted the girls.
Artemis was decked out in a dark red pouf dress that ended an inch above her knees. It was tied with a large white belt at her waist and Wally would bet that it was a bow in disguise. Wally’s also betting that the many golden bracelets on her arms were the arrows.
Zatanna was in an elegant forest green sheath dress that had slits that were more for mobility than to show off her legs. She could probably magic up her usual outfit anyways.
M’gann was in a simple black halter dress that showed off her not-green shoulders. Wally thought Conner was drooling. No, Wally knew Conner was drooling.
Wally’s phone vibrated and he took it out.
Birdie-bae: Royal Blue?
You: yup
Birdie-bae: Cool.
“Come on, Wally! We’re going now!” Artemis’ exasperated voice drew Wally away from the phone. The boy tucked the device into his pocket and scrambled to catch up with the others.
They arrived in a limo but among these guests, it was the norm. No one plaid them any mind as the other glamorously dressed people ambled into the billionaire's gala hall.
“Guys!” M’gann tugged on Conner’s sleeve while addressing everyone. “Look!”
“What am I looking at?” Artemis asked, turning and squinting in the direction M’gann was pointing.
“It’s Richard Grayson!” M’gann replied excitedly.
Wally saw the boy almost immediately. Dick was currently talking to some rich snob, with his profile towards the group. Dick’s hair was slicked back and his dark blue tie accented his black button-up and silver suit. Even at fifteen, Dick was a walking talking model.
Zatanna whistled, “He’s totally as hot as the tabloids say he is.”
“He’s Richard Grayson?” Artemis looked surprised, “Huh, that suit really does wonders for that ass.”
Wally totally wasn’t staring that Dick Grayson’s butt right now.
“Is he...coming towards us?” Conner interrupted.
Yes. Yes, he was. Dick had finished up talking to whatever guy he was talking to earlier, caught sight of the group of arrivals that were his age and was making is way over.
Wally decided to go greet him, after all, he was Dick’s date for the night.
“Wally, where are you going?” Kaldur asked, the same time Artemis hissed, “What are you doing?”
“Going to greet ‘the’ Richard Grayson,” Wally replied simply and continued to walk.
When Wally and Dick met up, they were still far enough from the team that the roar of the music and the people talking masked whatever the redhead was saying to the ward of Bruce Wayne.
The team could only watch as Wally said something that caused the younger teen to burst into laughter, then Wally had the audacity to do finger guns following it. Then Wally was talking again and jabbed a finger in the rest of the team’s direction and soon they found Richard’s curious gaze and charming smile aimed in their direction.
Dick turned back to Wally again and exchanged a few more words, then they saw Wally grin and lean down… Richard seemed to shake his head in fond exasperation and leaned forward to meet Wally’s….
“IS WALLY KISSING THE RICHARD GRAYSON?!” Artemis practically exploded, but quietly, as she really didn’t want any more attention of the surrounding snobs.
M’gann seemed to be slightly hyperventilating, “Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh.”
“I don’t know what happened but I think I just learned that Wally has game,” Zatanna stated, impressed by whatever Wally just did.
Conner looked over to Kaldur, “Should this have some kind of monumental meaning? Am I missing something again?”
Kaldur shrugged, just as confused, “If so, I do not know either.”
“They’re coming over!” M’gann squealed.
And soon, lo and behold, Richard Grayson, in all of his perfection, was standing before the team.
“Hey, guys!” Wally had a shit-eating grin stretched across his face, popping up from behind the shorter teen, “This is my boyfriend, you may have heard of him.”
Dick laughed and grabbed the redhead’s arm, “Wally!”
“What? It’s true, you’re totally on fire tonight, babe.”
The ward of Bruce Wayne gave a good-natured groan as he whacked Wally on the arm, “Why am I dating you?”
“Because you love me~” Wally sang, puckering his lips. Dick shoved Wally back by putting a hand on his face.
Then, Dick ignored him in favor of turning towards the team, “Hello, Dick Grayson, and yeah, unfortunately, Wallace West’s boyfriend.”
“Unfortunately? Dick, I am the hottest dude you’re ever gonna get!”
“Walls, I think it’s the other way around.”
Wally paused, “Eh, I can’t argue with that.”
“Wally, what? How did you score Dick Grayson as your boyfriend?” Artemis asked, then turned to Dick, “Is he blackmailing you? Did you lose a bet?”
Dick shook his head, “Nope, my heart just really seems to like the weird ones.”
“Awe, babe.”
“You’re matching!” M’gann squealed, pointing at their ties. Both the boys beamed, glad their efforts weren’t in total vain.
“I would’ve gone with red and yellow, but that would be too bright for this particular audience,” Dick joked while hinting that he knew about Wally’s other life.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Zatanna buts into the conversation, “If Wally already has a boyfriend, why does he constantly flirt with anything that walks?”
Wally puffed out his cheeks, “I mean, Dick finds it funny?”
“Oh, yeah, he’s tried all his lines on me beforehand and I love them all. I think he wants to know if it’s because they're actually good or if I’m just being nice. It’s usually the latter. Plus, it’s amusing to watch Wall-man get turned down. He usually comes sulk in my room after.”
Kaldur furrowed his eyebrows, “But he usually goes to Robin-”
But the two were gone, only a familiar cackle was left ringing in their ears. Realization dawned on everyone.
Everyone deadpanned, “Of course.”

Titans S2E2: Rose, a review, I guess.
Here, have another bullet-pointed, kinda-review. Spoilers ahead!
This episode has awesome stuff, but it’s kind of choppy. We flash pretty quickly from scene to scene between pretty much all the Titans. We get Dick with the kiddos at the tower, Kori and Donna going after Shimmer, Hank and Dawn at their ranch in Wyoming. And then there’s the occasional jump to Rose or Dr. Light. It didn’t jump so much that it was confusing but it gave me the feeling that as soon as I was really into what was happening the scene moved on to something else and that left me disappointed. Luckily everyone seems to be coming together by the end of the episode so hopefully this won’t be an issue going forward.
Dick is getting super into the Big-Bro/Dad/Mentor thing and it’s kind of hilarious. After spending all last season trying to get rid of as much responsibility as possible he’s gone all-in on the mentorship thing to the point that it’s funny to me. He’s over here being super serious with his “Even your eyes can be taken from you!” sensei-thing, and having them read Sun Tzu, and making them food that is apparently terrible. No wonder he goes to that coffee shop all the time, his food is inedible I guess. Like, he’s trying so hard it’s a little manic, but endearing.
Dick is actually pretty great with Jason. Sending Jason with Dick was probably the best thing Bruce could have done because it’s clear that Dick is starting to get Jason where Bruce seemingly didn’t. Jason is complaining about being stuck in Cali and wants to go home to Gotham and Dick’s like, “Me and Bruce don’t think you’re ready, you were joyriding in the batmobile and the thing with the motorcycle and using the batcomputer inappropriately (seems like a porn reference), yada yada,” And Jason seems a bit dejected and upset. And you can see Dick looking at him, seeing how disheartened he is and he seems to get an idea and is like, “and besides, I could really use your help around here, you’re more skilled than the others, they don’t have your experience, everyone looks up to you, etc.” And like, yeah the first part is true, but it’s clear by the others reaction that they really don’t like Jason much or look up to him, Dick is just trying to cheer him up. Jason wants praise and recognition so bad. Even when he’s obviously being manipulated he just wants to believe it so much. That leads me to think this Bruce has been doing typical Bruce-things and maybe not giving Jason much positive reinforcement, which is probably contributing to Jason acting out.
I like Jason but it’s clear the Titans don’t. Last episode we saw bits of Donna and Hank and Dawn not exactly giving Jason a warm reception even though he really didn’t do anything to deserve it. And now in this one Gar and Rachel are icing him out a bit (referring to how he basically adopted Gar and Rachel, Dick says, “but I didn’t help Jason,” and Rachel rolls her eyes and says, “can anyone help Jason?”). Dick said they look up to Jay but that doesn’t seem like the case, I felt like he was just handling Jason. Do they defer to him when it comes to vigilante things, well yeah, maybe, but that’s not quite the same thing. I’m really hoping this isn’t the comics all over again, where everyone was said to pretty much universally dislike him outside of Donna and Eddie (after Jason’s character was rebooted). I know I’m a Jay-fan so I might be biased but aside from being a little cocky and mischievous there’s nothing we’ve seen him do to anyone that really warrants this kind of dislike, IMO. I’m hoping over the course of the season he proves himself to Gar and Rachel at least and they get along better. I want everyone to like Jason but even if they didn’t I would be fine with it if they at least disliked him for good reasons, and right now I haven’t seen anything to suggest their reasons are anything but shallow.
Kori and Donna interacting are a treasure. Kori and Donna clearly bonded over being badass chick who like to beat people up and have the same sassy sense of humor. They are constantly bickering but you get the impression they are loving every second of their verbal repartee. They are so hilarious. It’s interesting to see Kori interact with someone who is an ‘adult’ and isn’t Dick. I feel like with Donna more of that zest that Kori has in the comics but didn’t really last season, comes out. Before she was so focused on her mission she didn’t have time for herself and now she does and it’s great seeing her do Earth-things and finding them fun or interesting and enjoying herself. Kori loving Disco and Donna liking Madonna is so damn appropriate.
Roy foreshadowing!!! Donna’s contact that sent her after Shimmer is shown to be Roy Harper from her phone call. I have to wonder what version of Roy we are getting here. OG Roy-fans and Titans purists are probably going to hate me for this but hear me out...I want it to be the new version of Roy, in terms of personality and looks. Goofy genius-dumbass hillbilly with a heart of gold Roy. Look, I just feel like the other version of his character overlaps way too much with characters we already have, especially Donna. Say what you will about New 52 Roy, but he’s got character and personality, he stands out in a way I feel the other Roy didn’t, especially alongside Wally and Dick, who had very similar personalities, I feel. I’ll be happy with either version because it’s Roy but I think it would be interesting to see the New 52 alongside these characters, with his trucker hat and gadgets. Or maybe they could do a fusion, at least have his aesthetic. Everyone in this show kind of has a sameness that could be shaken up. We could use some comic relief, honestly. I hope we actually do see him this season though and it isn’t just foreshadowing something for next season.
The stuff with Hawk and Dawn was...fine. Basically after getting that ranch, Hank getting clean and presumably getting his surgery and retiring from heroing like they always dreamed/planned it all went up in smoke. I guess it was probably inevitable, to be honest. But there was this whole thing where Hank caught Dawn going out as Dove behind his back after they’d decided to stop and they were having a big important fight about it--and then it’s all rendered moot when Dr. Light destroys their whole life and they have to go to Cali and meet up with Dick. It just kind of seems like too easy of a way for the writers to resolve the situation. I hope this isn’t the end of Hank and Dawn’s argument because it was a really big deal. Hank was giving Dawn a break-up ultimatum if it’s never brought up again I’m going to be annoyed.
Rose has potential. I felt like the actress’s acting was a little stiff but that might have just been the choppiness of the scenes she was in, the sections were too small to get a real feel for her. I like her looks, she’s awesome in the action scenes and she has her powers/healing factor and all her comic abilities which is great. I feel like her writing is good though, and I’m interested to see is she’s actually on her own like she seems or if she’s a mole for her dad (I kind of feel like she’s a mole...). I hope we see JayRose though. I think him being interested in her is just a given, he called her a badass from seeing her fight. Whether she will have any interest in him back is more of a question, but I’m hopeful.
I wanted more Deathstroke. Not gonna lie, I wanted more Deathstroke. We saw a scene at the end where Jason found the connection between Rose and Slade, but that’s it. I have a feeling he’ll be in the next episode though.
Seriously, Ian Glenn is an awesome Batman. We got another great conversation between Bruce and Dick and I loved it so much, you guys. Give Ian Glenn a chance, people. I’m telling you the writing for Bruce is on point and the acting is great. He feels a lot like the DCAU-version to me, the one voiced by Kevin Conroy. I actually really like his voice in particular because it’s sort of deep like Conroy’s is, and he manages to put a lot of buried emotion into more or less flatly spoken words. The writing and the acting absolutely has that Bruce-thing where gives you answers in the most concise but cryptic way possible, acts all dramatic and he’ll seem unhelpful and kind of like a jerk and then he’ll say something profound and meaningful to let Dick know he actually does care about him a lot and it’s like...yeah, that’s the Bruce I’ve wanted, guys. he’s an asshole without really meaning to be but his intentions are good. It’s just so nice to have Titans!Bruce when comics!Bruce is such a nightmare right now...I really hope people who don’t like or doubt him will give Ian Glenn’s Bruce another chance, because I love him so much already. Yeah, his looks aren’t quite right but I’m getting used to it. The core of Bruce is there and that’s what’s really important.
And those were my main thoughts watching this episode. I loved it and it left me wanting more. It had some issues but nothing deal-breaking.

Note
I’m rewatching The Batman right now. I have one of the seasons on DVD and watched all of it awhile ago but I don’t remember most of the episodes. It’s so good! I’m sad no one knows about it because the characters are really well written and the action is top fucking notch. I’m hyped to watch more. Since you’re one of the only accounts I know who likes the show, I’d love to know if you have any favorite episodes, and what you ship in the show.
@tiptapricot
Yes, I love this show! I even made art specially for it and I’m about a write an essay as a response so buckle in.
It’s so fun and cute and I really think its some of the best characterizations I’ve seen, but in a way in which they’ve added twists to each character but kept their core selves. The animation and fight scenes are also really great, and although they’re basically gone after the second season, Ethan Bennet and Ellen Yin are great original characters. I think the only bad part of the show is what happens to them.
I looked through the episode lists and I didn’t even realize till I was looking, but obviously, I loved season four the most. I think it’s actually the best season. I love them all but I will limit it to my top five. I’ll put them in order of when they aired.
The Batman 2004 Spoilers Below!!! (But all very mild)
Season 2, Episode 9: Ragdolls to Riches
I love this episode because I think its a great way to show that Selina is a bad guy but not a bad guy, ya know. Sure she steals, but she does actually end up liking Bruce as a person and she actually does donate a whole bunch of money to charity (money which she got from stealing but eh) and she clearly never steals from anyone needy, she just takes from those who have too much.  It’s also cute to see Bruce try to impress her by having Alfred serve her “The famous Pennyworth Nachos" because he’s a 26-year-old frat boy and doesn’t know any better.
Season 3, Episode 3: A Dark Knight To Remember
I think amnesia storylines are always fun and this is really the first episode you get to see Batgirl! Babs really does her thing. She’s great on this show and I think it makes her character especially interesting how she is a sidekick before Robin (This was due to his design looking too much the teen titan one and they didn’t want people to think it was the same continuity). I think it makes Bruce taking Dick make more sense since he already has sidekick experience. He’s also a very more big brother in the beginning and you get to see him kinda become their dad figure over time. It’s also funny in this episode to see Bruce act stupid because he’s forgotten he’s Batman, but also touching to see him have to overcome fear because he wants to save Babs.
Season 4, Episode 7: Artifacts
I love this episode because we get to see Oracle and Nightwing. This episode is darker than the others because it also shows an older Bruce who can’t give up the mission no matter what, as well as seems to show a future where something bad happened that caused Bruce to stop being Batman abruptly. However, seeing how the timeline plays out is really interesting and did I mention that Oracle is in this episode? I love her.Season 4, Episode 9: Riddler’s Revenge
I really like Ed Nygma as a villain, especially in kids shows where he’s more riddles and less murder. This episode really explores his character, but it also shows that side of Bruce that I have very openly love, in which he really truly wants to help his Rogues because he knows that life has screwed them over in one way or another. It reminds me of the scene in JLU where Wally is being kind to the Trickster, telling him he’ll visit when he goes back to the hospital and Captain Boomerang tells Bruce he doesn’t understand how Wally can be so friendly with his Rogues, and Bruce says “of course you can’t understand”. It’s all about the empathy, baby!
Season 4, Episode 10: Two of a Kind
This one is Harley’s origin story in The Batman. I think it’s so cute that they made her a Dr. Phill/Wendy Williams type tv show host. But what I really love about this episode is how she basically snaps because no one takes her seriously because she’s young and cute but she’s actually an excellent doctor and really really smart. But she also discusses how even though she’s smart she still ends up with the Joker and she can’t really understand why. I think they do her character a lot of justice and also never glorify her relationship with the Joker. As for ships, I didn’t really find anything particularly enticing. I think the show really stays away from relationships on purpose so none of them ever felt strong. I think in another life where they didn’t villainize Ethan and have Yin randomly disappear once Gordon showed up, they could have maybe been something. Overall, I love this show. If anyone hasn’t watched it, you should! It’s all on DC Universe if you have access to it.
