The Ghost Pirates by William Hope Hodgson
Hodgson is one of the authors that inspired H.P. Lovecraft's works. I love the type of horror in Lovecraft's stories, but I don't necesarry love Lovecraft. His stuff is really hit of miss for me, and I have been let down by quite a few of his works. So anytime I hear about something that might play around with a similar type of horror I am really curious to read it. I had never read anything by Hodgson, and I didn't know much about it, but I was fully sold by the very premises of this short novel. Pirates, ghosts, and the light horror of the early 1900s, is the perfect combo for me. Plus, if you know anything about me, I adore stories that take place in closed spaces where characters are trapped. Whether that is an island, an unreachable house, or a ship in the middle of the ocean, like in this case I just love this type of setting.
The story takes place on a "unlucky" ship, things seem to go on well at the very beginning of the trip, but slowly some sailors start to figure out that there are weird things happening, expecially at night. The chapters are short, and each one of them has at least one major event in it, so that you find yourself glued to the pages. I loved the way these weird events get bigger and bigger and add up to one another until the very end. It's a very simple story, don't expect anything too complicated, but I feel like it works perfectly because of that. It's a really good ghost story, and I loved the setting on a ship. At the beginning it was a bit hard to keep up with all the very specific words linked to the ship itself, because I am quite ignorant on the matter and I knew only the vary basis. After I got the hang of the vocabulary I had no issues. I must say it actually motiveted me to look for more supernatural stories set on ships, I really enjoyed it. It's not a scary story, although it's really interesting to see the terror slowly but surely plague the minds of the sailors. I definetly look forward to reading more stuff by Hosgson.

Title: The ghost pirates (1909) Author: William Hodgson Vote: 7/10 Well written story that if I'm honest struck me as the archetype of what a haunted ship story should be. If I really have to find a flaw in it, it is that no explanation is ever given of what is happening, except for some hypotheses from the protagonist which appear rather science fiction-like.

Danny has an Ice Core.
He isn't aware of it, but this does, in fact, greatly influence how his ghost form looks as he grows up.
His appearance starts getting more rugged, eyes a paler, more piercing green, hair a bit more uncontrollable and wild.
He packs muscle easily, even in human form.
When in ghost form, he has an aura of something patient and dangerous, and that sense only grows the older he gets.
Basically, our boy starts to look like a viking.
No matter how goofy and bumbling he really is, his first impression is always a horrifying moment for whoever is meeting him.
And as his ghost form grows with his human form, he outgrows his hazmat outfit. Frostbite and the Far Frozen fashion him some new clothes-which only compliment and play off of the viking aesthetic he's got going on.
And with the height he inherited from his father?
Our man is a very, very intimidating figure to look at. More so than Dan; because while Dan was dangerous and scary, he was all energy and lightning and rage.
Adult Danny comes across as lethal and terrifying, all ice and persistence and that final, terrible silence before you realize you've already died.
Dan felt like the warrior in front of you. Danny feels like the wilderness in winter, vast and unforgiving.
Anyways, when a summoning for Klarion goes horribly wrong and Danny gets called instead, the Justice League has a moment where they're convinced they've summoned something much, much worse than Klarion.
And Danny, standing there completely confused, is not helping by remaining silent and still while staring John Constantine in the eye.
Good news, the bad guys are also very concerned about the weird ghost viking and are actually moving to stand side by side with the Justice League on this.
Bad news, who the fuck is this guy?
"...Fuck," is all Constantine whispers, backing away slowly.

PARALOUSE (Bug/Water), SQUAKER (Water) & PARASCYLLA (Bug/Ghost) PARALOUSE (Parasite/Louse/Perilous) is a small bug type pokemon that lives among the corals, it awaits for a fish pokemon with a mout big enough to jump in, where it will eat and replace that pokemon's tongue. Once it has gained enough strenght by weakening its host it will evolve
PARASCYLLA (Parasite/Scylla) the "Mermaid" pokemon. It emerges from its host's mouth, the one it completely fills. At this point its host is competely taken over, becoming PARASCYLLA's new tail. To further keep its "tail" in place, it will stick its lower legs through the fish's gills, securing it in place.
SQUAKER (Squawk/Cracker) is a parrot fish pokemon that inhabits the same coral reef where PARALOUSE can be found, they love to feed on coral using their strong beaks to cut and swallow large chunks of it, which sadly makes it the perfect victim for PARALOUSE. How ever if SQUAKER manages to avoid becoming infected by PARALOUSE it can evolve into the dangerous PARROTEER (Parrot/Privateer)
Tumblr media
PARROTEER (Water/Dark) is PARASCYLLA's natural predator, it preys upon PARASCYLLA with extreme prejudice, using its massive size and hard-as-rock head to knock them out, it then uses its bolt cutter-like beak to cut them in half by the waist, feeding only on the upper bug half and leaving the tails to sink to the bottom
PARALOUSE is based on the cymothoa exigua, a type of parasitic isopod that attached to fishes mouths replacing their tongues
Tumblr media
PARASCYLLA is based on a twisted version of a mermaid with some inspiration is the Greek monster Scylla, a creature with the upper torso of a woman, but a lower body made out of heads and tails
Tumblr media
SQUAKER is based on the Steephead parrotfish and its colors are based on the Scarlet Macaw
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PARROTEER is based on the Humphead parrotfish and its colors are based on the Dracula Parrot, as well as being based on a Pirate
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PARROTEER hunting and feeding only on PARASCYLLA is a reference to Pirates hunting mermaids as represented in some myths and popular media, like Peter Pan or Pirates of the Caribbean
At the moment, SQUAKER is the only suitable pokemon available in PARALOUSE's habitat for it to attach, but, if more pokemon were avaible it could attach to them as long as they met certain criteria: -Being a Fish (No mammals, reptiles of crustaceans) -Having a big enoug mouth Here are some examples of PARASCYLLA using other fish pokemons as its tail
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only exception to this rule being Gygantamax PARASCYLLA

Captain Phantom
Since the ghost invasion of Amity stopped, Danny had become close to many of the ghosts he was once enemies with, so it was not uncommon to find him attending Ember concerts or competing with Johnny.
Then, it was also not uncommon to find him playing with Youngblood, who was always up for playing pirates. The halfa knew that the ghost boy was lonely and not all ghosts paid attention to him, so he made sure to play with him whenever he could.
Of course, he and Youngblood noticed that they could no longer play in his home dimension (too much risk; as much as the adults didn't see Youngblood, Danny preferred not to risk creating a second GIW), so they chose a random dimension to play pirates. The halfa even invited more ghosts to be each other's "crew."
When everyone agreed to the proposal, they traveled through a natural portal to the new dimension, they wouldn't stay too long for it to matter.
Happy with the arrangement, no one noticed how the people in the "new" dimension freaked out at the sight of two pirate ships floating in the sky, everyone on the ships were too busy having fun to notice. Batman grunted at the thought of another magical stupidity in Gotham.
Determined to explore the strange phenomenon, Red Hood and Nightwing offered to use the Jet to get to one of the ships, to which Batman agreed. When they reached the first ship, they found a fierce fight between...aliens? spirits? None of the brothers were sure, but they all glowed in a familiar green. It seemed that the pirate ships were clashing.
Jason was about to speak to draw the attention of the people in the battle, but before he could a boy with bright green eyes, white hair and a Captain's hat on his head came, he immediately noticed them and shouted, "Argh! Intruders!"
Dick swore he saw a boy in a Captain's hat (the rival ship?) pouting and about to complain about something but he couldn't pay any more attention to the event because the "crew" circled them and before he knew it they were tying them up with ropes (also glowing?) and calling them "prisoners". Dick wondered if he would have to jump off the plank, while Danny hesitated about what to do with his "prisoners", Youngblood didn't appreciate people interrupting their games.

(yes I know I have too many series I'm working on but I just couldn't help myself when I saw this picture of Elliot. I just had to come up with something. This is loosely based of the story of Sinbad which Elliott starred in)

IM SORRY DID YOU SAY PIRATE AU?? The listening ears are on and we are all so excited to see what you cook up. Yar!!!!!
I had such a long day at work especially dealing with drunk sleazes and I realised that 141 are the only men allowed to be sleazy with me <3
let me know if you guys like this
c/w: kidnapping, light threats, misogyny (not from 141), fem!reader
you lived quite a nice, comfortable life before them. growing up in a well off family, raised to be a prim and proper lady. once you were old enough, your father immediately set off in his plan to marry you off. your father was a successful tradesman so he knew he could use you to make even more money
he settled on this old horrid man who only saw women as nothing more than an object, something to look pretty and never speak. never hold an opinion of their own and worried about nothing over than producing babies :(
and then these big, rowdy men came along :( docking at your town in the middle of the night to raid your nice town. soap stumbling onto you and snatching you up without a second thought. slinging you over his shoulder like you weigh nothing and planting one of his big hands right on your ass, laughing as you squeal and smack at his back
dropped you right in price’s cabin looking proper proud of himself, both of them laughing at you as you call tell them what awful brutes they are :( price leaning forward and puffing on his cigar,
“well, you can either stay here and keep my bed warm or I’ll drop you right at Davy Jones locker, pet…”

I just rewatched one of my favorite films, The Princess Bride, for the first time since becoming obsessed with Ghost, and now I can't stop thinking about Copia as Westley. All black outfit, gloves, mask, and even a little moustache... it's so Copia coded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention Copia is witty and agile, just like Westley. He would scale the Cliffs of Insanity, duel strangers, and sprint great distances to rescue you, all because you're his true love.
The quote, "Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while," is also very Copia, isn't it? And just imagine Buttercup and Westley's reunion as you and Copia...

… opinions on a pirate au? Just one more au?
There are four things that every pirate prays to. No gods, no masters, no kings, but the laws of sailing, things the cannot be left up to chance. The sea, the wind that carries them over her, the stars overhead that chart their path, and death. It's the pirates that pray for a pay day that really get into trouble. Ghost has never had that issue. He likes guarantees, likes knowing that there are constants(the sea, the stars, the air in his lungs, the long sleep waiting for him at the end of it all), likes days without surprises.
Except that Ghost has already met one of the four laws. He's found himself in graves both watery and dry, and every time he's managed to cheat death out of what they're deserved. Every time he's managed to outwit, out maneuver, out gun the very thing that waits for every pirate. He won't say how, finds the scars over his lips sewn shut every time he attempts to, but it's well known. Ghost has beat death, maybe not for good, but enough to know what's waiting for him on the other side. Enough to know that laws of nature don't follow human constraints, and that the men he's aligned himself with are meant for more than just this.
Enough to find the island he's been seeing in his dreams and unearth the only thing pirates hope against. He can call you whatever he likes when he cracks open the heavy wooden lid of the chest you were buried in: Greed, Envy, Violent passion, passing fancies, the first on a long list of things that doom pirates to the shore. You call yourself inevitable, the same as any of the laws, and you've just found four new vessels tailor made for the ideals they pray to.

So, I decided that I didn't like the other lineart I used for my drawings and decided to change it. With that change came others and my style was much closer to what I wanted to achieve, and I decided to try it with my favorite OP female character, my beautiful Perona❤ and that's how it turned out! What do you think? (I loved making the little bats btw) (a Gekko Moriah keychain just because)

I can’t praise you enough for this, but your art of Papa 3 as a swashbuckling pirate?!?!?!?? *chefs kiss*😫😜
I can imagine a continuation of like Papa 3 in his grand captains room aboard the ship, sitting cockily to the side in a chair behind his desk, that white puffy shirt unbuttoned ever so low, and he’s smirking at the audience……. just sayin, it would be rad 👏😜🤣
