I will never stop geeking out about Starkid’s interpretation of ‘The Gift Of The Magi’:
In the original story, it just ends with the tragic realisation that neither person can use their partner’s gift, but not in this version, oh no. Instead, Jim fastens the platinum silver chain meant for his watch around Della’s neck, and the two of them each take one of the beautiful golden combs and stick them in their hair.
Then, towards the end of ‘A Christmas Carol’, Scrooge visits two of his poor employees, who happen to be Jim and Della, and what does he give them? Why, it’s Jim’s watch, of course. Della’s hair will grow back, but that watch was irreplaceable, and now it’s back with him.
The moral of this version of the story isn’t about the tragedy of sacrifice, but the enduring nature of love, and how if you have love you can make the best of any situation, and any present will be appreciated if it comes from the heart. Of course, it’s all wrapped up neatly with a little Christmas bow when Jim gets his watch back, but the point still stands. I just love it. Also, I took all of these screenshots myself, geeking out the entire time.

A shifter version of O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi" where two shifters shrink themselves down and have themselves wrapped up in ornate boxes as a gift for the other one. After sitting around under the tree for hours, they realize that something has gone sideways so they each use their emergency escape knives to saw their ways out of their respective presents. Under the light of a single brilliant star shining in the window, they both realize that the greatest gift is their love for each other. Then they both win the Mega-Millions Powerball.

The Gift Of The Magi 💇🏻♀️👑💚 The story tells of a young husband and wife and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money. Libby’s hair symbolizes her beauty. Libby explains she has cut her hair to buy Ollie a gift. She pleads with him not to be angry, but she is still met with a strange look and confusion from Ollie.(yes this is based off of a book Libby is Della in this.) people would die for Libby’s hair and even a princess would

the only heterosexual couple i stan is jim and della from o henry's 'the gift of the magi'. EACH SOLD THE MOST VALUABLE GIFT THEY OWNED IN ORDER TO BUY A GIFT FOR THE OTHER! mind you, this is not the "sacrifice" trope that is so common in romance and tbh so very annoying. this is purer. this is everyday love in its sweetest form. this is giftgiving in its truest sense. this is choosing to love each other everyday despite all odds. yes mr o henry you're right. jim and della really are the magi!

all the books i’ve read in middle school ELA
In my district middle school in 6-8 or ages 11-14. I also left middle school in 2019 so things might of changed and I don’t remember most of the books.
These are also books that we’ve read as a class and not my personal reading.
6th Grade:
A Christmas Carol; Charles Dickens : I don’t know if we actually read the book or just watched the movie but he movie good. 7/10 would recommend.
The Gift of the Magi; O. Henry: We did read this book then had to do a lit analysis on it. Pretty good. I enjoyed it. 9/10 would recommend.
Pax; Sara Pennypacker : I don’t remember this book very much but I remembered liking it so 9/10.
Freddie in the Shade: Do not remember this book at all so 5/10.
7th Grade:
A Long Walk to Water; Linda Sue Park: It took our class forever to read this book but it was good and kept my attention. 9/10 would recommend.
Swimming for her Life: Again I do not remember this book at all so 5/10.
8th Grade:
Animal Farm; George Orwell: Hated this book. Not my favorite. 4/10.
The Diary of Anne Frank; Anne Frank: I didn’t ready it. We read the play version but I didn’t have to read so that was good. I did like the history behind it. 9/10 would recommend.
The Tell-Tale Heart; Edgar Allen Poe: Not my favorite but not bad. 8/10.
The Gift of the Magi; O. Henry: Liked this book better the second time around. 9/10.
