the concept of "grey Jedi" doesn't work because the force is light and dark, not black and white. By definition, colour value might be a spectrum, but darkness is absence of light. Everyone is grey! Star wars has clearly implied that nobody is perfect and everyone comes in shades of of grey, everyone is flawed and imperfect. The jedi are all technically grey! However, they are "light" because they, as jedi, choose light, choose selflessness, choose goodness.

Textbook fandom interpretation of "grey jedi" is either A. Someone who uses both the dark and light side or B. Someone who is light and does good but doesn't follow the jedi order.

A. doesn't work, because the dark side isn't just defined by "being emotional" or "Thinking of yourself", it's literally stuff like murder and torture. You can't claim to be "good" or "light" or "better than everyone" while also condoning murder at the same time.

B. You don't have to be a jedi to use the force! You don't have to be a jedi to be in the light! Like it's not illegal, the jedi order respects non-jedi force users as long as they don't commit human rights violations! the Jedi are the majority of force users, but they're not the only ones who can use the force. The jedi themselves are aware that there are many different interpretations, and the only intervene when it. yknow. involves murder and torture and the like. calling non-jedi lightside users as "grey jedi" doesn't really make sense because they're... just technically normal jedi. And if they're not associating with the order, then they're just lightside force users that are not jedi? Why would they call themselves jedi if they themselves don't think they are jedi or associate with the jedi???

Like in Ahsoka's situation, she's not a "grey" jedi, she's a light force user that doesn't follow the jedi order. In fact, saying that she's a "grey" jedi is basically just saying that she's a regular jedi? That doesn't make her better or worse or special, disagreeing with the council doesnt make someone better or worse that the other- what does matter is her actual actions. Which, as aforementioned, is lightside. The jedi order is also light. They can coexist, yknow, one is not superior than the other, they're both light. And it's not uncommon for people to disagree with the council. That's the entire point of the jedi having a "council"- to provide different perepectives and healthy debate and come up with the best decision for everyone. You can't please everybody, that's entirely normal. There's a reason why the council discusses instead of having one person make all the choices. The jedi are people too, they're also flawed. You can be grey and choose light, that's what the jedi choose to do.

tldr everyone is already grey, but light and dark is a matter or choice.

Currently rotting, so I present:

The Quiet Council playing Minecraft

Charles: Tries to establish a community with order and rules, fails horribly. Forgets that it's just a game and gets way too involved in Minecraft Server Politics. Eventually just closes the server.

Erik: Hangs out with Ororo. Illyana or Beto probably showed him the game so he knows what he's doing, but he's here to relax. Way too sick of Charles to help him.

Apocalypse: Uses his Celestial tech to play because his hands are too large for normal human tech. Still can't run shaders.

Irene: Sits by Raven and tells her what she needs to do. Just happy to lay her head on her wife's shoulder, and to ruin Charles's day.

Raven: Gets competitive, immediately wants the best gear. Keeps stealing Charles's stuff when Irene tells her he won't notice. Describes the beautiful things she sees in detail to Irene and builds a flower garden for them both.

Nathaniel: Spends the entire time making his skin. When he does get into the game, he griefs Charles's house and then harrasses Apocalypse with TNT. Eventually gets bored, sets his game to creative, and blows up everything.

Emma: Collects all the types of cats and spends time building a beautiful base with Kate. As in, Kate gets the resources and builds the base, while Emma gives directions and adds details

Kate: Pretty good at the game. Harrasses Shaw and griefs his village. Loves resource gathering and mining.

Sebastian: Spends his time levelling up villagers and turning them to zombies + curing them so he gets the best deals.

Selene: Doesn't understand the villagers are NPCs, so she sets up a cult in a village to worship her. Secretly, she gets a little attached to them. She also builds plenty of Iron Golems.

Hope: Probably a Minecraft pro. Basically speedruns the best gear and farms while dragging Bennet along with her. At first, she tells Bennet to get her resources, but after he keeps getting lost/dying she just does it herself.

Bennet: Has no idea what's going on, but follows Hope around and does what she says. Easily gets lost without her. He likes the armor and weapons, he feels like a knight again.

Piotr: Collects a bunch of animals, and has an army of dogs. I imagine he names them after flowers and dyes their collars to match. Of course sets up large farms.

Kurt: Doesn't really know how to play the game. Tries to help Charles at first, but eventually goes out on his own or helps Piotr on his farms.

Ororo: Hangs out with Erik. Charles kept asking her to help him build a community but she was more interested in building and mining with Erik.

Jean: Knows how to play through Rachel and Teen Cable. Probably tries to sneak Scott onto the server but he says no. Also tries to help Charles but gets sick of him.

Doug: Secretly competing with Hope. Failing miserably, but he's still having a great time.

Krakoa: Asking Doug questions about the game. Eventually tries to recreate Minecraft biomes on the island. It becomes a major emergency because suddenly skeletons and zombies are appearing at night and attacking mutants.

my hottest take on delenn is that her atonement quest is ultimately a futile one. no matter what she does she can never take back the lives lost because of her, she can never take back the orders that started the slaughter, there is ultimately nothing she can do to make up for having participated in a genocide because it is done and those people aren't coming back and she will have to carry that guilt for the rest of her life. and i think she knows it's ultimately futile because she doesn't tell sheridan. because she knows that what she did was unforgiveable and that it would break him

and imo, i think this is one of the things that makes delenn a very interesting and tragic character, because despite everything she does after the war, and how ultimately she pretty much gets everything she wants, this is one thing that she can never put right and that she will have to hide even from the love of her life

#my other hot take is that her attempts to stop the war after it begins and she realises what she's done are utterly weak #she basically sits around crying and staring at candles and makes like one half-assed attempt to try and start some kind of negotiations #with earth behind the grey council's back and then like... gives up???#and spends the rest of the war just hangin' out looking for a sign from the universe????#delenn girl what are you doing #idk i guess you can argue she's not exactly in a state of mind to be operating at 100%#but idk i would have liked to see her doing more #like trying to build a resistance to the war internally among the minbari #she said that the war broke her father's heart so surely there must have been other minbari who were like 'um this is fucked up guys'#beyond just the ranger dude #idk im spitballing here #in the beginning was a bad film
