warnings: mentions of violence, dad!jpm (stepping way out of my comfort zone lol), in my version of this universe, yes, JPM is dead but somehow was able to conceive a child with a not-dead reader, reader is now dead (somehow) and lives immortally with JPM, the child is mortal.

September, 1962
'Darling?' James called from across the suite.
'Yes, dear?' I replied, reading in the front room.
'Jane's school is on the phone, would you be a dear and talk to them? I was in the middle of something...' he trailed off.
Knowing he was likely in the midst of dismembering one of the hotel waitstaff who has misbehaved at his party last night, I sighed and stood.
'Coming!' I called, smoothing the front of my black housedress, its high-neck collar sitting perfectly on my collarbones. I ashed my cigarette before rushing hastily into the bedroom. James sat perched in the velvet bedside chair, running his fingers over his mustache.
He stood upon my entrance, walking to me and giving me a kiss on the cheek and a squeeze on the rear. I had guessed right. His hair was tousled and his brow was sheen with sweat. He sported only his thin white collared shirt and suspenders. James had obviously been...working.
'I heard the phone from my study, I've no idea what they're calling about,' he briefed me, before retreating back into his private room.
I ran my hands over my chin-length bob and took another drag of my cigarette. I brought the receiver to my ear and spoke.
'Hello, March residence. Y/N March speaking,' I smiled.
'Ah, yes, Mrs. March,' the female voice on the other line replied in an unreadable tone. 'I'm calling from your daughter's school.'
'Yes?' I said, growing impatient. 'What is it?'
'Jane is, well, she needs to be picked up,' the woman stuttered. 'There was an incident and we need a guardian to come to the school as soon as possible.'
'My, i-is she injured?' I asked. 'I- can be there in about ten minutes, i-is that okay?'
'No, Mrs. March, Jane is quite fine,' the female voice clarified. 'I can explain more once you get here.'
I placed the phone back on the hook and hurried over to the bookshelf, pulling out a copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray, and triggering the hidden door to open.
'James!' I called. 'We need someone to go to Jane's school.'
'Just a moment, dear!' he shouted back. 'I'm just about finished.' Quick footsteps came down the hall toward me, followed by James' handsome face.
'Jane's school would like someone to pick her up, they haven't told me an ounce of what's wrong,' I explained, concern in my voice. 'I told them I would come but, obviously, I can't.'
'That's quite alright, my beautiful songbird,' he cooed, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. 'I am sure she's fine. I will send Miss Hanson.'
Miss Hanson was the receptionist at the Hotel Cortez. She was 'me' when I couldn't be 'me.' I knew he had made a vital mistake in not homeschooling Jane. Or in not sending her to James' choice of school. It was only her first day of Kindergarten and there was already an issue.
About an hour later, Miss Hanson walked through the door with Jane in tow. Her head hung low as she crossed the lobby toward James and I. Her little black dress looked so cute paired with her matching stockings and Mary-Jane slippers. The frown on her face was a stark contrast to the cute pigtails I'd put in her soft black hair that morning. The ribbons I'd tied to the ends were gone.
'Oh, my sweet,' I exclaimed, stooping down to her level. 'My sweet rose.' Jane's little legs carried her into my outstretched arms. She crashed into me with all of the force in her tiny body.
James crouched down to meet the familial embrace. 'Whatever is the matter, dear one?' Miss Hanson cleared her throat uncomfortably. James stood to speak with her.
'Jane got into quite some...trouble...today,' the girl started. 'Jane, would you care to tell your Mama and Papa what happened?'
Jane poked her head up from my hug and rubbed her eyes with her tiny fist. 'Eddie stole my Creepy Crawler,' she mumbled.
'What was that, young lady? Speak up,' James demanded.
'E-Eddie stole m-my Creepy Crawler, my bat. S-so I...I,' Jane struggled. We had just bought her a set of toys called 'Creepy Crawlers.' They were plastic bugs, insects, basically any animal considered 'gross.' She took a liking to the plastic bat immediately.
'She punched little Eddie and pinned him to the ground. She strangled him, Mr. and Mrs. March,' Miss Hanson cut in. 'Until he was blue in the face. The teacher noticed before the poor boy was dead, but the school doesn't want her back.'
I looked over at James and saw the brightest light behind his eyes. A small smirk was on his lips. He was right, and he knew it.
+
'Now, Jane,' James began. 'We knew you wouldn't be like the other kids. From the moment you were born, I saw something in you. My, where'd all the time go?' He paced back and forth in the front of the room, Jane and I sitting as a captive audience to his grand monologue. The one he'd prepared years ago when the discussion of school first came up.
I ashed my cigarette on the ashtray on the coffee table and took a drag. I couldn't help but laugh under my breath at him.
'You are a special little girl. You have the power to see what others cannot,' he continued. 'You can weed out bad from good. You know who to eliminate from this existence. You can see who is utterly useless scum, and you have the power to get rid of them.'
'What Papa is trying to say, dear, is that you're too smart for regular school,' I smiled, patting her head with my free hand.
'Your mother is right. That school was no good,' James smiled.
'So, I'm not in trouble?' Jane asked in a little voice.
'Nonsense, dear one. Quite the opposite. You've found your calling,' he explained. 'So we'd like to send you to a different school. One a bit further away. One where you can truly learn the art of murder.'
'It's a sleepaway school, Jane,' I clarified. 'So, you'll have to go away for a while. But, you won't miss us a bit. It will be so much more fun for you.'
Jane took in the information and nodded. I wasn't sure that she fully understood what we meant, but it was for the best. She wasn't like other kids, and this was the fairest option for her.
+
James and I saw her and Miss Hanson off that afternoon. We knew we were sending her somewhere safe for kids like her.
When we arrived back at the suite, James grabbed me by the waist and spun me to face him. He pulled me in close and kissed me passionately.
'We've raised our little girl perfectly,' he interrupted, entirely too pleased with himself. 'I only wish we could make another.'
'And I'm entirely too glad we can't,' I chuckled. James swept me off the ground and carried me to the bedroom, slamming the door shut demonstratively behind him.

This was a bit less about the kid (like in Wednesday) and a bit more about the parent's side of things haha. Hope you like it!

Lost without You (Part 1)
The young hacker had managed to evade his pursuers once more, escaping the mine unnoticed and mostly unharmed except for the smoke in his lungs. Apparently there was an exit that not even the FBI had known of, allowing him to escape undetected and swiftly. Fleeing on foot past the outskirts of Duskwood, he was able to slow his pace, being careful to avoid any busy and populated roads. After finding refuge in another city and booking a hotel room under a secret identity, he was then able to focus on setting up his computer. It had been over five days since the incident at the mine, meaning the news of the explosion was everywhere.
Four days ago Alan Bloomgate, chief police of Duskwood, recovered the missing Hannah Donfort from the Grimstone Mine. Although malnourished, weak, and frightened; the young woman was in overall better condition than expected. She showed no signs of injuries beside slight cuts on her body, and chafing on her wrists and ankles from rope. Before anyone could reenter the mine and look for the perpetrator or the missing person of Richy Rogers, the Grimstone exploded. Officers have confirmed that it was clearly an inside job, the person behind everything had set fire to the mine in order to hide the evidence and avoid capture by the police.
Hannah Donfort was brought to the Duskwood hospital and checked over for any more injuries, luckily there were none major. Her family and friends are overjoyed by her safe return; however, the same can not be said for the Rogers family. Police are still searching the burnt remains for any evidence or trace of the young mechanic, another victim of the cruel actions of a maniac. The identity of the perpetrator has not yet been confirmed, officers are still looking for the body or possible bodies in the mine.
Jake bit his lip as he read the article, it was all lining up just as he had suspected. Michael was undoubtedly the one who had started the fire, opting to commit suicide instead of being imprisoned for Hannah’s kidnapping and Amy’s murder. His electric blue eyes then caught the headline of another column, immediately clicking onto the website.
Hannah Donfort has just confessed to being involved in a mysterious and tragic incident that took place nearly ten years ago, the cause of Jennifer Hanson’s death.
In 2013 a young woman by the name of Jennifer Hanson went missing. She was last seen at the Bar Aurora, where her father Michael Hanson was the current owner of. Michael made a statement saying she had left the Aurora for her father’s house, but she had never made it there. The case was thought to be foul play, until a few weeks later her body was found buried deep in the Duskwood forest, the onslaught of rain had washed away the dirt surrounding the grave. The autopsy produced evidence that Jennifer’s death wasn’t necessarily murder, but instead she had been hit by a car. Slivers of paint from an AMC Gremlin were found on her, leading the police to the owner of the matching car: Ted Madruga. Madruga was arrested and imprisoned despite his claims that he was not involved in her death. For ten years he has lived behind bars and been accused of Jennifer’s hit and run, until now.
Hannah Donfort remembers the incident perfectly as one that will never leave her mind. It is forever embedded in her brain, one that will haunt her the rest of her life. She claims it was an accident, afterall she had been only 14 when it had occurred. She also has named Amy Bell Lewis, now deceased, and Richy Rogers, currently missing and assumed to be dead, as being involved in the incident. According to Hannah, Amy had lost an important necklace during the carriage tour around the Grimstone Waterfall and had asked Hannah to go back and help find it. Since both girls were underage and couldn’t legally drive, they had asked Richy to drive them back to the mine. Hannah states that Richy had been drinking and refused, but after the girls’ incessant begging, he gave them the keys to an old AMC Gremlin. The same AMC Gremlin that Ted Madruga was the current owner of, he had apparently left his vehicle at Roger’s Garage in order to have the car scrapped. The file had been lost, which is why there was no proof that the vehicle had ever been on the shop’s property, leading to Madruga’s arrest. Hannah says she had been driving around the Rogers’ lot for about a year, so she didn’t think anything could go wrong, after all they would be driving on a mostly deserted highway.
Hannah claims that after the accident, she and Amy had returned back to Richy’s house, where the three of them then drove back to the site and buried the body. She was able to lead the officers to the exact spot where Jennifer’s body had been found ten years ago, and her description and obvious remorse and guilt left no doubt in the officers’ minds that she was indeed telling the truth. She is currently being held on trial for her involvement in the death of Jennifer Hanson, the charges will more than likely be lessened due to her confession. Ted Madruga has rejoined society after ten years of unjust and wrongful imprisonment. This is a tragic day for the community of Duskwood, old memories resurfacing as the village’s dark side has once more regained the spotlight.
Jake sighed as he read the article, he knew Hannah had done the right thing, but still he prayed that her sentencing wouldn’t be so bad. He hoped that since she had been a minor when the incident occurred and because of her confession, she’d get off with just a few years of jail time. He had known about Hannah and Amy’s involvement in Jennifer’s death since gaining access to the chat between the two girls; however, the news about Richy was quite unexpected. All this time Richy had held the answers, meaning they might have been able to trace the leads back to Michael Hanson much sooner. No, that was the wrong mindset. Richy was still missing, more than likely deceased, he was still in the mine when the fire broke out. He couldn’t be angry at the mechanic, not now, there had to have been a reason Richy had kept it secret, as did Hannah and Amy. God, this secret had killed Amy and ultimately Richy too, Hannah had barely escaped the hands of a maniac. The thought made his adrenaline skyrocket, fingers running through his black, wavy hair. His eyes landed on a public record that had aired just 48hrs ago, clicking on his mouse as the newspaper clipping flooded his screen.
A new statement has been released concerning the case of Hannah Donfort’s kidnapping, Amy Bell Lewis’ death, and the fire in the mine. Jessica Hawkins, a resident of Duskwood since moving here when she was six, and MC, the mysterious source that led Alan to the Grimstone Mine, have given the  police crucial information that connects all three cases. Two recorded video calls have finally disclosed the identity of the kidnapper as Richy Rogers. The link to these two videos can be found here.
Jake watched quietly as he viewed both videos, one of his worst fears coming true. He felt the betrayal, he felt the anger, the pain, but he also felt the sorrow. It wasn’t that he was grieving for himself, but for the others. He couldn’t imagine the pain that the group was experiencing, especially Hannah, Jessy, and MC. Richy was their friend, how could he do this to them? How could he make the last few weeks a living nightmare for Hannah? How could he attack Jessy? How could he allow MC and the others to believe he was dead? How could he strike fear into the group by trying to attack the cabin in the woods? How could he ask MC to come to the Grimstone Mine? The devil had been right before their very eyes, and they had failed to see it. Jake’s breath stuck in his throat as he clicked on the latest article, emotions battling within him as he read the words.
The officers have given up on finding the burnt remains of Richy Rogers, however it is undeniably known that he is dead. The tragedy from ten years ago has finally been solved, but another one has just begun. So many questions arise, so much betrayal and sorrow weighing on the shoulders of the Duskwood community. There are no answers, no explanations for this, some might say this is what the mechanic’s actions warranted him. In just a matter of weeks the people of Duskwood have lost two of their members, Amy Bell Lewis and Richy Rogers. The town offers condolences to the friends and families of the deceased, and desperately hopes for a brighter horizon in the near future.
Hey lovelies! Thank you all for your kind words and support! Please leave reviews and comments in the box below, I love to hear from all of you. I will try to get part two and three out in the next couple of days. ;) Love you all.

Two Sides of the Same Coin
Note: Life hits me so hard so I decided to pour it into writing. I'm not sure with this though but I will just drop it and get back as soon as I can to continue haha. Please excuse my writing and messy grammar since English is not my mother tongue. I wish you could bear it and enjoy my writing.
Summary: Three years after the Duskwood tragedy... is it tragedy though or more like one of those memories which leaving the bittersweet after-taste in your life? Living the ordinary life without the hackerboy seems the best option so far, or you want the universe to pull you back and let you drown in the unknown and bizarre event like what happened in three years ago?

Chapter 1: The Momentous Choice
It’s been three years after the incident which changed my life completely. It’s been three years after the bizarre event which is stained like a gum under my shoe that so hard to get rid of… or it’s just me who didn’t want—never want to get rid those memories of. It’s been three years after Duskwood. Three years, huh? Time flies so fast but the memories, the wounds, everything still stay the same. They said time will heal everything, but I think it depends with the condition too. Or am I the one who don’t allow my own self to be healed yet?
I’m not sure.
Three years has passed; everyone is still in the Duskwood, Phil got out from prison and Aurora is getting the popularity back. Only Rogers’ family moved out from Duskwood. Of course, it is understandable after everything that happened with their son. Hannah is also being better and better, Lily and Thomas keeps making sure with that. Hanson’s family seems like have so much sympathy after everything since they choose to let Hannah go just like that after the veracity of the story is revealed. And Jake…
“It’s time for you to let go, MC.” Jessy sips her cappuccino after saying those hurtful words. “I already buried my memories with Richy and I hope you do the same thing,” her tone is quite flat but her gaze is still showing grief. It doesn’t look like you move on already, Jess.
I can only serve her with the silence. The words I want to let out, it’s just clinging inside my throat and then disappear like thin air. She is not completely wrong and I hate the fact that she is absolutely right with this. It’s been three years already and my last interaction with Jake was kind of… not quite charming.
JAKE: MC. MC: Jake! Are you okay? What happened? Did you manage to hide? JAKE: MC. JAKE: Forget everything I just said just like how I will erase the conversation and everything between us. MC: Jake, what did you mean? This is not funny. JAKE: MC. JAKE: Take care.
JAKE IS NOW OFFLINE
I sigh, playing with the straw of my iced tea. I wonder what actually happened with him; after saying that he loved me, then in several hours he showed up just to end everything out of the blue. I want him to explain, but how could I? When his trace is no longer exist as if he’s never been here at all, as if he’s just an illusion I created to escape from Hannah’s case.
Thanks to Jessy and everyone, because if it’s not because of them that still remembering Jake… I really thought I already lost my mind by creating a hallucination which helping me to investigate Hannah. I really almost lost myself when he erased everything like it was nothing, till the point I was in the state that will do everything just to find him and ask him to explain everything, or even kick his ass so hard for leaving me like that.
I tried so hard to find his trace, hell… I tried really hard. I searched from everything just to look for the glimpse of him even it’s just as tiny as the dust. But not even a little particle could I find and reach with fingertips. What did I even think, I should realise to trace back a hacker isn’t that simple; especially when even the FBI is involved. I should just praying to God for making him still breathing well and no harm laying on him.
I chuckle and of course my sudden chuckle makes Jessy flinched, making her to look at me worriedly. “It’s just funny,” I said as I sip my iced tea; answering her question even though she didn’t say it out loud. “How a short encounter can make me stress for years.”
It’s been a while since I have long conversation with Jessy. She took her days off and begged to pay me visit and here she is, completely sleeping deeply next to me in my small apartment after we spent our weekend for whole day. After what happened with Richy, she’s been through a lot but then she still choose to keep staying in Duskwood and opening flower shop. It’s just a typical of the angst story I used to read when I was in high school, but if it’s the best for her… then I couldn’t complain.
While she is sleeping so deep, here I’m next to her staring at the ceiling above me. My mind is wandering to somewhere I shouldn’t pay attention with. It’s been so long, but why I couldn’t erase it all like he did? I get up from the bed and walk to my desk, getting something out from the drawer. I’m looking at the thing on my hand, the old scratches on its screen, I smile dryly. I turn on my old phone, the mute witness that looking at everything I’ve been through and that include with what happened in Duskwood. All of the conversations I had with them are inside here, except for Jake. Even the screenshots I took from our last conversation also gone like it’s another of my illusion.
I’m searching everything inside my old phone, checking if there is something I miss out; gallery, message, even the email… but nothing. The email I used to send to Jake is also disappeared and of course Hannah’s cloud which used to be attached on my phone, but that’s also no longer there. He is completely gone. I take a deep breath as I turn my old phone off and put it back to the drawer.
There is nothing good to stay in the past; I need to move on like Jessy said… like Jessy also tries to do. I need to put everything behind. After all, I have job to be taken care of. Life as a journalist is enough to keep me busy and put my mind away from everything.
But it’s hard when I’m walking down the street, smelling the delicious smell from the Chinese restaurant across the street. It’s hard when I’m watching the Ghostbuster’s DVD that I borrowed from my colleague. It’s hard when I find a man with black hair and hold myself to not stare at them for hoping one of them is you. It’s really hard.
It’s hard when the sun is setting and the moon is above our head; when you told me about the farewell, that day when you decided to leave that is also the day that you left with half of me. The day when the concrete of our soon-to-be-home became collapsed as easy as the ocean waves crushed the little girl’s fragile sandcastle.
“God, you might be sick of hearing this,” I snickered. The night breeze is brushing my cheeks, playing with my hair while the cold of night didn’t even bother me at all. “But I miss him so much. Jake, do you even miss me like I do?” I whispered as if hoping the breeze will take my words to the air, make it flying to every corner of this world and then reach him and to his heart.

Lillian Gish at MGM

John Gilbert and Lillian Gish in La Bohème (King Vidor, 1926)
La Bohème (King Vidor, 1926)
Cast: Lillian Gish, John Gilbert, Renée Adorée, George Hassell, Roy D'Arcy, Edward Everett Horton, Karl Dane, Mathilde Comont, Gino Corrado, Eugene Pouyet. Screenplay: Frédérique De Grésac; titles: William M. Conselman, Ruth Cummings; based on a novel by Henri Murger and an opera libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. Cinematography: Henrik Sartov. Art direction: Cedric Gibbons, A. Arnold Gillespie. Costume design: Erté. Film editing: Hugh Wynn.
Bohème without Puccini, except for a few themes from the opera interpolated into the piano accompaniment for some contemporary prints. The screenplay by Frédérique (billed as Fred) De Grésac is said to be "suggested by Life in the Latin Quarter" by Henri Murger, which is also the source of the opera libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. But the librettists took liberties with Murger, combining several characters and incidents, that are copied in the movie, so it's pretty clear that De Grésac paid at least as much attention to the opera as he did to Murger. It's very much a vehicle for Lillian Gish, making her debut at MGM. She wanted John Gilbert to play Rodolphe to her Mimi, but sometimes seems to be playing an anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better game with her co-star. There is, for example, a scene in which Gilbert acts out the proposed ending to the play he is writing, with much swashbuckling. Then, a few scenes later, Gish acts it out again with similar verve for a potential backer for the play. Their courtship is a surprisingly hyperactive one, particularly in the scene in which they and their fellow bohemians go on a picnic that involves much running about. And Gish is not content to die calmly: On hearing that she won't live through the night, she makes a mad dash across Paris to be reunited with her lover, at one point allowing herself to be dragged along the streets while hanging onto the back of a horse-cart. Gilbert poses with feet apart and arms akimbo much too often, and the starving bohemians are given to much dashing and dancing. (Among them is the endearing and enduring Edward Everett Horton as Colline.) It's all a bit too much, and I have a feeling that the print I saw shown at the wrong speed, giving it that herky-jerky quality we used to attribute to silent films before experts corrected the speed at which they should be projected. The costumes are by the celebrated designer Erté, who is said to have had so much trouble working with Gish that he gave up designing for Hollywood.

Lars Hanson and Lillian Gish in The Scarlet Letter (Victor Sjöström, 1926)
The Scarlet Letter (Victor Sjöström, 1926)
Cast: Lillian Gish, Lars Hanson, Henry B. Walthall, Karl Dane, William H. Tooker, Marcelle Corday, Fred Herzog, Jules Cowles, Mary Hawes, Joyce Coad, James A. Marcus. Screenplay: Frances Marion, based on a novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Cinematography: Henrik Sartov. Art direction: Cedric Gibbons, Sidney Ullman. Film editing: Hugh Wynn.
I'm pretty sure that any high school students who think they can get by watching Frances Marion's adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter instead of reading it are likely to be disappointed in English class. That said, no film version is going to reproduce the depth of characterization, the symbolic force, or the intellectual density of Hawthorne, so we should be grateful for what this one does give us: one of Lillian Gish's greatest performances. This was Gish's second film for MGM, after La Bohème, and it suggests that her talents were better suited to a contemplative director like Victor Sjöström -- or Seastrom, as MGM insisted on anglicizing his name -- than to King Vidor's more action-oriented style. If her Mimi in La Bohème was disturbingly hyperactive, her Hester Prynne is a marvel of understated acting. She uses her eyes and mouth and the tilt of her chin to convey a miraculous range of emotions, from stubbornness to fear, from strength to frailty. It's a pity that her Dimmesdale, Lars Hanson, doesn't match her in subtlety. He's more successful in this regard in their 1928 collaboration The Wind, which was also directed by Sjöström.

paramedics and the role of storytelling
people around me tend to find it funny that i'm studying to be a paramedic/working in sar but that my main hobby is creative writing.
but the thing is, they're way more connected than you might originally think. storytelling is a defining characteristic of paramedic practice.
paramedics (and those in emergency services) are "immersed in narrative" according to timothy tangherlini, who's a folklorist. it's a key part of the work and the environment. among ambulance personnel, storytelling stands as one of the most developed aspects of the occupational culture. it influences how emergency workers cope with the psychological trauma associated with their work; how they interact with the environment and the public, and how they interact with each other, management and other closely related agencies.
lazarsfeld-jackson, who's done some really cool work on paramedic's oral traditions, also notes that for paramedics/ems, storytelling is a method of /debriefing/. it's informal and a way more to fill time in long hours on a rig, but it's still become part of the job. there's also more to be said about the very cynical, self-deprecating, anti-hero tone of these stories as well as the competition like narrative pool that occurs on stations — "such stories are not fit for public consumption" she goes on to say.
oral tradition is a HUGE part of wider ems, too. i'm saying this from my own experience — i've been a surf lifeguard since i was fourteen, and storytelling is a massive part of filling time on long days, as well as proving your abilities. it's how we learn from and teach e/o. and it carries on. there's stories from years ago that still get used to teach us concepts and warn us of things, there's always the 'oh i heard about this guy' stories, there's a long, interconnected web of stories in surf lifesaving that's an inherent part of the environment. it's also a more consumable form of lessons for younger guards than the traditional kind. for them, too, telling their own stories is a kind of rite of passage. storytelling plays a role in the formation of identity for ems workers.
also from a structural pov, those in ems and services are responding to incidents that are constrained, have a defined climax, and have falling action. most of the situations we respond to have a clear narrative arc, which makes storytelling such an easy way of debriefing.
all that said, because of the nature of the job and the environment, paramedicine and emergency services are strongly connected to storytelling as a discipline for various reasons, and have super strong oral traditions. so it's kind of not strange that i drifted toward it.

Savior: Scientist! Arin x GN Reader
Hey, remember when I said I'd make that Scientist! Arin x Reader fic? Yeah, that was almost 10 months ago... but it's here now, so it's okay! Not actual IRL Arin because he is happily married and that's gross.
TW: Panic attacks, mentioned death (nothing graphic).
Word Count: 3075.
A/N: It/its for Anti because I can, they/them for reader. This is my first published x reader (1,000s have been written in the mind), so feedback is appreciated. Enjoy!
The agents, or whatever they were called, had taken you to this place about a month ago. Or longer, time was hard in a block of stone. The cabin fever was beginning to set in, and the only interaction with others was when food was delivered. There was also a tennis ball, but that got boring quickly and was soon placed on the table to be ignored. Then, just as you were about to bash your head against a wall to alleviate your boredom, a person walked in and sat down at the table.
“They let you have your hair like that? I figured this was a ‘professional facility’ with how my kidnappers conducted themselves.” You stared at the stranger’s long hair, mainly focused on the patch that was bleached. He wasn’t necessarily a bad-looking dude, just not the stereotypical scientist/interrogator you had expected.
“I assure you,” he responded coldly, “my appearance is within any protocols my company might have. Although how I conduct myself is none of your concern.”
“Just saying,” you threw your hands up in mock surrender. “Now what do you want? Not to be rude but I’ve been stuck in here for like, a month now. I’m probably not super high on your priority list and don’t know anything or anyone that could be a threat, so why the whole drugging and shoving me in here ordeal?” The man raised his eyebrows and scratched a note down on his clipboard.
“Any force used for your transport was strictly necessary. We are not here, (Y/N) (L/N), to talk to you about any persons that you may be affiliated with, we are here to talk about the threat you pose to others.”
“Excuse me?”
“Your file states the following. ‘(Y/N) (M/N) (L/N). Abilities: Shadow Manipulation. Includes creation of shadows, ability to bring shadows into this plane or make them tangible, and travelling through shadows.’ Did we miss anything or get any information incorrect?”
“Nope. So how long have you been stalking me? I don’t use my ‘abilities’ very often, so how you found out is a fact I would love to know.”
“I’m afraid that is classified information.”
You rolled your eyes. Of course that was unavailable information. If you were being honest with yourself they were probably going to kill you to ‘eliminate the threat’ or whatever their excuse was.
“I can assure you that I.R.I.S only wants to help you Mx. (L/N).” Your eyes narrowed at that. “While we are on the topic of help,” he smiled softly, “How would you like a job?”
-Timeskip, 9 months later.-
You glanced over Chase’s file, absorbing the information carefully. A small notebook lay beside you, filled with notes on what you needed to ask about the new ‘subject’ (you had never liked that term). It was odd, he had only one incident of spatial transition, but here he was in the facility. You were pretty sure that was the same cell you had been in before you got the job offer, which was a little unnerving, but you’d manage.
“Don’t forget to ask about Altr 114209!” Arin called as he walked past.
“I know how to do my job, Hanson! Don’t try me!” Arin laughed from down the hall. Despite the… weird circumstances of your introduction, he quickly became your best friend in I.R.I.S. His cold exterior had melted away into a warm, chaotic personality. You might have been growing feelings for him, but he didn’t need to know that yet. Why ruin what you had anyway?
You walked into the room, fluorescent lights humming softly. Mr. Brody was sitting at the desk, head in hand. He looked up at you, a cold glare passing over his face at your presence. Your eyes widened at his appearance. Arin had told you he wasn’t doing the best, but this is so much worse than anything you could have anticipated. Despite your concern, there was a job to do, and you were going to do it.
“Hello, Mr. Brody. My name is (Y/N) (L/N), and I will be interviewing you today.” A soft smile graced your lips, trying to appear as friendly as possible. You always had felt a form of sympathy for those you questioned, as you had been in this position not even a year ago.
“This another assessment? I’ve already told the other guy, "I don't know how I got here, I don’t know Altr 114-whatever, I just want to go home!” His chest heaved at the outburst, eyes glistening with tears.
A soft sigh escaped your lips. “Mr. Brody-”
“Oh, so it’s ‘Mr. Brody’ now huh?” He interrupted angrily. “What happened to ‘subject’? Did the other guy tell you it would shut me down? Trying to get more information? Because it won’t-”
“Mr. Brody!” You snapped quickly. He stopped talking immediately, instead resuming the glare he had given earlier. “Apologies,” you stated, “I needed to regain control of the conversation. To answer your question, no, I am technically not qualified to give the Dr. Hopkins Assessment. I simply wanted to inform you about Altr 114209, since you seem to be confused about its existence. Has anyone been following you, harming you, affecting you mentally?”
“I mean, there’s this thing. I don’t know what it is, but I,” his voice broke, “I think it killed my kids.”
“I’m very sorry to hear that, Mr. Brody. And before you say anything,” you quickly cut him off, “this is not from a place of pity or fake sympathy. I know what it feels like to lose someone dear to you. But, for the record, that is Altr 114209. We are currently trying to apprehend him…” you trailed off, eyes widening as you realised why Mr. Brody was here.
“ Mx. (L/N). (Y/N)? Are you okay?” He looked at you, concerned.
“Perfectly fine Mr. Brody,” you replied quickly with a fake smile, “I just need to cut today’s talk short. I’ll see if there’s anything else I can bring you, these rooms can be dreadfully boring. Goodbye!”
“Bye?” He replied, watching as you rushed out of the room.
You ran down the hall, trying your best to remember where Arin’s office was. You turned right, finding the door a few feet down the aisle. You stood in front of the door, taking a few calming breaths. ‘You can beat him up after work (Y/N). Just confirm that he knows, then smack him into next week.’
You knocked and entered a few moments later. Arin looked up from his paperwork, a small smirk on his face. “Thought you were supposed to be interviewing Mr. Brody. Miss me that much (L/N)?”
“Did you know?”
“What are you talking about (Y/N)? Know what?
“Don’t ignore the question, Hanson!” You snapped, the shadows in the room slowly sliding towards the desk where you both were standing. “Did you know that I.R.I.S was planning to lure Altr 114209 here?”
Arin’s eyes widened slightly, a sigh escaping his lips. “(Y/N)…”
“So you did know huh? God, I can’t believe I thought you’d tell me!” You ran your hand through your hair, turning away from him.
“You have to understand, I’m just following protocol, that’s it-”
“No, you’re just being a blind idiot! Do you realize how much of a suicide mission this is? We don’t even know what Altr can do yet, and you're bringing it here. Need I remind you that we have a bunch of Mutants here, most with a grudge much greater than my own? If Altr doesn’t kill us all first, I wouldn’t be surprised if he convinced them to!” You panted, eyes watering as you slowly calmed down from your enraged ranting.
The cold expression on Arin’s face hurt almost more than his lies. Almost.
“It is not our duty to question I.R.I.S, (L/N).” Your jaw dropped at his tone. Cool, collected, painfully similar to how he first spoke when interrogating you. “It would do you well to remember you are technically still a subject here,” he continued, ignoring the tears that threatened to spill down your face. “It would be a shame if you were reported for being a potential threat to the goals of the organisation. Not for you, of course. That would be another failed experiment. It would look rather bad on my record though.”
You wiped your eyes, expression stealing. “So that’s how it is, huh? I guess you better report me then because I’m done.” Turning around, you began to walk away.
Stopping suddenly, you turned to glance at Arin’s apathetic smile. “Glad to know you only see me as a messed up test subject, Hanson,” you laughed mirthlessly. With that, you headed back to your office to gather your things and prepare for your return to a concrete cell.
——
You never did get sent back to your cell, but something had definitely changed. You no longer were ‘supervised’ by Hanson; a different, more serious person had taken his place.
It was boring. You were quickly taken off the Chase Brody assignment after your discovery, and forced to do paperwork as an implied punishment for sticking your nose into places it shouldn’t be.
Occasionally you would pass by Hanson, who would walk by you without even a nod. I.R.I.S employees were cold to you, and you were almost ready to turn yourself in if it meant not having to suffer through your loneliness and boredom anymore. Then, it came.
——
The alarms blared as you ran through the halls, eyes wide in terror. Everyone was dead except for you. Corpses were strewn across the floor, but you wouldn’t- couldn’t- leave. Not until you found Arin.
He’s dead, he’s dead, he’s dead and it’s your fault the shadows sang as they stretched towards you, panic making your carefully crafted control slip. Then you saw Altr standing over someone. No, not someone. Arin, your best friend, the person you loved more than anyone on Earth. Everything stopped.
Altr was not touching him. You would die first. Altr turned to look at you, eyes glowing as it smirked.
“You aren’t touching him,” you snarled, hands curling into fists. Altr's smirk turned into a wolf-like grin.
“Oh, yeah? What are yeh gonna do ‘bout it, lassie?”
“This.”
Shadows erupted from the walls, pulled from an unknown plane; they wrapped around Arin, and with an exhale, you fell into the void.
——
The cabin you had pulled him and yourself to was cosy, if a little isolated. Not that you were complaining, long nights were often spent in your office at a desk. On the rare occasion you left for the night, you would mostly crash at a nearby motel, as your house was sold during the period of time I.R.I.S locked you up.
Arin was… better. He still wasn’t talking to you all that much, but you understood he needed time to cope with what happened at the facility. The money left in your account went to groceries (you would travel to the nearest town via shadow to grab them). You were tense, to say the least. Fear of I.R.I.S- or whatever was left of it- finding you often meant nights sitting up on the roof with tea/coffee/hot chocolate looking at the stars and wishing things were back to normal.
Then, the argument happened.
Tensions were already high, with your last words exchanged basically being a declaration of the end of your friendship.
You’d finally had enough. You and Arin were finishing dinner when it happened, the silence between you thick with awkwardness. Setting down your fork, you decided to speak.
“So when are we talking about it?”
Arin looked up in confusion, eyebrows furrowing. You had always found it attractive when he did that, usually caused by the paperwork that was thrown on his desk by the higher ups. Now, it just annoyed you.
“Talk about what?”
“Don’t play dumb, Hanson.” He gaped at you, the shock of you using his last name rendering him speechless, so you decided to continue. “Everything that happened, you idiot. I.R.I.S, Altr? Y’know, the entire reason we ended up here in the first place! I saved your life, and you have not spoken a word to me.”
Hanson’s gaze turned colder, more neutral. “What is there to say? We’ve ended up here, we’ll probably stay here until funds run out or I.R.I.S comes to save us.” It was your turn to stare at him in shock.
“Go back to I.R.I.S? After everything they did to us? You almost died because of them, Arin! They used you, and me, for their sick little game! We lost Brody. We aren’t of use to them anymore. They are NOT going to save us. God, what do they have on you that you couldn’t imagine breaking free from that hellhole?”
“What do you want me to say, then? Clearly you're looking for a specific response that I’m not understanding. So, enlighten me, (L/N). What do you want me to say?”
“Well, a thank you and an apology would be nice.”
“And why would I do that?” Arin raised a brow at you.
“Why? Why! I saved your pathetic little life, Hanson! I let you live with me, eat the food I bought, sleep in the bed I make every morning, and I ask for nothing else! After everything you did to me, the lies, the radio silence, the cold looks, I still helped you. I don’t know why I did, clearly you’re such a narcissist that you don’t think this is anything but the status quo!”
“Then STOP TRYING TO HELP ME!” Hanson slammed his hands down on the table. You jumped a little, trying to keep your breathing at a normal pace. “I would have gotten out of there, with or without your help, (Y/N).”
You scoffed. “The only way you were getting out of that facility without me was in a body bag, Hanson. Don’t act high and mighty.”
“I’m not ‘acting high and mighty’. I’m tamping down your little saviour complex that seems to flare up whenever you’re around me. I don’t need you (L/N). I thought this was established at the facility. You were a means to an end. Nothing else.”
You wanted to scream, cry, laugh, to do something to stop the pain blooming inside. Instead, you opted for walking out of the door, reestablishing the silence that had permeated the cabin for so long. Soon, you ran, eyes burning, head pounding, heart aching with the stabbing wounds Arin’s words had brought you.
You didn’t know when the panic attack had started. You didn’t know when your quiet breathing turned into hyperventilating. You didn’t know when the sun had set, bathing the woods in darkness. You didn’t know when your shadows had surrounded you, keeping the world out, protecting you with their darkness. All you knew was that you didn’t want to move. You wanted to become one with the trees, hair turned to moss as the world forgot about you, moved on. You wanted it all to stop.  Then, there was a voice. A voice that was almost familiar, calling out your name.
Arin.
Your shadows wrapped around you tighter, trying to hide you from the source of your pain. They grew like vines, wrapping around your skin gently, attempting to hide you from the man chasing after you. Then, he was there. Saying your name softly, like he hadn’t used it not ten minutes ago to wound you. Or was it an hour? Time had blurred in your panic. Tears sprang to your eyes as the shadows swelled, trying to push him away. He said your name again, quietly, reverently, like it was the only thing that mattered. He said it again and again, slowly coaxing you out of the shield that wrapped around you. Your shadows eased away as you calmed, gradually slipping back to where they came from. His arms wrapped around you, as he whispered in your ear.
“Breathe. I’m here now, it’s okay, breathe.”
You calmed, arms wrapping around him in return, clinging onto Arin like he was a raft in a storm; the only thing keeping you afloat in a sea of emotions. He was here. He came looking for you. He didn’t forget about you, let you melt into the forest.
“I’m sorry,” you croaked. Arin looked at you in surprise.
“No, no, no. Don’t be sorry. I’m the one who should be apologising. I’m the reason you're out here.”
“Why did you come looking for me? I thought I was just ‘means to an end’,” you laughed bitterly.
“Because I realised how much of an idiot I am. I never thought you were means to an end, (Y/N), I was scared.” You tilted your head in confusion. “I had never felt emotions that I felt around you,” Arin continued, “and frankly I didn’t know how to handle them. So I thought pushing you away was the answer, that maybe I could go back to my normal self if you weren’t in my life. But I was wrong, and it hurt more than anything I had experienced.
“You matter to me more than words can describe, (Y/N). I just wish you could see yourself the way I see you.”
“And how do you see me?” You whispered, a soft smile on your face.
“Like this.” Then he was kissing you.
Arin’s lips were soft, and gentle. He smelled of wood and ink and something deeper that you don’t think you could place with all the time in the world.
He lifted you up carefully, cradling you in his arms, before slowly making his way back to the cabin. How he knew where to go, even in the dead of night, was a quality that confused you, but you weren’t complaining.
Your room was dark when Arin set you down or your bed; he hadn’t bothered to turn on the lights. You grabbed his wrist before he could walk away. “Stay, please?” You croaked. Arin nodded, a soft smile blossoming on his face. As you fell asleep together, limbs tangled, you knew this was the start of something wonderful.

Just wondering if when the next episode drops could u do a summary of the last chapter (or all the chapters 😂) because I think I've forgotten everything 😂
Love ya xx
Summary of episode 9 what happened?
Hey, Anon! Here we are! Since the last update brought us pretty close, here is the desired summary. Admittedly, it’s not really short, but in the episode was just a lot of important stuff. I hope I haven’t forgotten anything. And if someone wants to make a note or add something, you are of course invited! I have marked everything with numbers so you can use this if you want to say something to a certain point.💚 -> Here is a short (compared to this post) summary of episode 8 I hope that will help you! Have a wonderful day/evening/night, Anon! Love you too!💚🎭🌹
Tumblr media
1- Episode 9 starts right after the call of the man Without Face from episode 8 where he threatened us to kill the group and then us. He doesn't mention Jake.
2- Lilly calls the police and tells them what happened. They promise that they will immediately drive to the house.
3- Thomas says he found Hannah’s phone in Michel Hanson’s house, but the battery is empty. Jake then asks him to charge the phone and let us know about it at 20%.
4- The group finally decides to go together into the house, which Richy has chosen for them to hide. Since Cleo still wants to go to her mother before, as she takes care of the organization of the Pine Glad Festival that will take place the next day, Cleo and the others decide to drive in different cars.
5- Jessy uploads the pictures she took in Michael Hanson’s house to MC. However, the download stops and we will look at the pictures a second time later.
6- Then Jake and MC start to look at the first pictures together. Jake shares his screen with us to make it easier.
7- One of the pictures shows two barrels that have a warning with a skull on it. What is in the barrels we do not know, but on it is a font that Jake wants to make readable.
8- Then we look at the footage from the Creepy Room and find that the MWAF has a picture of everyone in the group and has thus observed them all.
9- Cleo arrives at the house first and then she takes a guided tour with us, showing us the rooms and the balcony.
10- Jessy, Thomas and Lilly get lost on the way to the house in the dense forest but luckily find the way quickly.
11- Then Thomas tells us that Hannah’s phone is finally at 22%, he turned it on although he should not. He told us that the phone has a pin. Jake then gives us the task to find out by asking the others what Hannah’s pin is. We can try three different numbers, but unfortunately we can’t figure it out why Jake has to connect himself. Jake also instructs Thomas not to move or use the phone so that the connection does not break.
12- Then we have to tell Jake that he has to take care of getting us access to Hannah’s phone. And then we look at the pictures of Jessy that were not sent because of the download abort.
13- One of the pictures shows a sack, ropes and tape. We conclude that Hannah was held there by him but do not understand why he took her away. One of the other pictures also shows a bottle water and empty cans. But we wonder why the rope is still there. Shortly before that we can say that there might have been an incident (in the sense that Hannah escaped or something)
14- In other pictures we find again the creepy room where he has all his evidence. We find there a map of Duskwood with a marker on it that goes with a ribbon from a place on the map to a piece of paper. We assume that this is where Jennifer was hit by the car. The other marker, the note, says "Hannah Donfort and Amy Bell Lewis" below it, three more notes saying "Guilty Guilty Guilty".
15- Then we can say that we understand everything now. "Amy and Hannah ran over Jennifer, and Michael Hanson found out." Jake agrees. However, we wonder why Amy’s body was found at the grave of Jennifer, but not Hannah’s.
17- When we look at the pictures the first time, there is a person who was photographed from above. It could also be a photo of a surveillance camera, and most people think it’s Richy. When we look at the pictures for the second time, we see pictures of Richy on which you can also see his face. Jake concludes that the MWAF either watched and photographed Richy for several days or that the person we recognized as Richy is not really Richy. Then we’re done and Jake says goodbye to take care of Hannah’s phone.
18- Then we write with Jessy who is currently looking after the other files of Roger’s garage and then goes with us to explore the area. Lilly writes to Jessy because she is worried that Jessy wants to go into the forest alone. Jessy asks us if we have looked at all the pictures and then asks us if anything in the pictures points to Phil or proves his innocence.
19- Then Jessy tells us that she was sitting in Hannah’s car when she searched the sat nav to find out where Hannah was before her disappearance. The only address brings her (in episode 7 (?)) to Iris. She tells us that she noticed that the driver’s seat in Hannah’s car was much too large. Jessy says that Hannah is only a little bit taller than Jessy herself, but the seat was set as if a big man had been sitting there. Jessy reminds us that Thomas said that Hannah’s car wasn’t there when he got to the apartment after she disappeared. Jessy is sure that a big man brought the car back to Hannah’s house.
20- Then Jessy says that she is sure that Richy would not really have gone to the house, because in the legend the MWAF always gets everyone who lives in the Marked House. Jessy is sure that Richy would never have left his parents there alone.
21- After that, Jake tells us that he has access to the first apps of Hannah, but can only gradually unlock more. Then we log into Hannah’s phone.
22- In the SMS app of Hannah we find nothing except any SMS about advertising for mobile phone contracts, etc.
23- For the app "Maps" we have to turn on the GPS of Hannah’s mobile phone. All the places that are marked are places that could be of interest to Hannah. None of the places seem to be really important, but a marker shows a motel. That’s probably a little sign for Jake so we can rack our brains on it (thanks Everbyte)
24- Then the app "Chats" is activated, the messenger we all use, where some chats are already activated.
Hannah’s dad tells her two jokes, then he tells her that he’s worried because Thomas says she’s gone.
25- The chat with Cleo is all about Cleo asking her again and again if Hannah wants to do something. However, Hannah always cancels all meetings and thinks up something why she can’t.
26- The chat with Thomas then shows the chat of the two, after the big fight. Thomas apologizes to her and tells her that he gave her the front door key back. Then the two write briefly about their first date and remember it back. But suddenly Hannah writes that Thomas should no longer do this to himself and that he deserves something better. Thomas asks what Hannah means, but she doesn’t answer him. Then he writes to her after he learns that she has disappeared and that he is coming to her. The last thing we see is the chat we saw when he wrote it to Hannah a couple of episodes ago. When he tells her that everyone is doing their best to find Hannah.
27- Then there is a chat with Dan who asks her to contact him after she has disappeared. A weird guy said something happened to her and all are worried now. Dan says "I’m helping you, you know that"
Then the chat with Amy is unlocked.
28- Amy first tells Hannah that she saw Hannah taking pills. Amy thinks the pills are to blame for Hannah seeing the MWAF, and Hannah promises that the pills are not the reason. Amy, however, wonders why the MWAF only shows up to Hannah, and Hannah says, "Because I’m responsible for her death. I was driving, you were just sitting next to me" Amy says the only reason Hannah was driving is Amy herself. It all happened because Hannah wanted to help Amy. Then Hannah doesn’t want to talk about it anymore.
29- Next, Hannah writes her that she tried to call Amy, but Amy didn’t answer, so Hannah left everything one the voice box everything. Hannah says, "I hope you’re not angry when you hear all this, please contact me, okay?"
30- Next, Amy answers that she heard the message and ask Hannah for a meeting in 20 minutes at Michael Hanson’s house. Hannah wonders why at the house of MH, but agrees.
31- Hannah’s last search in the internet browser is the Pine Glade Festival, she also searched for the bar Aurora and then for Roger’s garage. The rest are just personal things.
32- Then we tell Jake that we found the chat between Hannah and Amy and that we now have the confirmation that Hannah and Amy really killed Jennifer.
33- Then we talk to Jake about the rest of your Hannah's chat with Amy. Amy thought Hannah’s antidepressants were to blame for Hannah seeing the MWAF. Jake then says that Hannah probably took the surveillance camera footage we found of the bedroom to prove to Amy that it wasn’t the pills. But she did not succeed.
34- When we first looked at the pictures with Jake and saw the house of Michael Hanson from the outside, Jake had the feeling that he had already seen it there. But he is unsure. Now that we know that the last place Hannah was at is this house, Jake believes he can remember it because Hannah was attacked there. Then we decide to tell the group about it, but leave out the meeting of Hannah and Amy. We then write in the group chat, but no answer. Jake then gives the other the chat between Hannah and Amy and then he continues working on Hannah’s phone.
35- Next, we get a notification from Hannah’s phone, the MWAF wrote to us. He threatens us and says it was a big mistake that we took the phone.
36- Then the group finally comes online. Of course, everyone is shocked when we tell them that Hannah and Amy are the culprits of Jennifer’s death. But Lilly hits it the most, she goes offline, then we talk about the map with the marker hanging in Michael Hanson’s house. We are annoyed that we cannot go there because nobody is in Duskwood anymore.
But then Dan suddenly asks if someone can pick him up from the hospital, and Cleo agrees.
37- Then Jake unlocks the photo gallery on Hannah’s phone, some pictures of Hannah’s life, most of them with others from the group. None of them are really helpful.
38- Then Jake suddenly tells us that someone is using Hannah’s phone. Any manual input could cause us to lose the connection to the phone, which is why MC then quickly writes into the group and says that Jake can see that someone is using the phone. Then the use stops. Since the person will not admit it, of course, we get the task, if it happens again, to take a photo of the person with the camera of Hannah’s phone.
But nothing happens at all.
39- Then Lilly writes in the group of Jake, her and us. She explains that when Hannah and Lilly were still living with her parents, she got up at night, but she is not sure why. She then saw Hannah standing in the dark hallway at the window and watching the edge of the forest. Lilly had asked her what Hannah was doing there and Hannah said, "There’s a man standing outside at the edge of the forest"
40- Lilly says there was no man there. She started to cry and woke up the parents, who then came and brought Lilly back to bed. A few days later, the same thing happened again. Lilly had not dared to say anything to Hannah this time and then just went back to bed. Then we remembered the recording we had of Hannah and her psychologist. Hannah said, "He stood in the forest and watched us"
Lilly asks what he was watching and we can say "How they buried Jennifer’s body in the forest"
We then come to the conclusion that someone else and not Michael Hanson was the person who saw Hannah and Amy.
Then we end the chat with Lilly but Jake sends us three more messages. "Hannah’s pills may not have been the reason why the man without a face appeared, but the reason he disappeared"
41- Then we get another message from our best friend Crow man, who once again threatens us to kill everyone so that we finally stay out.
42- Then we take care of Hannah’s camera again and wait for the person who used Hannah’s phone. Of course, it’s none other than Thomas. Unfortunately, we lost the connection to Hannah’s phone, so Jake has to restore it.
Of course we write Thomas and show him the picture of him, but he does not come online. Instead, Jessy tells us that Thomas just ran past her.
43- Then we get a message from Dan in the group chat. He suddenly sends us the photos of the place Michael Hanson marked on the map of Duskwood. Cleo and Dan went there before they came back to the house.
Then Cleo writes us and sends us the picture of Dan’s wheelchair.
44- Then Thomas finally writes us. In the beginning we talk about him thinking that Hannah is dead, and he doesn’t want everyone to pretend that it’s not possible. He also says that Richy is death. But Thomas is the first to really say that unfortunately the probability is very high that Hannah really does not live anymore. Thomas is also disappointed that Hannah didn’t tell him about all this, he tells how he feels. Says he wishes Hannah really only had an affair and apologizes for being on Hannah’s phone.
45- Then we write briefly with Jake, who probably read the chat between us and Thomas. We can say to him, among other things, "You have long feared that Hannah is dead, right?"
Cleo and Dan finally arrive at the house.
46- Cleo then writes us to talk about Dan. She finds it strange that Dan insisted that the two go to the scene of the accident. Then she tells us that he was not standing in front of the hospital when she arrived, but some streets away. We then suspect that Dan was not allowed to go, but just disappeared, and he didn’t even had his luggage with him. She is also surprised that Dan didn’t say anything about the fact that he now has a wheelchair.
Jake then tells us that he has access to Hannah’s phone again, and we tell him that Michael Hanson wrote us. Jake says he didn’t expect that.
Then Lilly informs us that she is about to start the campfire and that she will call us.
Then Jake says he looked at Hannah’s internet search history, and the last thing she was looking for is the Pine Glade Festival. Then we realize that the fesival is the next day the and that Jennifer tomorrow is dead for 10 years. And that this can by no means mean anything good.
Jake says we should definitely ask the others about it, and if anyone can remember the festival 10 years ago.
Then Lilly calls us and shows us how everyone is sitting together and Thomas plays the guitar. That’s why we decide not to address the group immediately but to give them a little more time.
47- Then Dan writes to us and we ask him if he left the hospital and talk to him about the wheelchair. Dan then says that he is the only one who can really protect the group if necessary. That he ran out of the hospital to protect the others, he says he owes it to Richy.
Then Cleo writes in the group chat and says that everyone should come to the kitchen because there is something to discuss.
48- We get another message from the MWAF and he tells us that he will come and kill the others now. He says that he has set a trap for us and that we have not even noticed it.
Then Lilly calls us because she doesn’t want to exclude us from the conversation with Cleo.
49- Cleo says she was looking for a lighter and found a gun, which she then puts on the table and asks if it belongs to someone. Dan confirms it’s a real weapon.
50- Suddenly Hannah’s cell phone starts ringing in the next room, the number is suppressed, Jessy takes the call, of course it’s the MWAF.
51- He says that he knows where the group is and that we were too sure, then he says that we have fallen into his trap. Then he says that he is coming now and finishing it, suddenly everything is dark, the light has gone out. You can hear the squeaking of the wooden floor and footsteps, then everyone screams.
The episode is over.

Its highly inquisitive, pleasant nature has caused several interviewers to disclose classified information to it or empathise in the extreme, and in 7 cases, attempt to set it free. Attempts to extract information by force has led to interviewers experiencing electric shock, nausea, irrational fear, vomiting, nightmares and psychosis.
Despite its apparent keen desire to cooperate in the capture of ALTR 114209 any information previously shared has since been discovered to have aided ALTR 114209 in some way. An attempt to provide false information to ALTR 7129 to aid in the capture of ALTR 114209 failed during interview when the interviewer offered the lie. The slightest change in its expression turned its bright, helpful smile into one so deviously 'Hellish' that the interviewer is still undergoing psyche evaluation for night terrors.
ALTR 7129 remains deceptively pleasant and selectively cooperative. Careful monitoring shows aberrations in behaviour and camera glitches that coincide with known activity of ALTR 114209. It is still unknown how, or why this happens.

Remember Duskwood Part One
EPISODE 1 -10 SPOILERS
I lay on the couch, watching the news coverage, hoping to see something, anything, that would tell me he was still alive, that he was okay. For days, the incident in Duskwood had taken over the news channels, even here in the states. Piles of tissues crammed into discarded tissue boxes lay on the floor. Empty cup ramen containers and glasses stained with leftover tea covered every surface. I knew that I needed a shower, desperately, but I just couldn’t bring myself to walk several feet to the bathroom. Even getting up to pee was getting more tedious than I’d expected.
I’d dealt with my fair share of depressive episodes, sure, but nothing compared to this. I couldn’t think of a single thing that came close to what I was feeling now. In just a few weeks, I’d gained a group of friends halfway across the globe, fell in love with a boy I couldn’t recognize passing on the street even now, and lost them just as quickly.
After I spoke with Richy, after he admitted the atrocities he’d committed, I finally understood. All this time, we’d been chasing the ghost of a man who was no longer with us, Michael Hanson. He’d gone into the forest, sometime after his daughter’s death, and was never seen again. After weeks of searching, years even, Police Chief Alan Bloomgate officially declared Michael dead. This wasn’t public knowledge apparently, as no one seemed to know a damn thing about it, except maybe Phil.
Phil. How many times have I found myself wishing I’d had just a few more moments to speak with him. Who left Michael’s last will and testament on the bar just before his arrest? Was that Richy? It had to have been, right? Dan was already in the hospital, fanning the flames for his arrest, so it couldn’t have been him. So many questions I had would forever be left unanswered.
Phil’s been released, given the circumstances, and has been allowed to return to business as usual at the Aurora. Alan dropped all charges against him, regarding Michael Hanson since there would never be evidence to support a trial. We never found out how he got ahold of Jennifer’s bracelet. Maybe it was left in the Aurora after all. When he pawned it, the memory of the evening Jennifer died resurfaced, and Hannah began to hallucinate the man without a face stalking her. After some time with her therapist and an anti-depressant, she’d stopped seeing the man altogether. How did we not see the signs?
Hannah brought her vehicle to Roger’s Garage after she hit a pothole and did significant damage to her oil pan. She was visibly distraught but wouldn’t tell Richy why. It didn’t take him long to sort through his thoughts and decide that the MWAF was indeed the source of her problems. He decided that he wanted to turn himself in, along with the others, but he needed them to be on board with this plan. He couldn’t do this without them. After all, he wasn’t the one responsible for Jennifer’s death, he’d just helped them cover it up.
First, he approached Amy. She was dealing with the memories just fine. No delusions, no repercussions, so of course, she wasn’t going to turn herself in. Somehow, Richy got his hands on the conversations between Hannah and Amy, but he never really said how. After seeing how terrified Hannah had been and how desperately she wanted to admit to her crimes when the man appeared, he decided to assume the MWAF identity and began stalking Amy, hoping it would convince her as well.
What he didn’t plan for, was Amy’s suicide.
He’d only wanted to approach her one more time with the idea of turning themselves in. Just one more go of it, since he’d been appearing to her as the man without a face for some time, but when he showed up at her apartment, it was already too late. After finding Amy’s body, Richy found a letter on her nightstand. In this letter, Amy cited the man without a face as the reason, and only reason, that she was choosing to end her life. She felt some guilt over Jennifer, sure, but that wasn’t the reason she’d done it. As Richy held the letter in his hands, Amy’s phone began to ring. It was Hannah. She’d left a voicemail, so, Richy had a listen. She’d seen someone on the cameras in front of Amy’s house, and it looked like the culprit had dropped something. She’d retrieved it, a receipt from Richy’s pocket. She was contacting Alan Bloomgate to ask if he could track the person from the receipt, which made Richy panic.
This was never his intention. He simply wanted to scare Amy into believing what he believed; it was time to turn themselves in. In his panic, Richy did the only thing he could think of. He marked Amy’s door with the sign of the Raven and fell even further into his role as the MWAF. He removed Amy’s body from her home, and carried it into the woods surrounding Duskwood, dumping it near the memorial for Jennifer Hanson. A symbol of his regret and a starting point for our investigation.
We’d always known that there was a third person on the scene when Jennifer died, but I’d never really wanted to believe it was Richy, even if part of me was saying it was so. When Richy was marked, I started to wonder; was he the 3rd person after all? And he was, only he was also the man without a face.
He’d go on to fake his own death, after kidnapping Hannah and moving her to a new location, the mines beneath a waterfall, roughly a quarter mile from the edge of the Duskwood forest, a hot spot during the Pine Glade Festival. Hardly anyone knew there was an escape hatch hidden there, and the mines had been closed for nearly 200 years. A perfect spot to move his hostage when we’d finally started down the trail towards Michael Hanson. It still makes little to no sense that he’d use the man’s old home for his base of operations. He knew our investigation would take us there eventually.
I did this often. Ran through what Richy had told me towards the end, and the results of Jake and I’s two-week-long investigation into his sister’s whereabouts. Maybe it was because I kept watching the coverage when my eyes were open and replaying the conversation between Jessy and Richy when they close. I can’t believe it any more than she can. I just can’t. Richy was a good guy, in fact, he was the first friend I made in that group. Kind, caring; the big brother type. Richy wouldn’t hurt a fly.
At a young age, he took over his father’s business, because his mother was diagnosed with dementia. His father, now an alcoholic, couldn’t manage both, so Richy took on the business during the day, and her care at night. Not only do I have trouble figuring out when he found time to do these things, and unnoticed at that, I can’t imagine him getting away with it.
In fact, I keep seeing the video footage of Hannah’s rescue, and the call with Alan. When he found her, she was begging him to go into that mine, telling him Richy was still inside there, tied up and alone. She wanted him to be safe. Had she not realized what he’d done? Was it because he wore a mask around her, and kept her sedated? I still couldn’t wrap my head around it. Too many things didn’t make a lick of sense.
A commercial for sugared cereal reminds me that I haven’t eaten in what feels like weeks. Aside from the few cup ramen containers, it would be clear to anyone food hadn’t passed these lips since I’d last heard from Jake. Not a morsel. Every time I thought about food, I thought about Jake. Would we ever be able to meet in Duskwood as we’d promised each other? Would he be able to take me on that date for Chinese food like he’d wanted to? Would I ever see him again?
Just the thought of food made me sick. The thought of Jake made me sick. I just wanted this nightmare to end, but it felt like it was only beginning.
Richy had been shot by Dan when he entered the cabin. We’d been mistaken, thinking that Michael Hanson had accessed the GPS file through the maps app when we opened it. Maybe Richy HAD used that to help guide him through the dark forest at night, but he’d already known early on where we’d be. He’d rented the cabin for us, after all.
He’d been in rough shape when he managed to escape. I couldn’t believe he made his way back to the truck with those injuries, and then back to the mines. What was he thinking? At that point, his ultimate plan had been foiled. He’d intended to show Hannah and himself escaping the mines together, and pin everything on Michael after all. Then he’d come clean about the incident with Jennifer, and all would be forgotten. Eventually. After being shot, he’d be recognized as the culprit no matter what. The injuries were too specific. The bullet would match the gun. There was no longer a way out of his crimes.
So, he invited me to meet him in Duskwood. Come alone, and he’d release the hostages. I’d wanted to do it, I really did, but Jake wasn’t happy with the idea. He’d respected my decision, or so I thought, but I still think he talked some sense into the others while I was away. When I returned, they changed their mind and decided that I was too important to the group to sacrifice me for another, even if it meant Hannah’s death. This prompted Jake to go in my stead.
I will never forgive myself for that.
It turned out, he wasn’t IN Duskwood, but instead, nearby. Close enough that he most likely planted the Nym0s sticker by the lake. Close enough that had I flown there, he’d have been within reach. Close enough that…
I can’t finish that thought, not even close. After he arrived at the entrance to the mines, I stayed by the phone. I was nervous. The tunnel system had long since been abandoned. 800 people died in the late 1800s during a fire that caused an explosion. The cause was never found, and the mines were in bad shape. 200-foot shafts with rusted ladders. Water dripping from the already compromised ceilings. The map he’d found was no longer accurate as many of the tunnels had collapsed over time. He was lost before he even began.
Thankfully, he stumbled upon the central operating room, where Richy had stored all the evidence removed from the Hanson Ranch previously. The police, of course, had found nothing when Lilly alerted them. Alan had only sent one person, and because of this, it was even harder to convince him that something was under that waterfall. If only he’d stuck around as I’d asked.
I begged Jake to leave the computer when he found it, but he wanted to fix the footage. It was currently broadcasting on a loop, and he wanted me to be able to see within the tunnel system and track the killer, but I wanted to see him to safety. I didn’t care about Hannah nearly as much as I cared about him, and by this point, she’d already been saved. The only person left inside with him was Richy and little did we know… He wasn’t worth saving.
I mean, he was. I loved Richy dearly, but he was already gone. Amy’s suicide, Jennifer’s accident, Hannah’s slow decline, he was ready to take the fall, and fall he did. I wish I’d had time to warn him that he wasn’t alone. Jake was inside with him when he lit that fire and the mines exploded. Had Jake made it out of there alive? The FBI, who called them? Was it because they were already tracking Jake’s devices? Did he leave himself open for too long? Were they able to figure out his location because of our conversations? Was it my fault?
I will myself off the couch, but my limbs refuse to cooperate. Instead, I throw the blankets back over my eyes. I’ve had enough, seen enough. I fumble around for the remote but give up after a few minutes, exhausted, defeated, and sick of just about everything, including myself. The last thought I have before I fall asleep is if they’ll be able to recover Richy’s body and will there be a funeral in Duskwood for him after everything he’s done.

Death in Duskwood
DISCLAIMER: Everyone is at the cabin in the woods, making it easier for this scene to take place. When the MWAF shows up, he realizes that MC is actually already in Duskwood.
“Have you figured out the location of the stream yet?” MC asked as she peered over the hacker’s shoulder.
“No, he is hiding behind encryptions. A rather good job I must hand to him.” Jake answered, trying to not show the effect the live stream had on him.
“Jake, it’s okay.” MC’s hand found its way to the top of one of his. “It’s okay to be worried.”
“Look at her,” Jake sighed as his fingers tapped on the desk. “You can tell that she has cuts on her face, it looks like she lost weight, the ropes around her wrists are probably chafing. She’s clearly been drugged, how could he do something like this?”
“I don’t know,” MC shook her head. “But we’re going to bring an end to this nightmare, I promise.”
“We have to save her, and save Richy too, we need to bring Michael to justice.” Jake insisted. “But right now it’s like we’re at a standstill, I feel utterly helpless, MC.”
“You really think it’s Michael?” MC asked, biting her bottom lip.
“Everything points to him as the culprit. He’s basically the legend, MC. His daughter was killed in the forest, no one admitted their guilt and involvement, so he took the law into his own hands. He found those who were responsible for Jennifer’s death, and now he’s punishing them.”
“But why was Amy killed and Hannah wasn’t? In Hannah’s texts it says that she was the one driving, not Amy.” MC reminded.
“I cannot answer that question,” Jake sighed. “I do not know why Amy was killed and Hannah wasn’t. I can only guess it’s because he wants to make a statement and kill Hannah tomorrow, on the anniversary of Jennifer’s death.”
“And why was Richy captured? Nothing in your sister’s chat referenced any involvement on his part, right?”
“At least not that we can see,” Jake agreed. “And Richy showed no sign of knowing of the incident, especially not to the point of  being involved in it.”
“It just doesn’t make sense. Michael would be far too old for this.”
“There’s no other explanation, MC. All the photos Jessy took of the evidence was found at the Hanson house.”
“What if he’s being framed? The kidnapper is pinning it all on someone who has been dead for years?”
“We do not know if he is really dead though. He could have been hiding out all these years.”
“I think that’s unlikely,” MC walked to the window and gazed at the forest woodland. “But I don’t know anymore, I feel like I’m slowly losing my mental health.”
“It will end soon, MC. I promise.” The hacker’s warm breath appeared near her shoulder, arms wrapping around her waist. “We will find Hannah, and Richy too.”
“And what happens after that?” MC turned around, placing her hands on the top of his shoulders. “What happens to us?”
“We will make the most of whatever time permits,” Jake said. “You have seen what a life with and without me can look like, and if you really want to make this work, we will find a way.”
“Yes.” MC smiled, “More like I will find the way.”
“With my help of course,” Jake smirked back, the corners of his blue eyes slightly crinkling.
MC’s phone buzzed in her back pocket, causing her to pull away from Jake’s embrace. Her throat grew dry as she read the message on her lock screen.
I am coming, MC.
“What does this mean?” The palms of her hand started to get sweaty, “He doesn’t know where we are, right?”
Jake quickly darted back to his computer, pounding away on his keyboard. “MC.”
“You’re scaring me,” MC said as he locked eyes with her. “Please tell me we’re safe.”
“When we opened the maps app on Hannah’s phone, we turned on location sharing. Michael knows where we are, MC.”
“It’s all my fault,” MC sunk on the bed, her head finding refuge in her hands. “We’re in danger.”
“I was the one who instructed you to open up the maps,” Jake shook his head as he joined her on the bed. “It’s my fault, not yours. I will take full responsibility for what happened when we tell the others.”
“No, we did it together, we share the blame.” MC stood up, “They will know we would never do something like this on purpose.”
“We need to warn them,” Jake took her hand and led her down the stairs.
“Guys?” MC called out, “We need to talk, it’s important.”
“What is it, MC?” Thomas asked as he walked into the living room, the others slowly traipsing in behind him, Dan bringing up the rear with his wheelchair.
“We need to leave the cabin now. Michael knows our location.” MC said.
“What?!” Jessy gasps, “How is that possible?!”
“When we opened up the maps app on Hannah’s phone, we unintentionally turned on location sharing. Michael knew this would happen, he had planned for this to occur.” Jake informed.
“It was a trap,” Cleo mumbled.
“He knew I’d take the phone,” Thomas’s voice faltered. “It’s my fault.”
“No, finding Hannah’s phone helped reveal the truth of what happened ten years ago.”
“It’s not your fault, Thomas.” The hacker agreed with MC. “But now we have to get to safety.”
“I have an idea,” Dan raised his hand mockingly. “We stay.”
“What?” Lilly whipped her head around to gawk at him.
“We’ve run long enough, it’s time to end this.” Dan insisted. “We can get this masked freak.”
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but he’s right.” MC nodded, “We even have the upper hand in the element of surprise.”
“Exactly! He won’t expect us to defend ourselves.” Dan smiled proudly as MC took his side.
“You really think we can do this?” Jessy hesitated. “Really stand up to him?”
“For Hannah we can. For Richy we can. And for ourselves, yes.” MC took the redhead’s hands.
“Quite an authoress,” Dan clapped at MC’s little motivational speech. “Who’s with us?”
“I am,” Cleo said in a firm voice. “I’m done running.”
“For Hannah,” Lilly agreed, “for Richy.”
Thomas nodded, “We can pull this off.”
“You are all either very brave or very naive,” Jake finally spoke. “I don’t know which.”
“We have a weapon too,” Dan remembered. “And there’s only one of him and six of us.”
“A weapon that we don’t know who it belongs to,” Cleo narrowed her eyes. “ Anyone going to confess to owning it yet?”
The room remained silent as everyone shared gazes with each other, no one willing to admit bringing the pistol.
“There is something you all have failed to consider.” Jake said, “Michael does not know MC and I are also here in this cabin.”
“I see that more as another advantage,” Dan brushed off the hacker’s concern. “More of us against him.”
“But MC is in danger now,” Jake’s voice was low.
“No offense, but we’re all in danger. We all have been in danger since the very beginning of this mess, even before MC was. It’s nothing new.” Dan glared.
“Dan, stop it.” Jessy rolled her eyes at her boyfriend.
“Yeah yeah,” Dan sighed. “Hackerman is just worried, I get it.”
A faint blush spread across Jake’s face, but his jaw still remained set. “We must do everything in our power to keep her safe.”
“Jake, that’s not-” MC started.
“He’s right though,” Cleo agreed. “Michael wants YOU, MC. You’re his main goal. He is attacking everyone else because he wants to affect you. He attacked Jessy while she was on the phone with you, same as Richy. Now he wants to attack us out in the cabin, he wants you to feel helpless.”
“It’s not fair to put everyone else’s life on the stake if I’m not willing to do the same,” MC’s eyes flashed. “I want to help and to do so we need to work as a team.”
“Since we got that out of the way, here’s the plan.” Dan emphasizes with his hands. “There are two entrances inside, the upper deck and the lower floor. Thomas will be stationed in the downstairs bathroom, Lilly and Cleo in the basement bedroom that has the window facing the road. Hackerboy and I will guard the main level of the house, Jessy and MC in the attic bedroom posing as the lookouts.”
Jake opened his mouth to refute the arrangements, but on a second thought he remained silent. Working with Dan might give him an opportunity to settle issues between him, and MC being on the top floor was definitely  the safest location for her.
“Who has the pistol?” Cleo asked, crossing her arms.
“I will keep it, I am the only one who knows how to use one of these.” Dan said in matter-of-factly tone.
“Speak for yourself,” Jake muttered underneath his breath.
Cleo still looked annoyed, but didn’t argue with Dan’s decision. “Okay, we better all get to our positions then.”
“Keep your phones on hand so we can communicate with each other.” Jake ordered, “And once everyone is in their prescribed location, shut off all the lights.”
“Okay,” Lilly nodded as she followed Cleo down the stairs, Thomas behind her.
“You better be careful,” Jessy pointed her finger at Dan. “Don’t try to play a hero.”
“I don't have to play a hero when I already am one,” Dan winked as she rolled her eyes.
MC stared hesitantly at the hacker, her eyes meeting his electric blue ones. “Promise me you’ll be okay,” she whispered.
“I promise, I won’t let anything separate us, MC.” Jake rubbed his thumb across the top of her right hand knuckles, and then he let it go. “Better get upstairs now, Jessica is waiting for you.”
Jessy rolled her eyes at Jake insisting on using her formal name, then the two girls headed up to the attic.
The two men stared at each other, both remaining silent until Dan spoke. “I still don’t trust you.”
“I know.”
“And I definitely don't like you.”
“I noticed.”
“But I can tell MC means a lot to you, and as much as it disgusts  me, I know she feels the same. And since I am actually a really generous guy, I am willing to lay my prejudices aside.”
“Thank you.”
“And no, you can not have the gun.”
“How did you know I was going to ask for it?” Jake was taken aback.
“Lucky guess, but you proved it right. If I somehow get injured, then you may take it, but until then it’s staying by my side.” Dan smirked as he patted the gun.
“Fair enough.”
“I’m glad we got that sorted, Jake.” Dan finally called the man by name.
“So am I, Dan.” The hacker returned the small courtesy.
“And so now we wait.”
“Yes.” Jake looked out the picturesque window, sweat forming in the palms of his hands. He had a bad feeling about this, one that was impossible to shake off.
“I’m scared, MC.” Jessy confessed as the two girls sat on the edge of the bed, looking out into the darkness below. “Does that make me weak?”
“No,” MC whispered softly. “It’s okay to be scared. I’m scared too, scared that something is going to happen to you all and I can’t prevent it.”
“I see something,” Jessy suddenly shouted, standing to her feet. “A light.”
“Where?” MC quickly joined her side, peering out into the blackness.
“There!” Jessy’s finger hit the glass as a light in the distance flashed. “And again!”
“I see it too,” MC’s breath grew shallow. “I’m going to text the others.”
MC: He’s here
Dan: Showtime. Is everyone in their places?
Thomas: Yes
Cleo: Lilly and I are in the designated bedroom assigned to us
Dan: Good, keep your eyes peeled.
MC shoved her phone into her back pocket, watching the light of what looked to be a lantern grew closer. “He’s walking towards us.”
“I’m so scared, MC.” Jessy quivered.
“I’m with you, Jessy.” MC held the girl’s hands, “I won’t let anything happen to you, I promise.”
Jessy hugged her tightly, their eyes never leaving the light which took on the illusion of floating. Then suddenly a small gasp escaped the redhead’s lips, “I can see him.”
“He’s challenging us,” MC said in a solemn voice as she took in the scene before them.
The MWAF stared up at the cabin, a lantern in his hand. The flame illuminated his masked face, a dark hoodie broadcasting his tall and what looked like a well-built form.
This can’t be Michael, it’s impossible. He looks too able still, too strong, it can’t be Michael. Michael’s dead. Thoughts dashed inside MC’s head as she watched the kidnapper tilt his head menacingly at the house, knowing that he was indeed seen. But if he wasn’t Michael, who was he?
Suddenly the light went out, causing Jessy to let out a small scream. “I can’t see him!”
“I can’t either,” MC said in a worried tone as she pulled out her phone.
MC: The lantern went out, I think he’s approaching the cabin
Dan: Keep your eyes and ears peeled, we can do this
A few minutes passed and then suddenly Thomas came online.
Thomas: I see him! He’s on the bottom deck
Cleo: I see him too!
MC: What is he doing?
Thomas: I can’t tell, but I’m going to go out there. I can catch him by surprise
Dan: Dude no
MC’s heart raced as Thomas went offline, this wasn’t good.
Cleo: I am going to try to help
Cleo then went offline, adding to MC’s fear. What were they doing? This was suicide! Why had she encouraged them to stay in the cabin?
Lilly: I have to help them
Dan: Crap
As the last two went offline, Jessy and MC grasped each other's hands tightly. “Why hasn’t Jake replied?”
“Because Dan is probably telling him what’s happening,” MC answered. “Jake is going to try to help them, I know he is.”
“Why can’t we hear anything?” Jessy panicked at the sheer silence.
“Jessy, we have to go to them.” MC looked at her.
“I’m scared.”
“I’m with you, Jessy. I won’t let anything happen to you, I promised you that.” MC said, “Please. I can’t do this without you.”
“One for all?”
“And all for one,” MC managed to smile.
The two girls gingerly made their way down the steps, MC in the lead, her flashlight illuminating the dark cabin. Not a sound could be heard except for the creaking of the floor underneath their feet, and the blowing of the curtain drapes from the open balcony doors.
“Dan?” Jessy whispered fearfully as she turned on her own flashlight. After getting no response, she shone her light on the stairs leading to the bottom floor.
Some sound captured the girls’ ears and both simultaneously casted their beams upon the MWAF.
A cry escaped Jessy’s lips as she fell backwards onto the floor, legs rapidly pushing her away from the masked man as he walked towards. “No, no, please.”
“Michael, stop.” MC spoke.
“MC?” The man’s voice was heard loud and clear, somehow familiar. “You’re in Duskwood.”
“Yes.” MC stepped in front of the redhead, shielding her from the man. “It’s me you want, not her, not the others. I’m the one you want to hurt, let the others go.”
“I have a reason for everything,” the man insisted as his voice held a tinge of remorse.
“I know,” MC bravely closed the gap between them. “But this is not the right way, you know that.”
Without warning the MWAF suddenly grabbed MC, yanking her around so her back was against his chest, his right arm pressing against her throat. “Don’t shoot.”
“Let her go,” Dan was suddenly seen in the moonlight that started to flood inside the room, both hands holding the pistol.
“Dan, you don’t want to-” the man started to say.
A gunshot rang out, the bullet whizzing through the air. Both MC and the kidnapper fell to the floor with a loud thud.
“What did you frickin do?!” Jake’s voice filled the room. “MC!” The hacker ran towards her and knelt by her side.
“Dan?” Jessy cried as realization took over.
“My finger slipped, I didn’t mean to pull the trigger. Oh god, is she okay?” Dan’s voice rose as panic took over, quickly wheeling himself over to where MC lay.
A steady stream of blood was pooling in the upper abdomen of MC’s shirt, her gasps filling the air mingling aside with the kidnapper’s groans.
“The bullet went through her abdomen, hitting him as well in his lower stomach.” Jake’s voice was loud and strained.
MC’s hand grasped Jake’s wrist as she tried to form words, “J-j-jake. Help Rich-ch-y.”
The hacker’s face fell as he realized her words, ripping the mask off the man.
“Richy,” Jessy’s voice was nearly inaudible. “No, it can’t be.”
“What happened?!” Cleo shouted as she ran up the stairs, the other two behind her. “We heard the gunshot, we were so worried that-”
“Oh no,” Lilly’s hands covered her mouth as she took in the scene.
“Richy?” Thomas almost stumbled, “You’re the-”
“I’m s-sorry,” the blonde’s voice was racked with pain. “It wasn’t suppo-o-sed to go this f-f-far.”
“You kidnapped Hannah,” Thomas said, shocked.
“She’s in the Grimstone M-m-mine, there’s a red s-scarlet rope that leads t-t-the way.” Richy gasped out. “I’m so s-s-sorry.”
MC’s hand found the mechanic’s as she weakly gave it a squeeze, “It’s okay, Richy. I f-f-forgive you.”
“Someone call the police!” Jake demanded as his attention returned back to MC, Lilly taking the initiative. “MC, please. This isn’t the end, remember? We haven’t had a future together yet, we haven’t even kissed yet. I can’t lose you yet, MC, please.”
“Shhh,” tears streamed down MC’s cheeks as pain shot up her stomach, causing her to cry out.
“Richy?” Jessy sobbed as the blue eyes she knew so well went dim moments later, his breath stopping.
Cleo hugged the girl, struggling to be strong for her. “His eyes.”
The hacker could barely see through his own tears but he managed to brush his fingers over the deceased mechanic’s eyelids, closing them. “He’s dead.”
“J-j-jake?”
“I’m here, MC. I’m always here.” Jake brought his hand to her face, brushing away the tears.
“I love you,” her voice somehow sounded stronger, the stutter fading. “Don’t ever forget that.”
“I love you too,” Jake wept as he pressed his lips to hers for the very first time. When  he pulled away, she was gone, the life had left her. Her eyes were closed, her fingers no longer grasping his. The girl he had fallen in love with had just slipped through his fingers. She was dead, his world was once again yanked from underneath his feet. She. Was. Gone.
“The police are on their way,” Lilly said as sobs climbed up her throat.
“I’m sorry, Jake. I’m so sorry,” Dan pinched the bridge of his nose, tears falling from his eyes.
“Find Hannah and I’ll forgive you,” the hacker forced himself to his feet. “I must go, I can’t be found here, not anymore. Find Hannah, tell her the truth.”
“Jake-”
The man was no longer listening as he took the steps two at a time, after cramming his computer and gear back into his backpack, he took one last look at the nightstand. MC’s necklace that had always hung around her neck since she was thirteen laid upon the stand, the night before she had gifted it to him as a token of her love. Underneath it was a polaroid picture of the two of them together, noses touching in what she called an eskimo kiss. More tears fell from Jake’s eyes as he placed the necklace in his pant pocket, stashing the photo in his closed computer. He wouldn’t ever forget her, she was the best thing that had ever happened to him, nothing would ever be the same anymore. Was it really worth living, worth living knowing she had died? He had to, because he owed it to MC, that is what she would have wanted. Bitterness and sorrow stole into the hacker’s heart as he disappeared into the shadow of the night, backpack upon his shoulders, MC was dead, and so was he.
Hey lovelies! ;) I'm sorry this one is so sad and angsty, but I feel like we really needed this. I hope despite the sadness, you can comment and like this oneshot. I love to hear from all of you, thank you! Love you. :) :(

do it. give us the headcanons
ALRIGJT UHHHH here’s this hell piece
So in short, I have two names from him: Aaron, or Gavin. We’ll call him Aaron for now.
Gavin is the one that stuck the longest with me when I first created my OC version of him, but gradually switched to Aaron over time.
So with that out of the way, let’s begin the headcanon list.
Aaron’s natural eye color is a very dark gray to me. It makes him look like one of those “emotionless” Gacha mini movie characters.
Of course we can’t forget the autism headcanon right off the bat! I didn’t know whether to do it at first because I have a LOT of autism headcanons for a LOT of characters, but then my brain said “SCREW IT!! EMBRACE THE NEURODIVERGENCE!!”
He’s also transmasc and bisexual, because why not? /pos
Aaron actually used to be really extroverted, but due to some traumatizing events that went down in IRIS, he completely shut down. Think of it as…a terrible occurrence :)
Ok now for the reason his eyes are dark gray. See, Aaron has this anomaly that manifests itself as a blue Chinese traditional dragon, but without the whiskers and back legs. Aaron decided to name this dragon Glitter. (See JCU OC post for more details.)
Whenever Aaron uses a power that’s given to him by Glitter, his eyes go from gray to a sharp neon/sky blue. Along with this, Glitter has also given him an ability called a “Blueshock.” This power allows him to basically probe people’s minds for info, while also giving them excruciating hallucinations and flashbacks. (Get it? This is the power he used on Chase in AF:CB)
Seeing that Aaron was absolutely miserable because of what happened to him, Glitter was like “ok, that prisoner can’t see you in this pathetic state, I’m gonna take over your body so we can make progress with him, ok?”
That’s why I headcanon that Glitter was actually the one talking to Chase in AF:CB instead of the actual Professor.
Anyways back to other stuff!
Aaron is best friends with two scientists named Eli (one with glasses) and Jasper (black hair girl)
Ever since he got saved by Stronghold Z (another JCU OC thing), he’s been trying to heal from what happened, and also try to make amends with…someone. It’s a long and difficult road, however. But somewhere inside of him, Aaron knows he’ll pull through.
Aaron got his left eye ripped out in the incident, so now he wears an eyepatch there. He also has a lot of cut scars from it as well
He was INCREDIBLY sleep deprived and overworked, to the point where people in IRIS would question how he was even able to keep his sanity. (Here’s the short answer: he didn’t)
I’m pretty sure that’s it. If I think of more for him I’ll place it here, but yeah, those are my crappy headcanons for the professor/dr. Hanson

My Thoughts on Lilly Donfort and the Donfort Sister Dynamic
A/N: So hello there! I have been busy because I have been at a new job and just I hit a bout of writer's block so as a way to combat that, I have decided to write a little ditty that honestly is more like a rant that turned into an essay about what I find fascinating. This was meant to start out as a short think but ended up becoming a sort of mini-essay so I hope you like it and just as a warning this is completely unedited! and I promise I am working on my other duskwood fic!
I love Jessy Hawkins. She is my beloved and I would die for her, but recently I have noticed that I love writing for Lilly because to me she is such an interesting character and I am not afraid to admit that she is one of my favorites. It is really fun to dive into her thought process and moral code because it seems like it is varied about what she deems as right and how she goes about achieving her goal. The biggest constant is the fact that she is willing to go to the ends of the earth for the ones she loves and when she gets an idea of how to get there, she will stick to it until staying on that path is physically impossible. She is just very stubborn and independent in a way that is very intriguing, especially taking into account her dynamic as the youngest of the group and as a younger sibling, not only in general but as a younger sibling to Hannah in particular.
I think that exploring her as a younger sibling to Hannah is different than exploring her just as a younger sibling because of who Hannah is and how she is perceived by others around her. I personally view Hannah as a very flawed character, which honestly makes her feel more real. I don't think she is a good person, I think she is someone who is trying to make everyone think that she is and mostly succeeded in that feat. From what we get from the material is that Hannah is exceptionally good at hiding things from others, emotions or situations. Even when she started acting weird, Thomas was one of the only ones to truly notice and that was because it made a direct impact on the relationship between the two and he tends to keep Hannah as a focal point in his thought process. This is very important to fully understand the dynamics of the Donfort siblings and their dynamics with others because Hannah is very much perceived as the golden child. From multiple people, we learn about how kind and caring Hannah is, and we get mostly positive accounts. However it can be said that there is a bias due to the fact that she is missing and thought to be dead, so people are playing into the idea that they shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but even then, it's still apparent that Hannah is perceived as someone who is fundamentally good and is perfect in a sense. In reality, that is not the case. The whole Jennifer Hanson situation serves as solid evidence that she is far from this picture-perfect person. The incident happened when she was young and obviously she has grown as a person so to use the fact that it happened as a way to point a finger and say she is an awful person who cannot be redeemed isn't fair, especially because she isn't a completely awful person. However, character growth doesn't absolve her of guilt, erase the fact that it happened, nor automatically make her a good person in the way that she is perceived. From the moment the accident happened all the way up to her subsequent kidnapping, Hannah was determined to make sure that no one knew about what happened as a way to keep herself safe and didn't take into account how others were affected.
Hannah is perceived as the town's golden girl and as her little sister, which not only puts a lot of pressure on Lilly but also causes her to have to live in her shadow. Obviously, she loves Hannah and would do anything for her, but that doesn't mean that there isn't at least some sort of animosity there. This very much factors into Lilly's strive for independence and how stubborn she can be. She does a lot of things on her own and doesn't seem to always ask for much input and seems to be a bit more isolated from the others, which of course could be from the situation they are dealing with, but also seems to be more normalized in the group. This independence could be a way for her to be signaling that she is just as competent as her sister or could've been a habit from when she was younger from having to fend for herself or being constantly underestimated and undermined due to Hannah being her older sister and everyone expecting her to be just like her. She seems to take the phrase "If you want something done right, then do it yourself" because time and time again she tries to do what she thinks is right and ends up having to do it herself. She follows all the rules until the rules nip her in the bud. The situation in the cabin with the gun is very telling of this. She knew that there was someone who wanted to hurt her and her friends, so she took matters into her own hands and found a way to protect herself without telling anyone. In a sense, I think she is very similar to Hannah in that way, they will take matters into their own hands when safety is threatened. The fundamental difference between the two is that Lilly doesn't pretend that what she did was perfect and when faced with the consequences of her actions she apologizes and then does something to fix it. A perfect example of this is the video and the following #IAmJake movement. At first, she wasn't sorry about what she did, defending herself by saying things along the lines of she had no choice but to take matters into her own hands because no one else was doing anything and that it may not have been the best choice but she stands by what she did. However, when she learns that she is wrong and finds out about Jake being her family, not only does she verbally apologize and understands that she will not be easily forgiven, she takes steps to prove that she meant what she said and tries to fix the situation. In addition, she doesn't even want to take the credit for it because she feels that she has already done enough, which is very commendable and tells a lot of her character and is very much someone who knows how to deal with the consequences of her actions and admit when she is wrong even if it takes a good amount pushing to get her there.
I also think her strive to do things by herself while still playing by the rules that she made is a way for her to prove her validity in the friend group. In many friend groups there seem to be friends that are closer to each other and there are subsections of the friend group. Thomas, Hannah, and Cleo feel like their own group that Lilly sometimes is a part of, then there is Jessy, Richy, and sometimes Dan, and I feel like Dan and Lilly are really close, even joining the group of Jessy, Richy, and Dan. Lilly comes off as the youngest of the friend group and feels disconnected in a sense that the others don't. While it could be the format and premise of the game, they feel like Hannah's friends, rather than Lilly's. It feels like Lilly should have another main friend group, but she doesn't. The fact that she is younger creates a bit of a wedge too. She very much has the vibes of an older sibling at certain moments and I think that is because she is trying to seem more responsible as a way to make it feel like she is the same age as the rest of them, even if it is not successful. This independence also comes across as more of a necessity, she is much shyer and puts on a prickly exterior, which she could've developed from previous friendships leading to a falling out, which wouldn't surprise me based on the speculations earlier about Lilly not being in her main friend group. It also plays into how she reacts to her wrongdoings because she knows how to make amends after making a mistake which she could've learned from a personal past experience which could make it harder to make new friendships because those situations are extremely painful and can make it harder to trust people and/or yourself. The person in the group that she seems to be closest to is Dan, someone who also seems to be a bit more on the outskirts of the group and who I have always perceived as the oldest. We learn that the two of them have known each other for a while and seemed to always look out for one another when needed. Dan and Lilly also seem to be very similar in how they interact with people as well, they both have a tough exterior that is hard to crack, but once you do, they are fiercely protective. These similarities could've been a product of growing up together and growing to share aspects of each other's personalities because they seemed to be around each other a lot. It wouldn't be a surprise if it was Dan was a big component of Lilly becoming a main fixture of the group, rather than Hannah herself.
The Donfort sisters seem to be close but I don't think they get along as well as they would like to portray. As someone with a sibling that is four years younger, I can attest to the fact that we fight like cats and dogs. While not all siblings fight and there is a difference in the dynamics, at times Lilly and Hannah's relationship seems too perfect like there is something to hide. I personally think that they seem like they would argue and fight a lot but tend to not tell the others as a way to keep the peace, which factors into the idea that Hannah is very good at projecting the fact that she is a good person. Personally, I don't think Hannah is a good person, but I also don't think she is a bad one either. I think she is a person who is trying, but ultimately letting herself get in the way of that. She is a flawed person who is trying to erase the fact that she is not perfect through surface-level means instead of addressing the crux of her issues, which allows for the more negative parts of her personality to take over when faced with difficult situations. I get the feeling that Lilly knows this, even if she doesn't realize it or wants to admit because Hannah is someone she has wanted to be like for her whole life because of constant comparisons, and the situation with the Man Without A Face has opened her eyes to something she has known all along and something she has possibly resented Hannah for subconsciously. It also could be why she accepted Jake so readily and immediately saw him as an older brother figure because it is someone else who isn't perceived as perfect, but as just another human trying their best.
Lilly is someone who seems very lonely, even though she is surrounded by people. It's why she has a presence online and why she can be very standoffish at first. I think her relationship with Hannah as well as what we have seen in her friendships has affected how she goes about her ideas and how she interacts with others. She is a fascinating character who is neither good nor bad but is honestly trying her best when put in a situation in which she is constantly in the shadow of someone who she knows is flawed but won't admit it. She is a fascinating character who has very nuanced morals and connections to the other characters that are never fully explored, which makes speculation that much more intriguing and honestly makes Lilly one of my favorite characters even though not many people seem to like her.

The way Arin Hanson just assumes any given game autosaves unless told otherwise is so unrelatable to me.
He’s like “It’s 2022. What game is still requiring you to save in 2022?” And I’m like “Most of them? I can’t be that out of touch, can I?”
Rewatching his dead rising playthrough right now and he does it twice. First starting the game, then shutting it down assuming it’s saved. Then again later, after the initial incident, he assumes that it must at least automatically save after boss battles, right?
No, dude. Maybe I’m not the most up to the minute gamer anymore but homeboy, that was 2006, I know for a fact saving was still the norm in 2006.

I can only hope that a future 9/11 televised/cinematic retelling doesn't do what the 1996 Titanic miniseries did to Loraine Allison - only doing it to Dana Falkenberg or Christine Lee Hanson *shudders*. Remembering the Children of 9/11: Meet The 8 Kids Who Were Killed On 9/11/ 2001 (foreverymom.com)
half of me thinks the yanks wouldn't allow a dramatised 9/11 series like that to exist because of the weird reverence they hold for it, but on the other hand considering how public opinion has changed regarding the incident I could see it being trotted out for propaganda purposes in a few years' time and it would absolutely not do much justice to anyone not considered glamorous enough
