Why are you such a big Lyria “simp” while also being a Darrow fan? Lyria was always rude to Darrow and somehow nice to other Golds. The only time she was nice to Darrow was at the end of Light bringer, and just because Cassius died.

First of all, I don't need other characters to love Darrow so I can like them in exchange. It's sweet if they do, but I won't cry a river if they don't.

I know some 'stans' get really nasty towards characters that are mean to their faves. I have seen it first hand and it's really pathetic. My advice is to stop being weak. Your argument is disturbing; by this logic you cannot like the Howlers AND Cassius, because they were not nice to Cassius.

Second of all, you think Darrow actually cares when people are rude towards him? He knows who he is, he can take from the noise what is useful and move on from what is not. He has been villified, betrayed and spat on and he took it with grace. He respects Lyria's courage, loyalty and determination. He does not need her to like him at all. He just need her to understand and follow orders, which she did and then some.

Third of all, Lyria was interesting and likable way before she met Darrow or Cassius. Her relationships with the main cast aside, she is bringing her own thing to the story and that spark is actually crucial to the tetralogy.

Finally, even your definition of niceness is askewed. All she did to Darrow was to correct him about a version of events he was not privy to. That is all. She never went out of her way to know him, because he warned her not to stay in his way. Cassius and Aurae were the only ones open towards her, so she stood closer to them. How was she not nice to Darrow? How was she rude?

Even if she wasn't nice or if she openly disliked Darrow, I wouldn't hold that against her, not all of us have good taste. She's still compelling and interesting to follow.

This ask right here sounds a lot like some Virginia haters do, but somehow worse because they try to make a pity party for Darrow 'I would rather die than get sympathy' O'Lykos. And for rudeness? These takes may work with lesser characters and their fandoms, but Darrow? Oh, please. No memeber of the Church of Red God is allowed to be this ridiculous.

Oh damn, that's difficult, it's been years since I touched canon. I watched thh semi-spoiled, knowing a few of the deaths because of seeing them in the AMVs, sdr2 mostly blank, but hyped up for komahina and ndrv3 fully spoiled, as much as one can be spoiled, immersed in the fandom and every scrap I could learn before getting to watch a full let's play, so of course that affected my opinions, and then they got shaped in the river of seeing people's takes and rewrites.

SDR2 ch4 has got to be up there, if it were top 3 trials that made me actually cry sdr2 would take the whole cake, but this and also their ch2 are some of the most memorable and emotional for me, so yeah. It's just that as a murder case ch2 went with classics and ch4 went with whimsy and shit I would have never thought of, so it's the first one that comes to mind, my number one.

For my sanity, I am disqualifying ch5 of sdr2, it was a lot of things and I don't think I can consider it the same as other investigations and trials, the key elements were really left to luck and the only way to get out of a stalemate was to choose to believe that Komaeda got the luck he wanted, so it just. It wasn't a murder mystery case anymore. It was a terrorist attack and then continued psychic warfare from beyond the grave. It doesn't count.

And v3 had a good ch5 until nearly the end, but as a hater, the ending of the trial ruins it for me. It had to be this way, and it makes things more tragic (good), but I am going to stay mad about how Kaito went out. I hate that he got what he wanted and Kokichi was brushed off.

So the other two spots have to be thh ch5 and v3 ch4, and I am listing them together because I haven't been the same since the parallels between naegiri and ougoku(platonicplatonicplatonic) canon dynamics have been pointed out to me. What if you had a friend shaped guy who trusts you, but you sacrificed him because the goal justifies the means and you need to end the killing game. And they both come with a delicious side of relationship drama, great potential for shippy angst. Like, in v3 first ouruma has "Honey" by Kesha moment, then saiou has their "gays having bad breakups without even dating" moment, and then (and not without Kokichi's meddling) Kaito decides that Friendship Ended with Saihara, coughing up blood is my new best friend. In thh the gamigiri of naegamigiri are fighting, being the main people throwing accusations, there's the doubt, the betrayal, the unidentified body (you love to see that) and the unexpected good ending, it's great.

I’m telling y’all now, I am a Penelope Featherington hater. Don’t hit me with that I’m fatphobic shit cuz it’s the fact that she’s a bad person who is actively ruining lives. Marina could’ve been happy with Colin and she did what she thought she had to for herself and her child (now children). Kate got dog piled by everyone her entire life for her heritage and “not having the right status”. Eloise is literally her best friend and, for her faults, was never actively malicious towards Penelope. Yet a bitch was out here saying fuck y’all lemme just expose all the things you wanna hide cuz my family ain’t shit and I just want homeboy to notice me after decades. Disrespectfully, fuck you. Also my ass hasn’t forgiven Daphne for assaulting Simon so again this hatred is equal opportunity.

The worst part is that I genuinely could’ve liked Penelope. I love a good villain arc for a mistreated character. I’m usually all for turning on the people who wronged you, but that’s not what she’s doing. If homegirl had been like just sharing petty gossip or doing a Regency what not to wear and then progressively escalated, then I would be on her side. However, that progression would also have to coincide with two things, a demand from her audience and her personal life tanking. If the audience starts getting bored of her content then Penelope would want to find something to regain their interest and that could be her slowly getting into the realm of more salacious gossip. Heck it could’ve even been a direct consequence of Daphne and Violet spreading the information about Nigel Berbrooke. Penelope wanted to help the Bridgertons and created a beast that she could not control (if we were going for more sympathy). As for the personal life, she has even more motivation to throw herself into Lady Whistledown if that all goes to hell organically. LW would be her only source of validation and her only refuge from the reality where she is undesirable and unwanted by everyone.

I don’t know how easy it would be to translate that to screen and there’s all kinds of constraints, but the writers cannot have their cake and eat it too. There comes a point where a sympathetic villain (because she is the main villain of the series) is no longer sympathetic, and THATS OKAY. That point is different for every viewer, however, most can agree that at some point the person crossed the line from downtrodden underdog to villain. My issue with Penelope is that she basically started the series in villain territory. It would be one thing if the series peeled back the layers of why BEFORE having her ruin lives, thus greying the territory. They didn’t though, they had her literally endanger the ONLY young black woman on the show and then said “oh but she’s insecure 🥺🥺🥺”. Cry me a river, build me a bridge, and do a running somersault off of it.

I'm going to be honest, I thought about just deleting this because I feel like I have already made it clear that I am a huge supporter of creators and that means I frequently reblog art, amvs, fics, meta and posts that come across my dash without doing a deep dive into their creator's entire life story. I don't have it in me to do a background check and ask for references every time I see a pretty Samweena drawing.

So, it’s fine to be like: Hey, River, I know you aren't a TERF and that person you reblogged has said some hateful things so you may want to block them. Or yo, River, you reblogged something offensive wtf did you not see the part about x, y, z (because that would be on me).

As for this particular person, I have zero familiarity with her. I don't follow her. As far as I know, this was our sole interaction. And a glance at her blog tells me nothing about whether what you said is accurate. What I do find interesting is that you send me something anonymous about how you aren't a big fan of Misha. Might I gently recommend this may not be the blog to follow for you (and no hard feelings if that's the case). I AM a big fan of Misha. I have paid hard earned dollars for meet and greets, pictures and cons to see him. He has been supportive of me when we have interacted and I admire his many good works, his outspoken advocacy and his kindness.

When I was newly out to more than my inner circle, I got a video meet and greet with him talking about how Cas had been part of the sequence of events leading to me coming out at work and getting to do advocacy work. His support meant the world to me and I can still barely watch the video without crying.

So I reblog a lot of Misha and even more Cas (thee blorbo to end all blorbos for me). If that's not your jam, I truly won't hold it against you if you unfollow me. You can and should cultivate your tumblr experience for your own happiness.

Just sitting at work disassociating stewing in the void that is my own depression yeah I'm not even gona try to pretend this isn't bts related, it's actually so pathetic how they always put me in this mood and I can't even put into words why exactly that is. A big part of it is that I'm reminded of all the easy friends I could have had if I'd just been less of a hater, how nice having a community is and how nice being able to talk to people about your interests is, but that train of thought quickly spirals into no actually the last time I tried that it sucked and people all suck and I can't hold onto any friendship for longer than 6 months so fuck me I guess. The Ledge #569: Jeremy Porter's Teenage Kicks

When I conceived the “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks” project late last year one of the first things I did was to contact artists that I considered friends of the show. I’ve been blessed over the years to have some wonderful musicians regularly send me their latest projects.

One of those friends was Jeremy Porter, leader of Jeremy Porter & The Tucos. For almost the entire time I’ve been producing The Ledge, Porter has provided me with fabulous music, and has also introduced my show to many of his fellow musician friends. 

It was honestly no surprise when Porter responded that he was indeed interested in contributing a version of “Teenage Kicks”, but I was blown away by his overall plans with the tune. Tonight’s episode is the world premiere of his cover, which will be officially released next Friday (5/26) on his bandcamp page. While the track will be a “name your price”, proceeds from those who do the right thing and pay for the track will go to the Detroit-based charity, Hater Kitty Army, led by Sue Summers. “Hater Kitty Rescue Army is a neighborhood cat haven on Detroit's Eastside," Summers explains. "We have been serving abandoned cats for the past nine years by providing food, shelter, spay and neutering, and re-homing the ones we can.”

What is especially gratifying about this project is that Summers is not only a friend of Porter’s but a huge fan of The Undertones! “(They) were one of the first punk bands I saw in concert, at a tiny neighborhood theater that hosted all ages shows," Summers recently recalled. "The song 'Teenage Kicks' has always been a favorite teenage anthem of mine and still remains timeless.”

Besides Porter’s fabulous cover, tonight’s show is a hodgepodge of new and old favorites. Included is a tribute of sorts to Big Stir Records, as earlier this week they had a big announcement of six new signing to their label. It seems like a pretty obvious idea to devote a set to these artists, which include Graham Parker, The Spongetones, The Cyrkle, Flashcubes, Arthur, Alexander, and Sparkle*Jets UK. 

Sprinkled throughout the show are some of the other submitted versions of “Teenage Kicks” to remind everybody that I’m always looking for new covers. If you are a musician, or have any contact with artists that could record their own take on the classic, please contact me!

A FULL PLANET OF LIBRARY - now that would be a dream. Especially if I could just teleport people out when they annoy me.

Remarque : the Doctor says "spoilers" first. Just, little funny things you notice when you're rewatching for the 20th time.

"If you want to live, count the shadows." - line that should be as often quoted as "don't blink".

RIVEEEEEEEER - hello Space Hair! I love River so much. Note to River haters, Moffat haters and RTD fangirls : River, arguably one of the most intriguing and exciting characters of New who, was introduced by Moffat, during the RTD era. Do what you want with that.

"I lied, I'm always lying." - rule number one : the Doctor always lies. Seems like River picks up the Doctor's rules as her own.

"Bet your life?" "Always" - LISTEN. In this episode? That line? UNCALLED FOR. That's really mean.

"Almost every species in the universe has an irrational fear of the dark. But they're wrong. It's not irrational. It's Vashta Nerada." - lines that really explain why the whole show is known for having audience dive behind their couch. That is properly creepy, Doctor.

CRASH OF THE BYZANTIUM. River references the Byzantium as early as s4!!! I had forgotten that! Moffat really had everything lined up from the start. Man, I love his writing.

The pain on River's face when the Doctor says he doesn't know who she is... I need a tissue.

River not knowing Donna... Hurts. Donna deserves better. Donna needs to come back. Come on, Flux + new RTD era? We can totally bring her back, rewrite her ending!

Squareness gun - Jack has one in s12 - those little easter eggs you would hardly notice if you were a normal person. Luckily I am not a normal person.

"And then you remembered" - Doctor Moon is really creepy. That whole dream world, with time just jumping around, gives me the heebie jeebies.

Ooow, Lee. Sad. Donna makes me sad.

"Gorgeous and can't speak a word." - and later on when she says "what does that say about me" and then you just want to cry because Donna just wanted to be loved. She wanted someone to love her completely and unconditionally and she thought she didn't deserve it, she thought she was unlovable. And yet she was absolutely fantastic, just brilliant.

River's pain turning to anger : "He hasn't met me yet". River's arc is so sad.

Ooh, oof, hints of Rose's theme when she tells him his name. Paiiiiin. By the way, the music in series 4 is so totally different from the music in series 7 (the latest episodes I've seen before were series 7, hence the comparison), and yet it's still Murray Gold. In these two episodes, the score is basically omnipresent. It goes along with each scene, the rhythm changes with, well, the shadows and the scares, it underlines each lines. In series 7, the music is softer. Less big scores, more actual themes, as in leitmotiv. You know sometimes I wish I had studied music from a young age so I could be able to actually study movies and tv shows soundtracks more accurately.

"We did not come here. We come from here. We hatched here. These are our forests." - alright, when you start to consider it from the Vashta Nerada's perspective, they're actually victims too. Their trees were cut down and mashed and turned into paper with them still eggs, still unhatched spores, they didn't even have a chance to live before they were brought to the library, and then they were stuck with no food for a century. I mean. I'm not taking their side. But hey, maybe let's not cut down forests indiscriminately and destroy whole ecosystems, maybe? Oh, look, an environmental perspective in a Doctor Who episode. How novel.

"You know when you see a photographer of someone you know, but it's from years before you knew them? It's like they're not quite finished; they're not done yet. Well, yes, the Doctor's here. He came when I called just like he always does, but not my Doctor. Now my Doctor... I've seen whole armies turn and run away, and he'd just swagger off back to his Tardis and open the doors with a snap of his fingers. The Doctor in the Tardis, next stop everywhere." - in terms of epic, badass quotes, that's a winner there. But it's also a very good portrayal of the Doctor's character arc. The Doctor is constantly growing and evolving and changing what being the Doctor means. The Doctor for one person is not the Doctor for another. Who the Doctor is is not set in stone. What the Doctor stands for is consistent : "never cruel, never cowardly", always kind, everybody lives. But how the Doctor becomes the Doctor is a constant journey. A journey that is especially obvious after each regeneration.

"I am the Doctor." "Yeah, some day." - he is the Doctor now for Donna, but he is not the Doctor for River.

"I have the two qualities you require to see absolute truth. I am brilliant, and unloved." - Miss Evangelista belongs on the list of one-time Doctor Who characters who 1, deserved better, and 2, are really deeper than at first glance. Also I do believe that her being transferred to the data core isn't what changed her IQ. I'm pretty sure while still alive she was smart, but because she was told all her life that she was stupid, she ended up believing it right to her core, and dying and being saved into the library just got rid of her self-inhibitions.

"Don't play games with me. You just killed someone I liked. That is not a safe place to stand. I'm the Doctor and you're in the biggest library in the universe. Look me up." - most of the time I forget that Tennant played crazy Barty Crouch Jr, and then Ten starts twisting his face and gets angry and scary and I remember. Ten is dark. I mean, all the Doctors have their dark side. But Ten's dark side is a thing of beauty.

Anyway. That's a really great two-parter.

1 – Cheese

BEFORE: Ohh the guitar riff. I am WEAK for guitar in this one. Probably a song I’d play waiting for the traffic light to go green. It has nice, somehow fun beat. But, we definitely could have survived without them naming types of cheese.

AFTER: Heh. A real fuck you in not romantic way.

FINAL: I appreciate the entire idea behind the song. Tho, we still could’ve survived without types of cheese.

2 – Thunderous

BEFORE: Idk why, but beginning reminds me of Rhythm Ta. Yes Changbineeeeeeey take it away.

Did I hear it right? "I’m not sorry, I’m dirty." Babes, are we okay?

Ah yes, Aussie line being more Aussie with each passing day. OMG THAT LAUGH AT 2:03 YES.

Oh I def heard it right, I’m not sorry I’m dirty. Cool, cool, ok. The rapapapam bought me, seriously.

It has very Kingdom!Ateez sound to it which isn’t a bad thing at all, I’m a sucker for Kingdom!Ateez. But… I don’t know, I miss either more intense build-up or beat drop. That would, like, totally kill me and pay for my burial.

AFTER: Oh. Changbin’s part is really, really good. Okay, okay, seriously props to whoever wrote the lyrics. But we really could’ve survived without I’m not sorry, I’m dirty.

Kkundeuri wasseoyo and Gyerani wasseoyo need to have a collab if you know what I mean hehe 😉

FINAL: I feel like my precious I.N had so much fun in this one, so I give bonus points. The song is good, the lyrics are bomb, but the sound lacks intensity. I wish they went with a bit harsher tone, the song would be absolute bomb slap then. All in all, I like it.

3 – Domino

BEFORE: GOING IN STRONG YES. Yeah, goodbye brain, I’ll be going around singing Domino, domino, DOMINO. Yo, that stop and then intense rap at approximately 1:15 is very nice touch.

Don’t kill me, but in my very humble opinion, Chan’s parts feel a bit out of place in the song.

Oh… I don’t like the pace change starting at 2:40…

AFTER: Ah, yet another fuck you, I’ll succeed no matter what you say song.

FINAL: Kinda have a feeling it might grow on me after a few days, but right now… Hm. I don’t know. Maybe one of those songs which need to marinate and which might slap after I come back to them randomly.

4 – Ssick

BEFORE: Oh, the beginning gives me Ikon vibes, yes please. Okay, okay, this drop at 0:50 is really good, I like it very much.

This song has nice transitions and per se, variety, that maybe previous songs lack. For now, my favourite song. It is repetitive, just like the previous ones, and that’s not a bad thing, but I think this one has the best mix of repetitive and filled with variety in beat.

AFTER: 3rd fuck you haters song? I mean sure, fuck haters, but isn’t dedicating 3 songs to them giving them a bit too much attention? This one isn’t just about fuck you tho, it’s also about being there for your friends and I like that aspect. It’s like fuck you to haters and i wuw you to friends and supporters.

Also very, very, very important and positive part of the lyrics is “Oh yeah, I know that I don’t have anything special. But, yeah, do you know that I myself am special?” This, boys, girls, rocks and flowers, this is very valuable lesson. You don’t have to own something special because you are special by just being. Don’t belittle yourself. Even skz is telling you that.

FINAL: From all the fuck you songs this is probably my favorite.

5 – The View

BEFORE: Awww very summery song, very sweet since the beginning. OH SHIT I AM CRYING WTF?

Fuck, this reminds me of a feeling, if you get me, but I don’t know which one? I like it. I LIKE IT SO MUCH. YES. BRING IT ON. BRING ON THE TEARS YES. (i am probably the only person being excited to cry but that says a lot about me sush please).

This is one of the songs I’d LOVE to randomly hear on the radio. Just driving to the beach, vibing you know.

And getting attacked by sudden rap and beat change because why tf not, you know?

AFTER: “Clouds like a submarine swim” I told you, summer vibes.

Ah, fuck. Here, it’s this why I cried. I sensed something in the way they delivered this part of the song and it was this: “The road in front of me seemed dark ‘cause i never ever let it go. Now I feel comfortable, I like it, this feeling and I’ll never ever let it go.” Not to be someone who’ll be like Aha! This is the meaning behind this! but to me this reminds me a lot of feeling stuck with bad self-image, both mentally and physically, and because I said this is like a summer song, my brain immediately goes to all those summers I hated my body and this one being the first summer ever that I didn’t actively hate myself. This part of lyrics is for me like finally breaking out of the shell or maybe a better expression, shedding old skin and just leaving it behind, going forward with new, more positive mentality and a sense of liberation.

“I like the view right now” is like 1) i literally like the view (sunset on beach type of vibe), 2) i like looking at you/myself and realising you’re feeling comfortable around me/yourself/myself, and/or 3) i like this new view on life I have.

Look, I could literally quote entire song and give in depth analysis of on what level they resonate with me, but I won’t do that. I’ll just say these are one of the best lyrics I’ve ever read and they’re so well combined with music ughhh. And the fact this song came at the right time in my life *insert chef’s kiss*

FINAL: I love it. It was really good before I read lyrics and after it’s like three times better. One of my faves on the album.

6 – Sorry, I love you

BEFORE: Nothing special for except for the slight angsty tones I hear. I like it, but nothing crazy. I’d like it to pop up on my playlist occasionally. I think it would be an absolute BOP for me if it was leaning more to the rock genre. Like, a bit slowed down with accent just on guitar and their voices. But, that’s just me always being a sucker for rock ballads. For some reason to me, best ballads and most songs which evoke strong emotion from me are the ones which accentuate the words, the voice and one instrument.

AFTER: Very convinced this song is written by the one who is watching Nevertheless (is it Seungmin? or someone else?). My roommate strongly disagrees with that, but look, I don’t make rules, I think, I say.

FINAL: I hate to admit it but it’s catchy. I’d love live band version of this ngl.

7 – Silent Cry

BEFORE: Interesting intro huh. But something doesn’t sit with me right with the rest of the song. I don’t know what. I really don’t.

AFTER: Yeah sure, hit me with depresso lyrics right in the beginning.

FUCK. The lyrics are really killing me.

FINAL: I just can’t suffer through music. Lyrics are amazing, but idk, music is so not my style and somehow don���t suit the lyrics.

8 – Secret Secret

BEFORE: WAIT WHY DO I HAVE EMOTIONS ALREADY IT’S ONLY BEEN LIKE 10 SECONDS INTO THE SONG. Fuck. I’m on the verge of tears. Imagine listening to this and then Ex I would straight up have emotional breakdown. Yeah, yeah, I’m crying. Leave me alone. The softness, the preciousness, the cuteness, ugh I am broken™.

AFTER: Yeah, fuck. I’m crying again.The lyrics are killing me.

FINAL: This song makes me very emotional, I am a literal mess right now. Kill me, resurrect me, kill me again.

9 – Star Lost

Not my type of song. Like, nothing’s wrong, it’s just so not my type.

10 – Red Lights

BEFORE: Well, the beat drop for sure slaps. The song reminds me of something, it’s either a movie or a song, but I can’t remember. And that’s not a bad thing, I just hate the fact I can’t remember what it reminds me of.

AFTER: “I’m staying up all night again.” I see what you did there, tsch.

“Now tell me you hate me I can’t stand you any longer. But I know, you and me, there’s nothing I can do.” this is very good. I like this.

FINAL: This song could be about so many things. Lust, control problems, feeling of losing yourself, not knowing what your stage personality is and what is real you, anxiety, insomnia, depression… The thing they really managed to do is achieving a level of intensity. I like the song more after I read the lyrics, but I have to say I thought it would be much, much more intense and in your face. I’ll let it crawl in my mind and heart. Slowly. Hehe.

11 – Surfin’

BEFORE: I’m not a fan of summer. Or summer songs. But this is good. Wtf. Something’s going on with me lol. I have nothing much to say, I like the song, that’s it hahah.

AFTER: Felix talking about working 24/7 isn’t something I thought I’d hear in such a summery song.

“My head is overheated just like my laptop.” yo Changbin, mood.

FINAL: I hate summer songs, but this one slaps. This is the only summer song I’ll ever love and accept. Absolute bop.

12 – Gone Away

BEFORE: Oh the beginning surely is something. Oh no, no, no, no, no, I’ll cry again. Oh no. I’m dead. Fuck. I’m crying without lyrics, what’s going to happen after I listen with lyrics? Fuck man.

OH SHIT WHAT WAS THIS AT 3:00? THEY’RE PULLING OFF SOME MAYFLY SINGING UNIT THING I AM LITERALLY DEAD HERE. My. Jesus.
