the first in an old series of unfinished fan art pieces - waterbender!Lance mid-fight in the pro-bending tournament!!

I really liked such a dynamic pose but I think I started nitpicking the finer details of it too much before getting into the color & background which killed my motivation to finish it -u-

#lance #vld #voltron legendary defender #lance mcclain #vld au #lok au #bending au #my art #honestly the pose on this is so complete that I might try and just finish out the piece??? #would anyone be interested in seeing that??? #if im remembering correctly I think part of my explanation/intent with the pose #was that lance was taking inspiration from other bending styles #to achieve something with almost more fire-bending-like qualities???? #because that's kind of the person he wanted to be in the beginning #the hot-headed fiery awesome sharpshooter that everybody adores #and then he wouldn't necessarily lose those techniques #but he'd find the strength in the more classical water bending styles #to fully realize them as he as a character grew to be more confident in himself #and in the qualities and strengths he already has #rather than always chasing after and trying to be someone else #but of course there are the qualities of the fire that he learned along the way #and those are meaningful too #and that's why he wouldn't necessarily lose all of the cool flashiness #that fire bending can offer #it's the whole 'immature version of thing in the beginning #becomes a stronger more well-realized thing as it matures'
