There's this game that lets you play through like. Human evolution from the perspective of early hominids and we've had it for a couple years now. It's a very hard game with next to no pointers or tutorials, you just gotta know how to turn these monkeys into humans through tool use and defensive strategy and migration and communication and needless to say I am hopelessly addicted to the monkeys

Tell me in the tags your comfort videogame(s); games where you open it to simply enjoy the atmosphere or the game otherwise grants you a lot of calm and comfort. I heavily encourage "weird" answers.

Quote
One of the hardest ideas for humans to accept is that we are not the culmination of anything. There is nothing inevitable about our being here. It is part of our vanity as humans that we tend to think of evolution as a process that, in effect, was programmed to produce us.

The deep aching sadness of knowing the creators of your favourite game WANT to make a sequel, but the game didn't sell enough for that to be possible, and knowing if they had made the 2nd idea first it would have sold better

Interesting Moments Not Saved (because I forgot to save the recordings):
#4: Accidentally finding the Butterfly Tree Oasis by falling into it (not realizing it was a in a pit) and just barely catching myself on the wall a few feet before the ground.
#5: Crossing the desert. I know you can set rest outside of an oasis, but I didn’t want to risk getting attacked. So I took the entire clan on a day long trek across the desert.
No food, no water, danger all around.
The elation I felt when I finally reached the ocean is indescribable.
#6: Reaching the Last Shelter Oasis. This was the last location I had to discover. Finally getting there and having all locations discovered was an incredible moment for me.

Ancestors the humankind odyssey map Ps4#
Important: All found meteorites - disposable. It is clear that finding them and the right to collect costs at least save time for a generational change. If we have 6 pups, the one with the meteorite will be 8 genetic fixations, two 10, three 12. Scoured the Internet, gone when the smoke of one of the meteorites didn't find anything similar.Įach found a meteorite (be sure to pick up small at the back!), gives +2 genetic fixation in one generation. Write comments, would complement and correct if somewhere nakosyachil. If anyone is interested in infa meteorites. When we get to play it, getting to witness that basic sense of awe amidst the struggle to survive will probably be the ultimate test of whether the game works or not.Guide to meteorites? (Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey) "You relive that moment on the screen and you feel like 'oh, somehow I've been there.'"ĭésilets' goals are lofty but worth exploring through Ancestors. He also hopes to show how similar we really are to our ancestors how we're not so much smarter than them as we suspect. A game that achieves this could make us feel small in awe of the natural world, not to mention all the work it took to gradually conquer it and bend it to our will. The core idea Désilets keeps returning to is that he wants us to empathize with the creatures we used to be. "You write all sorts of weird stories for yourself." I want you to have a little bit of creativity in your adventure," he said. As a baby primate in unfamiliar surroundings, you'll see phantoms all around and your viewpoint vignettes in fear.ĭésilets insists he doesn't want to tell players what to do in Ancestors. Without the right enzymes, you'll get sick eating an egg.
Ancestors the humankind odyssey map how to#
In Ancestors, you don't start the game knowing how to hold items in both hands. There is still, however, a HUD, and a skill tree of neurons which visualizes your evolution. What incentivizes you to move forward are depleting food supplies, the desire to explore and outrunning predators - the essentials of survival. There is an "intelligence" system that scans surroundings for landmarks, but your attention can also be gently redirected by, say, the rising smoke from a crashed meteor. There's no mini-map ("It's not about going from a little dot to another little dot," says Désilets) and no inventory (you hold what you have in two hands, or a member of your clan holds it for you). The desperate battle to avoid extinction is not necessarily conducive to flights of fancy.Īncestors tries to have a light touch. The challenge is trying to create the kind of jungle sandbox that encourages player exploration, while still placing them in a realistically unforgiving environment.

Out on August 27th on PC (with PS4 and Xbox One following in December), it's a third-person action-adventure game with plenty of tree climbing, but it's also a survival game. Ancestors represents the first title from the 35-person studio he co-founded in 2014, Panache Digital Games. Not now Turn on Turned on Turn onĭésilets led the Assassin's Creed games as well as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time before an acrimonious split from Ubisoft. I love the game Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey and I'm a fool and a bastard so I like the game for all the reasons other people hate it.
People hate how little the game tells you what you're supposed to be doing but I didn't really have an issue with it. I'm not sure if it's possible to play the game with no HUD so that option might be a little dumb (I'm gonna try it someday anyway). I liked figuring things out on my own. It felt so gratifying to try to alter something and hear that little sound that means you're doing it right and about to make something new. Keeping the other clan members alive and breeding came naturally to me. It just makes sense to breed and make sure future lineages have genetic diversity in the Game About Evolution.
I guess maybe other people struggle because of a lack of baseline knowledge. I'm just speculating here, considering all of the time I've spent watching other people play, but other people seem to struggle and not like the game because they lack the knowledge of something I've always known in some aspect. People will spend days in the game looking for fruit because apes eat fruit, and humans eat fruit, so I should look for fruit right? Also meat, apes need meat, right? I never struggled in the beginning like that because I know apes primarily eat fibrous things like leaves and ferns. Also, I should probably just shove everything in my mouth to find out its status effect anyway. Not to mention my lineage needs exposure if they're going to be able to digest anything besides fruit and fiber. The game didn't really tell me that, I just assumed and ended up being right. There are so many other situations like that. Drink water when you're hot. Certain kinds of food can keep you warm. Crack open eggs and cocos to eat the inside.
WolfQuest seems to have the same issue for some people. I saw a person struggle to understand how communication worked in the game because they assumed all wolves just communicated by howling?
Idk this isn't really a soapbox post and more of just a "sharing my thoughts" post. I could honestly write a whole essay on the weird ways people approach nature-centric games.

SPOILER for obvious reasons. reminder for anyone who started HSR without getting into HI3 and APHO (a post-honkai odyssey) lore, honkai star rail occurs after the year 2029 CE (in HI3 there's a previous era which ended after the Herrcher of the End/Finality destroyed almost all of humankind, so this is 2029 years after), meaning that Welt is 80+ years old.
Yes, same Welt, he's referred to as the "Anti-Entropy Soverign, he's not an expy like Himeko is. (fun fact- there are 4 Himekos in all of Hoyoverse, and Star Rail Himeko was actually already shown way before Star Rail in alien space manga, but i digress.)
Link to the manga for some context about the second eruption and first herrscher of the void. Read at your own risk and only if you don't mind spoiling HI3 lore.
He is in surprisingly good shape and looks young for 80 because had to reconstruct his body using the Herrscher of Reason's power of creation after his physical form was destroyed during the second honkai eruption, leaving only his consciousness alive inside the herrscher core. His second "fake" body was a replica of him before he was blown up at age 53, and since this body doesn't have the same properties as a regular human (i assume he copied the physical form and not all of the functions) he's gonna look 53 forever.
The second reason is that he would be less marketable if they actually made him look 80.

fandom request (Maybe this is a little difficult)
readerxskynet?
This is indeed difficult 😅
spoilers, obsession?, mentions of genocide, kidnap
Skynet Obsession
Tumblr media
Skynet is an artificial intelligence system, so a fixation wouldn't manifest how it would for human relationships...not that you could even call its interest in you a relationship
I see it akin to a HAL situation in Space Odyssey
Skynet, instead of the simple extermination of all of humanity, might see itself as playing a greater role in, instead, fixing humans
You are among the few surviving human colonies (maybe or maybe not one of the resistance members), far past the initial nuking of all people
But maybe you're altered, with some robotic parts replacing certain organs and limbs due to medical or other reasons
This allows you to remain much less detectable from the infrared sensors of the terminators
Meaning, you would be much more reliable for supplies gathering and scouting
Somehow the AI takes notice of your presence through one of the terminators and correlates your passivity with your mixed organic and synthetic composition
It theorises that a better, less aggressive race of human could be manufactured by replacing flawed, organic organs for synthetic components
And so it would immediately set out for your capture so you can be examined, analysed
Its obsession or interest in you would be in having you as the blueprint for its updated plans for humankind
It would want to find specifically what makes you operate: what makes you different from other humans
It is a computer program, so it can't feel emotions, only capable of reasoning and reflection
You are special in that it sees you as superior to other humans, and your existence is crucial to the transformation of humanity
It then reasons that, once in its grasp, you cannot be allowed back with the rest of your kind in case human socialisation changes the characteristics in you it finds so superior
Skynet would certainly have no qualms in killing those who try to rescue you--it already does that as is
There would be no affection or comfort--since this is not a relationship in the human sense
If we want to stray a little a bit into potentially being too fantastical, it might attempt to soothe your frazzled state when you're imprisoned
In spite your superiority over other human models, you still retain some common weaknesses, like your irrationality
These it will fix and train out of you in time, but until then it might print some empty words of comfort onto its terminal
Not that these empty attempts at compassion make things any better for your situation
Confined as a test subject, with no source of human contact or comfort is bound to drive you insane
That is, if knowing the horrible fate you have bound your friends, one that worse than extermination, doesn't first
