My favourite hot take is that Simon adapts way better to being a civilian than Johnny does.
Johnny went and left for the army the second he could do so, relentlessly pushed his career and is, most likely, rarely not on base unless he's been told to fuck off or move his arse home (by either his superiors or family).
Simon on the other hand finished school and then took up an apprenticeship before joining the army. Even then he came home, took prolonged leave to help his family out. He spent way more time just living that reality. And even post Roba he was at home for a while before everything went to hell. He might not take a lot of leave since, because he has nothing to come home to, but he still knows to adjust to it.
If they take leave together Ghost settles remarkably well, still keeping an eye open but he's an adult who had time outside the forces to properly adjust to life.
Soap struggles. He gets by with his charm and bright blue eyes, and that's a good thing because he's too explosive, too intense for most normal social interactions.
He's caught somewhere between the 18 year old boy and the hardened SAS soldier and never spent enough time away to really grow into just John MacTavish. Not Sergeant, not Soap, not the FNG. Just him as a person outside of the military.
He navigates this part of his life like its a minefield. Making it through but boy oh boy, it's not looking graceful.
Ghost helps him mellow out in that regard, pointing out the messy weird mechanics of normal civilan life to him. Teaches him to enjoy that and not let his job ruin him. Simon who knows how quickly it can all fall apart can't help to see the beauty in the peace most people get to experience. He'll be damned if he can't share that beauty Johnny. Even if it's always just for a little while.
And because it's Ghost, who never steered him wrong Soap let's himself be led. Allows himself experiences outside of work and his family. And while he might not be eager to admit it, it makes him a better person.
And years down the line when they both made it out, last mission just one too many that was too close for comfort, all of that helps John MacTavish to adjust. Sure he mourns his life in the military, someone like him is bound to, but he's not too worried. He knows how to get by now. And even the days where he feels very out of his depth, he can approach with ease. Because he still has Simon at his side to show him the way forward.

“we need to stop treating kids as if they’re not real humans” and “we need to stop treating disabled people like children” are two ideas that are both true and can coexist
even if we started to treat kids with more respect and dignity… disabled people are not children. it is still bad to treat us as if we are kids, regardless of how well you treat a child

Does anyone else hate that meme about only boys thinking about the Roman Empire and girls (and some gay men) gleefully being like “I only think about [insert current pop culture trend]”.
And it’s like continuing the meme that boys are intelligent beings, interested in history while girls are just…not
This coupled with the girl math thing, and also the “boys when they time travel vs. girls” and overall bimbofication trend. We’e going back in time where pretending to be stupid and vapid was the norm and it just alienates women who are proud of their intelligence even more from other women

controversial take but being a longtime ghosts fan over the past few months has just been watching the captain become increasingly more prevalent in tags and fan content to the point where almost no other character’s stories or personalities are explored and usually if they are, it’s in relation to the captain.
I’m gay, a lesbian, and the amount of fanbases I’ve seen fall to mostly straight women and become a whirlpool of one white, conventionally attractive gay man played by a straight man has been so disappointing. the captain is not the only character in ghosts. he is not the deepest or most tragic character in ghosts. it is a found family themed show. we, gay people, do not exist as tragic entertainment to be fetishised. the women in this show are rarely mentioned in comparison to the captain, Kitty had multiple scenes about her abusive sister, is implied to come from a horrific colonialist background and basically came out as asexual in season 5 and nobody talked about it, Mary died in a way that was so horrific they didn’t even show it on camera but havers had five minutes of screen time and he is everything now, apparently.
it’s to the point where you can’t escape it, no matter what tags related to the show you do or don’t follow. I’ve seen it before with the way the good omens fanbase changed from people who respected this incredible story criticising blind faith in religion with queer characters that inherently further that message into people calling them “uwu husbands” or whatever.
I’m not particularly angry, I’m just sad to see that the internet has turned into this again. I love the captain. I love ben, he’s a fantastic actor that I grew up admiring!!! but the captain is not the entire show and I think we need to think about why he takes up like. 85% of fan works.

this is because whenever an afab person in history shows (what we would classify as) a hint of being a trans man, history consistently misgenders them and states that they cosplayed as a man because they existed in a patriarchal society.
also the term transfeminate was coined in the 1656 which was predominantly described people transitioning from women to men. but sure we didn’t exist back then.

Anyone who draws Tim/masky slim/skinny/whatever word you wanna use will be publicly executed by the guillotine. A similar punishment will be delivered to anyone who thinks of Toby as a incapable little baby that loves waffles and would never hurt a fly.
I will find you and I will make everyone throw rotten fruit at you.

i have rarely been this out of my mind seething angry at something i’ve seen online before but FORTY EIGHT THOUSAND LIKES on a video saying that older feminists need to shut up about the culture of young women making jokes about how women are just toooooo silly and not serious with their own money and eat less food than men do and just that’s a girly thing to do. and if you have any problem with this especially during a time when the Republican party is actively trying to make women into perpetual childbearers dependent on the men in their lives forever through economic coercion you actually hate women because you won’t let the girls have fun. GOD we’re never making it out of here.

What is the hozier thing? Ty
because of the nature of his music and the imagery he uses (myth, death, nature being used to explore love and devotion explored in various forms, how his music sometimes moves between the twin poles of the celebratory and the dark) people talk about him as though he's some mythical elvin fairy king and its increasingly uncomfortable. not just because he's simply an artist drawn to particular themes (like literally any other artist) but also because a lot of his music is addressing and exploring v real historical and social issues. people fixating on him as "the bog man" is very reductive and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth because he's not silent on the politics in his music either.

“mental age” is bullshit by the way. we all develop at different rates, and we all hit milestones at different times. an adult who is disabled, needs a carer, and/or still lives at home is still an adult
an individual disabled person may feel like they age differently from their peers, or they may feel as if they individually are “mentally a child”, but that is not a label you should slap on someone other than yourself
