i’d love to hear your answers for these for demon slayer actually too!
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?
From this ask game.
Aw man this is gonna be a little hard because while I love DS to death I haven't actually been involved much with the fandom (and my memory of anything before entertainment district & swordsmith village is hit and miss). So I'm using your post + various explorations on the internet to answer these and remind myself of stuff. This is truly what "[character name] all moments" videos are for lol
Also high key did not realize Sanemi is Genya's brother??? Kinda forgot about him tbh but I guess it checks out that he's sir stabs-a-lot
What is your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn’t matter if it’s canon or not)
Uzui x his wives - it's probably the most obvious choice but they're extremely sweet and I like them a lot???
Tanjiro & Zenitsu & Inosuke - you're right about this one: platonic do not separate!
Nezuko x Muichiro - my entire impression is "it's cute, I'm in".
I tried to shake out my shipless brain and come up with something for Senjuro because he is my boy but no luck. But I do love his friendship with Tanjiro so much.
Likewise Genya has such Energy but I don't know where to apply that in terms of shipping.
What's your least favorite ship for this character?
Rengoku x Akaza - you are also right about this one like. they've got nothing imo. this is not a chemistry situation no matter what Akaza does or says. not interested.
Shinobu x Mitsuri - the thing that gets me about these two is that Shinobu has a completely different variety of cheerfulness than Mitsuri, and Mitsuri has a different kind of anger. Not that it makes it impossible that they would make a decent couple but I don't see the point of connection there.
Zenitsu x Nezuko - I love Zenitsu but he gets on my nerves so quickly when he's making a big deal about Nezuko. The more I think about it the more this one annoys me even though I don't Hate it, because Nezuko is also part of the Squad - in a different way than Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, but still. In this case I don't like the idea of intrasquad shippery.
What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?
Mitsuri x Obanai - I'm willing to give Obanai a chance based on the socks thing being cute. Otherwise he's kind of an asshole and if he continues being that way he can shove off.
Muichiro x Genya - I don't really See it but they at least have some measure of shared experience.
Tanjiro x Kanao - I agree with you that it is kind of boring. I think it could be more interesting, but I don't know. My vibe with Tanjiro is that either he's very aro or there just hasn't been anyone that's really brought that spark yet. They'd have to be pretty exceptional though considering how he treats everyone.
re: your list, I feel pretty neutral about Rengoku x Uzui and Giyu x Shinobu. If I see something good of them I would enjoy it but I don't care that much either way.

Tumblr media
Heyyyy you all, guys, this is the continuation of this serie, i’ve tried put on the original post but Tumblr as always it’s full of bugs...so I need post separately. Hope u like muahsss
.
.
The festival is in full swing.  Tanjiro is now a man, walking with his sister who soon finds her partner, Zenitsu who takes her by the wrists and goes running towards a goldfish stall.
Tanjiro watches them with a half smile, pleased that Nezuko has found someone to protect her so well, now with Muzan dead, Tanjiro feels calm, he doesn't fear losing his loved ones like he used to.  While Tanjiro rambles on in his own thoughts, the noise in his stomach wakes him up.  He now walks in search of something to taste.
And he finds a takoyaki stand, and he orders some to taste it.  While standing waiting, the scent guides him to the chosen savory.  But now, another  scent burns him inside, a new one, an unknown, that despite being night it radiates around him like the sun.  When looking to the side Tanjiro comes across a divine creature, you.
You were hungry, and while being punished by your wait as you looked at your side, you found yourself in front of a beautiful palette of wines.  The eyes and hair of the man next to you are indescribable.  That's what you thought, until you saw him smiling.  Tanjiro extroverts you with a beautiful smile.
You slightly open your lips in return to the friendly handsome man at your side.
"-By the smell, I imagine this will be the best takoyaki I've had the opportunity to try."
Your lips and expression become more welcoming.  "- Ah yes, I always start here, you won't regret it."
And he responds with an even wider smile and his eyes confidently closed.
"- I'm Kamado Tanjiro."  My sister found a partner and here I am.  This is my story.  What about yours, miss?"
"- Oh ok, I'm y/n, and I'm passing through your country for the third time, so I can recommend this takoyaki."
…. The wine on his eyes takes a darker tone, due to the sadness of knowing that the divine creature next door could not be easily found. "- Oh, I see.  But apparently you like it here, maybe you should consider staying permanently y/n-kun. Someone to come back for?" Tanjiro asks, taking the takoyaki in his hands at the same time as you.
"- hmmm no, just like to know new places."
When trying to make your payment, Tanjiro gently grabs your wrist. "- Please let me do this kindness for someone who loves my place of origin this much." …
What defense against such a sentence accompanied by a genuine and hypnotic smile? All you can do is nood at him.
"- Thank you Kamado Tanjiro." …
He responds with his eyes fixed on yours, as if he can see your deepest parts… You were practically liquefied in his presence.
" -  If it's not inconvenient on my part.  I would like to accompany you y/n-kun in your remaining time here. Please."
We can consider you in a gaseous state now, you practically evaporate.
"- Yes, it would be my pleasure, Kamado Tanjiro."
"- Tanjiro only." He says, gesturing in refusal of mere formalities.
"- Alright then, Tanjiro ." You say smiling, as you put one of the takoyaki in your mouth.
"- It sounds much better with you saying it."
The chemistry is immediate. As you keep your eyes to admire him. The scar on his face, the marks on his skin. Everything intrigues you, where does it come from? The body… his muscular body doesn't help you to concentrate on the words that he is uttering right now.
"- Y/n, I know maybe it sounds like soon, but it would be a great pleasure to have you as my guest for a meal at my house.  I insist on doing it myself."    ...
"- Okay, He is kind, handsome, strong and knows how to cook.  What will be his Pandora's box?" Asks your monologue... "- Ahmm, sure Tanjiro, thank you for the kind invitation."...
Eyes open in excitement for your “yes”…
"- Aahh, that's great, you made me very happy y/n." …
During the rest of the festival there was Tanjiro, being a gentleman. At some point you were introduced to his beautiful sister Nezuko and also to the witty Zenitsu. When introducing you, you felt one of Tanjiro's hands on one side of your waist. direction, Tanjiro's lips, along with a whisper close to your ear, questioning you. "- Y/n, darling.  Is it okay if I put my hand here?" His voice, like a sweet flute sound, echoes in your eardrums. You, looking at him, contemplating the wind blowing the marsala hair of him take you to another reality…
"- Sure, it's all good, Tanjiro." He smiles again.
With each smile a new blow that weakens you.
The festival ends and Tanjiro refuses to let you walk through the darkness alone and insists on going with you. "- haha...You're afraid something will attack me, Tanjiro? Like  what?  Monsters, what can eat people? hahaha." … You didn't even realize it, but your words woke up new fears in this man. The scene of the torn family was something that still couldn't get out of Tanjiro's head. But... " You didn't know anything besides, you are the purest creature that ever set foot on this earth and nothing bad can come to you."
These are the words toying with gentle Kamado's sanity dancing on his mind.
But what potion do you used on him... y/n?... Your scent makes him float , your eyes, not even the most beautiful blinking star could compete... Your forms, what a tortuous road that invites him to the most tragic accident… Every detail of yours tore him apart.
"Ahh y/n... By what? Why do you torture him this much?"... Tanjiro hasn't needed to use breathing techniques in a long time.  But now he needs them, to dominate himself, against the cruelest of enemies. You.  That subjugates him and pushes him to a precipice to die and resurrect as a new person.  You are oblivious as this jumble of words squeezes his chest, which you for a moment dared to look at.  Tanjiro's kimono is slightly open, leaving his strong chest playing with your imagination.
And with this slight change in your scent, Tanjiro knows exactly what you're thinking.  He inhales deeply, your wants.  And what keeps him from falling before you on his knees as a slave, is the strongest desire to stay with you...
"But... You don't belong here, but who but Kamado Tanjiro can keep you safe in this cruel world, you are all by yourself?" …
Cmon y/n,  you're not the only one who has monologues.
The steps are changing on the floor as you approach your destination.  A hotel in the city where you are staying.
Tanjiro uses his all to maintain his composure in front of you.  And before the door, he stretches out his hand, and as if touching the most delicate masterpiece, he brings your hand to his lips.  And closing his eyes slowly in a painful farewell he allows you to feel the heat of his lips, and tenderly kisses your hand.
You can't describe his touch, how he makes your body shiver…
"- Y/n, I can't tell you the pleasure that it was to meet you. Tomorrow as soon as I can, I'll be here to guide you with me. And approaching your ear, Tanjiro whispers. "- It will be hard to wait.  Sleep well darling."
With the whisper you have your muscles working against you. It feels like you've become a rag doll. You sigh, in your weakness. "- aahm, it was a wonderful night, thank you, Tanjiro.  See you tomorrow."...
He nods with a gentle look, and you decide to leave before falling right there, he waves as he sees your silhouette disappearing into the establishment.
Seeing you've entered Tanjiro looks at what he has in his hands now. A lock of your hair, which has been cut without you noticing. He takes to his nostrils and getting intoxicated with your scent, Tanjiro knew that it was you. Which.. more has already awakened in him such a feeling. The desire to be close, to protect, to care, to love, to have a family. "No... You can't go back"
On the other hand, you,In your room, close your eyes and remember every smile, look, colors and the variety of sensations. Tanjiro proved to be a great thief. Your heart is no longer alone in your hands. Be careful y/n… At this point, how can you get back?...
At sunrise, the rays enter your room gently through the sheer silk curtains. Tanjiro can arrive at any moment. Hurry up…You want to be prepared.
You get ready like never before…. You have no mercy, hu?  Your eyes are made up, your hair adjusted after your careful shower. And your beautiful dress completes your figure. You want to see it more than anything and you want Tanjiro to  find yourself at your best.  Upon receiving the message that your gentleman is waiting for you, you go for it.
Don't think you were the only one who prepared well.  Tanjiro is wearing a beautiful dark Kimono that reminds of the beautiful colors that adorn his hair and eyes.
The vehicle?  Tanjiro came with a beautiful, intimidating black horse to take you to his home, beyond the mountains.  Seeing you prepared to be with him, Tanjiro feels his heart pounding. Yes…" She has no mercy."
The scarred hand is extended to you.  And to outshine the sun, Tanjiro smiles as he makes the invitation.
 "- Come with me y/n."
You climb with him on the majestic Kamado family horse.
 "- Hold on to me."
You wrap your arms around him, and why not? Now you have a good excuse to do it.  Tanjiro gently places his hands on your arms making you come closer to him.  You, when you feel him completely,  the result is the obvious...fall apart. Yeah…He knows to be cruel too…Tanjiro's strong back and arms, wrapped in the beautiful kimono and the wind blowing his hair that in the sunlight burns like embers, leave you at the mercy of the son of the sun.
"- Can we go, y/n?"
You mutter in response and Tanjiro starts drive his amazing vehicle.  It's all so beautiful along the way, the mountains, the flowers, the animals.  It is breathtaking he is the icing on the cake…  He walks slowly, always checking how comfortable you are.
And finally, you arrive at Kamado's residence, which you found lovely.
Tanjiro climbs off the horse and extends his arms to get you. Arms are given back to him and pick you up and direct you to the ground, while doing it, Tanjiro takes advantage of his strength and does incredibly slowly, on your way to the ground, he puts your face incredibly close to his, letting you feel each other's breath.  When you have your feet on the ground you, thank him as if you and him don't stare like it was the last time you would see each other on this small moment.  Tanjiro has a surrendered look to you.
The reception is warm with Nezuko, Zenitsu and a new friend.  Inosuke, who you haven't been introduced to yet.
Tanjiro does what he promised.  He's cooking in the kitchen while you're chatting with family and friends in the living room. It Doesn't take long for Tanjiro to show up while you're telling the ones with you about some of your trips.
"- Y/n, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but I wanted you to make me company, can you come with me? Then we'll talk about your lovely experiences later."  Said Tanjiro with a smile.
You look at him for a moment in a pause, but anyway decided to do it. Standing up, you join whom you yourself without knowing well begin to cherish affection.  Tanjiro is cooking, and he looks at you quickly between his movements.
"- I'm sorry to bring you like this, but I want to know more than anyone else about you and what you've been up to."
You find yourself speechless, but manage the situation.
"- Ah yes, I like to travel, see the nature, that kind of things, another cultures. It calms me down." …
"- Great, we have that in common. I also love being close to nature."
"Yes, you are privileged to always be here."
You said what he always wanted to hear...
"- Y/n... I don't need to be the privileged one. I extend this privilege to you."
Your surprised eyes search for the meaning of what you have just heard.
"- I mean, you can be here whenever you want, or forever if you want."  He says confidently as he cooks with assertive and beautiful movements. You think that attitude is strange, and starts to play with.
"- Well Tanjiro, and if I were a bad person, you wouldn't know."
Tanjiro laughs after your words.  And still smiling with a whisper like a naughty child sharing a secret.  "- Don't worry, I can assure you… I would know."
You purse your lips as you shake your head at the "playful" Kamado Tanjiro.
"-Prove this."  He speaks by putting some broth to your lips, with a large spoon.  You pick it up suddenly and do your best not to mess up.
"- hmmm wow, delicious, the taste is divine."
We need a better word than satisfied to describe what Tanjiro felt when he saw you enjoying the food that he prepared.
"- My heart is glad to know that you enjoyed it y/n darling. Let's all eat now."
Nezuko enters, as does Zenitsu to help set everything on the table.  Tanjiro sits next to you.  And he insists on having your plate always full as well as your cup of sake.  You make the most of everyone's company, talk, hear stories, and tell yours.
Tanjiro is by your side as you feel your muscles loosen from the alcohol.  And without realizing it, your head is on Tanjiro's chest.  And he responds with caresses in your locks.
"- Y/n, I think you need to rest my dear."  This is Tanjiro, who takes possession of you and takes you to his room.  You are lying down and totally relaxed on his bed.
Tanjiro sitting next to you is now rubbing the back of his hand across your face, your eyes blink lazily.
You're still sober enough to admire him. He looks majestic. And without the filter you normally would have, you think aloud.  "- You are handsome Kamado Tanjiro."
He approaches with a fixed and serious gaze.  And kisses you while his hands show his affection to touch your face and all of you, you wrap your arms around him while you run your hands through his hair roughly.
The flavor that Tanjiro allows you to taste is sweeter than a honeycomb that drips when picked, so in the midst of so much sweetness, you fall asleep.
Tanjiro is more intoxicated than you ever were.
It doesn't matter what percentage of sake you've ingested. He is more than mad… But anyway, he covers your body while admiring your entire being, so in this state, you surrender to sleep.
When he returns to the table, everyone is laughing.  Zenitsu said that the kisses exchanged in the room were audible to anyone.
Nezuko amid curiosity asks.  "- Is she your girlfriend now, brother?"
Tanjiro seriously answers.  "- No, Nezuko... Not  a mere girlfriend, she's my half."
Nezuko has a puzzled expression upon hearing her brother's words.
"- But isn't she a foreign? You said she was passing by when you introduced me to her, remember?"
Tanjiro, who is now eating the dessert he made, looks her in the eye with determination, and retorts.
"- No, not anymore. She came to stay. Here, with me, with us, forever."
We can say that ...your stay at the hotel is over now... And so is your farewell...  After all, at the Kamado residence, you are close to everything you like, the country you always sought to have the privilege of settling and nature and especially close to the handsome Tanjiro...
Don't blame him y/n... You said it all to him. Have a good eternal stay at his home, that's all you can do from now on... You can try scape, but deep inside you know that’s scars all over of him don’t came by nothing... He hides somenthing... "

My mind is a soup of KNY, RWBY & Parahumans, so...
RWBY AU
Salem’s still the main villain, Muzan’s one of her enforcers.
Yoriichi is combined with Tanjuro here, making him T&N’s father, a SEW (ofc) and the Summer Rose equivalent.
Used to be on a team w/ Michikatsu, Gyomei, and Tamayo, w/ Shinjuro, Amane & their team being their seniors.
Nezuko inherited his Silver eyes, Tanjiro just inherited his looks, birthmark, earrings, and a whole host of father issues.
The Kamados (just Yoriichi, Tanjiro, Nezuko & Kie) are Caprinae faunus, w/ Kie, Tanjiro & Hinatsuru (Kie’s little sister) being Argali sheep, and Nezuko somehow coming out a Himalayan Tahr.
Michikatsu is transfem and Mui/Yui’s deadbeat mom.
Inosuke is a boar faunus whose trait is his ears, thus leaving him a pretty boy, to his own dismay.
Tanjiro, Inosuke, Kanao & Zenitsu are on a team. Zenitsu leads. You did not read that wrong.
Nezuko is on a team w/ Genya, Muichiro, and one of the Ubayashiki kids. Or Senjuro, who’s in a Jaune-like situation.
Giyuu (fox faunus), Sabito (hare faunus), Sanemi & Kanae were a team. Tengen and wives are a team. And Kyojuro, Mitsuri, Makomo & Shinobu were a team.
Obanai is ex-White Fang, and Nakime’s twin.
I have most of their semblances & weapons figured out, but they’ll be detailed in a separate post.
Parahumans AU
The less developed one by far, (though longer, ironically) still thinking up powers and triggers.
Muzan is a Master/Brute/Trump, with regeneration and the ability to enter “contracts” with Parahumans, enhancing their own power & regeneration in exchange for being able to kill them at will AND gain a crude copy of their power.
Kagaya is his cluster mate, a Thinker/Master who can discern someone’s beliefs and opinions through conversations, and a voice that both calms them and predisposes them into believing he has their best interest in mind.
Yoriichi is once again the Tanjirou & Nezuko’s dad, and served on the Sentai Elite w/ Michikatsu & Shinjuro.
He was basically Sun-themed Legend, powerful light based breaker state that eschewed lasers for solar flare abilities/whips, with a thinker power that allowed him to perceive the world in slow motion. This power had the caveat of the more people that looked up to him, the more powerful he was.
Kokushibou shared Yoriichi’s Thinker power, but was otherwise a Combat Tinker, specializing in miniaturized fusion powered devices such as a plasma cutter, a specialized combat suit, and a specialized training dummy.
Nezuko is a Brute/Striker/Trump, having the bog standard demon toughness and regeneration, alongside generating flames that could negate other Parahuman powers.
Tanjiro is a Brute/Thinker, who can perceive emotions as scents, along with generating a prismatic forcefield around him, parts of which could break off and explode. Gains a second Trigger which allows him to shape the forcefield into crude weaponry, alongside gaining a Master power that allowed his flames to perceive how his target’s hurt people, and turn said pain back on them.
Muichiro is a Breaker/Stranger/Shaker, who can dissipate into an amnesia inducing fog he can also manipulate and move through.
Shinobu is a Bio-Tinker, specializing in alchemical creations, specifically poisons and medicines, along with altering her own chemistry to become toxic, and devices meant to deliver them.
Sanemi is a Brute/Blaster, who by cutting open his skin kick starts aerokinesis that aerosolizes his blood into a disorienting gas, combined with a somewhat limited healing factor.
Genya is a Changer/Trump with some Brute characteristics, just tougher and with a healing factor, who by ingesting the flesh of others can take on their physical characteristics, including Parahuman abilities.
Inosuke is a Brute/Changer, rubbery body and flexible organs combined with a wereboar transformation that becomes more and more monstrous the longer he fights. Imagine Lung, but admittedly less powerful.

Let’s Explore the Wondrous Wintry Figures from Wonder Festival 2020
Wonder Festival is one of the biggest figure events of the year, showcasing all the latest and upcoming figures from all the major creators in the space. Held twice a year—once during the summer (of which you can read 2019’s report here) and once during the winter at Makuhari Messe outside of Tokyo—you’ll be astounded by the level of detail in some of these figures—I sure was! This year’s event took place on February 9.
Before we take a look at some of the best figures on show, there was something more serious overshadowing the festival this time ‘round. Wonder Festival in winter is supposed to the bigger of the two events, due to the milder weather and time of the year, but this wasn’t the case. With the coronavirus currently sweeping through the world, and Japan being one of the biggest outbreaks outside of China, tensions felt high and attendance felt low. The official Twitter account for Wonder Festival even outlined the precautionary measures the festival was taking to help combat anything that could go wrong, and discredit any rumors. Masks and hand sanitizer were provided at all entrances, exits, and many other locations.
After last year’s lack of figures from the hit anime and manga series, Demon Slayer: Kimestu no Yaiba was out in full force with figures everywhere, including some prototypes that weren’t allowed to be photographed! To start with are the above SegaPrize figures of Tanjiro, Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Nezuko, meant for UFO catchers in the arcades. Nezuko’s isn’t painted yet, but I’m sure she’ll be ready for the upcoming film, Mugen Train, when that releases.
The newly announced Giyu figure had his acrylic prototype on display next to the in-production models of Zenitsu and Inosuke, both unpainted. Release dates for all of these figures haven’t been announced yet, but they should be popular when they do.
Behind the Nendoroids were in-production models of the first Pocket Maquette Demon Slayer collection. These will be mainly sold as capsule toys or as a set in the future.
To celebrate the series, and the upcoming release of the Tanjiro and Nezuko Nendoroids, both were used in this action set that was just so much fun to photograph!
On display at the Good Smile booth was a collection of all the Persona 5 figmas that have been released, or will be released—including an acrylic prototype of Akechi!
In the same area was an in-production, uncolored model of Kasumi from Persona 5 Royal in her school uniform from Phat!. Behind Kasumi was a Persona 5 Dancing All Night Ann, in her dancing outfit from the game. At one of the closed-off 18+ booths, they were also showing off an Ann figure in her dominatrix outfit from the same game, though they weren’t allowing pictures.
Fans of Kasumi in her Phantom Thief gear would be happy to know that there is a figure of her in the outfit coming, and it looks spectacular.
What else was spectacular was the amount of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- figures and statues on the show floor, with the above being the biggest.
Don’t worry, though, because the majestic Crystal Dress Rem also comes in a more manageable figure size. Both it and the Crystal Dress Emilia (above) are from the new Shibuya Scramble Figure line, named after the famous crossing in Shibuya. While they fetch a hefty price tag of over 30,000 yen (US$280) each, by the looks of them, they’re worth it.
Not to be outdone, these Tea Party Re:ZERO figures from KDColle were some of the nicest on show. They were even shown in two places on the Wonder Festival floor! The Beatrice figure is brand new and was only shown in KDColle’s main area.
KDColle announced a few weeks ago these birthday versions of Rem and Ram, initially used as part of the visual for their birthday celebrations at Shibuya Marui this year. The figures, as a set, won’t be released until November so being able to see them here was a nice surprise!
Alongside them were these newly announced prototypes of Rem and Ram yurumari figures, the first of a new line of chibi-style figures from Fine Clover (in partnership with Good Smile).
Keeping up with the Rem and Ram theme were these two 1/1 scale busts of the girls from Re:ZERO from F:NEX. The Rem bust was released in October, but this is the first proper showing of the Ram bust, which was supposed to be released in January before production was delayed to March.
Other than the Crystal Dress versions of Rem and Emilia, Shibuya Scramble Figures brings in Ram and creates an idol figure formation group with all three characters from Re:ZERO, in some of the best-looking prototypes I’ve ever seen.
Shibuya Scramble didn't stop there with some of the best looking figures on the show floor, with them flexing hard with how detailed their Alice and Asuna from Sword Art Online Alicization War of Underworld prototypes are. It’s crazy how good these figures look!
Though those figures have nothing on the above figures of Casca from Berserk and the guys from Death Stranding, both being exhibited by Prime Studios near the start of the festival.
But by far, my favorite display in the entire hall was the recreation of the scene shown off for the upcoming Evangelion 3.0+1.0 film, with Mari’s pink Evangelion unit being attacked whilst throwing what looks like the Eiffel Tower at an AT Field. Of course, this was only a display and sadly won’t be for sale.
What will be for sale are these two newly designed Evangelions. I’m not sure what they’re for, or if they’ll appear in the upcoming film, but for prototypes, they’re incredibly detailed.
And this unbearably adorable, and quite large, Lego-like Bearbrick Unit 01 that was showcased at the Evangelion booth!
SEGA is getting in on the Evangelion craze that’ll sweep Japan later this year with new releases of what looks like Evangelion 3.33 versions of Rei, Asuka, and Mari, which will appear in arcades over the coming year as a series. Though I could be wrong and they could be new...
Separate from the above series is this Asuka SEGA price figure, on her own, as she likes it, with a spear.
EmonToys sparked my interest with these figures from the A Certain Magical Index anime franchise, showing off an in-prototype version of Misaka Mikoto from the currently airing A Certain Scientific Railgun, in her signature pose, and Accelerator in his winter outfit as seen in the latest A Certain Magical Index series, posing with his vectors.
Finally, I looked high and low for a figure from one of my favorite series from last year, Dr. STONE, and the only one I was able to find was the above figure of Kohaku with Suika’s melon. While it was the only figure I could find, I’m in love with the pose she’s making and cannot wait to see the full painted figure.
I always love wandering around Wonder Festival and seeing the creativity on display. You can feel the heart (and sweat) that goes into designing some of these figures, and while I know they’re made mostly to be sold commercially, you can feel the care and thought that goes into the creation of them. It’s also really sweet seeing some of the designers walking around the show floor going gaga over different figures.
The next big Wonder Festival showcase this year will be a special Evangelion themed festival on June 13 and 14, just before Evangelion 3.0+1.0 is released in cinemas!

I has been a week of blistering afternoons and wild festival movies and lots and lots of work. And lest you think I be complaining, these are all very good things. Except for the heat – I could do with less of that. But good and fun as these things may be, they can end up a little exhausting, so I was looking forward to lazing around on the weekend and having a nice little Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba chat with my friend Crow. How are you Crow?
I’m well, thanks for asking! It’s pretty hot down here in the States, too. Better than a couple of weeks ago, though. I’ll be bold his week (it still feels like an unnatural state!) and to be clear, there may be spoilers!  What an episode, too! I can’t wait to dig in!
This week opened up not on our heroes battling the giant spider demon, but on what I can only assume is fan favourite Giyuu (if fan art is to be believed, this guy is everywhere!) and the butterfly girl whose name I’m not sure we know.
They mentioned her name like once in the previous episode. She’s Shinobu Kocho.
Crow, is she the same girl that passed the final trial with Tanjiro? If so, she must have risen in the ranks extremely quickly to be accompanying Giyu now!
She looks just like her — seems to have an affinity for butterflies, too! So I dug deeply into the archives and searched for hours (okay, I Googled for a few minutes) — I think they’re separate. The other survivor from the trial is Kanao Tsuyuri. They have absolutely got to be connected somehow. I think that Shinobu is a demon. Can they have kids? Or maybe Kanao is her younger human sister?
So, the scene opens on these two arriving in Spider forest to either rescue the surviving Demon corp members (about time there guys…) or kill the demons. The organization seems rather martial and hawkish, so my money is on the latter.
The butterfly girl whose name I don’t know (Hey! I just told you! Oh, right, writing is asynchronous! Sorry — carry on!) I just forgot sheesh – whose name is Kachow, is extremely cheerful through all of this and has this high pitched sing songy voice that clashes with the surroundings. I’m not scared of spiders at all, but butterflies creep me out. And this girl sends chills down my spine. It’s likely only due to my personal brand of crazy, but I have immediate distrust towards this poor young lady.
Actually, I think she earned it. I found her attitude to be quite scary. Not head spider-level terrifying, but enough to make me draw a sword. If I had one. And I don’t.
After the opening credits, we catch up with Inosuke and Tanjiro trying to deal with giant spider papa. Throughout the fight, he keeps repeating “Stay away from my family.” He’s consciousness seems a lot dimmer than all the other spider demons. Despite Tanjiro’s insistence to the contrary, I’m almost certain this guy is not one of the 12. Sure, he is very physically strong, but his mind seems mostly gone, like one of the underling demons.
All the higher ups have been frighteningly smart. They’ve needed to use some brains to survive,  I suppose. And we know that Kibutsuji isn’t exactly the patient type. I don’t see him putting up with spider dude for very long. Nope! I’m calling super obvious red herring on this one.
I don’t know for sure, but I agree with you!
This said the fight was fun to watch. Choreography remains stellar. I think my favourite moment was seeing Inosuke skip across the water like a flat stone.
In my notes, I had written, “Inosuke skipped like a stone…” Great minds and all! The water animation, too, I thought was just fantastic!
My second favourite part was seeing Inosuke run away. It was played for laughs and possibly that’s all it was. A gag. But in the context of that character, it’s a huge growth moment. Inosuke does not know when to quit. Often putting his life at risk and losing the advantage. He is a straightforward brawler without any strategic sophistication who considers anything other than raw strength embarrassing. But he still opted for a tactical retreat without anyone telling him, and he wasn’t that wounded yet. To me, it shows forethought and strategic thinking that were out of reach until now. Not to mention that he had to let go of whatever “honor” or “power” ideals he was holding onto. Even I think I’m reading too much into this.
I hope you’re not, because I picked up on the same thing. I think Tanjiro’s a good influence on him!
We got a quick look at how Zenitsu is doing as well. In short, not great. Even the little nightmare spider creatures felt sorry for him. In what he thinks his last moments are, all he could do was uselessly apologize to Nezuko. I’m not sure for what. Not saving her I suppose. Still, it wasn’t a show of self pity, grief or vengeance fueled anger. It was regret of not being there for another. I thought that was sweet.
Of course, I don’t think we’re going to lose Zenitsu any time soon. It may be very gory but Demon Slayer is still something of a children’s show. Like those old terrifying fairy tales. The heroes don’t just die in the middle like that.
Sadly it’s suspicious butterfly girl that comes to his rescue so he  may wish he had died…
The animation of her butterflies, then her descent onto the cabin, was hauntingly beautiful. Her outfit even looked like butterfly wings as she landed. Given her cheerful and carefree attitude, I wonder if Zenitsu thought he was hallucinating? I’m pretty sure I would have thought so.
Now all three main Demon hunters are separated. Tanjiro, having been thrown far from Inosuke and the Spider papa, is just landing in another part of the woods. I almost expected him to fall on Giyuu. Instead though, he pulled off a pretty smart move, using his water wheel to curve and slow the trajectory of his fall allowing him to survive the landing. Although not exactly unscathed. I really liked this. It was a smart functional use of water breathing. Were you as impressed as I was, Crow?
Yes, I was! He used a similar technique when he fought the dying vector demon back in episode 10, didn’t he? Tanjiro never stops thinking, and I like that about him.
Tanjro may not have landed on Giyuu, but he did seem to land on little brother and sister demon instead. There were some really interesting speculations in the comments of last week’s post, over on Crow’s blog, that the two may actually be one and the same. It seems they are physically separate at least, not that they couldn’t turn out to be linked on some level.
That little sister is just so meek for a demon. She seems gentler than Nezuko and aside from calling for her daddy when a maniac wearing a bore head started screaming that he was going to kill her and brandishing weapons, she actually hasn’t done anything even remotely aggressive. And from my description, I bet you can tell I don’t think that was aggressive either.
The story is purposefully showing her not attacking a lot. I’m thinking there’s a reason behind that.
I had a hard time finding her name, but it seems to be Kumo oni: Ane. I’m reading her character the same way you are. And though I’m sure it’s just because I’m wired to feel sorry for a sobbing female, I really felt bad for her. Rui’s obvious cruelty helped that along, I’m sure!
Out of the blue and unbelievably unharmed, not scared and rather jerky demon slayer shows up to give little bro a chance to show off his overpowered skills. I understand the function of the scene, but considering all that has happened, the odds are just too impossible that a random guy got separated from the group, has been just fine all this time and is happy about bumping into demons he can attack? It was way too contrived. There must have been a better way to establish little brother’s skills and power level. Magic glasses or something?
Even the little extra bit he said — about advancing up the ladder so he could earn more money, almost hinting at some kind of fiscal corruption, didn’t help. His attitude was the most un-Demon Slayer like we’ve seen.
I could only come up with two explanations. First, we’re going to learn something amazing about that character in the near future that’ll blow us away. Or, the main writer went to get a drink or take a restroom break, and the junior writers just wanted to get to the next scene.
I’m thinking number two. And you know what – you tried guys!
We got back to Inosuke, and I suddenly had a series of revelations. First, I realized that the characters are better individually than together. They just don’t have the proper chemistry as a group. They should be pen pals from now on. Second, as a wounded Inosuke is hiding and trying to survive, I realized that I was genuinely worried for Inosuke. How, why huh? Is it just a function of proper tension and dramatic timing? Inosuke is my least favourite character and I think he is responsible for a lot of the elements that don’t work in Demon Slayer, but I was biting my nails wishing that he would be ok. I’m so fickle!
Then, as he had his grand moment chopping of the demon’s arm, we got a fantastic scene where papa dropped everything and high tailed it out of there! I loved it and instantly changed my mind about the papa demon character (for now). Do I just like people who run away? Maybe I do. Maybe that’s why I’m a lot more forgiving of Zenitsu than most folks are. I respect people who know when to give up!
Pen pals? “Dear Insouke. I hope the day finds you well…” Well, it would certainly make for different pacing! But I see what you mean. I loved seeing Inosuke develop as he was apart from Tanjiro. He was forced to be honest with himself, especially given how powerful his opponent was.
But do you know what else I thought was really cool? You could see the impact Tanjiro has had on him in their short time together. Inosuke probably couldn’t put it into words, but he’s starting to really respect Tanjiro. Remember, just before papa spider sent Tanjiro practically into orbit, Insouke watched Tanjiro power up and thought, “He’s about to do something totally mind-blowing!” That’s not something Inosuke would have said just a week ago.
Character development rocks.
Sadly, papa isn’t actually a huge demon version of Zenitsu, and he was just finding a safe spot to turn into… basically the same thing. A bigger version of himself with more eyes and I’m guessing even stronger and tougher but still just a brute strength gear check.
Too bad, he was really interesting for a second there.
Not that an unstoppable force isn’t an impressive opponent. Inosuke took quite the punishment and the skull crushing scene was difficult to watch. But at this point, it just seemed like something we’ve seen before. What do you think Crow?
Sure, papa spider 2.0 was an upgrade, but you make a good point. The only thing I thought was different was how Inosuke reacted. He nearly gave up, re-found his courage (always a stirring moment for me!), and tried again.
Was that Inosuke’s mom we saw as he hovered on the edge of unconsciousness? Now I want to know more about his past!
I think it was. It’s how I read the moment.
For the third time in the episode, we had a Demon Slayer unexpectedly showing up next to one of our main characters. This time Giyuu. Ok, I get it. Giyuu has a great design. I would draw him too!
Moreover, Giyuu uses water breathing. Did we know that?
Okay, now I know you somehow snuck into my computer and read my notes. At 20:19, I had written, “Did we know Giyuu uses water breathing techniques like Tanjiro?”
I guess the other way to answer that is by just saying, “No!” Pretty cool, though. Assuming Tanjiro survives (and I’m trying not to get ahead of ourselves here!), he has quite a powerful future to look forward to.
Since Tanjiro learned his technique from Urokodaki, does that mean Giyuu also trained under him? And Crow, did you see if Giyuu had a black sword? They made a big deal about that but then just sort of forgot about it. So many questions!
Re-watching the scene, I think you’re right — it does look black. Good catch!
The very last scene returned us to Tanjiro facing off with little brother. Nezuko still presumably in that crate on his back. I still don’t understand why we haven’t seen her in this arc. The episode ends on a first-person cliffhanger. Cheeky! And quite visceral. I felt that one!
I think this is the worst cliff-hanger they’ve sprung on us. What the heck, Demon Slayer?
I’m excited to see what Giyuu and Butterfly girl can bring to the mix and curious about what little sister is hiding. She even looks a little like Nezuko. I think… We haven’t seen her in a long time. Any final thoughts Crow?
I’m still annoyed about that cliffhanger! That aside, I enjoyed seeing Inosuke and Tanjiro both pushed to their limits. Isn’t it interesting to see what a character does at the point of greatest stress? It really shows what they’re made of.
That cliffhanger, though…
