#lmao nothing makes me feel more dyslexia than doing field work#i cannot do math in my head#i cannot process instruction. i cannot communicate literally anything. my communication skills r held together with string lol#my language skills lol. im constantly stumbling over words and forgetting words i need#whats the word...? how do u say it...? must be some of my most used phrases. my brain just works on a delay lol#me trying to learn german: well i can vaguely remember the shape of this word but not the actual spelling and also i cant remember how to#pronounce it. its so funny. my brain cannot read sounds into existence. i read aloud in English like an elementary schooler#also if u say the word out loud to me i will instantly forget it. lmao the effort it takes to get info into my brain#i sent off my personal statement for edits btw. which is terrifying bc its like my heart is bleeding thru my ribs and i pressed a page to#my chest. that is my personal statement. overindulgent and rambling. so the cuts will probably be brutal but thats fine#im not so sensitive abt the editing so much as im sensitive abt how i structured it. like did i do it wrong? should it have been clinical?#that seems so boring to me. idk we'll see what he thinks. i still think theres no way i get the scholarship but whatever. he's putting the#effort into working with me so i must show some potential. but also i cant find anything on how to format the statment from the department#and im annoyed at the uk grading system bc technically i have a 2:1 in my undergrad but literally if i round up by 0.01 on the us system id#have a 1st. and like not to diss the uk uni system but the way they grade is bullshit and also the us system is like brutal so i feel like#my grade should count for more lmao. im just bitter and worried i wont get in. bc the project would b so so so perfect#ugh. whatever. one step at a time. now onto the next thing. do i write or draw...?#unrelated

Desi s/o making desi food for the Dorm Leaders
Requested by enbytomura (on AO3) Warnings- fem implied reader (but not really lol), food, fluff, brief mentions of dieting, bad dialogue courtesy of Jester
A short cute lil thing :) I hope this encourages y’all to try some indian food bc these are some very basic picks
Tumblr media
Riddle
Tumblr media
What you make him: Gulab Jamun
Rosewater?! In food?! He’s drooling already
The fluffy center, perfectly toasted outside, completely wrapped in a glaze of rose infused sugar syrup, Riddle is in heaven
He’s holding the spoon with his full, closed fist, elbows on the table, face covered in sugar syrup
His mom would be so upsetti spaghetti, but who cares lol
He’ll notice how messily he’s eating and just take a lil pause, and blushes super hard
Gives you a hug after eating, he’s very grateful
“Thank you so so much.”
Leona
What you make him: Lamb Biryani
He literally smells it from the kitchen and goes zoom
Man runs with purpose
Barrels in and asks for a plate (real respectful)
Tries so desperately not to show how deeply he just fell in love
Adores lamb above all, tender and practically falling off the bone, with the rice practically
soaking up spices, he won’t even get upset about the vegetables
Expect him to act like it was mediocre, but with the ferocity of his eating, you know better
“The lamb was good, don’t expect me to tell you again.”
Azul
I’m gonna jump off what the requester said abt pakoras
Our boy Azul loves loves loves pakoras
Especially paneer and potato-onion pakoras
With the paneer, he loves how soft and fluffy the soft cheese is, along with the crispy, spiced coating, his favorite sauce for those is the minty cilantro chutney, he’s so happy
With potato-onion, the far crispier of the two, with unraveling layers of red onion and thinly sliced potato wrapped up in the same spiced coating, he’ll eat that one with a tangy tamarind chutney
Literally feed this man please
“It’s my cheat day today, perhaps you could teach me to make what you fed me last week?”
Kalim
What you make him: Gol Gappa
Pani Puri, Gol Gappa, call it what you want, its good and I’m eating it
He probably grew up eating the best of the best, that probably included desi food
Rich people desi food, yknow
This makes him super excited to eat street food
Loves the fun aspect of eating Gol Guppa, definitely swallows in all in one go, reckless abandon for the win
Jamil is so happy for the two hours off he’s getting
Loves the sour and spicy cold water, along with the crunchy hallow flour puffs, definitely loads them up with potatoes
“Wonder if he could add a little more spice…”
Vil
What you make for him: Dal Makhani
Vil probably goes on a vegetarian diet at some point, because of his fondness of salad and smoothies, this didn’t bother him much, but the repetition gets him bored
So of course, you help out your man!
When he finally sits down to eat, his senses are flooded with joy
Loves it so much
The creamy, thick soup, speckled with lentils and beans, green basil and a swirl of white butter, along with a side of roti, or naan to eat it with, he’ll never forget it
One that def loves having desi food regularly, esp during diets he’ll lean back on spices to make his food taste better
He will definitely make you some german food as a thank you, like spaetzle or apple strudel
“Liebling, your cooking is spectacular.”
Idia
What you make for him: Chai with biscuits
He’s one of those people who forgets to eat during his game sessions
You get a little worried about your guy :(
Ortho assists you in procuring biscuits as you make chai
Idia is a little startled when you show up with a thermos and a cute little plate full of biscuits
He's so appreciative!!!
Walks with a little pep in his step for a while after (around his room ofc)
Tries to make it for you, with decent results (man is good at following written instruction)
“This is so good, do you want one of the biscuits?”
Malleus
What you make him: Kulfi
We know how much our boy loves ice cream
You know how much your boy loves ice cream
So you make him the objectively best kind of ice cream
Its trial and error at first, and malleus gets a little curious about the mystery project your working on
When you finally present it to him, he's absolutely elated!
His child of man! Made him something with love!
Absolutely adores it so much, literally devours it
The creamy ice cream on the stick, milky and sweet with a perfect texture, he’s falls in love even harder
Favorite flavor is malai, simplicity and richness is his favorite
“I absolutely adore you.”

Theory about the MILGRAM prison
(working on this when I'm supposed to be studying for my psychology exam lol)
(i count this as studying for my a-levels, sue me)
Trigger Warning: WWII Germany mention, war crimes mention
One of the questions I keep coming back to is why the prison and the project is called Milgram. The experiment that Stanley Milgram was famous for, his obedience experiment, had more to do with the study of the banality of evil (that was partly his motivation to perform the experiment in the first place) and human obedience for an authority figure than criminal behaviour. What he studied was the willingness of people to obey instructions, even when doing inhumane acts such as administering increasingly lethal shocks to someone who failed a question in a word quiz. This was actually in attempt to investigate whether N@zi Germans in concentration camps/prisons/whatever and such were pure evil or just following orders because they're 'more obedient than other races of people'. He and his colleagues wanted to explain the inhumane acts done during the holocaust, basically, inspired by the criminal trial of Adolf Eichmann (i think thats the name?) about 3 months before the experiment was conducted. Of course, with a bias for Americans.
He and his colleagues predicted that less than 3% of participants would actually administer up to 450 volts to the learner (who was a confederate, i.e. fake. the initial information that participants received was that they were there to help with a psychology experiment on memory:
Tumblr media
they would then stage a chance drawing of who would be the 'teacher' (the participant) and the 'learner' (the confederate). the participant was always the teacher. they were then separated so the participant can hear the learner, but can't see them. they were given instructions to administer shocks to the learner if they got the wrong answer, which was made to be frequent-ish. it starts of at 15, then 30, then alll the way up to 450 volts. The shocks were fake, but it would sound like, to the participant, that the learner in the other room was actually experiencing electrical shocks. Re-creation of the study later on used a standardised recording of the learner responding to the fake shocks, then silence, as if to indicate that the learner has passed out.)
Actual results? Every single participant in the baseline procedure administered up to 300 volts. 65% of participants continued up to 450 volts.
The results may be affected by the scientist in the room, which, when faced with apprehension or unwillingness by the participant to continue, will say the following things:
Tumblr media
Theoretically, participants should feel free to stop and withdraw from the experiment at any time. Reality? the prompts above literally pressured into continuing to increase the voltage, regardless of if they said they wanted to withdraw. Imagine:
"I- I don't feel comfortable doing this. This is wrong." "Please continue." "But- this is wrong! He's hurt, will he be okay?" "The experiment requires that you continue."
(disclaimer: dialogue is fake, i made it up from watching documentaries and recordings(?) of future attempts to reconduct the study. (i.e. based on what the teacher made me watch in class lol))
And so on and so forth. A lot of participants' attempts to withdraw were met with a sound 'no'. I'd say that going through the experiment itself is traumatic all by itself.
So what does this mean for the Milgram Project?
Honestly, I can only guess that, in a way, it shows how willing most of us are to go along with this extremely inhumane premise. Imagine that the prisoners are real people - well this kind of experiment would get absolutely blasted by any ethics board, and the prisoners would be subject to the Japanese criminal justice system and all that. But imagine somehow passed ethics boards and such. And, instead of the judge being internet people who can discuss and judge freely, it is people who are physically there to be the judge, jury and executioner. The information and experience will be repeated for every participant, every fan of the project. The chances of those of us who will call this kind of prison out drastically decreases, for various reasons. Some of Milgram's participants said that their willingness to go along with the study was because they thought the whole thing was 'play-acting'.
And this scenario is exactly what Es is subjected to. They only know to follow the rules of Milgram, because like the participants in Milgram's obedience study, they can't withdraw. They can't get out. They can only complete the objective they were given, because that's the only way this experiment would end. Jackalope is the scientist in the room in this analogy: they keep Es obedient, keep Es from questioning.
And, like the 'learner' in the original experiment, the prisoners are there to distract us and Es from the true aim of the experiment: to what end will we be jackalope's little obedient doll?
then again, I can be completely wrong. I got distracted from studying. (this counts as studying right????)

A german journalist and activist published the internal language directives that publicly funded channel ARD (runs Tagesschau, one of the most popular news media outlets in the country) has been sending out to its employees since 10/7:
When talking about the plight of civilians, it must "always be stressed that Israel is attacking military targets" in Gaza. The phrasing suggests that civilian deaths should be framed as resulting from Hamas using civilians as human shields rather than Israeli military strategy. Once the focus inevitably shifts to the suffering of civilians in Gaza, it must never be forgotten "that Hamas started this conflict".
The directives also instruct journalists not to give attacks on Gaza the same moral weight as attacks on Israel: the bombing of Gaza must always be referred to as a "counteroffensive", the conflict itself as either "terror attacks on Israel" or "the war against Israel".
This certainly explains the coverage the topic has been receiving and the way Israeli propaganda has been allowed to spread so uncritically through german media outlets, because even if someone wanted to offer a different perspective there is not much wriggle room left. This is so shockingly devoid of all human empathy and journalistic integrity lol I truly hope someone has resign over this

may I ask…you to go on about crocodile’s dentist office?? omg, oral surgeon crocodile?!? wisdom tooth removal?! screaming
Haaaa, yes you may 😳 Thing is, I don't write him without the hook/prosthetic hand - and that is tricky in that field. I personally know someone who suffered an amputation injury (idk if that's the correct translation, in German it's Amputationsverletzung, so simple lol) of two distal phalanges of the left hand and he can't practice anymore. He works for a dental implant company instead - that's why I mentioned Crocodile as a sort-of businessman in the tags of that Doffy/Law dentist shitpost. But....
tags: crack treated seriously, suspend your disbelief bc we're turning baroque works into a fucking dental mill in this jdfksjsk, using the german system bc it's all i know (regarding specialist training etc)
Tumblr media
He's a little... difficult. He may not be able to practice anymore but he didn't stomp this office out of the ground only to hand it to some greenhorn surgeon with a fresh-off-the-press certificate - after all, he still has the license. He still has that knowledge and experience - and he knows how valuable all of that is. No, he's smart about it: hires a capable team of dentists, oral and oms surgeons - and retains the status of 'boss', expands what he already has and pretty much doubles down on work, only this time around it's more behind the scenes. Oversees procedures, advises his employees, does a whole lot of paperwork (and tax evasion), keeps the place extremely well-running and profitable. His business strategy is to cover all dental fields with his operation, so people can have a one-stop shop for everything they could ever get done... orally. Robin is the newest addition to his little roundelay - she's an oral surgeon, yes, but she has just finished her training. She has learned an awful lot during those four years of postgraduate training, but she still lacks a lot of finesse that comes with age and experience. She's one Crocodile's top-earners and he hovers an awful lot - guiding her, monitoring her surgeries, trying to help her get better - and most importantly, faster. (If you were to ask Robin - it's almost stifling but she appreciates the effort) So when you come in, an uncomfortable case of denitio difficilis with one of your lower wisdom teeth terribly close to the inferior alveolar nerve, of course he'll hold his head right into your mouth next to Robin's. He's intimdating, that's for sure - you had expected the very clinical young woman with the prim hair and cool smile coming in on her own. But there he is, right next to her: taller than average, tired but observant eyes, dressed entirely in white scrubs, with a tilt of his head that just screams 'in charge'. One look at him and you just know he doesn't joke around. You can't glean if his presence means good or bad news - and you don't care, you're in too much pain. In the end, he does very little - him and Robin lord over you from up above, that clinical light shining around their heads like a halo while you sweat and cramp and shake on the chair, the bitter taste of anesthesia on your tongue and the cracking of your own bone in your ears. He mutters instructions to her while she performs a coronectomy on you, holds your tongue to the side with the surgical hook, tells you to 'open' and not much more. It isn't easy - the anesthesia doesn't work well due to the inflammation in the area and the pain mixed with your own anxiety has you crying fat tears while the two labor - but you somehow survive it. Robin delicately weaves her stitches into your flesh and crinkles her eyes at your perseverance, just a tad out of breath. Crocodile leaves the second she's tied her last knot, not even telling you goodbye - you pay him no mind, you're just glad you're finally done with this torture. All that's left is to get the time slot for a follow-up appointment. You shuffle back to the front desk, to the skittish man sitting behind a computer, and slur out your request, tongue still numb and jaw sore. He pulls up your digital file - and almost falls off his chair. You don't quite understand what the ruckus is all about until he tells you you're no longer Robin's patient, at least not when it comes to consultations, that you'll be seeing the boss himself next time around. (And a few days later you get to brave the presence of Crocodile all on your own while he takes a long and proper look at the state of your wound.)

Asteroids Related to the Mind, Body, and Soul - A Different Perspective of Your Self in Your Birth Chart
We all know the placements of our major planets and points and what aspects they make. But there are a few asteroids that may reflect your being in a way you hadn't seen before. Maybe you felt there was a layer missing from your astrological profile. Add these asteroids to see…
13954, 55555, 11051, 3349, 16, 2815, 23437, 390, 37452, 1488
Tumblr media
Born 13954
Named after Max Born, a German-Jewish physicist and mathematician
Can be read as born, as in birth
Could give context to where and how you were born, circumstances around your birth
I have mine conjunct North Node in Libra in the 3rd house. I have a feeling this is not so much about my own birth as it is about me having children. I think this only because there are a lot of other markers in my chart related to children and marriage.
DNA 55555
Named after DNA, our genetic instructions
Astrologically, could refer to your family, genetic traits, or anything that is passed down from one generation to the next
I have mine conjunct the Arabic lot for grandparents [ASC+Jupiter-House 2nd] in Sagittarius in 4th House. My grandmother’s Sun sign is in Sagittarius, and even though we don't know my grandfather's exact birthdate, it is either in Sagittarius or Capricorn. The 4th house has to do with the home, family, mother, etc., which matches since they are my maternal grandparents.
Racine 11051
Named after Jean Racine, a French author from the 1600s
Racine means root or origin in French
Could refer to genealogical roots, your home, ethnic origins, or anything that gives you feel a sense of familiarity
Mine is trine Patria 1347 (and Jupiter) and semi-sextile Saturn. Patria means native country or homeland. Saturn typically refers to male authority figures and fathers. I have always been interested in my family history and I ask my dad about it ALL THE TIME.
Tumblr media
[Your First and/or Last Name asteroid]
My last name asteroid is conjunct Nobel 6032. I wish! haha
Manas 3349
Named after Epic of Manas, a Kyrgyz epic poem
Can be read as manas meaning the mind that makes us different from animals in Sanskrit
Mine is quintile Soma 2815 (further down). An interesting connection between mind and body…It is also trine my Mercury and Uranus, planets associated with the mind, thought, and intellect.
Psyche 16
Named after Psyche, the Greek goddess of the soul
Psyche refers to the human soul, mind, or spirit
Mine is trine Moon (Aquarius), sextile Venus (Aries), sextile POF (Leo), sextile Aura (Aries). These are mostly feminine planets, but all my feminine planets are in masculine signs. A mix between feminine and masculine ways of being? I'm overall a very feminine person, but emotionally, I process things in a more traditionally masculine way.
Tumblr media
Soma 2815
Named after Soma cube, a puzzle invented by Piet Hein, which in turn was named after the drug called soma featured in Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Soma is also a word meaning the body of an organism
Mine is conjunct Alma 390 in Pisces in the 8th House. Although I am very Aquarian, I do have my Aquarius Sun very close to Pisces and my Mars is also in Pisces. These two planets are prominent and strong in my natal chart. Even if I am very Aquarian, I can see an underlying Pisces nature in me, supported by this Soma-Alma conjunction.
Sima 23437
Unknown name origin; discovered by Czech astronomer, Antonín Mrkos
Could have been named after Josef Šíma, a Czech modernist painter, but this is just my own guess. Please don’t quote me on this.
Sima means face and implies a beautiful face in Iranian and Turkish languages.
The only one out of the lot to aspect my ascendant but it’s a minor aspect (semi-square). 😕 Hopefully, this means something good about my face lol 😏
Tumblr media
Alma 390
Named after the Alma River in the Crimean Mountains
Alma is a popular name meaning apple in Crimean Tatar and in many other languages
But can also be read as alma meaning spirit and soul in Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, and kindness in Latin
As mentioned earlier, conjunct Soma.
Spirit 37452
Named after Spirit, the Mars Exploration Rover
Can be read as spirit meaning our soul and the intangible parts of ourselves
My Spirit is in Scorpio in the 3rd house trine Sun and Mars, both of which are prominent in my chart. Also, square Mercury, Uranus, and Neptune, another prominent configuration in my chart.
Aura 1488
Named after Aura River in Finland
Can be read as aura meaning the energy we give off and that surrounds us
Conjunct Venus in Aries 8th house, square Jupiter, quintile Neptune, and trine POF. Glad these planets are seen as fortunate and/or expansive. 😮‍💨 Do I give off a more happy-go-lucky vibe in person? 🤔
Tumblr media
NOTE: These asteroids can be interpreted in many different ways just like planets. If it doesn’t “make sense” to you, maybe the asteroid is supposed to be interpreted in a different way in your chart.
If one or more of these asteroids are prominent in your natal chart, it can affect synastry with another person too. For example, I have Alma conjunct Soma conjunct my Saturn in Pisces in the 8th House. Someone else with their personal planets in Pisces (especially in the same degree) might leave a greater impression on me or affect me deeply. Anything touching my Saturn will most likely also touch my Alma-Soma conjunction.
Real-life example: I just discovered an artist that I REALLY like. Been listening to their music on repeat every day, no breaks. It's getting insane 🥲😂 He has so many personal planets in Pisces and conjunct my Alma-Soma conjunction too. Not to mention there's also an Eros trine Psyche synastric aspect.
Tumblr media
Let me know what aspects and placements you guys find with these asteroids ☄️

crafting asks: 5, 6, 11!
5. anything you have made that you hated?
I once knitted a sleeveless cardigan out of leftover yarn of several colours with large seed stitch diamonds that just turned out super disappointing. It took forever, was boring to knit, and when finished was a little bit too small for me. I ended up donating it.
6. anything you made that you loved?
Tumblr media
I love most of the things I've made, so I took a picture of some hightlights.
The first thing I knit (apart from some practice squares that are lost to time), at age 16-17 (it took that long lol), was a 3 meter 4th doctor scarf. I would even work on it between classes at school. You can see where I started, because there's a bunch of dropped stitches there, and one botched colour change, and on the other end my knitting had become so much more even. I couldn't get all the colours from the same brand, so I went to different shops and bought all kinds of different yarns - that's why the edge is so wobbly, there's a lot of different weights!
It looks decent and it taught me so much, I'll always cherish it for that reason, though I rarely wear it anymore because it's impractical.
The sweater is from 2021. Kind of a 10 years of knitting anniversary! It's pure wool (A sheep and alpaca blend if I recall correctly) and very warm. I don't love the cold, but I love that I can wear this sweater when it's cold! It's part of why I often have to turn up the heat a bit for guests in winter... I used a standard drops sweater pattern for the shape of the sweater, and came up with the colour pattern myself. The collar is kinda improvised, but I like how it turned out. I love working with colours, thought recently I have been branching out into doing more with cables too. I calculate how many stitches I have, figure out whether I can divide that by something like 16 or 20, and then draw out patterns until I find something I like on 5 mm paper.
I carved the symbol into the prayer bench when I volunteered in Taizé, a religious community in France which organizes retreats for particularly young people. It's my rendition of the orange origami boat, the symbol of the German pro-refugee movement (I don't think it's used as much anymore). Before I was in Taizé, I volunteered in a women's center for refugees in Greece for half a year. Nowadays my pro-refugee activities mostly consists of donating. If you want to help, considering donating to action for women, offene arme, equal rights beyond borders if you want to support the small organizations whom I have personally seen doing amazing work, or doctors without borders if you prefer an org with a wider scope who also does great work there.
The potholders are the first and so far only thing I quilted- they are completely hand-quilted from thrifted fabrics, and I love how they turned out. I now have a sewing machine, and yesterday a friend got it to work, so there's gonna be a lot of quilting in my future I hope!
The shirt is bought, but I embroidered the flowers with perl cotton. I had done some cross-stitch before, but this was the firs time I did this kind of embroidery. I based the flowers on the drawings of the herbs in pathologic 2, and used some instructional videos on youtube to figure out how to stitch them.
11. best thing about [your craft] is?
I mostly knit, but what I like in any craft is to make things that are are both pretty and can be used. And I can make exactly what I want! Of course, with literally *all* of these, there are things that could be improved. With everything I make, I reflect on what I made before, and change how I do it. But while everything I make is flawed, it's already great for just existing. It's fun to make things, and it's fun to use things I have made. The options are endless.

tell a story sfw w our fav metalhead? where Eddie's gf speaks like 5 languages (english, german, tamil, italian, bengali OR you choose) and Steve's children are just constantly in awe lol
I used google bc I’m not fluent in any other language besides English 🥲 so if any of this is wrong or misinterpreted i apologize!!
Eddie had you sat on his lap inside the hellfire club room. He enjoyed watching you watch him do his little thing with the kids. Dustin,Mike,Lucas.Erica, and even El & Max came to watch. You relaxed down into his chest as he instructed them on the campaign. Dustin made a roll and Gareth mumbled something in Spanish making the crew look at him confused. “What? Dustin questioned” “nothing” he replied and you sat up “he called you a cabrón” Dustin looked confused and you sighed “it means dumbass” “oh! Woah rude dude” Gareth shot you a look and you smiled.
“What other languages can you speak?” Max asked intrigued now “Uhm well, Spanish,English obviously,German,Italian and a little bit of Dutch”. the kids just looked at you in awe and you looked over and Eddie who was smiling like he was a proud boyfriend. “Shouldn’t we get back to the game?” Jeff questioned but the kids were more interested in hearing you.
“How do you say hello?” You smiled at el and thought for a minute “well hola, hallo for both Dutch and German and then ciao for Italian” El smiled and then Lucas was asking “how do you cuss in Italian?” You laughed at the boy “Figlio di puttana means son of a bitch” “cool!” He exclaimed “I’m using it” he added and you smiled softly at him looking back at eddie scared you were interrupting them.
“How do you say I love you in Spanish?” Max asked and before you could speak eddie answered first. “te quiero” he said it while staring right at you and you blushed immediately looking away “how’d you know that?” Mike questioned and Eddie smiled “I just listen okay? Back to y’all getting your asses kicked” you smiled and they continued about with their game.

thanks for posting about busuu! I stopped using duolingo a while back but never really succeeded in switching to anything else, so I've just ended up having stopped practicing consistently.
are you using the free version? if so, are you finding that that offers a useful breadth & depth of lessons?
I am using the free browser based version! I took a placement test when I signed up and they started me at the top of their intermediate-level lessons. the subject material so far has been almost exclusively travel/lifestyle oriented, discussing vacation plans and dietary requirements and such. but I go at a slow pace so I’m assuming there will be more variety further on. what I’m finding useful so far is the greater level of immersion than duolingo offered – it gives you larger and denser chunks of both text and speech on average, which personally helps prompt my brain to think more “in german” rather than consciously translating back and forth from english. (having german instructions for each task is also a big plus for this.) and they definitely go in depth with grammar explanations whereas duolingo was just like “figure it out from context lol.”
I haven’t run into this yet but another commenter on my post mentioned a benefit of having fluent human users give feedback on your short answers which is that you get exposure to colloquialisms and turns of phrase that traditional language lessons generally don’t/can’t offer! another benefit of the short answers is they’re open ended and challenge you to express original thoughts instead of just regurgitating vocabulary words to fill in a given sentence, which is something I struggle with.

I'm back working from work and it's been slow so I made a Thing! Technically two things...
Tumblr media
My office gets really really drafty and my hands are icy by the time lunch hits so I figured I'd make myself some fingerless gloves! Then I had to scrap the original pattern I picked because it turns out I don't have any needles below 3.5mm... It was a sad day but my Xmas wishlist gained a new item :D
Anyways, until now I've only known how to regularly cadt on, knit, purl, M1L (but I had No clue what it was called), K2T, a very basic cast on for button holes, and yarn over.
Doing this pattern, I learned how to do a German Twisted Cast-on, M1R (and the difference between it and M1L), the backward-loop cast-on and the P2T bind off.
-> Fun fact: Did you know that the M1L and M1R instructions are VERY different for lefties? (Like following the M1R for righties gives you a M1L for lefties and visa versa!) I didn't the first time around :D Thank you left-handed knitting youtube for helping me with that one!
Anyways I know the tension was all screwy for the bottom cuff on the right but it was my first one and I really think the yarn just quit trying after I frogged it so many times lol
I had am absolute blast though, and my hands will thank me on Wednesday when I'm back to it :3 (Also my daughter demanded requested a pair so I guess I'm gonna be hitting up the thrift store for more DK yarn :3)

So my doctor prescribed me this medicine, it’s like a white powder that you had to mix with water. Somewhat new ig, from Bulgaria. I looked at the instructions, it was written in russian, with a link to a website which had it translated in German. It looked so suspicious lol
The rough translation is:
If you took more of the medicine then you should have, (overdosed) please tell your doctor or visit the nearest hospital. Common symptoms of overdosing with antibiotics from this group are temporary hearing deprivation, strong nausea, vomit and diarrhea.
Not that I don’t trust them, those ‘common symptoms’ just seem kinda extreme. Felt like a true Russian while taking it, like damn i don’t even know what they mean with ‘overdose’. If I take 0.5 ml too much is it an overdose already? But I still live so I must be fine.

like the reason teachers have been allegedly teaching kids to read "wrong" for years is because a) english is one of the hardest languages to learn to read (it takes 3-4 years to gain mastery over basic english texts as opposed to 3 months for languages such as Finnish, Spanish, Italian, and German), and b) lol self proclaimed marxist doesnt even know about the textbook industry... like we pendulum swing every 10 years between phonics based instruction and whole language based instruction because textbook publishers like pearson and benchmark want to make school systems buy their garbage again. lol. also like clearly the answer to this is that learning to read english is not a one size fits all thing like yes phonics is a good method but even IN DIRECT PHONICS INSTRUCTION you need to include aspects of the whole word methodology - this is even in the teacher training for the new phonics based trend, they just call it something else! its not a gross, barbaric, evil sight word that you memorize, its a ❤️heart word❤️ they need to learn by heart ❤️. like lol.

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! #1: “Dads” | February 11, 2007 - 11:45PM | S01E01
February 11th 2007 was a momentous day for Adult Swim. The block had been stacked with premieres towards the end of 2006, putting out obscene amounts of material every Sunday Night. The premieres petered out, then Super Bowl Sunday rolled around and then they really Petered out with a Family Guy marathon (LOL! Great job.). February 11th marked not just a return to premieres, but also the debut of LIVE-ACTION programming. This was the first-ever live-action show to appear on the block.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a huge Tim & Eric fan, and I’ve revisited Awesome Show more than most shows on the block. The main thing I remember about the show is that it was very strong in season one, and became a little more hit-and-miss after that. I think that’s because Tim & Eric realized they had a chance to crank out a lot of material in a short amount of time, and decided to take that chance, which meant that they treated those subsequent seasons less preciously than they did the first. I respect them, and I respect this decision.
Awesome Show was basically the show Tim & Eric should’ve been allowed to make all along. Before Tom Goes to the Mayor, they’d made a lot of short comedy videos. They’d made two “Tom Goes to the Mayor” shorts and it was the closest thing to animation that they had to their name, so that’s what wound up getting pitched to the network. Before Tom Goes to the Mayor they produced a 30 minute sketch comedy pilot (sold on DVD-R from their website TimAndEric.com; I think the show might’ve been titled TimAndEric.com, but it’s not on IMDB so IDK). During Tom Goes to the Mayor they produced a video podcast, but more on that later.
I just remember being so hyped for this show, and excited for live-action on Adult Swim in general. It seemed like if any network was going to take a chance on good sketch comedy again it would be them. And they did! LOOK! We’re covering the first episode of it now! Okay here are the sketches:
The opening sketch is, uh, a weird little stock image slideshow with Eric speaking in subtitled German and announcing an instructional video called “How to Make Love Without Touching”, interrupted by a big scream from their mascot “Chippy”, a hirsute baby whose main purpose is to spook the audience. It’s weirdly unremarkable, and I actually forget about it being the very first sketch every time I watch this. (NOTE TO SELF: A list ranking every first sketch of every sketch comedy show. Good idea?)
The show settles into a formula almost right away. A recurring “hosting” sketch, that’s usually fairly simple. In this episode, Tim gets a gift basket from his dad but it’s actually addressed to Eric. This one simply begins and ends the show. The second part of this sketch is at the end of the episode.
Hacky Sack Extreme is the first “real” sketch, and is presented in a couple parts. This is the first part, where we get cool intro screens introducing C-Boy and Leif. Tim is dressed like a corny cowpoke while Eric is all about the ganja (costing him his first round of hacky sacking). The humor is mostly in how stupid everything looks. The hacky sack is very obviously added in post. The blustery announcer gives seemingly arbitrary points to each contestant while announcing their silly-sounding moves. It will vaguely remind you of either a video game, a bad reality show, and a live-action cartoon all at once.
The first Steve Brule sketch occurs on the Married News segment, which was itself a carryover from Tom Goes to the Mayor. I remember Brule was definitely considered a highlight at the time, and it’s no wonder they spun this guy off into its own thing. Who knew that John C. Reilly would be so goddamned down? According to the commentary, they asked him to be in the show and he basically came up with this character himself, and showed up with cheap glasses and his hair teased out. He called himself Brule because that was the word he and his friends used for how your stomach felt when you drink so much you start getting the shits.
I remember thinking this sketch was a mixed bag. The technical difficulties are portrayed a little too cutesy for my taste, and the weird mugging the news team does just comes off as desperate to me. I could be alone in this, but I think most Married News sketches would highly benefit from them taking it down a notch. I don’t think the characters are bad, I just think they go a little too broad with them sometimes.
Next up is Casey and His Brother, performing a fun song about going into space. This is a nice one. Like the Married News, I also feel like Tim & Eric have a penchant for going too broad with these guys, and I think my favorite version of this might be the Right Way to Rock promo they did for Tom Goes to the Mayor. Casey’s condition is a little more advanced here. Still, this is one of the stronger Casey Awesome Show bits.
This is followed by Hacky Sack Extreme. Look, I get it’s a comedy sketch, but it does bother me that they CARB UP after C-Boy’s round, giving Leif the edge. When Leif wins it should be no surprise. The show was against C-Boy. C-Boy is only capable of taking it out on himself, with a great ending bit where he looks forlorn at the beach. He really is a cousin of Tom Peters.
Then there’s a short Brule’s Rules, where he just tells you to stop and roll if you catch on fire. That’s actually pretty useful, thanks.
The Old Waiting Room sketch was created because they originally had a cartoon starring Gibbons and Friendy, which was mentioned on the DVD commentary for Tom Goes to the Mayor as a potential spin-off. Well, it didn't’ even sustain an entire sketch, as it turns out. This bit is briefly seen on a TV screen in, I believe, the very next episode. I seem to remember viewing the entire sketch at one point but I don’t think it’s on the season one DVD, unless I missed it. I could have.
Anyway, this sketch is just Tim & Eric horsing around senselessly at 3 in the morning, filmed in the halls of Abso Lutely studios. It was created specifically to fill the void that Gibbons and Friendy left behind. It’s a genuinely dumb bit, but it does capture the freewheeling giddiness that makes Tim & Eric so goddamn charming. It seems to have given birth to the “Great Job” bit, where a particularly stupid moment in the show gets freeze-framed, turns black & white, and the words “great job” are drawn in the corner, with Bob dryly saying “great job” in voice over.
B’Owl was a sketch originally written by Doug Lussenhopp, but it had a completely different premise. The only thing Tim & Eric liked about the sketch was the term “B’Owl”, so they turned it into a toy commercial instead. What follows are some cheeky jokes where two little girls announce things like “My B’Owl is so pretty”. I’m not sure if my brain was more poisoned then or now, but the fact that they were dragged by PizzaGate believers for stuff like this is difficult to push away. For the record: I do not think Tim & Eric meant anything other than to be amusing with this sketch, and it’s a goddamn shame that they attracted this kind of attention for it.
B’Owl is funny, and has a lot of great Tim & Eric touches, like the weird shot of B’Owl being “for boys”, which includes this weak-chinned boy hanging out by a brick wall while a police siren flashes over him. He’s dressed like a tough guy, and gives this big stupid smile to the camera. The end of the sketch has Bob giving a huge list of things you can do with B’Owl, the last of which is “throwing away”, demonstrated on camera with a smug nod. This part of the sketch was a bob contribution, and seems like it might have been birthed in the recording studio. It’s hilarious.
The last notable sketch is a prank phone call, which Tim & Eric did more of on their website back in the day. It’s one of the things that seems to have gone by the wayside with them, and who could blame them? Prank phone calls are a young man’s game, unless you’re Longmont Potion Castle (the king of them all, and still going strong), and even he had a brief moment where he saw fit to throw in the towel, probably for the same reason.
The prank doesn’t really seem to deceive anyone, it’s just a very dumb premise being explained to a man on the phone who seems to be humoring Tim. Tim wants to paint “Happy Birthday Spray, I’m disappointed in you” in honey on his wall so that bees will swarm it, spelling the phrase out in bees, to teach his son a lesson (for getting bad grades). This has a great moment when Tim tells the man on the phone that his son’s full name is “Spraynard Kruger” and it cuts to the stock photo man frowning.
The last bit of the show is Tim trying to prove once and for all that his father is actually proud of him, by bringing him on. Eric sees through the ruse immediately and calls him out for bringing on an imposter. This imposter is Richard Dunn, a maladroit elderly actor who clumsily recites his lines in a beautifully hilarious way. He was first glimpsed in the promos for the show, where they feed him his line, and he goes up on it, just muttering the words “Great Job”.
Speaking of the promos, I remember the first “sneak peek” for this show was comprised of the first Hacky Sack Extreme segment, followed by “B’Owl”, so when that first Hacky Sack Extreme sketch ends I still anticipate B’Owl to come right after it. I’m not like, pissed off about it, or anything, I just thought it was an exceptional trailer and made me even more excited for this show. It truly was a great job.
EPHEMERA CORNER

Tim and Eric: The Podcast (2006)
I can’t remember if I “missed” this when it came to writing EPHEMERA CORNER, or if I decided against including it as ephemera. I think that non Adult-Swim-produced Tim & Eric stuff is a slippery slope. I think I’m also pained by the fact that at one point I had a pretty respectable archive of old Tim & Eric vids that I painstakingly tried to put in chronological order. Like a lot of obsessive projects that I felt weren’t complete enough to share (or was simply too embarrassed to show how much time I waste on stuff like this), they wound up getting swallowed by a dying computer. They might actually still exist on a hard drive that might still work, but I’ve yet to get my shit together to the extent that I would know for sure. Sad!
Tim and Eric: The Podcast was actually a fairly significant step towards Awesome Show. It was basically like a cheaper version of Awesome Show. I don’t remember if it was compiled from older stuff; I could have sworn Billy Williams was a standalone video from before Tom Goes to the Mayor even. They are worth a watch if you haven’t seen them. I am (thanks to my wife who actually bought it back then and decided was too big for her) the proud owner of a Billy Williams T-shirt. It still gets worn.
MAIL BAG
You forgot Boat Show!
I DID NOT! For some reason, that post was flagged for being too “adult”. I’ve contested it and hopefully it becomes more visible, because I read the guidelines for what constitutes an “adult” post and I don’t think my write-up actually qualifies. But we’ll see, I guess.

Happy astromonday!!
For the last in the Mars asks, I have a story about the earliest picture from Mars' surface. This was taken in July 1965 by Mariner 4.
Tumblr media
Mariner 4 was an orbiter, it didn't land on Mars, but in 1965 it sent back the first digital images from Mars. Sent over 8 hours to the NASA computers, it comprised of 240,000 numbers, bits of binary code, to make up the 40,000 patches of colour on its surface.
When the code was received back on Earth, the picture was likely to take a while to develop. But the scientists were too impatient to wait. So they printed all the numbers onto long, narrow strips of paper, stuck them to a wall in order, and coloured in each number using a paint-by-numbers method. This eventually created a piece of art you can see with today's ask, a replica of a picture taken from the surface of Mars!!
It really struck me again the love people have had for space and for Mars throughout history. This was 40,000 numbers that were coloured by hand, and how beautiful is the image!!
This week I have a question for you!! Tell me about something you've loved creating or taking part in. This can be art, writing, music, a project, or something else entirely.
I hope you've liked this little series on Mars, have a fantastic day!! 🪐
Happy astromonday guess who had to come back to the office bc she realized at home that she left her canvas bag in her chair, like a dumbass? 🤦‍♀️
I love that story so much 🥰
Things I've loved creating under the cut bc I got sentimental and it turned kind of long lol
In uni we had to make a self portrait short film talking about ourselves. I, of course, waited for the absolute last minute to film mine because I have no understanding of time management (and I was also editing a tv pilot that literally took all of the time me and my friends had back then bc that thing was worth about half of our grade) so I spent an entire weekend rolling w a suitcase through all of my favorite parts of Madrid w the help of one of my cousins and a friend, changing at various bathrooms so I could have different outfits (brought in said suitcase) so it didn't look like I filmed it all in two days, I took inspiration on one of my favorite poems (the artist creed of Aquiles Nazoa) for the monologue and in the video of Vanessa Hudgens in Lisbon for find your California for the imagery. It works both as a self portrait and a love letter to the city and the people that took that weekend to help me (either by filming me or helping with the suitcase or to make sure random passerbys didn't fuck up a take). It was Eurovision weekend and we ended filming by getting drunk at the flat of my friend watching the last few performances.
A sentimental thing but I cajoled about 15 cousins, a very shy brother, two German exchange sisters and an uncle with a 4yo into participating in a mother's day video. Decided literally two days before mother's day, i have family living currently in six countries. And absolutely no one knows how to follow instructions. But it did succeed in making all of the aunts (and my mother) happy. My grandma didn't remember the video when i asked her about it (but apparently when somebody else did when she was a little more lucid she was pretty sure it had to be the idea of one of my eldest cousins🤣) but the wife of my grandpa (who i never called my grandmother but I was closer to than my grandma) did cry bc I made a point to name her in my part of the video. I spent an entire night editing three versions (one for my dad's side of the family, one for my mother's and one in particular for my mom that was my brother, our German sisters and me).
Glitteraks and the drag race Spain reference posts. I am actually kind of shy online lol so the glitterasks were my attempt at both keeping the Sunday horrors at bay for me and the few-ish people I talked to here when i stopped being deadly afraid of talking to people and make some new friends. Mostly I am proud of being able to keep it up for a year. It was a total of about... 60 questions? If I'm not mistaken? And at it's busiest I think the list got to be 85 people. The reference posts are included there because they were very self indulgent, i can admit to that, but new episodes come on Sundays too so I spent a few Sundays nursing migraines of my own making for spending entire days staring at screens between glitteraks, episode watching and reference post making, because my mental deadline for said posts was Monday evening and I do have a job 🤣 despite what the chronically online behavior might suggest
How about you, Juno? What are some of the things you're proudest of creating or being a part of?😊

i want cross region play to work for this game so bad but this is exactly why there is a huge backlash against it because the NA players cannot be normal lol
i know there's some really lovely people over there i'm sure but holy shit the absolute refusal to READ INSTRUCTIONS is mind boggling to me because those of us on JP & EU dcs are used to playing with multiple language barriers. on my server alone there are people who speak english, chinese, japanese, korean, indonesian, filipino the most out of languages, on EU you get people who are german, french, russian, spanish, italian etc and we all manage to communicate fine even when we don't speak the same language. google translate/deepl is your friend when in-game translation doesn't work. people don't care if your poor google translate isn't the best, they appreciate the effort you made to try communicate.
NA all speaking english and they can't fucking read, it's amazing

January 8th, 2024
I normally have a really hard time letting people cook for or with me.
This is because (1) I really enjoy cooking and I've been making 99% of my own meals since I was 9, so I just kinda go into a flow state. Often times it takes more effort for me to figure out tasks for other people to do than to just do them myself. That's also why I really love cooking massive, multiple-course meals for things like holidays. It's like a puzzle trying to complete all the steps for all the recipes at all the right times so the food is done when you need it to be, it reminds me of swimming where my mind is so full on the task that there isn't any room for any other thoughts. When I cook, my brain goes as quiet as when I take my (legally prescribed!) meth. (2) I have a really hard time accepting gifts/having people do things for me. This is a huge trap because I love gifts and having people do things, but I have to be tricked into it. I have to either not know until the very last moment or have 0 choice in the matter.
So, my boyfriend (who I've decided I will now start referring to as 'T' here) spent the night and told me he had a little day planned for us. This day included him planning and stressing a little too much over where/what we were going to have for breakfast. He liked my idea of french toast but then he started talking about who would have to go and get the ingredients, and how long it would take etc. etc., jokes on him I planned ahead and already had all of the ingredients.
Now, french toast is something that I have known how to make since I was really little. The woman who was a second mother to me would stand me up on a stool so I could help whisk the batter when I would have it for breakfast. I've made it hundreds of times, whereas T never has.
However, however, roughly 2ish months ago one of my roommates saw my dice and asked if I would teach her to play DnD. Long story short, I am now dming my first ever campaign with 100% new players including 4 of my roommates (the Australians, the Italian, and the other German-American) and the Australian's coworker the French.
I didn't think we'd get to play over break with all the different time zones, but we found one that would work. This meant starting bright and early for me specifically, and that I didn't have time to be any more of a control freak about breakfast besides hastily scrawling some instructions on a torn bit of paper for T.
The session was really fun despite me being underprepared (whoops lol), although I need to start enacting some consequences on Authentic Australian's halfling character because at a certain point, he physically cannot carry this much treasure. I also need to find a way to give Italian a win, because she just has absolutely horrible luck with dice rolls and I can tell she's not as engaged.
T and I shared the french toast after the game finished, and it was really good. One of the things I love about him is how good he is at making connections in his head. It creates the illusion that he's naturally good at most things he tries, but I know that the work is just happening at a faster speed than most people. After breakfast, we got ready to go see a movie. T has been wanting to see The Boy and the Heron for such a long time, and in particular, he was excited to see it with me.
He really, really loves anime and pretty much refuses to watch most live-action tv shows. This is a shame because most of my favorite tv shows are live-action and I don't really like anime. The one exception is Studio Ghibli. My parents would put on their movies in between episodes of Biene Maja (absolute banger) and recordings of Disney Channel (a glimpse into the lives of Real Americans) to placate me on long trips.
Growing up in Tokyo, my favourite thing was that you can turn a street corner from the most artificial place on the planet to a sacred bubble of nature. Watching Ghibli makes me feel like I'm sitting in the abandoned lot near our apartment that had become reclaimed with tall grass and wildflowers. It reminds me to look for the shrines on the side of the road.
He bought the tickets, I bought the popcorn. The theater was empty except for us. That night, I made roasted sweet potato and chickpea bowls with black rice, crispy kale, and hummus.
