The Andagii Weekly - 3.18.2019
I’ve always been notoriously bad at sticking to schedules, so as I start drafting The Guidefire Heir, I want to make weekly journals a habit too. That way, you guys will always be hearing from me at some normal interval, without waiting for me to upload Sunset Stars. Monday evenings are apparently the best times for me to sit and reflect, so I’m kickstarting this habit today.
Today’s Topics: The Guidefire Heir Within the Hearts of Sunset Stars Andagii Reads General Life
The Guidefire Heir
I started writing it! Sure, I did do a lot of prepwork before I actually sat down and wrote, but they were all necessary parts to the whole project. I sketched maps and tracked Cian’s journey across his world. I worked and re-worked his design, as well as his mother’s and father’s, until I had some sketches I was satisfied with. I wrote some drabbles regarding both Cian’s family and the greater picture.
I even made a moodboard for Cian. It’s sitting in my Drafts.
I’m also considering doing an introductory post about the world of Guidefire Heir - just enough to illustrate Cian’s standing in the place without revealing much more. Maybe I’ll post that before I do the moodboard?
Within the Hearts of Sunset Stars
As of this post, I’m in the middle of Chapter 2.
Sunset Stars has been slow-moving, mostly because I’m realizing I don’t know Levy Luce as well as I thought I did. It’s one thing to take notes and outline the plot--I know how I want the story to proceed, how I want the characters to react, but is that their free will? Writing OC-centric fics calls for, I think, a lot of free-flow.
I haven’t given Levy the chance to flow on his own.
That’s a huge problem, because it means I defined him with a trope and then failed to follow through. Now, as I write the actual fic, I have to put in that extra work of letting him figure himself out. That becomes exposition and fluff within the narrative, meaning a lot of content I’m going to have edit out before I start uploading.
I know where it comes from too. I keep getting in my own way. I’m afraid of writing something below the standard of A Drop Echoes. That’s why Changing Breaths was so difficult. That’s why putting pen to paper for Guidefire Heir makes me shaky and sweaty. Writer’s anxiety? This is my first time dealing with it...
Andagii Reads
I actually have a page on Tumblr dedicated to listing the books I read throughout the year. It’s...well... a work in progress, considering how little I’ve been reading recently. I’m hoping to use this segment of the weeklies to make myself more accountable for reading.
I picked up and started The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I’ve never felt my laughter go as dry as the humor within the book, which is all irony, all the time. While I read about and studied autism a bit back when I was an incompetent psychology major, it’s a whole different experience to actually see the thought process on paper.
A past professor recommended it to me as a reference for writing children for an adult audience, but... this is reference for something else entirely.
It’s still a good book. I’ll finish it this week.
General Life
I used to have a wordpress for a serial novel I was uploading through my ignorant college years. The story imploded due to its massive scale and my inexperience, but I did get 36 chapters in before I pulled the plug on it. Then, after graduating, I revised and edited and pared it down to its most basic components, ending up with Cascade on deviantART. Links below.
Part 1 | Part 2
Oh, but wordpress. It’s going to be a hassle navigating the interface and getting the blog in working order, but I want to have these weekly updates, as well as progress on Guidefire, on something a little more professional.
Not that I’m leaving Tumblr, oh no. I love my pixel art and writing shitposts. Plus, I’m hoping to meet more of you on here, so I can’t leave.
I’m also trying to dabble in other things, like a gaming YouTube and my gaming blog, visual novels and coding in Ren’py, but I find myself having to stop, slow down, and tell myself,
Take it all one step at a time.
That about does it for today’s update. More Guidefire content coming this week. Sunset Stars update again next week.
Andagii out.
