thinking abt nurse Regulus in a psychiatric ward where James has been a patient for years because of his multiple personality disorder and no one can deal with him because one of the alter identities (the protector role) is very violent with protecting the others and doesn't let the core identity come out as much ever since they entered the ward. and then regulus shows up and every personality in james mind is pushing to come out and meet the new nurse who is first person to show them patience and understanding.

Thinking about early days of the expedition where Crozier is still writing to Ross, missing him, telling him he wishes he was there rather than the two idiots Crozier is stuck with. Thinking about Crozier/Fitzjames hatesex where Crozier is thinking about Ross. And then they get stuck in the pack. No more letters. And Crozier hates Fitzjames even more during those months because he’s given up, his drinking is worse, he fully believes they’re all going to die out there and he’s trying to come to terms with how avoidable it was, with his surety that if Ross had been there this would not be happening.

Then he sobers up, gets his head on straight, realizes he doesn’t want to die out there after all and he is the only one who can do anything about that. And immediately after that, Carnivale, and they walk out and there is this shift in Fitzjames that makes him start to open up, start to leave his protective outer layers behind, his vanity gone, and for the first time this is his James, not the man who refused to accompany Crozier out here in favor of settling down and leaving the Navy behind. James Fitzjames supplants James Ross for the first time, is real to Crozier for the first time. And then he dies.

And then it’s Ross who comes to find Crozier.

Ok now I feel okay to say this but James somertons ofmd analysis was dogshit. How are you doing a queer reading of that show and ignoring class? Like he said Izzy represents just a traumatised person not letting happy queer people be and that he needs to accept stede

And it's like dude, there are clear class tensions herre and opting into piracy rather than being forced is a privilege of th wealthy and a rich person coming into that environment would feel threatening.

This isn't about Izzy the characters actions, or anything like that, but more so how completely ignorant it is to say that optimism/ pessimism and repressed/unrepressed homosexuality are the only things separating stede and Izzy. There's the fucking CLASS of it all. Something CENTRAL or piracy and inescapable in the text and subtext

Can’t fall asleep, thinking about fitzrossier. I am compelled by the idea that Fitzjames can’t readjust to society after they get back and Crozier is kind of at a loss for how to help him since Crozier’s entire naval career has been about getting away from society because he himself does not fit in there. But Ross. Ross survived a failed expedition, too, not only that he had to cope with it being his uncle who led those men to their deaths and the ramifications of that once they made it back to England. I just think about Crozier being like “I don’t know how to help him, please, help me help him” and Ross being like well alright, I’ll do it for you, and then he grows fond of Fitzjames, as well. I want them to have Parallels.
