So I was just told @khoc-week was going on, and I can never resist gushing about my characters when given the opportunity haha. (And if any of these names ever seem familiar to another fandom, it’s because I created them as keykids first and then ported them over to FFXIV as Warriors of Light, because reusing oc avatars across multiple types of media is what I do. Eventually I’m going to settle on my lore for everyone and do a compare and contrast because I think it’d be fun.)
Day 1: Introductions!
So first up, the Party: Light’s Guard
They’re a neutral party of Keykids that don’t hold stock in Union loyalty or this War, they just want to protect the Light and World in general. Their immediate goal in the war is to protect the Dandelions until they leave, and then just help protect anyone who doesn’t want to fight in general as much as possible, as well as the younger Keykids who really shouldn’t be fighting, regardless of Union. Even knowing it’s a futile effort, they put their all into it.
The core members of the Party are my Keykids - Etheria is recruited by Brain a little bit after, but the party was founded by him, Yiskah, and Aella as members of Anguis. Vale, Rosalia, and Solis are all recruited early on. All of them except Brain were offered places amongst the Dandelions and turned it down
The most familiar face: Etheria!
Tumblr media
Age: 9 (arrival), 15 (death at the end of Union X)
Born in Enchanted Dominion, her mother is from a mercenary family who decided to settle down in one general place when she had Etheria. The father was a fae from the Spring Court who had to return to Court when Etheria was young due to Maleficent’s increasing bold attempts to expand her domain. Etheria was raised by her mother until Maleficent attacked when she was nine and killed her mother, drawing Heartless to the area. Etheria awoke to the keyblade when she fell into the Darkness between worlds, awakening in Daybreak Town and being recruited into Unicornis.
She represents the canon Keykid, so her story follows canon pretty closely - with a few twists. When the war is first starting to pick up, before the Dandelions leave, she’s attacked by a group of Leopardis members on the verge of turning Dark. Brain happens to be passing by and stops to help, chasing them off and helping Etheria to a house nearby that’s been converted into a meeting place for a neutral party - calling themselves Light’s Guard. They spend the war trying to protect any neutral wielders or the younger Keykids even as the Darkness spreads around them and they lose members to it.
Etheria clings tight to Light with the determined goal to protect at least the Dandelions even if she’ll never truly be able to protect anyone else. As the war drags on she begins to resent the Union Leaders who led them into this pointless war to begin with, and has an increasingly bitter rivalry with Master Aced, who for some reason seems to have it out for her (he’s noticed that she’s the favorite still remaining of Ira, Gula, and Ava, and Does Not Like Or Trust It).
At the end of the war she’s the only Keykid still alive on the battlefield after the darkness destroyed the World, her heart’s connection to Ephemera, Skuld, and Brain allowing her to cling onto the Light just enough to survive the destruction and acting as the anchor to allow the Dandelion’s Light to recreate the World - even in its broken form. And her heart makes a direct connection to Kingdom Hearts when it’s summoned due to it. In canon this… probably doesn’t mean much beyond perhaps explaining how the Missing Link protag eventually gets their memories back, but I have a couple of AUs where it’s absolutely pivotal to her character throughout the story. Ephemera and Skuld rescue her and wipe her memories but because she’s half-fae it’s imperfect and she gets her memories back much sooner than canon. She just… stays quiet about it because this isn’t the sort of situation she can fix, and it’s easier for everyone if she doesn’t say anything.
Canon plays out similarly, except Candy Crush Game Central Station is wrapped up by her and Ephemera much sooner and they return together for the entirety of the endgame segment. There is much pain involved. Especially since, when she pretends to be possessed, since she has fae magic, she casts a glamour over herself to turn her eyes gold and give her voice a reverb to really sell it. (Ephemera buys it until they start fighting and then he catches on and is devastated that she’s forcing his hand and sacrificing herself to stop the Darknesses). When she traps herself in the pipe with the Darknesses they kill her when they throw their little tantrum about being tricked, though she still dies hugging Chirithy like in canon.
Number 2: Yiskah!
Tumblr media
Age: 18 (Death at the Keyblade Graveyard)
Born in the world of Atlantis, he fell into a Dark portal at 11 attempting to defend the world’s heart against Heartless, awakening to the keyblade and landing in Daybreak Town to be recruited into Anguis. He’s the oldest of the party and has had a very close friendship with Brain for years. He couldn’t bring himself to abandon all of the non-Dandelions to the war and so turned down Ava’s invitation when she offered it. He and Brain created a neutral party as a failsafe to protect the world and Dandelions against the Darkness as much as they were able for as long as they were able.
He was the de facto leader once Brain left, but he, Aella, and Etheria shared a lot of the responsibilities for running things. They protected as many as they could during the war, but he died on the battlefield of the Keyblade Graveyard after the Union Leaders vanished and left the remaining wielders on the battlefield to fall to the Darkness that destroyed the world. In canon he’s probably reborn as a nonentity, but in my main AU verse he’s actually the Missing Link protag because Etheria gets reincarnated as… someone else. No I’m not still annoyed at Nomura’s Xehanort bait and switch reincarnation implication after I’d already started writing out my verse plans. of course not.
Number 3: Aella!
Tumblr media
Age: 16 (Death at the Keyblade Graveyard)
Born into the World of Olympus, she’s the demigod daughter of Athena. She grew up training to eventually be a hero, because her father was a minor noble and hoped for his daughter to eventually gain recognition and raise their family status. This mentality meant that she was killing monsters and solving problems… until she was sent after a monster that turned out to be a Heartless, and her sword or magic couldn’t even touch it. She awakened to the Keyblade, but accidentally opened a pathway to Daybreak Town in the process and decided to stay and join Vulpes to protect the world at large. She quickly befriends a boy who was from the same world as her, a demigod son of Thanatos named Valérios who arrived not long before her. They partied together for a while before she met and befriended Yiskah and Brain. They began to drift apart, and she eventually switched Unions to join Anguis, causing a bit of bitterness and resentment from Vale for the perceived betrayal and abandonment.
The rift seemed to heal when the war broke out and she invited Vale to join their neutral party, but the seeds of Darkness had long been planted and she was his primary target when he fell to Darkness and betrayed them, trying to kill the party and those they protected. Aella barely survived the betrayal, and became closed off and wary after the fact. She became colder and more aggressive when it came to pushing back the Dark bearers and protecting everyone they could, clashing often with Vale when he showed up. They had a final duel at the Keyblade Graveyard which killed them both, even before the Union Leaders vanished and the Darkness consumed everything.
Number 4: Solis!
Tumblr media
Age: 12 (Death at the Keyblade Graveyard)
Solis was born to a Romani woman in La Cité des Cloches, though she was killed by the city guards when he was young. He mostly raised himself, with some help from various members of the Court of Miracles over the years, and grew into a particularly skilled pick pocketer and thief, with a propensity for showmanship when the mood struck him. He proudly claimed that he was on very good terms with Lady Luck - until he had a turn of misfortune when he pushed one of the guards too far and they turned into a Heartless and attacked him, drawing more into the world with their Darkness. He fell into a Dark portal and awoke to the Keyblade between worlds, landing in Daybreak Town and immediately taking to the Leopardis Union. He and Gula get along well.
He’s a bit of a social loner up until the war, making friends with anyone and everyone and jumping from party to party with cheer and friendliness, but he doesn’t really trust easily enough to have real friends. He eventually meets Rosalia, and they get along thick as thieves until the war breaks out and their Unions start turning on each other. They stick together though, and get recruited to the Light’s Guard by Aella when she helps them out of a sticky fight. Solis latches onto the party with a fierce loyalty and determination to rescue as many kids from the war has they can. He’s stung hard when Vale turns on them and tries to kill the kids, but the fact that they entire rest of the party fights back as well puts him a bit at ease.
But they all know it’s a hopeless war, and they can’t really protect anyone.
Solis dies in the Keyblade Graveyard when the Union Leaders vanish and leave the remaining Keykids to the encroaching Darkness, endless Heartless and Darklings picking off the surviving Keykids who all band together in the final moments to hold it back, until the last Lights are consumed.
Number 5: Rosalia!
Tumblr media
Age: 16 (Death at the Keyblade Graveyard)
Rosalia was born of questionable parentage in Tortuga in the world of The Caribbean. She grew up in Tortuga for several years until she stowawayed on an outgoing pirate ship, only revealing herself when they were several days out and it would be more lucrative to put her to work then turn back. The Captain was impressed enough by her determination and audacity that he allowed it, putting her to work maintaining the ship to earn her keep as a crew member. She stayed for several more years until an attack on a merchant vessel went wrong and the Navy showed up to defend them. The ship was sunk and the crew killed, the Darkness drawing Heartless and sending her falling between worlds. She awakens to the keyblade and lands in Daybreak Town, gravitating immediately to Ursus.
She’s fairly easygoing until a fight is picked, and then she gets intense. She’s got lots of friends to party with, being used to working in a large group, but her intensity and power means no one she’s willing to put up with tends to stick around for long so she doesn’t have a steady group. She eventually meets Solis, and they hit it off immediately and tend to stick together more often than not. When the war breaks out and their Unions turn against each other they start distancing themselves from their Unions, eventually being recruited by Aella into the Light’s Guard. Rosalia likes them, and like Solis gets protective of the many kids they pick up. She nearly kills Vale when he turns on them and tries to kill the people they’re protecting, stopped only when he runs away and she’s not willing to leave the others behind to chase after him.
She’s front and center at the final battlefield, tearing her way through any Darklings, Heartless, or semi-dark wielders who get in her way. She aims for the Union leaders, pissed off and betrayed that they set all this up and they all know it, but they’re all so focused on each other and Etheria that she can’t pin them down long enough to actually fight them through the many other wielders. She very nearly falls to Darkness herself when they disappear and she realizes they’ve abandoned them all to Darkness in one final betrayal, and only Solis and Etheria calling for her aid in watching their back pulls her back to clinging to Light.
Not that it matters, when the Heartless kill them all and Darkness consumes everything in the end.
Number 6: Valérios!
Tumblr media
Age: 17 (Death at the Keyblade Graveyard)
Born in the world of Olympus, Valérios grows up a bit of a pariah because of his very obvious status of being a demigod of some sort of Underworld god. He can see and hear whispers of the dead, and he nearly got himself in trouble several times when he was young when he tried to warn people who he saw were close to death. Everyone was a bit scared of him, and he spent more time alone listening to the whispering dead than he did involving himself with the living people around him. He found a Dark portal by chance when he was a bit older and walked willingly into it to find out what would happen. It tried to drown him out, but his Light and wish to help others and become a Hero was still bright enough to awaken his keyblade and guide him to Daybreak Town, where he joined Vulpes to take advantage of the fresh start.
He was still a bit of a loner, cold and kind of off-putting, but he found people to party with despite that. He eventually met Aella, and they bonded over their shared world and its expectations and the wish to become a Hero written into the stars. But time and increasing Darkness and strain of the Unions slowly caused them to drift apart, and Vale was extremely bitter and resentful when Aella left Vulpes to join Anguis and her new friends, his one real friend abandoning him as well. He begins leaning closer and closer to the Dark as the war breaks out and death and Darkness starts drowning everything else out, feeding his feelings of abandonment and betrayal.
It recedes for a time when he’s invited to join Aella’s new party, but he still feels apart, like he’s just extra and everyone else is friends while merely tolerating him. The Dark whispers louder and louder in his head, his thoughts caught into a downward spiral, until some minor incident where he’d separated from the party during a mission causes him to snap and fall. Everything around him is fake, a lie, and if death and Darkness are the beginning and end of everything anyway then he might as well hasten that process. No lie is worth this fake Light, everyone is born and dies alone. He’ll return everyone to that same lonely state he’s been in his whole life.
He attacks the party off an on as the war continues, clashing especially with Aella and Rosalia, until the final battle when he duels Aella one final time and they kill each other even before the Darkness consumes everything.
In the final moments of his life, he’s still not sure if he’s won or lost.

Have a fantasy AU!
It’s got a lot of stories from a lot of hermits. Grian and Pearl are the ones I have most figured out There’s the Celestial Kingdom, the Fairy Kingdom, the Hybrid Union, and the Ordinary Empire
Celestial Kingdom: Led by King Solis and Queen Midnight, this kingdom is based around celestial bodies. Everyone living there has wings, whether moth or bird. The current heir is Pearl Celestial.
Fairy Kingdom: Led by Queen Lizzie and King Joel, the Fairy Kingdom consists of fairies, allays, vexes, and other mythical creature hybrids. King Joel is actually a human, which is rare, and many are angry about it.
Hybrid Union: These people are led by a council of five, and are all hybrids. Any hybrid is accepted into the union.
Ordinary Empire: Normal humans are the only people that live in this empire. All leaders are elected.
Pearl: She's a luna moth hybrid, and is Princess of the Celestial empire, the only heir. The one who was supposed to take the throne, her brother Grian, went missing a year ago. She’s now forced by her parents to be perfect, and hates it. Whenever she can, she visits the Underground Acceptance Club, where everyone is welcome. She has a lot of friends there, Gem, Tango, Etho, Scott, and many others. All she needs to do is make sure her parents don’t find out. 5"11, 22 years old
Grian: He's a sun conure hybrid (it's a type of parakeet). Pressured to be the next ruler of his kingdom, Grian wasn’t very happy. His only friend was a royal advisor named Mumbo, who had an interest in machinery. He met a commoner in the Fairy Kingdom while on a diplomacy mission named Scar, and ended up becoming friends. They often communicated via letter. Mumbo noticed Grian was stressed out with the pressure, so suggested they go meet Scar and possibly run away, all three of them, considering Scar wasn’t happy with his home life either. So they did, settling undercover in the Hybrid Union, and they were marked missing from their home regions. 5"9, 24 years old (Scar is 6 months older and Mumbo is six months older than Scar)
Mumbo: He's a cecropia moth hybrid. Mumbo was trained from a young age to be an advisor and counselor for the prince and princess of the Celestial Kingdom. He had a particular interest in machinery, and wasn't too happy with the fact he would have to deal with royals. All the officials he'd met so far had been snobby. That changed when he met the two he was supposed to advise. Though he was a year older than Prince Grian, they became fast friends. He liked Pearl too, of course, but Grian was a better friend for him. He still didn't like being in the palace though, he liked fancy things, but this was too fancy. Now that Mumbo is with Scar and Grian, away from their kingdoms, he feels a lot better. Mumbo is 6"11 (Tall as heck, basically)
Scar: He's an elf/vex hybrid. He grew up as a commoner in the Fairy Kingdom, and baked cookies for a living. No one really bought those cookies, so his parents would always get mad and tell him to 'find a better job' and such. But he liked making cookies, so that's what he did. He'd never liked his parents much, they were kind of mean, but not exactly horrible people. It was pure chance that he ran into Prince Grian and his advisor Mumbo from the Celestial Kingdom, but he insists it was fate. After the initial meeting, they continued to talk via letters. One day, Mumbo proposed the idea to all run off together, and Scar gladly accepted. All three of them ended up in the Hybrid Union, and have a farming job. He's 25 years old, but only turned 25 recently, and is 6"5
Tango: He's a blaze hybrid. Tango was brought up in the Hybrid Union, taught in school to not trust humans. His parents, however, taught him everyone should be accepted. Generally, Tango had a very good home life and still does. He had only a few friends, Zed the sheep hybrid and Jimmy the canary hybrid being his closest ones. When he was seventeen, he discovered his parents had started an underground club for everyone, hybrids and humans. Here, he met Skizz, an angel from the Celestial Kingdom, and Impulse, a human. Now that he's 23, he works as a mechanic for a system of mail that the Hybrid Union wants to use, accompanied by Etho. He's 6"1.
Joel: He's human, but has antennae. No one knows why. He gets super protective when someone mentions the fact that he's a human and is king of the Fairy Kingdom, or that Lizzie made a bad choice. For his own pride, but also Lizzie's. They met at a diplomacy meeting, Joel being the son of a noble at said meeting, and Lizzie being a princess. They fell in love pretty quick, and ended up getting married. Lots of people think Joel is bad or stupid for marrying a fairy, as it's generally looked down upon to marry someone not of your kind. He's 29, Lizzie's the same age, and he's 5"10
Xisuma: He's not classified as a fantastical creature, or a celestial creature, or just a normal hybrid, because he's a voidwalker. Those are so rare that they are practically non-existent, but he and his brother are both one. His brother preferred a loner life, but Xisuma didn't want that. He joined the Ordinary Empire with a mask that had a purple visor, hoping it would hide the fact that he wasn't human and had purple eyes. When he got kicked out eventually because he was discovered, he went to the Hybrid Union. Somehow, he ended up in the council, but he doesn't really know how he got there. He acts like a dad, is 42, and is 6"8.
Other notes: Gem (deer centaur) is a botanist for the Fairy Kingdom, Etho (arctic fox) is an architect and a mechanic, Wels (bright wave moth) is a knight in the ranks of the Celestial Kingdom, Stress is a healer in the Ordinary Empire, Impulse comes from a family of commoners and is an inventor, Zed is a scientist, Skizz is an actor, Scott (elf) is an artist, Jimmy is just Jimmy and works where he can lol
As for some of the ships, we've got Mumscarian, Ranchers, and Gempearl :D
May add more?

Facts about our remaining family ? Maybe the other consorts as well if it’s not too much.
Nour is 24 years old—2 years older than MC. They've always played the nurturing mediator role among your siblings. If anyone could calm down Ember or Farah when they were worked up, it was Nour. They are particularly good with fire magic. Their mother is Consort Najaat, who of all the Emperor's consorts, was the most manipulative, constantly trying to pit Nour against their siblings and leverage them to elevate her own standing at court. Nour has never been the best at navigating the intricacies of court, finding it far too complex and overwhelming, much to their mother's frustration. Their relationship with their mother is very strained.
Farah is your fiery-tempered youngest sister. She is 11 years old and the daughter of Consort Soleil. Soleil had two other children: Farah's older twin brothers, Castor and Ember. Having been too young to join the rest of her siblings on the battlefield, Farah grew up largely alone at the palace, always waiting for the brief visits from her siblings whenever they had to return to the palace. After the deaths of your four oldest siblings, Farah was inconsolable for months. Now that you and Nour are home, she has been extremely clingy, insisting on following you both everywhere, making it hard for you to get any work done. Farah's mother Soleil has never gotten along with Najaat, the two of them constantly trying to outmaneuver each other to elevate their own influence. Soleil isn’t afraid to use her children as pawns, though she was devastated by the deaths of her sons.
Consort Safina was the mother of your two oldest siblings—Parim, the imperial crown prince, and Aurora, your eldest sister. As the mother of the heir and the second-in-line, Safina held much more sway over court than the other consorts, making her a target for Najaat's and Soleil's scheming. A harsh and imposing woman, Safina makes no secret of her deep distaste for the other consorts and their children, and has always endeavored to keep Parim's and Aurora's interactions with their siblings to a minimum. It is also no secret she is the emperor’s favorite, a fact she does not hesitate to leverage to her benefit.
Your mother, Consort Phoebe, has always been much more subtle in her machinations. If there is an opportunity to undermine the other consorts to her own benefit, she will take it, but she always covers her tracks and makes sure to always appear dignified and above it all. Even if no one else is able to pin a plot against the other consorts on Phoebe, you know her too well to recognize the signs of her handiwork. She focuses much effort on your training, making sure you are a model royal and is constantly maneuvering to improve your standing at court as well. Though she refrains from directly pitting you against your siblings, you know that hasn’t stopped her from subtly attacking their reputations.
Consort Helia is your father's most recent consort, with a baby on the way. Being far too naive and trusting for her own good, she has not adapted well to being part of the royal harem, making her an easy target, but she has been mostly shunned by the other consorts. You don't know her as well as you'd perhaps like to, having been away from the palace for a long time during the war. Now that you are home, Nour has been making an effort to include Helia when they can.
Your father, Emperor Solis, has never had much time to be a father to most of his children, too busy running a kingdom and leading a war. He is your emperor first, father last. He expects much from his children—they are all expected to do their part in adding to their family's honor and legacy.

RWBY Volume 9 = Splendor Solis
Tumblr media
Here comes a RWBY alchemy meta, which I can write thanks to @hamliet's help!
PREMISE
Alchemy is an ancient practice, whose goal is to create the philosopher stone. This stone gives immortality, transmutes lead into gold and creates new life (homunculus). From a philosophical point of view, alchemy's aim is to nurture the spirit and to make it perfect.
As @hamliet has explained in several metas, RWBY is an alchemical story, which metaphorically illustrates the procedure to create the stone. In particular, the series follows a specific structure and it references almost step by step the Ripley Scroll, a famous alchemical text.
That said, RWBY takes inspiration from other sources, as well. For example, volume 9 alludes to the Splendor Solis. This text is made of 22 illustrated plates, which describe the alchemical process. Let's see what RWBY does with them.
THE STRUCTURE OF THE SPLENDOR SOLIS
The 22 plates of the Splendor Solis are usually divided in 4 groups:
4 introductory plates- they present the protagonists of the alchemical journey
7 parables - they describe the alchemical death and rebirth
7 flask plates - they describe the alchemical process from a practical point of view
4 final plates - they describe the alchemical process from a spiritual point of view
RWBY volume 9 doesn't go through the whole thing, but rather focuses on the 7 parables and uses their imagery to illustrate RWBYJ's journey. In particular, the 7 parables are:
Plate 5 - Miners excavating a hill
Plate 6 - Philosophers beside a tree
Plate 7 - The drowning king
Plate 8 - Resurrection out of the swamp
Plate 9 - Hermaphrodite with an egg
Plate 10 - Severing the head of the king
Plate 11 - The bath
Let's see them one by one. I will change the order slightly to make their relevance to RWBY volume 9 easy to understand.
PLATE 6 - THE PHILOSOPHICAL TREE
Tumblr media
Plate 6 has 3 philosophers beside a tree.
The tree symbolizes:
The alchemy process
The journey to the Underworld
1- The tree is the path towards the philosopher stone and the philosophers are the people following it. To be precise:
The 3 men's clothes symbolize the different stages of the alchemical process (black - nigredo, white - albedo and red - rubedo)
The golden branch and flowers show the passage from the albedo to the rubedo through citrinitas (the yellow stage)
In short, the scene is a metaphor for the alchemical journey with a focus on the yellow stage, which connects the white stage and the red stage:
Tumblr media
The RWBY girls represent the 4 stages of alchemy (Blake - Nigredo, Weiss - Albedo, Yang - Citrinitas and Ruby - Rubedo). In volume 9, they go through a self-refinement journey and struggle through the citrinitas stage. This is why a lot of yellow is found in the Ever After.
2- The text that accompanies plate 6 talks about Aeneas's journey into the Underworld. To enter this realm, Aeneas needs a golden branch from a special tree, which can be obtained only by people chosen by fate. In short, it is the tree that decides who can visit the kingdom of the deads.
Well, the Curious Cat learns a similar lesson the hard way:
Jaune: So Neo can’t go through the door… NeoCat: No. She has no attachments to your world. Nothing to return to. She has failed me… just like Alyx did.
The Tree is the only way out from the Ever After and it can be found only through acceptance:
Curious Cat: It’s not a place you go. It’s a place you know.
The Ever After itself alludes to the Underworld in 3 different ways:
It is the first version of the world, above which the Brothers have created Remnant. This is why it is under and you fall into it (symbolically)
It is the world buried inside people's hearts and minds. It is a place where repressed feelings need to come out and to be addressed
It is the world of the deads (Hereafter), so in this dimension the characters come to terms with grief
Plate 6 represents the main setting of volume 9, whose plot revolves around the Great Tree, the yellow stage and the themes of grief and acceptance.
PLATE 9 - THE HERMAPHRODITE
Tumblr media
The Hermaphrodite is the result of the Conjunctio, which is the metaphorical marriage of Solar and Lunar (Sun and Moon) and the physical marriage of sulfur and mercury. In short, it is the result of a union:
Tumblr media
Bumbleby goes through their final chemical wedding in the Ever After (they reach their Happily Ever After). This moment is a top off of their individual developments and the consumption of their previous weddings. They are bees (a recurring alchemical symbol linked to the soul) making honey. They are two souls becoming one. So, their kiss has flowers bloom and creates life.
PLATE 5 - MINERS EXCAVATING A HILL
Tumblr media
Plate 5 leads us to volume 9's climax and to the heart of the Splendor Solis's inspiration in RWBY. This plate has:
2 miners excavating a hill (a metaphor for making the stone from the prima materia). It is important that the two characters wear respectively a golden and a silver robe, which call back to the Sun and Moon
The Sun and Moon mirroring each other. The Sun is in the sky (air) and the Moon is in the river (water). They are opposites balancing each other
Eshter's story pictured in the frame of the pedestal. Eshter is a biblical character and the second wife of King Ahasuerus, who is determined to kill the Jews. Still, Eshter (a Jews herself) steps in, touches the King's staff and convinces him to let her people live
The plate's theme is the beginning (prima materia) of a union (sun and moon) through communication (Eshter's parable).
It is referenced here:
Tumblr media
The Genial Gems create a giant white hill, which clearly alludes to the philosopher stone. What's more, the scene has 2 protagonists:
Tumblr media
Jaune is linked to the sun and masculine (gold), while Weiss to the moon and feminine (silver). They grow closer thanks to empathy.
In particular, their interaction is an inversion of King Ahasuerus and Eshter's. In the biblical episode, the King wants to kill the Jews and Eshter stops him. In RWBY, Jaune doesn't want to let the Paper Pleasers ascend and Weiss tries to get through to him (together with BY):
Weiss: Then why do you care so much about this village?! Jaune: Because I can actually PROTECT these people!!
Just like Esther touches the King's staff, Weiss grabs Jaune's sword:
Tumblr media
Eshter's gesture is a symbol of intimacy and connection. Similarly, using another person's weapon in RWBY shows closeness, which foreshadows Jaune and Weiss's interaction in the climax.
Symbolically, the King is Power and Eshter is Truth. This fits Jaune being heart and Weiss being mind. Finally, Eshter is the King's second wife and here Weiss steps in as Jaune's second anima after Pyrrha.
In general, the whole scene is important thematically, as it foreshadows the resolution of the volume:
Tumblr media
The Paper Pleasers are kind, but frail, so they go through a process of self-refinement and are reborn as Genial Gems (philosopher stones). This is exactly what happens to Ruby and Jaune.
So, RWBY's miners scene (plate 5) leads WBYJ to the Tree (plate 6), where the climax unfolds.
PLATE 7 - THE DROWNING KING
Tumblr media
Plate 7 shows two kings. The one in the background is old and about to drown. The one in the front is young, serene and is together with a dove, which symbolizes resurrection. The scene illustrates the death of the king and his rebirth as a new, more perfected self:
Curious Cat: Oh, it was all very sad. The Red King couldn’t cope when he lost to Alyx, a crying mess. Thankfully, he was called back and fixed up, and now he’s the Prince you met.
The Red Prince's story is an inversion of this Plate. He starts as a wise King, but experiences loss and is reborn as a pampered and capricious cheater. He undergoes a transformation, which results in a regression.
These are the dangers of the alchemical death, which can lead to self-refinement, but also to a loss of the self. What will it be for our main characters?
The Drowning King is meaningful for 2 RWBY characters:
Jaune
Ruby
Jaune finds himself stuck in the Ever After, where he grows old physically, but never matures psychologically. His way out is to turn a new leaf and grow up:
Alyx: Maybe it’s time for a change, to be the kind of man you always wanted to be.
So, he leaves the Rusted Knight behind and becomes Jaune Arc:
Tumblr media
The Old King is drown and the New King appears.
Ruby is similarly stuck because she is prisoner of Summer Rose's idealized idea. So, she breaks Summer's pedestal:
Ruby: What? What was that? She… She lied. She left with Raven. Why would she…? Blacksmith: Who knows why people keep the secrets they do. Maybe you’re not the only one who has felt the weight of other’s expectations. Like Alyx, like your mother.
And chooses herself:
Tumblr media
Summer Rose is gone, but Ruby Rose has just begun.
Volume 9 takes 2 other symbols from this Plate, which accompany Ruby's arc and the theme of the Drowning King.
The 2 Suns
Tumblr media
Butterflies
Tumblr media
The 2 Suns shine brilliantly in the Ever After, just like they do over the 2 Kings' heads. They symbolize Ruby's dependence on Summer, but also her eventual rise to be even brighter than her mother:
I'll be who you were and I'll be even more
Butterflies are symbolic of the process of transformation Ruby goes through. They start as caterpillars (lead), but change into butterflies (gold). This is the meaning of Ruby's ascension:
Tumblr media
Just like Herb, Ruby finds quiet in a cocoon and eventually emerges stronger and more beautiful.
Finally, Ruby's rebirth from the tree is hinted at in the bottom of Plate 7's frame, where 2 panels can be seen:
The left panel shows a woman and a satyr embracing under a tree as a man with a club moves to attack them. The right panel shows the same scene, but the tree transforms into a man who shelters the couple from the attack.
Similarly, WBYJ fight NeoCatt in front of TreeRuby, who eventually breaks free and joins the battle.
PLATE 8 - RESURRECTION OUT OF THE SWAMP
Tumblr media
Plate 8 has a figure coming out from the mud. They wear black and red and have a silver arm:
Tumblr media
Our girl Ruby is reborn wearing her signature black and red clothes, with her emblem and eyes shining silver.
Similarly, Jaune falls into a metaphorical swamp:
Tumblr media
Where he faces Alyx (his shadow), so he can resurface with a trump card to save Neo and defeat the Cat:
Jaune: Burn the leaves!
In short, this Plate represents both Ruby and Jaune's resurrections. Still, who is the angelic figure on the right? She is Sophia, who embodies Wisdom:
Tumblr media
Curious Cat: Looking at you, wise huntress.
In volume 9, Weiss steadily grows in this role. She empathizes with Ruby and leads the others towards the theme of the volume (acceptance). In particular, she guides Jaune with her wise words and symbalically has him fall under the tree, so that he faces his ghosts and is reborn stronger. Moreover, Weiss is there to wait for Ruby and welcomes her back with a full Nevermore:
Tumblr media
Just like the Reborn King in Plate 7 is celebrated by a dove, Weiss summons her first Nevermore once Ruby is back.
It's probable Weiss will fully bloom into Wisdom and will be important for the conclusion of both Ruby and Jaune's arcs, as they will be for hers.
Our Snowhite just needs a final resurrection to complete her fairy tale. So far, each rebirth has been highlighted by an avatar:
Jacques traps Snowhite in a glass coffin (her room). Still, she calls her Prince (The Arma Gigas) and breaks free
Cinder kills Snowhite, but a Prince (Jaune) saves her and she is crowned Queen (The Queen Lancer)
Right now, Weiss has lost her home and the SDC. She is left with a family name, which means nothing and is asked to do something with it. Probably, her final resurrection will be that of the Schnee name, which will become a symbol of hope. Surely, the Nevermore is meant to play a symbolic role in that. After all, the Nevermore is a Grimm she killed together with her team. So, it makes sense it comes to symbolize the resurrection of her family, her team and her loved ones. Surely, it is so in volume 9. Weiss's path ahead, then, lies in her supporting and guiding others with love and wisdom. Her adventure in the Ever After is simply the realization of this truth.
PLATE 10 AND PLATE 11 - SOLVET ET COAGULA
Let's skip to Plate 10 and Plate 11. These 2 scenes are meant to be seen as complementary, as they illustrate the process of solvet and coagula. Separate and unite. Destruction and Creation:
Blacksmith: She will have the chance to return her broken heart… And becomes something new. Such is balance.
The Tree works precisely through this duality. When Afterans get broken, they go to the Tree and are re-made in a new form. Destruction is the first step of Creation. This is what the 2 Plates convey.
Plate 10 represents Destruction, as its subject is a dismembered body:
Tumblr media
Plate 11 represents Creation, as it shows a man being purified and reborn through a bath (the bath = baptism):
Tumblr media
The symbolism of Plate 11 is especially interesting for Jaune and Ruby's arcs. In particular, let's focus on the 2 statues below the balcony, which are perched in alcoves of the building wall. They are Jupiter and Mercury and they point to 2 different paths.
Jupiter is linked to tin and points to a representation of Vulcan, the divine forger, while he works with his hammer. In Greek Mythology, Vulcan discovers fire and becomes the God of metalworking.
Mercury is linked to quicksilver and points to the man in the boiling tub. In Greek Mythology, Mercury is the messanger of the Gods and is famous for his speed.
The first path leads to fire and is slow:
Tumblr media
Blacksmith to Jaune: I’ve been waiting a long time for you.
The second path leads to water and is quick:
Tumblr media
Blacksmith: I didn’t expect you’re here just yet.
Both Jaune and Ruby go through an alchemical transformation, but they do so in opposite ways.
Jaune's change is slow, as he spends years trapped in the Ever After. That said, when he finally reaches the Blacksmith (Vulcan's furnace), he is ready to change and his transformation is painless. He gains a new form through the Blacksmith integrating him with Alyx's knife. Symbolically, to reach this point he goes through a baptism of fire. The Tree leaves are burnt and bring Jaune visions.
Ruby's change is quick, as she reaches the Tree after 2 days in the Ever After. Still, it is also highly traumatic and violent, to the point she risks to lose herself in the process. She is asked to choose a new identity, which means it could have been the end of Ruby Rose. Symbolically, to transform she drinks tea (hot water). The Tree leaves are dissolved in water and lead Ruby to ascension.
So, our Jeanne D'Arc and our Little Red Riding Hood have parallel and yet opposite arcs, which lead them towards a better version of themselves. Is this ideal form reached, as for the end of volume 9?
No, it isn't, which is why the Hermaphrodite (Plate 9) is only indirectly referenced in Bumbleby's wedding. For the individual, the Hermaphrodite represents completion, but so far our protagonists are still incomplete:
Otherside, Did you mean to make me half or whole? Will I ever be (complete)? When will I become all of me?
This is why the driving question of the volume isn't "Who are you?", but "What are you?". It hints to the fact this is not the final step of self-actualization, but rather the beginning of it:
Ruby: Oh, uh, I’m a human. A girl? A Huntress? Mouse: That’s a lot of things.
Somewhat: Hmmm. Somewhat. Yeah. Somewhat. I’m not any one thing, I’m somewhat of a lot of things!
Little grows into Somewhat, just like Ruby grows into someone. She doesn't really know who she is. All she knows is that she will discover it:
Little: I’m sure it’ll make sense eventually.
Somewhat: It will be alright, Huntress.
Volume 9 not being the ending of our characters' arcs is highlighted also by the rainbow motif throughout the season:
Tumblr media
The Rainbow Phase is a stage, which can happen either at the beginning or at the end of Albedo. In RWBY it happens both at the beginning and at the end of the White Phase. It represents a shift and a positive change, but it is a passage rather than the final product. Moreover, a color which is often present in this moment is green (transformation), which accompanies the Blacksmith and her powers:
Tumblr media
So, volume 9 is the climax of the Yellow Phase, which leads the characters to the final Red Phase. Still, what is the Yellow Phase really about?
THE MOTHER TREE
Each alchemical stage is linked to a Jungian Archetype:
Nigredo is linked to the Shadow
Albedo is linked to the Anima/Animus
Citrinitas is linked to the Wise Woman
Rubedo is linked to the Self
The Wise Woman is a female mentor figure, who often overlaps with the Great Mother. She is a first unconscious representation of the Self:
The unconscious changes its dominant character and appears in a new symbolic form representing the Self, the innermost nucleus of the personality. In the dreams of a woman this centre is usually personified as a superior female figure – a priestess, sorceress, earth mother, or goddess of nature or love.
So, the Wise Woman is the overcoming of the mother that comes with self-awareness.
In RWBY volume 9 she appears in 2 forms.
Summer Rose is the Wise Woman/Great Mother, when it comes to the microchosm (Ruby's journey)
The Blacksmith/ Mother Tree is the Wise Woman/GreatMother, when it comes to the macrochosm (Remnant's history)
Ruby sees the true form of her mother. She realizes Summer isn't perfect, which in turn helps her accept she herself doesn't have to be either. She is enough:
Summer: I love you… Just the way you are.
This truth frees Ruby, who is finally able to step up and to become herself. Sure, she still has to forge a fully developed identity. Still, she is starting to move away from Summer:
Guide my way out Of this place (I can guide me, I can guide my way out) Guide my way out Of this place
Her mother is a fundamental part of who she is, but Ruby can become more.
Ruby's story in volume 9 is a first timid step towards self-actualization, which is well summarized by her first and last conversations with Little/Somewhat:
Ruby: No. No, that’s my name. Do you have a name? Mouse: I’m still young, so… not yet. Ruby: How about I call you… Little, for now. Would that be alright?
Mouse Afteran: I’m… Well, you know I haven’t thought about it yet. You look like you have wits about you. What do you think I am? Ruby: Well, uh… To me, you seem like a friend. Blake: A guide. Weiss: A protector. Yang: A…dorable. Ruby: Do any of those sound close?
When they meet, Ruby names Little, just like a mother names a child. When they say goodbye, Ruby and the others help Somewhat, but eventually they name themselves. Similarly, Summer's promise helps Ruby, but it is our girl herself who makes the choice and decides who she is gonna be:
Somewhat: You do feel… familiar. Like a happy dream I can’t remember.
Red like roses fills my dreams
RWBY discovers the truth about the origin of the world:
Tumblr media
The Tree created the Gods, who eventually created Remnant and humanity.
The Blacksmith's speech is interesting because it ties perfectly into RWBY's alchemy motif.
In some ancient texts, the Philosophical Tree is the equivalent of the Philosophical Stone
Later on, the Philosophical Stone ends up taking the Tree's place
The Tree remains an important alchemical metaphor, which often appears together with flowers, as the final product of the transformation
Well, according to the Blacksmith:
The Tree is the origin of the universe. It is an organism, which creates and destroys by following the alchemical process
The Brothers are born from the Tree and come to embody the 2 principles of the solvet (Darkness) and coagula (Light). However, they enter a fight, which breaks the balance
RWBY are the Brothers' children. The girls symbolize the Philosopher Stone, as all together make team rwby (ruby)
The message is clear. The girls (together with the other characters) will give the world a new balance (macrochosm):
Tumblr media
Blacksmith: But balance was not two forces locked in never-ending battle. Balance is an ecosystem, an organism, a living breathing thing. Thus, balance cannot be restored with force or calculations.
At the same time, they will bloom into themselves (microchosm):
Tumblr media
Blacksmith: True balance finds its own equilibrium. It only requires love and the patience to see things through in the end.
This is the meaning of RWBY's philosopher stone. Life (saving the world) and self-actualization (growing up).
WOMEN'S WORK AND CHILD'S PLAY
Alchemy is sometimes referred to as women's work and child's play. This phrase is mirrored also by 2 Plates at the end of the Splendor Solis. Right now it isn't important to analyze said imagery nor to understand the meaning of this saying. What matters is that these words perfectly fit RWBY.
RWBY is the story of 4 girls saving the world and of a child inspiring others to be kind and hopeful:
Blacksmith: One small kindness in one small moment would be such a marvelous transformation.
This will be the day we've waited for. This will be the day we open up the door. I don't wanna hear your absolution; Hope you're ready for a revolution. Welcome to a world of new solutions. Welcome to a world of bloody evolution. In time, your heart will open minds, A story will be told, and victory is in a simple soul.
Really, RWBY is the perfect alchemical story.

series masterlist
All I’ve ever known is summer.
In my world, Etos, there are five kingdoms: Heims, Oceanus, Florere, Ember, Nox, and Solis. Anywhere else is far too dangerous for a mortal to step foot into, even if they could manage crossing the sea that separates us from the Fae lands and beyond.
The furthest land from my own is Heims, a frosty wonderland full of people hardened by the perpetually cold weather. Most of our coal comes directly from Heims, as well as my father’s toughest soldiers. My eldest sister, Wilhelmina, or Mina, as far as our family is concerned, married the charming Prince of Heims, Kristofer, and currently resides in the castle made of crystal so clear it almost looked like ice, setting the standard for the rest of my sisters.
Oceanus, too, was an important ally to have—their land producing the entirety of our fish as well as guarding the coast from those who seek to take back Etos. My father knew this well, and soon arranged for my second eldest sister, Peregrine, or Peri, to be married off to the King’s highest ranking emissary, Lord Titus, assuring the alliance between our lands. Luckily for soft-natured Peri, Titus seemed to be a gentleman and truly in love with my sister. I would have never allowed my father to marry her off if he wasn’t. Her gentle and kind spirit was far too precious to me to allow some man to ruin it.
Ember, a land of constant autumn, was where the academics went to study the arts and the sciences. My sister, Wilhelmina, was the actually the very first woman to be admitted into the university. I always admired her tenacity in the face of adversity, but even in my admiration, I feared her intellect and drive, just as my father must have after breaking down and allowing her to leave Solis.
The softer lands—at least in the minds of the northerners—were Florere, a land of eternal spring, and Solis, my land, the eternal summer. Octavia, the sister closest in age to me and by far the only one I couldn’t bring myself to enjoy due to her mean-nature and competitiveness, had recently left Solis to be with her betrothed, the Prince of Florere, Ignacio. I didn’t bother to vet her partner, but from what I could see by his solid gold carriage and fine regalia, he seemed to be just as pretentious as she was. A perfect match as far as I was concerned.
Even in all the beauty of Etos, all the varying climates and scenes, I never wanted to live anywhere else but my home. Solis.
Here there was no reason to be cruel and cold. Here, we appreciated the arts, and believed that leisure itself was an artform. We worshipped the sun, we worshipped our gardens, and when it came to love, we worshipped one another.
My father, his mother, and her father before her all wore the golden crown of Solis. Warmth and sunlight was woven into my bones, tanned my skin, softened my heart. My mother once told me, long before she passed, that my sisters and I were all born beneath a blazing sun at her request. I suppose she believed a warm birth meant we’d all live warm lives and die warm deaths.
As I wandered through the garden contemplating my newly revealed fate, I couldn’t help but wonder if her efforts were in vain.
My father, a once-loving, soft man I cherished more than the sun itself, had changed since my mother’s shocking and violent death after she was mauled by an injured wolf while attempting to remove an arrow from its side in the very forest I now padded my feet into. He grew cruel and hateful towards me, his youngest of five girls. I suppose I understand why, if I truly think about it.
Unlike my four older sisters, I took after my mother so much that even I found myself shocked at the resemblance. And even if I didn’t have her shimmering, gold eyes, or her caramel-brown head of long curls, or the same dimple in my left cheek, I had her heart. Soft, curious, and empathetic. Everything my father once loved about my mother, he now hated about me.
Of course he found it hard to look at me, to talk to me. I was his grief personified.
But even in all his iciness and hatred, I never expected that he’d sign my life away to the coldest, darkest realm in the world. To Nox. To marry the infamously insufferable King Kaius and become the future queen of the starland.
Whether I wanted to or not.
It felt personal, his choice in my betrothed. A daughter of the sun being forced to never see it again. It almost felt like another death to endure. Everything I have ever known and loved gone overnight.
As I found my place underneath my favorite elm tree, the one me and my mother used to sneak off to with our stolen bundle of sweets from the kitchen, I couldn’t bring myself to loathe him the way I wanted to.
Perhaps the distance would chill the warmth I still held in my heart for him.
Perhaps then, I could hate him the way he deserves.
Tumblr media
My sister, Cosabella—the most cautious and maternal out of the five of us, happily married to the head of our father’s King’s Guard—and my father stood in front of our palace, its white marble and green grass beckoning me to stay. To fight for my right to live here in the sun, just as my mother had. But one look at my father’s cold and emotionless face and I knew there was no point.
This was how he wanted it.
“Take care of yourself,” Cosabella warned, slipping me a golden dagger. “Do not trust anyone. Write when you can. I will see you…” She trailed off, but I knew why. She didn’t know when we’d see each other next, if at all. “Just…be careful. Remember that just because the sun is gone, does not mean mother isn’t right there with you. She lives in you, Mari—“
“Enough,” my father shouted, gesturing behind me at the carriage waiting with two footmen and two Kingsguards. “Off you go.”
“Yes, father,” I replied, my voice as small as a child as I gave Cosabella one final hug, memorizing the citrus of her perfume.
“Go on, now,” she smiled as she pulled away, wiping the tear from my cheek. “Go introduce Solis to Nox. Bring them a little light.”
“I love you,” I managed, nodding my head at her command. “I will see you.”
“I love you too.”
I knew she wouldn’t promise me anything she couldn’t assure, but it didn’t help my cracking heart as I climbed into the carriage, leaving everything I’d ever known behind.
I placed my hand upon the glass window and watched as she lifted her own, waving at me before resting it over her equally breaking heart.
“Make yourself comfortable, Princess,” the footman that I’d known since I was a child called back into the carriage. “It’s a long ride to Nox.”
To the eternal darkness.
I wasn’t sure how they managed any of it. How cold they must be, not only their bodies but their hearts and minds. I couldn’t imagine any beauty in a black sky.
I’d heard about stars in my astronomy courses, learned that the sun itself was a star, but it never seemed to make any sense to me to spend time contemplating a billion little specks of light when I could lay beneath the biggest. A light bright enough to shine over the entirety of the world—except for Nox.
My father had said it was cursed by the fae Kings and Queens who once ruled over these lands, a punishment for the mortal revolution. And based on the description he gave of his own visits, I was inclined to believe him then. But now…
Curse or no curse, this was my fate. I could either accept the cards dealt to me and make something of them, or I could fold.
My mother taught me to never fold.

So Wings of Fire Religion... Part One???
-Skywings-
Skywings are probably the most spiritual tribe. They believe in the reincarnation of dragons of their tribes as long as their bodies are exposed in the proper environment, preferably, bodies are placed on cliff sides with tributes from the family and friends of the dead dragons, wrapped in light silk so their spirits do not grow too cold from the winds.
Sky dragons worship the sun, they see it as the giving and taking force of the world and tend to have masses worshiping the fire god of the sky with a designated priest dousing dragons in warm water heated by the sun god as a blessing. They call it the burning eye of Helios. Legend has it that a skywing flew so close to the sun that he became one with it, blessing the world with flamescales and ashscales as a sense of balance. While Flamesscales are usually executed, the families that keep the ashscale counterpart are treated as highly as royals for having a blessed child.
Skywings also have a marriage tradition where they take place on the highest mountains and are blessed by the sun and a priest. Usually, these weddings are held with close families and friends and are not made a spectacle.
-Seawings-
Seawings are not as spiritual as most tribes but tend to worship dolphins and the beast Leviathan of the deep trenches. Leviathan is their primary god and they often offer sacrifices of whales and other massive fish to appease the sea god. It is said that Seawing dragonets hatched in the deepest and darkest channels of the ocean are hatched with the protection of the sea god.
Seawings believe that in death their spirits travel the currents of the kingdom so their bodies are often left to drift in said currents so that the dead seawings can learn the currents even in death.
Seawing Marriages are a big deal to this group of goofballs that start with a feast and a shark hunt. This shark hunt is no regular thing because the bride and groom (or whatever pairing is getting married because we don't tolerate homophobia on THIS TUMBLR BLOG) are required to eat the hearts of the sharks. It is a tradition based on the fact that sharks are creatures of strength, if a couple eats the hearts of a pair of sharks swimming together, they are bound for life.
-Rainwings-
Rainwings worship the earth as a whole and not just parts of it. They worship the cycles between life and death and the process of the journey of the body.
Rainwings do not worship a god but rather the earth itself, they do not offer tribute to it but they synchronize their breathing with the plants in the environment during their suntimes. Rainwings also tend to zone out when they are in sync with the environment, their bodies have a natural reaction to this zone of being and their vocal cords will react to the sounds around them.
The Rainwings really respect the process of death. When one of their own dies, they move the body to the center of the rainforest or to the dragon's favorite spot and cover their body in a light layer of solid. The rainwings leave the body and often visit to plant flowers or bright fruits for the soli, believing that their body keeps the Rainforest alive
-Silkwings-
Silkwings worship butterflies. It is a cardinal sin to kill or capture a butterfly in the silk kingdom and those who do are usually punished. Silkwings believe that when they die, they reincarnate as the butterflies, different types of butterflies reflect how a dragon lived their life and the brighter the colors the more full the dragon's life had been. The silk dragons will often leave sweet waters and treats out for butterflies as a tribute to them and as worshiping respect.
Butterflies are also considered very good luck, with the story of the first silkwing living a joyous life and continuing to live her life as a small bug, a butterfly. Her name was Monarch, the first butterfly. When a silkwing dies, she is buried with a butterfly bush to attract luck after death. In hopes that the first Monarch will return to lead them to the afterlife

Tumble Town Toy AU - Prompt Idea
Tumble Town was never originally part of the Empires, no one had even heard of Solidarity Gaming/Jimmy. The other Emperors started building their kingdoms and it wasn't until Joel, who needed terracotta, went to the Badlands and saw the town did the other Emperors realize there was something else.
Well, of course, everyone tries to meet the person who was creating the empire, but they found no one. Just houses, buildings, a railroad, and a creeper farm with no one to man it. They leave, thinking the person would be here tomorrow.
Joel and Scott go the next day and more buildings have popped up in the empire. The two began looking around for a person again, but only found a sign.
"My name is Solidarity, I'm the Sheriff. Welcome to Tumble Town. We'll probably never see each other, the people of Tumble Town don't like outsiders."
They think it's weird but shrug it off. The other empires continue talking to the "empty" town and, the next day, a sign with Soli's responses would be made. He even made a shop for the other empires to buy his goods if needed!
One day, however, Joel lands in Tumble Town and sees a house being made. He runs over and goes to introduce himself, but stops. Building the house was a tiny man, about the size of a toy, wearing a sheriff outfit.
"...Are you Solidarity?"
The dirty blonde turns and widens his eyes. He drops what he's doing and runs away.
"HEY! WAIT!" Joel tries to run after him.
He almost catches him, but Solidarity stepped on a pressure plate and sand is sent into Joel's eyes, blinding him. Just like that, Solidarity is gone once more.

HOW TO NAME YOUR DRAGON (in Latin)
Disclaimer
I'm not some kind of expert in Latin or anything like that, but I have experience in taxonomy for my dragon project, as well as biology education. Therefore, here I want to share some basic principles that will help you avoid obvious mistakes.
1. Google translator is your enemy, dictionaries are your friends
Google translate is not good at Latin. There you can occasionally check some roots if you cannot use a dictionary, but you should use it with great care and only if you already have some knowledge of Latin. Otherwise, the result is likely to be completely wrong.
I use some online Russian-Latin dictionaries, but I will not give any specific links, because all dictionaries are basically the same.
2. Taxonomy has rules
The scientific name of a species is binomial, that is, it consists of two words: the name of the genus to which the given species belongs, and the second word, called the species epithet in botany, and the species name in zoology.
The first word is capitalized, the second is lowercase.
Both words are in italics in the text.
The first word is a singular noun; the second is either an adjective in the nominative case, agreed in gender (masculine, feminine or neuter) with a generic name, or a noun in the genitive case.
Sometimes the second word can be a noun in the nominative case, which may not agree in gender with the first word, but this option is not common and I did not use it in my project.
The scientific names of dragons of celestial metals have both parts capitalized (Draco Solis, Draco Mercurii) only as an exception, as their species names refer to astrological Planets, and in my setting astrology plays an important role, however in terms of real taxonomy this is wrong.
In addition, most of my dragons have trinomial names, which is also related to their special position in the taxonomy.
Usually, for the names of species, I used the variant noun + noun in the genitive case, and for the names of subspecies I used adjectives.
For example:
Wyrmis platini regius
Serpens aeris nitentis
Guivrus phosphori niger
It should be remembered that botanical and zoological systematics have differences. In my project, I used some middle option, since dragons belong to a separate kingdom (for example, I used the term “epithet” instead of the term “name”). If your species are, for example, animals, then you need to follow precisely the zoological rules.
In fact, even in real taxonomy, there are some “mistakes” and deviations from the system, which are due to traditions and habits, however, the “it happened” card should be used with caution.
3. Noun gender
Nouns in Latin have a gender. In the dictionary, next to each noun, you can find an indication of its gender (masculine, feminine, or neuter), according to which the adjective should change.
For example:
Draco, onis m
The letter m means that the word is masculine.
The forms of adjectives are also indicated in dictionaries (often only the new ending is indicated).
For example:
niger, nigra, nigrum
ruber, bra, brum
aureus, a, um
Therefore, any option other than Draco niger, Draco ruber, or Draco aureus would be incorrect.
In English, it is difficult to convey the nuances, but in Russian the fallacy of the combination Draco nigra - “Дракон черная” will be obvious to everyone.
4. Parts of speech
An adjective is not a noun. I realize how self-evident this sounds, but it's very important for translating into Latin from English. In English, the word “water” can be both an adjective and a noun, so the spelling “water dragon” is absolutely correct, but in Latin you cannot just write Draco aqua, because in translation it will literally mean “dragon”, “(the) water” . The correct variant would be either Draco aquaticus or Draco aquae
5. Cases
Fortunately for you and me, in the context of taxonomy, we only need the genitive case, the form of which is always indicated in dictionaries (since it determines the declension).
Same example:
Draco, onis m
The genitive form would be “draconis”
6. Don't forget the year and the author
You probably noticed that after the name of a species or even just a genus there are other words. Most often you can see (Linnaeus, 1758) or L. (1753) there. The fact is that the names of taxa are not something given to us by God. They were invented by people, and therefore the full name of each species and genus includes the surname of the person who named it (but not necessarily discovered) and the year when this name was published. Many species were named by Linnaeus, so the examples above are the most common. The first option is used in zoology, and the second in botany. In my project, I used a zoological variant, often referring to Linnaeus and other real scientists, but also inventing new surnames.
7. Additional notation
It often happens that one scientist described a species as part of one genus, and then someone transferred it to another taxon. Or the species name itself has not yet been approved. Or someone described the species in the work of another scientist. Or the name has synonyms. Or is it important for you to specify the variety. Or many other necessary notes.
That's why there are additional notations. Again, they differ in zoology and botany (if I remember correctly, I mainly followed the zoological variants in the Guide), and you can find a complete list of them on Wikipedia under the query “Обозначения, используемые в наименованиях таксонов” (unfortunately, the version of this articles in English are very incomplete)
It is not necessary to add something similar to the name of each species, however, if you have a whole group of creatures, then such additions will bring variety and realism.
Here are some examples from my project:
Guivrus sulfuris vulgaris ined.
Caudaesus silicii bichromus [syn. Caudaesus silicii quarzeus var. bichromus] Sewergin, 1810
Serpens aeris nigra Bert, 1851 ex Tenore, 1849
Serpens ferri arsenicea Morout in Alcorn, 1812
Serpens stanni marina (Linnaeus, 1758) Schnering, 1983
Wyrmis aluminii lotus [syn. Wyrmis aluminii corundeus var. lotus] (Linnaeus, 1758) Wiltse, 1868
8. Other taxa
In addition to genera and species, there are also other taxa. And if taxa below the species are found relatively infrequently, then families, orders, classes, types and kingdoms are a necessary part of taxonomy. Of course, you can always assign your creature to an already existing class or even family, however, if you plan to create your own taxa, you should first check the endings accepted in a particular science.
For example, for orders of animals, the endings -iformes and -ida are used, and for the orders of plants, fungi, bacteria, and archaea, -ales.
That's all. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them (but remember that I am essentially only an amateur and English is not my native language, so I may not know where to get certain sources in this language)
