"You're alive!" Huma had never been sure what happened after that test in the tower. "You're alive!" he repeated in wonder. The face of Magius was visible, even in the dark. His mouth twisted into a rueful smile. "Yes. I apologize."

Bird of prophecy
Tumblr media
I’ve talked a lot about Elain’s connection to the myth of Blodeuwedd, a spring maiden transformed into an owl. A long time ago, I also stumbled across the Gamayun in Slavic mythology, which is associated with other bird-maidens (like Sirin, which comes from the Greek Siren). The Gamayun is a half-bird, half-woman of prophecy. She symbolizes knowledge and wisdom and acts as a divine messenger. This bird-maiden originates from the Huma in Iranian mythology. According to legend, the Huma flies invisibly above the earth and its shadow foretells the next king when there is no heir. It is depicted as a combination of creatures like a mighty griffin. It would be fitting if Elain, who is canonically wise and prophetic, traveled like the Huma: a fusion of animal forms and invisible to all. The Cauldron travels that way, and it would be appropriate (and badass) for a divine messenger to mimic the power it gave her. All those with the gift of Sight we’ve met in the Maasverse—Baba Yellowlegs, the oracle, and shapeshifter mystic—also seem to navigate more than one form, even if it only involves iron teeth and claws. Could Elain also possess her own bird-maiden form as a seer? Or will her flight through time and space remain mental? Only time will tell.

OC Questionaire
I'm gonna respond to a couple people on this post so this is gonna be a bit of a big one! First, @mk-writes-stuff
What would you go back and do differently if you could redo one event in your life?
Narul: "I wouldn't have stopped to pick those flowers, I would have gotten back to the others before..."
Ninma: "I would have told Jani to stay, I would have told him that we didn't need the wine."
Otilia: "I would have left Korithia ages ago, I wouldn't have lived with that horrible man, I would run away."
Akard: "I would've stopped the Makurians. I would've kept them away from the children."
What’s the ugliest thing you’ve ever worn?
Narul: "Um, this I suppose." He gestures to the great shaggy sheepskin drapped on his shoulders, stained and matted from years of use.
Ninma: "My mother gave me a green shawl, it was the color of throw up, the weaver who made that should be thrown into the river."
Otilia: "Ugh that white...sheet, that Wadikir made us wear."
Akard: "Ugly? Hmm, when I was a boy I was told to wear a Kishite style robe, so that the Apunians would not forget my heritage. But the palace seamstresses did not know how to make it properly, so it was baggy and one sleeve was longer than the other."
How do you feel about children?
Narul: He glances at Ninma and chuckles, "Their a bit loud sometimes, maybe a little more energetic then I would like, but...I don't mind them I suppose."
Ninma: The five year old crosses her arms and sniffs regally, "They're stupid and immature, and they don't know anything about good food or poetry."
Otilia: "They're alright. I will say that I'm not terribly saddened by the fact that the gods have decided that I can't have any of my own."
Akard: At the mention of the world children he grimaces and turns away, "They are precious. The person who would do them harm...is owed no forgiveness."
And next up is @illarian-rambling
What's your favorite legend and why?
Narul: "Oh! I like the legend of the giant, Huma. I don't hear it all that often, most people don't like it because there isn't any fighting or monsters in it. Huma was a giant, like me, he was big and strong but he never used that to hurt people. There are so many stories about him. Once to protect the people of Shipra from bandits he built an entire wall for the city by himself in one night. When the fields of Shepra were dry he dug an entire river to irrigate their crops. Once when a merchant ship was stuck in a storm off the coast of Kotsa he used a sling and a rope of leather to catch the storm spirit and held it until it agreed to let the merchants get back to their homes. I know that most of the stories aren't true, but I like imagining someone that looks like me that doesn't hurt people and that people aren't afraid of."
Ninma: "Seha and the Golden Trout! Seha was so cool, and she fights monsters and forestfolks, she talked to the ancient Kiriki. She's just so cool, I think she's even cooler than Tamel was, it's easy to do impressive things when you're a demigod, Seha was just a princess from Makur."
Bazus: " The story of Tamel and the demon. When Tamel and his followers landed on the shores of Kishetal, they were attacked by a great demon, before they could escape he broke their ships and consumed three dozen people. Tamel fought the beast with his bow, and the arrows just bounced off, he fought it with his fists but he could not break the fiend's bones, and so finally he took up the hammer he had been given as a gift, a hammer of Arkodian Bronze, and that is what he used to slay the demon. And that's where they made the city of Udur, the first Kishite city. That hammer was the symbol of Royal power in Kishetal, until it went missing with Tamel's son. I wonder where it went.
Zenit: "Hmm...there's a story in Shabala, don't laugh, it's about a crow spirit that falls in love with a dove spirit. And their children became the spirits of the wind, the warm southern winds are from their mother, the cold northern winds are from their mother. It's not exciting or anything, no monsters, I just think its nice."
How do you celebrate your birthday?
Narul: "Um...I don't really know when my birthday is. I don't know if I've really ever celebrated it. Getting older...and bigger wasn't really something that I wanted to celebrate when I was younger."
Ninma: "Oh! For my fifth birthday my father would threw a big feast with fish and peaches and roast lamb, and we had a singer and dancers, and he gave me a new dress and new perfume, and all sorts of new things. And there was forestfolk with feathers like a peacock, I felt bad that he was in that cage but he was so pretty!"
Bazus: "My father throws a feast and invites all of the various nobles of Labisa. And we go on a hunt, usually for boar, auroch, or something like that. We did hunt for lions on my fifteenth birthday, no luck."
Zenit: "I don't really remember. Hutbari doesn't celebrate his slave's birthdays. "
What's something you'd regret if you died without doing?
Narul: He blushes and coughs, "Um..."
Ninma: " Hmmm...I want to be famous for a song or something like that! I want people to know who I am!"
Bazus: "Seeing my children grow up to be greater than me."
Zenit: " Putting my feet in the sea again..."

Your questions are:
What is your favorite beverage for a warm summer afternoon?
What is something that keeps you up at night?
If you could switch lives with any one you know who would it be and why?

In brief: Gypaetus barbatus Also known as 'ossifrage' or 'lammergeier' and, culturally, 'Huma' (a mythical bird from Iranian legend). 70-90% of its diet is bone. They can appear with bright red heads, due to rubbing themselves against iron-rich soil. Their wingspans can reach over 9 feet in breadth.

I gotta ask who your favorite characters are in Dragons of Autumn Twilight thus far? And how are you liking the book?
I grew up on Dragonlance and was made fun of for it so badly, so to see someone reading it now is a joy. Tanis and Raistlin were my faves. I won't spoil anything but I still recommend The Legend of Huma and honestly, the prequel of Darkness and Light is a good one to read as well. It explains a dynamic that otherwise was missing in the trilogy and it will help explain a certain event (in the second book I believe). BUT, don't read the prequels until after the trilogy.
It's like reading Redwall. You read out of order the first time to get a feel for the characters and the world. You read in order the subsequent times for the full effect.
Omg omg omg I’m so happy and excited to be reading this! I’ve been wanting to read this series for a while since I started playing D&D and I’m living for this book at the moment. The high fantasy-high stakes atmosphere is fantastic!
My favorite characters so far are definitely Raistlin/Caramon because of their dynamic and I love a good morally gray character. I’m also a big fan of Tanis because he seems like the glue keeping everyone together.
But I also love Flint! He’s so stubborn and angry and I love that for him.

Wild DLS theorising incoming...
So... Since we discovered this in the update:
Tumblr media
It seems extremely likely that in addition to Mephis and No. 44 (assuming they aren't one and the same) there's also a bright one after Laia.
Could No. 44 be a fallen angel looking to steal Laia's soul light in order to regain power among the bright ones? 🤔 It would definitely fit with the references to Mark Twain's No. 44, the Mysterious Stranger where No. 44 is the biblical Satan, a fallen angel. (Off topic: has anyone else seen that super creepy Mysterious Stranger claymation from The Adventures of Mark Twain? *shivers*)
Anyway, it might make sense if this villainous angel was the mysterious benefactor who gifted the six paintings to Brașov Museum, setting off the entire chain of events. There's plenty of references to the benefactor seeming initially angelic before revealing their true diabolic self.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Kudos to the Custodian for identifying Laia's angelic soul back in Season 2.
Tumblr media
It would also make a lot of sense for Mephis and No. 44 to work together to steal Laia's soul light. In the Faust legend Mephistopheles is the devil's agent, harvesting souls on his behalf. Perhaps back in S2, when Gabi recalls seeing No. 44 with a black dog, that is the form in which Mephis appears to humans with whatever gift Gabi possesses. It also makes sense given that Vlad's brand from Mephis was a black dog.
Tumblr media
It's interesting that Gabi describes number forty-four as having "a scary face" and being "really, really old". Meanwhile our mysterious benefactor is described as a "young man" and a foreigner. This suggests he might be able to change his appearance (if they are indeed one and the same) 🤔 an ability we know both dark and bright ones possess.
Tumblr media
This would explain why Vlad hasn't recognised Mephis if he's masquerading as someone else (an ability possibly boosted by the energy artifact that he's stolen from Noe's grandfather).
In S4 E1 we get our first glimpse of the mysterious ambassador (presumably No. 44 or Mephis) outside of the opening prologue.
Tumblr media
Later on in the chapter Lale and Mehmed encounter a sinister stranger who refers back to Mehmed's childhood accident and is fixated on Lale's beautiful soul.
Tumblr media
Presumably they're the same person under those robes? Maybe their fashion sense just became less elegant over time. But it's also not impossible that one figure was No. 44 and the other was Mephis.
This still leaves the question: Who is the mysterious benefactor/No. 44?
A quick look at my list of suspects:
Hasan/Ezel: The name Hasan can mean benefactor in Arabic, but I really don't think he's our villain. He was killed by the dark powers (because of Huma's deal) which seems pretty inept if he was actually working for them. I do wonder if he's potentially another azure though, given his apparent reincarnation 🤔 We did find out in S4 E2 that Ezel has been travelling in Europe, so he could have potentially been in Romania during the events of S1, but he's still low on my suspects list.
Mehmed: He was the reason Huma made her deal, and we see him interact with the sinister stranger in S4 E1, so it's pretty safe to assume he's neither No. 44 nor Mephis. Plus if Mehmed *has* been trapped in a wall this entire time he definitely wasn't roaming around Romania making deals with Sandra's father and spooking Gabi during S1. It's clear that Mehmed's got his own darkness going on, but I suspect that was acquired after Lale's death.
Councillor Septentrion:
Tumblr media
Septentrion is possibly too obvious a suspect? 🤔 But I definitely don't trust him. On the Noe route he was the only person who knew about Noe's romantic feelings for Laia, information I presume he passed on without Noe's knowledge (to someone else in the dark world) so that Noe could be blackmailed into accepting the Aditum position. He also took a suspiciously long time to get help when Aditum Procol was dying. And we know that he can make human bodies, they're just not as good as the ones Noe can create. Maybe someone is impersonating Septentrion, and the real one is locked in a cupboard somewhere.
Henry: He's a young man so he made the suspects list, but I think he's just kinda inept rather than suspicious. Poor guy just wants to be Leo 😔
Aquil: Okay, he's not exactly young, but he is sinister. I can definitely imagine him maybe betraying Laia and Leo at a later date, but I don't think he's Mephis/No. 44/the benefactor.
Ruthven: I'm discounting him on the grounds of being dead.
Ted: As above (at least on some playthroughs).
Asmodeus: Probably too busy being a terrible stage magician with a monumental ego to mastermind anything.
Jean: Yes, that art lawyer from S1. Admittedly he was Romanian so there's no reason the Custodian's granddaughter would describe him as a foreigner, but he still seemed somewhat suspicious. I wouldn't be surprised if he reappears before S4 is over.
Tumblr media
That's it for my suspects list, but the brilliant @nesrinslittleworld has a great theory based on the latest update.
TLDR: I love DLS and can't wait to find out what S4 has in store.

Please tell me the plot, in point form, of your least favourite horror movie (to date).
House of 1000 Corpses. Without a doubt, that is my least favourite horror movie I've watched at this point. It's not even a contest. It's also been a while since I watched it so forgive me if I'm a little vague or fuzzy on the details, lol.
Also, it's a bit...well, it's a lot. Under the cut because LONG (and also murder I guess)
Plot:
Two criminals attempt to rob a gas station run by a man in faded clown make-up (Captain Spaulding); and he murders them with his assistant.
Four teens show up looking to write about roadside attractions off the beaten path, and Captain Spaulding shows them his Museum of Monsters and Madmen. He tells them a story about a doctor (Dr. Satan. Yes, you read that right. His name is Dr. Satan) who was hung at a nearby tree and of course they want to go.
From there, they end up lured out to a house of a strange family. The family is *obsessed* with Hallowe'en. There is some attempts at seduction going on, also some sort of halloween show? but it's a private show just for the teens and the family.
The family tortures them. The family has also tortured and murdered several cheerleaders at this time in the story.
Cops have been called as one of the teens' fathers notice she's missing. The father also comes to help search?
The cops and father end up murdered as well.
3 of the teens (because one is dead) are paraded outside...in rabbit costumes? and taken to an abandoned well (I think? it might have just been a pit).
One gets murdered for trying to run, the other two are lowered down into the ground in coffins (in the well/pit thingy).
The failed experiments of Dr. Satan (under the ground on the property???) steal one of them away and leave the other to make her way through the underground on her own (there are tunnels????)
She comes across Dr. Satan (who was alive this whole time?????and his assistant is the mutilated but still alive ex-husband of the matriarch of the strange murderous family???) murdering her friend.
She manages to escape, and flees to the highway. She is picked up on the side of the road by Captain Spaulding.
She passes out from exhaustion and probably also shock. *jumpscare* suddenly one of the family members pops out of hiding in the back seat (he had time to get there???? before her????).
When she wakes up she is strapped to an operating table and Dr. Satan is there. She screams.
The End?
Ok ok ok so initially, initially I felt bad about disliking this movie so much. And then I found out that the director, Rob Zombie, actually doesn't even like it and won't watch it because he feels it is not good (source) (warning for clown if that scares anyone; that's the picture for the article) and I didn't feel so bad about it. (also, I get it, I also have things I created when I was first getting into writing fanfic that make me kind of shudder inside) Plus, it's not like I'm obligated to like a film. Also, I never said I hated it, just that it's my least favourite.
My reason for disliking it isn't really complicated. In my opinion, it's a bit of a hodge-podge of random horror tropes that are kind of pasted together like a giant horror collage. That's not bad, exactly, but it kind of made the plot feel a bit halfhearted at points and it made things a little hard to follow. It also made character motives hard to believe (or even figure out to begin with).
I think what I can say is that it explores the possible brutal and violent nature of humans, and that it clearly shows a love for horror, even if I personally think that all the tropes being mashed together like that are a bit much. (if people don't know what tropes I mean, I can list a few: teens on a roadtrip, mysterious stranger at a gas station, clown, cheerleaders/scantily clad women, local legend of an old execution that turns out sort-of true, disfigured hillbilly-ish villains, family that tortures together, doctor experimenting unethically on humans, plot twist that the man that supposedly helped the protagonist is actually in cahoots with the murderers, etc. That's not even all. That's just what I can remember.) The thing is, any one of those tropes alone can be a great plot for a horror movie. Even a couple of them fit really well together and have proven to be good horror stories to the masses (teen roadtrip + family that tortures together = Texas Chainsaw Massacre; mysterious stranger at a gas station + disfigured hillbilly villains = The Hills Have Eyes; etc). But putting them all together is kind of overwhelming and you end up losing the plot. There was a point where I went "what the fuck is even happening" and not in a good way.
That all being said, I will stand by my statement that the movie shows the director's love of horror, even if I personally didn't like it. I am still glad I watched it, even if I didn't get it at times or the plot seemed really disconnected. I definitely think it should be viewed as a "for fun" horror movie, rather than a super serious one, and honestly whenever I think of it like that I feel I can connect to it a little bit better. So, yeah. That's my thoughts on that one.

Stella: Triton, your father, helped me sculpt an undersea palace. In fact, it wasn’t a bad recreation of this one, but in sand.
Stella: Ok, that is a seriously awesome sculpt!
Triton: Yes, hours of menial work, but… I feel most elated and rewarded. This is quite wonderful. I see now why you huma… mainlanders, do this kind of thing.
Stella: It certainly is wonderful. But the best bit is yet to come.
Triton: Would that be now I may finally embrace you in passion.
Stella: Even better than that!
Triton: Better than that!?
****
Stella: And then, just like that, I trashed the sand sculpture. Your father looked on unimpressed.
Triton: Stella, we worked on that for considerable time.
Stella: Rargh, grrrr!! SMASH!
Triton: Indubitably!
Stella: BOOM!
Stella: In my defence, the sea would have washed it away anyway when the tide came in.
Morrigan: Is it pleasurable to destroy something you worked so hard to create?
Stella: I guess it can be. A lot of things are very situational of course, we can say it is fun to swim. Well yes, it is but it’s not fun when say, there are sharks circling.
Morrigan: Sharks do not concern me.
Stella: No, I can believe that.
****
Triton: *sighs* Well so much for our efforts here.
Stella: Aww don’t be like that T, it was for the best. It was a very beautiful thing, while it lasted.
Triton: It was, it reminded me of well, legends from old.
Stella: We are here in the now T. C’mon lets just relax for a few moments and take in some sunlight, gods know you need it…
Triton: What do you mean?
Stella: Well there’s pale, and then, there’s you! Sorry to say but you really are pale compared to the native peoples here.
Triton: I am not much of a sun chaser.

The way SVE is portraying monsters seems to be changing
Sorry for the silence, real life demanded more attention and any time I thought I will be able to finally write this whole thing I would either have no idea how to form coherent sentences or something else would come up and I would have to abandoned it for a while. But I finally finished this monstrosity that kept getting longer and more complicated the more I thought about what to write! Hope this is readable, I spent so much time looking at it I can't even tell any longer.
*
For a while, monsters were just mindless killing machines that would automatically attack any human on sight. In one of Marlon's heart events, deleted now, he says that monsters are beings corrupted by dark magic who always acted violently throughout history, to the point where he dismissed stories where monsters and humans got along as just legends. One of his dialogue lines further proves this idea, as he also tells us that the bugs we fight in the mines used to be normal insects that were corrupted by the magic there. Krobus was the only exception to the rule that we knew of and neither Marlon nor Magnus could figure out why Krobus was the only non-corrupted monster out there. Marlon even calls it "unprecedented". Then, in the void shard event, we found out that someone is corrupting the monsters further on purpose, using exceptionally strong dark magic. In this event, monsters are in a way just victims, just tools manipulated by a stronger power.
So, before the last few updates, monsters were beings that simply didn't belong to this world, created by dark magic or corrupted by it, with no agency, individuality or ability to choose or change their own destiny.
Now, the way the game speaks about them has changed and monsters are shown acting like normal animals. Lance speaks about camouflage, migrations, nesting and monsters hiding when conditions aren't right for them (mushroom monsters coming out only when it rains). During his six hearts event, where the farmer joins him in his research, he shows them how a wilderness golem will avoid his fires after it gets hurt by them. This is the first time we see a monster show self-preservation instincts. This also happens in Castle Village where Camilla explains how the fires around the tower keeps them safe from monster attacks, so it's not something specific to just the Highlands monsters. In Lance's event we can also see a slime family leaving together and two mushroom monsters playing/courting(?), so now monsters are also capable of forming bonds and having loving families.
Monsters feel more like they are a part of the world now. They protect themselves by avoiding harm and unfavorable weather, they nest, create families and raise their young, and camouflage themselves to blend in the foliage. They now react to the environment and what's happening around them. They aren't just creatures that belong to horror movies any more, they have became a normal part of the natural world.
Also, their origins might change in future updates. If you marry Lance one of his dialogue says "Legends say they come from dark ancient magic. I believe there's more than meets the eye". Of course, it's his job to ask these type of questions and then attempt to answer them. But with the changes in monster behavior that we discover after unlocking the Highlands it can also be a hint about future plotlines. Lance also says that "monsters are more than horrid beasts with claws" and it now makes sense why he believes that.
But SVE might go even further with it's monster portrayal. We already knew that shadow people are pretty advanced as far as monster species go. They have crossbows, which requires some advanced technology and understanding of physics to make and use. We developed them during the medieval age after all. We also know that they have their own language and Krobus can speak human languages as well, so their mental development is on par to that of humans. His last heart event in SVE, where you help make peace between humans and shadow people, further proves that they are capable of complex social organisation since they form tribes and gather around a leader.
But that event is important for other reasons too. In the cutscene, in order to repair the relations between humans and the shadow people, the farmer must collect 'void souls' from the Badlands. After you finish the quest, the game tells you that "loved ones were returned to the shadow people". The event shows us that now there's a reason why shadow people attack humans, that something happened in the past that soured the relations between the two species and led to the souls of some shadow people getting trapped in the Badlands.
So at least shadow people aren't just corrupted monsters any longer, they are on the same level as humans in terms of intelligence and culture, can learn human languages and can be negotiated with, have a logical reason why they are at war with humanity and demand a reasonable way to make peace with them, to help their lost loved ones. A huge difference from what Marlon tells us about them: "All that remains are their outer shells, mercilessly attacking any soul in their path".
Still, maybe it was expected for the mod to change the way it portrays shadow people. It was already obvious that they were different from other monsters through our friendship with Krobus. But SVE might change the rest of the monsters too. The fact that there was a dwarf imprisoned in the Highlands is already proof that they are capable of planning ahead and not just killing everything in front of them. And I don't think it's the shadow people that are keeping him imprisoned. When we enter the small tunnel that leads to his cage we have to fight multiple shadow archers that look like they are guarding him, sure. But we also have to fight multiple monsters to reach the top of the hill and kill the pepper rex holding his key, like having to fight the regal guards before reaching the throne room. Also, by having the key it's implied it's him who decides what happens to the dwarf and he kept all the stolen treasures. He seems to be the leader here.
Of course, it could be just a video game trope thing, where you have to fight a bunch of minions before you reach the boss and of course the boss will have the best loot. But if my theory is right then this shows that monsters can form relations even outside their own kind. In this case, there are shadow people, wilderness golems and slimes working together under the command of a pepper rex. It also shows that at least these monsters are also more intelligent than previously thought.
All in all, I think it's interesting the way monsters have been portrayed in SVE since the Highlands update and that it's possible this could mean that the Castle Village update will have completely new lore regarding monsters, guilds and magic than what we know of now.
*
I started gathering any mention about monsters and magic in SVE to start analyzing them after but these changes in monster behavior complicate things a bit. All new mentions of monsters make them seem more complex than they used to be at the beginning of the mod and sometimes information gathered contradicts itself, like "shadow people are just empty husks" and Krobus's last event.
Even more, some of the older events, mainly Marlon's events, about monsters or the Pelican Town guild have been removed from the game completely and a few events have been modified but some dialogue referring to them haven't been changed yet, which further complicates things. In older versions, in Victor's two heart event, when he tells the farmer about the book he's reading, he says that the First Slash guild is formed of adventurers trained in spear combat and led by Ekon.
Now, according to Lance, Ekon lives in Castle Village (but he did have a blue cloak in the past) and the lore regarding the First Slash has changed. The guild's leader is Jolyne and they specialize in magic combat with no new mentions of spears anywhere, and neither Lance nor anyone else from the First Slash is seen with one in their sprites. So this was probably changed completely. But, an older dialogue line still mentions the spears. When visiting the resort Marlon about them: "They're distinguished by their blue cloaks and use of long spears".
It's possible that some of the older events and dialogue are obsolete now and will be changed completely later on. Castle Village promises to be a massive update and after a quick glance at FlashShifter's Patreon page it could very well be a completely new game (don't have access to his Patreon by the way so nothing I'll write here is taken from there).
So, any discussion about SVE lore that could be influenced by the Castle Village update is... complicated now. I wanted to get this out of the way before posting new monster theories, although it will take a while to gather all the needed data.

A fantastical bird from Librum Prodigiosum! The Huma, from Iranian mythology! This legendary bird spends its life in the air- in some versions of the legend it is similar to the Phoenix, living cyclically, burning and being reborn!

OC Questionnaire
I was tagged by @elsie-writes , thank you! These are some of my favorite tags!
My Questions are:
What is your favorite piece or part of history?
What is your biggest fear?
What is your favorite flower?
These are characters from the first three books of my WIP series (formarly just one book), Testaments of the Green Sea.
What is your favorite piece or part of history?
Narul: "History? Um...I guess I never really thought about that sort of thing. Do legends count? Huma the Spiritblood is a story I really like...but I don't know how true those stories were."
Ninma: "Seha! Princess Seha! She was from Makur, but when she dueled Tamel, she almost won too. Tamel was so impressed that he made her his general! And then when Tamel came to Kishetal he sent her to find a place to found a great city! So she sailed down the Aratshin River and discovered the Great Lake and so she killed all those monsters and she talked to the ancient Kiriki and that's how it was decided where Labisa would be founded!"
Otilia: "The Arkodian kingdom. My father used to walk me through the old crumbling temples, the mantle of our fireplace was made from a piece of an old Arkodian temple. It's hundreds of years old but I still remember the paints were so vibrant. People still wear Arkodian jewelry when they can find it, it just seems like everything was so beautiful back then, I wish I could have seen the mountain sanctuaries of the spirit mothers."
Akard: "The reign of Tamel, 500 years of peace and prosperity, when Kishetal was one kingdom, when Kishites built the greatest palaces that the world has ever seen. Some day we will see that world again, soon I hope."
Istek: "Last night, I had wine, food, and these two." He gestures to his partners, Dati an Sihunu. "Does that count as history?"
Penetinos: "Arkodai, I would have loved to see the great furnaces where the sages and smiths worked together to make magic metals, to trap the elements themselves in mortal tools."
What is your biggest fear?
Narul: "That I'll forget the people that I care about."
Ninma: "That I'll end up like my family."
Otilia: "Hmm, I'm not entirely sure, once I would have said that it was my old husband trying to find me. But now I'd love to see him try it."
Akard: "I fear that when I die all of my work, all the work I've done to better this land will fall apart and that all of the terrible things I've had to do will have been for nothing."
Istek: "Being helpless."
Penetinos: "To tell you the truth, I'm not sure. For most of my life it was death, especially after I found about my illness, but now I've accepted it. I suppose I'm scared of dying and feeling like I'm not ready, like there was more I could have done."
What is your favorite flower?
Narul: "A hasir flower. You only see them in Kishetal, they bloom in autumn and they are so many shades of red and yellow and orange, it makes the hillside look like its on fire. And they smell sweet. I pick one any time I see them. I know I don't really look like the sort but..." He gestures to his massive frame "But, I like putting them in my beard and hair."
Ninma: "Hasir flowers! Narul gives me them."
Otilia: "Around Kalmanati where I grew up there were fields and fields of red poppies. I think I would say that those are my favorite."
Akard: "An apunina lotus, blue like a sapphire, when they bloom the entire river is perfumed."
Istek: "Flowers? Flowers hmm...not many of those at sea..." He turns to Sihunu. "What were the flowers growing around the spring where we met, those little purple ones?"
"Lavender?"
"That's it! Lavender!"
Penetinos: "The saffron crocus. They used to leave them at the temple where I served."
Your questions:
What is one embarassing memory from your childhood that you can't shake?
What would you take with you if you were trapped on a desert island for one week?
What is your favorite animal?
Tagging @roach-pizza , @pluttskutt , @illarian-rambling , @kaylinalexanderbooks and anyone else who is interested!
