I think. It might be worse. Because yes, she wanted Harrow to save her from her tower, and she HATES that she got Nona instead, but also. She's been wanting so badly for someone to save her for such a long time and
Pyrrha kind of is who she wanted to show up. She's just twenty years too late.

THE BELOVEDEST OF THEM ALL …… my extremely neglected best friend’s brother!kenjaku fic T_T my magnum opus even . i started writing it out a while ago but had to stop bc i can’t decide how to format it …. i think it’d be best to tell the story through a lot of flashbacks but it’s difficult to decide where to put what flashbacks in a way that doesn’t disturb the flow, yk??? but i do have everything outlined and i’m super excited to finally post it :33 someday… bfb!kenny is the actual loml i have so much lore planned for him. this fic is just a whole bunch of yearning and tension… the tiniest tiniest bit suggestive bc he truly makes me ill.
nervously, your gaze trails towards the stairs. worried, your teeth gnawing at your bottom lip. kenjaku notices. a large palm cradles your cheek; making sure your eyes stay locked onto his own. ”don't worry about him,” he soothes, a rough thumb smoothing down your skin. ”it’s just us here… just you and me. why don’t you take a deep breath for me, hm?” (you do. without thinking. as if your body was waiting for instructions, waiting to satiate this gnawing desire to impress him, make him proud. be good for him.)  “now,” he exhales, in tandem with you, molecules mingling together. “do you want this?”

ANOTHER DEARLY BELOVED WIP that’s been rotting in my drafts for a while ….. 👉👈 i think that out of all of these fics this is the first one that i wrote the outline to?? probably even before i made this blog. it’s basically just a canon-aligned au where gojo navigates his maybe-possibly-feelings for you, a new teacher at jujutsu high!! sooo really just my attempt to write what i view as a more canon-aligned gojo and his feelings towards love :3 mostly character-centered fluff and slowburn… some office au vibes…. i’m very fond of this reader!! and i love this version of gojo so bad i really hope i can do him justice…
“they’re a softie, huh?” shoko exhales — smoke drifting past her lungs, mingling with the cold air, a stench of tobacco that makes him crinkle his nose. ”they are,” she hums, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. a dangerously knowing look. “it’s not often someone captures your attention.” gojo smiles. ”is that what it seems like?” he drawls, almost a chuckle. closing his eyes and thinking of you, the fading scent of your perfume. ”well, who knows.” (certainly not him.)

my sickeningly fluffy cult leader geto fic <333 bc i’m spreading the agenda that he is a puppy of a man towards his s/o. this one is just meant to be funny and sweet!! i adoreee the thought of him dating a retired sorcerer with a normal ass job so in this one the reader works at a preschool…. and they’re meant to attend some kind of event for the preschool + is offered to bring a plus one. mild chaos ensues (geto doesn’t want to be anywhere near your non-sorcerer colleagues but he also wants to support you so he’s having a bit of a crisis rn…..) i LOVE this one and i’m so excited to write it out <333333 i think this geto is the most endearing man alive.
suguru blinks, eyelashes fluttering, gleaming under the shallow light of the lamppost just behind him. illuminating the peach-dyed flush dusting his ears, those wide pupils. and his lips, glossy with something cherry-flavoured, soon to curl up into a smile — fond, fond, fond. melting into your touch, basking in your long-sought attention. if he were a cat, you’re sure he'd be purring. he places one big palm over yours, where it rests on his cheek, and he stares. silently, like you’re the only thing worth seeing; dreamy galaxies inside his eyes, all honey and star clusters, leaking adoration. a milky way of love. ”… another,” he pleads, nosing at your fingertips.

Youre making me emotional about how ok Neil is to die for the Protagonist.
no but like he's just. so calm about it. he's so willing. he knows it's worth it he knows the world is worth it he knows his friend is worth it!!!!! I keep thinking about that Richard Siken quote that I'm always on about, you know the one, "Imagine this: you're pulling the car over. Somebody is waiting. You're going to die in your best friend's arms and you play along because it's funny, because it's written down, you've memorized it, it's all you know. I say the phrases that keep it all going and everyone plays along. Imagine: someone's pulling a gun, and you're jumping into the middle of it. You didn't think you'd feel this way." which is.... INSANELY melodramatic of me but that poem is always in the back of my mind waiting to be relevant in any given situation sjfksnfksnd. I keep saying it in my tags on gifsets and stuff, but the thing that really struck me about Neil is that he's so pragmatic. like he's been doing this and dealing with this stuff for a WHILE, we don't really know how long but we know he's experienced. and he knows how things work he KNOWS all the moments of mistrust and "knowledge divided" and hard decisions are a part of the job, how could he NOT know that? he makes some difficult calls himself even before the end. but the thing is, yes he's pragmatic, but he's also a bit of a bleeding heart. he may know how things have to work but that doesn't make it *feel* any less. I think the thing i keep coming back to is the look on his face whenever the Protagonist shows a lack of trust in him (which is a whole other thing tbh bc the back and forth of trust is really interesting, like the Protagonist almost instinctively trusts Neil but also Doesn't and is Suspicious and like yeah, from his point of view it makes sense, but also the way he almost forgets to be suspicious at all sometimes is definitely Something) because you KNOW that Neil knows it's reasonable. he's known it since that first (last) handshake!! he knows that it's a reasonable suspicion just as well as he knows he can't explain anything right away, but you can see just looking at his face that the Protagonist not trusting him absolutely breaks his heart. pragmatist with a bleeding heart. anyway the point here is that like... it's the same thing at the end. it's the same thing. only this time Neil isn't the only one with the burden of Knowing, because there's nothing left to lose (what's happened happened) so he can finally explain some things. and the Knowing helps, a little bit, because now they BOTH know how this has to work, they both know why it matters so much, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. the bittersweet little smile on Neil's face as he walks away (and leaves the Protagonist, this experienced, often harsh military operative, openly crying) is actually so sad. like, it's worth it, it's so worth it, and they both Know, but it still hurts. it's simple and such an easy choice to make because it HAS to be made but it's still heartbreaking. earlier in the movie, Neil tries to convince the Protagonist not to go back to the car chase. but now it's flipped around (inverted...) and Neil is the one who has to say "now let me go" in the end. jumping into the middle of it and you didn't think you'd feel this way. hand on my heart hand on my stupid heart.

i'm NOT organized. i have the story itself on a google doc, some notes on my phone, probably some post-it notes scattered everywhere when i had ideas at work, i know one of my still unwritten stories as a giant mind map on like 5 or 6 A4 sheets of paper with the structure of the story, i have no clue where the fuck those papers are btw, i have a google doc with bits of dialogues i wanna write into stories, another doc with conversations i've had with friends about stories and situations and potential ideas and literally no method to any of this.
32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?
"the gentleness that comes, not from the absence of violence, but despite the abundance of it", a line by richard siken.
"and then go home, or make a home, or rest", a line from Instructions by neil gaiman
i feel like it's a good representation of my work in general, which is about how you can heal and live and thrive and find love and friendship despite everything that has happened to you and the trauma that you carry.

1. How many words have you written this year?
nearly 14k (13,924 to be exact) published and at least 6-7k more of wips! tragically my least prolific year since uhhhhhhhh a long time. 2017? but thats ok it was a hard year all that matters is that i survived<3 im proud of myself for what i did bc im in that kinda moment where im relearning how to write and reengaging the creative part of my brain. and next year will be better!! i have a lot of plans and a wip list as long as a cvs receipt<33
6. Favorite title you used
this one is actually your body drowning in gravity! i havent reread it in a long long while (aside: wow i was a totally different person when i wrote that (i published it jan 3)) bc my brain has temporarily been caught by other things. but it was an idea that i'd been turning over in my head for over a year at the time when i wrote it and i think i saw the richard siken poem that the title is from (it's "the dislocated room" btw) on my dash in the middle of the writing process and it was like. Perfect. like i choose all my titles very carefully but this one really knocks it out of the park. when the fic is literally about tanner thinking mallory is the one that's fallen from the top of the cns building at the end of spectre and not knowing until the body hits the ground.
28. Favorite work you wrote this year?
OUGHHH this is hard. Ough. ok i DO think it's just so long as this thing's loaded. im chronically an "i wrote this for me but you can read it if you want" guy bc i have rarepair disease. if i want to read it i have to be the one to write it. but this fic was really an exercise in like. getting weird with it. remembering that u cannot judge ur creation by any possible bad faith interpretation of it. letting myself write the kind of wildly unhinged horny possessive devotion that eats the inside of my brain but ive never been able to put on the page bc of the Fear of like ohhh that would be sooo bad in real life. dude theyre. not real. idk im not good at that sort of thing the panopticon inside my mind is sometimes kind of crazy. but like yeah actually they do think the power dynamic is hot. yeah nick made jasper fake betraying him obviously here is this situation where jasper comes back to nick after his faked death and both of them are pretending not to know the betrayal wasn't real. its just roleplay 2 them. sorry to quote a line in this already extremely long answer but like "The only thing he wants to keep is right here at his side and hasn’t that been the point of all of this, the knife to his throat and the blood in his kiss and the slow simmer of barely leashed desire. Jasper has come to him like this, the traitor slinking his guilty way home, to show Nick the lengths to which he would go for him. To which he has always gone for him, giving up everything to play Nick’s triple agent, just what the Director ordered." is literally the thesis statement of the whole thing. Anyway
also its the kind of fic where every line is trying to be The Line which...is a quirk of my writing style that comes out every now and then that im usually (for good reason tbh) always trying to cut back on. but this...Needed It. sometimes the prose DOES need to be purple. and i had fun. it was really fun dude lol i had a great time

we have not touched the stars, nor are we forgiven, which brings us back to the hero’s shoulders, and the gentleness that comes, not from the absence of violence, but despite the abundance of it.
these two will forever mean so much to me. halfway through drawing this, i realized that it echoed the very first promotional art i saw for awakening, probably around ten years ago now. i feel like i’ll be old as shit, still tearing up about them. chrom and his tactician taught me so much about myself, as well as the concept of unconditional love despite everything else. it also just feels good to see a world that is saved by gay love lol. i will always hold it close to my heart as a part of me. i wouldn’t have my chosen name without it, after all!

So, asking because I’m trying to get into reading more poetry and the local bookstore’s selections were not really my cup of tea- any poetry recommendations for someone who is a fan of Richard Siken (he’s the only poet I know sorry)- and maybe some good, unsettling poetry recs too, like those ‘Red Mother’ poems? (Hope you’re having a lovely day, btw!)

okay soooo... sorry for the delayed reply, i've been kinda busy!
i gotta start this off by saying how much i loved the way you wrote "[...] that feeling of wanting to reach divinity and holiness with your writing. The raw, exposed nerve of that writing." - it's hard for me to refer to writing as a hobby because it's such a substantial part of me, if that makes sense? or maybe that's just my codependent relationship to writing... whenever i don't write for a while i start feeling like a non-person! (ok, in hindsight this doesn't sound 100% related to the holiness bit, but that's what sparked the train of thought)
on for colored girls who have considered suicide - when the rainbow is enuf: i actually listened to a monologue from this a while ago on youtube, but I'll be sure to check out the full text!
also, on the topic of spoken-word & slam poetry: i'm going to a poetry reading at a friend's place later this month and it's nerve-racking. i mean, hey, of course i bleed into my poetry, and in theory i'm cool with that. but reading it aloud to a room half full of strangers? that's like lying on an operating table, flesh sliced open with surgeons over you. (i'm sure it'll be fun, though)
i've read primer for small weird loves and wishbone (because they're both included in richard siken's book crush - which is definitely worth the money (& btw, he has a new book coming out this year in fall/winter; thought i'd tell you in case you didn't know))! out of the two i like wishbone a lot more - although that's probably just because i relate to it a little bit more. i like making lists so i've compiled some of my favorite parts from the poem:
• "I took the bullet for all the wrong reasons [...]"
• "Let's not talk about it, let's just not talk."
• "[...] we keep doing it Henry, we keep saying until we get it right... [...]"
• "If you love me, Henry, you don't love me in a way I understand."
• "This is where the evening splits in half, Henry, love or death. Grab an end, pull hard, and make a wish."
it's crazy (well, not really, but you know) that you mentioned jericho brown, because we read something by him in english class a few years back and he's completely slipped my mind since then! so, thanks for reminding me :)
first of all, i love how duplex starts and ends with the same line - and this may be a reach, but it feels sort of like coming home? he introduces us to the line, we go away for a while, then we're back at the beginning. and maybe i just feel this way because for me going home is synonymous with going back home. (not always, but a lot of the time.) also, the contrast of "none of the beaten end up how we began" & the poem ending exactly how it began? i don't have the right words to explain what, but there's something that grabs me in that.
now, let's take a short detour because i feel like dropping some recs. here's two poets whose work i really enjoy: chen chen and jasmine ledesma (who i think is on tumblr, too? @/candiedspit if i'm not wrong). i'd specifically like to recommend (and hopefully hear you opinion on) chen chen's i'm not a religious person but & jasmine ledesma's short stories no candy, sorry and FIEND.

Sorry on the delayed reply on my side too. I've been sorta busy with a lot of stuff, but I had to drop in a message.
First of all, the poem? Iconic. It is so well written!!! Ahh! The way you use the numbers to count down all the things in a list sort of a format . And the splendid use of a clock ticking to signify the time coming closer and closer. It reminds of the Doomsday Clock which always reminds us that we are two minutes to complete destruction and in a way it is an inevitable destruction. "I'm one drink away from holiness and I'm not stopping" is such a vivid Ginsberg line that ahhh, it hits with the concept of the Beat Generation being these drunk, high poets who ultimately want to experience divinity through their intoxication and writing. And the ending with, "it's almost Valentine's- please tell your wretched heart I'm sorry." AGHH, the way the narrator tries to stop the inevitability of the sadness of romance?? Or being stuck in a relationship and trying to do better? The interpretations are left wide open and I love that.

And I wanted to give you some advice on slam poetry performances, I have a bit of an experience with them. The surgical metaphor is indeed apt, there is some vulnerable to stand in front of a group of people to carve out yourself into words and see it take on a meaning for everyone differently. But, revel in that vulnerable state and see how that conveys meaning. Focus on a spot in the room and speak to it and let meaning take its own hold. And remember, even if you don't get the reception you are hoping for, hold onto the meaning that you initially wrote it with. How your poetry affects you in the end is what matters. And good luck! Let me know how it goes.

[Also, I know it's in the name, but there's something about the way Wishbone is written that it makes you keep as if you are splintering into bits and dissolving. Especially in the bit where he goes I wish you'd stop reminding about the debt because you can do nothing about it and even if you love me, it is not the way I want.; Please let me go, I cannot let you be in my debt anymore.]
Jericho Brown? Iconic. The cyclical nature of the form as well as it is sort of the same line all the while not being the same line is such a beautiful way to express the repetition, but all how each cycle in a way is different than the last one.
I loved Chen Chen's poem. The way God chooses to escape from his own reality through someone who does not believe enough in him to question him at first it beautiful. And what hits me is how God stops and creates a barrier again by sending the angel as soon as he is questioned in adjacent to his role in the universe. What interests me is how the atheist (I know it does not mention atheism directly, but close enough) is sent an angel and later meet with God, and therefore, the relation that they form is a meaningful bond between two individuals rather than being a power dynamic with the worshipped and the devotee.
There's something about Ledesma's stories about hopelessness in her both protagonists. In the same way, both are extremely tired of their circumstances and want to be somewhere else in perhaps a better versions of their selves. The scattered prose certainly draws it very strongly together.
And finally, to drop a rec of my own, let me know what you think of Ada Limon's "The Problem With Travel" and "Accident Report in the Tall, Tall Weeds." They both are very beautiful poems.

i enjoyed your recommendations a lot so let me elaborate real quick-
the problem with travel:
right off the bat, same.
traveling does always make me feel like i'm starting a new chapter and i should act accordingly.
love "kill the kid stuff, start to act my numbers" - the choice of words you use when writing is so important. (thats why i cant judge anyone who spends a long ass time on thesaurus! sometimes writing really does feel like looking through a lost & found or fishing the right word out of a goodwill bin! flipping through a magazine in search for the right word to cut out and stick on your collage!) imagine how substantially different the poem would sound if limon had written "start to act my age" instead of "start to act my numbers"
"[...] - we’re small
and flawed, but I want to be
who I am, going where
I’m going, all over again."
this^ part kills me in a good way
accident report in the tall, tall weeds:
"my ex got hit by a bus"
gets right to the point. kinda like a short story? an immediate jump into action
i might've said this before but i like it when poems tell stories (i mean i guess they all do, in a way, but i specifically mean the ones that have clear characters? if that makes sense)
"No tampering with the great universal brake wires."
ahhh yeah - when you feel like a thought can cause real life consequences
"When the plane went down in San Francisco,
I thought of my friend M. He’s obsessed with plane crashes.
He memorizes the wrecked metal details,
the clear cool skies cut by black scars of smoke.
Once, while driving, he told me about all the crashes:
The one in blue Kentucky, in yellow Iowa.
How people go on, and how people don’t.
It was almost a year before I learned
that his brother was a pilot.
I can’t help it,
I love the way men love."
^ don't you love it when a poem beats your heart to a pulp?
"What I saw in the men who came before,
sometimes I don’t want to say this out loud,
was someone I could hold up to my ear
and hear the ocean, something I could say my name into,
and have it returned in the inky waves."
self recognition through the other! yeah! sometimes people are people and sometimes people are mirrors and i know this wasn't her point but aren't we all just saying "hey! this is how i feel! do you feel like that too?" and sometimes "language is complicated but i think you know exactly what i mean and i know what you mean too!" and "when our experience overlaps the cosmic alone-ness becomes bearable!"

Well, lmao Cat now, I'm the one who's late in replying, but yeah, I've been really busy. Now, I've got a bit of a time to reply to your ask.
First of all, "Don't You Wonder, Sometimes?" by Tracy Smith is a really interesting poem especially centred around Bowie. I love how the poet makes Bowie into a mythical being, like a sort of a spirit rather than a mortal man.
"Not God, exactly. More like-
Some thin-hipped glittering Bowie-being"
I love how the poem takes in the spirit of Bowie as something that will keep living on -
"Saying nothing is lost, that everything lives on waiting only
To be wanted back badly enough?
Bowie will never die. Nothing will come for him in his sleep
Or charging through his veins. And he’ll never grow old,"
It's just a beautiful way to think of the artist living on despite their death. They live through those they have touched with their art as well as their art themselves.
"In which I’m forever a child looking out my window at the night sky
Thinking one day I’ll touch the world with bare hands
Even if it burns."
And I just simply love these lines ^^^ . I love the poem touches up on reincarnation. It's interesting as it mentions how people are reincarnated a few times and then, they go to the beyond.
"And how many lives
Before take-off, before we find ourselves
Beyond ourselves, all glam-glow, all twinkle and gold?"
And finally, I love how the deification fo Bowie continues making him into a cryptid? That's the best way I can describe it honestly.
"When a man his size can meet
Your eyes for just a blip of time
And send a thought like SHINE
SHINE SHINE SHINE SHINE
Straight to your mind. Bowie,
I want to believe you."

And yeah, language is funky like that. Honestly, I love the fact that people swap art with each and it's like every though we're different, you go through the same emotions. No matter whatever niche emotion is, someone has already written about it! If they haven't, you can always write it!
This reminded of a favourite poem of mine (tw : homophobia and sort of death ? though) which reminds me of the awkwardness of telling people I'm queer / coming out to them. It's called Three A.M. by Jill McDonough.
Also, I've been reading some more stuff to rec them and to hear your thoughts on them. It's all food - themed because I really got into food poetry last week. And as I was talking to a lovely mutual about the intimacy of cooking food and feeding someone.
I'd highly rec the movie "Big Eden". It's a wonderful gay rom-com movie with no homophobia at all and a lot of intimate cooking and wanting to make sure that your crush is loved and taken care off.
