Cinder paused as she looked up at the huntress who knelt down next to her, hand outstretched. The words she had said still sounded foreign to her even though they were spoken in her language, and yet, she wasnt entirely sure if she understood her the first time.
“Would you like some help?” the huntress asked again.
“H-help?” Cinder asked quietly, still not sure what the huntress had wanted. It was normal for most, if not all the patrons, to ignore her while she was cleaning up a mess that was made by her step sisters or a mess that she made on her own. And those that noticed her usually scoffed as they watched, making quiet insults as she worked. But the huntress in front of her seemed… different. She wasnt like the usual patrons, a smile on her face that seemed to disappear as she talked to the other patrons, bright silver eyes that seemed to reflect that light that shined on them, hair that she wasnt sure if it was dyed red or if it had darkened with age.
The huntress nodded with a smile. “You look like you could use some help. I’ve been watching you the last few days I’ve been here. I know the mess you’re cleaning right now isnt your own and I wanted to offer you help to clean it.”
Cinder sighed and went back to scrubbing the mud off the floor. “I-I can handle it. I dont need… help.”
“Dont be afraid to ask me for help if you need it. I’m going to be staying here for a few more days, so maybe I can keep you a bit of company.”
Cinder paused once more mid scrub as she watched the huntress walk away, her fingers twitched as they curled around the scrub brush tighter. It all had to be a trick of some sort, something her step-sisters put the huntress up to in order to make sure she could get punished. Not that it really mattered, she hadnt gone a day in the year she had lived with her stepmother where punishment of some sort wasnt off the table for her. And yet, the offer the huntress gave her seemed… genuine. More genuine than she was used to.
She started to scrub the floor again until the mud was cleaned up from the upper levels and slid the scrub brush into her water bucket. The clock chimed as it hit the hour, and Cinder counted each chime. Ten chimes. Which meant it was finally time for her to make her way to bed. She made her way down towards the kitchen to dump her bucket, until she passed a room with an open door.
Cinder sat her water bucket down near the door and peeked in. Her eyes caught the sight of an axe rifle sitting unattended against the bookshelf in the room. It was almost as if a gift was being given to her. A weapon she could take to fight back and free herself. She found herself taking a step into the room until she was close enough to place a hand on the shaft of the axe.
“She’s pretty, isnt she?”
Cinder took a hurried step back as she turned around, the weapon clattered to the ground as it was knocked over. She flinched at the sound, ready for the beating she had expected to take. “I’m sorry!”
“Sorry?” The huntress asked as she walked over to her. “Sorry for what? There’s no harm in looking at a weapon. Though, you probably shouldnt touch it in case you hurt yourself.”
Cinder braced for the slap she expected, not aware that she had started to hold her breath. Then, she heard the huntress pick up her weapon and lean it against the bookshelf again. Once she was sure she wasnt going to be hit, she slowly started to relax. “You… you’re not upset?”
“For knocking over Sundered Rose?” The huntress shook her head and smiled a bit. “I have a couple kids at home, so she’s used to getting knocked over. I’m much more worried about her accidentally firing if she’s knocked down hard enough, but I keep her unloaded so I dont have to worry too much.”
Cinder slowly nodded, but kept watch on the weapon. All she had to do was wait for a moment when the huntress wasnt around and she could take it for herself. Though, the hard part would be trying to take it out without getting caught. The blade of the axe was a bit too large to fit into the vents, and walking out of the room with it was just going to get her caught.
“What’s your name?”
“My… my name?” Cinder asked, caught a bit off guard with the question. “C-Cinder. My name is Cinder.”
“I’m Summer,” Summer answered back as she sat down. “You can try to pick her up if you’d like. You seem quite interested in her.”
Cinder paused for a moment as if she considered the thought. After a few quiet moments, she reached out to pick up the weapon. It was a lot heavier than she expected and she struggled to hold it with both hands. She sat it down with a *thump* and winced as her arms hurt.
“A bit heavy, right?” Summer asked. “Most people think that. But, I think with a bit of training, you might be able to use a weapon like this.”
“Training?”
“I'd like to train you as a huntress. If you’re interested.”
“A huntress…”
Summer nodded and offered a hand to Cinder. “I know most people turn a blind eye to how you’re treated, but I want to offer to train you as a huntress. I cant take you away from here, but I can train you to get ready for the exams. How old are you?”
Cinder paused for a moment to think about her age. “T-Twelve,” she lied. “I’m twelve.”
“Five years,” Summer hummed for a moment. “Five years doesnt give us a lot of time to train, but… I think we can manage it. Though, I’ll have to get permission from your mother first-”
“No!” Cinder said as she tried to stop Summer from standing up, a hand instinctively reached to the collar around her neck. For a moment, it almost felt like Summer was looking for something as she stared at her and she lowered her hand from her collar. “She uh… she’d… she’d never let me.”
“Dont worry about her,” Summer said with a grin. “I can be persuasive enough.”
Cinder felt her heart stop for a moment as she watched Summer stand up and start making her way out of her room. She lingered in Summer’s room for a moment before she began to slowly follow after, each shaky step almost felt like time had started to slow down as she worried about what her step-mother would do to Summer. The idea of being a huntress was unthinkable, her step-mother would never allow it. And even if she did, it would end up with a shock through her collar to remind her of her place.
And yet… she continued to follow Summer almost out of hope. That maybe there was a chance that she could be a huntress, to get out of this place and leave it behind. A hope that she had only felt once before when she saw her step-mother come around to adopt her the first time. Her breath hitched as she watched Summer walk into her step-mother’s office and the door close in front of her. She pressed a careful ear to the door to listen in, shaking as she held still.
“What can I do for you,” the Madame asked, almost annoyed that she was being bothered. “And you’ll need to make it quick, my office is usually closed at this time of night.”
Summer dragged a chair over and sat down. “I would like to train Cinder to be a huntress.”
“A huntress? And why would you want to do that? She can barely follow instructions with chores and helping keep this place running.”
“I’m sure you can afford some extra help.”
“This hotel is not making enough for me to hire extra help while I have my daughters to take care of,” the Madame retorted. “So unless you’re going to offer another suggestion-”
“You’ll get a stipend for her being a huntress,” Summer interrupted.
“Explain.”
“As long as I register her as an out of schooling trainee and provide proof that she is being trained under my care, Atlas Academy will provide a small stipend to pay for training equipment, food, lodging, and travel that is needed. That will all be yours.”
Cinder started to get a bit worried as the Madame went quiet. After a minute of silence, she finally heard the Madame’s voice and let out the breath she was holding.
“You can train her,” the Madame answered. “She will not be allowed to leave the kingdom borders and she will still live here, however, you will be able to stay as long as you desire in order to train her.”
Summer paused for a moment to consider everything. “I’m allowed to take her out of Atlas borders once a month for training against grimm that arent native to here.”
“One day of my choosing.”
“I can agree to that.”
“Then you may train her.”
Cinder pulled away from the door as she heard Summer make her way out of the office and feigned checking the wall for anything to clean. Once she saw Summer out of the corner of her eye, she paused and looked over at her.
“We start first thing in the morning,” Summer said as she walked over to Cinder. “Get some rest and meet me outside the hotel. We have some paperwork we have to fill out first.”

Hey there Trese fans!
Tumblr media
For those of you who watched the Trese Netflix "anime", did you know that the original comic series actually has a different main antagonist?
In the anime, Datu Talagbusao is the big bad.
But in the komiks, the big bad is...
Imelda Marcos.
No, really.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Madame, who is the primary antagonist of the Trese universe, is based 100% on Imelda Marcos, apart from being, you know. Magic. The manipulation, the evil, and the lies are all pretty much one to one, though.
Somehow the komiks villain is less monstrous than her real life counterpart.

Thinking about Cinder saying in v3, “It’s not about overpowering the enemy, it’s about taking away what power they have.”
Thinking about how, before killing her abuser, she made it a point to let the Madame see that the shock collar wasn’t going to make her back down any longer. It was still actively causing her pain, but the adrenaline of near-freedom was more powerful than the electricity, and Cinder made sure Madame knew that.

Aziraphale is the most character ever. He ran out of ideas so he declared war on hell. He canonically says fuck. His favourite colour is yellow. He’s literally an angel and can speak every language on earth but still isn’t fluent in french. He told his boyfriend to shoot him for his magic act and made him go through with it when their miracles weren’t working. He gave away his flaming sword and then lied about it for the next 6000 years. He has a bookshop that never sells books. No one’s doing it like him.

Inktober Day 10 - Fortune I like to think Aziraphale goes to visit Madame Tracy every once in a while for tea as a thank you for the lift during the apocalypse. Crowley begrudgingly tags along (because of course he does)
